##VIDEO ID:kT7tg9788wg## [Music] okay uh good morning everybody I'd like to welcome everybody to the COA board meeting um today is October 22nd October 22nd um and the meeting is called to order at 932 9:32 9:32 call to order okay um do we have a flag here to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance there we go let's all stand for the pledge please I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God invisible with liberty and justice for all hi Del good good morning good [Music] morning darling I'll be um taking the minutes we don't um have anybody on the board that um wants to take the minutes so I'll take the minutes for now and um we'll go through um the agenda okay we have it from the last time too um I sent out a new agenda that should be dated and I just gave it to you mhm um so you have the current agenda yep okay so I did send everybody the or printed off for everybody the meeting minutes for August 20th 2024 could I have a motion please to accept those minutes I make a motion we accept the minutes from August from uh yeah August 20th is that the one we need yeah yes I 2024 okay all those in favor I I all post okay great um approval of the September minutes um and I suppose we don't have a September minutes because we didn't have a quorum we are a board of um just three now so the Quorum would be two and um oh I was outet but you guys were here we did we did you did have a meeting okay so those are being worked on I'll do them I'll do them but I'll to okay find the time to do that so I'll do yeah I cuz I jot it notes down when we talked last time inviting with the dog we'll talk about that later can you tell okay so um Dalene will um we'll have the meeting minutes from September 10th right um at the next meeting yes thank you okay okay um daring could you give us an update on the van driver position uh yes we did have an an applicant um local um and he came in last week we interviewed him and we're hoping that um he'd accept the position um so we have to to do the letter um the offer letter and go from that point um and he would actually complement the other two drivers so that we will have like a full full staff yeah full staff so how many is that so bit three because one retired right totally retired so now we're still at the three we'd like to have another extra one but uh we'll see what happens but uh yep so hopefully we when do you anticipate that going out the letter the offer letter well we we just interviewed him and we did the're in the process of the Corey background check right now so once that's completed and which should be today then um we' get that letter out to him to see if it okay so within the week you think okay awesome and he was a seasoned uh person as well uh he's been in the industry for almost 30 years in in the quiny system so um and we would just do the marap certification and you know go through the process of what we would require um but yeah he he's very seasoned uh very personable for the seniors so we're hoping that he accepts awesome now does that van driver require a CDL license or no he does have one he has one he has a CDL but that required it's not required that's a bonus right it's a right that's right um but he's a marap certified uh consumer or U applicant yep and he's been hired at at what rate do you remember uh yeah yes we are going to start it we have those new rates now you know I think it was like 19 something okay but is it a step one or yeah step one step one okay yep grade two step one grade two step one okay awesome okay uh ramp access to the COA what we were what from what I understand on the ramp access to the COA is that um they were working on they had to redo your section at the library and then they were going to come over to do our section and um hopefully weather that the parking lot or the ramp what are they doing to the ramp there's nothing well the ramp itself being the the the one that's there currently is going to be the the temporary ramp is going to be there for now because they are going to be working on that whole piece that whole section from where we have the um from the handicap parking right back the r to the front door yeah so the ramp to the front door itself is uh going to be blocked so they're going to be working on that section there hopefully oh I see before it gets too cold that's the thing though we don't know for sure too cold and are they they expanding the parking lot or they're just going to they're going to oh what are they putting like the hot top down where there's now gravel yes and then they're going to they've got curb pile of curb sitting over there so on the back of that parking lot they'll put a curb where there's none there now with the gravel so they're going to do that curb then they'll scrape down that gravel it's there then they'll black top that and I think they're going to black top that street too and then they're going to Black Top the parking area behind the seway Yeah so basically they have ADA Compliant uh funding to do this so that was it works out really well we yeah yeah so up to code with Ada correct yep yep so um we're hoping they can get this completed it was supposed to start 2 weeks ago but because of the situation that they still have to go back to the school in the library area to fix or up just whatever change whatever had to go on over there I think what happened there was they it it looks to me and and it's all a bit you know um much but it it looks to me like the the all the 8 packing spots have to be reigned cuz we have van access parking lot that's about this big and then there's a a parking spot way to the left that's about this big yeah so I think that was a mistake with the with the lining um and Scott's just waiting for them to come back and and uh and fix that that's that's my understanding mhm yeah because they moved that whole parking a lot closer to the building so that was good right there was a question to that was asked um I don't know anything about it because I wasn't I was before I got here but there was funding or something from the state that actually was supposed to be able to make that that area where we have the parking lot now for people park with handicapped parking it was only a small section but $50,000 was allocated to the senior center back prior to 2021 so I don't know if that was uh they were asking um actually one of the Senators uh one States the senator was asking about that funding and how come it wasn't really done you know cuz that little section didn't cost $50,000 my understanding was they ran out of funding for it that was all they had the funding