orientation which I got a lot of good feedback about it went really well it was my first chance to really engage with the community and with the parents and I was uh really happy overall with the experience later that week we had a senior Sunrise first ever at Hamington is the seniors got together early in the morning and if you didn't get a chance to see the pictures on social media they were amazing look back through them um kids were here bright and early with some great staff members watching the sunrise over that beautiful field back there it was really awesome um fall Sports were of in running good overall record of 16 and 11 led by our girl and it's namely our field hockey team that's off to a 4 and0 start the marching band participated in a competition at cinamon high school and under the direction of Manny Martinez they won first overall and that was a really big uh award at a really big competition in South Jersey upcoming as an administrative team we're preparing for the PSATs and the fall NJ GPA testing and also planning for the fun things in October like the pep rally and homecoming uh I got to meet with student council this week a great group of kids they have really cool ideas for not only these events but a lot of the events going forward too so we're going to keep those meetings going every marketing period and um right it was it was a really good productive meeting um except for the fact that they wanted me to parachute at of a plane dur pepper Alle so it's indoor so we can't do it he still hasn't said no thank you thank you Mr for the record parachuting is not in the bu we're covered under the insurance P okay good evening first I want to thank Mr Lions Mr Coya and the entire Board of Education um for helping us for the collaborative and Collective effort for smooth start to the 2024 25 school year um our students are settled in and ready to work and we appreciate all your support especially over the last few days um our clubs andies HF Grant and students are going to learn the basics of sewing while making fun quilted projects our first dance is coming up already on September 20th it's sponsored by our positive behavior initiatives so we're looking forward to that also this month begins Hispanic heritage month and that's celebrated from September 15th to October 15th um we're celebrating through announcements we have displays um Miss Miriam Ferrara Our World Language teacher has been decorating the main lobby and she's preparing educational readings for our morning announcements um teachers will also incorporate seeing everyone there thank you thank you dreski next we'll have Dr T morning so Elementary School good evening I'm happy to be here tonight and let you know that we've had a very successful start to our school year we welcomed our new second graders and transfer students with an orientation on August second we had many new staff members join us this year uh including a new assistant principal who is enthusiastic and committed to making our elementary school the very best it can be so welcome again Mr Morel I think I could sum up the start of the school year in one word space uh it's wonderful with the addition put on to the ECC we have regained instruction space at West includes rooms for bilingual Nel speech related Services computer technology health and small group areas for RTI instruction so we're very happy with all of that thank you and the improvements don't stop there Wes has new curb appeal uh thanks to Mr Ry Mr Kya and the rest of the uh board members were able to dispose of that old wooden splintered uh be attracting barricades uh and replace it with blue ballards and white fence and it looks beautiful uh we also have brand new Chain Lake Fence which encloses our playground area to the left of the building um thank you again for recognizing the needs we have at West we are very appreciative student pictures were taken on September 5th and 6th and makeups are on November 1st and back to school night will be held at the elementary school on September 26th doors open at 5:45 the first of three sessions begins at 6: p.m. we hope to see everyone there thank you for the time to share tonight and we're looking forward to a great school year thank you thank next we'll have Dr slay the early childhood education Cent hello everyone the beginning of the school year has been very busy and productive um first and foremost we're so happy to have opened our beautiful new preschool Wing um at our ribbon cutting ceremony where we had many community members and Friends of our school in attendance following that ceremony we had our student orientations where students got to meet their teachers and see their new classrooms and we now have 11 preschool classrooms at the ECE and three preschool disabled classrooms so I just wanted to commend our teachers for helping one another especially our brand new preschool teachers it's a lot to put a preschool um room together from scratch so seeing the teachers help one another was was great and just a shout out to all of them um to accommodate the increase in students we have implemented additional drop off and pickup points with the help of our community and we also have adjusted traffic patterns so we are planning one more enhancement in the coming weeks to further streamline dismissal but so far so good we had our school pictures um teachers booked fall trips already um and we do actually have one celebrity at the ECC this year and that is our new therapy doll Tater Tod so he has made a fantastic start well love already he's acclimating to school um and teachers right now are signing up for a personal visit for tater Tau to visit classrooms so looking forward to that and our back to school night will take place on Wednesday the 25th 6 o'clock doors open at 5:45 look forward to seeing everyone there thank you thank you all right next we'll have Mr Ry with the superintend thank you uh Mr Lions I'd like to begin by thanking the students their parents our teachers supervisors and administrators for all their