well two three of you mentioned them yeah you want explainer do you want me to Oh I thought it was for you okay explain it well I'll try my best it's like this Wood Circle and then there's a ball in the middle and then the students have to try to like hit the ball and then if the ball hits your feet then you're out it's it's a little confusing but I remember playing it in elementary schol oh yeah good explanation thank you yeah that was and I had the opportunity to see the Gaga pit up Oh I thought you no not it's beautiful um I forget that was it Crosby um construction company that donated their time and they put mats on the bottom of it it's really really looks great out is that mat then that we're looking at or is this sand or most of them are sand and dirt but Dr Knights have a mat on the bottom but is there sand on top of the map then oh it's just just a m it's a popular activity our schools thank you yeah um Can got scrolled down all right so we are on agenda item 10.1 with our student representative updates all right so this is our student representative update okay so these are kind of what we're going to go through okay we have my introduction then we have the the Polar Plunge the lysium events and then the activities update for like sports and stuff so one is my introduction hi I'm Sienna but I do go by CeCe I enjoy being in nature like having bonfires but not with like that thing that was going on where was like a fire hazard or something like yeah um I like swimming in lakes and then I also like painting or just going outside or painting the sunset or both um I enjoy participating in school activities including track and field student council principal advisory Council link crew and Trio Upward Bound um in these s you can see my best friend right next to me her name's NOA and we met over a trio Upward Bound like summer program to do college credits for free and I found out she was deaf and so I started learning ASL and stuff to become better friends with her sense and we're still friends to this day cool very cool that's our introduction good thanks CeCe all right so next is the polar plunge which has become a big activity in our school and we're having our second Polar Plunge on Halloween this year but the Polar Plunge is a fundraiser and then the organization that hosts a fundraiser is going to bring a mobile pool to our school on Halloween and then the fire department is going to fill it up with cold water and then students that raise a minimum of $75 or more get to like jump into the mobile pool and participate in the plunge and then if students aren't able to raise a $75 but want to participate there's a scholarship available and so that way they can get the $75 and everyone who wants to participate is able to and then you also get to wear fun Halloween costumes last year the swim team did it together we're doing it again this year and we wore swim CES and goggles and flippers we looked really interesting but it was really fun and you can jump with a team you can jump jump with friends you can jump by yourself and so this year our goal is to raise $20,000 and we want 200 participants last year we ra we raised $16,000 and we had 150 participants and then something that's like fun with the Polar Plunge is the teachers get to jump with the students and so we have a thermometer in our school and then as we raise more money we fill up the thermometer and let's say there's a teacher's picture by the $10,000 Mark once we reach $10,000 then that teacher will jump in and it's a super fun way to involve the teachers and to kind of get the students excited to raise money cuz they'll see their teachers jump and last year Mr Johnson jumped and he jumped in a suit soie go as didn't he go as like a caveman or something stone stone yep and that's another fun part of it because the seniors get to pick the costume for Mr borgi so I'm not sure what he's jumping as this year we still have to figure it out but I know yeah should have him go as Tinker Bell Tinker Bell you know now it's on TV so if that's what you choose you'll know who suggested it yeah that's okay with me we'll let you guys know what he chooses next meeting or what we choose for him yeah and then all the funds um from the fundraiser they're going to go towards Special Olympics Minnesota and then they're also going to go towards our school's DCd program and that money will go towards um buying adaptive equipment for different elective classes yeah that's kind of the gist of the poet punch excting okay we have the LI experience too um the thoughts of the student body most people when I asked them they were like At first I wasn't very interested because there was a person I think maybe he be like what is it called when they what is it called when they speak and they try to make you laugh a comedian yeah I think he's be that but he just wasn't that funny um he was talking a lot about how you have goals you are able to work towards your goals like and then we had Hannah Hannah Nicholson and she came and she sang multiple different songs and she also had a background drummer but all of these events were pretty much to just tell us about how drugs are bad how you have goals you are supposed to go towards your goals and you have people that can help you get towards your goals and one thing we also did learn is how to tell if someone's overdosing and what to use to help them and we had three speakers talk about either just drug use or their experience with drug use and it was a very great experience and um I actually talked to another student about it and she said I feel like it was very educational because a lot of people don't get how hard it is to for people to struggle with some sort of ADD ition and it was also very important when they talked about how to save someone from overdosing that was from 11th grader and I think this is how we can get points across in the future by having maybe someone that's wild like known or like famous because I watched everyone's faces when they first seen this random person they're like who is this but they realized she was on America's Got Talent or something in place like top 40 or 20 or something everyone per up everyone looked Everyone's Watching and I feel like that really helped get the point across MH and then um the main purposes of those guest speakers would have fun obviously encourage people to be a group sing the songs as a group participate and then also to talk about how to help someone if they're in a state of overdosing or what to do like how you can call the police and all that stuff without actually getting in trouble and then also you are reminded that there is help for your addictions if you are addicted and you will not get in trouble if you ask for help from your school okay and then lastly we have the activities update so this is Molly's slide but sadly she's not here with us so I'll kind of read it off but for cross country I'm really excited about