subse subsequent public broadcast please rise for the pledge of leas I pledge aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and we have a roll call Kathleen Adam KAIT FR Jamie Aro here Mandy joust here Jennifer N here Charlene molar here John tiger here Jesse vaugh here so tonight to start off our night we have a very special dedication of this multi-purpose room and I believe that Mr Storch is going to to facilitate the dedication okay thank you good evening everybody my name is Matt S I had the pleasure of working with Doug for about 15 years uh before we get started though just a huge thanks to the board of education and our Administration uh proceeding this through uh to R dmer and our custodial staff for getting things in place tonight uh and to Don rardon for his work on the signage that will be displayed and the plaque that we'll be presenting tonight two walking sticks homemade uh bag of dog biscuits bats of slime bars of soap bat bombs a number of painted rocks a handful of a dazzled seashells a bucket of poery and several keychains are all things you might have seen Doug struggling to carry out of this space after he attended a tre's Marketplace because he made it a point to stop at every single kids table to buy something it didn't matter that he already had 12 walking sticks at home from purchasing them in previous TR Market places or that he's never had a dog in all time that I've known him all that mattered to Doug was that those kids were happy in Frankfurt School was a place they loved he would also do that right there on that stage for at least 20 times he perform in the musical whether it be as a hob or analo or none right that curtain went up and Doug was there this space the countless events would be difficult to calculate for the times that he came here to support a band concert a chorus concert basketball game summer enrichment programs student council activities fundraiser events the people students parents staff community members that Doug greed and welcomed here would be even more difficult to C no doubt though with everything that Doug gave to this school sometimes it would come at the sacrifice with his own family take for example there was the time when Doug was instituting a new Behavior program in his class and sticking with that program and following through that program and always making sure never to show favoritism to his own kids he gave his oldest son sea A detention but the thing about that was up to that point the way I understand it is in no time in Doug's career had he ever issued a detention to any kid so the first one he issues he drops on his oldest kid's CH all right Brendan learned a really harsh lesson uh when he participated for the first time in class night and The Pie Contest as a new staff member just how far Doug would go for his kids because I have no doubt that Brandon was approaching that table feeling like all right this is going to be good I'm going to eat that pudding in that pain using only my face I'll bring some of my college skills that I H and I'll just kind of dust everybody up here I'll bust out about it at dinner later tonight but what rather Brandon didn't know was that for dog at that point in no Universe did a Brendon post exist there was was no son Brendon all Doug knew was that there were three individuals up there he was going to destroy because how dare anybody get between him and his students from having a chance to cheer and celebrate as their teacher stepped out from behind that table as the chain which is what happened so uh I think at that point we bring Shan to sixth grade and she probably probably was clocking more hours in at this building than half the sa at that point because while her friends are getting on the bus to go home she's settling it if his dad was going to be here for another hour and a half or 2 hours while meeting with students running an activity supervising a club or meeting with colleagues so Brandon to you and your siblings thank you for sharing your dad with thousands of students as he was clearly more than just their teacher uh Terry as staff members at Frankfurt School by default we become extensions of the post pan so thank you for always welcoming us thank you even more for somehow always finding the patience for when the shenanigans began and let's face it Doug was usually the one starting so thank you for that it would be easy to compile a list of former staff members who left left Frankfurt a better place than when they started here many of them are gathered here tonight but I think we'd be hard pressed to find anyone who did more for their students and this school Community than Doug for 15 years Doug taught third grade then he taught fifth grade through 26 teaching well over 2,000 students across his 41-year career at the end of the 2020 school year Doug retired and with that retirement came the end of a remarkable career and the start of a legacy Doug on behalf of the Board of Education the administration your colleagues and the Frankford fames you welcomed here in recognition of all of your time and dedication from tonight going forward we recognize this space as the Doug poost multi-purpose Ro [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you very much is a very experience for me and I'm I'm honored to se I'm happy to see all these faces out there I appreciate you coming and thank you I don't know what else to say recognize you of course still have a full for agenda here those of you who came out tonight to celebrate D this portion of the meeting is is now going to move to the Pali house yes please you have that power everyone thank you everybody congratulations [Music] [Applause] very much [Music] than have fun of the mountain everyone I'm