the College of your choice thank you and as always if you have somewhere to go we understand going right down in Virginia that Natalia Nigro thank you very and at this time before we go to board I would like to um give an update on support business uh the m l agreement agreement uh in summary very briefly in late May our board received the last of the information we asked for back in December January and enrollment data that we more recently asked for we nearly had a chance to review this information since we've been involved in our superintendent principal search uh Missing information is limited to the Mars py School of Technology biotech Academy enrollment and how Mountain Lakes High School costs were allocated to those students were ready to meet with Mountain Lakes for education or the representatives to discuss Solutions we maintain that we do not want to adjust or true up to final tuition to actual cost for pup at the same time we've been waiting for this information we've had to consider any and all high school options for our school district the next provent step is to conduct a feasibility study which is where a consultant reviews and evaluates the feasibility of any and all school districts which are viable options for our children to attend high school from time to time this could be a prudent set to take even if we didn't have a disagreement with out Lakes the study can tell us that there are better options or validate our existing Arrangement you should know that our eighth graders are going to Mountain Lakes high school this fall and all students who are currently attended can continue doing so it's premature to speculate beyond that at this time our hope and expectation is that we will meet with Mountain Lakes in the near future fully explore options and solutions and reach an agreement with our friends in Mountain Lakes and with that um they had the motion for board visit motions A1 through A3 A14 I'll is there a second thank you any questions comments or discussion if not questions on the adoption of motions A1 through A4 this appears to be all paper say I I anyone oppos say no any exensions and then that brings us to board business motions 1 through 4 may have a motion please move is there a second second any questions comments or discussion if not the questions on the adoption of board this is motions 1 through four all those in favor say I I anyone oppos say no any exensions and that BRS us to administrative reports from our business administrator board secretary Mr okay thank you Mr Brandon just a couple of items uh as uh as usual all building systems are up and running no issues for report commencement exercises preparations are underway um finalizing U those Day activities all planting beds will be weeded m uh spruced up chairs are set to be delivered grass will be cut the bushes will be trimmed uh in the ceremony there will be reserved parking spaces along the field for the foundation auction winners as well as board members who have responded so that they will be attending so we'll have cones out there along the grass if anybody is attending the Cod will be out there to helpy park so we know that it's little bit crazy out there so those attending will be able to um not youate for the ceremony um say again 7.m 7.m uh also as a reminder I will not be at the ceremony due to a conflict my daughter's High School graduation but we'll have all the custodians there to assist you uh as a referendum followup um even though the referendum did not pass the district still responsible for related expenses and the last Bills have finally come in bond attorney fees um legal fees total approximately $5,600 and the election day expenses from the county of Mars just came in and that total about $155,000 so regardless of whether the referend the passes and fails there still expenses that associate with it and none of those expenses are eligible for state fund and that is all I have to rep great thank you and that brings us to the SEC report okay good evening everyone uh a few things to report first and foremost uh last week I had the privilege of being on the eighth grade DC trip and I'm always happy to report every year that our students represented themselves their families and their school extremely well we had a we had a really nice time it was jam-packed I mean we walked Miles and Miles every day we were extremely fortunate that the weather cooperated it was warm but it wasn't too terribly hot in Washington and honestly it didn't seem as crowded quite frankly as it normally is um so it's just we we really had a nice time it's a great culminating event for our students it's a wonderful bonding a time where they can bond together one last time as a class and uh certainly as I said represented themselves very well as Mr Murray mentioned 8th grade commencement plans have been well underway commencement is Wednesday next Wednesday it meet from today the 19th at 700 p.m. board members that have 8th grade children and there are four you are able to deliver your son or daughter's diploma to them so you'll look to us you know Barry has an eighth grader but he's already there for for the diploma so um you'll just look to us and we'll call you up when you see your son or daughter in line and you'll be able to to hand them their diplomas we uh unfortunately will not be able to use Mountain Lakes facility in the event of inclement weather every year we're able to use the Mountain Lakes Auditorium that's air conditioned uh in the event of inclement weather unfortunately this year sort of at the 11th hour we found out from the business administrator's office in Mountain Lakes that they they graduate on the 18th and on the 19th they're starting work on the air conditioning in the auditorium so unfortunately with the timing I guess it just uh didn't work out they're starting that project