this one um the girls won their conference and it was the first time they've done that since 2012 and then menen youngberg she broke the school School record um I think it was over 19 minutes before and I think it was her record but she broke it and now it's 18853 and that's 3 miles so that's a long time to run and then the boys had several personal records and season best and then for football um they had a lot of very close games over the past couple of weeks and they won our homecoming game which was super fun and then the student body and the band we always have the biggest student section and we all love supporting our football team so it it's a fun way to build a community within the students and then tennis um completed their season and then they played second place at sections and then they went to Grand Forks for sections and then volleyball they don't have a ton of wins but they are focused on growth because they lost a lot of seniors last year and they're they're competing in sections this week and then swimming and Diving we had our JV conference and the JV girls did really really well we got a lot of like personal records and team best and then um The Varsity athletes just had their true team sections and then we have conference this Saturday in Becker and little f is hosting at Becker for conference and that's kind of all for the activities good yeah and then that's it guys have questions for them okay my I do have one question all right so the Lums I mean I know you kind of do those every year right stuff so how effective are they I mean I mean I know you talked about somebody being famous or whatever but I mean do you feel like kids pay attention or are they just like H I just got to sit here for a while for me I do feel like people were paying attention because I didn't see like es especially if you walk in and they're starting off with a song or like if you walk in and it seems like there it's actually for a reason then I feel like people kind of settle down and stuff and I did see a few people telling people next to I'm like shh put your pH like I've seen people actually paying attention and it's unfortunate that it has to be because someone is like well known or whatever but I did see a lot of people pay way more attention because of the fact that she was on america. so you thought it was because she was more famous not necessarily even the message it was who the person was yeah and that's unfortunate but I feel that was the case and even with people that I know from classes that like tend to just do their own thing and stuff even they were paying attention even they were singing the songs so I feel like that is kind of important like if you do feel you want to get a message across maybe that's a way to do it m thank you good anybody else all right thanks girls I will'll invite Christy up to give us a c update I there's no way I can read that from here I have terrible Vision but I did bring my own yeah I did bring my own um you want you want me to go through that other piece at all or just the the PowerPoint um so the first thing I think I gave to Kelly for you guys to have yeah just kind of an overall like how's this year going um we had 40 new students enrolled this year and as you can see coming from all over I always say cast kind of a 60 mile wide net um radius of 60 mies and we'll pull kids from just about anywhere um 22 of those 40 students were little fall students that were in danger of not graduating on time or just were in need of a different learning environment altogether um to find success currently we have 135 students enrolled um 11 students are our I shouldn't call them guinea pigs our our trial run um hybrid approach so what we've talked about one of the the the benefits of our program being on campus is that we can help the high school with identifying students that are at risk of not graduating and the terms I like to use is I like to say I want to catch them before they fall um if they're in a math class and it's 3 weeks in and that math teacher can tell he's just struggling um they can call me they can get in contact with the Student Center or Mr borgi or Mr gu and we can get the wheels going to get that student enrolled in our hybrid program where instead of going to second hour algebra they come to second hour to our program where they can work one-on-one in a smaller environment and and earn that same credit just in a different learning environment because they maybe have some gaps that that math teacher can't fill in with 28 other kids in the room um so far so good I would say of the 11 it's a it's a pretty 50/50 split all 11 are making progress It's just that 50% of them are probably going a little quicker than the other 50% but all in all I'd say it's going well um much more uh in the extended day program that's our credit recovery program that's Tuesdays and Wednesday nights from 3:15 to 5:15 um and to have 17 enrolled already before mea break was pretty tremendous um so very excited that there's it's just right down the hall so they don't have to drive across town and get lost on the way um they can just be right there and then we have 107 full-time enrolled students um I see uh that number will change in the coming days we have some students that um unfortunately this is not a good fit for them and we need to change that and help them find a a better fit and then at quarter time and semester time we always see a little bit of a Rise um with students that are are starting to fall behind and again if we can catch them in their junior year and help them get back on track for their senior year as far as how it's going the issues that we have is a little bit of wandering around when using the bathroom a couple of the kids that are from Little Falls want to wander down to the lunchroom to see old friends or to go talk to their boyfriend or girlfriend and we knew that that was probably going to happen um they're on the other side of the wall I I can't can't see them nor are we going to escort them to the bathroom um but it's just it's a handful of kids it's nothing major and and most of them just take a little corrective action and then they're back on track um parking the kids are struggling with parallel parking on a curve on the left um it's it it we maybe need to have an elective credit on how to do that I don't know but um it's it they are utilizing the Horseshoe and they are utilizing the gravel lot across the way we'll see what December brings um if if they don't start running a little shuttle to get back over to the door because it's a bit of a walk but they're doing all right with it the only thing I and I have to talk to my my team about is we don't have a front view we don't have a view of the front door or the entrance and security wise that is a little bit of a concern to me when we were in this location I could see the whole parking lot I could see the comings and goings all the time of kids um and we had one