for yeah and they said it was that little section so maybe this whole thing will get fixed yeah cuz it's really it's I can't speak to that 50,000 I don't really know so neither could I okay we don't know kind yes like all this all all I know is that parking lot needs to be I just want to go on the record I usually don't lose $50,000 but I was like why don't happen to like I don't know like I I was on the SE okay um so uh resource update um so we have the resource room now and it's been um really it looks really good we um desp did they do the floors not yet okay there's in a it's on the agenda but but the thing was is that we're already in the process um Bridgewater was wonderful to actually when we started the whole um the whole um classes or age wve uh resource um or the age wve um um program program but it was way Social Club pH was coming so the Agway Social Club the whole issue there was that we wanted to start here and then have it both places at the same time but we couldn't because of the fact the room was still being uh worked on um so with that said they we had it over in Bridgewater and then transitioned over to us and the floor wasn't ready so be it so let's move forward and we couldn't have carpeting there's a lot of different things we did try to look at but because of the fact you couldn't Slide the chairs easily you know and it just wasn't um a really good thing to have um so it is still on the agenda to have the floors done in that resource room and it's been a great room for a lot of different things it's cleaned up it has a lot of it's organized we have have you just should come over and see it y i Sor the other day it's really it's it's it come outs to be a little cutie area and it's um the partici did you get any furniture for the room or that was all funded mhm to the age wve age wve social club yep that's um so this hybrid programming and all the technology there um all the materials that we've have is all funded for this Grant and so um and it's worked out really well because actually um the COA in Bridgewater has a bigger uh space and you know it's just a little bit more cozy con environment we have so it's it's turned out okay you know um and uh so we have classes on Mondays and Wednesdays there from 9 to 2 awesome and um it was the most beautiful thing to see everyone the participants there and um I saw you say it was really great yeah they do they seem happy they do I love it they come out a couple of times while we're there and they're very pleasant we all say hi to them they all say hi back some of them joke a little bit yeah um it's it's a beautiful thing it really is it's keeping that it's keeping the individuals engaged and it's um you know there's something to say about when there's um changes in people's lives and things of that nature and uh we want to make sure that we respect that and um and that program has uh done a wonderful age wve social club has done a wonderful uh um thing for um not only just the caregivers but for the individuals so and they're very they're very appreciative and it keeps them engaged it keeps them a part of the the council and aging but it also keeps them a part to be with you know other individuals which they need to and how many do you have going um here we can only have four four and that's capacity you have four correct y wow yeah so it's there's a need out there and is it two men and two women or or or uh yes yes to many tell playing Matchmaker me and then spring is coming and we have we have an assistant here for Halifax um Dawn and she's been outstanding she comes with a a huge background in um that you know cognitive care and so four participants and one I um an assistant to oversee the uh AG wve group as well as an intern and we have a social work a social worker as well yep so the intern is a social working student um and so we have um in fact Anna came the other day to meet us she's from um uh another actually she's from another um Town actually she came an hour and a half ride to visit with us she's the social worker that's overseeing the students right and the social worker clinical um so the the interns are coming in both here at Bridgewater excuse me in Halifax as well as Bridgewater so we both have yeah so it's a really big staff plus then we uh just brought on because it's a hybrid program the hybrid programming part is the tester part so um they are able to watch what's happening over in Bridgewater uh yoga classes um painting classes and then participate in that by way of the um the TV which is here and then they can converse back and forth they the students could see one another uh we use a a a teleconferencing uh device called the owl um to be able to scan the room over there so that it sees every aspect of the participants there um and uh yeah so it keeps them engaged in electronic way so it's a testing thing and it's so far so good the um voice part of it is a little bit we could have it a little bit better but I think it's just because it's the owl and that technology so as we go forward it is a pilot program it is a program that we're testing out to weed out some of the things that can be improved upon it but other than that it's going very well and that room has been ideal it's even though it's small it's been perfect because they feel comfortable and it's their own environment little spot nice color yeah and once that floor is completed I think then I think we'll have it we have the refrigerator then we have a a a record player is it a new refrigerator like a regular SI just a little tiny yeah little tiny one just to stores little stuff in there for them they have a lunch um that's catered um and then breakfast breakfast and lunch um so and they look forward to just conversing with one another um and also participating in all the the music and um the activities are crazy you know there wonderful and and they go once a month now to um to an outside you know venue whether it be a museum or a park or something so it's worked out really good so far um let's see volunteers so we one last question on the age wve so if uh somebody comes into library and asks a question about do you accept new participants or like what would I tell them just to come and talk to you so we have brochures that have been made up right Jo right Fred we have the cuz Fred was our you know uh a great was nice enough to allow us to put him on the the brochure um but anyway um so we can send over some brochures but it would be a vetted process so in other words we would actually provide them with the information whomever you feel like would want additional information they can