awesome we are here nice job nice job yes thank you thank you you get an A on that one you do easy and laurelai is with us welcome laurelai hello welcome everybody yes so I heard and it's good to be here yes it is it's just good to be here the weather is been nice lately we've had nice weather we've had great things happening in town we've had elections we voting all kinds of you know good stuff good stuff going on that tells us it's spring and Summer's Here the machines are still working out out there that's right the machines are still working down there the machines are still going so as long as they keep digging and pouring we're all set and we have everyone here today on the board so we are starting on time and we have a quum and so that's a good thing didn't say that and I'm going to remind everybody again we D here to the open meeting laws which we do very well at so it's being taking care of ourselves and not overstepping our rounds so can we start with announcements mm board members do you have any announcements only um Marilyn has one I have the uh little food pantry in front of the Baptist Church they're always using if you have anything you know fill it up nothing old though it needs to be it needs to be fresh food um you know not old cans that really need the dump the other thing is um the memory Cafe is the fourth Saturday of this month it is two more weeks and that's growing I yes it is it's growing get people from as far away as lunenberg wow see well it partly it's because some of us go to things in other Chanel we spread the word and so it's grown that's wonderful it's a good thing to be growing yes it is a good Outreach is important and that's a great in fact that someone just told me about Harvard oh and I went to Harvard the other day and it was excellent nice yeah so see that's that's great word spreads that's right great thank you anyone else with an announcement no well I have a couple first of all I would like to officially welcome and congratulate our new Elder and Human Services assistant director well deserved it is well deserved hey l l pictures there I can see you now hi yes so welcome Amy we're so thrilled to have you and she's filling in for lose today she should be doing let's put your work right away so and I'm sure she'll do a great job awesome and I personally would like to thank the cultural Council um they provided us with two great programs in the last month well two months actually one was in in April Ed the wizard a magic show came and it was really really a nice event and nice get together and then on May 1 really also very good Tommy r with a mer musical Journey Through The Years and you know the cultural concept Council I looked it up online because I wanted to be sure I was going to spread the correct word to the people that do watch us and I'm going to read you what it says on the website in the town the C Littleton cultural Council whose members are appointed by the board of Select supports Community cultural projects through its grant program funds are received from the Massachusetts cultural Council whose mission is to promote Excellence access education and diversity in the Arts Humanities and interpretive Sciences in order to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and to contribute to the economic Vitality of our communities and I think we just should thank them they really did a great job for sening you this past couple of months so yeah so so that was one of my announcements and I have another one that um was sent out to us and I forwarded it to all of you I do believe it was from Jame Jim Dugan Dugen yes Our Town Administrator and I just want to be sure that people the public and and they can help people get the word out that there's going to be a Littleton monthly newsletter oh posted on the town's website right wow starting June 1st yes wow June 1st didn't I send that message out to all of you and you didn't no the way you're reacting I didn't I will I got it you got it I got it you're the only one maybe yeah sorry I apologize see I'm not perfect never said I was you're human yes but anyway uh and I will send the message out but you can you can go on after um it starts June 1st we'll be the first edition it's going to be a monthly thing so sometimes the news if it's something coming up it'll be way out there but you know we got to give credit where credit is due they've worked hard to try to get something and some improvement speaking of here he comes yes I know I'm going to watch I'm going to speak to him when he comes in heard his yeah you're ears are bur your name I'm just announcing this whole new newsletter monthly newsletter to the public we just started thank you congratulations thank you and third Thursday starts this it starts this week and this week already third Thursday is starting so there's another announcement so we have fun yeah so if you have any questions you can always call the office and people can help you about the um newsletter and getting information but it's you know over time it's going to take time for them to work out Kinks and things but it's a step in the right direction yes so very exciting news and I think that was it and I apologize to you all for not doing that so I got to make sure I send this out to everybody okay well I'll make an announcement that's not by any means official at this point okay but the um committee for um help Helping Seniors with their taxes oh yeah has been meeting regularly and if you remember in the fall we had uh a lunch and a dinner to promote exemptions for them and a few people did come and fill out applications but we are working now with the selectman and we have a meeting on Wednesday and there's a couple of towns that are using um a different approach that when you get to a certain age and you meet the qualifications you can get um as much as 50% off your taxes w wow W that's a thing but it's something that's going to take a couple of years if it does work because the town's people have to vote it for one thing and um if the exemption is allowed it will cost taxpayers more money the people who are not getting the exemptions are going to have to pay a bigger portion not a lot you know it might be $50 or $100 on your bill that you wouldn't have been paying if this works so we're all together with the assessor's office working hard to see if we can promote it or not promote it and how how it might work so that's in the in the works it's in the works and you never know unless you explore things you don't no no you don't know what can and can't happen that's great news though nice to know that people when you're asked to do something you're doing it so sometimes that doesn't always happen yes all right other announcements or are we all set I just have two quick reminders two quick reminders for me um just since I'm going to be doing Outreach and and all into the director's reports I figure now it's better um with our Spring Fling happening on the 29th it's the typical day of our caregiver support group that we hold so that meeting has been bumped to the week prior so it'll be on the 22nd so caregiver support group on the 22nd and the Spring Fling is on the 29th we look forward to seeing everyone there great it's good to point that out because we do get in habit of things so it's hard to remember when there's a change sometimes and you want to sign up to come and have a a nice meal and dance or at least listen to Mark be it should be fun should be and the music sure will be great because it would be from um I think our gener our our generation Our Generation yeah so any other announcements P we did not have a meeting so that's why we have more announcements we didn't have a meeting last month so okay all right moving on how about the minutes now this these are the minutes from the March 11th meeting and you've had plenty of time because they were sent out yeah that was a little and I apologize by the way to the public give um people were just a little that was a last minute change that we weren't having a meeting we did get it posted and everything but then um the whole um what was it called the the um stars what everybody wanted to see the oh the eclipse thank you I couldn't come up as the right thing but that all came into VI and