following school year 20 19 and 20 we found great success for with a mindfulness program called M Yeti post pandemic school year 2122 with the help of the max Maran Foundation we were able to bring a new program to our Kade of four students called dreamy kid this program has proven successful the teachers and their students with the maximum in support our students continued this program in the 2023 222 23 school year and will be continuing it in the 23 24 school year this program helps teach our students coping skills like meditation and emotional intelligence the combination of healthy found in supplies luxuries Necessities for soldiers overseas um who won't be home this holiday season most if not all of our overseas soldiers have family here in the states and they won't be able to see them because they're so so far away protecting our country and we want to let them know that their hard work and sacrifice isn't going unnoticed this is officially our eighth year running the project and the program at itself and we are so estatic about the growth and project this project this project has accumulated over the past few years last year we sent out about 70 large flat R shipping boxes uh with about 4ish collection sites this year however we've had 10 established collection sites the high school brakman middle school Horbelt intermediate lefties Tavern Hutchinson pools Vinnie's Pizzeria DMM Law Firm Apple V of manah hawen fusero pizza and Manahawkin as well as Chick-fil-A and you can only imagine the scale of donations that we will bring in with so many shipping Partners this year and pivoting from years prior but how could I not mention the most important person to this project Michelle Hoffman back in 2016 she kicked up this collection then as Lombardi now as my sister Michelle had sent my brother monthly care packages overseas when he was on 400-day orders in Qatar after a few months Michelle realized she could do it at a much larger scale and at that time and at a time that people wanted it the most so that next holiday season Mich Michelle started the collection to send care packages all over the world after a few years I'd been happy to take over the project and continue the tradition Michelle's huge heart and amazing Outreach have truly touched the hearts of so many people and Christmas and camouflage lives on to this day with this being my third year running the project I'm truly Blown Away by how the community comes together and Roots behind one cause and the best part is we're only getting started Friday morning we were set to send off all these donations with two long days of pack packaging ahead of us operation Jersey cares will come in early morning on Friday to take all of our packages and distribute them worldwide and we just can't wait so if you have any last minute donations feel free to donate thumb to our 10 designated locations if you're unable to we encourage you to stream Christmas and camouflage by Michelle Lombardi on any part platform you get your music All Pro proceeds from the song support this year's Christmas and camouflage operation once again thank you so much for this opportunity and Merry Christmas in camouflage so thank you Danny I had the pleasure of being the principal over at the Colin school when this program started so we then had a Miss Lombardi and we had Gallagher Samantha Fitz Morris Morgan Schwarz Rebecca doz Kayla best Romina Machado Candela Sarah Bria Danielle tasula Eric Wald and then Gary Brown's family um also Patriot Financial uh those individuals came out and uh donated their a few hours of their time to make sure that the toys were organized um so that the families could come in and uh receive those donations so a big shout out shout out to them thank you so much for donating your time um some District highlights I'd like to give a shout out to the transportation department who took the Meadow Edge Social Club a recreational club for adults with special needs on a tour around barnegate to see the holiday lights uh thank you to Bayside chapel and the United Way of Mammoth and ocean counties for your coat donations congratulations to Michelle cinat I don't know if she's still here nope she ran out the side door but congratulations to Michelle cinat for the darts well-deserved recognition we are grateful for your 36 years of unwavering support and dedication to the students and families of barnegate uh gifted and talented hosted an endangered animal assembly for third grade gifted and talented students and their families which was pretty awesome uh duny The Polar Express uh which was held last uh last week I believe uh we had over 500 uh people attend so that was a very exciting event uh the Middle School created a positivity board for students and staff to share words of encouragement and positive messages um so each day it gets erased and uh it's it's a pretty cool thing to sit back and watch the students as they go by stop and then put words of encouragement on this board they really uh uh adopted this and and ran with it um Jamie White was named the nj.com short conference bowler of the week so congratulations to Jamie congratulations to Emily dansson who's the girls volleyball coach uh she was selected as the Press of Atlantic City's coach of the year believe this is her first year coaching so congratulations to Emily and student wingmen facilitated their Dylan Wings events uh for the first week of December um so that's an exciting initiative that we have here at the high school so we're super