States of America and to the Republic which stands Nation indice thank you adequate notice of meeting in accordance with PL 1975 chapter 231 notice of tonight's meeting was mailed to the record and the Ridgewood news on January 9th 2024 notice of this meeting was also mailed to the borrow Clerk and was posted on the bulleting board of the Board of Education Office in the administration building on the same date are you able to read course course the glenar school district founded on principles of education in partnership with the supportive Community provides an exceptional education to all students to cultivate resilient responsible and engage Global Citizens thank you very much um so good evening everyone uh we have some uh athletic um recognition so I'm going to ask our acting athletic director Mr Paul kusac if he would come up and Podium is yours Mr good evening um Paul Cusack acting athletic director just like to talk a little bit about our spring season for athletics um we had seven League titles from all of our teams this year all of our teams had winning records we had athletes recognized at the league the county and the state level and one athlete actually compete at the Nationals for track and field so we had a very successful season overall um we did have three teams that receive the Bergen County coaches association team of the year so I'm going to do is just talk a little bit about each of those teams um and call up any athletes who are here from those teams uh to give them some recognition so our first team was our uh boys tennis team our boys tennis team went into the season as three-time defending State sectional Champions um there is there anyone from the tennis team most of the baseball players okay uh coach Zimmerman was unable to attend but the boys tennis team went into the season as a three-time defending State sectional Champions um team went in and had another successful season this year with an overall record of 19 and three in addition to League champions the team won their fourth state sectional title in a row which is very difficult to do uh so our seniors on that team have won the state sectional title all four years that they were in high school which is a great accomplishment every player arrived at the start of the Season ready to play highquality tennis the team's goal was to win the sectional title and with the combination of returning players from last year plus the addition of great talent moving up uh coach Zimmerman knew that good things would happen the team was prepared determined and focused to see it through they accomplished their goal and as a result they were awarded the burg County team of the year so um the members of the team are Michael Whitmer Simon bobber Ben Lapin uh Marco dky Andrew Eisenberg Ben horn aru Daria Felix deuk Jacob grinberg and Leo yashim Moto moving on our boy Bo lacrosse team was also recognized as Bergen County Team of the Year uh Coach Joe Vado was unable to make it this evening but um he did send me some things to say um I'm honored to recognize the 2024 Glenrock High School boys lacrosse team throughout the 2024 season they were able to go beyond expectations and clinch another Jacobson division championship this marks the third time in the past Four Seasons that they have been able to achieve this feat dominating the competition the boys secured significant victories over League opponents such as tenly Ramsey pasak Valley and Wayne Valley in the past four years the group has only lost a total of four League games this year's group recently received an even bigger honor was Nam the 2024 excuse me Bergen County team of the year it is truly a tremendous honor given the competitive nature of Lacrosse and Bergen County the boys finished the season with an overall record of 12-8 with historic wins over teams like Northern Highlands and Scotch Plains Fanwood what makes the team remarkable is their success despite being a group one school with a total of 20 Varsity players they have consistently outp outperformed significantly larger programs and demonstrated outstanding teamwork and resilience to compete with teams double the size puts a lot of pressure on our boys and they are truly deserving of this honor the leadership of the seniors Parker dup EMT white and Jake papis has been pivotable and support from parents fans and our school administration has has been inval invaluable congratulations to the 2024 Glenrock boys High School lacrosse team uh the members of the team are Parker D EMT White Michael uh Flack avento Cooper consoli will Corey Brennan scosi Jake papis Jake burner Tyler bosen William rovitz Alex Knight Ryan lockran Kieran olik George Dy Joshua Kim Matt McCarthy Ronan Dunn Bruno Loki uh sorry Bruno laosi John ATI Eric baru Joe Silva Matthew Gray Liam Rickett Mason Weiss Frederick blat Matt Walsh Michael tulman Ronin hurricane and Lead wolf and our third team that received um Bergen County team of the year was our boys baseball team uh coach spary was not able to be here tonight but coach crush is going to say a couple of words about the [Applause] boys hi everybody uh again I've been called in as the relief pitcher again but but that's okay cuz I'm involved with a great program um our boys are back there we got a good turnout today um first of all you know they talk about spring Sports in Glenrock you got to talk about all the sports in Glenrock you walk around with Glenrock and you are very very noticed and we are a unit of measurement from Soup To Nuts we might not win a lot of championships but when we walk around we have respect from everybody out there that's academically and sportswise okay so I'm very very proud I've been coaching football here uh let's just say when Jimmy had hair that's how long I've been here and um you know it's a real honor and privilege