on the 19th so we've already made Provisions here we informed students we've had we've been having practices with them here and we informed the kids that with our capacity and with the number of kids that we have that are graduating quote unquote that each student would receive five tickets to use for indoors here fortunately I know it could be warm inside however our commencement even with 68th graders will be under an hour okay an hour at the most but I would be shocked in all likelihood will be under an hour last year we we had a much smaller class but the entire ceremony was only about 35 minutes so I would anticipate about an hour or so okay um an update to year one of our strategic plan is forthcoming it will be shared with the board and with our community in the coming weeks we've made tremendous progress quite frankly in only a short amount of time we actually sometimes have to remind ourselves that it is a 5-year plan um but we'll be able to to share that and process that out with our community shortly and I I I just wanted to publicly thank the botin township Township committee and mayor onen who recognized me for my years of service here in the district at Monday night's meeting and also Chief ketchup bab in the bo Township PD who recognized me at one of their meetings in miday it's just uh it was really nice it was unexpected I truly am humbled and appreciative of the partnership that we have with our PD and our Township committee and um I was very grateful to the members of the Board of Ed that happen to be there we're celebrating some of our uh some of our Girl Scouts too and it was just nice to see you there so thank you very much and finally just happy Father's Day this Sunday to all of our RBS dads hope that you enjoy it that concludes my report great thank you very much may have a quick question yes is there any discussion about the ability I know I have with my older ones but I think they've changed their way is the ability to hand out diplomas of the high school to our graduating seniors or is that now changed we can it's changed greatly since Co I think and since probably section came in actually in the past the board president and his superintendent T used to be part of the ceremony and they are no longer so I would suspect that that is not a possibility okay I'm not even sure if their members do that to be honest I don't know but you can sit on the field next to the graduate well I responded I think even dating back to when Adrien charlon was on the board I'm not 100% sure but I'm not even sure that I think it went sideways Adrian begin even back and she was a representative as she was a representative I remember that conversation so let's see so with that we got to the nurses report the student attendance report and the faculty attendance report and that brings us to accommodations okay thank you to everyone who made the Washington DC trip so memorable and enlightening for our eighth graders thank you especially to eighth grade advisor Mrs scavetti to our chaperon Mr Turner Mrs mongan Mrs Savage Mrs Leman Mr Monaco Mrs tols and Mrs naratic and of course the HSA for helping out with certain expenses related to the trip congratulations to the following students for having been accepted into these acmy of the Morris County vocational technical school Nina dooa the academy for performing arts and vocal performance Braden Long the academy for Global Commerce finance and Supply Chain management Julie pich the academy for Law and Public Safety and Nolan Stone the academy for computer and information Sciences Flying high in fourth grade for May congratulations to Lila Burns Dean Vasquez Sasha Patty and Kendall hul Spotlight on student work for May congratulations to the following students in kindergarten to Valentina Buco and Cali shovi and in third grade Kyle cassella Olivia field Paxton Papa Maria Victoria Perez Boston and Avery Ryerson and to our Falcons of the month for May congratulations to the following students in fifth grade to Ariel Murillo in sixth grade to Liam ran in seventh grade to Brianna Tong and in eighth grade to Jordan loveing and those conclude our commendations actually have a question regarding accommodations um I noticed that there were five night readers so there's four very asud Mr the reason that there are five is because one of those students is a booten Township student booten Township resident but is not an RBS student okay so they will be attending okay the agenda thank you thank you and with that you all have a chance to look at correspondence one and two which brings us to open session number one the first public commentary will be to agenda items only the second public commentary go to be open any topic please be mindful that public commentaries are available to enable the public to give comments and feedback to the board personal matters day-to-day operations are not appropriate subjects for board meetings these can always be most effectively resolved with the appropriate staff members or administrators according to the chain of command concept questions may be directed to the appropriate School Personnel or board through email please state your name and address for the record and all comments are you 5 minutes anyone from the public wish to address word agenda there there being no one that brings us to the aison report starting with the m boort of Education [Music] that's so there have been two meetings since we last met June May 20th and June 10th I missed May 10 20th meeting as that was our first round of superintendent interviews um last night Mr s or Monday night Mr St gave a very interesting report I think something that we would all want to look at so I recommend going on and watching the presentation but it was on the postsecondary outcomes report so it's all about where the kids went to college um what college application Play