incident the other day that was two students in an argument was starting to escalate thank one of the students said I'm just going to go get Christie I came outside diffused the situation got the kids separated into different areas no nothing but words was were exchanged so it was no big deal but um if they know that some I I feel like some of those behaviors might be happening because they know nobody can see them um and some of that that time kind of it it just could Fester some bad behaviors that we don't want to have so hopefully we can get something figured out there um as far as successes go our new staff Sarah and Amy wetstein um our math teacher and our secretary amazing perfect they have fit right in um and are great additions to our family the hybrid students like I said are for the most part doing amazing the kids seem to really enjoy the space I think what started off is a lot of anxiety and trepidation about that space being part of the high school um has really turned into this is our area um when we go down to get our lunch we're able to go down and get breakfast and lunch after the high school students have gone to class so they feel safe going down there and not being in the chaos of everything um but it's funny when they're down there getting the lunch and the bell rings they all kind of look at each other like oh no they're all coming and it's going to fill up and I we got to get our stuff and go and um but they enjoy that Commons area that you'll see in the PowerPoint presentation um and just having more room when we were uh in our old building we call it the North the building on the North side um it was it was pretty crammed in those classrooms and you'll see here in the PowerPoint presentation that it's a little bit better so any questions on that part so far so you're happy with it um yes I would say I would say overall yeah um it it's it's going well I think there's some Kinks to be worked out as we go through the year um but nothing that I don't think is fixable or or things that we can't overcome for sure um so this is our sign that they um I swear it's the same sign that was out here that they just cut the address off maybe it's a new sign but um it's right right on the side of where the media center is located on our we call it the East Wing um The West Wing is down where the main office is and we're over on the east Wing So that nice big sign really helps direct people as to where to go when they come in on the Horseshoe entrance um we have some nice signage too it's really easy to tell people you know take a left at the middle school and when you come around the curved you'll see the purple signs that say CC entrance um and then we've got that nice one in the kind of the yard area to direct them down that nice new sidewalk that goes right there um there I I do want to hopefully readdress maybe um reserving some visitor parking for some of the um people that we have coming because in the coming months we'll have hopefully Doug dolberg will come back and give another Financial presentation the kids love that one um but just when we have you know the asab guy um those types of people come out for that kind of stuff it'd be nice if they had a spot up front um but otherwise that's that's kind of the front entrance and it's I think the kids liked having their own sign it made them feel like this was their space too little things like that so uh that door was cut into the wall and um everybody that comes through there goes I don't remember there being a door here and I said cuz there wasn't they cut that in um but the the table just to the left of the door that's where our students sign in on a on a Google form on a Chromebook um and that's how we keep attendance and know who's there on the right hand side is um something that I got from a school auction in St Cloud um because we don't allow backpacks and purses into the classrooms it's just a lot of clutter and so the kids all keep their backpacks and purses uh right up front and then the next one that's my office um whenever you need to find me I stand I'm right there by the front door with my standing desk uh I've always liked being there to see the kids when they first come in it's nice to have an extra set of eyes to see if they had a rough night or and they are they in bad shape and we maybe need to go talk before they get ready to go to a classroom or if I need to catch them because we've got paperwork to fill out so that's my area um just my area to the left is the new bottle filler station that they were able to put in which has been awesome when the kids bring water bottles otherwise if you come in and you see a bunch of red Solo cups I promise it is just for the water and they've got their names on them and they keep reusing them and that's great but there's like 14 water like red Solo cups on a table and it's driving me a little bit nuts um to the left that is a door that you'll see what that room is here in a second and then to the left of that is Amy uh wet Stein's area there um the head SEC our head secretary um and she like I say she's just doing amazing and getting to know the kids and the kids are getting a little bit more comfortable with her um you know that they're comfortable when they ask to borrow her makeup mirror so they can fix their eyeliner so um this is my actual office question mark it's the it's kind of the place where our immediate files are at and our office supplies and things and then I set up a little table there because I have an orientation meeting with all new students this this is also worked out to be nice to talk to students one-on-one when we need some privacy because it is a very open space as you saw we took out some walls um and that's great but I don't have like a private area um again one of my things I want to hopefully talk to somebody about is that window I like being able to see out to the commons area when I'm meeting with families because if I need to grab a kid or talk to somebody I can see them but I don't like that everybody can see me um and if I'm having a student that for instance one that was in there the other day that was having a hard time I'd like to get something like those window clings where I can see out but they can't see in um even if it was just on the bottom half of it or something uh but again a very minor problem that I think has a pretty quick solution um all the classrooms are kind of identical so this is what the math classroom looks like the teachers have made it their own these were tables and chairs that we purchased with our Co dollars um years ago and the kids put them all together and uh set them up in the in our old location but we've got tall tables we've got short tables um and then check's room when you get to the social room he's even put some on bed risers and you literally have to stand at those tables because they're they're so tall but some of the kids like them yeah that one there um they and then