to be with us with this program and I and I love these guys and I love the parents and remember you know it doesn't take just a coach it takes a community to build the program so whatever you're doing keep doing it I live in Hawthorne I'm on the other side of the tracks and they are very very jealous of us they really are they love beating us but that's okay um as far as the team goes incredible year uh great run rotten ending it's not where you start it's where you finish we lost in the county to St Joe's unfortunately three nothing and they went on to win it and uh the counties and then we uh lost to pasak Valley in the states in the quarters or semis voice help me up quarters and they went on to win the whole thing so we lost it its two champs which I'm very very proud of I I'm a sore loser I was rooting for both of them to lose but on the other hand now we lost to the to the Champs and Pompton actually won the group one and we've beaten them four times in two years and we've 10r run them twice so we don't really respect them so um coach spit does an incredible job we're back-to-back Champs he also got coach of the year and that's not by accident and again it's a community as Matt Theo said it's all of us coach right Matt okay he said that it's just not one guy here we just don't have one guy everybody has their role everybody has their place and I was wondering what kind of um a a uh Team we were going to have and it was maturity it was leadership it was camaraderie and unselfishness and that's one of the reasons why we did so well uh just a couple of things senior stand up these guys are going to be very successful there's not too many guarantees in this world I guarantee you these guys will be successful Matt with the blue short the shortest one there he's going to the sales College he's going to play with his brother he is the you ready for this the leading hitter in the state he had the most hits in New Jersey this year and that was 50 actually 52 cuz he played the All-Star Game and got two more he's going at the sales Wolfie is going to Tennessee and he actually got his name in the paper today for a 2.33 ER Ethan who is a drummer I want you to know something we have a very unique group here too he is a drummer he's going to Vermont I don't even know what he's majoring I can't say they're Majors uh g g is going to forom and that's a new thing right now and he's going to well he was going to go to New Haven right Harford sorry now he's going to afford him Olly is going to emry college what are you going to major in please tell me no I forget you okay I just hope that one day when I'm on the table and he's got the scalpel I'm just just remember I treated you right and our diamond is going to cuse which is Syracuse what are you majoring in analytics okay so these are our leaders and I definitely I guarantee they will be successful here's another unique thing too one two and three are in a band and our other guy Danny is not here and they just did an article on you guys we have our own Beatles here they're pretty darn good so I'm very very proud of these guys here um our other guys over there that's our youth right there Ryan stand up this is luren I can tell him a part it took me three years Casey stand up okay big Pete stand up Pete actually was fifth in the state in home runs and he was actually tie for fourth with RB um um Nick was also an all County standup he's uh was 8 and one this year he just came back from a showcase down south red stand up now red and Pete are twins don't ask me okay but he's a tremendous second baseman hopefully he'll be a next level player we have a new kid on the team the blonde will you please stand up oh that's Wyatt I'm sorry Wyatt just got back from a tournament in baseball played three games he's on the soccer team he's going to be the next you I'm guaranteeing that's the guy right there that's who you want to emulate right there Veno please stand up this guy here in my opinion was our most valuable person he didn't want to catch no I don't want to catch I'm not going to catch and probably the third day I think it was a conspiracy they broke our catcher's hand we asked him to go behind the plate and he caught the whole year for us and he did an incredible job so it's not about you know they say in sports sports builds character my friend would also expose his character and you know what you're top notch man I'm telling you right now you really got it's a unit of measurement Ben our best dressed baseball player he always looks good see everybody's got their shirt out he's got it tucked in just make us look all tenant stand up he's our catcher that broke his hand this year so he'll be back next year and Vino's going thank God I hope he's going to be helping so again we had a tremendous Year back to back I'm hoping that we do it again next year and um anything so guys you certificates probably they're all messed up so find whose certificate you got there's probably a pro another 20 guys that are not here if you also want to find out about the articles of these guys here [Music] good right [Applause] so there's one more award um recipient that I'd like to talk about uh coach Kyle mccort I know you're back there if you could come up here please um coach McCord is our girls lacrosse coach he's in his six season coaching the team um team had a great season they were 18 and four which is the best record in school history for the program they were the Freedom Red Division Champions um team had a great season they had multiple big overtime wins uh 1211 vers Morris NES and 1110 vers Saddle River day giving them big wins throughout the season um I know that they repeated as League champions correct um and the team then went on to the state tournament where they in their first three games outscored their opponents 