##VIDEO ID:6myXqz_9SdA## um one slight change on 5.1 it say high school student council no report uh we will actually hear from Mrs Ru about the trip to Costa Rica at that time than that no other changes to approve the agenda as amended second motion by director Bosler seconded by director on to approve the agenda as amended further discussion all those in favor signify by saying I those OPP sign motion carries uh consent agenda so under the consent agenda we do have uh 3.1 minutes from regular meeting November 18th uh 3.2 Finance checks and wires 3.3 payroll check expense revenue reports and 3.6 Bond any questions on the consent agenda there we have to do no there's still some [Music] the um the piece isn't completed wire from the Cur not obviously any other questions hearing none I second motion by director second by director Bosler approve a consent agenda any further discussion hear none all those in favor signify say right those Clos sign motion carries public comments no one can speak because student staff constitu reports uh this is R awesome well I wanted to give you a little recap and I'm not sure if you had read um the brief synopsis of 13 towns of ghost Rica tour we made the front page would um thanks to Stacy hler she um wrote up that summary of our successful trip to PTO Rica and the photo um enclosed and we just submitted that to the um I submitted that to add at 13 and I was going to double check you know like did you receive it because you didn't say whether or not heed it and so then I'm like see the paper and we're good to go and it was I was like score um I wanted to share with you um some commentary from um the students themselves and a couple of the chaperon I was wondering if some of you would like to also read them so you know that it's not dictated by me um that it's their own words uh so would you like to read like three each and then that way you see their they written in Spanish no all in engl all in English um I did tell them that um that it would be good if they mentioned um okay score a little not gonna touch it know um so here was just a couple allowed um I have them address it to the dear school board members and FHS admin thank you so very much I greatly appreciate the opportunity to go to Costa Rica I'm very glad I was able to go on a trip to Costa Rica um I will always remember this trip my favorite activity with the snorkeling because I got to see all the different types of sea life that was um in the water how I grew as an individual I learned how to work with a group I look forward to um going to a different country for the first time and seeing all the different sites Keegan Ruby um hler Stacy was one of my chaperon and her daughter Brena also participated um as a chaperon she mentioned that she was thankful for the opportunity to chaperon the group of students on their Spanish trip to Costa Rica it was so gratifying to watch the students encounter a different culture manying for the first time um our T guides remarked several times that the students were so respectful and it was evident that they cared about one another they were always in for an adventure even when it made them a little uncomfortable they and I made lifelong core memories and experien things that will'll never likely um have ever had the opportunity to do again thank you for allowing them opportunity to take this trip Stacy hler I was so grateful for this opportunity to expand my knowledge of on Costa Rica I wanted to go because I wanted to learn more about their culture experience new things and try new foods my favorite activity was definitely salsa dancing I love dancing and it gave me a better Insight on their culture there were just so many opportunities to learn something new I grew so much as an individual because of what EF introduced to us I learned so much about the sustainability and not wasting the resources that I have um I've loved having conversations with the tour guides and locals this trip was so amazing because it let me practice Spanish in everyday situations there were even sometimes when Spanish was the only option to communicate I'm so grateful for the trip and I know I will remember it forever that was hler so as you can see did you want to share any allower um I can rip through one them thank you for allowing us to journey to Costa Rica really enjoy traveling experiencing many cultures my favorite activity was ziplining because I got to see the whole jungle from a bird's I view definitely grew more independent and organized I learned that cooster rans use the phrase Pita a lot say it's okay or you're welcome and everything you all three I just wanted to make sure that you saw but I okay sure they did it in English so any questions about the trip you can see there on Words total number of students that went the total number of students were 23 23 23 students and three chaperons besides myself and we go every other year is that every two so I'll be asking in the springtime so they can they have a year and a half almost the fall of 2026 will be the next ten plan if approved um uh my it'll be a little different I would like to return back to Spain uh for a Madrid and Barcelona tour and that's what we did leading up to um before Co transpired after Co we did a domestic trip to Puerto Rico and then just a little closer we had the students and parents choose between um COA r or Spain it was like a $500 cost differential and there was more there was quite a few um either ores but there was a little more just for the Democracy vote for Costa Rica so then we chose to go to Costa Rica um just per um my traveling with an eological study tour and the Europe thing when you do an eological study tour you're kind of dependent upon the weather and you can't control the weather um which we were fortunate enough to have wonderful weather the first three days the last two um the students were up for a challenge we were set for a night walk through the jungle and which we did get to see a poisonous dark frog and some this toad and