hard work and efforts regarding the amazing opening of the school year I want to also thank our principales Dr Cay Dr tgro Dr reesi and Mr matina for being at tonight's board meeting they will be attending our monthly board meetings and provide a brief synopsis of all the wonderful things going on in their buildings throughout the school year so that is quite a change from other years uh principles might be at one or two meetings a year this year the principles will be at all the meetings each of our schools can expect to see me a lot throughout the school year as I plan to spend significant time in each building which I've done already the first three weeks of the school year I need to thank Amy Claus Our World Language ESL and bilingual supervisor and her amazing department for their organizing and hosting last night's bilingual parent advisory committee meeting I was there last night the event was well attended and a lot of meaningful information was presented to our bilingual families that will benefit them and their children for many years to come and our community outreach will continue with scheduled visits to the Rotary Club the sons of Italy mother of Cabrini the Chamber of Commerce all of those organizations we already have events scheduled we will be meeting with them and trips will be coming to the Kanas Club Lions Club and other organizations in town and once again as the principles already mentioned our back to school nights will begin next week and the following week I will be at each and every back to school night and I look forward to seeing our parents and talking to them at all those events thank you all right thank you mron next we'll go to board member and commit rep uh I'll start to my right with Mr Thomas St um nothing to report I think it's been a great start to the school year I I have had a few questions from parents asking about the new um prek and West drop off I realized that there's more students in the building and so and it it always you know as a new parent you learn over the years you get better at drop off and Pi up but it does seem like I know when I've been over there coming from turning down the road of Excellence it seems like I've seen people go out thein I've seen people BL the driveway um I know that there's just more students entering the building but then people go around them and it's it just makes me nervous and so I realized that um I Heard Dr s talk about some changes coming with drop off and pick up so I didn't know if those are some things that you're working on but with the additional students in that building you know what we can do to just make it safer because it does seem like some people are a little crazy yeah absolutely um I'll just offer one comment on that point you know the Hamilton police are out there pretty regularly I know they're pretty strict about drivers and behavior but I would just say again for purposes of the public watching at home you know it's a school it's pick up and drop off four and 5-year-old kids at the at the ECC just have some patience have some Grace just be careful you know we're doing our best you know this district is one of the only ones in South Jersey where we will put your child in the car and take them out of the car physically a lot of schools don't do that we do that as a service and we continue to do that because it's the right thing to do but I I agree with you I think parents need to just take it easy a little bit and get used to the process well I think just because there's more traffic over there that you know there's a little bit at the very beginning when you start but it does seem like a lot more and uh so that's why I wanted to bring it up absolutely I think so there is about 150 more students going to that building um one of the uh one of the things that we did over there with Mr cairy was we paved another drop off area and gave five more spots to drop off on the left side of the the ECC building we also increased at the front Loop there was only three drop off areas there we increased that to five as well so we really went from I think four drop off areas to now like 11 or 12 um but I think again like we all said as the time progresses and people learn the system and which way to go uh it it will get progressively better it okay excellent Mr Shon yes thank you back to school nights are as follows ecec on September 25th West September 26th the Middle School September 18th and the high school September 19th uh we also are in the process of a video campaign that's coming up so stay tuned for that with our uh social media um and if you if you want to know the latest in sports uh for the Athletics if you just search Hamington High School the athletic website will be the first one to comes up that's the best one for uh upto-date scores schedules uh to actually give you real time changes uh for the contest and also upcoming events we've also continued the Hamington Waterford falson professional development uh where teachers from all the schools we're sharing best practices so the kids know what to expect uh which promotes a smooth transition when they when they come to our schools superintendent Ramsey is continuing to visit Civic organizations as you mentioned from fome Hamington and Waterford uh to introduce himself and to promote our school on the sports end I want to thank the girls tennis team they sent us all postcards Thanking us for uh the re the repaving of the tennis courts and it's a picture of them on the courts and the courts look amazing uh the girls volleyball's off to a 3 and0 start field hockey is off to a 4-0 start and they've outscored their opponents 25 to zero the first home football game is September 13th uh versus Holy Spirit at 700 p.m. Anthony lakovic has verbally committed to attend Princeton University for football so congratulations Natalie Claus has been the overall winner in both cross country duel meets and her time at Cherokee is tied for number two in school history and here is the website so uh visit Hamington bled devils. uh to stay up to