virtual site so comments step to the hello my name is and I'm anth grade at school I'm here today toing that you guys start girls team at High Point next year I was lucky to be part of the first girls B team for the High Point Junior wild this year at8 in morning undefeated regular season and the season we only have a few fans by kids parents and community members love watching us play the girls love playing and we've heard many other girls want to play as well next year girls flag football is one of the fastest growing Sports was even Olympic sport there over 200 high schools in that have a flag football team some teams to name Jefferson Wayville and if we join the super football conference and play with the patri group we play Jeffersonville Hill and regular season is 6 weeks long with only 6 week regular season only need transportation for three or four games would would be great to add high at seven girls uniform flags and foot thank you for taking your time to listen I hope football thank uh Mike the father V and just I reached out to a couple of people already and sent some letters in just wanted to bring it to your ATT that you know hopefully could be discussed to add a girls flag football team as you mentioned it's a growing sport it'd be great to continue what the theater program started and with the theater program it started off with just one team and already they the registration is nearly triple for girls looking to play The Following season so thank you for your time letters will be coming in like you said just want to bring it to your attention everyone will be aware of it and hopefully we can accomodate to try to do something for the spring of next year thank you can I ask you yes so is this a this is an unaffiliated with school program correct it's part of the high point mention football program okay so it it brought girls in from all the Point regional area what geographic area you pulling your so we so we pulled girls from Lafayette monu branville frankfur suss we we ended up having a team of 14 to 15 girls started off and it was two to three girls from each town that were on the team and what's a minimum viable for team so I believe with the high school rules or at least it was with us you need at least 10 girls to feel the team you play seven on seven you only need 10 ideally having 13 to 14 girls would be perfect to have a team so this when we have practices you can do your full seven on seven or you do drills on six on six but ideally you would only need 10 girls to feel the team but 13 to 14 would be ideal and it's a Spring sport from yes from what I'm being for high school even though it was a fall sport with the the Feer program from when I'm being told it's considered a Spring sport for the high school it starts at the beginning of April and I think it goes to the end of May there's only the current 2024 schedule there's six regular season games and then there's three games after that depending on how it goes play L is there an opportunity then for those players that play for the school in the spring to play in the with their Club after they they reached or yeah right now there's no fall team the fall team was only for the elementary level Middle School okay but for the high school level it's considered a Spring sport how what was your grades that you had the kids in so with they offer our team was six seventh and E they had grades that were 3 four and five and six7 and being part of the league the girls flag portion of it and talking to other reps with the girls flag already they're anticipating next year for 7th eth fifth six and third and fourth at all the other schools we played we ended up this past year we played two different hack down teams two different Mountain Olive two different Jefferson Len and Sparta I think it's great yeah I'm sure that my daughter's going to say why didn't you do this before and and I would say that I I feel badly because it didn't know but you brought it to our attention and with the degree of participation that you're mentioning look we want our kids to come here and have a fabulous experience and uh that would enhance their experience it's certainly something we want to look into so I I personally very much appreciate you coming and speaking and letting us know and someday we with this you will know that it was because of you that High Point has flag football so thank you thank you very that's something about which you could be very proud thank you very much thank you for your time good evening my name is David deer I'm from Township I'm originally from Township uh my daughter is just turned 11 she is a player on the team I am so grateful for the wild cats to bring this to life to these young girls um they have something to look forward to right now she's in the gym wrestling she wrestles with old boys she wants to play football but when flag came out she said I want to do flag and the positive attitude that these girls have when they're on that field and the love for one another and their coaches it's just tremendous um thing that you know when the team goes together and they you know say one two three you know wild cats our girls I said our girls my daughters part of that team they didn't say that they said family every game in that first huddle one two three family and that's what it's about so if High Point was able to bring a team here it's not a team it's a family it's another sport to bring kids to do something else you know and it's important for these kids as we all know electronics are the worst nightmare if we can get these kids out and these girls out in a field play some football they're not going to get hurt badly unfortunately we had one person Geto this year you know the parents don't have to worry