what was interesting and kind of impressive that there was like a near record number of consist to I League scho schools but there was also one of the highest enrollments they've had in years um for mors County Community College so um it went from three to 11 students going more um to a two-year program um also there was a wide range of schools that had not been on the radar before so it's kind of illustrating that students are really like casting wide nuts and like looking for the right foit it's just a new kind of dynamic um there's 151 students 86% are going to fouryear programs and 8% are going to 2-year programs um the average number of applications that uh that the seniors spelled out were nine um and he mentioned he was recently out a conference um and the uh they talked a lot about the pros and cons of early decision there's a number of students that are going Ed is um like at an alltime High um and uh you said that 61 students applied early decision and 42% were accepted um and I guess the reason behind it is it drives money and yield for the colleges um so they're favoring this process of going through their own decision um the other thing that they talked a lot about is the use of artificial intelligence in the college application process it's increased prevalent because uh com app makes it easy to apply to many colleges so colleges are reing 50 to 70,000 applications so they use AI as part of screening the applicants so it's um kind a um a new area that college planners and counselors are going to have to want enough new skills to learn um there were um they we had some highlights uh recognizing students for the National Merit Scholars two teams Lake Drive and the mountain lak Foundation grants they funded $40,000 in teachers grants and they go through you can see that in presentations as well um new for next year M Mr Char's got an oldfashioned Bell and so students will when they get acceptable bring theel so kind of like a goodby in the school so we're kind of excited about that um and there are some lovely speeches honoring Mr featherman on his regarding the fac the auditorium HB is happening um they're working to minimize the impact um the kitchen is being renovated um and that upgrade is underway uh and the curriculum after much stakeholder discussion the district chose super Kips K to2 reading program to support um the curriculum and it aligns for the science of reading um professional development and parent literacy nights will be coming in fut um regarding the hbag um renovation of 2.4 million um it will be offset by they got a $900,000 grant for this um the class of 2020 families are also being surveyed because there's a lot of funds left in this class du and they're trying to decide what to do with them what's fair should they be fund they want to do a project or that to um they're looking for computer science teacher and the administration and staff um have spent the entire year discussing and evaluating their teacher evaluation model and they chose the strong evaluation model um and uh regarding the calendar so there was a snapu calendar where dates were miscalculated in January and so they put um two days were taken removed from their their week long February grade and so there obviously people aren't happy some people have made location plans already based on the calendar that was already approved so um a proposal was put out there but it wasn't Ved and so it's good to hear but they're going to talk to the mlea and see if they want to change anything but as of now it stands and I think there's a lot on social media about where where it's going to go but I think there is no there's no changes um and just regarding school security um the board has created a subcommittee um and they're in talks with mountain lak's police department to find a suitable security solution to replace Sergeant vas um it's ongoing discussion this summer and it will include the new superintendent so they'll there'll be more to report on that for next year thank you can I ask be the grant that state or someone else um think I don't answer that thank you thank you that brings us to New Jersey school boards Association um the only thing to report is that the NBA endorsed the newly enacted law [Music] thank you thank you Andis I reported out about the last meeting at thank you uh Educational Services Commission of mors County I just attended their meeting prior to this meeting uh they're on a fiscal year they're not on the calendar year so each year they're they have representative assembly that convenes it represents u u board members appointed from every Mars County municipality that it serves plus there are some uh school districts outside Mar count it serves they all get together and then they vote on the the board of directors which is 15 SCH district and and then from that point they adjourn the representative assembly meeting they go to the board of directors meeting and go on routine business so boot Township has been elected to their Board of Directors for this coming year again and I'll be representing them through the end of this year so he point someone next um and we also approved the board of distri gos and that includes my report and that brings us to the bo T special education parent advice is ficia Alicia she sent me a report okay um she said ceg is currently preparing our annual end of the school year report which will be presented to the district the next cpeg meeting is scheduled for July where they will review past year and appoint new C officers thank you and brings us to the bo Township Education Foundation uh a quick update Ed Foundation wrapped up a good year um TR but thank you to the foundation [Music] andriv uh and the last thing I will say is yed foundation and HSA are hosting a farewell party for our very young a little uh Wednesday June 26th 6:30 to 1030 at