45 to1 also posting a shut out um coach has done an excellent job of building this program up over the last six years so that the girls were able to for the first time this year compete in the state sectionals in our in the history of the program girls had a great game against uh Powerhouse Mountain Lakes Unfortunately they didn't win but they composed themselves they played with you know pride and they did an excellent job this season as coach Crush was saying there's a lot that goes into this and as a result uh coach mccort was recognized as the Bergen County lacrosse coach of the year for women lacrosse so round of applause for Coach thank you um yeah I'll try to be sure I just want to you know thank everyone for inviting me here you know it feels honored to serve this community um it's a very special place to me uh want to thank the team uh they worked really hard this year and also for the future as well as well as assistant coaches and then last but not least I want to thank my family um you know I do believe it's important to me so um you know they've had my support throughout the years that I've had here and hopefully even more from years and now so once again thank you very [Applause] much e all right we're getting the screen he's okay working on right now all right so next on our agenda is uh the njpa results um presentation by Mr benest yeah so this is going to be a really quick presentation um it'll come up behind me in a second but the uh NJ GPA is the graduation test that the state has been doing for three years now the first one um they didn't count towards graduation but starting last year they did and real quickly it's it's designed to measure um graduation proficiency assessment is is what it is it sounds like it is it's English language arts and math um nothing's really changed as far as the regulations and such um they take the test in uh I'm sorry it's administrated to all 11th graders it's based on grade 10 standards it's is kind of where it is the uh reporting of this has to be done within 6 days of us receiving the scores we receive them our next meeting is just after the 60s so I wanted to get it in today to make sure that we are pleasing everybody um one of the things we have to report on is participation rates all of our kids took it 100% participation rate which we've done I think the last three years uh you can see the uh data here as far as uh graduation ready is what they call it if they if you're um making the mark there and not yet graduation ready so you can see it's 2.9% % um in ela are are not graduation ready and 8.1 um for our district for the state it's it's much higher we have historically um the last year or so the the handful of people that do not test as ready are still graduating they made it through other criteria that the state has set forth so uh it's it's not a worry of ours at this point and it's a solid number the other thing I I do want to point out is the uh past few years of data you can see that first year was um it was the new test it was a new everything it was 2122 was a crazy year uh 73% 7 almost 74 were uh graduation ready in English that's now up to 97% so that gives us that 2.9 in mathematics you can see it's it's going up each year bringing it close to that 100% again here we have it oops did not Advance we have it broken down by the subgroups that we need to report on the subgroup report sample size has to be I think it's 15 students um so if it's below that we we're not allowed to share that data um there's a little bit of a gap there with Ela um to the students with IEPs um all the rest are are fairly tight you can see there's a little bit more of a gap with the math scores and so that's one of the things that we're we're looking at um as far as math achievement um I was looking at it today um on the njsla scores for example um one of the real areas that we're focusing in on are the students with IP youve heard me talk about multiple Tis of system of support this is what what we're addressing part of what we're addressing through that work some takeaways from this English we seeded the state by 16 almost 17% for students who are considered graduation ready um an increase of 23% since the first test in 2122 in math we've exceeded the state by 37% uh an increase in the number of graduation students each year since 2122 and then I did point out that there's a gap there with that subgroup students with iips but we are we are closing the Gap since last year so it's getting a bit narrower so we're we're definitely on the right track here some intervention strategies things that we're continuing to work on you've heard me talk a lot about this over the time um continuing to work to support our co- teing initiative um at all levels with uh a lot more support within the classroom less Reliance on resource room and and pulling students into to more restrictive environments uh we're continuing our professional development especially for the high school teachers looking at co- teing looking at bringing an experts bringing in workshops for math especially and language arts as well and we're continuing youve you've heard me talk multiple times about aligning the courses to State Standards including related disciplines so you know we have restructured the middle school and high school math sequence we bu new textbooks you've been approving those things along those lines to really align them to the standards make sure that we're we're really hitting those well we've realigned the middle school and high school social studies course sequence I know this test doesn't test social studies but these are related things the reading the informational text that they're doing in social studies is definitely coordinated with what we're doing in in language arts standards and then the same thing with the