##VIDEO ID:6Wpdp94zuj8## (saw cutting) - The crews are working really hard. Everybody that's been involved
has been working really hard. Still about six months until
substantial completion. As you can see, a lot of
the windows on the north end of this building have been installed. We've done some window testing so far, passed our tests there
so we can continue on with installing our windows
per the specifications. And like I said, so you can see
along here we're almost done on the north end with all
the window installation. And then on the interior of that, we've completed almost
all of our spray foaming, our studding, our
mechanical, our electrical, all of that rough plumbing
has been inspected. And now we are in the
process of covering that up with our sheet rock, mud and taping it, continually working on our mechanicals. As you can see, the upper area, you can see our PVC roof
membrane is draped over, so all of our roof is watertight and the building itself is 100% watertight to protect the inside
while all the construction still continues. On the exterior here, we
are standing on, I guess, what a lot of people called
the dingle back in the day. And this will be part of, there'll be some parking along here and then there'll be a
pathway drive path along here, like I said, parking. And then up top up there
will be delivery, storage, mechanical, the generator,
dumpsters, things like that. The loading receiving area. And then behind us, still
looking a little rough, but eventually will become the bus path and the buses will come in
from down there at a gate, a electronic gate that'll
allow the buses to come in, and it'll stay locked all the time except for when the
buses arrive and dismiss. And they'll make their way
up the pathway up there, up a roadway along with the
sidewalk plantings, lighting. And it'd just be a really beautiful way to enter the school via the children walking
or buses coming in. And they'll come along this roadway here and then they'll drop off
in front of the school. Here we are, we are in the
front entrance of the building, which is the east side of the building. Like we were saying before, the buses will come in right
here along this pathway here, drop the students off right at door one, and then they will make their
way up and out Peck Drive. If we look to this side over here, there's gonna be a separation
of where the parents drop off the students and walkers
come in in the morning time, so the buses will be fully separated from the parent drop-off, so there's no traffic jams or anything. It was well thought out from
the beginning to separate that where we don't have the
two coming in contact with one another and we
just have a smooth flow for arrival and dismissal. So good example of modern
building construction and techniques. So if we look up top, we
talked about the roof membrane that comes over and is
protecting the roof 100%. But you look under and you
see the purple sheathing that says eXP Sheathing. That's the initial sheathing
that goes on the studs. So that right there is the start of it. Then we work our way down. You see this dark gray layer here and that 100% makes the
building watertight. So on after that comes the brick facade. And in between that brick facade and the waterproofing membrane in there is four inches of insulation. So not only do we have insulation on the exterior of the building, but we have six inches
of spray foam insulation on the interior in the building. And then you have your brick facade, which is the actual facade. But the structure of the
building itself is the steel, the steel two by fours, the steel frame of the
building, the sheathing. And then, like I said,
this gets sprayed on a 100% percent waterproof membrane. So we actually came in the
south side of the building, so this way here. So we weren't able to access
through the front door. It's just parked off and they're working. But on this section
here, as you look down, see these gentlemen working here, but all along here on the right hand side, this is the entire administrative wing. So you're gonna have principals,
VPs, the main office, some conference rooms, and various administrative offices and their inner workings. So on this side, it's kind of
clear shot through the studs, but all of these are gonna be classrooms. So we have multiple
classrooms going through, but we'll take a look along the corridor when we get over there. This is our main entry. There's a system that
hasn't been put in yet, but the vestibule area will be right here where it'll be separated from
the outside vestibule area and then another set of doors. So it'll be security. There's our check-in
window that we have there. But as you guys can see here, this is the main entrance
to the school itself. Our elevator is here to my right. And then some of the systems here, you can see the smooth finished block, that'll be the finished product there. No sheetrock in this area. It's just a polished block that'll look really nice
once we complete everything. Here's our main grand
staircase entrance going up, both sides it'll be flanked. Right now we just have concrete on here, but a porcelain tile will be installed. The handrails and everything will be painted and finished off. So as we make our way in, we
can see the sheetrock is up. You guys can't feel it, but we can. We have temporary heat going on to make the job site comfortable and to comply with the
specifications to allow for mud and paint and tape
and certain building aspects to be able to cure correctly. So we come through, we can see we have some
smaller rooms along here. Doorways will get put in after, and we just keep coming down. So example here, we have a specialty
classroom right along here. A lot of them will look kind of similar, but depending on the
program that goes in there will be directly above it. So as we come in, another
typical classroom, you can kind of see what's
going on here with the sheetrock and the mechanicals up top. These gentlemen here
are installing windows. So as we make our way down the corridor, we're gonna have various
classrooms coming down on either side of us. Here we have some toilet rooms, there's some mechanical rooms for various electrical
and different components, custodial closet, this cutout here, this'll be a display case. And then right in here to our right, this is a common classroom. As you can see, they're
a really good size. This one has a storage
area, possibly science, art, depending on what the function
of the classroom will be. And like I said, you
can see plenty of room for the students in the
learning environment that'll take place within here. So what we have here is
we have a common area that leads out to the courtyard. We'll take you out there in a second, but we just have some smaller
classrooms within here, specialty programs and everything. And as you guys can see, the theme of every doorway
is you have your door and then you have your
glass on either side. Lets a lot of light in
within the classroom, so it's nice and light and airy. So we'll make our way out. So as we made our way
outside to the courtyard, this is gonna be the inner
courtyard to the building. We're gonna have trees,
