##VIDEO ID:Nrc6To3e7bs## name e e the board met in uh executive session tonight we're now ready to go ahead with the public portion of our meeting I see the band waiting back there and um before we do that uh we have one little bit of business to do um as you know this is our last meeting before our reorganization meeting in January and tonight we are saying goodbye to our dear friend and colleague Dave Campbell who has served for 12 years which also adds up to three superintendents and countless committee meetings he served on and shared the finance Communications and Personnel committees and led last year's successful superintendent search he did not want any fanf fair so um even though the band is here and I he did not want any Fan Fair for his last meeting but we could not let him go without saying a few words of appreciation so David thank you we'll miss you thank you we have a little something for you which our superintendent will bestow is it cookies you got cookies already yeah that's okay Z you don't want to play me out you don't want to something me out you have to pick something appropriate for him thank you thank you very much is it is our pleasure it has been our pleasure I did yeah looks deadly okay and with that um we'll flip the agenda and wait for the president's report uh because we have very important things to do so I will turn it over to you yeah thanks good evening everybody um I'm just going to quickly without Fanfare Echo some of the sentiments president Ginsburg expressed in celebration of Mr Campbell's tenure on the board of ed uh Mr Campbell though our time together has been brief I'm grateful for the guidance and support you show me as I transitioned into the Glen Ridge schools in particular your leadership during the superintendent search process was especially impactful and the deliberate and thoughtful approach you led is what partly inspired me to continue in the rigorous process so on behalf of the entire School Community thank you for your service your options felt thanks in the uh in this season of celebrations I'm excited to share that we have two presentations tonight that I think you'll find impressive first we'll enjoy a performance from the marching band which will put an exclamation mark on the end of their successful season following that we'll keep the Goodwill and spirit going with a presentation on gr rhs's photography program uh to introduce both programs I'm pleased to turn the microphone over to principal Lawler thank you Mr Arlington and good evening members of the Board of Education and our public um tonight's feature is a a visual and Performing Arts Extravaganza so for our audience you get some live entertainment tonight so uh we're so proud of our marching band here tonight um as always they keep bringing home the hardware with their performances um they achieved another group one state championship as well as taking home the bronze at Nationals at MetLife Stadium and um you know as the principal of the high school it is always um is a highlight almost every year being able to go to uh see our band perform there um that you know incredible venue if you think about you know the athletic events the U musicians that have performed in front of those crowds and um the part I enjoy the most are the warm-ups to be honest like seeing you before at the bus and gathered around and going through your routine and acting like teenagers and then uh the drum major will you know essentially just snap her fingers Elanor REI and they fall in line and they look like you know a cross between you know professional musicians and soldiers it's pretty remarkable to see and then they March into the the stadium and go through their performance it's always a you know it's definitely a highlight and if you ever have a chance to go see that um to do that but before I turn over to Dr Gage I just want to give a shout out to our seniors this year as I mentioned Elanor re our drum major our drill sergeants um daffan Wallace and Levi Wolford and also their colleague Grace Bower there's Grace in the back and um tonight they will be performing um some highlights from their routine this year called fug state so I'm G to turn it over now to Dr [Applause] Gage um thank you so much um we are very excited to share um share the hard work of the marching band um with you uh and this is always a Bittersweet moment when we perform for the board because this will be our last time in uniform uh this season and our last time performing the show um as a group um so it's a it's a a bitter sweet uh moment but um it's in celebration of a lot of hard work and achievement um so we're ALS we're also very proud my staff and I proud of um of every single one of these students fortunately some of them couldn't be with us um today but um uh I think you're going to uh enjoy what we've put together for you I did want to acknowledge um another group of five students because um they just performed this past Friday night as members of the Caldwell University honor band which is the official Essex County honor Ensemble it's all of the best um band students in Essex County uh collected together and playing um a big a big concert on a huge stage how many people were in the band this year elanar do you remember no sorry how many total okay it was over a hundred uh over a 100 piece concert band um it's really amazing um and so I wanted to acknowledge these students who earned uh spots amongst students from um from all across Essex County Elanor REI on flute emmaa on clarinet Levi Wolford on trumpet daffne Wallace on trombone and Jude Rothman on euphonium so I just wanted to acknowledge that because that just happened this past weekend and we're so very proud of those five uh members of our concert band who were acknowledged and now I'm going to turn things over to um Elanor who's going to introduce uh the show so this year's show is titled fug state so fug state is a term used in Psychology which refers to a state of like disorientation and confusion but augue is also a term used in music to refer