um claim evidence reason framework in science to support students literacy and writing skills that this isn't just a single Department we're looking at so again I told you it' be a really brief presentation it's a state requirement that we we report these out and you have the report thank you Mr venis all right if there no comments and questions then we will move on to our public um agenda items um it is 7:25 we can open up the uh first set of public comments for agenda items only um when you approach please state your name and your address and then we'll have three minutes all right seeing no members of the public 7:25 we'll close our first set of uh public comments and proceed to G items can I have a motion to discuss G1 G1 through G37 all right Miss car seconded by Mr Hayward any comments or questions regarding our G items for this evening Miss scarel uh yes for G2 can you just elaborate what that report is for it's the language instruction educational program threee plan yeah the report is in backup for your review and also I I talked about it last time this is a three-year uh plan that we have to submit every year to the state about how we are addressing the needs of multilanguage Learners thank you I I wasn't at the last meeeting so I appre explanation yes M um I'll be abstaining on G3 I just want to uh thank everybody for working this out um and uh coming to a resolution without any problems but I will be abstaining on it okay noted baring no other uh questions or comments um if we can call roll Miss calz yes M car yes accept as noted Mr Cory uh yes abstaining G3 Mr Hayward yes Miss garelli yes Miss Stevenson yes Ms randelle yes Miss Robinson yes yes motions pass thank you can I have a motion to discuss items B1 through B16 Mr Corey seconded by Mr Hayward um any questions or comments regarding B1 through B16 yes Miss car can um Dr charlson briefly explain B7 through b11 I know there's I I don't know if those are part of the projects the capital reserve projects B7 I see valves B7 sorry can you just briefly explain B7 through B1 we would appreciate if we can get questions ahead of time so we can prepare for answers um the board had the agenda since Friday afternoon we're just getting questions at the meeting um generally the board asks questions sends us questions the night before regardless regarding B7 B8 B9 B10 and B1 those are all related to the esip all right Miss garell and and uh is B12 is related to to that as well it's the US Omni and but what is that related to I don't did that come up I wasn't at the last meeting and I watched it I just didn't hear if that was discussed B12 the third party administrator for the district's 43b so those are the retirement plans okay for employees and you have to have a third party administer administrator I just like to clarify that if I wasn't a trustee and I was standing at the board that I would have questioned that so for you to say that to me I is unacceptable whether I asked for it here or not or in an email okay sure it also as we shared many times it's courteous to give the superintendent business administrator and assistant superintendent heads up on questions that trustees asked prior to the meeting we've asked for that several times and we would appreciate that going forward questions from trustees should come at least from uh them by well I never had any questions before because we used to have the weekly email which was very helpful but we don't get that anymore so going forward if we I would say that if we expect an answer on the night of the agenda unless it's something I don't know more like commonly known then it's helpful to ask the question or to know that you're not necessarily going to get the exact answer right in the moment of of that's fair yeah so I think that's part of the I've never once in the 20 years that I've been coming to a meeting expected an answer I've expected someone to say I have it or I will can get back to you okay all right bar no other questions or comments regarding the B items if we could please have a roll call Miss Miss Calis yes Miss Carr yes Mr Corey yes Mr Hayward yes Miss garelli yes Miss Stevenson yes Miss Randell yes Dr Robinson yes motion passes thank you can I have a motion to discuss P1 through p49 our Personnel items p50 P1 through p50 Miss carpelli seconded by Mr Hayward again all right as a reminder for p50 yes the resolution will say be it resolved that the board upon recommendation the chief School administrator accepts with regret the resignation of the following staff member for retirement reasons in accordance with the provisions of the gr Boe G renegotiated agreement that's for Miss Deborah BL brma special education teacher of the high school and the effective date of retirement will be June 30th 2024 that's p50 thank you are there any questions on items P1 through p50 oh just a comment yes I I just wanted to thank Mr caneles for um P40 41 and 45 and coming up with those guides I think that's going to be really helpful for the business office as well as Miss cubby going forward so thank you for for putting that together thank you if we're able to call roll Miss calz yes Miss clar abstain Mr Cory yes Mr Hayward yes Miss garelli yes Miss Stevenson yes M randelle yes Dr Robinson yes motion passes okay and I just want to confirm that you're abstaining from the entire Personnel okay all right all right um now moving on to our hip resolution um I need a motion to affirm the decision made in the grms Hib 267 518 and grms Hib 26739 as reported by the chief School administrator during the June uh 10th closed work session all right yeah to affirm yeah so now we do roll call or Jo all right I have a motion on the table by sorry M randelle and I need a second Mr Hayward all right and can we please call roll Miss calz abstain Miss Carr yes Mr