date like I mentioned on all the real time for athletic information and download The hamton High School athletics app on your smartphone also for upto-date schedules and information and that's my report all right thank you Mr cter wford has kicked off our new school year with a lot of excitement and happy kids our opening day featured our PBIS pep rally assemblies in each building we're looking forward to a great and happy safe year and our next board meeting is September 18th at 7 p.m. good Mr C uh no report tonight I weling our back for the school year I'm just going to jump on what M donio said we're talking about some striping over at the ECC so and some signage so that there won't be any wrong people going the wrong way and things like that and and you know so first couple weeks everything's got to settle out and then and then we can get back into it so Hamilton is a very unique place and every one of us like to take our kids to school so and be the first one in line be the first one in line so there's a lot of traffic over there but you we're working on it thank you all right thank you first I'd like to also welcome everyone back to school uh the buildings and ground committee is busier than ever with a recent completion of construction at our early childhood education center uh the refurbishment of some fencing as you heard at the West some guide Rail and many exciting projects on Horizon our campus is large and uh constantly requires attention and as a committee chair I take a Hands-On approach to ensuring everything gets done while I know this may not be everyone's style the work must continue and you're always welcome to join in and lend a hand now I'd like to take a moment to express my heart filled gratitude to several individuals and local businesses who've gone above and beyond to help us complete this project on time and under budget I like to start with Mr uh Robert cairy I'm truly honored that Mr cap bar a man of great standing always takes my calls usually to ask for help with something around here on a campus never hates and he never hesitates to offer assistance most recently Mr Caper capair generously paved several areas of our parking lots and roadways and no charge to taxpayers in addition he's provided labor and equipment to help resolve drainage issues again without cost to the community we deeply appreciate his generosity and continued support uh Mr Alex gerardi lexic con Creek a few days before to start of school we discovered uh discovered some concrete areas that require urgent replacement Mr gerardy immediately sent a crew and Equipment not once but I think two days in a row to complete this job he later informed us that there would be no charge to the district for this work we're Inc we are incredibly grateful for his Swift response and generosity uh Mr Bob Esau anr Fen and guardrail Mr Esau did an excellent job removing the guide rail around the old Penny park that we heard about and installing new fencing to secure the original playground we have some great ideas for this area and we are excited to continue making improvements with his help Mr hefron Master wire fencing Mr heffron's team worked efficiently to enlarge and secure the ECC playground they also rearranged the drop off areas with new ballards and additional fencing there as well thank you Mr heon for your timely and professional work Mr Mike pasarella with Elite Landscaping Mike and his team carried out a districtwide grooming for all of our properties ensuring one of the best school openings we've had we've seen in years I want to thank Mike and the Elite Landscaping team for a job well done and for their attention to detail Mr Chad Feb for Bri Builders Chad was the project supervisor for our major construction effort and his presence on site made a significant impact he and I communicated daily sometimes up to five six times a day for the past three months Chad's knowledge of construction and dedication ensured the success of this project and his positive attitude along with his excellent DJ skills kept the at atmosphere upbeat we look forward to continuing our work together on future Renovations there's also many staff members that also contributed from teachers hacking and moving classrooms administrators sacrificing vacation time I'd like to give a special thanks to Dr CLE our ecec principal who dedicated countless hours during the summer while there's too many individuals to name I would also like to extend my personal thanks to the following staff for their unwavering dedication Sharon Murray Sharon's a true asset to our district often found on campus at any time of the day or night we are fortunate to have her dedication and Leadership also like to thank Miss Jackie Haskin miss Karen Henderson Miss Maria cenda Mr Christian fega Mr Paul Keller Mr Harley Williams Mr John Ruez Mr Paulie TZ and Mr Alex armad thank you all for going above and beyond to make this project a success I thank everyone for their hard work generosity and commitment to improving our campus for the benefit of our students and Community together we will continue to move forward with even more exciting projects thank you thank you Mr thank you excuse me um as you have heard from the principles we are beginning another great year starting with the ribbon cutting that we had at the EC EC um congratulations to everyone for all of their efforts making it such a success excuse me the classrooms look very inviting that the children were seemed static to be there with uh great efforts from the staff uh Mickey John and Luke thank you uh you put so much effort into this project I understand that you were even helping moving furniture desks chairs whatever you had to do uh to get this project finished um the um ballads were mentioned that look so I think they look really good in front of um the middle school we still have some yellow ones so I think we need to get to make them glue which is bothering me but anyway um and Luke thank you for donating the fence that went between those do I was very kind of you um