about too much about getting hurt but uh I think it's a really good program um I'm so glad she's part of it my daughter was part of it um and they have a banner now they have a banner with all their names on it and to go out first year 8 and0 on a regular season go into the playoffs number one seed not only did they accomplish that they shut out Jefferson Township they won the championship last year shut them out they shut out M Olive they came in second last year so I'm so proud of all the girls and accomplishments so please consider bringing this to high school my daughter's in sixth grade should coming here in two years two and three years and she's already looking forward for it and I know these other girls are too thank you thank you any other public comments anything I have motion to close public comments motion all in favor okay moving on to presentations thank you we'll see you next year for spb uh first presentation uh Kyle the house good evening um so obviously I'm here to talk about s counsel what we've done for the past month of November start off with the character initiative that I mentioned last uh last month so this month it was self-esteem that was our character initiative theme and we held we presented a slide to the student population via Google meet which was shown everybody in the morning uh it provided importance it provided the importance and encouragement regarding self-esteem um the recently the student council created posters with inspirational and motivational quotes which were placed around the school in prominent locations so other students themselves that selfesteem aspect on Wednesday 11:20 we held the Nice Notes um activity in the front lobby it was just a table where you could come and you could write a note um to a friend a family member a teacher whatever one you want to be um you could write a a note of appreciation you could write a note of encouragement you could write a note of love you could write a note of affection it was just a nice note that you could write toone um which I thought was pretty cool uh on top of that we're also working with project self-sufficiency um during the winner month we're doing the self stocking contest which you may have seen in the front lobby we have S shy and we created a Amazon wish list um which has been shared to uh people via social media and email anything that is Pur from that list can be brought in and placed in thatx to be other than that we have PL for December which I'm really excited for because obviously we have the holiday season coming soting here always to and we also have spirit week uh you know probably we're probably to have things to wear things to participate ining spirit week and then at the end of spirit week we're which is always probably June and have a number of activities for the students to participate in and get that school especially the so that's all I've got for this month thank you everybody how today good thank you thank stent Council for all the great things they do they mentioned this a couple things each month but it's really important for them to do those little things because they're part of our school Community um and they do M do go a long way so we're very appreciative of that things I wanted to talk about um this evening very very briefly one is we had our students of the first markting period um for those you that don't know each markting period we have staff that come together for each department and then nominate a student from that department as a matter grade level conv 9 to 12 uh to represent that department students market so do that four times a year to me it's one of my favorite if not my favorite times tell students because we do a little lunch um in rill together with all the students and we invite some other people in some other staff administrators CH talk about you know lives talk about their classes talk about why they got the award why they were nominated um talk about Thanksgiving because it was last week before Thanksgiving and just get some feedback from them some of the courses that we've actually created and uh over the course of time in our curriculum guide has come from those discussions from students that are exiting saying if I were to take this course this what I wanted to take um and so it's been some really good conversations so that's this social media the students recognize and want to make sure you heard as well um we choose one principal student of the mark um in this market period was levinsky for business it was Jaden Guzman for English it was aen Co for be it was a Amic for Health it was Evan fiser for social studies it was Thomas gother for mathematics it was Conor Vance for Performing Arts it was Isabella gusa science was de Tod technology studies was kayy Visual Arts was Alana zop and more Lang was um so again a mixture of a couple nth graders which is very very very Comm award to get the first Mar period of your entire High School career to be nominated as Prett so that was a good time so I Switching gears we talk a lot about student um health and wellness um overall as our goal it's a very broad discussion um I think can we talk about this off with Dr Ripley and the administrative staff we Al that is our number one priority no matter what um you know and that encompasses a lot of things that's it's a big task um so that's mental health um that's physical um that's their access to food um that's food security to talk about and it's also things like vaping awareness and vaping prevention so I know the board is dedicated um a lot of time and efforts and finances in that area and I just wanted to kind of give an update of where that that's at um vaping um is a national epidemic we don't hide from it we speak to our students