plantings, sidewalks. This is like an outdoor learning area where there's gonna be benches and various things that the
students can do outside. Like I said, right in this area here, it's not developed yet, but it will be a circular
area with posts and seeding. And there'll be electricity. So they'll have power, they
have to plug anything in. And basically it'll be an outdoor space, but can be used also for learning. - The crews we got in
here are really great. They mesh together great. It's my pleasure to be in
here and be part of this. And I get to be here
every day as the clerk. So I'm enjoying it. And like I say, it's a good group of contractors in here. - So now we're on the second
floor of the B building. This is almost a mirror
image of downstairs, some more classrooms on either side of us. This is a science classroom and has storage for the
various science materials and different things that
the students will be using, wash stations and microscope storage and different things like that. But like I said, a lot of it is the same. You have a common space here that'll be used for multi-faced learning. We'll make our way now, we'll make our way down to the cafeteria, the gym, music room, loading area. We are in a back area. This ramp will lead
you into the music room from the back loading dock area. So up here, as we make
our way up the ramp, this is gonna be music here, music room. It'll have soundproofing and sound-deadening insulation and everything will be put up. And basically music will be back here where the students will be practicing prepping for shows and everything. And then as we make our way this way and we look through these doors here, this'll be the stage area,
and just watch your step. So as we come through, we'll
come through the doors. This is our stage area here. So we have our stage, we
have our ramp here to come up so people can come up,
no stairs or anything. Full ramp, full ADA compliancy. And this, like I said, is our stage. The step down there where
you see some of the tools and piping, that is
basically our cafeteria area. And then beyond that, where you see the fork
trucks and the lifts, that's the gym area. So all in all a cafetorium. Along our right hand side, we have the kitchen area, we have storage, and we have loading. And then on my backside
here is the receiving area with custodial offices, storage, and a lot of the mechanicals and the heart of the heating,
cooling, and electrical. So right where we're standing here, this hallway leads from our classrooms. The students can come in, which is very neat about this project is because it's a middle school, so we're giving the students
that theme of adulthood, right? So right along this in
here will be a cafe style, like in New York where
you can pull up your, the chairs will be fixed. You have a nice countertop. They can look onto their
peers, they can sit here, they can eat lunch, and they can come in. And then within the cafeteria itself, we'll have the common cafeteria tables. And then on this flip side
here, where I am here, this will be bench seating like
you would to go out to eat. So you're gonna have
that theme of adulthood where the students are
coming into adulthood and learning to be that
upper echelon student and not just the typical where they had elementary school tables and things of that
nature where you can have that freedom to sit kind of
where you want and how you want. (machine beeping) So don't mind the noise, just
a little background here. These gentlemen here are plumbers. And what they're doing here
is they're pressure testing the copper piping and
various plumbing systems they've just installed. And so we have to pressure test it. It has to maintain a certain pressure for a certain amount of
time to pass inspection. And that's what they're doing now. So along the way, no matter
what work is being done, it's tested, it's inspected,
it's double checked, and it's signed off on. We come through here, some
more of the glaze blocking, which is a really nice
feature for this school. Along here, we'll have our
display cases for various things that the achievements and
things that the students and the staff wanna post in there. So as you can see the shiny copper piping, this is all of our heating
for our domestic water, depending on which system it is. And then you could see the black pipe here is our sprinkler system. So a big important factor
of a new modern school is life, fire, and safety
to protect the students, protect the staff, and to create a fireproof environment that has the longest fire rating and is the safest for
any member of the public, student, staff, anybody to be in and use. Now we are on the second
floor of building A. So this building here, as you can see this big open area here, this is gonna be the media center. So it's a multi-use space. So we have the library, you can have small individual
learning activities going on. You can host events in here. But this will be, like I
said, the media center itself. And then there's some other
classrooms adjacent to that that are either RISE or
specialty classrooms. And over here within the media center, you can see this opening. It'll come a lot further along as we develop the project more. But there'll be a lot of
spaces within this area to display trophies, to
display art projects, to display various student
achievements throughout the years in a glass case with millwork around it. And it goes along the corridor along with many of the other spaces. But this is where you can
highlight a lot of that because all the students will in fact use this throughout the year. Here we are back outside. This is on the west side of the building, opposite of the gym. The gym is in this side, so
coming through doorway here. So it's a good snapshot
of the masons working and seeing the various multi-layers
of the building itself. So you have your CMU, which
is our concrete block. We have our waterproofing membrane, like I was saying before, where that waterproofs
the building itself. You have your brick ties, you have that four inches
of styrofoam insulation, and then you have an airspace, and then you have the brick facade itself. So what we have up top is we
have the multi-tiered roof. The white membrane that
you see coming over is a PVC roofing material
between 60 and 80 mills, which gives us that 25 year warranty. And then on top of that,
which we can't see, which you'll be able to see
later on, is a rooftop unit. It's a packaged unit
that gets put in place that controls the heating, the cooling, and the fresh air and ventilation
to the building itself. This is a proud day for us here, the accomplishments we've
made so far to this point, the milestones that we've gotten through to bring the best possible building and the best possible learning environment for the students of Holyoke. And it's gonna take place
here at at Peck school and the culmination of
modern building technologies and all the efforts from
all the parties involved, from the architect to the superintendent to the school committee,
city council, the mayor, and various other folks
along the way to get us to this point and to have this building that everybody in Holyoke can be proud of.