people wanted to see it and did not want to miss it and right so we ended up canceling the meeting that's right so hopefully okay yes and everybody hopefully did get to see the eclipse so all right so do you have any corrections changes that or anything for the March 11th minutes I I vote to accept the minutes as readed thank you I'll second that so we have Marilyn and Anita thank you do we have any other further discussion if not I'll to entertain OT to or I will go to voting here you go so we'll start with Anita yes answer a yes Susan yes Marilyn yes lorai yes thank you Joe yes thank you John yes and Maran yes and Jean yes and Marge We have a unanimous vote thank you great we can move on we have a busy busy little day here I think we don't have Sandra here and I did not check with her to see if she was coming but I guess she's not so I did notice that um she's I think it's today or that there it's going to be open till I mean this week be open till 4:00 instead of 3:00 all all of the new spring that's true yeah well I will mention because I was going to send her an email and I have not but I will mention it because it's good good way to help get the word out about the thrift shop I had some church business to do last week Thursday and I went to pinard florist in air to do that business and so when I was finishing up and she was making out of the bill that I had to pay for the church she looked at me and she said isn't there a thrift shop in your church can't so I thought s would love to hear that somebody in air was asking about the thrift shop Yeah in our church and I said yes there is you know and told her and so I'm just wanting to get that out there to anybody watching help spread the word for them because you know foot traffic for the thrift shop is so important yeah they have all their spring stuff out now and I did not ask her how she knew of it but I just thanked her and you know said yes but there you go perect that's a good thing so we're going to skip right over to the Friends unless I went to their meeting you were there at their meeting um and Liz was there oh you were there too yes so I don't think we have anything we need to report from that no to them and we'll hear from Sandra later good so our assistant director is on taking care of the director's report yes I can do this all right I'm just going to share the stats there it is all right so some highlights that um Liz wanted me to announce um we had the highest number of event signin in April since 2020 whoa when the uh pandemic hit so wow that's great um another one that she wanted me to note was that in March of 2024 also had the highest number of unduplicated people attending programs so like 300 new people coming in that's amazing a lot more people coming yeah y good thing that building's coming that's all I can say gosh yes yes yes um she wanted me to make an announcement about our newsletter so as I'm sure you have heard our publisher LPI has allowed us to add additional Pages June will be the first expanded newsletter um there is going to be articles might be getting shifted around um as we work to accommodate the different ad spaces so um you're talking about broadcast yes yep I had not heard that you will see the first um the first issue of it being um with the additional Pages wonderful so yeah wow um we have a a new staff on board our driver Steve Hadad he's um going to be one of our new van drivers he's been shadowing Sam and Rich um we share him with Carlile so um but he's coming on to to help us out with our van nice that's nice give him a warm welcome he'll probably see him at if you're a part of the Romeo Club or the Juliet Club so um we received a tread donation for $69548 at the end of April bringing our tread balance to $ 23,5 19129 29 excuse me um that's music to our years it is yep we are in B better Financial shape this year for tread than we were at this time last year great we are that's important yes so those are my announcements from Liz those are big announcements true they all straight ones great okay so we I usually go on and we usually vote to accept both reports are you doing the Outreach coordinators report to um there really wasn't too much to really announce for outreach this month um the one thing I do want to note is that we are coming into the season where the tread applications are going to be coming out um in previous years and I I still do this so I keep track of the folks that have expressed interest over the year and I add it to my list and I I mail out the application with a letter explaining it to everybody um I just I encourage people to review the letter review the application if you need help completing that application contact Alicia and myself and we're happy to help you with that process so um the deadline for those submissions is September 30th anything after that date will not be accepted so it's a good thing that you are mentioning it and and then to follow up on that yeah when they are you sending them this year down to the assessor's office again to review the um tax deferral that we did last year we added that as part of the application process yeah so we'll we'll continue doing that um because it's good for people to explore all of the options that they're eligible for because those are through the state if I'm not mistaken yeah and the tax referral is really a good program because you can give you can defer all your taxes for the year any portion of your taxes for the year and it's your payback is only 1% and if you defer this year you don't have to defer next year or the year after you can defer all this year and part next year whatever you want once your application is in and you could pay it back at any time but if you don't it's paid back at the time that you sell your house or die one or the other so it's there's not enough people in town that are applying for it because it is such a good benefit to keep you in your house like if you need a new roof you defer your taxes this year you pay for your roof and it's at 1% and if you never defer again that's 1% of $5,000 I mean it's nothing to if you sold your house you'd get it back times you know it's an awesome program and we're one of the only towns that do 1% normally the percent to pay back is much higher so it will be more it's an amazing program and more people need to be aware of it and get involved in it we'll probably have that on the agenda as a news thing for the next couple a few months to keep the word out there for sure and if I forget please remind me well and I know if they go down to the assessor's office it will be explained to them there too yeah so it's good and hey maybe we can get this into the newsletter the to it's going to be starting in June and then July know so get a word out that way too yes okay thank you Amy and do highlights again yeah yep okay any other questions for Amy great job thank you everyone ever so much so I will entertain a motion to accept the director's report and the um Outreach report so moved thank you Susan Susan was um the first and who second did that Marilyn thank you okay do we have any further discussion if not we're ready to vote Anita yes yes Susan yes uh Marilyn yes Laura L yes thank you Joe yes John pachy yes and marann yes and Jean yes and Marge we have another unanimous vote thank you okay we're moving right along that's good because we got a lot to do here so did Liz I'm sure she did she's very efficient did she give you a little update on the senior center for us yes I do all my highlights right here um so um if you've been attending um the programs in the multi-purpose REM you've seen the line of chairs that are along the wall there um those are all the different styles of chairs that we can choose from so um we've been receiving feedback from folks and so some chairs are being phased out and new ones are being brought in for everyone to to put some input in on so if feel free to sit down give them a try let us know the pros and cons to any particular ones you sit in and we will make note of it so someone's watching and wants to participate in that they can just come in mhm and go to the multi-purpose room they go to the multi-purpose and you'll see the chairs that look strange they're not the folding chairs that are just