awards that you get but in the enthusiasm and the pride there's that word again that you show every time you perform whether it's at an athletic event or just for competitions and band competitions so congrat congratulations thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to honor you and uh have a wonderful uh holiday break let those banners H up there very well [Applause] [Music] [Applause] learned oh yeah like too tight over there too crowded yeah too tight all right well one thing about a marching band is that it's large yes and gets larger when I went to the University of Michigan a very long time ago I remember every time they came out they would yell and here comes the the Michigan 225 member Michigan marching band you know they're up to like 265 now they we're getting close so at the um us bands competition uh James Madison's band was there 514 members wow it was incredible Sports all right so so Mr parowski the uh I know the pride continues tonight cuz now we have another whole set of athletes student athletes that we'll honor Mr Cathcart thanks for taking us through the fall champions from autan high school okay well first of all thank you for having us here and to support us so we'd like to thank them for all of that tonight our girls cross country team which seems to be here every fall yeah uh I'm going to ask our team to go up on stage you're looking at six girls who did probably something that is very hard to imagine not only did they win the Red Division they won the GMC Championship they won the state sectional championship and they won the group one Championship with just six girls it's just a tremendous Fe and congratulations to [Applause] [Music] them I'd also ask Giana to step forward Gianna was our GMC champion this year and a state cross country team the girls tremendous job and the boys they're always uh a mark to try to match not easy to match excellent coaches they do the job very well our girls tennis team this year I'll do quick thing uh we tied the division with Highland Park no one thought we could do it cuz they picked up two studs that were really good but the last match of the season when we had to play them at home we put it together with our doubles team and one of our singles players and a tremendous finish I've coached for a hell of a long time but that was one of the best matches I've ever seen in the comeback Trail most people thought other coaches from the other County uh in our division said how'd you guys beat them I didn't beat them the girls beat them uh so great job job girls [Music] uh starting from the left we have Lauren Mary Gian Chelsea Nicole Erica na ne Abby uh and Anna and Anna and Anna excuse me uh but thanks for a great season guys and uh I'll see a bunch of you not all of you but a bunch of you for next year thank you very much oh wait picture before you leave sorry how many years Mr Thomas almost as old as you are Brian started in 1979 took a little break and then came back congrats bro thank congratulations so on behalf of the board I want to congratulate all of the athletes who here this evening all of our champions thank you for giving us coming tonight giving us the opportunity to honor you uh starting with uh cross country both the boys and the girls um what what can be said about our cross country teams uh in P for past years the tradition and if anything you've surpassed the tradition this year with your championships and as I said about the band you know your your hard work is evident to everyone in the community because we see you running through it a lot and uh it's uh it it's something that people who move away from a touch and comment to me when I talk to them he's like are those kids still running through the town and the answer is yes they are different kids but they're still running through the town and uh I want to congratulate you in just a spectacular year both the boys and the girls teams and I don't want to uh take anything away from the boys team but the fact that the girls team was able to win that those championships with with how many girls six is almost unbelievable and it's a testament to how hard you've worked and and we really appreciate you coming and and thank you for bringing honor to the district by your by your championships and your hard work and the same goes for the tenant the girls tennis team also I think coach Thomas said it pretty well that um I I wasn't aware but now that I've heard the story about you battling Highland Park on the last um match of the year and prevailing to to pull out the co- Championship is really a story that uh future tennis girls tennis teams and boys tennis teams will be talking about into the future and and what could you ask for more than that so congratulations on your hard work also and thank you all for coming this [Applause] evening feel free to stay for the rest of the meeting it's it's it's going to be exciting there are agendas over there if anybody didn't pick one up please if you didn't get a super agenda we have Golden Rod souvenir agendas so please pick one up for your your scrapbooks oh great thank you Mr kathcart M prasy Mr Cathcart thank you guys coach Thomas congratulations thank you I've been following sports for a long time here I can't remember any team winning GMC and state we've had the field hockey team won three GMC's in a row the golf team won a couple state championships the cross country team won a three state championships but the hatch Recs yeah I think is probably the closest where they won the conference the sectional the group as well so that's probably the closest but this is an amazing cross country season this year all right and the boys as well girls just won one more level they both had County Champs the girls just had you know a group champ as well so just fantastic so the meeting is now open to the public for any topic seeing no public we'll uh there's there's except Mr parowski is herei but um anyway we'll close that se SE move to presentations there are none I don't believe correct uh president's report I do not have a report this evening superintendent's report no report this evening okay committee reports let's see who who is here this evening I'll be speaking for Miss K start down at the end Mr benderly is not here so the meeting will move quickly Miss Cook policy too soon too soon that's terrible okay and the policy report is very quick policy did meet on December 12th and the only item on our agenda is the calendar and it's still on the agenda in January because it's still in flux with the um upcoming construction and things like that so hopefully we'll have something to you guys in early 2024 as fast as we can thank you um Mr derflinger is not here uh is curriculum you have the report yes okay uh so doing a report for Mr uh derflinger the committee met on December 12th um they discussed resources that were shared as guidelines um that supplement the curriculum for Holocaust and genocide courses um there was considerations from the committee uh related to honors band music orchestra proposal uh they discussed the program of studies um there was a review meeting that was held and revisions will be reported on uh after the district meeting takes place and after the committee meets again there was a request to discard old books from the Campbell Library the media center specialist archived uh books that were out of date and out of condition and there'll be a motion related to that uh request on our agenda