Corey yes Mr Hayward yes Miss garelli I'll be abstaining since I wasn't at the June 10th meeting Miss Stevenson yes M Rendell yes Dr Robinson yes motion passes thank you um below you'll find our vandalism suspension and hi reports and then we have a second set of public comments on all items we can open up the public comments as 7:35 p.m. all right if you could please state your name and your address and then you'll oh I can you um push the button it once it turns green then we'll be able to hear you Sian rashu 85 Midwood Road okay I have three kids uh in the school system two in elementary and one in the Middle School um Glenrock was a very proud in the school in our schools but in recent years our school focus have shifted and we are facing a lot of issues nobody's speaking about I would like to start with communication and and ret and retain ration of Staff communication when was the last time the bo the bo the board had a survey with our student parents and asked what our us as parents would like to see in our schools um I was told that once there was a Saturday that um parents were could have addressed the board and um what happened to those meetings and are those meetings are going to come back um the same for teachers when was the last time the board has held a survey with the teachers asking them what changes they would like to see in the classrooms um also when changes require taxpayers investment does the board ask the studies to prove the EIC efficacy of these new programs and when is the academic push Glenrock is known for retention our individual AIDS used to be hired by the school district for financial reasons the board decided to hire AIDS through the company since we moved to this company how many AIDS positions have been unfulfilled every day how many substitute teachers positions are being unfulfilled causing more stress on Elementary School teachers what is the board doing to fix this and how is it going to be fixed before the new school year is starting I would actually would love if anyone can actually answer those questions I can give you my email at the end our teachers are living an alarming rate some retired some found better opportunities in other District going back teachers always been in the middle salary um wise in the district for towns with the same property tax but now we are in a lower part our economy changed supply and demand has changed and with that salaries when was the last time that the minimum wage of teachers were updated in our town for my understanding we are hiring new teachers in at a higher paying level but have less experience what message are we sending to the teachers that we already have and what does that mean for us financially moving forward with these high paid teachers with long careers ahead of them I am not looking to raise our taxes we are paying enough I am asking to to invest money in our teachers and programs to service and benefits all the children in our in our town um we're all raising our children differently but all kids in our school should have the same experience when they're being supported and challenged equally and that should be within our budget as it is all right thank you you're welcome and I would ask um also that if you are asking for a direct response if you could send a follow email I can do both thank you all right baring any other public comments All right we can close public comments at 7:38 p.m. anything for old business anything for a new business I'd like to um also bring up like our our board retreat and our like our goals Retreat our goal session um if we could talk about just a couple dates or options now that you guys think based on you know your summer vacation schedule knowing that we would like to have them done before the first um the August meeting the way that I see it is um I think I I would like to be much more intentional about um our our board goals for this year and to make them you know very specific and for us to understand or spend a little bit more time understanding what our goals are when we sit down and make our our um goals for the year um I don't know do you have what are your thoughts and does anyone have any uh dates that they're thinking about we have done it before where we can do it um like before the meeting and and sit down or we can do it on like a completely separate day and just discuss goals and necessarily have a that time pressure of doing it before the meeting um and and and have a broader discussion so I would prefer it be a separate day I think that was very rushed to have it right before the meeting so I know people all have different vacation schedules and that's the tricky part um but I think if we can make it work on a separate day I think that would be the best way to proceed and then when we get to that first meeting we can have have a rough draft of where we're headed my I i' actually agree yes can I just for time sake instead of trying to find a date right now can you just throw us out some dates and we'll do it I I'll how about I send it I'll even send it through like through email like or give a link for like voting like we can maybe put all like a doodle or something like that and then we could see I think that'll be technology a little easier okay all right so are we in favor of having having I guess maybe just a straw poll same you know same day or separate day so separate day all right agreed we're all in favor all right so you'll see an email coming from me this week with just a kind of General can we also say weekday or weekend is there a preference or a a weekday night weekday night okay sounds good all right can I have a motion to um adjourn the public meeting or regular public meeting Miss Cal seconded by Mr Hayward okay we are adjourned at 7:41 all those in favor say I any opposed none thank you e