to a Melody that's repeated in different parts so our show this year features uh songs that are in different styles to bring in that sort of confusion but they also repeat a lot which brings in the few parts for [Music] PA [Music] n [Music] [Applause] n [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] la la [Music] [Applause] [Music] a [Music] la [Music] a [Music] oh [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] la la la la la la la la la la [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] la [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank thank you all so much that was wonderful I've often said that we should have you at every meeting thank you Dr Gage and before I turn it over to our visual arts department um I just to extend an apology to my colleague Jack dit I feel like every time we put together a presentation it's uh he has to follow that with the HIV self assessment which is like you know it's like you know like so you see this outstanding performance and you're GNA see these tremendously talented photographers here but my apologies Jack we'll try to work something out next year right um I'm going to introduce Alysa Herrera in a moment she uh started with Glen High School this is her second year and very quickly she has really elevated this program um you know Midway through last year she you know she came into the space and she saw the dark room and her eyes lit up and was like how can we incorporate this back into a regular programing she uh proposed a dark room photography course a semester elective and uh for those on the curriculum committee we're coming full circle right so uh we did the proposal last fall and um and then we incorporated into our program of studies our students enrolled she developed the curriculum over the summer and um the program is really taken off and I was fortunate enough to get in there a couple months ago to see how they were doing and what really struck me is just the the excitement from the students um and something you don't get to see a lot you know when we're in an age of technology and onetoone devices and kids getting their hands into the chemicals and it's all safe and done correctly and um but that really Hands-On a tactile experience with education and um One Thing Really stucks me as one of our students were leaving um just said you know this is my favorite class of the day you know and just to hear that it's uh it was really cool to see so I said I've got to bring them in and hopefully you get to see the tremendous work they're producing in the gallery they created and um tonight I just want to welcome Miss Herrera and her students uh we have aa aa we have Mary Jace Kira and Addison welcome thank you oh this is a clicker yes thank you for having us here tonight um we are super excited to share with you kind of what we do um in the photography Department here but more specifically the dark room um it is a new course this year so we're really excited to share kind of what we're working on right now um and I have my students here with me I have a couple of them from the honors dark room course itself so we have um Jace Mary CLA and Kira are all currently in honors dark room and then we have Addie and Ava are in the ap2d Art and Design course with me all right so I wanted to start just by talking a little bit about kind of the course sequence um from square one all the way up through AP um and kind of how they get to where they get to so um photo one is really a beginner level course we're giving them you know access to DSLR cameras I talk about best practices with the phone um so they take lots of pictures at home and kind of learn how to take better phone pictures um we also talk about manual functions how to edit um I review elements of art and principles of design um we talk about composition and a lot more so I include as much art history as I can in there too um and then from there we go into photo 2 which is a little more like modern and present current day um we get more into commercial photography and kind of you know each project is focused on like a different area um within photography that they could go into um if they were to pursue a career in photography so a little more career Readiness um we do like marketing advertising we create magazine covers we get into food photography uh photojournalism all that fun stuff from there um the honors course is the dark room course uh that is new this year so it is a half year um but I'm giving students kind of the access to the dark room we use black and white dark room process only um and they learn everything from point and shoot cameras 35 millimeter cameras how to manipulate the manual settings um and kind of how all of the chemicals you know the chemical process from Square One um turns into a print a picture at the end um and then that all culminates in the AP 2D art and design course it is a year-long course course um they're submitting to the college board exam in May um and basically they take everything that they learned so far and create a self-guided uh portfolio So it's 15 to 20 artworks um and they get to pick their theme and then kind of woven throughout are these other projects where I introduce other like 2D um art techniques like collage um embroidery Double Exposure all of those fun things all right so we are going to get into kind of what we're doing in the dark room class itself um so I have students here to talk a little bit about what they're learning as well as talk about their current artworks that they have just completed um in this course all right so Kira is going to talk about the steps in the dark room so the first step is taking photographs planning camera settings shutter speed and aperture 35mm vintage film cameras and point and shoots and the Second Step processing the film the black bag process removing film from the camera and putting onto to reals into in the dark B three step three-step timed processing in the dark room to develop film three making the prints chemical safety tongs separate buckets gloves Etc