ONE OF THE THINGS I READ THROUGH, ONE OF THE BIGGEST TRENDS I'VE SEEN IS THE TRENDS I'VE SEEN IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IS THE SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS. WITH YOU, YOU'RE SITTING AT 35 CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND 36 SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE SO ONE OF THE THINGS I WANT TO SAY IS NO MATTER WHY YOU LOOK AT IT, IT'S BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF FUNDING FROM THE LEGISLATOR. BEING 50th IN THE NATION BEING 50th IN THE NATION AND WHEN WE LOOK AT WHAT WE WANT TO GO UP TO TALHOUSEY AND WE'RE -- TALLAHASSEE AND TRYING TO GET 5%, THAT'S $238 TO KEEP US STILL AT THE VERY LOW, LOW 50th IN THE NATION. AS I SEE EVERY TREND IN THE CHARTER SCHOOLS AND IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THAT'S THE BIGGEST ISSUE WE HAVE, IS HAVING A CERTIFIED TEACHER AND THAT'S BECAUSE OF LACK OF FUNDING. SO -- SO EVEN WHEN I LOOK AT PUBLIC SCHOOL, THEY CAME FROM PUBLIC SCHOOL, THEY CAME FROM TALLAHASSEE. THAT DOESN'T EVEN REQUIRE CERTIFIED TEACHERS. I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO WRAP MY HEAD AROUND SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IMMEDIATELY THE FIRST GRADE IS A "D" AND THEY DON'T HAVE CERTIFIED TEACHERS. PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT'S A BIG ISSUE. SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I ALSO WANT TO SAY IS, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE AS A DISTRICT, WE HAVE 185,000 PUBLIC 185,000 PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND WE HAVE EIGHT "D"s AND CHARTER SCHOOLS HAVE 33,000 STUDENTS AND THEY HAVE SEVEN "D" THEY HAVE SEVEN "D"s AND ONE THEY HAVE SEVEN "D"s AND ONE "F." I THINK THE HARDEST THING IS TRYING TO RECRUIT THE TEACHERS AND I SEE A LOT OF TEACHERS THAT ARE NOT EXPERIENCED TEACHERS AND YOU DON'T HAVE ANY HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS AND THAT'S A BIG CHALLENGE. SO THAT'S WHY I THINK THAT MISINFORMATION, WHEN I HEAR THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSION, JOSS, WHEN HE TALKS ABOUT HOW MISGUIDED HE IS WHEN HE SAYS THAT OUR SCHOOLS ARE DOING SO WELL BECAUSE 96.5% OF OUR SCHOOLS ARE A, B AND Cs AND CHARTER SCHOOLS ARE 83.2% ARE A, B AND Cs. WHAT WE HAVE ALL UNITED TOGETHER, NO MATTER WHICH WAY YOU LOOK AT IT, IS THAT WE CANNOT HIRE AND RETAIN CANNOT HIRE AND RETAIN QUALIFIED TEACHERS. YOU'D SAY THAT'S THE YOU'D SAY THAT'S THE BIGGEST ISSUE. >> YES. I CAME FROM INDIANA AND WHEN I CAME, I TOOK A HUGE PAY CUT. SO ACCORDING TO OUR TEACHERS, THAT'S THE -- YES. THE ONE THING I HAVE TO COMMEND YOU ON IS YOU HAVE A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF, YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE A VERY, VERY DIVERSE SCHOOL AND SO BEING ABLE TO TRAIN THOSE TEACHERS, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THAT THAT DOESN'T REALLY THAT THAT DOESN'T REALLY CONNECT TO MONEY. >> I THINK GETTING IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN GENERAL IS A DIFFERENT COMPENSATION. THEY COME AND THEY'RE ACTUALLY IN THE CLASSROOMS COACHING DOING ON THE SPOT COACHING WITH US AND AS I SAID BEFORE, ALL ADMINISTRATORS NOW HAVE THE MODEL WHERE WE COACH DAILY. WE'RE IN THERE AND DO ON THE SPOT COACHING. SO WE ARE -- WE HAVE BEEN TRAINED ALSO ON ALL OF THE CURRICULUM. SO OUR BEST BENEFIT HAS BEEN US ACTUALLY BEING ACTUALLY BEING IN THE CLASSROOMS DAILY.
