the school district I am extremely excited when I see the high level of enthusiasm in all the classrooms student engagement academic rigor and clear alignments with the New Jersey student learning standards um I also wanted to take a moment to congratulate our fall athletes and our marching band uh many of our athletic teams made deep runs into the playoffs this fall and some won their Conference titles we also had some individual performances that were terrific as well I know our athletic director Mr Sako will be having some of our teams and individuals join us at December's Board of Education meeting and I'm really looking forward to that our marching band I cannot forget about uh they won all local competitions that they competed in and I know they play second in the state of New Jersey so congratulations to our marching band as well and I also want to thank uh assistant principal at the wary so Elementary School Mr Morell um over the vacation the volleyball team was in need of a extra coach and Mr Morel who was the head volleyball coach last year stepped up to the plate and volunteered to coach the volleyball team over the vacation and I greatly appreciate uh him stepping up and doing that and I also want to take a moment to thank uh Tommy atanase uh our Board of Education member will be stepping down at the end of this school year I met Tommy uh 27 years ago and we were colleagues at the Hamington Middle School uh I have the utmost respect for him as a professional uh as a colleague as a superintendent of schools and certainly as a board of education member I'm going to miss him dearly but I'm happy I can still call Tommy ananasi a friend and last but not least I look forward to a great second Mark and period of school and I cannot wait for winner athletic season to get going thank you thank you Mr and go to our principal reports uh tonight we'll start with our Hamington High School principal as you hiding from me in the corner there come on good evening everyone um at the high school pretty busy right now we're working on a greenhouse project I didn't even know when I when I was a guidance counsel there is a greenhouse whether there a microphone turned on thank you Brian thank you all right uh at the high school working on a greenhouse project on the second floor of the high school if you didn't know there's a greenhouse it overlooks the fields in the back it's a really cool space it just needed some TLC I worked on a punch list with Sharon Murray her maintenance guys did a great job on it got the exhaust fans going got the heater going on it cleaned it up um it looks really nice and it's going to be utilized by not only our environmental Club but also by our Up For lifee Students for various fundraisers throughout the year so I'm really excited about that in our last meeting we talked about dual credit how we're trying to expand that program in our partnership with Stockton University currently now we have 10 new courses that have been approved we have 10 more getting audited so hopefully when this is done this year we'll be closing in on 20 new um courses offered to our students for um college credit next year Esports something we usually don't talk about but our Esports club which is led by Mr entress is going they qualified for a big tournament and they're traveling to Georgian uh Court College University wow November 23rd I think it is Saturday so the kids are going up there for a live inperson tournament it's an all day event they're actually taking a whole bus up there bringing their friends with them it's going to be a really fun day um I hope everybody comes out for Powderpuff for juniors and seniors that is a Tuesday before Thanksgiving it takes place at 6:00 at night it's always a fun event here at hamon and the last thing I like to talk about is right now at the high school we're exploring a new bell schedule for next year I've already met with various teacher committees and we've gone over a lot of the details already and um so everyone can look forward to surveys coming out in the next month so I can gather feedback from other stakeholders families students of what they would like to see in this new bell schedule going forward such as an activity period where kids could go and meet with Club advisors get extra help and all that during the school day so we're always busy and we're always improving here at the high school okay thank you and go burds thank you all right he stole my line I was going to say go Eagles at the end but anyway good evening um first I want to thank Mr Coya and the entire board of education for the Swift action that was taken after the last board meeting um one of our Middle School parents had concerns about the partition in one of our shared classrooms and I'm so happy to report that now our classroom has a permanent wall and both classrooms are so clean bright and quiet um both te the teacher ERS who work in there are so happy and thank you very much everyone for taking you know action to help our students um I also want to introduce last month at the end of October our newest mural in our main lobby area our be kind mural was completed in recognition of the week of respect and our positive behavior initiatives Miss Abate and miss judge did an amazing job um creating the mural and every student in staff member in the building were able to press their thumb prints in the letters that spelled be kind even storm or stormy uh Chief fr's dog was there and he put his