usually around in there those are the chairs they need to look at and then do they go upstairs to your office and convey their desire you know what they think is the best um yeah they can do that or they can call us with their with their feedback um whichever is easier yeah yeah some way of describing the chair I mean they're different some of them postered some of not some you know whatever it is important to note that the the Fabrics that you're seeing on there are not the Fabrics that were're we getting those are it's just for you to try the style of the chair so the the prints and patterns are going to be different yeah last week when I was at um flexed stretch people said this is the one we're buying and this is the one oh I know yeah and I said wait a minute that doesn't make a bit of sense to to me if the board doesn't hasn't even had a chance to talk about it cuz we should at least know something oh no it's been it's well people make assumptions all the time you know that yeah but I just want you to be aware that you know some people are making assumptions yeah and I wasn't sure whether it was true or false from the people that I heard it from well yeah unless you hear it if you hear it officially from the offis my suggestion is you know realize that it's probably I wasn't sure and that's why I brought it up that's good because actually I go to that group too most of the time yeah you weren't able there that day but I it's unbelievable the rumors that are started in that group about all kinds of yes in that group for sure members people that go to that group and they know what I'm talking about it's terrible awful a lot of chitchat takes yeah anything that you hear here while you're exercising don't believe it don't believe it always go to the reliable source and ask they must not be exercising they pay us get there very early before it starts usually it's just amazing to me I I I'm learning to just keep my mouth shut because if I say something it just seems as though you know what it goes somewhere if you say it's blue then it'll come out that it's red yes is there a plan to put as a suggestion numbers or letters on the chairs that's so if you go in and you say oh I like the blue one and there's three blue ones which one there is a lot of blue so I think if you put numbers on them if we could put a number and what it what room it's going to be used in oh yeah because Maran and I looked at them and we thought well how are we supposed to know where it's going to go them and so we went up and we talked with Liz and Liz came down with us and explained to us would go these chairs are for this room these chairs are for this room and they made so much more sense so if we could just number them and what room for example there's one chair in particular I heard several people comment the day I was there yeah when they first came in I happened to be there and they were saying that looks like an office waiting waiting chair you in an office and so come to find out sure enough they were for the Outreach office that was the anticipated use for those chair and they would be totally appropriate in correct so and that's a good example I think of what you're saying yeah we hated to disturb Liz but we were like yeah what are we looking at and where are they going that's a great thing I'm glad you brought that up I was I sat in them looking just for the ones that I could put my feet on the floor that's right it was only somebody else that's true was only one and I thought I won't vote for any of them couldn't put your feet down the others I had to sit way in the front in order couldn't lean back seat is too defort the seat too deep the seat's Deep too deep yeah and I said our OT wants to give her opinion oh I'm Adam and that's one thing I've been on Liz's back all along she and I have I've been very vocal about yeah I have been too so yeah she's got that message that's why she's opening it up and trying to get as much involvement she asked and asked Caroline for her opinion she's a PT so yeah so she's going to Great Links to get good input that's for sure she's looking at she's looking at the professionals and getting their opinion as well not just what the citizens think they'd like she's looking at it from a standpoint of what's the benefit and how is the best yeah like the library chairs that are awful when we've had to go over there for exercise ask for Worse chairs unfortunately it's just sorry Jean Jean had nothing to do with it I mean it's just you know she's aware it's just a good example of the the importance of it that's all yeah so and so yes but and all the effort's going to be worth it that's for sure making sure everybody just like everything else in that building goes but anyway um so there is more information here about um billiard tables so we they're being discussed with a small group of avid iard players in town good um specs are being reviewed and feedback is being provided by these local experts we are aiming to have tournament size regulation tables the senior billiard league has contacted us to weigh in as well wonderful that's very great that's fun yes so anybody that plays yeah that's great pool is a lot of fun it's a lot you know I recall when we were going visiting we would be go to facilities fairly new that had brard rooms and the people the men in there playing there mostly men but you know it was amazing how active that the women the women at gron be no we've got that to every week so you can't have it to the men yeah yeah it's a popular thing it's very become very popular for amongst the women and I've heard also I hate to mention this but I've heard that um pickle Ball's got a competition there's a new sport come out competing with pickle ball yeah there's a different sport besides pickle ball heard that yeah anyway all right well that's good news then the building still being built yes so had a little bit of transfer of funds at town meeting that happened without incident that went happened we sat there long enough to make sure that happened anyway so a few more updates not just yet go go go um we received a quote for our audio visual package which includes lctv cable items sound systems digital signage screens and TVs we are working with the AV vendor and LCT lctv staff to refine the quote um and then the last thing on here is the construction the construction continues as planned and on schedule the concrete footings are complete they are working on back filling now next up is installing utilities below slab Plumbing piping below slab electrical and installing the water m to the building installing electrical duct Bank to the building was a lot of work big words there um but anyway so that leads me to my next announcement which is that shatak street will be experiencing water shut off oh on Thursday for a few hours five hours um it's not going to affect town hall or the library um but the residents on shadik Street will be affected they should have received a notice from um Commodore I think it was yeah they they would have been issued a notice so and we're going to be it's going to be posted on the site so everybody should be well aware suppose they that to the point where they're waterproofing the foundation great y they're starting that seems as though they're still on target you know you know to where they should be so M yeah they are on they're very happy with it good we're happy with it I'm I'm one the different board and I hear all the stuff from the opms and everyone and the and commodor so I hear them all as well even though they're going to be starting the work on um Indian Hill that went through to a to meeting I know and they'll be but that's a different group of people it yeah it is it's classic construction he somebody from Littleton that got the B classtic construction on Taylor Street yep all right oh done now I'm done thank you that's a great report wonderful tot good job y thank you oh good times yes and right now they're on budget and as of as of the other night there were no um engineering change orders as off the other night which we don't want engine EC no we don't want any changes there no cuz they cost a lot of money well so n as off the other night great cool all right okay everything's going quite well well I'm