the high school said we could have some of their chairs from the lunchroom because they didn't uh need all of them in there but they all have multiple seating options for everybody everybody got two whiteboards and a television um everybody has a nice window so we can get some fresh air in there um and nice sunlight I think the next one's the English room and much similar and then the science room um and I like that our one student in the corner behind the filing cabinet he's on a bouncy chair like a exercise ball nobody at any table anywhere but he wanted to go sit on his bouncy ball in the corner so that kind of sums up my Monday um because that's pretty much what I wanted to do halfway through the day um students common area where those chairs are on the left that was all walled in and was another office and so it really opened up that space I can view that's pretty much my view from my desk um I can see that space I can see what the kids are working on um the two doors on either side of the chalkboard are what we use to go out to the bathrooms um and so again I can kind of see who's coming and going um and then the other picture is just a view from across the way there and again all that furniture minus the black chairs those are really old but the other ones um all purchased with our Co dollars years ago so we didn't have to buy anything new there is a foodball table in there um and oddly enough the kids like it but I got that for pretty cheap on the buy and sell and uh the kids were enjoyed it during summer school so I said we would keep it and they play it after school or before school starts while they're eating their breakfast staff lunchroom um it's a nice big space I anticipate using it too for some of our seminars and our guest speakers to come in because it's it can be a quieter space that's got a door and we can close it you still got the TV that you can connect wirelessly to we did that the other day for our professional development with Morrison County um and it's nice too because the two windows we can see out there they can see us so they know that we're we're there um but there is kind of some sound barrier there so they don't hear our conversations and thankfully I don't hear all of their conversations either and then our outdoor space which um is currently on hold um because the front the one on the right hand side with the benches that's a really nice area for kids to sit and wait for their rides because again we don't have that view um and that's where it's going to get interesting in the winter time and kids are probably just going have to rely on cell phone communication kids that wait for a ride before could just look right outside and see their ride coming now they have no idea when they're coming so they can if there's a Windbreak this will be nice for them I have seen a lot of kids out here at lunch just sitting outside eating their lunch on the bench and enjoying the weather because it has been a beautiful fall um The Outdoor Learning area on the left each one of those tables again this was all Co dollars from on ago but um they're in front of each classroom there's four classrooms and each classroom has a table so if a student wants to sit outside and enjoy the day um they sure can um right now we just have it on hold because we we had some confusion about what outdoor time should be if it should be socialization or if it should be productive work so maybe next week oh and this whole presentation was created by my daughter in fifth grade um and then I was obviously the presenter nice well done un press yeah thank she's maybe a little embarrassed I didn't know that she made one last year on pugs and I was blown away so I said hey why don't you take your tablet and go take pictures of everything so she took all the pictures and and put them on there I just tweaked The Bold and the centering very nice so yeah any questions about anything has most of the rest of the high school staff been through your airspace check it out so during um inservice week I asked yorgi to email the uh department heads and schedule a time to come down individually in their department so that way the math department could come down and meet with myself and Sarah to talk about what the math department looks like and they could see the rest of the space too and the same thing for social and English and science um the science department of course did not make an appointment they just come whenever they feel like it um but that's our science department we love them and uh it was it was overwhelmingly positive the science department was was right there to say if you want to do some Hands-On Labs just set up a time that one of those lab rooms is open and you guys can bring the kids in and do some dissections um the the art Department music technology that that North wi um was also first ones to say you know how can we connect you when we go on a field trip can we take your kids and I said absolutely if they're there and vice versa um I know last year we took a couple high school kids on our tours to try to motivate them to to get over that hump to graduate um so yeah English Department same thing uh was right there with an it's nice too because everybody's been around for a long time everybody kind of knows everybody so connections were made pretty quickly um social Department was kind of a little too busy and um and Scattered uh I think with sports and things too so we didn't get a whole lot of time with them but um but yeah they were all able to come down during that inservice week and and make some solid connections and then we participate with some of our professional development we do participate with the high school some of it we do on our own cuz I would have assume when you were out here that wasn't able to happen that's right no um the only thing when we were out here it would be the occasional phone call of a student that um was having uh had had a head trauma and couldn't use a laptop and so they needed paper and pencil materials so can we borrow your geography curriculum sure um or a kid that was maybe in a in a lockdown situation and was not allowed in the classrooms at the time can we borrow your math and English curriculum so that they're not losing credits while they're taking care of this problem sure um but that was rare the hybrid situation we had one student years ago um he was the student that painted my Elvis Presley picture that hangs in the background um he was one student that came out here religiously every day from 8 to 10:00 and his mom brought him his mom took him back and that helped him to graduate on time the fact that we've got 11 kids trying that now and hopefully more as the year goes on and we're working together to identify those atrisk kids that I'm very excited for that and I'm I'm really hoping that that goes well for our program what's been the feedback from the kids for the most part for the most part um positive um they're