understanding the enlargers contact sheet placing film onto photographic paper to have a mini photo of all pictures test prints graded scale of values from light to dark reflecting 5 to 25 second exposures and final prints and matting so the whole process is kind of like very starting from square one all the way to the end um so this is the first project they're going to talk about it's called a photogram so I'm gonna have Ava talk about hers first hers is on the left hi so for my photogram um my message was to portray the Journey of seeds which is the background that I scattered across the um photogram paper and then there's a plant next to the product that it would turn into which is SRA and uh I exposed the paper after laying down all of my items in that order um to Bright Light for about 5 to 10 seconds that which created this black and white picture and the element of black and white for photograms is like like it comes out better than any other thing else so I will pass this to all right and then Addie's zor is on the right okay so I did the same process as Ava with the developing and Gathering my materials but I just used different materials and the materials I used were thumbtacks flowers and stones and my message here was protecting love where the flower represents heart the thumbtacks represent outside forces and the stones are protection and my composition is radial so with the photogram it's interesting because you don't actually use a camera to make this um so I don't know if any of you guys like remember taking like a dark room class or being in the dark room but this first project just introduces them to like the chemical processes as well as how to use the enlarger without introducing the camera yet um so then this next one we got into was once they got used to the cameras um they did a portrait Series so K this was yours right ohz um so this was our first um project with the point and shoot cameras and we experimented with natural lighting and just to find like The Perfect Exposure and following that we would go into the dark room and practice with all the chemicals to complete the project and then J's project is on the right so here I used a point and shoot camera to photograph my subject sitting on a Ledge and that showed leading lines and um show the focal point all right and then from there we kind of started to look at like what's the next level that you can take it to um so this is Mary Claire's sorry about the baby um this project we also used a point and shoot camera we were inspired by David Hackney's joiner's collage idea and we took multiple different angles of like the Back Field kind of and put them together to create a new perspective all right and then this is kind of where we are right now in the program um they're working on an object Series where they select one object of their choice and then they have to kind of experiment with point of view um zooming in zooming out looking up looking down bird's eye worm's eye all that fun stuff um to kind of get a new perspective of a different object um and this is Jay's so here I'm showcasing four photos for the object series and I went outside and took these photos of a Ford truck right outside the high school and I basically just chose my four best photos of the truck and these are the four all right now we're going to talk about why we love the dark room due to the due to the widespread adoption of digital photog photography very few high schools currently teach dark room photography many schools are strictly digital leaving out a whole piece of photograph photographic history and students education secondly this allows us to get off a screen and really use our hands and Minds to create something new it's a great change of pace and gives us more ways gives us more ways to be creative that we have never tried before while learning about history of The Craft I'm sorry lastly it can use what we learn in the dark room to support our portfolios when we take the um AP photography exam all right so the last thing we wanted to do for you guys tonight is just show you a part of the um darker room process um so the students here have black bag changing bags basically what's inside is every part of the um kind of like film process huh no it's okay um they have uh the film the actual film negatives they have a can opener they have a pair of scissors inside there without looking they have to basically open the film canister cut the end unroll the film put it onto a reel and then take the entire reel and put it inside a lightproof tank um then that tank has like a almost like a funnel opening on top and that's where when they get get into into the dark room that's where they're going to be pouring the chemicals in at different rates um so we have all the times in there we have three different chemicals um the developer which actually makes the picture show up the stop um chemical which stops the process and then the fixer which makes it permanent and protects it from light um so right now we like to do this challenge where they all are going at the same time and they're trying to see who's going to finish first they practice today a little bit you can do [Laughter] it the fun part about this too is like the first time they do this we do it outside of the bag um and we try it with like expired film um and then they'll do it inside the bag hopefully I know I hear it I told them whoever finishes the fastest gets a cookie you can do it you can do it once it's in the tank you could take it out it's kind of funny to be like trying to visualize what's happening inside here okay so that sound that's the sound of the real um kind of going back and forth and it latches onto the little holes on the edge of the film and it kind of trails it along the inside of the Reel yeah Kira is in the lead I'm waiting to see who's going to be the underdog yeah and then you can take it out and if you guys remember doing dark room photography you have to do this every single time we have a new project so for each project I have them use like a whole