thank you Tom item number one's a motion for the adoption of the agenda motion to approve second all in favor I opposed motion carries item number two is a motion approving our minutes from our August 5th 20124 meeting still moved second all in favor I opposed motion carries under item number three recognitions and awards we uh or I had a truncated mayor for the day Kathy Larson she called me about an hour ago said she was going to try to get here for the meeting uh things got in the way of that a little bit today but if she comes in we'll welcome her and maybe introduce her when she does get here so we can uh skip over that one and then item number four is a motion for the consent agenda she moved second all in favor opposed motion carries under petitions and request item number five is a motion approving the horal foundation Grant request rankings Thomas before before you is a listing of all the hormell foundation rankings uh came to an end after all eight elected officials results were tabulated again 12 items in total top one being ml Dash Bo um and affordable housing project those two uh were sort of past the others by far so those were two clearly and tops your priority in addition we have a quality of life pass through for about 74,8 58 will apply for and I believe there's also going to be a Paramount Theater expansion request that will be under the city's um name if approved if council is willing to go through with that like we have in the past so again no guarantees any or all these will be approved um but we'll send them to the foundation if the council approves that ranking tonight all right a simple thank you the horal foundation just seems always seems inadequate we appreciate what they give to the City of Austin each year and uh we got 12 more or potentially maybe 13 more projects coming next year so with that looking for a motion to approve item number five so move second okay all in favor I opposed abstain Tommy want take roll on that motion by council member Baker seconded by council member at large Austin to approve the grant request so an I vote is in favor of such council member Basin I fiser hi pusta I heli abstain HMA I Baker yep council member at large Austin I motion passes 6-0 with one abstaining on thank you Tom item number six is a motion reviewing offence appeal for Megan oh good luck ex Chita all right thank you Holly go ahead and take it from here hollly uh the applicant lives at 1328 Street Southwest uh during the August 14th 2024 meeting of the Austin Planning Commission the commission reviewed a fence appeal submitted uh for a proposed six- foot privacy fence installed in the property line of the rear sidey yard property is located on a corner lot uh which our ordinance uh require a 122t setback from the property line uh after review uh with six planning Commissioners present the commission recommended approval of the request with the condition that it not be built in the utility easement area the vote was 60 uh this recommendation comes from a discussion of the impacts on neighboring properties public RightWay review of practical difficulties and reasonableness of the petitioners requested use all right Council any questions for Holly on this motion if not looking for a motion to approve orov second so we have a motion second to approve all in favor I I opposed a motion carries and Kathy might have an eye problem but I got good news I have an eye problem that will resolve itself so that's good and um I my previous I'm retired but my previous work was in U medical management and at one time I was the assistant administrator at Austin Clinic before it became part of mayo and then I've worked at the U ofm and um and at Mayo Rochester and various places so thank you for having me here and thank you Kathy my limited time spent with her today she appears to know everybody so she's very well connected uh also she's neglected to say she's an election judge so thank you for your time as make sir just want to take this opportunity to thank the the mayor and all the council members for giving me this opportunity to be and I remember for like 3 months so today being my last year say that I've learned a lot and I'm still looking forward to be here even in the future thank you excellent thank you Isaac I know you'll be uh just continue to be a rising star so thank you for being here with us for the last three months reports and recommendations Craig I have nothing but Mr Lang has an item just want to mention to the council and to the public that our project along uh by hormell The hormell Institute on 8th Street Northwest is moving along that is a a large Lift Station construction project uh the next phase of work will begin with road closure on 8th Street Northeast along the Institute and going north uh toward International Paper that closure will occur on Wednesday so this Wednesday August 21st and that roadway segment and others will likely be closed through the end of the project um so I just wanted to make Council and and the public aware of that pending road closure for this week we will also be getting information out to the adjacent businesses that are along 8th Street as well excellent thanks Stephen anything else Craig no no city council we'll start with Laura uh so this weekend is the Austin artworks Festival uh I definitely recommend checking it out uh and part of it will be the matchbox Children's Theater presenting their original uh theater work on with themes of belonging in community which was funded um by the culture and arts commission with a grant from seac so um lots of reasons to go out and see uh the artworks Festival uh it'll be all day Saturday and Sunday um and then uh I just wanted to comment I just so happened to be at uh Todd Park this morning with my daughter and I saw so many positive things I saw even those Monday morning trash cans that were not overflowing I saw recycling bins available at the um uh structures picnics shelters uh I saw families playing uh on the playground equipment I saw Runners I saw bikers I saw frisbee golfers um the grass looked great uh the new bridge uh over the little Waterway there that had been out for some time looks great so just wanted to to comment on that and say how much I appreciate our Park system um and of course how much my daughter loves the robot slide all right and you do too I and I do too I didn't go I didn't go up in it today but I've been to the top thank you Laura Mike uh also excited about the artworks Festival it's always one of my favorite weekends in town and then just a shout out to everybody who put together and volunteered or worked at the uh National Night Out was great to see so much of our Public Safety team out there and lots of the community interacting and uh it's just a great night for it so thanks everyone excellent thanks Mike Jeff uh three things one um our city clerk and her office did a spectacular job with the primary elections well done um for those of you that weren't here for the second for those of you that weren't here for um the dog hearing last Monday uh um you missed a really fine example of some damn fine police officers and I hope we uh um I know you know Craig also talked but the the stars of the show were um some unusually thoughtful and compassionate men so I it was uh it was kind of a different experience and but it was that was certainly the the star of the show um last looking forward to talking about this budget we are way far away from what I think is humanly and reasonably acceptable and look forward to that discussion very good that's it thank you Jeff uh nothing your honor Jason just wish a wonderful happy birthday to my wife can't believe she didn't want
