All we've noticed those meeting pursuing to the Oakland public Meetings Act has been giving by the Superintendent of Schools in the following matter. Well, January 10th 2024, Notice of this meeting was posted on the interior of the school administration offices. 95 Grocery had written notice was submitted and follow the Haddonfield Borough Court and notices were email to the Courier-post and the retrospect newspaper. Okay. We are going. We know many commendations today. So we're gonna start right off with Emily and our student representatives report. So right now we're in Spirit Week and and officially started on Monday. Um, and it's been going really smoothly so far. We've had some fun dress up days. We have the dollar drop going on this week so that's last until Friday. Um, we also have had Green team on Tuesday to promote like environmental consciousness and then we also had powder puff and then the Spirit Week dance on Friday and then next week, we have Golden Bowl, Golden Bulldog, Calendar hunt, hallways, and then our pep rally on Wednesday. and then, we were also having talks with Ms. Michael about creating like a seat, a senior orientation next year to help students with their common app and our college applications and their essays throughout the year. And then on Psat day instead of having senior have, Like essay workshops instead of those to help seniors, get ready. Um, and then we have our summer work committee that we've been working on and we're gonna talk about when the new board of Ed Reps for 2025. We're gonna include them on that when they start January and then teachers have their training over November break, and it was a nice break for the students as well and a lot of college applications got in for early action. But I love that change of focusing, More on prep. Where did that come from? So, that's what are you. So, First market here ends Halloween. Which means you have the spirit the fright night dance. You have all. it's a crazy time of year and now growing always decision to do no matter first so that last two weeks of October is hell abilities. It's actively crazy. You speak about life stronger version that so the idea was the freshmen orientation If we get, Senior orientation with the kids hear about what's going to be, what's expect the next month coming up? Because it is crazy. And as to surgery the first real high stakes, have regarding life, right? Is there's no high stakes, that would get them easier. It depend a little easier. It's never easy. Trust me, but give them a talk. a little bit more planning, so better breathing and all that stuff that came between from me with seniors and from juniors to talk about what that look like because I'm with that calendar, like maybe the movie the first market here to another time. maybe that wasn't practical. So you got your answer was It's going to be where it's gonna be. That's find a way to make it. Or make it better for kids. It's a that. Yeah, I even volunteered to be one of the Editors for the day, working with kids. Oh yeah. that's yeah. So experience Spear because also serving the Christmas creepy. It's earlier every year three days now, you starting in July, it's like every year, it gets bigger. Yeah, but very exciting. I love that. I love that. you really were putting into practice talking to the people who are impacted by something and seeing how our systems, in fact, impact men And then really coming up with a solution. So thank you for being part of part of that requires having students who are engaged. So we really appreciate that. Thank you to our other four traps for being engaged because that's really the the system works. Thank you. And it's scary. So we know. Yes, if you have fun playing going on and understand, Thank you, great job. So we don't have our magicals here. Just go on to the board committee reports and that's all they get it. so, nice to be curriculum yet? No, our next video's December 4th. Um, finance finance from that earlier this week. There's just stormwater drink issue. If you look at the field to the back left, which we're gonna go out to get bids on, trying to fix that becomes There's a sinkhole there before it comes the bigger problem, so more to follow in that but we're trying to get that fixed as soon as possible. Finance Committee has been approached by. Comes about adding a JV, cheerleading squad and like everything else we have to Weigh the budget Terry issues we'd love to say yes to everything, but we can't. So we're asked a couple more questions of left. in the folks who want to start the cheerleading JD cheerleading and we'll you know, revisit it again at a later date. He actually gave us answers earlier today's Australia Day and financial communities more awesome. one of the things we spent a lot about over the years of upgrading the bathrooms and a lot of the different buildings within the district we're going to At this stage, we think, you know, we've done a good job. We want to go back and audit to see how all the bathrooms. Look what the bathrooms need and you know, to see what else we need to do or might need to do in the future to keep those. And clean and usable. And, you know, all the privacy things up and all that into that nature. the board, the board of Ed has in front of the Board of Edo office. There's a