contact Michelle um who is the manager and that's on that information's on the brochure yep yes and so they would contact her she would talk with them and then they would explain what they're looking for and to whom they're looking for um to come out and do an assessment yeah if you could get some of those brochures over to the library but again we're we're at a Max we're at a Max right now so right right but I don't want to say that to somebody I'll just hand him a brochure if you just bring me one I can print off some the building no we we have plenty so we'll get to the yeah yeah so we want to use those um volunteers so the volunteers we have we could use some volunteers to be working within um uh we could uh sorry uh um volunteers to actually um come in and work with the front um you know the kiosk area um it's on it's on silent um except for it buzzes uh so that buzz U we could use that um we do have the volunteers for the um newsletters so pretty much um I mean as we grow into our building hopefully soon um in the next couple years it will'll be it'll go it'll go by quick um so we're hoping that we want to expand that to be more helpful in internally um we did um bring on two more um meals and wheels volunteers which is awesome they're very very um we're very thankful for that so um we're full capacity for that as you know right now um so we we ask anyone that's interested in coming in to volunteer be uh and that's in your newsletter right you you put that in the newsletter yeah we we um oh my goodness what was it uh we we were all putting it in there um every month actually but then we were trying to squeeze everything into one little section of because we only have so many U pages so we try to mix it up a little bit y so um uh that's pretty much on that one newsletter questions um I didn't know what we do right now is we have a newsletters the newsletters do go out to anyone that um is asked to be on the the newsletter we do have the two uh we use Excel spreadsheet to print everything off for the um labels and so on we'd like to kind of meld them together we which we were using before was that any when you actually go into our database called my senior center we were actually clicking off to decide to to Define who is going to get this newsletter and then we could actually then print off from there but um it's sometimes people don't tell us that some they don't want it anymore or they may have moved so sometimes things were going out and it was a lot of information that would we you know cost us money if it if it's returned so we changed it up a little bit just so to to control the cost of of the newsletter and the executive office of Elder Affairs does sponsor us for this newsletter too so you know the um the town uh you know for the postage it's it's running about 176 a month for postage so do you have any idea who's getting a newsletter both electronically and we're using money for stamps and are those being returned so then you go in and kind of get those P people off the list yeah not what we do right now is we leave that link open to anyone that wants to in other words give that person the opportunity to sign on and access LPI and access um the newsletter that way uh we've actually what we did do that changed because we were trying to cram a lot of stuff into and we couldn't um do that with the pages that we had we we could always expand but we'd have to have more sponsors and it cost more money so we try to make sure that we could cram everything in so what we were doing is the inserts you know like the uh calendars and stuff like that now we figured you know what it wasn't working because then sometimes it would hit the LPI news see cu the LPI is they they have an advertisements there you know sponsors we can't actually then put that onto our website some coas I went and looked at some of the coas they did do that so in other words they had their sponsors in their newsletter but they had it linked to LPI so indirectly they weren't actually selling so you know what I mean like the advertisements were out there but it wasn't going through a municipal site so um and that was a good thing um but I wanted to set it up that way so that when a consumer does go on or resident of Halifax does go on they can actually um click on the LPI and then go right directly into LPI and then see all the advertisements and so on and the calendar then we made that a part of the we put that back as a part of a page there but then we a whole page because that calendar takes up the whole page it is what it is so the good thing is we have the calendar now in one section and you'll see it it won't be an extra insert um the downside is that we lose a page to that and the other thing too is that we'll leave it up to to the resident to actually go on and sign on and put their own personal um email cuz if we took everybody's emails that we're storing and then just throughout the newsletter it's not the right thing to do so what we decided that it was probably best that they we leave it up to them to put their email as a part of that link they can go right on and then volunteer that information online so that they they would get that that newsletter electronically and if they do get it no my my question really was like so if if somebody doesn't like if somebody if an email bounces back mhm do you continue to send that to that or is there a way to take that email out of the database or if you get a letter back that you mailed no because it's direct to direct so in other words they themselves are going to go on and put their email so if it bounces back they're going to know not us so it's between LPI and that you know what I mean like if they go on and and do that so it would be up to the consumer if they would if you know it's we wouldn't control that you know with regard to that because it's not actually going to be coming from my senior center database we're not sharing their email address out there so so because we're not doing that we will not I mean I guess ironically right it doesn't change yeah the cost but like wasting stamps if you're getting things back no we're not we we took that picture out so in other words we went through the list if there was any returns um we actually took that um option off to when we go to the post office there is El everything's electronic that way too now which is fine it's actually world I love it uh it's clean it's simple um but you have that option if you want that return that we could come back and then it would cost you to come back so in other words they'll hand back like four or five of them and people