really excited during fied we're able to offer fied four days a week instead of three um and during fied is we utilize the gym because that's during the prep hour of the high school fied except for when they have weird schedules but we make it work um so the fact that they can they can use the weight room and the treadmills they love that um they are excited to have an actual like the numbers are growing with those that go down and get food um which I'm excited about cuz I always worry about that with our kids they come in and I'm not hungry then when I'm like hey it's biscuits and gravy or like on Fridays if they get there early they know that they can go down with me at 7:30 and we can go get a breakfast sandwich cuz that's that's the best one Friday morning if you're getting breakfast that's am I wrong I mean it's a great breakfast sandwich which so that that that feedback has been great A lot of them have actually said too that having us all in one space because even when we were at St Francis when I came here 15 years ago we were all in the same hallway but we doors closed for fire safety reasons and things so we weren't in the same space and when we were out here I was in this building and all my kiddos were in the other building and there was always that distance of well Christie's over there so they won't notice if I go to the bathroom four times this morning versus now they have to all walk past me to go to the bathroom and so um a lot of kids have liked that cuz the the classrooms are quieter they're more focused um so yeah that's been good to see MH how about conversely any negatives yeah um the only negatives I would say oddly enough are with the new students um because I think the new students when they came over thought that maybe there was going to be a different set of rules and there's not um you still have the number one rule CC always has been always will be respect and we we don't ask it we demand it and and we show respect to the students and they show us respect back and when that's not precipated that's where we have issues and I think that those kids that are new that are coming in this year they're learning that lesson slowly um but they think that because they were a high school student they can wander um because they were a high school student they can go down and and talk to whoever in the main office and I'm like anything beyond the bathrooms requires a staff um escort if you will um but no I haven't I the any of the other kids I think the only thing that they have said is the parking that's been about the only complaint is this is tough I can't park like that and I said well you can always park across the street in the big gravel lot and yeah but that gets full sometimes yeah some days we do have I mean there was one day we have we had I think 78 kids um we had 58 of them in the morning and and then those those 58 were gone and by lunch and then another 20 some came in in the afternoon so in the morning it was tight um but uh that's just I said well you guys just got to spread it out we we are open 12:30 to 5:15 so come in the afternoon mhm thanks yeah anybody else okay thank you thank you guys thanks Christie you all right we're g to move on to agenda item number 11 the superintendent report before Christy sneaks out of here I do want want to say to her again thank you Christie for managing this transition I know it wasn't easy change is difficult but you have really uh done an exceptional job of making that program best for your students and having had the opportunity to walk through that space you've made it really uh I think just a great place for kids and staff so thank you you and it's open to anybody that wants to come by and and check it out like I always say our our door is always open from 7:30 to 3:30 um and then it locks thankfully um and we just got a new doorbell so you can hit the doorbell and then we know you're here and we can buz you in to the secure entrance so come by anytime thanks Christie you also want to say thank you board members for taking the time to read those flyer Pride cards and obviously Kudos and shout outs to the staff that receive them but I do want to say thank you for the staff that take the time to fill them out I think that's pretty important one more shout out for our little Falls Chamber of Commerce employees of the month if you remember in September the high school social worker Becky Abbott was the employee of the month and then October's still a few days left to celebrate chrisma jerus the head custodian at Lincoln Elementary and thanks to perva and her staff at the chamber for having a program like that where we can recognize our staff this is uh Farm to school week what was the main item at lunch today I have I pack my I also bring my own L pork carnitas oh wow uh pulled pork essentially with a Mexican twist each each day this week um Mary Bartlett and her staff are serving the pork carnitas in each of our schools I was going to say I thought that was Thursday this week depends on what school they're at pop in all right uh Kevin Jordan was here earlier I want to give a shout out to flyer Fest which is a fundraiser that the activi office is putting together with the help of Fab but it's a way for them to narrow the Gap with their budget to be able to keep some of the programs they have going some of the coaches some of the uniforms they purchase I'm really thankful that they've taken the time to do that and it seems like we've had a good response from our business partners and parents want to do a shout out welcome to Roxy jolinsky our new school district nurse uh excited to have her on board last week and then also just found out today that we were able to hire a new fourth grade teacher at Lindberg Elementry to reduce class sizes so Mr ederton is going to work closely with the fourth grade team and families to add that six section at limberg so thank you board members for allowing us to do that Transportation changes and transition continue to move forward and really appreciate everyone's patience uh especially thank you to Palmer and stro bus companies and to our activities office for taking on the management of our three School District Vehicles this week I know board members you have a tour tonight of our child care little Flyers child care center and then we are offering a business partner Tour on Wednesday at 11:00 and we have about I think 16 to 20 people that are signed up to be a part of that so far would like actually Chris and Mark just have a quick uh couple of updates and with Chris our business manager sharing a budget and audit update for you folks um so about two weeks ago we had our independent CPA firm in our office conducting field workor uh which which basically means we're we're getting close to finalizing our fiscal year 24 audit I'm just going to give you a high level uh where we're ending up in the general fund these are preliminary numbers they could change a little