[Music] oh [Music] [Applause] we hope you guys can make to our concert this Friday right here not right here in the cafeteria absolutely first before anything does anybody have any questions or any comments for these amazing Youth and all that they're doing go ahead miss that was wonderful seriously thank you so much for sharing your talent with us it was really really nice to see you all here thank you thank you I knew you were gonna say something Miss tensley Williams I got you go for it you better to be glad I didn't wear my dancing shoes watch out you guys was awesome thank you so much Mr colore uh believe me this fills my heart because we kept the Arts in this school department which for many many years it was a choice of Athletics or arts or something else and I'm very very glad that we kept the arts for you children and for all the city of oo were you gonna say something Miss Lio Martinez no they just did an excellent job I can talk too much so because I start coughing but um just want to say amazing you guys great Dr Rivera cologne I just want to say thank you for sharing your talent thank you to the directors for your guidance because without you we don't have the people who are going to guide our youth to be able to make this art and be able to share with the world so thank you so much and thank you for being here and were you nervous I know right like a small intimate group here so we we didn't know so if you made any mistake or you were thinking about oh I could have done this or that we think you were perfect so thank you Mr SoDo I I just want to Echo what everybody's saying and and really just thank you from the bottom of my heart because um everybody that's sitting here part of our role is to hear all of you know the complaints and the bad things that are happening in holy o it's a big part of our job often times you know um we don't get to see all the good I'm I'm lucky you know these people have full-time jobs uh I stop at Dean a lot and stem a lot and I get to see a lot of the work that you guys are doing but whenever we get to see it and they get to see it it's just inspiring to them uh to remind them you know while while things get hard in these roles um today being able to see you it's a it's a constant reminder to them to keep continuing to stay in the fight and again I want to thank the leaders over there um one of the things that uh I appreciate about this program is is that it gives students choice in like their learning uh I learned from um two members on my student cabinet last week that one of the reasons they love stem beats so much is that the the students get to select what songs they want to work on and that's part of uh you know so they're they're voting on like hey we want to do this song or that that song and then they get together and they do it and the other thing I appreciate is um it it shows you such a strong attribute that you need to have in life which is teamwork um the the sound that we're hearing doesn't come together by one individual you guys always have to work together and I see Mr theilla and Miss po always correcting hey on the guitar I need to see this on the piano I need to see this on the drums I need to see this because they hear things that like we wouldn't hear but at the end of the day they're teaching you how to work together which is you know in life that's you you're going to have to figure out how to work together collaboratively to get an achieved outcome in this is this is showing that so long- winded way of just saying thank you for inspiring me today and giving me a reason to keep going and giving everybody a reason here to keep going oh now she wants to talk martinz I'm curious did any of you have this Talent OR you learn this Talent did you learn this throughout the time you've been here um personally I learned the drums uh I don't know about everyone else but I like didn't know this before so um he kind of taught me everything anyone else everybody else learned here or learned they all had the talent it was just who got it out of them with the piano I never I have never like ever touched this until last year but I have I've always like had a music class or had a like a class with music so I think this is kind of where it came from uh La at the beginning of last year or in the middle between there this is when I started the base and I I just like f little it sense yeah so we pretty much Start everybody new when they come in in sixth grade and last year like Kiki and Amir and axel started last year Corey started this year so everyone starts pretty much fresh on their instruments Mr Sheen so this is probably more for Mr stto but how does this type of musical group you took my question transfer over like how are these students supported at hoyo Kai or at Dean when they um transition to either one of those schools with their music education and the type of group yeah I mean the stem the stem beats program is unique right what they're doing you know what Mark Todd is doing and what um you know Cassie Stewart is doing at the high school is a little different than what's happening at stem beats but I think one thing that this does and and you heard it from one of our students is it it inspires them to uh to you know to to practice this art when they get to holoai to a little different but uh one of the things that we want to you know that our team has thought about is um you know we do have a a a Strings program but the majority of the instruction is happening in fifth grade in elementary school and the you know right now in middle school there's not like a continuation between that middle school and moving on to high school and our music department chairs which um Aon theill is is one of them they you know they're we're kind of tasked with like planning what that needs to look like moving forward um these kids love stem beats and everybody that I talk to love stem stem beats if we tried to like say no we want to do some strings a little different and uh that that might not go over so well with some of the students here but we want to look at like you know what's going on at Sullivan and how do we provide a similar experience at Sullivan than some of these kids at um at at stem are getting want to finish your your question yeah so I guess I'm more concerned is how do we we have so much creativity harnessed here how do we make sure that it just doesn't stop when you enter nth grade so it's great that we're looking at Equity amongst the middle school programs and and different things that fit in those programs but I think like and this isn't a challenge to the department head this is a challenge to you and it's how does how are the programs like this unique programs that we're teaching students because even for so long we saw students in the Strings program and they get to the high school and there's no Str like how do we make sure that all of these students can continue their growth in music when this is the type of music they may like doing right now and this is what they want to continue and that may not be