my name is meline Donner I have been in the dance program for four years now and the title of my piece is You Don't Own Me my piece is about women empowerment and the fact that we don't need anyone to control us and that we are strong individuals the hardest part of my piece was probably like getting started and trying to think about you know how I wanted the dancers to move the spacing the choreography how I wanted to kind of go about it but but then as soon as I got started it was easy going from there as a competition dancer it was hard for me to kind of incorporate like movement and choreography instead of all tricks and leaps and turns and my goal was to not incorporate all tricks and turns because I wanted to show like what Miss Jenkins has taught us throughout the years however it was kind of hard for me at first because that was all I knew um so I kind of just you know looked up videos um instrumental music of course which Miss Jenkins taught us instrumental music is important however going off of that I wanted some kind of lyrics in order to kind of portray the story and then off of there it was kind of easy one of the lessons I've learned being in the dance program is that dance is not all about the tricks and turns it is about the visual art of dance itself and something I will miss about the dance program was all the friends and connections I have made and I went and trade it for the world on [Music] [Applause] see my face in the [Music] Stars you don't know [Music] me you write my name on your walls but you don't know me I feel you tracing my scars but you don't know me you don't know me at all I see you down on your knees but you don't own me you don't know me at all [Music] [Music] you [Music] you you drank your wine from my heart you don't know me you don't know me at [Music] all I see you down on your knees you don't you don't you don't at all [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] sh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hi my name is Mia and I've been in the dance department for four years the title of my piece is you're the reason and the meaning behind it is friendship and the journey to people take when they're friends so the reason I chose to do this duet is to show how two people can take up an entire stage just as much as a group dance and I also wanted to focus on the people that are close to me instead of having a whole group the process for me was a little bit hard in the beginning cuz I wasn't sure how to start it but once I got the piece started it was smooth saling my time at the dance program helped improve my confidence and my technique and it helped me show compassion and patience to others my favorite memory is during Co when we had extra time me and samaris would watch movies and have Sprite and popcorn with Miss J what miss most about this program is Miss Jay and my friends here because they've all helped me along the way and got me through these four [Applause] years when the the best of me is barely breathing when I'm not somebody I believeing hold on to me when I miss the light the night is stolen when I'm slamming all the doors you've opened hold on to me hold on to [Music] me hold on to me when it's too dark to see you when I am sure I have reached the end hold on to me when I forget I need you when I let go hold me again when I don't feel like I'm worth defending when I'm tired of my pretending hold on to [Music] me when I start to break in desperation underneath the weight of expectation hold on to [Music] me hold on to [Music] me I could rest here in your arms forever cuz I know nobody loves me better hold on to [Music] me hold on to me my name is new cabbe I've been in a dance program for two years my piece is called those feels again I wanted to give Edison a glimpse of some of my favorite music which is R&B and soul um I chose my dancers because I knew that they could get my vision across and execute the dance moves that I gave them I wanted my dancers to really think about whose company they enjoy and how do those relationships make them feel one thing people don't realize as choreographers is we have to edit our own music and so that was the hardest part for me finding out like where do I want my music to end and start and just getting really creative with that once my music was completed I got to see my peace come to life and um teen arts and it was really cool to see my dancers really get that message across on stage and I really loved it one of the things I'll miss in the dance program is having your own space to be creative [Applause] it's not that I don't want you here yeah it's something about the way you star my eyes I know that I don't make things clear I fall for you every time I try to resist you we can get away P trees Beach VI ordinary day all I want to hear is in the vision already play sit right next to you you I try not to show how I feel about you thinking wish your way but we don't really want to I just where it I've got to be where it I've got to be in the room where it I got to be I got to be Click [Music] [Applause] Boom hi my name is zaris froso I've been in the dance program for 4 years and the name of my dance is old soul the reason I name my piece old soul is because my mom used to play a lot of old songs when I was young using the R&B music it inspired me to use an an old R&B song and I used Destiny's Child um specifically the song Nam say my name putting the piece together it was very difficult because I've never created a dance let alone chore choreographed with other girls the challenge was putting my my in putting my idea out there and not only getting them on the same page as me but also showing them what I wanted in the dance coming into this dance I thought it was going to be easy choreographing dances and like being able to teach other girls my idea but it was very hard for me being that I've never choreographed it was difficult creating Transitions and creating dances after after a while I would get stuck and I wouldn't know what else to put in the dance so I would get Hope from my dancers being that they had a lot of experience so a lesson I