bit but I don't anticipate significant changes um so the big one our unassigned fund balance is looking like it's going to end at 3.8% which is 1% higher than the prior year that is roughly $115,000 increase to our unassigned fund balance um for reference our fiscal year 24 revised budget was projecting our unassigned fund balance to end with a balance of 2.62% so our budget did perform better uh looking at the budget more specifically um budget actuals our budgeted deficit was $85,000 um our actuals is looking like our deficit will be $215,000 so about $590,000 in positive movement which is roughly about 2% when you compare our budgeted numbers to what actually happened so overall um it's a good sign our budget did what we wanted it to do overall the financial position of the district really didn't have any changes thank you Chris and Chris is that is there anything to significantly attribute that to other than just the standard kind of reduction in expenses or more students or as far as like the change from budget right right just uh so a lot of that's on the revenue side okay I typically like to do 20 to 30 students budget less 20 to 30 students than what yeah actually have what we're going to think we're going to get and that's you know 300,000 of that um overall I I budgeted a little high for salaries and benefits due to it being a negotiations year um and that came in lower than actuals nothing nothing that CAU my eyes a big ticket item okay thank you Mr deal has shifted to the front table for an update about an energy Grant yeah I thanks for letting me come up and speak about this so uh for about the past year and a half or so we've been working with the Region 5 Development Corporation to uh try to find some Grant resources that could help us migrate all of our florescent lights to LED lights and um a couple weeks ago we were were notified that uh so we did apply for a grant as a subgrantee through Region 5 with the US Department of energy and we found out that we will be receiving a half a million dollar Grant from the US Department of energy to help with the shift from uh fluorescent light fixtures to LED light fixtures so we're still early on I don't I don't know all of the parameters in the rules around that um Region 5 is actually still negotiating with the Department of energy they're trying to get even more money but we do know that our half a million dollars is committed at this point and so we'll be continuing to work with them to get the rules figured out and understand exactly when the money will be available and when we can start working to replace light fixtures so that's good news Mark do you know about like will that half a million cover our district or is there is it going to only cover a couple buildings no the far will that money go yeah that's a really great question that half a million is going to be it very well should cover the entire District yeah because of some of the work that we've already done to replace light fixtures like this room and we redid this room um and we've we've taken on a lot of the big spaces like the gyms mhm uh it's it very likely will cover it now you have to think about this a little bit different too because so we're going to get this half a million dollars to do this right but then Minnesota power is going to give us rebates on top of that so that half a million dollars actually becomes more down the road but we don't know exactly what that number is going to be yet because we don't have the fixtures we don't know exactly what the rebates will be but it so that number will grow mhm um which will be really cool but then long term you know the amount of energy savings that we will see will certainly drive down our electrical utility costs so it's a win-win for us yes it's a really really good news thank you for applying well we have to thank the folks at region five because all we did was say yes we will we will like to some gr it pretty much Doug it's fre I know I spoke to Cheryl Hill and she said people would be surprised how much money is out there but to go through the paperwork they think I don't want to do that well and they have the gr writers and so that you know that's the win for us and all this neither Chris nor I would have been able to have taken that on by ourselves but with their help we certainly can good just one couple other items really quick um I am creating with the help of Mark deal and Chris muic a finance and facility task force and this task force will include staff board members and other stakeholders I'm looking at about a group of 30 people that will help us address action items within the Strategic plan under finance and Facilities I feel like we've done some things and you you heard a great example from Mark tonight with a $500,000 Grant to improve our facilities um I think we're positioned well with the solar garden grant that I think will be a a good thing too to to help us save money but to really look closely at from the financial side of our district long-term with our declining enrollment what that looks like as well as what the facility needs are to bring a recommendation to you folks as a board and then lastly in front of you you have a document that summarizes some of the progress within our strategic plan and I won't read that to you but it's broken down by each of the four areas priority areas within our plan and you'll see within teaching and learning seeing some improvements in student achievement based on MCA scores curriculum implementation or transport ation Academy grade level banding CC relocation to the high school finance and Facilities the reductions we've made over the past couple of years savings through grade level banding moving to a self insurance insured health insurance plan I listed number 10 that creation of a finance and facility task force not as many items under wellness and mental health priority 3 but some pretty important things going on there and then with priority area four Communications and marketing you see the little fly Flyers Child Care Center flyer Pride cards newsletters changes to our open houses and conferences these wonderful people to my left are student representatives and other items that's all I have tonight very good move on to new business and item number 12.1 is the little Little Falls Flyers child care center updates so board members in your packet you have both the child care center policies as well as the little Flyers handbook and Kayla is here tonight to field any questions but Kayla has put in countless hours with with her team not a large team Kayla's team to uh work closely with a couple organizations one being first children's Financial who does a lot of work with daycare centers and daycare providers to put important policies together she's worked closely with the Minnesota Department of Health through lure and then working closely with other child care centers around the state that work in school districts to be