often about it every opportunity that we get um we have students that are building that are um addicted to vaping um and will report to us that they need to do a day um because that's their addiction level um that's real right that's that's a real struggle if they're 15 16 17 18 old or other um that sound that the important part is the resources that we have um it's a layered approach that we always try to um prevent things with it can't just be one thing it has to be layer approach so it starts with prevention and awareness and that starts with small group counseling that starts with large group counseling that starts in health and PE classes um those are all really directed attempts at the prevention awareness that doesn't stop that continues on but there has to be more because it's an epidemic and it's not to stop with prevention awareness we often use what we call the smart passes we put them in place last year um that's been very helpful to eliminate the time period that students are out of of the classroom and they're back in class for what they're supposed to be which is education um in terms of as that's really important the third aspect that we added this year just recently in the last month was our V detectors um now I the first one do have had this conversation very trans to say that I never want to spend money as a principal on big so many the other things that I think we could be doing and spending money on but this where we are right and we to meet the needs of students that's one of the areas that we had to um AB Target so with that aspect of it give you some ideas of numbers um we also have had Reach Out programs for uh parent universities working with their parents talking about B awareness this cardinal an excellent job the presentation to our parents for our parent University um we do do that individual counseling do that group counseling Bas are part of that approach um to that aspect of it so the hard thing about vaping is really this and this is the I was in a class the other day Street class the other day and sometimes I get in class and I get on the pedestal to stay back and social studies land um and they ask me like you know about bab they just watched a a um documentary called the Big B you haven't seen it it was on Netflix really pretty eye opening um it's about country called dul um what they have rebranded themselves out of out of the cigarette era what which branded as now the new um Bap which is Je and all that they've been involved with but I B is something that's accessible and acceptable in society cigarette smoking is not um think about when last time that you went to a restaurant right or um a a bar or maybe bowling alley right and you walk days of the smoke that wasn't that long ago right you see somebody smoking now it's a very different situation I gave analogy this I saw this the other day at our park local park in Frankford was that a soccer game soccer game and there was four adults on the sidelines B I don't know B Be things that's all talking about as well there was one guy that literally was behind the P John smoking a cigarette because it's not it's not acceptable right people people shy away from seeing that but yet people are vaping up and down the sidelines five or sixing soer that's what our us college and analy that's where our teenag are facing that acceptability and that accessibility that's in every street corner right it's socially acceptable right it's socially marketed a lot of capacities as well so they're up against a different time period than even we look at as children tobacco um and cigarettes like many of us were up against as we went through that aspect of it so catching people that are vaping the m c that VAP is difficult right it's elusive um there's Vape out there parent University that is made by these companies is marketed so who do you think teenagers right um so you can hide them in sweatshirts you can hide them the USB aspect you had back of your cell phone they go in calculators they go in highlighters they're all meant to hide and you know keep these things from being C so vaping themselves by itself is very difficult to catch somebody actually vaping unless you physically see it right The Vape itself for the um Vaper and committing to them that's it's very difficult so in the first almost month and a half Al all those efforts that were in place right we had about four inance of actually catching students vaping um either physically seeing them with the the VAP in their hand or Andor um the VAP come out it's difficult it's tasking um since the VAP are going in place um which I'll talk a little bit about the human resources um we we've been able to identify in a short period of time a month 10 individuals um that were caught in the act directly because of bors so there is essence of that lerach does work I want to commend particularly Mr our ass princip Mr assant principal and our security force Mr R Who standing behind me because they will be first to say and we're all in on this it's in all out R we're all R the same direction we're all in um it's it's a big job right um and when we make first context and idea we were receiving about 40 notifications a day um some days had more than that but an average of 40 notifications to day so although you you get a lot of reports until you see that data right um You don't know where does it actually Li um and I'm happy to say for a lot of reasons um again thanks to our security staff to Mr M Mr for leaving the charge that because it's it's been a a long battle for for a month and we're not done um we're down to 12 about a day in the last two weeks so you can see a reduction significantly from that what do that a couple things that was morning last night truck