roll of film um so they've done this now like four times already this year plus the practice times oh you can't open it you could do it probably I know I'm sorry Addie did you give up did you give up okay all right Kira is our winner there you [Applause] go I know you all right and then this is what they have to do inside the real you hold for [Applause] right thank you [Applause] [Music] guys thanks to you all for performing so well under pressure too and it'll s like the bonus you get to see what senior Health's also about so that wasn't even planned so I figured yeah that's like the bonus aspect of the curriculum right y thank you very much everyone for having us yeah thanks so much guys appreciate you uh don't forget sharing your talents with us par yeah wait what about the baby oh she's coming back keys I think keys are there too all right okay I'm gonna move on Mr Lawler already I kind of stole my bad joke about segueing from that to Mr DT's uh presentation so so um I'll just say that in the report that Mr dwit shares uh is about to share you'll see our ongoing efforts to reflect um mindset strategies practices and capacity building uh that we're working towards to continually improve and strengthen our implementation of New Jersey's anti-bullying laws uh so Jack happy to have you share a little bit of data around that work a clicker in a black that's what I was looking for I think it's like a cosmic joke every year I present right after the band so we'll come down a not here um tonight I'm here to present our submission of our school self assessment data one time per year we're required to report this out to the state this is our presentation for the July the 2324 school year so it's all of the data that we have from July 1st of 2023 through June 30th 2024 uh each school is required to evaluate its implementation of the anti-bullying Bill of Rights Act and this again is from last year and this is using the school self assessment tool so each of the buildings along the principal along with their school safety team will gather together they go through they use the online tool to gather their information and they present it the school self assessment tool includes eight core elements that address different areas of the anti-bullying Rights Act the requirements that are uh in place for schools and a rating is assigned for each of the indicators and you'll see those on the following slides and it's based on the criteria and the available documentation that each of them have each school can get a maximum of 78 points once we submit it the state will give us a grade based on that um from previous years to this year there's been really no substanti substantiative revisions to the self assessment there isn't much that has changed from last year to this when the principals sit down with their school safety committee and they go through each of the categories they have to consider a minimum these things they're looking at any data that was submitted if you remember last month I was here I submitted I uh talked about the ssds data the they'll use that they'll also use the data that was presented from the one I think I came in February to present that they'll use any findings from New Jersey qac that might have come up any findings from investigations of complaints or non-compliance and they'll also use any other source of information they may have they might be looking at student attendance staff attendance if there's student conduct referrals things like that if there's any climate or any other surveys any data they have to gather it and the teams will meet together in their building to gather the data once it's completed they submit it I go online and I'm able to gather the information and present it here tonight once it's approved tomorrow I will submit it to the state and then we're all set so there's eight core areas that are here of the eight areas they have anywhere from two to five questions that are under each of the sections the questions are generally three points each and the the principles will look at those questions and they will score how they feel that they did based on the data they have the information that they have their team so rather than go through I'm not going to go through all the questions there are 26 of them in total but I thought I would give you guys some examp examples of what do what are some of them so let's say for core three for example which is other staff instruction and training programs an example of what they're looking for is that each teaching staff member has completed at least two hours of instruction in suicide prevention that included information on HIV in a 5-year professional development period that for example is something we do every year not every once every five years so the schools may have graded themselves let's say a three on that let's say I'm just going to flip to the next slide let's look at question seven it um element seven one of the questions might be the notification of parents to alleged offenders and alleged victims in each reported HIV incident are we doing that is it reviewed things like that and they're using the data that they have to answer those questions area eight for example is HIV reporting an example of a question from that would be do we have a procedure ensuring that all staff member reports verbal and written include the required information for all incidents violence vandalism and HIV that's we use a system called hibster in the past we used a different system it actually is very helpful because it's the same across the district each building has it it's on our website so all the staff has it on top of parents so if we look at the total scores for each each of the schools they have given themselves between 76 and 77 points as they've scored what I did was to kind of look at previous years to see sometimes you look at let's say the high school for example core element 7 has an 11 I wanted to see if that was the same areas that they had scored year to year for example in that their scores were not the same so