okay so we are going to move on because we do have a very full agenda tonight so next up we have a vacancy on the board um and we have three candidates that have submitted interest in filling that vacancy Cory Harrington Diana worth and Chris so at this time we ask Cory Harton to step forward with her public uh good evening um my is Cory Harrington um I have been a resident of CES County um since I was 6 years old um a resident of Branchville since 2016 um I have been in education for close to 20 years which is hard to believe um I um currently work at the Green Hill school as their um technology coordinator as well as their technology teacher gr SK 8 um I graduated from High Point Regional High School in 1998 from there I went on to the University of New pen um where I played basketball I uh got a Bachelor's degree in sports management graduated decided that that was not what I was going to pursue um my parents were thrilled um and I then went the alternate route to pursue AER um I also obtained a master's degree in educational technology um a super certification from NJCU um and have been working in education ever since um I think what kind of peak my interest in maybe filling the the vacancy of board um is that all through school um I've always had a positive experience it's always been um afforded me with plenty of opportunity um to succeed to have a a place where I felt like I belong um I went through the SS School District High Point um my kids now are at Frankfurt they are in free pay so they are loving it um they've had nothing but a great experience since they've been here um my youngest is soon to be following so I think that this was kind of an opportunity to possibly give back to helping guys continue to make this place the special place that it is um it really is truly a community that is phenomenal um like I said it's it's you know it's great my kids love it um so to be able to lend my background my experience my knowledge and education um just life experiences um to help you guys you know with whatever you know you guys need um I know there's some great candidates um so I just appreciate the opportunity um thank you for taking the time to let me come an interview um and that's all I got next we have Diana worth Hi how are you tonight uh my name is di W I've been a resident of Sussex County for 51 years uh I've lived in Frankfurt for 31 my children graduated from Frankfurt uh my son has donated money back to Frankfurt that's that's grease in the Palm right there just kidding um currently my granddaughter attends Frankford had some great teachers so far um I am I've been a property manager or as my husband calls it a slum Lord for the past 32 years I have dealt with budgets a lot I have degree in political science in public administration I'm currently going for my MERS in information science at St John's University uh I've dealt with this school for many years I even monitored the technology literacy challenge Grant from many many years ago uh I have a hold list um right now I also work for the Sussex County Municipal lines to prevent drug abuse and that is why we moved to Frankfurt because at that time it was an ideal place to raise your kids we've had a couple bumps in the road this past year uh last year and I can't say how much I am happy to have new Administration in the school uh especially when we had an incident uh my daughter came to school our granddaughter was hurt and we had a meeting with the school and for her to be asked by the administration do you work are you a single mom these things can get you sued up the kazoo out in the real world I'm not saying this isn't the real world but anywhere else these are the questions you cannot address the people and I really am a firm believer in things being fair um so my main reason for coming here and my second slide is not coming up uh is to bring that Hub that the school is the Hub of Frankford back in the day we had 911 we had Katrina the school came together like you never saw I mean 911 everyone came together but we did sock donations filled up fire dud Katrina we did a whole giant donation where the the gym was full and we adopted a school I want to see that again I did make inquiries about the recent hurricanes and I was told go see the PTA okay so I joined the PTA and then this opening became available and I thought hey you know what we really need to utilize the school and we don't have a central Hub like does with Halloween and the pumpkins Frankfurt is widespread we don't have a core except for the school and the school is like the foundation of the whole town and that's why I wanted it's why my granddaughter's here it's why my daughters back here that's why you know it's a really good place to be and I want to make sure it stays that way get a little emotional it's been um like I said I just want see it all pulled together and make it a core again so it's not there isn't any discontent as as I saw last year thank you thank you Chris St he already out was my turn um uh as as most of you probably know my name is Chris texter and uh um asking you consider me for the vacancy on the board of education as looks like most of you probably know I did fill the seat last year and uh enjoyed the time there I thought we did some good things in in some of our decisions in terms of who we hire um I've been in t County my whole life I was one of those few people that or maybe a lot of people that said I'm never coming back here after I graduated from college I said I'm off to anywhere but here and then I found my way back here as Cory said we both went a high point um feel like I've never left there I've been a public school teacher and now administrator for 24 years um like I said I've been in the