said to the students is based on levels is what the detective are set on because it's smart right um it was it was all out Blitz for a couple weeks there and that's why we saw some notifications that's going to go down um and the schools that we speak to that have these in place say that course the course of time you have to continue to lower the levels because there's ways around keeping that level from reaching much like that do there's not one looks very similar to that those here okay um so sometimes that can be way so we'll continue to lower that um we'll continue our L approach and we'll continue R um and that's hard and like I said those those individual resources that they're taking on a daily basis with searches and going through things and talking to students and trying to through information is taxing but it's for the right reasons um we're find with THC we're find straight nicotine um it is a slippery slippery soap of accessibility right and acceptability that our students are up against and it's that much scary to be honest with you um you really you know obviously thought about cigarettes it was tobacco you knew tobacco was quitea bad for you and eventually I came out it was really bad for you right but you weren't thinking about tobacco being laced with THC and the tobacco being laced with what's next um and that's what we're up against when we look at that part so just want to give you update on that for about a month in um V are not a standalone item they cannot be right if you don't have human resources respond to them if you don't have the L approach to Smart passes and prevention and awareness and the parent communication and the collaboration they won um and that's the bottom line it's just one tool and a mad of tools that we're trying to to utilize and we hope that over the course of time we're able to continue to lower that Mark um out of that discussion right of many many students with many many different situations um where having kids are asking for help right that recogniz before that they need help and they're asking for help um so that happens one time right then you know that that's success I just wanted to report that to the board more than Happ to answer questions about that um just an update of that continue Focus as not just a district go we talked about administra for years that is our priority as Educators because we can't educate them academically right if we can't focus on their wellbeing over any questions on that before just finish up a couple other things I personally I'd like to thank you and Dr Ripley and everybody else that's involved in the program I'd like to think that I point something of a trend set bucking some of the lack of support that is out there um to to implement a program like this um so we're hoping that we get to demonstrate that other districts our success so thank yeah thank you so I think the the big answer to that right is we're going to keep on rowing um I don't believe and Dr BR talk about this you know often there's not the recog um you know that that needs to be um and this is it's a very scary situation that that our kids are up against that we're up against as educational institutions so hopefully um there is some light in the tunnel some of those things there is a little bit of legislation out there with selling um if you know in this area I don't know if you can count there's there's five um VAP stores or gas stations within 3 miles of H um and they obviously mark it to um even though not supposed to but there is legislation but that takes time um that will eliminate some of that which will help I think a little bit but that takes a lot of time so it really has been The Perfect Storm um of a lot of things that have happened over the course of the couple years with vaping with um THC marijuana in the state um and uh decriminalization of that but that's also impacted schools and also what law enforcement can do in terms of their researching as well so um that's one area of Health and Wellness the other another are we talk about talk and I think it was August when in the the board office um is cell phones right cell phones and student wellbeing is really important that's the Center focus of one of our goals as well so we do have a um launched a cellone task force a fancy name um which encompasses um some students two students from each grade level um so administrators myself this AR mrma um a parent from each grade level represent as well as well as staff members who volunteer to be part of that so we had a great meeting U about two weeks ago now some really goal is to focus on what we're doing now get feedback on on all areas stles of that and then look at research that's out there best practices from the schools um practices Poli that out there and also the research about U mental health and social media that's out there as well and try to make some educated recommendations out of that there's no time frame as I told everybody as we going to this it's not like okay eight months we're going to wrapped up and it's good to go kind my EV as we go through it um based so that was a good good me to start when be updating that um drama theat State Noises Off absolutely one of the best um programs theater musical drama what whatever genre call that I've ever seen your I and I've seen a lot of them um it was absolutely hysterical to do a run like that um for drama um and the the energy that students had to have was just phenomenal so Kudos M jardi you know she um is is fantastic our students that reported that we had again we had night spars on stage we had seniors on stage together really really excited about about that and that just was a fantastic show um c a little before but we have tremendous staff here high