I've got several calls about how nice the schools look they're well groomed um they looked like they've been taken care of with the fences the LA cutting the edging the whatever they had to do so shout out to Elite Landscaping for their uh time and effort that they put into helping us with that it looks great uh we tonight on the agenda we accepting ,000 rent through the Special Olympics to establish a United Sports Club this will enable all students the opportunity to participate in specific Sports it's a great thing of course they will be you know with other schools I know I think it's going to be soccer Pall um I the other dragon field I'm sorry I think it's just so wonderful that that they will be able to participate and over the years we have um talked about a swim club on the agenda tonight we also if so will be approving a swim club um for our school so things are moving right along I'm happy to be here I'm happy to have all of you here working so hard to make this place such a great place so thank you thank you Mrs so um from the negotiations committee uh just a couple of housekeeping things in the spring we settled the teacher at the employee contract and now our lawyers are just continuing to edit just you know semantics at this point like everything's settled everything's done um just drafts are going back and forth to finally you know get some signatures on that and also um just there's something on the agenda sort of negotiations related number 95 um it's we're there's a we're participating through our health insurance um package there is a $10,000 um program for a wellness day and um that's sort of comes with the premium that we pay for through insurance for our staff and I believe that's $10,000 that will be implemented toward the day in February for a a wellness um package or I mean know details aren't there but that's what 90 number 95 is and again I just want to reiterate to welcome everybody back and what Barbara said I I agree with her that everything just looks beautiful and I want to thank Luke and the buildings and grounds committee for really just being that you said your very handson and that's not every body's cup of tea but you know what it's it's it's you've you've done a lot and and it and it looks great and we're under budget so that's a win for for for everybody um so yeah and I just just wanted to say welcome back and um we're happy you know going off to a great start thank you thank you Mrs Mr nothing to report uh I just like to do the same welcome everybody back and everything does look beautiful and that is a testimony to our hardworking janitorial staff um and I'm really glad that that um playground at the West got that chain link V after being on that Duty for several years and chasing balls into the parking lot it's a very good thing to have and with that I have no nothing else to report thank you Mrs burs I'm going to welcome our new student representative for this school year give him an opportunity to introduce himself good evening everybody bu um for those of you who don't know me my name is Sean fedala a member of the class of 2025 and the president of student council I'm very excited to start the upcoming school year we already kicked off uh the school year with a bang uh as principal matina just mentioned um we had our senior Sunrise a massive success we had way better output than we were expecting um it was just a great time to uh really appreciate our final year of school um as he also mentioned uh we had met with him I think this past oh it was yesterday sorry I was going to say this past Monday um we had met within yesterday to discuss upcoming school events uh namely homecoming which is our main event in October we are very excited to do that um first general uh student council meeting is going to be next Thursday uh where we will anyone interested uh about these upcoming events uh outside of that I have nothing else to report I'll open up the board to any questions welcome sure welcome thank you for being here certainly feel free in the the course of your work with us to raise concerns and questions on behal of the student B we look forward to your engag involvement obviously and you know like the rest of the SC here you also won an election to be here good for you thank you happy to have you Sean all right just want to go on record I support the parachute idea oh thank you and if you could do as much to coers Mr too here on the left is telling me no way so I don't know they're not be so uh close out board reports I have a few comments so Mr Rams we talked about last night's Bilal parent advisory council meeting I was president at that meeting had an opportunity to address the parents there um that entire event which includes a full sit down dinner for the families that show up including their children is paid for and supported by the handon Education Association so it is not lost on me or anyone here the amount of resources that are contributed to that is really an exciting event last night we had representatives from the athletics department from food service department from the attendance office as well as the administration just to answer questions that parents have um it's also unique event because during the event we offer child care in the library at the wary soy school so the parents can really spend the time with the school staff and learn more information that happens three times a year uh the next one should be right around Christmas time so I encourage uh board members to come out and take a look it's an interesting thing um I also want to share I got a lovely thank you note which I Shar with the board from Mr Martinez our band director uh we recently rented a you see outside a able LIF to allow him to sort of from an elevated point of view direct and guide the members of the band and that seems to have been worth the money because they just won their last competition so we're really excited about that I appreciate him thanking the board for uh providing that for him um we've talked a lot tonight about uh