may have moved and never didn't tell us so the only thing we do ask is that if IND if um anyone that is a member at the COA they move or change their address update their information we did send out a uh emergency um uh management or emergency form for people to fill out so that they could changeed anything that had occurred in their in their the year's time or two years time so I just was my question was if we were wasting stamps sending things to people that it's not a stamp okay yeah it's a yeah but when the bulk mailing caps they give you a special price but if they have to return it and then handle it again then it costs money so we don't want to do that and we we're we don't do that anymore so that they don't have a come back um okay discussion oh it it doesn't come back okay yeah so it now it won't come back now the way we set it up y in the new the new electronic system uh discussion on not offering medical rights to Boston oh so we found that there are residents that do have access to Mass health standard Mass health standard are common health either of those types of um consumers have access to Medical rides however they're so used to having us do that uh take them into Boston when we take them into Boston we our drivers don't come back they stay there and they wait for them in some cases it takes 2 to 3 hours and you know know the ride itself coming back as as long so we were wondering is not all centers offer this so is it to our advantage so we're looking at that picture we know the consumer does like that those are that the people that can access of pt1 that are on mous health um common health or standard they can access pt1 medical appointments so that would take off the burden here however what we did find is is that social rides of course would still offer the social rides unless they went with a um a sen a senior care option or um you know a special needs type uh plan where they offer um social rides as well but when the consumer does not have access to these types of programs um Medicaid programs Mass health programs then um they're working with us individuals that still need to go into Boston for some type of therapy so what I looked into that there are some organizations that do offer grant funding for someone that has cancer that would need to go into have uh treatment in Boston because they don't they can't access that treatment here in the Southshore so there is some funding that way we always look for that option but we notice that there are some senior centers and we I just actually did a survey with duxberry to ask about um you know these types of um long uh Journeys into into uh various areas like Boston and even n of Boston some of the places out there tops Medical Center and so on um is it conduces for us to to be doing that so I'm looking at the I'm watching the figures I'm watching the counting of that and having the Gat in place it's it's positive in that regard so we do have some of that funding so it does kind of work its way I you know just making sure that we are not spending money where we don't have to so I looked at that whole picture and it's you know so you come down to the humanitarian aspect of it of getting somebody to a a medical appointment versus the cost to the town so um so that whole discussion I thought you know if we ever took that Boston uh ride away what would it do for the consumer and how Vigilant do we want to be in terms of the humanitarian aspect of it of providing that transportation in that in in these areas that most towns don't even do so I I honestly I feel like where we don't have the capacity like every Senior Center we don't have a lot of um uh we don't have a big center with all these activities offering to the consumer if we offer these medical rides to them it's to them it's very meaningful and you know I want to still continue to have them but I also want to be mindful of the Town itself in our budget so um well can we put some something in in place so that um we can help them with um you know if if they're on Medicare and and show them how to get their rides but if um right so you help them do that and then for these people that absolutely have no way to get into Boston can we can is it is there a a policy we can write that said if you have AB if you so you do have that so we put that into effect so any person that does sign on with us for transportation there's a policy that's what I worked on we we all right but I was thinking is that I was thinking specific to rides in Boston so that we're really just offering rides to Boston after they've exhausted all other possibilities um yeah so it the way it's um it's very um spelled it is spelled out there if you are Medicaid eligible Mass health common health then you know pt1 is a priority we provide the telephone number to contact they would actually have to get a prescription to do it and that would be up to the consumer to to actually follow through with that so any person that has access to that type of Mass health or Medicaid Program would actually understand that that they do have these PT ons we actually we do ask them to um to utilize that one first um and then use us as a second you know backup if in fact they can't you know if they can't access that and the pt1 what's good about it if you have so we are still offering rides correct right now but I think it's I think we need to discuss it because it was coming up where it's so VAR there's such a variation in each COA some of them off offer it some of them don't offer it then we're getting calls from other people from other towns asking us we'll take them because they don't have access to ride into Boston and I I we can't do that no so you know um but then uh we uh got I received a survey from duckberry which they're looking at um offering something like that but they're trying to see what's going to be lucrative for them to to do so and how to do it so uh I'm waiting to see how that survey ends up so I said yep we do it and this is what we do and then maybe we can actually collaborate as a town so sometimes what happens is if it is you know we melt together of three different towns um those towns would actually pick up people and there's no waiting okay the van driver goes drops the person off goes to the next person might be in Duxbury might be in Hansen or might be whichever town you you you worked with say it was Hansen duckberry and in Halifax so all three of those towns would work together and they would be picking up the residents in those towns so the the van drive is not um actually idle okay that you're actually just dropping off going to pick up