##VIDEO ID:r8-P64DdaxQ## America and to the rep for it stands Nation indivisible okay 3.0 approval of the agenda I'll make moing to approve the agenda okay Al right any questions or additions not those in favor say I 4.0 public comment looks like we have none tonight 5.0 consent agenda we need a motion I'll make that motion I'll second all right any questions just a comment thank you to Craig Peterson for his bailing that was a nice gift to our district for sure and also from the Parents Club as well there all right those in favor of approving the cons say I iose me okay 6.0 up for the communication reports Jim trock is not here um but you can everybody has got his report I just had one question um does anybody know is there going to be a student performance during the day for the music th on Thursday okay somebody asked that element is that the one that you have like 1010 I don't know the exact time I just know what they're doing on Thursday yeah they're doing kind of a sneak peek for us I think it's just one act 40 minutes I don't believe they have practi because of that that's okay okay so it's not the full one before it isn't for us they might have another time after that but not that but yeah in the past they've done the sneak peeks of a way to kind of iron out some of the microphone issues okay all right um so Todd you're up next all right well on the 14th and the 24th we had parent teacher conferences a really great turnout we had 93.5% we had nine classrooms that had everyone show up so that was great so I was good to get families and parents back in our our building and some really good conversations about the that's going on so it's a good two nights for us we did our Veterans Day program on Friday because no school on Monday so high school did one in the morning I'm sure Joe talk about that and we did ours in the afternoon a really great chance to get our our kids together and it was about an hour along but they did such a good job of sitting and just kind of following along with the lessons that were taught about the pledge and what Veterans Day is and the folding of the flags so we had the clar city Legion and then the ring Legion that were both there in attendance for us and then get speaker uh one of our our high school teachers um I'm gonna say his name wrong but it's RJ speak uh Rea I'll just let you look through that if you have questions uh feel free to ask and we've talked about that a lot but uh the main thing is that we're checking those boxes we're following through with the state guidelines that go with that and we're right on on track so we're happy with that and then and uh we take a a lot of pride in just uh the the chance to work with kids not just on math and reading and science but also just on those character traits so we're really proud of the positive behavior intervention systems that we have in place and Ali fricky does just a great job so I mentioned her she gets in every classroom uh one day each week and they work on some some friendship skills and character traits and some uh just ways to cope with things so uh that's a great uh kind of reminder for those kids to to focus on Wolverine Pride uh we still use those pride tickets we gave out a little over 500 for the first quarter so each week those names go in a drawing and then the winners are drawn out and then they come to the office they get a picture it's posted online and then they get a pick out a prize for that and then we added something new this quarter we did the Wolverine weight so each class recognized one student so uh fifth grade would have three then for each class so three fifth graders three fourth graders all the way down at the end of our our program on Monday we brought those kids up on stage and you'll see that in the paper this week so a lot of fun and a great way to recognize just the great things that are going on you know the positive things before we have to worry about any of those challenges that come up later on so do you have any questions thank you all right Jud you're up next good evening thank you I noticed that my placard was moved on one spot so if I'm out at Edith Des for the next meeting I'll know there's something going on and I'll have some questions at that point so um in all seriousness now our attendance for uh conferences was good uh I take anything over 75% we hit 80% so I'm very happy with that uh we will have greater attendance than that come springtime because that's we going to do class registration so usually get a really good turnout for that um as Mr beram was talking about uh we we held our veteran State program uh it was a morning um morning program that was held and this year I was able to bring in a guest speaker which I was very excited to do family friend uh Commander nope Colonel Jesse Carlson who's the commander of the 133rd airlift Wing out of Minneapolis St Paul was able to come in and talk to the kids about being a small town kid and what the military was able to do for him and his experiences and those kinds of things so very cool for the kids to be able to get to do that I do want to acknowledge that we tried to do a live stream but we had some technical difficulties Mr West Brock tried to give it the college try and did a recording but there was no sound so if we would have had sound on the recording to put that on so we'll see if we can get that worked out in the future I believe actually even in the for the afternoon we had an iron H so we were able to get something that put that y this was a bummer