sidewalk that's disrepair. It's difficult to go. get past expecially for your wheelchair or Definitely, not Ada compliant, but we're going to look to correct that. Probably will require taking out some of those trees. We're gonna replant the trees probably in the spring. After we get everything fixed, but we're gonna be looking to fix that that sidewalk. That replay the trees that we need to take down in order to fix the sidewalks. Mike. The, the meeting went through the, the RFP schedule every three years or five years, we have the Rps for certain Services. We provide, we agreed on. I need to shared with us. What? What the upcoming RFPs will be? That was. That was better questions. I'm out. I wanted for the the sinkhole or do we have that wrote off like fashion tape or something? It's good. Okay. It's still a place down safe. Okay. All right. Do, do you want to go right to medical side? Okay. there's a few weeks ago. Wonderful magical theoretical. Should they go into? can't really? Yeah. We can't see how we're here. Okay, Yeah. Okay. Come on, I'm coming. This little Yeah. All right, questions. Yes. Another besties, okay. Hi everyone. As we're setting up. I'm Tyler Mills the world record here at Haddonfield High School. These are the magical students. We have been working tirelessly for our upcoming season as we hit into Post Thanksgiving. We will have, I think four different luncheons across the county. We will have some dessert dinner. holiday party type of caroling events. And then of course our three show Dessert Theater performance at Grace Church, which is sold but maybe you get away with, if you like what you hear, we're gonna do a non-holly piece. This is how it looks an arrangements by Eric, no. Ethan at Sperry, he is the director of the Portland. Choir, the Portland State Choir. We've come to love this. This is probably yeah, they're coming. This is a longer piece. It's like three or four minutes long. Really stunning shows off these voices very well. So, We're going to come see. Yeah, I'm Well, I heard there was a secret court that David played and it pleased the Lord but you don't really care for music. Do you? It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall major live in Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Your face was strong, but you need it proof. You saw her. he tied you to our kitchen chair, She broke your throne and she cut your hair. And from There, she them all, and You say I do. Are. well, maybe there's a God above but all I ever learned from love was how you should at someone who are you. And it's not a crime, can hear? It's not somebody who seen the life. It's a cold and So broken, hearted. That's right. Less than 4. Every year. To give them a lot of excited a few so much. All right. Now I'm all appeals and I'm here. All right. November 4th. The policies that we reviewed were really a lot of we on the school, accountants legal services, contracts, with independent, consultants and collective bargaining. Um and my joined us to answer any questions that we had really things were pretty much a change our discussion with that, which is kind of reviewing. What was there we did spend a good amount of time discussing policy. 3283 on electronic communications between teaching staff members and students and actually had lefty join us for the discussion to look at things from the perspective of athletics and coaches. And really, with a lot of our discussion talking about, both what our current practices and then what are some things in the policy to change to kind of meet with the technology of where things are now some of like the outdated language but we also had a really good discussion on looking at the ways that staff and teachers communicate with students and sometimes we need that kind of instant communication to go out and sometimes it is to a smaller group. So we I think the way we kind of post our discussion was we actually want to get broader feedback from the admins and HCA representatives to see what is the extent of how is it being used and that when we do kind of update the policy to make sure that that gets disseminated broadly anyone that may have contact and communication and there's anything else that I'm missing. Anyone else. All right. And then the last policy that we discussed was policy D120 on the assignment of students. And that really we went over just looking at some changes based on the overall enrollment and class sizes and school assignments. and that's and the key there is, we had a situation last year where we open season first grade, this kindergarten and so in May people were pulling from fully private, okay? And taking kindergarten seats in ours and jumping along, so they're fit the weight of this day enrolling kindergarten they want the first because they were all greatest, we've closed out. so, when on the registration date, closes of February 1st, we will then have the lottery. And say and then the child pulls in it comes into kindergartners, say you become the kind of, but you see the first praise me, that's going to kindergarten, that's cool. So we're hoping to solve that problem back. Yes. Yes. Any questions. All right. Thank you. Anything. we have Q&A tonight, we're just having we've been seeing going to coffee's and local organizations as many people want to