the next person but that person on the Halifax bus might have to go to Hansen and then you're on the the vi a little bit longer or when they get in the bus and they got to take that extra ride to go here for that patient and then over here for another patient you know get there so you know it's I don't love that idea just because it's uh but I'm just saying some actually did do that you know just so that they wouldn't leave a a van driver Idol you know so um but we yeah it's just a transition period of all these different things that are out there and the the transportation has always been an issue for any senior today and um and and then these Boston appointments are even more difficult so we have to be more creative when we come forward and uh provide that Outreach and advocacy for a consumer that needs to get into these appointments and find out where what funding is available out there if Old Colony has written a grant to offer something for somebody that needs to be in there that has some kind of chronic illness and disease that they have to be uh treated for in Boston that's the only place they can go they would be um be able to assist with certain things um not everything but some uh some of these appointments and Gat as well they also write grants too to support that we just have to be very um that's what we do the COA is a resource and we have to find those resources that are going to meld with our our environment here and the consumers that um we work with so um to meet their needs so anyway it's just an open discussion I know that it's come up often in some cases and I just wanted to make it more uh apparent to our our board and and just say it's been conversation now is the fee still what is it $30 for the ride to B correct we have not gone up on our fee either $15 in $15 out so it's um yeah it's been pretty it's actually very good very good rate um the next item was the shine for two months so our Michael is back for uh shine counseling um and we are very fortunate that we were able to get U Michael to come back um uh we reached out to midboro the council uh the um Regional shine office there to access him so or to access a counselor and Michael was that person so um and it's been really wonderful to support our community here so he is here every Thursday um I wish we had a room that we could actually he could have his own room however he is share he does share that room with um without Outreach so um but it's been great so he'll be here for the uh open enrollment period and then he'll be um after that I'll be when we need him so when is open enrollment uh open enrollment is October 15 to December 7th and that's for you can do anything in terms of December 7th December 7th correct so every year it's the same time every year at October 15th to December 7th that means that any Medicare um um any member um Medicare member can do any switching around either access tra the traditional go back to traditional and pick up a Medigap policy or they may want to go you know make a whole switch over to um a Medicare Advantage that was also to the time when a council would also screen them for the Medicare Savings Plan or perhaps maybe some of the programs that um the state does offer um so so those are it's it's a very important um part of our COA now how do you make the appointment call so any yep so anyone that would be interested in having to have that review they would contact us at 781 293 7313 and make an appointment with the shine counsil who is here typically on Thursday so okay yep uh so what um what we've been experiencing we have uh a yoga class we have a Zumba class we have a strength training class and the only place we could have these classes is up here in our Great Hall as a community room um henr trall isn't available right now at that at that point um what I did ask was that if we start using private property okay that is we go to uh local businesses who say hey come and use our space how is that we need to set up some kind of a form that says that that it protects the town you know cuz we're a minicipal building organization using space at a private privately and yes each instructor is um they have their own waiver forms but what about the town so I don't mind having these organizations or local businesses say hey use our space that so wonderful for them to do that since we do not have a space the reason why we lost the space here in the Great Hall is that there was um a notation saying that we they were noisy um and the people that work downstairs um in the offices were didn't care for that so the the we had to not have our classes here anymore so and all the years that they held them all of a sudden this changed so with the last 6 months you know since July July 1st actually so um you know I did talk to uh Cody the Town Administrator and he was um very uh open about you know saying that look still come and have the classes but just make sure that they're quiet just make sure that when we leave the building that they're not chatting and and but everybody is using the elevator they're not even going past the offices downstairs so we're trying to be we're trying to do the best we can for what we have we don't have that community room and neither do the so what did Cody say as far as you know I'm sure the the town attorney could write up something that well that's what I'm waiting for okay um however I was I was told that it wasn't really necessary but I really do it is yeah I didn't I don't think it's really necessary either but if you feel and you feel comfortable with that then just have the town attorney make up something that you feel comfortable with using other you know private entities they must have their own stuff but right if he was say for instance we I went to the meeting for Henri Hall um and talked to the board there to say you know could we use come back and use the hall there cuz they wen't kind enough to let us use it at no fee at no cost so um but then that changed because of the financial situation there now going forward they have a new board so I approached the new boards to see if we could actually go back to that area because it was a great spot for us to go um but then a consumer or resident there did bring up that point of well wait you know if in fact somebody does enter our building and it's a municipal program and they get hurt slipping or whatever then that's a liability for the town isn't it or someone and that was a question to that board so that board was going to research that question with their attorney and then get back to me and I haven't heard back yet as of even Friday of