this cool bird and a little oh came in as well um but um it was in a torrential downpour I mean well this we weren't really going to be getting all that wet but we were so that was okay so that was even so then it proved to them that even though a situation that makes you feel a little uncomfortable like what we're going to do this in the dark and you I mean flashlights um but uh we were trudging along and got to see a lot of cool things and there not very many people in the world that can say that they were C A torrential torrential down for um in Costa Rican junle praying for us so um and so that's why I'm thinking more so which was an amazing experience but if you're in Europe and there is a storm you can go into the well Palace and or the P Museum and it's not interrupt your flow of your activity just to give you a head up on that so any other questions the students were super awesome a few of them were um you really are going to tap us in our rooms yes we did take them in their rooms and we Tu them in at night and stuff so that was really good um uh we had an amazing uh opportunity to go um because on a return flight there wasn't a return flight to Fargo on Thanksgiving Day so EF extended a little gave us a little bus tour to um Dallas where we saw where JFK was assassinated and when he was in his car and so that was super um informative as well so we got not only a cultural Spanish lesson but also a historical lesson and um it just so happened that Evan had done a report on jonath Kennedy unknowing um on the assass on his assassination so then he had this whole out of information and it just captivated the students so that was also very um informative and we saw the hospital ALS Al on our bus tour where um he was taken after the incident and another thing that is crazy to me you may not be aware of this but if you go to any major place on a holiday such as Thanksgiving it looks postapocalytic it's like a ghost town we saw like five vehicles and there was only like two other groups of people it was just everybody was like in their homes or at the Dallas game as well as there was a Thanksgiving game there too but that was kind of neat to see Dallas Texas with very few people so yeah no safe travels so thank you again for the wonderful opportunity the students really did grow as individuals and um unlike Puerto Rico where there was a lot of English spoken Costa Rica was not and then they had a lot of their own colloquialisms as well where they mentioned that pure means many things not just pure life but it's all good thank you goodbye hello they just like to say any other questions or comments thanks for organizing had good reviews from students yes it was amazing oh my god um and the students who didn't um even though we from a small town and a small senior um Junior classes they don't necessarily run in the same circle at the individual that went on the trip and so that was really um like wow I didn't realize I would make such good friends with the individuals that I wasn't all I knew of them but not so that was super cool and they they recognize the interest like for instance Alison Caren she was really into the insects and so they like oh Alison check this out and then Caleb check this out with all the toads and the frogs and super awesome for re um she's allergic to all nuts right but Coco our Coco Excursion um we got to see that it goes from the seed to the plant which actually it's a mosquito that um make pollinates the cocoa plant so if it wasn't for this rare mosquito so we just thought it was bird food um those me and mosquitoes but it's a special kind of mosquito that pollinates the cocoa plant but she can't eat mangoes either and the Coco the Coco seed tastes like mango they all got to taken out of the fruit it's kind of the slimy white color and every like what the heck you like put but it tastes like mango and you open and it's like a lilac purple Coco Bean itself is a lilac purple before it's dried and um then when it's dried it feels like almond which Reese can never touch almonds because she's allergic so she's like this is so cool I could e it's something that tastes like mango which she would never have been able to do and also feel what almonds would feel like so did you take a how many kids it look like they're first time flying their first time out of the country the majority the vast majority for flying most definitely um got also out of the country that was yeah the vast majority of them so and then their appreciation to I don't know if you all got a chance to read that um to realize how lucky we are as United States citizens and the benefits that we as Americans have something just even as basic as more than one F to other paper so that's really cool the the infrastructure there cannot handle that or flushing toilet papers on the toilet so that was a little jarring for them all right the Vikings are still [Music] play uh Elementary student leaders you're up hi my name is I'm in sixth grade hi my name and I'm inth grade hi my name isy I'm inth School Mr yes can you play the video you blessings and spread joy to those around us CBS Steve Harman found a group of kids doing that and more on the road the red caps were the only clue the only hit that something Christmas was a foot here something that would soon stri straight to the heart are you guys serious seriously the kids's responsible for these moments of overwelming Joy are all students and former students of Derek Brown a phoenix elementary teacher who uses our on the road stories to teach kindness and character a perennial favorite Secret Santa that wealthy businessman who every year gives out hundreds of hundred bills to random strangers it's impossible this imposs it is possible it's true watching secret Santa do his thing made a huge impression on the kids I was like shocked because well who does that I've never seen anyone like give just give money away like that could you imagine that someday it would be you and so with guys from Mr Brown I said everybody