hear about, what's happening with the referendum and ask questions. So I think many of us have been at those smaller gatherings and good questions we're getting good questions and happy to have people thinking about this and getting those those answers out there and we are updating the website for the frequently asked questions, so common questions that we're seeing asked we're putting up on the website So there also good information for us to have. So If you haven't looked at the frequently asked questions, and best facts recently, make a point to do that because some information is up there. Now that wasn't up there two days ago. I think it was new stuff even just added today. And I think that the important thing is just to try and over these next couple of weeks, make sure that communication is unified. We're directing questions. If people are asking questions because some of it was happening, whisper down the lane. Oh, can you get this question answered? I'll go to the board and that comes back a different way. So if all of the questions can be directed toward the website, where those questions are. If anyone was asking you those questions certainly, if you have that answers, get it to them. But if you don't, let's have it all come through that one place. So that we know what those questions are and that we can get them posted on the website for other people that might have that same question and we also want to make sure that our answers are always Completely thorough and right. And so they're often not answered by one person. We're all like double checking each other. We'll reach out to Raja to make sure that we're answering them as thoroughly as Possible. Okay. Um, any PTA updates? All right. Onto the bond referendum, question and answer. We're going to follow the same. The same format that we use in our regular public comments. So you'll come to the podium state your name, the name of your street. And then you can ask your question, unlike our usual, public comments. Um, this time will be an opportunity limit it to issues about the referendum and, and we will do our best to answer you. We ask that you take only three minutes for your question. If you have another question, you can then come back after after other people. I've had a chance to go. Three minutes. what the back and forth, you know, maybe ask, you know, I know. that's, What happens? And just, you know, that we have Ron Schmicky Jeff Potter or two architects who were here because some of these questions will be They'll be more able to answer them then I will. okay, you may Even call everyone 311 Lincoln. um, With regard to the athletic complex. How far out do you plan? You do your foreigners are capital expenditure budgets? How far out do you plan and this will lead into my next question. you're not sure when you, when you put together your budget, You know, certain Port. Ion of your budget is for capital expense. Correct. If we have the capital. Yeah. Right. So what I want to know is what will be the fit out The true fit out course. Bill of if you, if the bottom left it's past. what will be the true fit out cost of the athletic center? Well, you have latex in there or you have other kind of equipment there, you know, it's one thing to say, it'll cost me a million dollars have changed but no cost. Oh, significantly more, you know, the the cost that we have budget and referendum comes with everything bleachers, all over furniture, you know, of course. Yes. Okay, my question has been answering, thank you. I actually would like to answer another question in there. Yes, there is a misconception. I think that a lot of people are looking at that, 11 million dollars and saying 11 million dollars for the gym. And it's not, it is for the Hopkins. Parcel. So it's for everything. that's being done on that parcel. So it's the parking lot, it's the parking lot up here, that completely reconfigured. That's next, the Wallworth Hall. It is that we thought we've got historic buildings that need to be need. Be refurbished. It's for that. It is for lighting and and everything that is associated with the turf field that we're going to be putting in. So there's many pieces to it, it is. All right, it's for the stadium right now, the stadium doesn't have accessibility is to put accessibility into the stadium. So I'm really glad you ask that because a lot of people are looking at that 11 million dollars and say 11 million dollars for the gym. It's not it's for all of the projects that are on that parcel I have that misconception but yeah. don't have to stand up anymore. But you Um, when we go through this much to my surprise, because some of us, this is the first time we've done this, but it's been out to your process, we literally talked about feeling tiles and like corridors and like flooring to be redone like down to the minutiae of, of what. So, all of that is accounted for in this project. So, but that's a really good question, because I think it's something that people don't realize and let me know dollars that's in 2024. Correct. Oh no, there's escalation. That's increased included in there. That's an escalation. Yeah, thank you. Yeah. All Right, Tim Fitzpatrick, 20 East Park Avenue. I just wanted to express support for the bond. I voted today by mail. and voted in support of it. And