then up to new business and that's good because it's only well it's already 3:30 wow okay any updates from board members any change um the affordable housing trust change membership anything anybody change in that membership group as a result of the election no no because it's an appointed board that's right it is an appointed board okay you're right thank you okay all right then we can move on okay we have a couple of things um we we have several goals for 2024 which we need to stop focusing on um excuse me one of them sorry yes there was a change I guess that was since the last our last meeting um Mark Mountain Ary uh resigned from the committee or dropped out of the trust and not from the planning board though no from the affordable housing trust okay and Kimberly no oh no oh no albertelli oh oh I don't know her I've seen her name though albertelli Alber yes yeah she's was appointed by the select board okay okay I've seen her name but I just don't know but he's still on the planning board he's yes he's just he not going to be on that committee and there was a change this is a little off subject but there was a change in the planning board um was a new member elected yeah who was that David Baker pardon me Baker Baker right who left Delisa oh did she step down she her term was up and she chose not to run again oh okay I was just I I lost track of that she's retired I think from everything her business oh I don't okay I don't know thank you I mean that's a little off topic here but anyway thank you okay so now we have a um a formal I went down to unless we have any other um things about before we get into the mission statement I think we should talk about our recommendation to the select board regarding naming of the new building and I wanted to Liz looked up and get information on the policy of naming Town facilities so it could be a building or a room or whatever M and I just thought it would be good to review this and to read it and so the public hears it as well so I'm going to read this only the select board will name or dedicate Town owned buildings Joe can help us with this cuz I'm sure he's got a lot of history with it they can only the if the select board will name or dedicate town-owned buildings facilities grounds rooms within buildings and any other real property under its care custody and control choosing a name is an important matter that deserves thoughtful attention personal Prejudice or favoritism political pressure or temporary popularity should not be an influence in choosing a name the board may receive requests or nominations and discuss them at an open meeting upon discussion the board shall then schedule the matter for a vote at a subsequent meeting in order to provide opportunity for public comment expenses to be incurred for a permanent dedication marker and any dedication ceremony must be clearly identified and any Town costs associated there with shall be subject to approval by town meeting so those are the constraints that this elect board operates under right Joe yeah but the only thing I don't remember is is the about the rooms naming rooms well it's in here how they do it with the library it was the fundraising so that was our huge fundraising um we had certain amounts that you could purchase the room well we do too but that still is doesn't apply because the final decision is the select boards well they let us name because we have the sturs room we have the Murray room but you decided that the selb didn't no the fundraising they bought the right to name the room well that's I think yeah that's the issue that was concerning and that's why I think she looked it up well I asked Liz about that when I read that about the naming of the room and she said technically they do they're the last say even for naming the room the select board is the select board is so if you want to name it hello you probably won't get away with it but you know what I mean but if you named it after a select of course it would but I don't know I don't know how much they push that you know like the stch room and stuff like that it it was it was a fund I don't know if the fundraising committee went to the Selectmen and got approval yeah you don't know saying maybe that's what if a donor chooses $115,000 they can name in the room after that family or maybe it maybe they just I bet the only thing we'd have to do is go to the selectman and say this is what we're doing just like the library did and can we do it I bet I bet I'm I'm saying the select part but say fine that's good good idea well we know already that liist put together a the sheet about rooms and they suggested right prices associated with it like the library she's been talking to Sam and doing following what they and the friends of the library did so if you present to the select board your fundraising sheet sheet and you show you know if this is raised you know they know then that that amount was paid to name that room for that amount it's interesting because and then I've heard people say because people ask me and I'm like I don't know anything about it you know but somebody said oh you have to be dead have room named after you and I'm like really no I don't think so that just struck me as a little strange so yeah it's like anyway I'm sure Liz will figure it all out as we go along you know so our job is to come up with what we feel as a board would be fair nice and good to name the new building and that's where we our job is now is to come up with you know and we've talked in the past about the fact that so many buildings are not named by you know families for families anymore type of thing but and we this building it seems to has already got its name it's been called a certain name for so long it's almost like it's it's pretty close yeah so but go ahead we need to talk about that I need to get that to Liz and she'll send it on yep select board board votes to on a name to recommend to the select board Liz then writes a memo to give to the TA to be discussed at the select board meeting on 528 the day after Memorial Day holiday so to do that idea so throw out your ideas I wrote the center on Shad Street I've heard that I think you know anybody else say it's senior it means we can use it for at night if we need to for something El well it was my understanding actually when I I remember who else did the chores I know I did I went up with Nicole and this was way back when Joel Laden was here yeah Joel Laden was here then yeah and we went on the tour of buildings that had just been built and I know that um and Anthony was Town Administrator then and I know that Anthony and Joe spent time talking to the powers that be in these facilities about how they operated their building m in down hours when seniors weren't using the building because it's wasted space if it's not utilized and a lot of discussion came up about the fact that they rent out the space different towns and I remember them saying well who pays for the custodial fees so cleaning locking up you know and all of that when you say you have something on the weekends a town resident can only rent space and pay for it and they would get into that because I think they were contemplating the fact that maybe other departments and if I'm not mistaken the rooms have been decide developed there are being built so that for example the craft room can be locked up as far as cupboards go so people could use that space for something else but not get into all of the supplies and everything but you know so I think that's been built into this MH so I think we can continue Mar you way back when there was a Lions Club in town I was a member of the Lions Club and at the holiday bazaar we always used the kitchen and we made submarine sandwiches and stuff like that if you remember we had we the Lions Club had to pay for someone from the staff you know the kitchen staff to sit and make sure we were doing things and we had to pay the janitor the janitor to you know it wasn't much because the janitor was cleaning more but we had to pay our share for school department in the school Department's manage those that building right yeah but we still we had to pay for and which I would expect the same thing would happen at the library or what happen at the yeah when I was when