itinerary the kids started a secret santa club and began fundraising calling friends family and businesses they raised $8,000 without any help from their school or District just so they could turn around and give it all away to people like Rosemarie Hernandez rosem Marie had been out of work for a week thank you thank you thank you they also gave money to D Dre Taylor D Dre had just gotten diagnosed with cancer and was down to her last $20 you guys are amazing the children spent the day changing dusts of lives and along the way they noticed something remarkable that the more they e the Mr Brown was hoping for I want this memory to be so strong that it now drives them every day in everything they do did they change you definely I never felt this way in my life this was really a life Cher for me whoever said money can't buy happiness obviously never gave it away Steve Harman on the road in Phoenix got to we decided that we wanted to do something like that but instead of handing out $100 to people all the student leaders are donating a new game like a puzzle a card game or a board game we are having a wrapping party on Wednesday morning we are going to R um the games in har Coco after that we going to get on a bus and donate the games to loes and fish's food show and so that everybody that goes there and like grab and play it over christas with their family what questions do you pass many games will you guys w 18 since there's 18 to the any more questions do this next year as well yeah probably what's your favorite dress of day that you guys came up with a popular one my lksa there it is moving on 6.0 61 accept not accept 2024 payable 2025 Levy certification for 2,489 412 and7 cents they have truth and Taxation meeting prior to this regular board meeting to Second motion by director boster second by director Marcus to approve um 2024 payable 2025 Levy certification yeah any further discussion we'll just do a roll call vote on this there's no other discussion uh dor catch appr director Bosler yes Marcus yes n yes Kristen yes motion carries thank you for that no reports Elementary principal reports yes uh item number one you can see when you look at her enrollment for December downum uh five or four students total went from 355 to 351 and that was we had a couple families that just moved so was nothing other than that obviously we want to be stable with our enrollment but that's where we're at right now so any questions on enrollment item number two is just a a update or reminder we held our Christmas concerts first and second grade and then grades four through six on December 10th um if you were in attendance that night there's a lot of people was in attendance but I just like to thank Mrs Kish uh for her work with first and second graders and also Mrs Hansen for her her help at Christmas concert it was amazing uh very well done it was although there was a lot of people that's we wanted so very good also uh kindergarten uh sang at The Rotary Club luncheon on December 12th they sing a couple songs and then Santa visited um so I like to say thank you to Mrs K again for that and Mrs rest and Mrs helber it's a great opportunity for our kids to participate to that item number three is just some upcoming dates December 20th we have our elementary sing along at 9:30 so you're all invited if you want to participate in that again that's Friday at 9:30 our Christmas break is December 21st through January 2nd the end of this a couple more dates that are later in January January 17th is the end of second quarter which that'll be here before we're halfway through the year and then January 20th is the after Development Day there's no students uh we have an opportunity to have Tim Denny come and speak He's A Mental Health practitioner we've had him here a couple times over the years um he's he'll be presenting the elementary and then coming over to the high school to present as a part of our staff development day then at the elementary we're going to have continued fast Bri training uh and then we're also going to do a curcum review over our new curriculum that we have in place this year that's what I have as if that wasn't enough for Mrs K she also had the third graders at First Care Living Center on yes that's right I forgot I didn't have that she had everyone in the elementary somewhere so thank you for the reminder a great job there thank you Mr P uh Mr yep item number one as well you can see our enrollment numbers we are up plus two from previous month again having some uh obviously new families move into the uh into the district uh November 26th I took five of our sophomore students to Super falls for the Minnesota State High School leadership conference uh kill your puts on that conference and Craig's probably been speaking for 20 some years I would imagine ballpark uh yeah probably all of that um and again his emphasis on doing the right thing leadership uh and again A lot of times we think that that leadership piece is just if you're in a sports team but it's really not it's School leadership um and so I did a little followup just the other day last Friday with those five sophomores and um they all really enjoyed it they they felt like they had some things that they could bring back into the building that again just isn't necessarily sports related so third item there is the excelis program um it is a platform that we're looking to explore and basically right now we are using what's called playdoh for our credit recovery uh course offerings exelis is a program that um initially toted taking a look at Brad brought us into the fold with I've used Excel this before at a different District uh I really like it one of the factors of excelis that I like comparison to PL is PL provides you with the information but then it's kind of like selftaught if you will where excelis is actually a classroom teacher High School teacher putting on a lesson of course it's recorded but then there is some followup Q&A with that and assessment the other piece that excelis adds