one question. And you mentioned, you got into the minutiae and some of the details for these planning. I don't know if there's anything in the bond to address the rear stairs that Go up the outside of the building into the auditorium, the drama club students. Use those stairs on a daily basis during plays and if there's nothing in that bond referendum to deal with those stairs and that door, I encourage you all to take a trip up those stairs because they're pretty, they're pretty terrible. So, take a look. Thank you. Yeah, maybe we can That exactly answer the question. it's not specifically identified but I too have traveled those stairs so much every time I'm thankful when I get into the building. so, obviously, as things bid out and budgets can realization, absolutely We want to try to see if we started following the scope of them. Yes, we have enough money built into the auditory renovation through. because one of the things is we can only do what's in the referendum. Yeah. And if we have extra money, we can't do something else, right? But that way the question we've written never fall within the scope of Baltimore. Exactly. Hi Maureen, Iles, 425 East Summit Avenue. I also wanted to say that I'm very much in support of the referendum that I want to thank you for all of your work on it. I'm part of an organization called Haddonfield Cares, which is a grassroots citizen organization for the accessibility. renovation and expansion of our schools and through tomorrow. We will be completing distributing 175 Vote. Yes. Long signs in town and we've also been working to coordinate, some public Q&A sessions for undecided or confused voters. And we keep hearing over and over again that voters are very confused by vote. No long signs that are out online and properties that relates to Woodmont and proposed Woodmont development at Bancroft and so I just since I'm going to pose this as a question, I'd like to ask the Board of Education for your opinion on the best way for us to communicate that the Bancroft and would not proposals are not included in this referendum. Yeah, I mean that's it. That's a great question. We did we send out something yesterday. Through the district that beat. So the Woodmont project is not anything related to the district project. That is the burrow and we're very, we're separate and governing entities. So, our efforts are focused on the school. And so this this bond has is independent of whatever happens at Woodmont. As far as messaging goes, we send out the message that sharing our message as well as sending your your own. I've seen some of yourself and it's very good. I think they just messaging that um and like anything. um communicating with people one-on-one have helps a lot um like question earlier sometimes we don't Hear what's going on in the community as quickly as we'd like and so as soon as you hear something like that, just just telling people, I think that makes makes a big difference when worlds in those smaller group settings, were very much trying to get that message out as well. So you know, blasting from the the district but trying to have those individual meetings because, you know, last night, we had maybe a dozen people. So if those dozen people understand then anybody that that asks them, then they understand as well. But obviously the more that we can get that message out the better because there is a lot of confusion people don't understand that they can't vote no for Woodmont. That's there's not even a vote there and that boat has nothing to do with the non-vote has nothing to do. Read them. So thank you for bringing that to everyone's attention. Yeah. And on that the malin ballot that came out is the bottom of random. It's just, it's worded. I mean, I'm sure you read it, it's worded in a what? Not, not like it's it's right, we promise. I just read it and you're like I don't know that you would really be sure that what you're you know so just it's hard, it's hard. and something in two with that just also clarify that with, within the bottom referendum, just I know we've talked about a million times, but that while the numbers of a potential Bancroft would not property are not fully in, with the referendum, but that we have flex space, right? All the schools and things that planning for growth for the future. So, it's not just that this referendum is like we can only max out and we're only building for the amount of students that we need, right now that there are spaces in there built in for Flex, use for the future. If we need to grow even more attention growth. Yeah, but it's not connected. Yeah, because I think that's all. So some of the confusion too that I've been hearing and seeing of like, well wait, why would we, you know, if there's potential for all this, why would we even have this bond referendum vote? Shouldn't we wait and see how many more is coming and it's that no, actually we built that into the reference. It is and it's a good point too. That school districts don't really have much choice but to, in a sense, be reactive. Because we don't get, we don't, you know, just like you know, schools don't have we're like we were saying we're separate governing entities. so we respond, but we don't necessarily like we can't buy law Start building up huge schools. When when Yeah, there's like