call print on the wall and we created this mural right next to our ESL room uh right next to the door there's a devil peeking around his visitors and passer buers welcome in all different language languages so we're happy about that our fall Cabaret was held on October 30th it was wonderful night of singing and dancing and metal bands um hosted by our drama Falla performed um so we're very proud of our students and then the next day our students for the first time in a long time dressed up in costumes for Halloween all kinds of creative costumes and during our red ribbon Spirit Week the high school blue devil made an appearance in classrooms to supply a little treat to participating students so it was a Spooktacular week um also Dr Frank renesi who could be a relation to me he hosted a leadership exchange event with Summers Point School which was attended by our student council seventh and eighth graders that signed up and activities included team building games and learning about leadership in the spirit of the season right now we're collecting food for St Vincent DePaul and the grade level who brings it the most is going to participate in our annual Dodge Hunger Game on the last last day before Thanksgiving break um lastly I want to say that um today is World diabetes day and today our student council invited students to wear blue and recognition of this um they created informational announcements and we're planning a casual wear genan day fundraiser to raise awareness and support and go Eagles thank you thank all right Dr good evening everyone I'd like to thank first the National Honor Society uh members for visiting our school on Halloween and performing a very creative and informative Halloween safety play for our students uh they also stayed throughout the day visited classrooms and interacted with the uh younger students it's always nice to have them come back and watch them interact with their uh elementary school children as well this year we have a very wonderful group of seniors and uh we appreciate their time and'll be watching them for the wonderful things they'll be doing in their future as reported last month by miss chilia the 2023 and jsla scores were received and mailed to parents we did have a few standout scores that I want to highlight and recognize for really outstanding academic achievement first Kell and Frankle received a perfect score in math on the third grade njsla Jaden Rodriguez Jimenez received a perfect score in ela on the third grade njla and mallerie urix received a perfect score in LA on the third grade NJ laa congratulations again on a very significant accomplishment today as dreski said we recognized World diabetes Awareness Day staff and students were asked to wear blue uh symbolizing both support for those living with the condition and a global effort to tackle it educational PowerPoints were created by our nurses based on the age of our students and teachers shared with them today informational Flyers were posted in our faculty room and as Dr inesi said we'll be implementing a districtwide diabetes Awareness Day fundraiser on December 5th to raise money for this important cause American Education week is next week each day students will be participating in activities which recognize the importance of Education helping at home career exploration celebrating teachers staff and showing pride in our school our fifth grade student council similar to the Hampton Middle School and their advisor Miss Getta are sponsoring a harvest of Plenty food drive items are donated to St Vincent and Paul Food Pantry in Hamilton and last year um I learned our donations helped Fe 7,517 people in our community uh and interesting they're also put together and donated celebration kits because everyone deserves to celebrate a birthday or a special moment in his or her life and lastly on November 25th students will be attending our fall festival sponsored by our renissance program students will enjoy fall themed activities and crafts and snacks photo booth uh inflatable games like football corn maze and basketball and the event is made possible through our schoolwide fundraising events and initiatives throughout the year thank you go thank you good evening here are some updates from the ECE on October 23rd and 24th we had our kindergarten first um grade trips to Duff Fields Farm thankfully we had absolutely gorgeous weather so was a lovely day for um both grade levels along with our Halloween parade and parties we had our annual Halloween safety show on Halloween presented by NHS as Dr trro mentioned um so I just wanted to thank Miss Dy and NHS students for the wonderful job they did they really know how to do a good job making it fun and you know imparting safety tips that are very important for students so thank you to them another um guest visit we had from the middle school we had Miss Janice grao and Chrissy huluk I hope I'm saying that right they designed a wonderful project for their 8th grade ELA students students had to write and illustrate their own children's books and then they came to the ecec and read their Creations to our preschool students um some of them actually wrote and read their books in Spanish very impressive um and after reading the eighth graders sat with our students and they completed an activity together I have to say they did an impeccable job the art and the stories were so well done and relevant to our students so thank you very much to Dr reesi for allowing