now um is they use the AI and so let's say that you're working in in algebra and there's a concept that you've missed and and you're just really struggling with it maybe that concept was top back in eighth grade excels will bounce you back to that concept work you through it so that you get brought up the speed to kind of build and uh home those skills so as you can see I'm look the pilot some of this as we get moving forward I've indicated industrial Tech because I want them to utilize it on different things like hbac or Plumbing some of those things that we don't necessarily even though Josh is uh knowledgeable of we just don't necessarily have the opportunity to explore uh with what we have then again some of the other bits will be uh General Credit Recovery that we want to try and so goal is probably move away from Plato into excelis um as you can see our Christmas concert is tomorrow night so we're looking forward to that our crisis team met is going to meet on Wednesday we've already met do you remember was that like two weeks three weeks ago somewh in that ballpark probably Thanksgiving probably before Thanksgiving yep so we just talked a lot about building safety we brought in obviously City police County uh City Fire Department city planner and so on so that we took a look at the wha ifs and we will continue to move forward on you know our planning going forward and and prepping uh participating in the Dak training because of course as we turn the calendar it won't be long and it'll be testing season other pieces the uh 2526 master schedule uh Miss Sanson I have already started kind of percolating over some of those ideas of what we need to change uh other course offerings um all those bits and pieces to try and make sure that as we continue to move forward we already have kind of a good plan in place so it's um out there prior to the end of April if we can and then lastly I just want to give some kudos to miss bulock she's been extremely busy with our Christmas Giving Tree um there were 59 families that she had on that list that she had solicited that or that were uh in need of holiday gifts and so she was extremely busy today with the distribution of all of those things and so uh staff members uh you know get kudos to our staff for all those contributions to those kids in need mrar a lot of stuff going on Mr yeah my report is in front of you as well go quickly um of note is um Boston lby Lions Club and the Boston sportsville club and the school district submitted separate but similar um applications to the uh Department of Natural Resources No Child Left inside n CLI Grant opportunity and um those submissions well two of those three submissions are in one will be submitted U Sport Club will be submitted tomorrow uh upwards of 25,000 have been requested by all three organizations matching funds from the school district and from the Lan L I'm not sure about matching FS from the Sportsman's Club but nonetheless if we're successful and really any of the three or all of the three would be ideal we really are looking for an opportunity to um and I we had to have a project name on the gra so I called it poson public schools outdoor head and it's I mean that's obviously a wide swath of of of what it could be but we're really looking to bring curriculum and then supported support the curriculum outdoor opportunity for our students and those two organizations are very much uh capable and willing to support the school district in that regard so now it's a wait and see and we don't find out until of March yeah so anyway um we got ours in and I know that will is in charge of getting the langy B Lang line in and the sports club will going as well Dan and I meet monthly with Lynette Schwarz regarding e early Tri the family Ed programming and uh obviously we're continuing to talk about spaces and potential opportunities in that regard uh we will need to get a little more serious about that as we he in the spring uh because we are to be looking for a home a new home come September 1st last week I went to a budget reduction seminar um sponsored by Mesa which is the professional organization that superintendant belong to um and it it was interesting uh didn't maybe learn a lot of new things but bring forth some of the thinking of of uh of past but I think the telling thing was there were 30 superintendents there all concerned about budget reductions uh either this current year or next year and obviously we're ready to that vote as well uh just kind of on a social note Christmas party was held last Wednesday there was good participation there and U Good For Fun by all um and those opportunities are important for our school district it's important for our staff and uh thank you to the organizers of that them right here is this elder as well so um it was a fun night and U surprises were giv away good food in a good time um Administration continues to meet out variety subjects um really about the future of of of the district in a number of regards and uh I just appreciate Dan and Don's insight and willingness to throw ideas out in I think our relationship is such that we can really be frank with each other and talk about number of items and uh uh we're moving our conversations forward uh as Don said right after first of the year we're going to start talking about testing and right after first year becomes March 1st real quick and then it becomes April 1st and it goes very Dar fast so we have to do our leg work on the front end of that as we plan for next year uh office closed um Monday the 23rd Tuesday 24th Wednesday 25th 24th and 5th or holidays 23rd on the uh the superintendent's office staff is um taking time off there and and then uh we'll be open on the 26th and 27th this district office will be uh and Monday the 30th and then 31st first our holidays as well and the high school and M offices will be closed the entire break the staff is taking those that time on you uh let's continue on 9 educational I want to not approve world best for for for for