I was on Park and wreck and we did facil we did things in the school department we had to pay for the janitor and we had to pay electrical cost cost as well for the if we used it we it was so much charged for electricity while we were there and everything and then when Park and wreck mowed the lawn for the school they had to pay Park and wreck for doing that yeah it's so it's all all part of what you're doing but yeah you have to pay well you mentioned I think what generated this little bit of a discussion was you weren't sure what the building was going to be used for in addition to the senior center yeah yeah and I don't know that any of could be used for a lot of things could be used for a meeting it's being developed I think to have flexibility that's my guess I I feel pretty comfortable with that that's why I think the the name that you said there was basic right right it's easy to say I'm going to the center of shic street and that's well what what does l have on I didn't bring that paperwork with me today but on the um the paperwork that's out about the funding you know I haven't seen the paperwork it says the on Shad on Shad Street and then underneath that big of home of yes Elder and Human Services and the veterans and Veterans and Veterans perfect and it's perfect I think it is too yeah I I agree I think it is because it just covers anything and everything that the town wants to do right but the priority obviously is Elder Human Service home of Elder and Human Services COA and Veterans right it says all there the cre English major in me okay okay well we need that that's why you're so valuable just you know I mean you said to come up with s suggestions and that's you know um I I you know that Littleton is missed spelled correct historically yes I didn't know that but anyway yes yes so a nod to history Littleton um was supposed to be spelled l y oh yes oh I've seen that and the gentleman who had the town ordered a bell from England to come to the town and England destroyed his name and put a l i on it so that's how we became known as little him with the I so I just you and David goes no everybody will be misspelling it forever but I'm going the Litton center with a Y for a nod to history with our you know I don't know if there's any history like the history so the Littleton center with a with a Y would be kind of cute and PK and Rec us this little town mhm it is littleton's history if you look up the story it's definitely a story history I've read that story right the Littleton Center and then because the place is used for everybody I just said the Gathering Place oh I like that so those are my two and it could be any Gathering could be a bridal shower I've heard that could be you know family events they could have a dance there maybe I like the Littleton Center as long as underneath it it has home of I do too I I I want I think it should be recognized we're Elder Human Services and COA is that should be recognized somehow in the sign in the naming well that's what I was thinking the center on Shad Street that's what I was referring to that Liz said that's that's what you said the haven't seen that oh that's yeah that's one of the things that Liz put together the Cent on Chad I can I can see the public coming to the library oh they come they come to park and W they go wait they're going to say okay this is shadic yeah the Shad Street Building yes and that's going to be the Shad Street building so which one is the center on Shad oh okay and I know they're going to ask wow that's a good point because this what is this building Town Hall Town Town Hall Shad people come to shad and they call it yeah but it's not called as Shad Street Building it's called the town hall it's just called Town Hall that's right wow and on the front door the yeah and on the front door it says Town Hall it doesn't say Shad Street it says Town Hall all right if we spell part of the town with the Y part of the town with the I aren we going to that's the world confused um it's a great story though people thought yeah a great story but if you put into waves and put in say how come they miss was it going to send you where where would we be put call isn't the something across the street with an L I'm all to history but confus yeah the Litt is l y is it I thought I the Littleton in is l y well Littleton green is um right mm it's a one of the state subsidized when they did housing and you but is that l y the Littleton green Littleton green is l y that's the one that's behind the N right that's behind but the Littleton n is also l y oh I I not Li I'm not sure if that's they're going to history because the town was supposed to be named that way right see that it's interesting it is now the date we had for the town finding was I I don't know the years but um I can remember the confusion uh for the anniversary that's right oh I remember that because it was incorporated at one for one date and it was founded a different yeah yeah and then that was confusing that was a big mess too 174 you have some fun that's right have some fun it was a year off what you no way I know I heard everything so you were around then huh I I was there yeah I thought and I followed up in the 15 well now we have more of a dilemma here I think to do I don't no I don't think it's a dilemma I just think you just asked for you know for opinions of what to bring up stuff so well I did yes in house yeah I'm very nice that you did I opened it up for discussion big time as much as it's a senior center I'm not for calling it a senior center no I'm not either I'm not either I'm really not that I'm not either it just needs to be the home of okay defin yeah the home for I I like the thing home of Elder Elder and Human Services but I think people don't associate what that truly means unless they see slca yeah that's right know if that isn't tagged in there I don't think they're going to put it together but what yeah home home of the Elder and Human Services Department slash Council on Aging and veteran services it's right there put it on right there in that print that's everything that will take place in that building right and I think that's that's the main use of the building and anything else comes about that's fine but that's the main use yeah that is what it is that's my thing too I I think that's and that I think skirts the issue of some people saying no no no it has to be a senior center no and and that and it doesn't have to be a senior center I don't think a lot of seniors want it called No but there are people who do want it called the senior center or the Littleton Senior Center and I think that's wrong in today's world that's wrong even gron doesn't call theirs that no it's not most of them aren't no chelsford it's a center I think it's a center for seniors but they don't call it the senior center so and no I I I agree with that I like what's on that sign right there you know when you come in here you know you've seen the little sign about the little COA you know point you know and then yeah you SL Elder human services slca so I think we should keep it do we need to take a vote any more discussion do it or I have a motion but anyway we can't have a vote so we have a motion well I do we need any more discussion I added the Elder and Human Services to your recommendation so I'll make a motion that we recommend that the naming would be the center at Shad Street on Shad Street right now the home of Elder and Human Services slca and the veterans agent just what's here already just what's there I'll second that okay all right do we need any any further discussion seeing none we will proceed to vote this is a big vote Yes are we ready Anita yes Anita is a yes Susan yes Marilyn yes laureli yes thank you Joe yes John yes Maran yes Jean yes and Marge we're unanimous yeah for sure great sorry was it Marilyn that seconded yes thank you you're welcome I don't know do you have this um by any chance because I can drop one off to you la laa did you see this handout that Liz put together recently I'll drop off the whole packet so you have it okay thank you um yeah I with the with the ATT I'll attach the sheets with the prices of buildings and things so you have that so you're aware I would is that is that available is it out somewhere