the construction project ECC and school opening on time and all the things um I'm not going to rehash perhaps what's already been said but to say that this is my fourth construction project as a board member and I will tell you it's a bit I called it back to the future um this pretty Mrs verado Mrs Burns will remember when we were moving furniture at the war e soy school during that renovation and helping teachers pack up their classrooms it is a Herculean project to pack up classrooms renovate a school then get them back set up and open on time and we were able to do that here seamlessly uh we opened on time we've completed the project under budget with significant headwinds from a variety of different issues with contractors and vendors and suppliers and I'll just say last on that topic the ECC project doesn't happen the way it did school is not open on time if luk KY is not running the bu I am not here every day I'm not a construction professional um you know I I do my part and I try to be here and understand and facilitate the questions but when Luke sending me pictures from the roof of the ecec uh it's it's a great thing to see and I I actually shared that story with former board President Joe gadoo who had played a similar role in his time here um on the roof with the contractors s rolled up working working the project so thank you um I want to acknowledge councilman Marino's here tonight our representative council so thank you for being here with us uh in October Hamilton's hosting the Atlantic County cross country Championship uh the countywide championship will take place at the Hamp to Lake Park we're working with mayor and counsel to make as well as our athletic department to make sure that we put on a really nice event it's a great opportunity not just to showcase our Runners here in Hamilton but also to showcase the community there'll be somewhere between three and 400 people that come to Hamilton for that event so we want to really put our best foot forward and make sure we have a a course that's in tiptop shape and a really positive experience for the runners so we to come on that John you on that one more time do you have a date for that I do wait on I want to say it's October October 17th Thursday um so yeah that's some information about that lastly I want to I'll briefly address some of the ongoing information in the public and what went on today affecting the whole District but also more specifically hamton Middle School uh we had a unfounded rumor that was investigated by the administration and the Hampton Police Department today that affected the H of Middle School specifically at no time were any students in danger we be very clear about that the process by which we investigate rumors and information that comes in happens very quickly and very thoroughly we receive information like this almost on a daily basis across the district and there's a robust process that happens between the administration and him the police department to ensure that students are safe and well cared for here with us um what I'll offer on that additionally is at any times parents have questions I strongly suggest them to reach out to the building that their child is in you can call the school and speak to an administrator or speak to a staff member to find out the most current information and get your questions answered I'll also say that if parents feel the need to come and remove their child from school before the school day is finished they're certainly free to do so we'll never deny anyone that ability the last thing I'll say on that is we do a really good job here of keeping kids safe and educating them in a great environment and the response I've given to parents over the course of today and a little bit this evening was and is if you need to know something we will let you know if there's something that's affecting the safety health and wellbeing of your child we will absolutely reach out to you through a number of different ways make sure you have the latest information and specific information so you can make the choices you need to make as a parent the last thing I'll say is every day when people drop their kids off here myself included as well as board me other board members have children in the district or have had children in the district you place a certain degree of trust in the administration and the teachers and all the staff that work here you trust that we are going to care for your child educate them in a warm safe environment and keep them safe so while we don't publicize in many ways some of the security measures that we have both active and passive District rest assured that we are constantly looking at those plans partnering with the Amon police as well as other stakeholders to make sure that we are providing the training and the technology and the resources to keep your kids safe in school so I just wanted to address that because I know there was lots of information in addition I would also add you know social media is not a source of Truth when it comes to your students unless it's the school website or the school's Facebook or Instagram account if you want to know what's going in school you can reach out to us and someone will absolutely communicate with you and tell you and I'll say as a board member if you're not getting answers or not getting a return call let us know and we we'll see to resolving that but I would find it highly irregular that if every that every parent does not get a return call because parents calling for a number of different things and staff's are very good about responding and sharing information so that takes me to the end of can can I ask can I just share a comment about that um I had a parent ask me a question about what they do in the situation of what they should tell their students to do in a situation where they see something they hear something and I know that tonight all of our building principles are here so it just made me think of it I know you guys do such a great job and the teachers and the staff but you know