The Rock Bri Community CL adults great thank you and that brings us to the rway valy Home School Association so I was unable to attend that meeting but there were two scholarships given out at that meeting I'm not sure who the me for laa did not share that but there were two HSA scholarships call I I'll have to look back to be honest with you in the in the notes because I don't I don't recall off hand but every year this is something that the HSA does for two graduating RVs students at the high school um and it's it's selected randomly there is a criteria that they put forth I believe that they had about 27 applicants that could be f with that number but it was an impressive applicant pool and they did select two students thank you and that bring us to tou appr from Yes uh couple things to rec uh Rockaway River keepers are sponsoring a pies for tires River clean on Sunday June 30th beginning 11:00 a.m. collect garbage and tires from the river and trade them for pizza from local pizzerias meet on uh or at the canoe launch between 31 and 73 Rockaway drive and the flyer is on the township website summer starts June 24th and rindy is the next day the 28th and there will be a public hearing on the update to the township open space and Recreation plan on Monday July 15th at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building that concluded my report great thank you I will say it stayed for the rest of the township committee meeting and they did do a presentation on that OT Township has done a great job in preserving open space starting back in 1991 when they passed an open space tax to fund it I think they uh Reserve 1500 up to 1500 acres in Township has open space they've done some great work there uh with that the boot Township for I can report on that for please um so thanks to Alicia by the way she has um LED four separate cleanups throughout the spring into the summer and we've cleaned up help through with a few of them over 60 Giant garbage from like many streets in mattres and all kinds of things it's so um so that was that was fun volunteer work we had a lot of like sophomore service hours um get earned that way so it's going cre a good Community um Endeavor and um we're looking into paring maybe with mountain laks for styrofoam collection and looking to [Music] startle if I can retro back a little bit um the homel school scholarships went to Jon J and William yes we just going to say that thank you thank you very much where did you find that that I know you do know I remember reading it yes and I remember will congratulations and great thank you at this time we going attention to a very brief close session uh required to read at this time I'd like to entertain a motion to enter to Executive session to discuss issues that W confidentiality is permitted public me act 231 of the laws of 19 these matters may or may not be made public when the board regs they will be made public when the confidential the subject was not warranted the topic is personnel and student matters we're going to be very brief and when we come back we're going to go through the rest of our agenda starting the beginning of our agenda question so there will be action take we come back after our brief close session I have that motion please is there a second second all those in favor say hi hi thank you it is 8:30 and we have returned our close session at this time a entertaining motion actually first facili Transportation committee report yes the report we had our meeting on Monday evening which was just two days ago June 10 there are three motions on the agenda to kind of give the high points on each of them for motion one back in the 2023 2024 school year we solicited bids for transportation services this U motion is to renew those Services um bus routes provided by first student for the upcoming school year 2024 25 you can see the amount um listed in um the agenda and additionally as part of that motion is a administrative fee of an additional $6,600 the second motion is for applications for use of educational space for the upcoming school year you can see um very specifically each of the rooms and what it's going be used for um so that's motion two and then motion three is to approve a best evacuation drill that happened on June 5th and you can see the routes that participated there and the step that were part of that drill so those are the three motions um that we discussed on thank you and with that I have a motion for facilities motions 1 through three is there a second any questions comments or discussion if not the questions on the adoption ofili's motions 1 through three all those in favor say I anyone oppos say no any exensions and that brings us to finance yes we met on May 30th um we discussed Finance motions 1 through 15 um I will begin to summarize those as just St a lot but it's all are standard rals for out of placements tuition different programs contractors the had a good discussion around that and we also discussed the M lent SE specifically as there before commencing a feasibility study and cost around that um we also discuss option [Music] scenarios sound great thank you and with that we have a motion for finance motions 1 through 16 I'll move is there a second I'll second are there any questions comments or discussion if not the questions on the adoption of Finance motions this is all favor say hi hi anyone oppos say no any exensions and that sayess to personel have my not with me so going toiz the overviews that there were there's appointments on the agenda of staff and then for new hires and I think that thank you and with that we have a motion for motions 1 through 19 is there a second any questions comments or discussion that we is there I just a question maybe formality um the last on personel 18 substitute teacher is that just so the reason no the it's a good question the reason