the pricing for yeah it's around because the friends have it and everything right the friends have a copy of it I know and the select have a cop at least Chuck does I gave it to Chuck because Chuck and um soundra were meeting last week to discuss the vendors that um the friends were going to go out and meet with and so I just as I just asked am ask Liz to get copy out we'll get a copy out to all of you of that okay you should have it because I have something in L all room but I don't have any any numbers next to it no we have she has she updated that the numbers the one that the one that Maryann has has the pricing beside it correct okay yeah does it where did you get it Maran um I forget when Liz had it you know yeah but this is out so it's a I never saw that it's got the floor you see the pricing wait a minute let me just tell them this you'll get a copy I we will get a copy to you there two floor plant here not the size of the rooms but this this people have asked about that and then there's the first FL room no see the pricing isn't on there no this isn't on here that's the first one that was given out at a meeting okay and then the pricing one was not given out rot interested in making some kind of contribution we've been we've been talking about it so but I didn't have any oh Chuck has that now and so does Chuck has it and he said that he was going to talk either to you or to the rotary so but maybe it would be a good idea for you to have a copy to give to the rotary because there's different amounts they may want to give more than one why not give get more it's like the multi-purpose room the amount for the room to they said 75,000 no was 50,000 50,000 that's right 50,000 and then the kitchen itself was 25,000 that's no kitchen's 50,000 those are the two big ones that isn't what they quoted it anyway we don't need to go that just get me a coffee because we meet it every Wednesday you're going to get a copy Amy's going to have Liz get get a copy for everybody so you meet on Wednesday Wednesday okay so could you send an email to Joe so he'll have that yeah I'll send an email to Liz have her send it out yeah if if she would now that we voted that I'd like to make another recommendation well I guess we can let you do that the meeting is May 28th at the selectman oh yes when they're going to be discussing that and I would make a suggestion that as many of us that could be there that night during that discussion should be there to weigh in why we said that if there are questions the first of their meetings will be the May 28th and then there's another meeting one afterwards right and there there will be a topping off ceremony too when they top off the I learned that the other night right topping off when they put up the fin no Steel Beam on the top we're supposed to have you'll be able to sign your [Music] name all right tradition but I mean we don't know what time that night it'll be on right now but I think it's many of us well I'll try to remember we can we can they always close their meeting time so we can always get the word up and their meetings never on time that's they try hard they try hard is it May 28th May 28th that's the that's the select board are you away then in AR we're going to miss flying home flying home that's okay you deserve your little getaway no we'll be flying home in the 29 oh the 29 Short Change Myself okay so are we we're done with that that's thank you finally we got that taking care of now the other issue that's kind of urgent because we need to get this done so we can review our rules and rs and move on and we're close to we're in May and then June which also I wanted to remind people that three board members terms are expiring this year Laurel I myself and Maryland so everybody that's ter whose term is expiring you looking at me like you didn't know that yeah I did oh okay I didn't know you were oh yes I am so so you need to reapply and or let me know if you're not going to be replying because we need people and we need you all don't step down anybody please do you reply to Diane no do you well if you're going to reapply to be you have to reapply to the select board to be reappointed if you want to stay on but it goes through you first well I'll let you know I would like to reapply and I just thought people need to know too because it's we need to keep things open and communicate with the public there might be an opening there might not be an opening on the board I don't know that for now but the issue is it's always people's terms we are on a rotation and usually three members terms expire at this time of the year so that's on yeah you just joined us last year so you have two more years yeah we're good yeah okay so moving on M do you need it in writing do you want it in writing or your application oh this that I want to reapply you you just feel out you've telling me publicly so I think it's a matter of record but you need to fill out the application for the select board to reappoint you you going need to go online to do that that's with Diane with di it goes through dian's office right sorry thank you but you could do it online yeah you just go you have to go online to get the application yeah okay and to fill it out all right so questions because somebody threw this out and so I put it added it into the um agenda do we need both a mission statement and a vision statement and I took the liberty of can I do with that oh looking up just to CL help clarification purposes the definition of a vision statement and a mission statement just so we're all on the same page yeah so the first thing you always should be considering according to the computer and I think this was um I forget it was the Iowa State University extension office that put it forward but I thought it was concise into the point it says the first you need is a statement of vision and that provides a destination for the organization then you have a statement of mission and that is a Guiding Light of how to get to the destination in other words I thought that was a kind of a nice way of thinking about the to it can be very brief um so and also um I'll give you a little bit more information according to them the vision statement decides describes where the organization wants to be in the future the mission statement describes what the organization needs to do now to achieve that Vision so in other words in my mind the one big thing that's left as one of the big needs is affordable housing for seniors in the town of Littleton so we don't have a lot of control over that but we have there's a lot of work that needs to be done to be participating in and paying attention to what's going on as far as housing goes so anyway that's just the thought so the vision and mission statements must support each other but the mission statement is more specific than the vision mhm all right go for it so I know we have people had submitted things did Liz give you anything any information about this okay nope so we've talked about it briefly in the past I know that every people I had looked up I know Susan did and I even have airs there you go because we have I have about five or six of my framing yeah okay so there we go I find most of them only have a mission statement just one statement that's there and some of them some of them are only like two lines and that's right we don't need a lot no I I I the one we have now I think is is done properly with maybe just adding some things to it but well it's pretty Wy too very the one we have is pretty Wy yeah yeah I I can read that probably simp simplify it a little bit how often do you update I well that's a good question I don't think there's any set term I think um you need to um there's no law that says you need to you know update it every but whenever you obviously I was looking for it because I had the one I have was updated at 11132 mission statement town of Litton Council on AG oh no that's rules and rigs yeah but it includes yeah no I'm looking for I saw that I had that mission statement and I don't know what it is does I have it vision statements plus two Vision oh these are elsewhere okay because if you have a vision statement that's where it's General that that's the general statement that's the general stat no matter what the