county my whole life did grw up in Lafayette not frankfur but um know I've been here my whole life uh I'm a family man who values education a strong strong belief in that and I believe frankly it's a phenomenal place I thought that before my kids were here having my kids have experienced it I have Max Sydney and Zach um seventh grade fifth grade and first grade all had a great experience so far so I've been thoroughly impressed with what we've done here um I have a invested state in continuing that and I'm hoping my voice on the board education can help ensure that all parents have a voice in their child's education um as everyone has said we know we have a great Community I'd like to keep keep that going here um former coaching adviser at the high school level um Know What It Takes I know what school is like and know how important it is to have parents involved which is one of the things that I've been contining impressed with sometimes I wonder if anybody works when I come to the events we have here there's every every single parent is here um which I think is an unbelievable part of this community and want to see that keep going um we all aware state New Jersey has endured lots of cuts in The Last 5 Years um High Point's been through a ton Frankford has as well I've had a lot of experience with trying to make a lot um happen with a little so um I'm pretty confident that I can help in that process as well so I'm asking that you consider me and uh you know like like Cory said we have another couple great candidates as well so thank you we'll hold um the interviews in executive sessions so just warning you exective session will probably be about an hour um next up on our agenda we have recognitions and presentations we have students of the marketing period from kindergarten through 8th grade so we have in kindergart and I think that the kindergarten through fourth grade were notified today um and Mr sester will notify um M grade one we have Bowie schnog grade two Liliana Burns grade three Paisley hanshaw and Olivia Wright grade four AA Campbell grade five Zachary Gonzalez grade six Liam Sherer grade seven Victoria Vance and grade eight autum S congratulations to those um we now have staff member of the month who was nominated um recently Cas didn't know we had snow day on um Friday so this lard and I are looking to sit down with um the bus company just to discuss a few things um a little further because it's always my intention to give as much notice as possible to families you know I get it I have kids myself um for child care issues and um I just wasn't happy with the way that all went down so we're going to sit down just to make sure that something like that doesn't happen again so that's the ultimate goal to get on the same page with our Transportation uh comp and then finally looking ahead um Happy Thanksgiving to everybody don't forget we have an early dismissal on Wednesday um we'll be closed Thanksgiving and Friday um upcoming in December on the 3rd we have fifth grade Winter concert on the public comment did you Kate motions to open Kaitlyn seconds anybody have a public comment Mrs eer thank you all for what you do we have a motion to close from Kate and a second from Kaitlyn so next up we have our policy and curriculum presentation by Dr [Applause] okay there we go hi everybody so um we have our uh 12th annual white in service here at Frankford school for October uh 14th we had 1994 outside attendees come to the district we focused um on AI in collaboration with New Jersey City University in the areas of math science Arts language arts social studies work language and special education um Center for prevention Daisy and jimny's house all came here for our health and PE teachers in the afternoon the PE teachers had the tnis association here and they learned to do tennis without tennis Nets because not all schools have tennis courts so that was a fun day watching them fly uh watching them play tennis as I'm looking to Flying for flight because our edtech department has a fantastic flight program um so we hosted some people from different edtech departments around s and Morris County here in the district to learn about implementing a flight for in their buildings um we did some Pia the dyslexia calcula and dis graphia the band directors I think have the most along with the art teachers because they uh play music all day and do art all day but it's nice to see them share some strategies that they can do um throughout the year it's nice to communicate with other band and art directors when there's only one that you in your building so they can learn and then we had some PD in collaborative classroom which is our um new um English language arts program in the Elementary grades um that was the big thing for October um we're also here I know that Mr Sylvester went over the PA program pauses our uh created by our skip team uh over the course of last year we had Adam Holbrook here in September to do time to teach um working on a way to create um a culture and climate that incorporates pause our partnership was marking period 1 and we're into acceptance for marking period 3 worth and support coming marking period two worth and support coming Market periods 3 and four um we were trying to get a uniform prek K3 system managing student Behavior that's where skip um developed this idea last year and we came up with our paaws you'll see them all around the building in all the classrooms um for each marking period we are doing different things I don't know how much I know Dave spent some time on this in October so I won't do too much but I'm going to bring us to this is marking period two which is acceptance and since Dave can't be here congratulations to Mr Sylvester who