is there a way maybe through the parent newsletters coming up or back to school nights just to remind parents because you know this particular parent said he was you know grilling his daughter like well what did you what do you do here and and she was kind of getting like he's like what do they tell you to do in these situations if you don't feel safe or do you go to the RSO go to the SRO do you go to the principal like what do you do so just reminding especially for maybe the younger parents or even some of you know I have high school students I don't always think to like remind them so anything we as parents can do to help give those same lessons at home or who we should call you know should I reach out to the principal should I reach out to the SRO the superintendent directly so just reminding us of those things so we can be helpful in keeping our school safe absolutely and I would say that in the announcement that was made today at Hamilton Middle School students were encouraged to and I'm going to Bar the eism paraphrasing see something say something go to a trusted adult and let them know what you're seeing and make make them aware and also which I really appreciated both as a parent and a board member dreski pointed out that if students were feeling anxious and we're concerned that they can visit with guidance and talk to a counselor and and you know seek those resources so absolutely we will continue down that line okay next we're going to go to public comment this is the first two opportunities for the public to be heard you come up to the microphone say your name and your address you can address the board on any topic this is the first of two chances you'll have another chance once we go through the agenda hi um some of you know me I'm Caitlyn Collins um I have a son at Wes and my daughter's not there yet she will be next year um I know a lot of parents right now what's on their front burner in their head right now is the safety of our schools because it's no surprise that you're watching the news and you're watching everything going on around you and it's not here and we all hope and pray that it's never going to be here but the fact of the matter is is that it's not a guarantee we have so many different students in so many different lives and we don't know where they are at home personally we try our best you try your best as Educators principales guidance counselors but there's only so much you can do so my question was more of I do understand that we have these precautionary measures in place and there are some things that we shouldn't know as a public and I do believe that because it does keep our school safer because once everyone knows what measures we have in place they are no longer safe because they are available to the public and I understand that and I respect that and I do understand that most people when they see these things happen they say we need metal detectors that's every parents go-to we need metal detectors it is hard for me to understand why we don't have them other than a cost basis and I'm not going to pretend like I should come up here and stamp my feet and say get them get them now because I don't know the first thing about metal detectors but I'm wondering if there are precautionary measures that we can take place that do kind of the eliminate the beforehand meaning all of these kids have these book bags is it possible to implement a clear book bag Rule and I know that sounds ridiculous and I know there were so many students that would look at me and be like is she out of her mind but I can't walk into a Phillies game with a hoodie for my three-year-old daughter without them digging through and inspecting it so I have more safety measures in some certain ways taken to go to a basement ball game than these teenagers have in their book bags so I don't know if that's something um and I I hope this is something that the public can work on with you guys with the Educators is it a clear book bag do we get rid of book bags I remember in middle school for a while we didn't have book bags it was they're gone you don't have book bags too bad carry your books and we weren't happy about it but we did what we had to do and in a way it did Keep Us Safe um I just feel like a lot of the things that we do have in place and that we might have in place unfortunately take place after the uh and that's what scares me the most we can continue to have more police presence we can continue to have this and yes that's going to save a lot of lives but is it going to save everyone is it or is it going to be we have them there but the trigger got pulled to send them there and that's what scares me as a parent what can we do as a community as for UC as Educators principles to kind of have a little more pullback in the beginning to not even let it get through the door in the first place and what is that answer that's most cost effective to our taxpayers but I don't have a price tag on a life so that's kind of just what I wanted to say so so so thank you thanks for coming up um I'll say a couple things there let me be very clear there is no plan to implement metal detectors right now in any of our schools that's not a cost based choice in other words the decision not to implement metal detectors does not have anything to do with cost we've talked to our the professionals and law enforcement and other counterparts and we make different choices around security I'll also share with you the board met tonight in the executive session before this meeting we're looking at a couple things just in response to the changing landscape out there that can address maintaining our level of safety and perhaps enhancing it where we're in so we continue to work on it and I appreciate your point of VI in that all right thank you so much sure thank you anyone else okay see we'll close again there's a second opportunity at the end of the meeting morning you got believe me itose hi my name is uh Noel Castine and I've had the pleasure of serving as a uh teachers Aid and a substitute over