needs of your building or your town that would be covered all the time under that g under the Miss statement statement your mission statements like Marge you're talking about housing that's where the specifics come in that's very you know so if you're going to start adding on particulars to a general Vision you know that might become old quickly so do you do that or do you keep your vision statement to cover what that building's purpose is and what they're doing in that building so General that whatever needs come up in the future will fall right underneath that instead of specifying it right right the vision statement usually like you like Joe said is usually one sentence or maybe two to yeah because it's so so General do we have two statements now I was trying to I thought we had we only have a mission though right yeah so is a mission statement required we need both yes because our mission by law you have to have both so we have not been following the law I don't think it's because we've only had one it's not a law I don't think it's a law um the only note I have on here says do we need both and the answer is yes mission statement and vision statement and Define develop what it should be so we need both and I think and other towns have both oh yeah I've got like I I had sent these out a long time ago what does air have do they have both no they only have one they only have one my only concerns is have a missiones old I think and I could be totally wrong but my understanding was that Liz um wants to have us be whatever is certified uh accredited accredited thank you and in order to do that you have to have both it's kind of going into strategic planning future planning for the for the organization for the future right right I think in a previous meeting Liz mentioned that she thought she'd like to bulleti the statements in the mission right you could she did mention that she did she talked about Wonder have the mission laid out yeah have a statement and that's then all the rest of what they what your responsibilities are what you're trying to do would be in Tabo for I have well the mission um of the esset Council on Aging in the state it has bullets you know and it says is to enhance the mission is to enhance and promotee the quality of life life for adults 60 and old older in the community of Essex we achieve our mission by and then the bullets yes you know providing an inclusive environment where all individuals can socialize build relationships and receive information collaborating with Community Partners to identify unmet needs developing programs and services that promote well-being and maintain Independence educating the community on the needs of our seniors and their support networks treating those we serve with respect and dignity and involving their input and ideas in COA activities and programs promoting Aging in place with the help and support of the local community and that's what they have for their bullets under their mission statement that's what you're talking about I think of that kind of I think that's what Liz was looking at yeah right maybe it was and then the vision is to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment both in our senior center and through our Outreach efforts which is what we do in Littleton I think yes we strive to understand Embrace and celebrate aging as an essential lifelong aspect of humanity perfect does our have to include veterans oh no because they're in the building no no no no this is CA separate I'm just yeah I'm like trying to separate everything veterans um you know won't be they're in the building but they're seniors also so they covered under the fact that they're seniors and this would apply to them from there but not a veterans stuff is just for veterans our statement let's say vision is just for CA we don't need well that was an issue that came up that's where we got hung up for a little bit we were going over the rules and regs and that came up if I recall correctly did it not mhm the question is our the question before maybe you did because I think it did come up and we were and Liz was was here then a vision yes that's just for COA cuz like that one you just read is just for a COA well and that's what we are we are the COA well that's what I'm asking is are we writing a vision that's just COA and ignoring EHS right except the E part of EHS well that's it the E part of EHS we're covering right but we can't cover the um younger age groups obviously we can't it's not part of the COA Our obligation our responsibility so I guess an answer to your question ising it for COA COA I think we have to be just writing it for the COA we're only COA that's our job okay is this a department I know that's because they cover people other than COA right correct so is the mission tied to the department well that's that's my question is this is this vision mission just COA or is it EHS is it the department or is it just COA well I think if it's the co if it's the COA which it is here right we're all the COA right but under the COA the EHS Outreach people are providing the services that are included right there so that even though that's our statement for the COA seniors because she's in our department it's covering everybody our current one starts off the mission of the Department of Elder and Human Services and the counil and aging mhm yeah right so that's that's our current that's the what's the current one says but that's I think it's for the whole department because if we want accreditation for the future we can't have a mission statement that's not covering should I get clarification on this and then we brought it up I think we never resolved it yeah we'll have to go back to Liz with then I think I think Liz is looking at it as a combined it's her vision and Mission right at least everything I've drawn from uh what's happened well here's some help maybe the National Council on COA says that their vision is a just and caring society in which each of us as we age lives with divers dignity purpose and security and then their mission is to improve the lives of older adults especially those who are struggling and that's and COA but that's that's vision for COA and I think we need to find out whether we're doing it for COA or EHS and we have to help Liz or like this well that's true we have to help Liz with this because exactly you want to have it so she can face creditation by a correct correct wording correct word we want to you don't want to mess with predation no that's a big okay yeah I think we going to have have to move along well we have to go back to find out what who we're doing for accreditation what's your take on it Amy do you have a take on it put her on the fire seat yeah I will as far as the uh as far as the mission and the vision statement I would I would my my thoughts would be with it would cover the entire department it would be desirable I think I certainly think that it would be to everyone's Advantage for sure and for certain be the whole you can't take well I don't think you can take segments out of a person anyway in a way you know what I'm saying it's a whole yeah when the library does our vision and mission statements um it's for that whole Library Department that whole age group everybody in town all AG the library department so what does your department what what is what is going on in that building your department so you can't you have to cover the department with your statements it's like an umbrella the ex so you have to think about everything that we do on a daily basis not just the programming and the you know you have to think you have to put it all and try to Encompass it in that one statement so that's that's my personal thoughts on how it would it would be is that it would cover the entire well when you think what do though for say um a younger family MH who has needs that come before the our department you know it's not the portion of say younger needs for younger children not necessarily comes under what you might be doing but it might be coming under Park and wreck for recreational needs meeting recreational needs and things of that nature you don't Pro we don't provide that service but you you meet I know how to describe what I'm trying to say yeah but she would send she