able to make sure that we're dotting our eyes and crossing our tees and Kayla maybe just real quick where do you where do we stand in the whole licensing process right now our license is at stage two so our um to complete stage two we have to start hiring staff the hiring and the um de staff development is stage two so once that is in the beginning process I will be able to share that with our lenser um lenser he'll come up to us then after that which will be kind of like okay go time and then he will be able to walk through the building um it's ready and filled with all of our great things um to kind of grant us that license after so there's three stages we're in stage two right now you'll notice in the handbook that it covers quite a bit of information including the fee structure which is highlighted on page seven and it shows the rates for infants Toddlers and preschool children full-time part-time and we've spent a lot of time tweaking those numbers I know we had a um we asked Sharon Doug and Kelsey to help us with some of these discussions and look at the fee structures we've compared ourselves to what others are doing around this area in the state and feel like this is a good landing spot and with your approval that will give us the ability to share this with families who are ready ready to register Kayla how many inquiries have you had so far yeah we have 16 pending contracts right now um so those are people that haven't seen this yet um but they are interested in um enrolling in little Flyers so 16 of those I broke it down today we have six infants five todders and five preschoolers just at the age that we're um that they're enrolling but my plan is once this is uh reviewed and approved that I will make direct phone calls to each of those families I'll set up those um meetings with to go through this um the policy handbook really is what licensing needs it is everything it's dry but it's all the rules that we have to have the parent handbook is a little more um what are how are we going to handle situations at little Flyers so I think it's important to sit down with each of those families to explain that and then from there we can decide if they're still interested in and want to approve their contract for child care also a significant amount of work is we've we've looked to establish the salary ranges for the lead teacher assistant teacher and aid aid positions that exist within the the program and those positions are not part of a Union within our district they'll be separate contracts with through our community ed office and that'll be into the next big step as well as we move this forward so looking for your approval for these two documents to start that process for us all right one question I have how do our rates compare with the local are we higher lower right in the middle I mean equal to them or we're a little bit higher um we received some data from first children's Finance to say um for us to receive some extra funding um down the road we have to be in a in a a range and so our first um data that we gave them the rates they they came back to us and said you know what they're pretty low and when we get the new data you're you're you want your rates in that area and so um we raised ours a little bit in local we are a little bit higher um just knowing that from day one we've said we don't want to be competition for for other local Child Care um so we are our rates are a little bit higher are you getting any inquiries about staff I have actually um I have for sure um six people that are kind of on my list I have a list of people that are looking for child care and then a people that are looking for working um the thing with child care is you have to have certain credentials to be maybe a Lead Teacher or an assistant teacher you're not necessarily going to school to get your Bachelor for you know whatever but there are requirements um so there's a lot of things out there that we can start people as a child care Aid and then they can work towards being assistant and then work teacher so I have for sure six people that I've been back and forth with um over the last couple months of they're showing interest so that is a plus for me that's six is better than zero so how many what number Staff are you looking for we're going to need probably 15 to 18 staff just kind of on a rotation of um we have to have so many lead teachers so many assistant teachers and so many um um AIDS and it's going to really depend on our enrollment what does that look like on day one we won't need that on day one um but over time as we fill we will need that thank you y good questions anybody else all right then I need a motion to approve the LI Falls Flyers Child Care Center handbook and policies Some Mo a second I'll second all right all those in favor say I I I all those opposed okay it passes um item number 12.3 um was the September 16th closed meeting summary I was supposed to prepare something to say for this and I did not but basically the school board um met on September 16th in a closed meeting to discuss um and evaluate the superintendent and so that that was done and then um Sharon and Doug and I nope Sharon and I met with Mr Johnson and went over that evaluation and that's what happened at the closed meeting um item 12.4 is the approval of October 2024 Lane changes this is standard operating procedures um and Kelly we do this twice a year correct so asking your approval as we see more and more staff rece going after credits and and broadening their professional development and we ask your approval of these Lane changes I'll make a motion to accept the lane changes for 2024 okay second thank you Dan is before we vote is is this kind of standard twice a year yep when's the other month February February y all right any other discussion okay bring it to a vote all those in favor say I I all those opposed passes item 12.5 resolution for the Minnesota State High School league Foundation Grant application again a standard approval by the board this allows us to receive based on our free and reduced lunch count Grant dollars from the Minnesota State High School league which we use to cover registration fees of students that can't afford it okay whereas the Minnesota State High School league Foundation was formed to provide support for Minnesota's High School youth to participate in athletics and Fine Arts whereas the governing board of education Independent School District 482 recognizes the value of student participation in extracurricular activities and whereas the Minnesota State High School league Foundation is offering grants and fun to assist schools in recognizing supp for promoting and funding extracurricular participation by high school students in athletic and finer programs therefore be it resolved that the governing board of education Independent School District 482 supports the School's application to the Minnesota State High School league foundation for a form a