last week when I checked up on it so you know the thing about it is I understand that but I did bring up the fact what if we paid a fee if even if it was $5 it's still kind of Leasing the the property I would rather pay a fee because then it's basically utilizing theability correct cuz they cuz they rent it out so why not I mean I hate to ask for to to rented but but if it means that we can avoid any kind of issues then let's do it you know so but of course their fee is I think $150 to rent the um to use use it for each event and that wow for each event so yeah I think you can find something better than that no but what I'm saying is if they were willing to um this is the other phone if they were willing to um if they were willing to come down on their fee to like $25 for this for us for the seniors in the community cuz typically the majority of the people they do get a portion back yeah do they when they when you R um when you clean up if everything is fine you get a portion back I forget how much it is like $50 back or something like that that's still a lot of money it is yeah especially if there's other places that will you know let us utilize the room you know it's continual so yeah so these are the kind of um things that have come up or issues that have been addressed so with that said at this point I don't have an answer as to what Henri Hall is going to come out with because we're waiting for them to get back to us and I called uh the president last Friday and he still hadn't he he didn't get any answer or hasn't so where are the classes currently meeting so we are actually switch them um because they Ed this this on Mondays now for our department head meetings on the first Monday of the month the one class we actually asked our we asked the instructors could they switch times and two of the three instructors say yes I can and they they actually switched so now we come here on Friday when the offices are closed here and nobody's here we actually are here oh that's good okay every Friday yeah it is good and it's not the the the downside is sometimes now that the door was locked one time because something happened and then so we always have to be mindful of that um that the doors are got to be unlocked or we there with their waiting um sometimes people come a little early and can't get in so they figure that's not going to be a class or something so it's good and it's bad we don't hold classes they asked um one person downstairs um in the offices in the town hall said why don't you see have the seniors hold classes at after 5:00 or when we're not here at 6:00 and I said a lot of people don't want toise fine but win you're not going to get people yeah so I said you know like they like early morning classes so um and then the other one was to have it onest weekend you know all our exercise classes on weekend but we were lucky to have the of the three um instructors two of the three instructors were able to change their schedule to accommodate us and the one other one for their Fitness um was not able because they're so booked um but what they did say is that maybe you know they could change an hour or something like that but then we found that we have our department head meeting every Monday here um but we um are now holding the classes at sole purpose it's our first week to do that and sole purpose has been wonderful to open their doors but again to me I feel like we need to have some kind of commitment or letter saying that in the event that an individual does slip on their premises is that neither the staff nor the town of Halifax is going to be held liable for any kind of isses medical bills or anything that's an issue for Cody and the Town Council correct y so so we're just waiting for all that answer and that is it that's all I have um I just wanted to give you a summary statistics on events and it's just um information that again would what would would've been that was actually for September we had the ones for August that's fine pretty much these are the August ones cuz I I brought it with me from the other meeting oh wait a minute so each month um we like to look at what's happening and the flow of events versus the rides and the services and the volunteering um the volunteers there include the meals and wheels um and anyone that comes in like here you guys are volunteers so we do have a good we keep forgetting we even though we're committees you guys are volunteers so you know I have to remind myself wait they're volunteers too so yeah and uh all the Committees that we the glasses H um I brought these you got the September this is the August thank you and I think I gave you I think I gave you August because we didn't have we still held a me meeting but I think you didn't get it so um let me see what else we are have a lot of fuel assistants this year this month too so uh what is that under Services uh yes that would actually be classified as um assistance yeah assist with forms it depends too because that that one there yeah services and there if you under the summary of the statistics so um we got a lot of that and housing um in fact I was just invited to join uh the housing sedic which is a part of the Housing Authority through neighbor Works Housing Solutions so I'm going to be on their board thank that's such a well um amazing Center you know Federal um agency and it's just so much self there and um but there's a lot of need for it too so so what's the name of that board I put that in the minutes yeah I'll I'll send you all the I'll send you that one cuz I don't remember you economic something something okay so D's going to send me her new wood my new it's going to be it's yeah and it's it's pretty much with neighbor Works Housing Solutions okay I'll get you the full thing it's a long no that's okay Neighborhood Housing I think we talked about that the other day right so exciting yes it was exitting neighborhood um neighbor Works Housing Solutions neighbor so it's the cdfi board so cdfi which is the um acronym for it's the working with neighbor Works Housing Finance Corporation as well as Housing Solutions so it's those two organiz organizations together yeah then can you send me that please yeah there's a lot thank you it's cool it's a good thing yeah I just want to put a little bit of that in the minutes um um and that's pretty much all I have okay um I chair's report um I just want to say that uh we are a small board but um I'm happy that um we're here and um working with j lean and um you know we just have to keep going um to and really to search for new members I I would really be thankful if we could find two