let's say the four questions that were there they were not always a three some of them were a two so there might be year to year they're finding areas where they're better at there might find areas where they have to work on the other thing that we report out is to ensure that uh we have a pre preliminary determination if that has occurred for hivs preliminary determinations are when an incident or complaint was found and if they look to see if it's outside the scope of the definition of HIV and it did not need to be investigated each of the principles are allowed to then not investigate the incident but they're still required to go through the process they have to report that to the superintendent that has to be documented it's reported back out here and also it's reported to the state so we do have a procedure in place for preliminary determination at all the buildings last year there was four incidents at Glenridge high school that were decided not to be investigated at the other buildings there were none so so next steps this is uh really just another step in what we do um on top of it being required and something we have to put out to the state um we continue to use it when we have our building level discussions when we're having District level discussions when we're looking at um for example any restorative practices any changes that we want to look at for code of conduct or HIV this is one of the pieces that we utilize and that's the end I feel like I need a board members do you have any questions for Dr [Music] dwit so this report is really all quantifiable data that we are required to upload to the state yes yes okay and each of the buildings gather the information so they will have a backup for it that they keep for when they're scoring their own information they'll have that so in case the state wanted to come in and um assess it they would have be able to provide that I think it's hard sometimes to understand because our approach is much broader than what we quantify in this report yes so board members any questions are you sure okay thank you okay thank you okay in closing the next week and a half will likely prove to be busy in our schools with end of the calendar year events ranging from this weekend's production of the drazzi chaperon to upcoming winter concerts across our prek-2 schools look forward to seeing you there and I wish everyone a happy holiday season that concludes my report okay now it's time for the president's report which I will try to make short um a note um on board member meetings uh Boe meetings this is our last meeting before the holiday break our next meeting will be on January 7th when we will wear in our new member Ray D Lorenzi D Lorenzo excuse me and do the board's annual reorganization so board members shortly I will be sending out the committee and liaison form to all of you so that you can send in your choices uh about which committees you want to serve on so be thinking about that uh Ry will also get one along with an explanation of what the Committees actually do so um we'll be able to get a running start in January um yesterday I was a guest of the governor at the signing at the freedom to read act in in Princeton um as you as I mentioned at the last meeting it was uh passed by both houses of the legislature and we've been waiting for the signing um it basically requires school boards and Public Library governing boards to established policies for the curation of Library materials as well as Library material challenges it also protects school and public Librarians performing their jobs in good faith from prosecution for distribution of pornography it is it makes us among the leaders in the nation in terms of State policy on book Banning so um that is the culmination of what started with our um resolution that we all approved uh for the uh County Essex County School boards Association uh concurrently the legislature was pursuing this and this is the outcome so it was a it was a wonderful moment um a note of Hope um I wanted to thank thank all of the people who helped in or participated in the Ashen felter race um the proceeds will go to the Glen Ridge Education Foundation which has provided generous donations as we can see on our agenda tonight um over the span of many years is it 25 or 26 years now Fran 26 I think anyway 30 okay um financing programs and services that we could not have otherwise afforded so thanks to the foundation thanks particularly every year uh at Thanksgiving Fran Wong the chair of the foundation board uh loses sleep and and uh works extremely hard with her core of volunteers to get that race up and running and literally uh so thank you and also thanks to Tara Arnett Elizabeth nycom and everyone from the high school HSA who made last Sunday's Holiday Market a resounding success it was wonderful um uh for those of you who went uh there lots and lots of vendors the Middle School chorus performed that was terrific so thanks to all of them as well and that is the president's report and I should say um we have not had any public correspondence since our last meeting on November 19th so now um it is time for public comments on agenda items only um I believe that our audience knows the protocols uh any public comment okay I'm Fran Wong and I am chairperson of the uh Board of Trustees of the Glen Ridge Educational Foundation and since there is uh an approval of uh exp a donation on the agenda I'll take this opportunity although I did enjoy um reflecting back on my 10 years as a marching band parent and um four of those as uh the president and then also the babies because after my children children went through the program they didn't have these there was an egg that was a big failure I remember that yes then there was and I may have these backwards a bag of sugar was the baby and the bag of flour was the baby all of which split and were all over the place so when Maria deina who was the health uh education teacher at the time came to the foundation and said we want to get these robot babies that will cry and you know we don't