because of the message that was shared all the way through the the program was great for us um I know that Mr trock put it in his notes but again I wanted to invite you to the fall musical that's coming up this weekend uh and then uh my final thing for you is just as a reminder the December tradition is the world's best Workforce and a and I combined report will be presented to at that point so I want to spend some time getting that wrapped wrapped up and then Mr P will present it to you he just found that other than that it's been a good month good month for sure questions all right awesome thanks all right Josh well thank you for coming in tonight H congratulations forth Carmel and uh Julie uh for being reelected to our McCrae school board and also welcome to Ben dun um who uh with 429 total of both casts cast during in district one uh then received 53.3% so we'd like to welcome you to to the school board Ben uh McCrae truly is fortunate uh to have all of you sitting on the board and with the addition of of Van uh you you're a great leaders and great representation of our constituents and I appreciate um that effort that you put forth each and every each and every day uh quarter end has quarter one has come to an end that was on November the 1st quarter 2 will go from now until January the 16th and this truly is a natural time for for all of us in in the school to revisit you know expectations with our students re revisit expectations in the classroom and then also to working with the administration our Deans school counselors and other teachers um just to provide the continual support for our students because today they they may need additional support today that they didn't me it September so always you know at the at the quarter break it's a good time to revisit some of those things so that we can uh ensure students success our Outdoor Classroom um has has been completed the steel on the inside was just completed um this week and classes are already beginning to go out and and use that even with even with the cold and and the wind you know there there are people that were out there uh enjoying that space um today um to today uh Bowers construction finished up most of the project of putting uh Granite Vines uh in the path which is out in the prairie um they in close to 990,000 ton of granite fines in the last 24 hours and so that'll add a nice space for people to go get around just a little easier it's not hard it's not pinous and it's not asphalt but it certainly is going to be smoother and more accessible you know to people to to be out there um this next week I'll be working with Tom sleda he's from Chip walk County and putting together a plan for planting of trees and I'll also be interested to also be inviting our FFA folks to come with when he comes out the part of FFA is is Lea identification and so would it be nice if part of their leaf identification as their competition we had some of those types of trees on campus um to be able to go to go see um the trees will be put in the north of the athletic field where we did tear some out um near the burns that are built there in the northern part of the property and then also in some of the areas where some of the trees are beginning to die in some of the the weather or the wind breaks and just to keep that North and that uh western wind on that bay a little bit preparing for the future um great job to both Mr Bertram and Mr Wheatley for the Veterans Day programs um that they put together um they were remarkable that the kids were respectful throughout the day and it's just so good to have opportunities for our kids to go see these things and be have be part of the school day and it's it's there there really are Unwritten lessons you know they're lessons of respect and attention appropriate Applause you know celebrating your classmates celebrating others that have done great things so I just love those opportunities that all the kids can come together um be with their classmates and and have have those lessons um honor and respect was given to all the all the guests that were there and all the veterans that were in attendance student participation was super um there were readings there were singing there was artwork that was displayed and then there was some that took it upon themselves to help the visitors and help the guests find their seats too U those are great life skills um as as Mr uh Bertram shared the Raymond Legion did share the the story of the 13 FS of the flag and which each of those represented and then also the Raymond uh Legion also shared the importance of the P flag uh the women's auxiliary from Raymond uh came over and shared um the amount a total number of people do you remember Mr bam how many total people participated in the sa Contest no I wish I think it was close to 80 yeah okay so so it was quite a few kids um that wrote essays on you know what the flag meant to them what patriotism meant to them and then the three finals were shared and then the finalist came up shared their their work which is just wonderful uh the Raymond auil also in addition to the essay contest had flags for some of the grades to give out at the end of the program and also has some coloring books to give out too so we we appreciate that um Colonel Jesse Carlson um Mr Wheatley was able to bring him in to to share and his his lesson with the kids is it doesn't matter where you come from you can still make a difference and I think that's good for for us all all to hear that you know you there's all