that visit and also for to miss grao and miss Hol we look forward to having you back so hope we can plan that again in the future um again we also recognize we're all diabetes today in a variety of ways students and staff were invited to wear the color blue we had nurse Christopher and our PE teacher Miss an Heen create presentations uh for diabetes awareness and our teachers share those in the classrooms with all of our students so thank you to miss Heen and also miss Christopher um our first round of Club started last week theater started today we have two five-week sessions of all of our clubs Spanish Art Theater and yoga kindness Club will start um after the holidays and then next week we do have American Education week um the purpose is really just to show children how valuable education is to shape their future um and it's a reminder to everyone that learning is a team effort between school and families working together so we have classroom activities planned to help students explore different careers and they'll have the opportunity to show pride in being part of our school Community thank you have a good night thank you next we're going to go to individual board members I'll start no report follow that I might do want to extend a congratulations to Luke and uh Kelly for being reelected and Mrs Skol for being elected and wish them the best of luck thank you thank you oh my goodness we are so very excited this evening we are excited to announce a grant approval for the second floor expansion of our new ecec construction the total Grant is 5.3 million 2.8 million is a state share and our share is 2.5 million there's a lot of work to be done to ensure that this grant is used wisely we need an inventory of all our classrooms and how they are utilized there are many things that need to be uh ironed out and we will as much time as necessary to make sure that this project mes along to the best of our ability it's a very exciting time and we are so happy that this is happening pre registration will be February 5th to February 7th uh on the agenda we will be hiring an intervention and referral Specialists to the ecec our goal is to help students as early as possible to help them design is going to be now know as stem Che at the middle school um classes study skills for elll and math 6 eth grade creative writing robotics again and we have decided to replace Global cultural connections with a more handson uh class so that uh it's going to be back to the drawing board for that to give uh children some skills um socially and even you know out into the workforce environment um multilingual math is new for newcomers Spanish e8th grade that requires a new hire multilanguage learning Science Biology and chemistry something that we need to concentrate on and uh standards are tossed and taught and reinforced p app classes will be English algebra geometry and Algebra 2 grades 9 to 12 so um these are things of beening that we're looking forward to and hope to ellish our students the Halloween parade was mentioned it was fantastic Ian couldn't get good school I myself people running they trying to get a spot and it was a it was a nice uh it was pleasurable to hear band part of the band with their to that made it you know exra exciting and I would just like to reach out and wish everyone um a bountiful and Happy Thanksgiving I think H people in hamon are very generous we heard about a f drive and there's allp of organizations that are are handling that and I'm sure the people of hamton will do their best to help out so Happy Thanksgiving that's all I have love our band that's it all right start good evening um The Early Education committe talking about you know the potential second floor expansion so there's a lot happening after a year that was already very busy so um and then certainly very excited about the new ecec intervention and referral specialist for all those students and just one more reminder for anybody prek registration will be February 5th until the 7th um also Tom surprised us all by telling us tonight it was his last meeting so thank you very much Mr asass you are a a very few words but when you speak them we all pay attention and that is a very good trait um and so I thank you for all that you've done for the students and all of us um and serving the school board I'd also like to thank the community for reelecting me to serve another three-year term I'm very excited to serve I take this role very seriously and there's a lot of good work to be done and we we have a lot more to do so um congratulations to Mr Hoya and also miss SCH up I look forward to working with you both as well that's my report thanks Mr good evening everybody um October very uh very packed month for student council uh starting off with our hallway decorating Halls were absolutely decked out in everybody's favorite movie franchises Pirates of the Caribbean um Star Wars Marvel but big congratulations to our junior class for their winning Toy Story hallway uh absolutely fantastic from them uh we also had our first pep rally of the of the school year uh all the students got together to compete grade by grade in uh games like uh tug of war musical chairs apple pie eating competition the whole nine yards um that's always great to see uh we also had our homecoming uh about 700 students in attendance which is great to see the output uh for that um just a great night music F who loves a good homecoming you my right um also big shout out to