have to use food anymore for this it was a easy sale easy sell and I will say that I believe it is the only project we have ever funded that actually hit the national stage on NPR I remember that when um one of their producers ran into one of the girls at at the uh grow Pharmacy and engaged in conversation about what is this and uh so it was there was an episode on This American Life I think about that she decided after the experience that she never wanted children um but perhaps she changed her minds but um at any rate what I wanted to say h is related to the um the race Ashen felter and Tom Fleming races and is the source of a great majority of our our funding in most years um on Thanksgiving morning prepar ations for the 25th annivers Ashen felter 8K and the Tom Fleming 2K began well Before Dawn the Glen Ridge Educational Foundation has been a growing partner in these races since 2007 we're and we're excited to continue next year with the new race director that we have hired we have worked with her for over a decade in race registration and timing and are thrilled to have her take on this expanded role of the more that 200 volunteers we need most are high school students and we simply couldn't manage without them members of The Girls Club begin their shifts two days before the race and work through sh Thanksgiving morning arriving at 6:55 a.m. to be ready when the doors open at 7 every year we're impressed by how well they handle the eager race eager Racers especially when sorting out bibs and shirts often in different sizes originally ordered uh no one seems to know how big they are or how small they are the girls manage these situations with ease and only a small number of issues require higher level intervention we are pleased that the C customer facing positions the girls F provide them with the opportunity to develop skills many of them will otherwise not experience the Sportsman's league and the athletes doing good club have always been invaluable both in race setup and in managing crowds in the at the finish line but this year their performance was nothing short of outstanding despite the chilly temperatures and rain throughout the race they worked TIR tirelessly even when so soaked through eventually some of them were able to come back inside for their next tasks and to warm up but when I asked some of them to go back out they did so without complaint or hesitation the trustees of the foundation some of whom were also drenched want to congratulate and thank the parents of these impressive impressive young people we also want to acknowledge the support of culture within the glund public schools which continues to Foster such remarkable young people thank you thank you FR and next next meeting January I guess uh I'll give Duval a bag of shirts we have a lot left because not everybody was as tough didn't come out we have leftovers you can all have one if you like oh thank or two maybe even three thanks so much Fran and thank you for all that you do pleasure okay seeing as there are no other public comments unless we have some ghosts in the audience we'll go on with our agenda um it is the only meeting of the month so if we can do brief committee and Lea on reports starting with our student representative Meg hi the student council is organizing a spirit week next week and the winter ridger day is next Friday as Mr Arlington already mentioned the drama club is putting on a production of The Drowsy chaperon this weekend on Friday and Saturday the athletic seasons for our winter sports teams have started hockey is off to a great start with two big wins the girls basketball team has their first game this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. home versus Montclair and we're looking to put a year on the banner for the third year in a row so should be exciting and the boys team has their first game next Tuesday at West Orange swim had their first meet tonight and wrestling has their first meet on Saturday lastly as many of you saw over there the senior health classes have been sending home the baby project where students are responsible for a robot baby for 48 hours and this will continue into the new year thank you also I would love to add that I've volunteered for the Ashen felter for three years now and it's always my favorite event to work so thank you Maggie and thank you for volunteering Darius perfect um uh so to keep it brief the last meeting for the central hman school was right now um it actually started at uh 7:30 p.m. today um just jumping forward uh the Winter concert for Central is um is scheduled for Wednesday um December 18th at 1 p.m. um and then uh today uh thanks to the um thanks to the home and school the students got to participate in a Lego snapology program um creating um creating uh uh uh uh a steam projects and uh the next meeting of the central hman school is January 30th at 7:30 p.m. okay thank you heather oh I have nothing to report okay Anthony nothing to report it's going to be a really brief rund down here David I have nothing to report okay josn I bet you have something to report only that the negotiations committee will be um kicking off our negotiations with G next week on the 17th and we're currently setting ground rules and and communicating back and forth as as we kind of establish a good foundation okay the diversity Association only meets quarterly so I don't have a report tonight uh moving on Dual oh yes the um Forest Avenue Home in school has not met this month they'll meet January 14th and um currently hosting a mitten drive and their holiday uh Winter concert will be also on the 19th um and that is it okay tra I think pretty much everything was covered for the Glen Ridge High middle school high school um between all parties uh the next meeting is Jan 3rd Friday in January okay thank you and I know uh I have lots to report a good report take up so much time um I'll be very quick uh so the Glenridge Visual Arts Association sent an email they were at the Holiday Market they had a great um experience there but they are also um