kinds of places across the state that you can GR that still make a difference not only just in your community not just only in your state but across the glob and then our McCrae social studies teacher RJ hogra spoke to the elementary and he had a message too and his message was you know um not only what he gave to the service was important but also too what did the military give to him and specifically it gave him education it gave him World experiences it gave him confidence and also unlimited opportunities and that was really great for our our younger kidss to hear from one of our staff members that they see in the fall uh Reggie dabs dos is coming to visit with us on Thursday he's going to speak to all the sixth through 12th graders and his message is you can't change your past but you can change your future so that's coming up this week on Thursday he's a motivational speaker that speaks not only around the state and the country but across the world so that'll be good to hear from him on Thursday um a couple weeks ago we had the Briggs and Motley fall craft uh fair that brought thousands in attendance Community certainly benefited from the volumes of the people that were in the area um the organizers utilized more space this year so not only did they use the Middle School in the high school space but they also expanded down into the elementary Commons so there was even more vendors this year than is ever they' ever had before um really a great job and shout out to Denise um Smith and her community ed Education team and also nol and the custodians um there was a lot of extra effort that was put in you not only that week leading up to but also too the fact that after they leave we've got about 24 hours to get kids back in the building so uh it was it was a quick turn around just a quick comment with that um I worked at the craft show the last few years and um we get many compliments on the school and the building from people.com every you know I know it's been a couple years and still heard the same thing thank you yeah absolutely Jenna fromom she is the CEO of Palmer bus she came out to visit um within the last week or so just to hear our perspective concerns on Transportation um also too I want to share a positive recognition with the retirement of John de um he is going to be retiring at the beginning of December we just appreciate his investment in in student safety and what he has done for our community not only him but his family um another John is going to be replacing him uh John ches chesnik will be joining us he has been part of the Palmer team before um and he actually began his first week last week so he has been employed for for one week and John will be there to to help him uh navigate these first couple uh weeks and months I had an opportunity um through S swwc um to meet some Minnesota legislative representatives from our region and it was a combination of both Republican and dfl representatives Patrick Walsh she may have heard that name he's the BBE superintendent he served as the moderator and the big discussion items from this region were earn safe and sick time Family Leave unemployment unfunded mandates PSO costs and also just healthare health insurance costs um we did have vision and hearing the last week or 10 days and I thank nurse Donna for setting that up um both or all Raymond clar City and mayard lions helped out with that this was programming it was through Countryside help along with Ridgewater college and since 2022 um at McCrae we have done uh vision and hearing for 1,220 kids and of those 1,220 kids over 145 of them were referred for glasses that may not have been referred for glasses without the scaming was done in school so that's tremendous for for nurse Donna nurse Donna is also setting up a dental visit in March and April uh the dates have not been set but it offers cleanings and also sealing um to to to students and again many many kids across the state across our nation don't have opportunity to see a dentist but if we can be proactive so they can do the cleanings do the checkups in the building so moms and dads don't have to take them to an appointment I think that's very important uh health insurance costs are continued to increase um Kim and I along with Union Representatives have begun to explore other options for health insurance um as we prepare for contract negotiations in the upcoming months uh operation snow desk believe it or not um with at the top of the month U Mr ber Mr weatley Mr westro West Brock and I have you know the contact information for radio and TV if we need to do something with WEA and then also working working with our staff to make sure that we are prepared for uh e-learning days if needed um I did attend a national weather service by Peter Roger out of sou Fall South Dakota just to talk about what does this upcoming winter look like and he said that um expect more snow um and then also expect different ways to see headlines cold weather headlines we may not see windchill used often uh over the next year or so because if it is 40 below windshield or if it's 40 below regular time it's still cold so so regardless of whether you just add the word windchill to it um it's 40 below so we might see some changes in that and then adding to at the uh early on in our meeting they talked about some of the donations um by the um the roller estate rental by the elementary Parents Club uh the 2180 also donated $234 um to help the elementary kids have that opportunity to to do the role of Ling their fire