medical right days. So what we do is we build that in forward. Yeah, so we're counting for possible growth and and that's really, and it's a fiscally responsible way to do it. So that we do have have room to grow. Good evening. Keith Mullins 100 Block of West Revenue. Spoke before at the high school, reiterate? What I said last time thank you very much for being done to get us to this point. Strongly support the referendum. My question. I think it might be a simple one, but maybe it's a little more complicated. in the unfortunate event that it does not pass. How long would it take to Repackage and do another bond referendum and get it out to vote? Oh, you haven't asked that question? Yes. Ronnie. jeff, the first thing we have to do we have to go back and get feedback and figure out. Why didn't pass right? So we have to spend, we'd spend a good amount of time saying What, what didn't we see that the public's? All how we see differently than the voters? So, that would take, I mean, we didn't take our time to do that thoughtfully, that would be just be wasting time now. So that would take some time, and then to Depending on how much we changed, right? So I guess if we decided we're not gonna do anything at Elizabeth Hadden. And everything will stay the same. It just be a matter of resubmitting. What we've already done. I can't see that that's possibility. I would imagine. we'd go back and touch it, and we do everything probably another Year. Establishing the scope. And then, you know, six months of the UE processes. probably good year. So I probably should have the ability so The need is today, right? Right. So it doesn't pass. We're looking at least an 18, maybe 24 month away and things that we needed years ago. That's saving. Right? Yeah. And I would imagine, I would imagine that and this is I'm a former English teacher by trade. That 18 months from now the same exact bond referendum would not cost. 46.7 and a year and a half. Now, I need 52 or 53 right here. These staff. So you'd be paying more for we if we came back to the same price, 18 months from now, we'd be getting much less. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. Jack O'Malley for 11 elm. That's my actual house. So if you guys want to throw exit, where I live. But I just wanted to comment and thank the Board of Education for all your due diligence. The changes and updates. Your suggesting are long overdue. and I can tell you from personal experience, and I've spoken before this board before I was person at the spearheaded A referendum movement in, I don't talk to you guys. Just Never Mind 2013. very tight and that was over the whole Bancroft property. but we're kind of in the same. Position now it's not the Bancroft property, but it's the usage of our facilities. and I can tell you, I, I take a lot of pride and telling people where I'm from And I'm not from Philadelphia or South Jersey, I'm from half. I think this is. The greatest town in the world. I think, the reason it is is because of the things we do. For our fellow townspeople and our children. I think the things that we have in this referendum, I can't talk to you people behind you, but it's all of our jobs to talk to your neighbors and get the word out. Because the reality of it is the stuff that's being done. is going to need to be done one way or another and a lot of different happenstances. Some of them are basic maintenance, and some are just to keep Pace with the world. We live in. so, I worked long and hard. 11 years ago. And I'm not going to quit now. So, I implore you. To. Talk to your neighbors support this referendum. Make yourselves proud that you live. again, what I think is the greatest town in the world, That's it. Any other? out, we really appreciate it again, Like just like we were we were talking here with Emily. It's, it's the dialogue and the conversation that started years ago that brought us to this point now, and they continued Engagement is really how we come up with a product that is meets, everybody's needs. So we're really appreciate your your following us through the ad because so many of you were here from day one and it's been a really, really long road. So we're really grateful for all of your, your support and your engagement and you're weighing in and your critiques. And your, you know, Your ideas. So thank you. Okay. Um, Dr. Priola. Do you have anything? All right. The anticipated a lot with this being longer. So we all know. Mr. Klaus. Oh yeah, I have a quick one quick. One worth the celebrate. This greater detail later. You guys newsroom will report that are ranking of 47,573 elementary schools. In New Jersey. send Central School was ranked number 24 in New Jersey had never fifty six. Contained number 70, all at the top, three percent of elements schools. I'll come up all the time until a whole precision will bring them in. and acknowledge that. But scores Central School is 98.3 had 95.7. Tatum 94.1 it's based on on achievement those things. But I mean, I, I started looking to use next slicing, I find another school, suggest three of them in that top, right, all three of the night. So I'm gonna look into that That's a wonderful thing and I think remember last year Central School is actually part of study by Rutgers about how they teach some other republic. I got another