would refer would they refer them to the department that could help and then we as a department might be able to help pay for support it whatever you know the program yeah whatever the dues are for that program if the kids the town PE if the family couldn't pay it maybe Outreach would pick up a portion of that to help family be able to do it because tread kind of serves correct correct but they do all ages too Tre does people in need you don't have to talk about age that's your need Outreach that's right it's a broad broad by Nature you're covering all ages so when we became ehsa should it be COA yes oh I don't even know I wasn't around active when that happened either you would be reading the department department is Elder and Human Services and Elder we take we the Elder piece of it we right the sea piece of it yes the seway piece of that yeah yeah I have a question should we have a separate meeting that's not part of the board meeting with Liz in the group to iron this work group maybe a work group would you think think it would be easier well work group I as many people as want to come come um I think it might be a little bit more productive perhaps that's what I'm thinking um I don't know do we have Liz set it up do you set it up I don't know I can talk to Liz or and Amy can bring back you know we can start with me we reaching out to her to just clarify the it might be a work for the entire department or just under Council on Aging and then that might guide your decision from there to whether you wanted to have another sit down and why don't you do that I would think too would take the recommendation from Liz and yourself right and maybe some of the terminology that you want there if we want to try to revise them there fine but I think to needs that you may have accreditation in the future I think the professionals should be the ones that design it and you know more what they going to be what that need that's right point then then bring it back to us and basically we can go through it at that point and yeah but I don't mind a separate meeting I understand that because you can't do it within this this this time frame but I at this point in this discussion now I would suggest that you and Liz get together and bring something back to us so we have some idea okay yeah and then from there we could decide working group like if we need a working group or not one group we might not one group maybe maybe it would be two working groups one that's doing this and one that's we are we're here and existing because we need to serve you to you know to help people so yeah we definitely need that but you're right thank you Joe and it could be more than one working group would be one that really work shouldn't be a big issue and I think it would be easy to write out it might not even be in a working group it might be suggestion might come back from them we can read it read alter it if we thought so and go with it yeah because I think Liz would have the wording to make sure she could get accreditation the two of them would the two work two of you together will figure out spit it out in within half an hour we'll see I know Maran I started when I heard Liz was saying you know tabulate it we we sitting at our kitchen table seeing what bullets we can think of right at the top of our head and roll them down and things like that yeah so Lura you got any input for us on this you're pretty wise about things of this nature oh we can't hear you were you muted I was muted it has to happen once a meeting I like the idea of coming to the meeting with a a draft to give folks something to react to okay I'm happy to help with that just let me know yeah laurelai has a wealth of knowledge tucked away there so I think it would be nice would you mention that to Liz yes and I'm sure she'd be willing to find a time to work with you and yeah and Liz so good idea that's a great idea that's a good idea thank you all right we that disc we table it again unfortunately we have to table again I think but I think that's all to our advantage right but we did discuss it so it wasn't like we didn't no we're we're at least we're taking we're res bringing it up again and we're making um a little bit of Mo a move towards finalizing it so okay therefore let's see is's my agenda I think we're pretty much done we're on number nine we are on number nine do we have any other business that needs to be brought before us today do we need do you people need help for the Spring Fling in any way do you know Susan is in charge of that right the help Park find out I will I will be sending out a help a help message because I know I had sent a note yeah so speaking of that we have a couple minutes but I would just like to revisit maybe there's been some confusion I think in this transitionary period since Nicole left as to how we are doing things and people are misunderstanding here we go again here we go again yes so how things get so misunderstood and I think it would be wise just to spend a couple minutes to clarify for people in general and then people who are watching can pass the word to other people hopefully because Susan long ago quite a long ago I don't know when was it that you we and um Nicole right established the relationship that um the member of this the board was going to be the focal connecting per person to connect with Nicole to provide help from board members for events help I mean by help setting up tables cleaning up tables you know getting the room ready serving whatever the need was helping with decorating the tables whatever right and that's Sue took that on and volunteered to do that and Nicole would reach out to Susan Nicole left y we had a little bit of a void so in order to help Liz not be the one to trying to handle that IA stepped up and said I'll take over Nicole what she did only when it came to events and communicating you know getting events organized and I that part of it you want to explain to be specific expl all I took on right was that I would order the food oh figure out what the menu should be work with Liz to make sure that we had the money to do what needed to be done as far as food goes I would also be responsible for making sure that there would be centerpieces on the table and the day of the event I would be there to set everything up and make sure hopefully that everything ran smoothly and I would work in partnership with Sue to say I need three people to serve or two people to clean up or whatever I did not please understand I did not take on any other responsibility that Nicole had for programming or anything else and I did not take on the responsibility of the interterm assistant director no that was totally miscon I don't know somewhere along the line it was another rumor that went around town and just got blown up and was so wrong and so I apologized to Amy and to Liz that I had never said that or didn't want to do that my God I have enough going on I don't need to take on that responsibility and so and I've worked with Amy we're working together and um but really it's just to do the meals and provide and that that goes along with the whole fact that the one of the responsibilities of this board yeah is to provide support and help to the staff yes and that's what this is all about is getting those events that you all everybody loves the food events but it takes a lot of work oh it does it does to get one up and running and then cleaned up and all of that so please understand and help us clarify people who might watch get the word out no on the board is taking over anybody a staff person's job no we're just helping and we need a key person like anything else to coordinate that coordinate it and to get board members to help out so y okay now now if we don't have anything else to clarify or talk about I'll uh entertain a motion to adjourn it's um three 4 20 so moved thank thank you Mar uh Marilyn I was looking at Marilyn Susan thank you do I have a second I'll second it thank you Marilyn we have a motion to um adjourn the meeting at 4:20 all those in favor take my vote where's my little Chi-Chi here so I don't forget somebody Anita yes okay Susan yes Marilyn yes L yeah thank you Joe yes John yes Maran yes Jean yes and Mar is a yes so we are adjourned and thank you very much