our Hamington football team the losing streak is over ended off uh with a high note against our constellation game against Highland we are now one and nine good way to end off the season uh for the upcoming month uh we have a meeting with Mr matinez scheduled uh to talk about possible fundraisers new events we can do um maybe rehashing some previous ideas we had to see uh what we can do for these students so hopefully we can have some good content come out of there and uh as previously mentioned the Powderpuff game uh the Juniors and seniors are currently training for that whether that be the girls uh playing football or the guys shaking butet so if you're uh interested in seeing any of that definitely be in attendance for that later this month so thank you that is all I have to report all right thank you Mr Fula so I have a few things to touch on um expanding on uh Mr Chon's report regarding the field hockey team Fresh Off Their back-to-back Camp Atlantic league title wins uh this past Monday as it's been widely reported the young ladies of the field hockey team were robbed without well they kept their jewelry they were robbed uh and we're all really upset about that so I credit the administration our athletic director Mr Sako and uh High School principal Mr matina and our superintendent Mr Ramsey they quickly contacted the njsiaa and wait him with some video evidence and some complaints uh that process is ongoing uh We've directed our solicitor to become engaged and we'll be communicating with the appropriate authorities to express uh and provide evidence of the claims that we're making uh regarding the outcome of the game and some of the other things that gone on so more to come on that we will leave no stone unturned expanding on Fall Sports in general as number of you board members have touched on we had a great fall we had a lot we have a lot of teams here that do really well uh team sports and you know individual students doing really well um it's great to see if you don't uh subscribe to our social media channels you should uh our students do a really nice job with Instagram both putting up the content so you can keep track of who's winning what when they're really creative they do a lot of really exciting stuff it's all student driven from what I'm told the photographies the kids obviously the content the a student athletes are there uh it's really nice to see and it really encourages school spirit so we like seeing that both not just on the field of play but also some of the other things that are going on inside school so check that stuff out as you can um talk a little bit about the ecec uh Grant obviously we were successful in earning an opportunity to achieve some more grant funding to add on some additional classrooms at the ECC uh which will really help us maintain capacity and ensure that we do not have weight lists here in Hamilton and that we are not overcrowded and that we can meet the needs of the community to uh service our kids that said it's a really big project it's a lot of work that has to happen between the and the staff to figure out what we're doing with what classrooms and understanding what not only our needs are today but what our needs will be next year and several years after so lots of work will happen very quickly uh our staff can rise us to the occasion not only our administrators or teachers and our support staff will get together and come up with a plan to address that project so you'll be hearing more about it very soon um I'll also Echo a number of the other board members and offer my congratulations to Mr Kya Mrs donio and Mrs Skol as well as Mrs Hunter uh over in Waterford it is good to have continuity on the board of education so I'm excited that Luke will be back Kelly and row will be back here with us and I'm excited for Christine to be joining um I am sad that Tom is leaving I've been here with Tom his entire time on the board of education Tom and I met back in 94 when we were both a lot younger uh I was a student Hamilton Middle School time was a teacher at Hamilton Middle School and uh you know people talk about teachers now teachers leave an impact on you um I still talk about with folks that I went to school with we still talk about days in gym class with Coach uh you know our cameraman Jason's behind the camera and I can see the sticker on his face he's a classmate of mine and he knows what I'm talking about we still talk about the good times um but I think a lot of people said you know as a board member Tom did not often express himself a lot but when he talked everybody listened was me included he's on more than one occasion uh talked to me off the ledge when I needed to be and gave me good advice that's important and the last thing I'd say too is you know Tom chose to run for the Board of Education uh you know when he had five kids at home was working full-time coaching a a Statewide state state competitive basketball team and then later was a superintendent of two districts that still found time to come out here with us and help and that's important to right this wasn't like it was a Pastime type thing uh Tom knew we needed help and he stepped up so I thank you we have something for you we will we will find you and give that to you since we won't see you next month uh we may just have to meet you at the sons of Italy to do that and that's okay we're happy to happy to do that um lastly I just want to touch on uh just want to touch on one other note