excited about uh that continuing to go underway and uh just a big uh thank you to the maximilan foundation they've been partners with the district now for a few years and each year their generous donations allow us to continue to put forth some social and emotional supports for our students uh which is uh definitely of need and uh and uh really generous of them to partner with us uh big shout out to Horbelt obviously heard their choir tonight those guys were fantastic they were here for about an hour before the board meeting practicing um and obviously that showed they're very talented uh young men and women they were awesome and last but not least just want to wish everybody a happy holiday and a happy New Year thank you thank you Dr Lewis uh so this year flew by and I'm sure we're all looking forward to winter break at the end of each year I reflect on what happened over the course of this year what was good what was bad what could I have done different to provide a more desirable outcome what do I need to do next year so what was good we had a lot of success still with prek program continues to grow we've had to add new classrooms to keep up demand and we still have a waiting list we passed our audit with no negative findings there's significant improvements in certain grades and which show where our district could be uh the Edward School demolition was finally completed and in all aspects uh it's not good that we had to lose such a beautiful building but it is good that the anchor left around this District's neck is gone uh and then finally our staff every day a child in this district is individually impacted by a staff member who that child will remember forever we have some amazing staff members they are all people who make our district great I would like to thank each of you personally without you it would all fall apart uh what was bad this year is our board is broken we are not aligned that making school boards schools better is the goal we spent hours needlessly talking about politically charged misinformation filled rhetoric that doesn't impact our district and takes attention away from the things that do make an impact the budget we short changed the district this year and what they needed to improve because our town committee scared large portions of our town we did not give them the tools they need to make things better just to maintain status quo we need families to speak up for their schools next year to avoid the limited review next year to avoid the limited review we are offered actions are in place to have the board involved earlier in the process for the budget our staff how does our staff end up both good and bad because we still lose staff at an alarming rate every day when we have a high flyer we can't keep them because they can earn more in the same county we' have lost supervisors because they make more money as a teacher in another District our district has lost so many good people because our schools are not supported adequately we have strong local ba candidates that will not apply because our board is and I quote crazy and we pay below Market rates not being able to recruit and retain the best talent is a major weakness it will lead to negative outcomes for our entire Community I used to wonder why it was so difficult to get good good people to run for the Board of Ed in the past I thought it was apathy but it's not it's sensibility I'm not certain what it would have led to a more desirable outcome this year every month was an endless loop of Challenge and devaluing our community by board members and other community leaders we're still debating the beastro and politically driven policies but at the end of the day no one is upset that our students are underperforming can't read write or do math on grade level voters made clear that taxes were their priority it's unfortunate that much of this decision was based on lies and fear Monger our schools need more than status quo they need to be successful this is a major disconnect for me I pay a lot in taxes I don't want to waste money that said our district needs and deserves constant investment in its Improvement our community deserves best we can offer this is not a dollars and cents decision if our community's children are not worth investing in what is so what am I doing next year this will be my last meeting as a board of education member I have great pride in the successes we did have I no longer feel this board is working towards a common goal the past year I spent more time blocking and defending poor pure nonsense and adding values to our schools I'm not here to play games and be forced to endure political theater this is a volunteer position if I'm going to spend time away from my family I need to feel satisfied that we will be successful large portion of this Board of Ed I do not have that confidence I still have a student in the district and will continue to be involved in the organizations throughout the community I want to thank everybody that has worked with me uh we have had some some good success that I am proud of I always be proud of my time on this board uh and and the people that I met so thank you and that's all I have for right now and I please have a motion to enter public session no moved second anybody online or let me I gotta do the Sorry Miss Angus yes Miss churny yes Miss jeie yes Mr Imon yes Miss leevy yes Mr Sno yes Miss tarnowski yes Miss Washburn yes Mr O'Brien yes we're in public session with that uh the barnegate Township Board Board of