soliciting uh for parents to get more involved with the organization they're also asking for donations for newer new like new items like art supplies art related items that um the students in their Club can use there is um uh an email address that people can reach out to grva a.info gmail.com if you have any questions about making a donation on beh on behalf of the gas lamp um they continue to sing the Praises of our administrators and our custodians for all that we do to support that organization um they are really um growing the dynamic between the musical the music and the theater department heads and the directors at Gas Lamp they um coordinated a performance at the tree lighting event this past Sunday that was really wonderful um they are working with Dr Gage on the gaset mainstage Productions of The Sound of Music um last year year um looking forward to the spring they're doing um The Little Mermaid gas St kids is doing The Little Mermaid in April and then they have a gas lamp teens show in the works um they're still working on timing for a High School drama musical sometime in the late spring um but that's all to come um lynon I gave a really detailed report last time so I'll only note that their Discovery registration is still open through this Friday they have their winter cont next Wednesday which is always fun and they're running a minted fundraiser which is that card you know thing that you can do online where the um you can get a 20% discount and 15% of your order will go back to the Homeland school um but the bulk of um what I wanted to share is that I attended the uh the NJ sba's delegate assembly this past Saturday um they have an in-person and a virtual option I attended virtually I couldn't make the trip down but it was my first time attending the assembly it was fascinating I learned a lot um I have two uh two summary documents that I can send and share rather than go through everything here but um I just wanted to say just a quick few highlights I got to see Dr Pell in action I thought he was really Dynamic and um I liked um I really like his energy and his style he had a great like holiday suit on it was really he always wears something that is just outrageous yeah he he looked really really great um he did a quick uh walk through of some of the new um bills that the um that the Department of Education and the uh New Jersey um State Legislature have been taking up they did note that um there are a lot of bills that they're still advocating and watching closely um and that there's so because there's so many in the works they are starting to roll out a a new quarterly newsletter called the njsba capital watch that's going to start hitting um our inboxes in early 2025 so it's just all the um all the bills that they've been tracking it's just an easier way for us to for for them to help us keep an eye on things that are in the works um he noted that January is School Board recognition month so I'm really excited for our celebration um in January and then um the delegate um assembly took up uh a total of seven resolutions that ran the gamut of um of um giving school districts the option to publicize uh School notices in digital format um right now they're required to to post in print um but with the um dissolution of a lot of print uh newspapers like The Star Ledger and the expense of that advertising they're working to give districts um the option to promote um their messaging through the digital format if they choose to do so um they took up other things like um allowing student um excuse student attendance to um for for students who wanted to participate in activities related to military enlistment which um the the um thinking behind that is that it's it's it's a um really uh important um secondary route towards or for post um for post High School employment and it's just this just gives kids a um a way to explore that without being penalized by the attendance office and there was a number of other things that I can um that I can share but those are just like some of the highlights that that stood out to me okay if you would circulate your summaries that would be very helpful and for those of you who don't know Dr Tim Pernell is the executive director of the school boards Association he's a former superintendent and yes he has the most amazing collection of bright colored suits thank you okay moving on with our agenda you have in your packets a minute set of minutes from November 19th exec yeah um for the B13 B3 London Avenue homeing School B13 and b14 how did we resolve the issue from the parent from last month's uh Boe meeting yes so we again invited them to meet again for second time and they all came and we went through and presented um all the parameters of the grant again and we presented the rules that we're restricted to as far as um going out to bid and using a co-op Etc and then we presented them a uh quite a few choices of equipment and we all agreed they they came up with three additional suggestions of equipment which we ended up agreeing on those and just hoping that we could get the price down cuz we were over budget um and we got the final price and it was $16,000 more than we had so the district I have $10,000 left over from another project that came in lower that we're able to contribute and they came up with another 6,000 so we could get the project completely done all the equipment the three pieces that are there are coming out and three new pieces will be going in plus the whole um all the mulch will be removed the there's railro ties there that all need to be replaced so everything's getting taken out and um we're putting in all new Mulch and three pieces of equipment and that should be the last day of school day after the last day of school we're doing that and the the parents as well as the HSA are all in agreement as to how the money is to be spent yes that yes we met with the playground committee which is basically mostly the officers of the committe and they've been in contact with the parents and the the one final thing that's not done