that's a lot but do you have questions of course they do first of all thank you so much uh Josh attended the Raymond city council meeting last night and so I had a chance to introduce himself and he had some really good discussion about him so I want to tell you thank you so we appreciated that um I'm just wondering if we've been looking down the road to see what this what sort of financial implications the Paid Family Medical Leave might have in our district and I think we need to start preparing for that as that's going to come in and then not only financial side of it but how does that impact in our our Union negotiations and whatnot um wondering um what percentage increase did we have this year for health insurance Turn to You K call je okay from this the past year you're talking about starting in Janu January first so we've explored all other options and that's our best we get it through the coop no no no blue CR Shield directly I'm wondering if you're able to share with us what some of the concerns were with the bus company and what was discussed sure yeah um so and maybe concern was was a bad example but our just our conversation with our the ages of our drivers are not getting any younger and it's difficult to fill those positions and so where are we going to be in in five years you know what how are we going to be able to find drivers to get to and from school you know the buses that's one thing but how who's bringing the kids here you know so that was a real conversation that we had because other districts are doing they you know having the same conversation does that mean you have I don't want to do this but does that mean you have less routes you know that puts kids on on buses a little bit longer but it takes less people power um we also explored too it do we open to are there coaches or teachers advisers or School Employees that would like to get their bus license so that they could still help help out in a morning route if we give them that grace period you know before they get into the classroom um we did send out a note to all to all staff and we do have a coach right now that is interested in getting their bus license um so that that was the conversation um also to the the conversation that Jenna and I had is there's some legislation that that um if let's let's say you were hired by Palmer bus and pver bus pays for your education your behind the wheel and things like that and you you start at the bus company but then in less than 60 days you decide to take your CDL license and then go somewhere and drive besides the bus company now the bus company is just you know um they put resources into you and you've left you know what what can we do to prevent those kinds of things um so those are those are some of the conversations also to you know what what kind of fuel is being used in our buses you know there's been with LP um versus gasoline or versus diesel so that's something to to explore too but and then we and then we just we talked about the transition locally from John to John well and then the price of the buses and the long weight lines just to share we we just got three propane buses okay that will be starting to run in marshes so it'll be interesting off to you know how they compare with the Diesels and whatnot um last thing thank you so much for the email um about the additional sted students and additional sped staff because they did ask at the last meeting about them but there was nothing in there about the space and so wondering have you had an opportunity to have a discussion with the staff especially since now we're seeing more students in that area the space itself even prior to this year was not adequate yeah so since um so since the last uh board meeting I I've asked both Mr Bertram and Mr weatley to to meet with specializ staff to have that conversation because it does look it does look different across the district I don't want to put all of our special ed staff into the same group because they have different needs um so so have have I personally sat down with each of them no I have not that is that is in the works so then maybe we can expect next month they have some sort of feedback y there'll be dialogue sure thank you you're welcome good anything else for superintendent not thank you Josh 6.2 committee reports I don't see anything here somebody's got something uh 6.3 board discussion I just got a couple of items I wanted to touch base on again excuse me um Josh's performance review I know we started that last he said it was last January or February right right so we'll have to probably get that scheduled again and um get up to speed on that and then maybe February is a good time for that um and then also part of that was progress on a strategic plan which was one of the jobs you were assigned I gu so um gos goals there we go goals that's what he should be saying but anyway didn't want anybody to think we just forgotten about those things um if everybody's in agreement do you think February sounds like a good ishary um other than that I just was going to say remember we usually turn in those time sheets for December yes thank you for the next meeting yeah when you send the board packet out you want sure I will yes I'll send you reminder to remind you to put that on right right guess we'd have a little time before the end of the year yeah all I had any anybody else said anything all right so now we're on to business item 7.0 uh 7.1 is a resolution canvasing the school board need a motion for that second read it go