that that's there is because all of the other substitutes are re appointments okay they're already in our system this is a new substitute so that's why that sub is standal any other questions comments or discussion okay if not the questions on the adoption of personal motions 1 through 19 this will be a Mrs B yes Mr brandner yes Mrs Cabana yes Mr Chen yes Mrs hermy yes Mr Johnson yes Mr mcde yes Mr M yes M car thank you that brings us to program curriculum the program curriculum committee met on June 10th we effectively discussed PR motions 1 two3 on the agenda we discussed theing the old textbooks gr the new the new textbooks which is really the textbook list which is mainly the same textbooks we have last year there no new additions also appr approval of the breakable which is annually at this time of year we also discussed the student safety data system submission at Dr report ear and we also discuss the Peri commencement ceremony and that motion for program motions three I'll move is there a second second any questions com through discussion um I just I had asked questions and answer that I would happy about sometimes people look at the list of texts and see an old date and um and that that resources valid use a lot of new consumables so it's not issue thank [Music] you [Music] frame so that's summer work so we'll do that over the summer the curriculum's there it's just the Curriculum maps any revisions that that are being made to the curricular Maps be finalized over the summer with our Administration and our curriculum team of teachers and then it's on 1st September start any other questions comments or discussion if not the question is on the adoption of program Motion 1 through three and this looks like it all favor say I anyone say no any exensions there are no policies on agenda we're up to date as of now and that brings us to open session number two the second public comment period will be open to the topic please be mindful the public comment periods are Avail to enable the public to give comments and feedback to the board personal matters and day-to-day operations are not appropriate subject to the board meetings these can always be most effectively resolved the appropriate staff members of Administrators according to the chain of plan concept questions may be directed to the appr school personnel and board through email please St your address for the record and come to but they want from the public should support on any matter the okay there be no one we will move to Old business the old business come before the board and is there any new business to come before the court [Music] um we been discussing the now later question yes we have been discussing at various levels the job description for super principal at this point I probably [Music] not policy we're we're working on WE to reviewing the different descriptions but an update there is there is a superintendent principal on that's yeah yes and in review you going through our superintendent search we are looking uh the board so we can get the superintendent principal job description and perhaps maybe looking to um update it to um I guess something uh form like the new school boards Association s policy they have a u policy a sample policy that uh covers a superintendent principal so we don't have to worry about taking a principal one and a superintendent one and adding together they actually already have a a sample policy for that which I wasn't aware of until recently so um so we're just going to look at that a little bit more and perhaps you know they very soon needed you know consider making some changes thank you I'm glad you did is there any other new business before the board John just a quick question um you mentioned the beds being yeah being planted and stuff for graduation M and stuff those two pots coming in the front door are they going to be weeded and planted we'll take care of all that it's a big dandelion in there PR pretty yellow flow I don't know are we going to I don't know if it will still consider pointing in negotiations or not after we're done I guess we can we can leave that option open for our our public um we don't know if we need one yeah I don't know if we need one but that could be we need take action after a CL session but that would be the only thing that we would be taking action on if anyone wanted to be you know the members are appointed by the bo president but the creation of the committee could be the only possibility that um a board actually might take and thank you and is there any other put the board if not uh may have a motion to enter into executive session to discuss issues of board confidentiality as permitted the public meetings act 231 of 1975 matters may may not any public the board be conven they any public subject is so long warranted we have three topics for this evening first thing is the superintendent valuation the second thing is Mountain Le update update on that L uh negotiations and the third thing is related to superintendent search and with that motion move second second all in favor say I and as I stated there may be word action taken if you we feel it need to create negotiations that will be the only thing we may do at the other end of the meeting and otherwise uh we'll be a close session until I'm not sure one thank you okay it is 10:41 p.m. we have just returned from closed session at this time uh the board would like to appoint a negotiations committee for the purposes of negotiating our superintendent principal contract and the members will be Mrs Bardock Mr Mills Mr Chen and Mr Brandon and may we have that motion please I'll move I'll second any to discussion if not those in favor say I I OPP say no thank you there is no other board action may have to adjourn move second there second all those in favor say I I okay thank you see you at the next meeting