new members I am putting the word out as much as I can but my whole point is that I'm happy that it's just the three of us now it's it's okay and we'll just keep going and um uh hopefully um we will find more board members but um it it's tough when Quorum when you know I'm sick and then you're sick and we're heading into the winter months but that's just something that um we'll just deal with as it comes and um I think it's um I think this is a good meeting and I thank darene for all the information that you gave us I have an update on the path that I thought would be interest rested in the board I have not seen hiding or here or her since I mentioned it okay not nothing well you know I I was thinking cuz I'm on other boards and we have had people we small boards two people oh three people I'm sorry and people have gotten sick you know people to get you know think or could make it but there's always Zoom the zoom always the zoom that way there you can be at home unless you really can't but most of them we just still had our meetings despite the fact the individual was not able to either make it for some whatever reason it is so they had that we had they were able to participate and not lose track and we always had that full Vol you know that whole Quorum yeah so it's just a suggestion that if we do being a small board that we would actually still like if I woke up this morning and found that I wasn't able to get here for some reason um then I could actually then hey I need that Zoom set up really right away then we could actually still participate so now I thank God for technology right it's kind of good G will do the minutes for this meeting and the next I will also do the next at the same time to see how I do okay if it's okay I will do the minutes wow okay if it's not then of course we take how about if we all take turns I think you know maybe we'll do kind of and you know we're lucky that we have Mike's minutes because my plan is to just kind of follow his template and I'm just going to like plug in and you know and then you know I've learned from um also my Board of Trustees where we had um somebody that that took minutes that added in like every everything and they were like very detailed and very you know very great and but then we have somebody else who just sticks to the points and the facts that's what I so we went from you know three pages of minutes to to one page of minutes and that's okay as long as you're getting all of the information in there and that's why we review that so when we're here as a board and I'm taking minutes believe me it's okay you you know you you guys do great taking your notes and then when I type up the minutes hey you forgot to put this in that's all good that's why we approve the minutes RW that's why you review them so please if I forget something um if I think something's wrong um you know if I write something down wrong and you remember it a different way that's why we vote on it we're not voting on we're voting on what happened at the meeting not necessarily what the fact is but what was said at the meeting I have to learn how to type it right right I don't do that stuff on my computer but I'll but if you if you back me up for this meeting in the next one perfect then I will do my best after that to do what I can do search for new members just you know put it out there put it out there everybody I tried to get say I'm going to come back yeah well she's now what about putting it out there on social media I mean when I put and I do a lot of posting on social media as you all know and I've got like 180 followers on my social media but then I also put it into the two sites that are in the park you know because there's two different Facebook have you been putting the fact that we needers not and that's my question is it okay if I put that out there you can do it on your end and I'll do it through our through our site as well it's the second wi Club so the second wi Club I've listed you know as the second wi Club that's why I figured the love clubs so um clubs are great um so listing out like hey volunteer could be part of the board you know um Senior Center you know kios um you know and that type of thing so you know we could do I could do that again we just took it out because we had this other stuff to fit in so but I'll put it back in there because I got some 457 residents there and park I mean they have to fill out forms they have to be checked out so it's not like you're just getting anybody in so maybe when we're talking to people you know they're invited to a meeting they can come to a meeting and then they can decide and then they can decide if they want to go and fill out the talent Bank form and go in front of the SEL so I think step one not oh if you want to do this go fill out a talent Bank form and then this is the process and then you have to be interviewed by the board of Selectmen I think come to a meeting and see if this is something that you want to get into cu the more people we can get at a meeting um and get interested and see actually um what the board does and how productive we can be and how helpful we can be to the to the COA I think that's what's really going to attract people MH um well plus it's a great time for them to anybody who was to be setting in on this meeting to listen to what the director is telling us is going on is an eye opener for anybody that came through well it answers a lot of the questions that might even be out there and this information sometimes get a little bit changed um it's like the telephone you know it starts off this way and then it ends up around the circle and then it's a whole different story but so it's kind of nice but um getting back to that uh cedic which is actually a federally funded program they do a lot in fact it worked for a consumer and we're doing it now um but it also like for instance um home modification program so the cedic program will actually help a consumer through reverse mortgage they would also you know what to do you know how to go about it home modification I need to change some things in my home how do I utilize that um you know I might have gone to the you know I might have gone to rehab before I could go home the social worker says hey you can't live there because it's not uh it's not going to be a good environment for you to after your changes and and your what's ever happened um so you could actually look into home modification and it's worked with two consumers already and they've been outstanding uh very proactive um they go through a lot of the um you know payment systems and the financial coaching and