um last weekend a member of the public uh confronted my wife at shop break in hiton uh my wife was there uh alone uh minding her business and a parent of a student that used to go here uh who since graduated uh confronted my wife in a very hostile and threatening and negative way to express some dissatisfaction about a decision that this whole board made that I was also obviously a part of um that's wildly inappropriate uh obviously certainly as elected officials and members of a public board we are subject to both the uh scrutiny and the displeasure of the public as well as the Public's you know happiness and Kudos when things are going well but you also have to take the criticisms and as a board member I've I've signed up for that for many years and I'm well aware of that uh my family my wife my kids and certainly any board member at this able their families and children did not sign up for that uh so it's incredibly disappointing when a member of the community chooses to take out their frustration or their anger on someone who has nothing to do with anything that goes on here in terms of the administration of the board of education so just as a reminder both to the individual who cowardly chose to uh approach my wife in such a such a terrible manner uh the process to file your complaints at the board of education is as follows you can work through the administration uh starting with a teacher or the building principal or the superintendent if you can't find satisfaction with them you can contact the board directly if you'd like to reach an individual board member our email addresses are on the school website if you'd like to reach me directly as the president of the Board of Education you can find me right here on the second Tuesday of every month I'm not very difficult to I'm a pretty public person so anybody that like to talk to me about what's going on at the school district I encourage them to connect with me directly uh whether you want to tell me about something great that went on with your child or if you've got some kind of complaint that you want to air out feel free to contact me directly um but obviously contacting a member of my family is not the right thing to do last thing I'll say about that is there's about 3,400 kids that go to school here uh including this person's children that to school here uh one of the things we teach every kid that comes here is Civility and kindness we teach our kids in the early childood Center the four-year-olds that are that are going to get here tomorrow they learn kindness they learn civility they learn how to address other people and how to treat people the right way and it's really unfortunate when grown adults don't understand how to do that so uh we'll we'll move on from there but again I just wanted to kind of publicly acknowledge and condemn bad behavior because I think as a society if we don't call out bad behavior that it just continues to happen so just for purposes of clarity that's what I'm doing individually I'm pulling out that bad behavior and hoping that it doesn't continue uh and if it does we'll address it but again folks know where to find me if they want to talk that concludes my report now we're going to go to the first uh public comment for tonight there's two opportunities to address the board for the public you can come up to the microphone let us know your name and your address so you can share anything you have to share come on up Melissa castone uh 672 grap Street Hamington it's funny because um what you just said ties so much into what I'm about to say um I really liked my formula of starting out with a shout out so this time I would like to shout out um Mr Morell assistant principal at West I found myself wavering on whether or not to call him about something and when I decided to um he was not only reassuring but very proactive um he indicated his strong understanding that the peer interactions that are accepted during a child's formative years in the school Community serve as the Bedrock for the types of interactions in the community that this town will eventually experience erence he was handson with the issue and that I had presented to him and um he really went the extra mile so I thank Mr Morell moving forward a month ago I stood in front of you all and requested your assistance with the room issue at the middle school and a month later I am here in thanks and what an appropriate month to have thanks a few teach teachers have approached me to say what a difference this has made but I have to say that I was just the voice you the board were the vehicle of change I also thank Sharon Murray who stopped me heading out the door when I was here in October I honestly did not think I would be standing here this soon and give a public comment of thanks folks from other districts who I've shared this story with have said this is nothing less than remarkable and I hope you all know that yes it's one room now too yes it's one wall but it's so so many kids and aren't they while we're here one last thanks has to go to my husband Brett who I know is watching at home he's had to hear me go on and on and on for a while about the wall to the point that he said I don't know who has been more obsessed over a wall Melissa you Pink Floyd or Donald Trump I'm not so sure that was a compliment but I'll take it Go birds and I hope to see you all at the Galla thank you all right now we'll go into the regular agenda I'll take a motion item Finance