just had a baby well his wife had a baby boy but he but I'll let let us all enjoy Mr Sylvester here on the screen and our kids talking about what pause [Music] is sensible celebratory empathetic during this period we focus on Acceptance in our pause framework which stands for partnership acceptance worth and support acceptance means understanding and accepting one another's unique qualities even when they differ from our own this Maring period we look forward to a few activities to remind us of our pause mod throughout marking period two we will be hosting the great kindness challenge our teachers and staff will be on the lookout for random acts of kindness being done by our students the teachers and staff will report the random act the student and their grade to their prospective office where each grade will have a Leaderboard on display ideas for these random acts will be provided to each student the grade from the elementary and middle school with the most random acts of kindness at the end of markting Period 2 will receive an ice cream party to celebrate their kindness we will also continue our December door decorting contest during the month of December to be judged on December 20th we will host the Spirit Week the week of December 16th through the 20th to support our great kindness Challenge and during this Spirit we keep your eyes peeled every morning for a special holiday event to support our clause and issue as always we will continue our Frankfurt family Fridays and our students of the marking period the student this marking period will exemplify acceptance as an outstanding student we look forward to this marking period acceptance activities and the inspiration you get from them let's go bul all right and that because I know we have a long meeting ahead of us is all we have any questions anything all right very good thank you very much um tonight we do have the first reading of 3570 the district record um that's a new bill that Governor Murphy signed in um we have a second reading on bathroom assistance and field trips do you have any updates on technology the roof project the sewer project Mr lard uh just for an update on the roof so we have just had our gutters the roof project as was originally planned is about 95% done there's still some work to do on a section where this section of the building and the section on the end of the all meet uh so we're working on some change orders with those project uh changes will happen in the spring most likely once the warm weather comes back I was just looking to get a little bit coverage on this section of the roof because after that is done the only roof that will not have been replaced in the past 10 years will be the lower section around this gym right here uh so we're working on that to be done and hopefully all should be completed by the summer but otherwise roof is good we have and one of my major concerns over the years that the school district is to make sure we are controlling water in we don't have any mold issues and other problems so we've been working hard to really keep the building in as uh top shape as we possibly can with funding that we have available to us uh and this has been covered 40% by state funding so we we want to make sure we're making the most out of those funds um getting back uh to technology which I just wanted to give a little update on there so we do we had replaced our servers and our Network equipment about 8 years ago we're getting to the point where we need to do a major upgrade so right now this kind of rolls into the new budget year as we start planning it in after the new year uh but I'm also looking at ways to be able to finance and handle the replacement of our server equipment as well as of all all of our Network Hardware uh trying to balance out what's available through Federal reate funding um but just kind of giving you a heads up that that will be one of our many topics of discussion when we get on to the budget so as as you know we've been been certainly hit pretty hard with state aid Cuts over the years we're finally at the end of the cuts hopefully our slight enrollment increase will help a little bit um I don't have a lot to promise as far as that goes but certainly there there's a lot of things that we're going to be considering as we do every single year so that's the update with that and let's see the other Finance uh sewer project as the one major item so we haven't been meeting with the town and the burrow to discuss reconnect or connecting to the SE project uh some of you may or may not remember we had this discussion back in the early 2000s it's been a very long ongoing discussion but when the branch Bill connection occurred the Board of Education opted out of it uh there are various different reasons for that um not to really get into those necessarily but we're now looking at trying to redo this get connected to the sewer and hopefully if possible not yet really discuss much but hopefully also connect to the the Branchville water system uh we had a meeting we had two meetings in October one of them was with Klein Felder Engineers who are the original Engineers from the first time that the the initial connection occurred with the initial project so we met with them in October this this past week we received a proposal for doing the feasibility study we were looking at different alternatives for where to place Pump Station which may which would certainly uh handle the schools flow but if if it all works out it would also be built to handle the remainder of the properties in the area that were designated as um for the the water service or the sewer service area so we're looking for that we have a proposal in here to discuss uh we're not necessarily making a