something that's available at both schools for them Miss tensley Miss tensley well can you hear me okay Miss tensley Williams do you have a special night that you practice because I will show up Friday this Friday every Friday okay well I'll be at the concert so okay I'll be here thank you guys we love you so I'm gonna keep going off of what Mr Shen so one of the Beauties is that I've gone to a lot of conferences and at these conferences and even Mr Shen can say some of the bands that we see that they come and that upbeat Tempo type of I don't know just makes you want to stand up and start dancing cuz they're really keeping up to times with the music that we're playing and so the students there high school students that are coming out and playing for us and and the marching band and everything it's just amazing the music gets inside of you my question to you is was when you got into this and now that you've been in it is it something that you want to continue because we really need to look at then figuring out how we continue this same way that we did with the Dual language where we had to keep adding to the next year to the next year because it's something that families wanted if this is something that we're creating the talent right so it was something that you had in you and you had somebody pushing you because they believed in you and here you are doing something that you've never done before in your life and you're doing it and you're doing a fascinating job why lose that because if you don't continue you'll lose it and what else do we have in our community that's going to offer them the ability to continue on doing what they're doing unless they're paying some music teacher to teach them um and that's far and few so this is something that we when we're talking about that strategic planning or even thinking about what we want to see for our our students if this is something that is really driving them and guess what and it's keeping them engaged then we really need to start rethinking how do we get you know to like the now and not stay in the way back one um that's just my personal opinion yeah and like make no mistake stem beats is what it is and these kids are loving and are passionate about music because of Mr dill and Miss po right now um thank you for what you do need yes we Absolut I wish I can uh take him and clone him and have him in every Elementary School and and both high schools um without without him this stem beats program wouldn't be what it is and we need more more teachers like him and and that's the reality um uh it it would like I don't I know for a fact that stem beats wouldn't be where it is right now if it wasn't for this amazing talented educator that's sitting in front of you Mr colore just a question mild did you sing at the conference I'm not Miss tensley Williams I'm not standing up and singing I'm gonna tell you that right now I'm not so talented did did you want some of the students to answer like do you want to continue absolutely all right let's hear from I want to know what are their thoughts moving forward because all of them except one is in eighth grade going on tonight if I had a choice of course I would I would continue every day every week I feel like I've got teach too like even though like my only even though my only thing is singing the microphone even though my only thing is singing I feel like I've been teach like my like I teach myself but also got teached by like Miss po cuz like she teach me how to harmonize and all that all the extra stuff you know and like I've been teached too even though it's like just singing but like there's more stuff to singing and there's more stuff to music to learn about more than just like keys and like just like all Pian ropones there's more to learn of music it's like music is Art it's not only just music it's art S3 she's lucky I know say and she's shy one the lead singer is the shy one right now so we're GNA pass that microphone on back because she's not saying any more than nodding her head I know those looks in those eyes yeah but you all heard her voice though I know anybody else would like to answer the question would you continue yes I would continue um I didn't really get into music until last year when I came to stem before the other schools we would just be patting drumsticks on buckets but now we're actually doing music and stuff but that I want to continue the base when I go into high school instead of just like being at home doing this strumming uh strings I want to actually play with people can can I can I um I would like to continue too cuz I think um drums has kind of been like a passion for me now like I I kind of challenge myself at home sometimes you know it GES me something to like be excited for when I come to school um and not just like you know have to do work you know I have to like I have something to look forward to which is doing something that I like like drums so yeah I would love to continue I don't got no fancy speech but yeah definitely else wait was the question again continue would you want to continue you know that yes yes yes yes yeah so there you have it they would all love to so now how do we make that happen because ninth this year is going by real quick Miss LeBron Martinez yeah the question I have is actually for the teachers um how are they selected is this through their exploratory weeks that they go through it or how you guys end up selecting do the people sign up and what's yeah so um every student at stem has music the entire year um so we include almost everybody in our concert that's this Friday um and then this group um for about since August they've been staying after school once a week um getting If I Ain't Got You together and the second song that we played is going to be a song that everybody's playing at our concert so um it wasn't always that way throughout the history of stem but that was my goal for every student to have music the whole year and so that's where we are now okay good thank you excellent I couldn't say thank you anymore any much more I mean you guys were phenomenal I really thank you so much for being here thank you for kind of validating where my thoughts were for quite some time even when I've gone come here and I've seen you guys play and then I look at them and say okay now what you know um because truly this is something like I've always said it's it's it's special it's they have talent but we have to continue on we keep saying we want to grow we want to grow our students and and make our community stronger but we can't stop if we don't have we can't continue if we don't have something to continue it with so thank you so much for being here I'm going to rush through my patience really fast on Friday so I can make it to your concert so I want to do like really quick visits hopefully nobody saw me say that on T if they're ever short on funds we have to put our money where I'm not so let yeah and I'm happy to be part of that conversation I'm sure miss POS too about how we make it continue thank you than you [Applause]