point I just wanted to to share with you that um throughout the time of Thanksgiving there's a lot of things to be grateful for um there's many of our students and and some of our staff that have difficult challenges um and we we recognize that some of our students go home and they don't have the same holidays that we may all get a chance to have um so when we reach out to the staff and we need to fill the food pantry up in a day Je about a week and a half ago um and the entire our food P country entirely full wall to wall in one day from our staff that is po no matter what time it is no matter what their own bills or that happen whatever's happening they poured in the food and and filled the pantry up in one day and that was just great because we're already sending food out the door for families and need um so just wanted to share that and I know Mr Yardley and Mr pery um Miss bang coordinating that doing a great job this has been really fantastic we also have Miss a like a Thanksgiving Thanksgiving basket um that we were able to give to families of the course of time that is then morphed into a hybrid um over the course of time this year work closely with Pastor long Pastor long is a county organization that many prob familiar with they do a lot of great Outreach and community service and they were looking for donations for their established um families in need um and in a short period of time it was a very short window that they gave us to be able to U be part of that our staff donated over at the same time that we're doing the food pantry to pass it along to go toward new families and in our local neighborhoods so us just things that happen behind the scenes and they don't do it for they don't do it for anything else besides it's the right thing to do so just wanted to pass on that we have toy drives going on and shaer stent councel are working on that um it's just endless the things that do happen behind the scenes and some of them have doing shaer been doing some of these these programs tow Drive F efficiency the Christmas wish list for some of our don't get Christmas presents for 10 or 12 years um and not again because for any reason besides it's the right thing to do and they want to help people so I want to make sure the board heard that with have some fantastic staff members um all throughout um doing doing great things athletically not much much report except we had an awesome fall season and we are literally just transitioning to the winter season as that started uh last night yesterday was our first winter kickoff for all of our winter sports and we looking forward to a great year for for win season as well okay any questions on that everybody blessed Thanksgiving Jes evening one very brief thing to present that's it um all school districts in New Jersey um must assess their anti-bullying procedures um it's an annual mandate and tonight we present our assessment um we the board to it after which we submit it to the doe and um they certify it's the 2324 so it's a look back at last year's programs the rubric is rather elaborate so I'll spare you in detailed analysis of that and I'll give you I believe a simplification of that it's comprehensive it looks at everything you do regarding your anti Bing efforts staff training curriculum uh procedures both reporting and inv ET there's no aspect of anything we do to prevent bullying harassment intimation is not part of the self assessment so there's eight core elements on the rubric and then there's 26 specific areas in which we score ourselves um and the score on each is z three so a perfect score if the district were to award themselves that is 78 we awarded ourselves 74 out of 78 from that we basically identifi four areas that we're going to focus on to improve this current year uh first is to get more input um to use the survey and to invite parents and staff and students to tell us their thoughts their questions their confusion um their suggestions Etc on the anti buing measures next is our school safety team will meet more frequently this is as um our um antib specialist j r heads it up he was here last month and and presented um a guidance counselor a student a parent teachers and we meet and we look at the various things we're doing to prevent we also think it's important that we look at a broader data set so we can see things like uh attendance and grades and other discipline factors to see if there's a link that can help antibullying efforts and last we're going to make a handful of informational videos one specifically for students and one for the website kind of invite parents put a face to all that message on the website and say reach out if you have questions we also in somewhat layman terms to explain the the hip process on our website our website has all of our hip information every school has this so if you want to know our school any school it's mandated that you have a website dedicated to this and when we um approve the self assessment this evening we submitted to the Department of Education they certify it when we get it back it will go on our website and um we have at president the past six years posted we'll have a seventh year posted um it's transparent and if any member of the community looks at that or has any questions we welcome them to um to reach out so I want to thank Mr Jim Rice he works with um Mr wght but um we put a lot of time and energy into this I know the board hears about it quite frequently between Mr T the main office administration myself Dr Ripley um Mr rice it's um it's a big deal we care about it put a lot of effort into it um and this assessment is an appropriate opportunity to look at ourselves reflect on where we can improve Andy impr so that's our okay let's move on uh no