full decision tonight but it's going to be uh it has been provided to the board of ed uh to review and sent a copy to the town so one of the keys is trying to figure out how to fund the project um fortunately we can use some of our Capal Reserve I got approval from the county department of education to help use that so we looks like we can we can work something out to get this done but the idea is if this is a project that occurs hopefully it does uh the long-term funding is the major issue for this um it would likely be a referendum but we're hoping to be able to find some sort of there's there's several opportun for Grants and that is going to be the major key on how this gets financed uh but long and short of it is that uh the original project had a pump station that would have been on our upper field that was one of the major issues for the original withdrawal from the program so meeting with this architect or with the engineering company was to More Design This in a way that was more um beneficial for the school to avoid affecting our Playing Fields because we don't have a lot of extra space so if we put a big Pump Station in the middle of the property it really affects our our after school activi so that's one of the key items to be discussed here and then also the new technology anyhow to avoid rambling too much more uh we will have some more meetings um the township and the bur will be meeting a little bit more to discuss this and we're going to have more discussions over the next couple of months so we can hopefully decide I would say I'm hoping that we can have a decision at least for this to move forward with this engineer by the December meeting so that way it all can take place as far as the feasibility is concerned and we can have some real decisions as far as funding is concerned as we go into the budget season any questions for we love budget season almost as good as that's all I have thank you okay and I see here we have a fire drill on November 4th and our lockdown drill on November 13th um um so that brings us to the point of executive session and I will tell everyone um it's a 15minute interview with each of the three candidates and then probably 15 minutes or so of disc discussion for the board to make a decision um so we're looking at an hour I tell you that you know those maybe a little more I don't know um so do I have a motion to enter executive session K C again everyone else jumping all over okay so we're going to walk out here to Executive session get hello okay we're going to um we're back in session so we are going to um just move along so people can go home um so we have the consent agenda and we're going to move to the last part part of the consent agenda where it is 24 well can I have a motion to vote on the consent they all Motion in all second um okay so it's a regular agenda item 20241 one25 d27 and it is to appoint Chris Dexter to fill the vacany on the Frankfurt Board of Education through December 31st 2025 um and we're not going to roll call we're going to do all in favor say I I anybody with a name okay so then that can we motion and second all we did that one that's separate you've been double vered okay then we have the regular consent agenda um so these items are matters of routine business and will be voted on in one motion um be it resolved that the franker Township Board of Education accept the recommendation of the superintendent of school to approve the above identified regular agenda items number 20241 25-3 through 20241 25-26 2 2 um and this will be a roll call vote we're going to do a motion motion take roll call vote on consent agenda motion second Caitlyn fro yes Jesse vond yes John tiger yes Charlene M yes Jennifer Nast yes Jamie Arma yes K Adam yes Mandy just yes so that brings us to the second public comment second got that would anybody like to give a public comment motion perfect we're out of public comment um so now we just have the other items for the good of the order um our next scheduled meeting is December 16th and any board members have your mandated governance training due by December 31st um just a couple things from me I'd like to thank the Branchville Legion for the ,000 donation that was um in the agenda um I also want to wish my fellow board members a very Happy Thanksgiving and all of you sitting out there um and I'm very thankful for these board members because I will tell you that they get a lot of text messages for me they're probably very annoyed by me and I'm thankful for their hard work and their time and their Dedication that they put here everyone has such a thoughtful process in being here and um you guys really make this board um run beautifully one more one more and then today is one month until Christmas and Hanukkah so please go to the craft fair on December 7th the craf and vend Fair hosted by the PTA they always do a lovely job and there's a lot of Christmas and Hanka gifts available Caitlyn has another good oh yeah um just a reminder that the Christmas pre is this Saturday um in town and going to be here at the school and Wednesday at 3:00 they are going to come here to bring porta johns so I just need to just email me and let me know exactly where you want them because my husband will be here to bring PES absolutely K ad yeah um I'm really l so I don't think I need that um there is a seex County School Board Association meeting um Monday December 2 thank you December second at the community college if anyone is interested in going sign there's a dinner College there's also a virtual option yes virtual option starts at 6:45 and I highly recommend I said they're very good you want to the dinner like my last okay anyone else have anything for the good of the order motion to adjourn