all that stuff but a very good program for us to especially these days right so that's a major thing but we're actually going to um thankfully um Jean and I sat down we're so so excited that we will actually be able to use um some of the spacing there at the library again and to have some uh Senior Living um um Tau discussion with a panel of people and of all personality you know of all um backgrounds uh that uh attorneys uh you know I'd like to bring that up at the next meeting um so that was it so I'll put that on the agenda for the next meeting and then yep and then um you can talk more about that and and the progress that you've made on that right um the talking about y um you know board members and things like that um again I I would like to keep the meetings as close to an hour um as we can I think it helps um you know if people are are not you know what kind of a time the first question is always what kind of a time commitment is that and um so I you know in our and I know um we still have one more item on the agenda but if if we're all focusing on that then you know between an hour and an hour and a half we should be able to get done everything that we need to get done so um if we move on to board member comments and concerns Fred I know you you like to um or Judy oh you do okay let's go to Judy first well it concerns Fred I want to know if darene or Fred have any more update on the work going on at the building site I have noticed they are working and digging up grounds as because there so what update do you have it's coming right up within the next two weeks that should be done is my understanding that would be the pick the new building oh the new one actually Generations no so Generations asked us to come over to talk about that but I said you know it would be ideal for somebody other than just us there to talk about we can talk come because Cody would have all the updates yeah I mean you know he's he's kept us in the loop as well um as to what's happening and the permits from what I understand there's only a Board of Health permit that has to be approved and there wasn't going to be any been to a lot of the meetings where the storm water runoff and all of these things that are all part of the permitting process in any town when you're developing but if you go buy the sites down there now they have stripped the west side of that project and then the east side where the condos are going is where the senior center is going and they have started removing trees and doing that's all they can do at this point until they get their final permit but west side has already been screened off and then they put a green cover over the screening so you can't look in to see what's going on unless you go back and climb on top top of the hill which I've done but anyway um better you than me I go up there and take pictures I have I have taken pictures of what's going on there so I'm watching up both SES but it is progressing and now it's just when they I mean Thorndike is ready to get in with shovel if they can with especially with this beautiful weather what's holding it up is the various complications of of getting their permits done but they're this close to being finally done so storm water management been all that was a while two weeks ago too yeah so I was hoping that it'll be a little bit it was all done I I was hoping that yep yeah but it's it's that close right now they should be digging anytime now it's my guess because their fencing is up they're ready to go and they can do these things they've cut down trees and they can do that before their final permits come in okay that's that's can they can they sell I know they opened up their sales October 5th was their first they start selling because they've got their own diagrams for their selling processes here's what the you how that's going yep I have not heard from anybody on the sales end of it yet so feather winds um opened officially like to sell uh sales office down at the site actually opened October 5th yep um so that if anyone wanted to inquire they they could actually go and and received the informational packet but do you know if they've sold anything yet or I don't know they wouldn't that's not that's something that we wouldn't be asking that somewhere I heard they sold a few I forget how how many but they somewhere I read that they already sold a few it wouldn't surprise me a bit because with the real estate market the way it is and that a lot of people waiting too well and then the the person that owns this house for 600 ,000 700,000 800,000 is saying wait a minute when can I sell it when can I buy that condo that I don't have to do anything else with I just move in okay I don't have to worry about mowing the lawn or plowing snow or anything else stay everything is taken care of if if that's your style of living or maybe it's a case of where one of the husband and wife have passed away and now you have this single individual that says I I can't do all of this I want to get in where I can just everything's taken care of so they can sell that $800,000 house or $600,000 whatever it is and go right over there for 400,000 and they get 200,000 still sitting back over here in there 401ks or IRAs whatever and have a nice little backup yeah there was a lot of people um when I say a lot of people I meant like seniors that are members of of our Center inquired about the the project and I refer them over to feather winds um their office um and you know so they are interested um and there's probably about five of them already inquiring that were just kind of waiting to see when that was going to actually be literature they do have a website it's feather winds um so Halifax if they Googled it it would come up and then they could look on there if they didn't get get down to the sales office cuz I don't think everybody I don't think they're down there every day at the sales office but it did officially open on October 5th yeah I noticed been men C there quite often oh yeah yeah the Construction office is open I know there's people down there from Thor and of course they have part of their administrative staff right there they're ready to roll and they're just waiting for the final okay and I think it's just the Board of Health and I think that's ready to go right yep my understanding [Applause] y um thank you no thank you Fred did you I'm good I'm good today we're in good shape here okay um time 10:36 okay then I'd like to adour the meeting um at 10:36 and make a motion we ading the meeting at 10:36 I second all those in favor I and thank you thank you thank you participation [Music]