grant to offset Student Activity fees we're going to do a second second thank you Mark and a roll call vote Julie yes Mark yes Dan yes um Sharon yes Doug yep myself yes we will move on to old and unfinished business and we have a solar for schools resolution so in early October ideal energy who has been working with the school district for the solar for schools Grant project which is through the the Minnesota Department of Commerce received notification that little fall Falls was eligible to apply for the solar for schools Grant which is a big deal that we've we've been selected and can do that the resolution that's in your packet board members is essentially an agreement to continue our work and engagement with ideal energy the work that they have to do now moving forward is significant and if the district's response is we don't want to go after the solar for schools Grant we don't want ideal to have to spend a lot of time on Little Falls and be able to move that forward I know one of the questions that that a number of you had was just how our other school districts doing with their solar for schools grants and Mark and I talked to a few school districts I spoke to Proctor Maple Lake Lakeville and Bloomington and the common theme with all of these school districts are really positive it's number one ideal energy is easy to work with number two they really the districts really appreciate the curriculum component that comes with the school solar for schools Grant um they I did not request specific data from these school districts regarding their their electric bills but all of them report that they are seeing benefits certainly not the benefits they look forward to seeing when the lease payment is over but definitely uh in a positive situation with what they're paying versus what the benefits are to their energy bills so again this resolution secures our partnership with ideal and moving forward with the solar for schools Grant okay does anybody have questions about so this is just to move forward with the grant we still don't know that we if we've been approved for it or not correct technically correct yes so in the event that they we pass this um if for some reason it comes back we don't get approved for the grant are we what kind of financial hit are we looking at from them doing all this work CU like you said they got a lot of work to do from here to kind of keep it moving forward what kind of a are we going to have a Financial Risk risk and hit if we approve them to go through this and what what might that be do we know the $384,000 has been reserved for Lo Falls so the Department of Commerce has basically said you're going to receive the grant now you just got to do all this paperwork okay to get the money that's that's where we're at okay so is there a r is there a risk to us if we're going to if we want to is good question were all the schools you checked with did they lease theirs also mhm okay anybody else okay here we go whereas the Little Falls Community Schools recognizes the importance of sub sustainability Energy Efficiency environmental stewardship and cost Savings in its operations and facilities and whereas the district has completed the solar for schools Readiness assessment demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of incorporating solar energy at Little Falls High School and whereas the Minnesota Department of Commerce has invited Little Falls Community Schools to submit a full Grant application for the solar for schools program which offers financial support for solar energy projects in public schools and whereas the district seeks a partner with ideal energy to develop and Implement a groundbased solar array at Little Falls High School as part of its commitment to energy sustainability and cost savings and whereas the solar project will contribute to the district's long-term goal of reducing energy costs enhancing educational opportunities for students in renewable energy and fostering environmental responsibility within the community now therefore be it resolved that the Little Falls School the school board of Little Falls Community Schools hereby officially approves the partnership with ideal energy to move forward with the development and in installation of a groundbased solar array at lilf Falls High School and be it further resolved that the district will submit a full Grant application to the Minnesota Department of Commerce under the solar for schools program to secure funding for this project and be it further resolved that the superintendent or their design is authorized to take all necessary actions to move this project forward including finalizing agreements with ideal energy and submitting the Grant application I need a second I'll second and then a roll call vote Julie yes Mark yes um Dan yes um Sharon yes Doug yes and myself yes so that one passes 13.2 is a second review of the policies we can continue reading through all those fun policies policy 618 69 19 613 703 701 71.1 and policy 524 I think the student reps should come next month and each present on one graduation requirements very appropriate all right and then we'll have reports from board members Julie uh yep just something positive to share about Dr Knight they are doing like a bucket filler so the staff recognizes students and positive things they doing throughout the day they've had 425 already this year oh wow so kids are doing great nothing to report uh I got to attend limberg's um I can't even remember what to call it now the all schools event which celebrates the top uh Achievers in different classes in different categories throughout the school and um it was the amount of excitement in the gymnasium was was very high um kids were all very well behaved walking them in they all it was all put on very well and uh got talk a chance to talk with Mr ederton before while holding doors for parents coming in and stuff we had good conversation sounds like uh everything's going really well so great I have nothing to report here um because we like to take credit for all of our alumni and our people that do wonderful things and make the world world better I just like to extend a congratulations to our superintendent who was inducted into Minnesota State University Warhead Hall of Fame for Alber a couple weeks ago oh that's why you went down there then huh that's wonderful congratulations thank you than congratulations you know he was blowing his own horn here so much so anything else Sharon no nope Sharon stole my thunder so well you can add to it next time we'll start with you dog no problem all right if there's nothing else we can move on to adjournment so I need a motion motion to adjourn second and then just to note our tour for those who can make it go over to the Lincoln Elementary Flyers little Flyers child parents it feels like a mouthful Hala all right let's vote so all those in favor say hi all those post until next time do we go to the main door for