email earlier today. I haven't had a chance to even do it but another group wants to take a look at what's happening in Central School, because the results are getting your outstanding. So I'm very proud of you. know, their parent, teacher conferences like this one. Right. Um, okay. And All right. Mine, I don't really have anything either. I just wanted to remind everyone to votes. Go vote. Don't forget December 10th. And also um, make chain text chains. We're telling people just reminding people to vote. Um, and everybody gets busy. So, if you make text chains, remind your friends be a nag, the day before they are now, because now it's around You can do it now. Yeah. You um, So, um, that's really, really my and I want to actually thank all of the people who have been a part of this and who have been hosting events and helping to get the word out sharing our messages working on our message Hadfield cares has been helpful, you know spreading information. So thank you. Okay, um, now we're on the public comments so I'm not I'm saying rules apply. Oh, okay. I didn't know that was. Okay, governance. Acceptance of the monthly HIV Vandalism Violence Report. Approval of 25-26 academic calendars. Approval of school bus, emergency drill, report, and approval of policy. 5120 assignment of students. For first reading motion. Meg and Linda. Questions. A couple calendar questions. I'm a November 21st in the elementary schools, that's the start of the conferences, it's marked as a teacher day and a half day because the teacher here teachers are awesome. Okay, so the third day of date. So tonight the teacher accomplished tonight, yeah? Tomorrow there's no students yes. And it teaches you, Okay, perfect. I just want to make sure that's what you wanted to be because I really and then I have to give them all three schools. So I really only for a few more months. um, May 25th is Memorial Day, but in all the calendars, in the dates in the middle column you have it listed as May 27, okay? So you just But otherwise it looks good. That's really good. And we're gonna miss you when you're gone. And you counters. Probably know. That was very good. Any question about the school assignment policy to make sure that I am reading it correctly. So, If you are a five-year-old student, who intends to attend the following year for first grade but not for not for kindergarten But you've register prior to February 1st in the kindergarten year. Do you get priority under the policy as it's written? Now, Yes, thank you. Okay, Mike, I actually I I'm gonna be a pain in the neck So even though it was uncontested congrats to help as I was reading through the, The agenda, um I it was a time for me to kind of reconcile as a board member, You know what, why am I reading this? This agenda, one of my doing one of my supposed to be looking for. I don't want the schools, so there's certain things in here. I have no curb you over. So what should I be Looking at the mike, they'll kill me. I am gonna be like a pain in the neck about this, but when I look at the the, the overnight and the field trips Right? I don't get to say, um, you know, whether they should go in this place or this place, I think, as a board member, I'm just supposed to be looking at this and say, Is this appropriate? Does this fit our mission? And then does this fiscally make sense? And I will tell you that, I continue to look at these things And I don't, some of them say that it's student parent, funded with some of them don't. Um, and I mean, I, I should know because some of these things, my kids have have done this And this is so much like the ten dollars per student for the German holiday. I think that the kids pay that, um, and does per student mean that they pay it or that we pay it and I wonder if there's just some I know that like right now, it says transportation students here and fund it. Is there a way to for us to just consistently be able to know that in every single instance is who's paying for it to have a column? Maybe, well, I mean it's nice if we did at the column, but it's it's a, it says cost the trip and and it says, You know, some of them say student parent funded, um, but you're right. It's it doesn't have all day. So you just student parent class Yeah, remember the review of the answers in that column is just what we have to think about those. Look because, yeah, it's called dark for kid. Who's paying for? Yeah. Yes, that's what we're here. Yes. And if there's just can some consistency just so that, I frankly, so that we have a sense like, sometimes these are things, it's it's student activity. This comes out of the student activity fund. It's good for us to know that, because then, when parents say, Um, you know, why? Why do I pay Xmla dollars every year or you know, for student activities. What does that cover? We have a better sense of this is paid for a student activities. This is paid for by the parents. This is paid for by the PTA and I know that you have it in there for some of these, but it really was a moment for me to think, think about what should a board member be looking at when they're looking at an agenda. So, That's a really good point. We did it, we didn't vote on governance yet. so I just don't forget to do that. Yeah. Oh, that's actually I'm sorry Don't forget. About it. But yeah.