it's on our agenda tonight I think the student growth percentile data from njsla was was released and is being reviewed uh the stem supervisor is working with the climate committee uh developing a staff climate awareness initiative um there were let's see the district was awarded grant money um to begin working on high impact tutoring with third and fourth graders so they discussed that and there was an update on the heart rate variability project uh the district had s several sessions completed including 25 teachers so there was an update on that project as well and uh Title One math interventions at the high school were discussed that's the the committee report if anybody if Dr Herzog thinks I got anything wrong or should add anything please please speak up okay all right that's for that report yep thank you uh D Dr Johnson Marcus Equity uh the equity committee met on December 13th and we heard a report from The District's racial Justice and Equity committee um it's always a pleasure for us to hear from the folks in the district doing this really important work um and they continue to work on creating Brave and safe spaces in which we can all learn from each other and indeed that they can be better prepared to support our students um one of the things that they continue to seek out are more opportunities for professional development um that that kind of ongoing learning um and Firming up the process so they can be clearer on how best to support our students and also how to continue the important work of incorporating inclusive texts into our curriculum um the committee share that they're really proud of the array of student clubs that exist so that many of our students have the opportunity to find community and to be supported with a faculty adviser in that space they also mentioned a fun activity happening um at the high school with Heritage months and competing displays on board on doors uh where students and teachers have the opportunity to vote on the best displays again encouraging sharing of cultures and getting to know more about one another um one of the other um items that I really wanted to highlight was the work that's happening within the district to be thoughtful about the kinds of books that are accessible um they've worked with other institutions where we may not have access to gain things like large print books so that students have access to accessible text um so indeed there is a point of Pride that the there is continuous learning growth and development going on within the District um and folks are wanting to continue the open lines of communication that exists between our student clubs and the administration at each of the schools and that's it uh for the equity committee and just real quick I wanted to thank folks who came out to the Human Rights Day celebration for the human relations Commission on December 10th at the matachin public library and that's it for me today great thank you um Mr glasberg construction uh I'll start with DLT uh the district leadership team team they met um near the end of November uh there was an update on the Edgar field which is being if you've driven around that area being redone um so they discussed the timeline for that it looks like it's getting close to completion and is nearing completion a fair word yes oh you're very close looks like just the turf now yep yeah okay so it's looking good and that's exciting I'm sure that the kids will look forward to being able to use those there was a construction update about the bidding process and so on I'll elaborate on that shortly uh we discussed a safety plan for when schools are under construction uh we discussed different job responsibilities um that was basically the DLT meeting construction committee uh met formally on December 14th uh we went out to bid for both phases of the project the bids were over budget so we're not accepting those bids we're working actively with our Architects and our construction manager to prepare us for a second uh bid opening which uh should take place hopefully in uh January we also discussed uh the professionals did indicate that the project could still be on target for substantial completion for September 2025 uh we'll monitor that we discussed our public labor agreement um and we also discussed the a neighbor's concern regarding drainage issues um and that would be Revisited after we end up awarding a bid that was the construction committee thank you Mr glasberg um Miss clean is not here is there an extracurricular report you have it Mr sus yes uh the extracurricular me uh committee met on December 12th um they talked about um so girls flag football uh is now going into a pilot phase with the njsia for two years um it'll be evaluate two years to make it a full NJ Sia sport um to uh hiring the winter cheer coach which will be on the agenda for tonight we also talked about um uh some EMS volunteer Club advisor which will also be on the agenda tonight and an MHS volunteer Club adviser for approval which will also be on the agenda tonight and then we had the uh winter season preview um coaches schedules Etc anything I should add Mr not comp or no great job with the report and uh it was a full packed agenda I appreciate the uh committee's uh involvement y why don't you go right into your Finance report that as well Finance didn't meet what we canceled Finance Finance didn't meet because of construction it all sort of blend it together sound like you said it ain't me true enough true enough um and Dr spner No appear to members of our audience that the Board of Education takes action with very little comment and in many cases unanimous vote before matter is placed on the agenda at a public meeting the Administration has thoroughly reviewed the matter with the superintendent of schools if the superintendent is satisfied that the matter is ready to be presented to the Board of Education it is then referred to the appropriate board committee the members of the board committee work with the administration and the superintendent to assure that the members fully understand the matter when the committee is satis when the committee is satisfied with the matter it is presented to the board of education for discussion before any final action is taken only then is it placed on the agenda for him a very well-deserved retirement um you know it's funny we talk a lot about um professional staff teachers administrators par Paris but really the people who keep the building run the buildings running are our custodians and our our maintenance people and uh they're really unsung heroes you only notice them when something's going wrong or something isn't as you know what you the way you expect it to be and and and due to their hard work that isn't very often in mouin so uh we wish him a very a very healthy and well-deserved retirement okay uh moving on to finance Mr sus yes I'd like Administrators but specifically talking about the board I just want to thank my fellow board members for all the hard work and I do want to highlight that Dr spner has been the um the least tenured board member for her entire two years on the board and this will it is our tradition that the newest tenar board member gives the announcements so for the first time in two years she will not be the the the shortest tenard board members so that was potentially her last announcement so I want to thank her for her announcements for two years years um and we'll have a new victim on uh on January 2nd