learned from this was to be very patient not everything comes straight to mind so you have to take your time with it something I'll miss in dance is creating the bond with all the girls that I met throughout the years [Applause] you really need to to live your life and open your eyes and you don't want to wake up with no memories and never really being able to see the world my my no one is around you say baby I love you you say my name say my name you acting kind of shady and calling me baby while a change name my name no one is around you say baby I love you if you running say my my you kind sh call me Moonlight but don't forget who's taking you home and in whose arms you're going to be so darling Save the Last Dance For Me Oh I know that the music's fun like sparkling wine go and have your fun I laugh and sing but while we're apart don't give your heart to anyone and don't forget who's taking you home and in whose arms you're going to be so darling Save the Last Dance For Me You Can Dance go and carry on till the night is gone and it's time to go if he has if you're all alone can he walk you home you must tell him no cuz don't forget who's taking you home and it you're going to be Save the Last Dance For [Music] Me so don't forget who's taking you home or in whose arms you're going to be so darling Save the Last Dance For Me Oh baby won't you save the last steps for me o you make a promise that you'll Save the Last Dance For Me Save the Last Dance the very last dance for [Music] [Applause] me my name is michen I've been in the dance program for three years and the title of my piece is one and six um the inspiration for my piece was an English project that I had done based on the exploitation and harassment rates in women and unfortunately I found that almost all women will be harassed or exploited at least once in their life and this message really sat with me and I thought that I couldn't just roll over on it so I decided to use my favorite form of expression which is dance to create a piece about it I'm one of the few Juniors that got this opportunity to choreograph a piece my junior year so I thought that creating a piece not only from people just in my Dance 4 class but also in people that have never seen the stage before and some that have dance since they were little this was my favorite part about being a choreographer because I was able to have my vision come to life the most difficult part being a choreographer was having faith in myself because it was really difficult I've never choreographed a full production like this by myself before and being a studio dancer I didn't really have the experience as to choreographing for a reason I was kind of just told to be a character and stay within those lines and so breaking those barriers was really important to me the biggest takeaway from the program so far is that the creative process is different to everyone and so comparing to one another is really detrimental to our pieces because we're all trying to convey different messages what makes each dance special to us is that we're all dancing for our own reasons and the uniqueness is what makes dance the most special part of my life [Applause] sexual and gender-based violence reported during the attack and the silence rape is the cheapest and possibly the oldest weapon of War one out of every five women will be sexually assaulted before she reaches the age of 18 take your eyes off of me so I can leave I'm far too ashamed to do it with you watching [Music] me this is never R and we have been here before but I can't stay this time cuz I don't love you anymore please stay where you are don't come any closer don't try to change my mind I'm being cruel to be kind I can love you in the [Applause] dark it feels like we're o aart there's so much space between us baby we're already defeated everything Chang me you have gi me something that I can't live without you must underestimate that when you are in doubt but I don't want to carry all like everything is fine the longer we ignore it all the more that we will fight please don't fall apart I can't face your breaking heart I trying to be brave stop asking me to stay I can't love you in the dark it feels like we're Ro aart there is so much space between us baby we're already already defeated everything changed Dre we're not the only way I do regret a thing every word I've said you know I always mean it is the world to me that you are in my life but I want to live and not to survive [Music] [Music] that's why can love you in the dark it feels like we're o aart there is so much space between us baby we you're already defeat it cuz everything Chang [Music] me don't think you can save me [Applause] hi my name is Madison and I've been in the dance program for 3 years the title of my piece is called my addiction the song I choreographed my piece to I heard at a convention and I just immediately like had a connection to it and wanted to create something that was different for me compared to my other pieces as though I feel like it's easier to want to do something more slow paced I wanted to change it up and do something a beat while I was creating this piece something that was difficult for me was musicality and trying to have enough movement but not too much at the same time in the end I'm grateful that I continued with this journey of doing something upbeat what I'll be able to take away from this program is being able to push myself beyond my comfort zone some advice I would give to others is even if you've been dancing for a long time there's still more that you can learn whether that's like the history behind dance or more about movement personally because I've been in dance for a while I still was able to come into the program and learn more about the history which I've never been able to learn before one thing I'll miss most is having a strong support system and being surrounded by my friends [Applause] you get me out of my mind and stop this feeling inside all day a song in my head it makes me sing like that now get out of my bed two then I beg you come back three yeah I got a cend but still this song in my head and