Education appreciates and welcomes public comment advice and suggestions especially when it's intended to assist the Board of Education please feel free to speak to the board during public session comments and discussion will be limited to one five minute period per individual unless requested by the chairperson to continue on a point of clarification public comment at a special meeting will of comments by an announcement of their name address and group affiliation if appropriate your anticipated courtesy to the members of the public and the board is appreciated with that the floor is open okay uh Mrs morganoff who is the Bea liaison left a comment in the chat that I'd like to read off the barnegate Education Association would like to CR congratulate Samantha Burke on becoming VP of the donu school and thank you thank her for all the she has done for the Bea they would also like to thank the barnegate Board of Education the barnegate school administration teachers Paris bus drivers secretaries custodians and all the people that make this school district great uh for a fantastic 23 we wish you all a happy holidays and a wonderful new year so thank you this Morgan off would anybody in the room like to speak anybody online uh Miss besque has her hand raised if you can please turn your camera on and uh name and address for the record can you hear me okay yes Elizabeth Bas 15 heatherway barate New Jersey first of all I have to say I was not expecting that Mr O'Brien um we cannot thank you enough for your time that you have put um towards this District so I'm kind of speechless and I can't really address that right now um um my purpose for speaking tonight was actually to educate the board and the public um I have quite a few notes and a lot of things to say um so um I know you can't respond but I'm just going to throw them out there and forgive me for being a little halfhazard I did not expect Mr O'Brien's resignation um so my son is part of uh the honors chemistry class um and I've been speaking um with the supervisors um in Mr McGee um in regards to this um one concern that I have is that there is no replacement for the science supervisor when Mrs oel um oel uh was out on maternity leave we had a replacement for her um when you email Miss Kennedy uh your directed to email a secretary um so I'm curious um about that I'm also curious um in my conversations um I was looking for the chemistry teacher who's been appointed to replace um Mrs kahill um and I can't find anything in the board notes so please forgive me if I'm wrong um I don't know if that's because we hire a subservice um because we hire the subservice is that why nothing is posted to say who's replacing who but I do think that we need a teacher on record um it's also I couldn't find uh my son's physical education teacher is on matern uh paternity leave I couldn't find a replacement for him either um but yet there are people in the room um ad menum I was looking for the cost of ad menum because I was speaking with Mr barbier about that um hold on to your hats people there is no teacher in the room it is an asynchronous instruction um for honor students they get a slideshow and um answer five questions so the letter that we received which I very clearly addressed with Administration um but I think you should know also is not transparent all of this is not transparent and I wholeheartedly blame Administration for this um not the board and not the Committees um I was told that synchronous instruction was for AP students only because it was too expensive to pay for for uh the 51 honor students um I can't find the cost of AD mum anywhere in the board minutes so maybe it's under a different title but I don't know definitely not transparent um let's see how much time do I left few minutes thank you um so now we're losing a second retired teacher um in our letter it said that someone was being replaced in February like a human teacher certified teacher chemistry teacher was going to come um I can't find that in the board notes um now there's talk of sharing Services listen there is no argument here that education is a struggle um but I do believe um that goes directly back to what Mr O'Brien mentioned you are in a contract negotiations year for your teachers your teachers need to be your first priority you need to make this District appealing to stay and to come to work because our kids feel it our children feel the stress of your teachers so we can't hire teachers because nobody wants to come and stay and we're losing good quality people and not incentivizing people to come back from their leaves of absence so um as you struggle to find a new business administrator I would put on the list of job qualities someone who can work out negotiations because if that person cannot work out salary guides and negotiate a respectable contract for your teachers I know your Administration is also underpaid no argument there but the teachers are the front line so I I don't know I think I've covered it all um as things begin continue to change for this chemistry position I expect to be notified um accurately um no false advertisement The Truth Listen education stinks right now but I want the truth and I want transparency because you all claim to be very transparent and that is not what the community the parents the students are getting right now thank you anybody else online anybody else in the room I please have a motion to adjourn public session second Miss Angus yes Miss jurny yes Miss jeie yes Mr aamon yes
