evening everyone it's good to see everybody um we do not have quum um I'll take roll real quick I'm here Larry's here Chad's not here Gary's here at least in person um Jud is not here ped's not here's not here Ed's not here Chris here is here not is not okay just quickly uh somebody does yes anybody wish to volunte here take minutes I need someone since Chad's not here he's a secretary I need somebody to take minutes there won't be much and without just attendance yeah it's just basically attendance and whatever heck we're talking about um no public comments no one's present I have one item I don't know if you want to includ public comments I was contacted by fishing with American and fin this we did EV two years ago the next year is the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam end of the Vietnam War and he wants to do another event similar to that okay but this year he's not been able to rise any F last year he got money through Alex Reas mistake and so now he I invited him to come in tonight but they're out u in Virginia trying to get some money okay but if not trying to reach out to us and I said well remember the town for the town put money well we'll see we have other priorities yeah what's the date are they shooting for doesn't have a date yet U because it's got to find out for some money yeah because I'll say this year's it ain't going to happen next year it'll be next year next year I'm sorry who was that contact uh fish fishing with America's Finest group that start group you're doing a documentary I just had I got interview for that was oh yeah yeah company can buy it there it's supposed to be sold to Netflix but it's going to be a full length motion picture documentary and doing segments from different veterans they interview about certain things and uh and I was interviewed they at my house with a camera crew for like five hours on Sunday I were you yeah you out of all that they'll probably use the L what they what do they ask you about that's a lot of different things example the um in my case there was one one thing that occurred when I was there I got a metal a I got a combination metal or whatever it was when got metal they always put you a picture on the paper uhuh well I had think a picture on the paper local paper yeah you know I had a picture in my paper they put my picture right next to the obituaries everybody looked at got the same about they one a metal before he died and then they see you walking around they like look alive well wow that's a fantastic zombie story yeah website something when we came home and landed come Air Force Space before went to for Lis yeah and um after we landed it was um I like to tell a story but you know it it's pretty sad we're like an old uh [Music] B 707 ones the things that brought down the back and what they did when we landed and we were so happy to get home I was there a year and a half we're so happy to get home it was just amazing I just the build up you find land you made it you know your home all that time and when you're 19 years old you're in a half a long time yeah so you finally get there and I like I was sitting in the back of the plane but they wouldn't let us off the plane roadway we had to wait for them to unload the back and they were R off the M gasket gas guys di we had to wait for them to go that was kind of a heart moment and then after that they open the gates and live us all out everybody's down kissing the ground scream and Y so happy to be home and then you walk into a big hanger there's a big hanger there maybe 100 yards away and you're expecting something you're like you're all Happ to be something and it was like nothing it was processing getting line over here and your bus will be out there you own bus see it was like was terrible just like when you got in oh it's unbelievable expecting and then even gets worse so you finally get on a bus after they after they these incompetent people play around with you for which seems like forever because you're so anxious to go right and they finally put you on a bus and you get on this bus right and we no sooner pull out on a highway and a convertible Mustang pulls out people giving you the finger baby killers like that threw something at the bus it was just horrible the whole thing was just bad and then you finally you finally get to Fort Lewis and before they wanted to clean us up you know we had long a a lot kind of sh you know so they wanted to clean you up before they sent you home right so you had to stay there for all the stuff to get a uniform you get a check you know they're going to give you of money your some people got mustard out pay or vacation pay whatever you have you leave pay and then you're so ashamed you just feel like this is terrible you didn't want to wear your uniform right and the feeling you had was just horrible like you talked one time about the guys giving their combat ribon badges we didn't get any combat we got nothing even if you weren't in combat you still got bombed and mor and everything else but we didn't get anything and got treated on on top of that and then they then after that when you try to get back into civan life and that comes around if people ask you what you were doing what your previous experience oh I was a combat intelligence analy in Vietnam I'm sorry have the this I couldn't even get a job I not working at factory noose yeah was terrible so anyway this what they've done they went around what the the this movie is it's about um different veterans or experiences you know what how it all went about in my case um I was from a family that we were a middle class family my parents were breaking up there wasn't I was in college there wasn't money for me to stay I was failing every Su of it my parents constantly AR you know to me it seemed like a good thing go in the military you know have a paycheck I won't be a bird of the family and of course Vietnam was bit was big time at that time and I was about to use my two w permit at that time they had the remember the lottery they had the lottery going on where this was just just before the lot I went before they had the lot so um they had the U anyway I don't want to talk all right well thanks for sharing what you but you land that in my court pardon you land that in my court in Seattle at my court airport when we no that was um well let's get back to the agenda John we can talk about this um okay no public comments public comments are closed order business defer auditions deletions none we cannot deal with the minutes so we have to defer number six old business um we approved the checks for the family scholarships do we have a date we're going to present it to the folks who have want them we going to do this in the council yes yeah be a pre counsil kind of thing yeah I'm thinking it could be the August meeting okay um when is the August me I want to see the 13 the only issue is I don't know what the the kids the recipients all say not kids um schedules will look like um relates more the ceremonial effort anyways um but if we're if we're talking about you know what's closest it would be that August meeting um what's practical it be the September meeting I'd have to i' have I mean you have to figure out whether or not you can get all the families at that one meeting so I mean i' I've been communicating with them because we've had some holdups with uh the the checks so putting a you know when can you come to a council meeting fer wouldn't be that big of an issue okay so let's let's do that and actually on that that little hiccup that I mentioned the committee have agreed to cover the buses for one of the bands or the the marching band from I think halia Gardens and so they hadn't sent us the in until you know maybe two weeks ago and so $900 uh which which comes out to you know between seven recipients about 14 I don't know what the map is but uh I let them know uh we still haven't gotten the in the corrected invoice from that company so it hasn't officially been paid out but we we cut the checks assuming they're going to send it any day now okay because I I so we're looking at what was the original amount we had like 2135 so now it's like 1,900 know it it was like 23 it's a weird number yeah it was a weird number her under 24 now it's 22 okay and change per per person right yeah it's just you know all right so yeah well do that let's go get this thing done and I have the large check um know the presentation thing I'll just put veterans families a bunch of them and I'll speak with Joseph so we didn't coordinate the presentations I'm going to cut checks for each person ask can work there'll be a check the talent rate's a check for each person I'll get a check in the mail we got we we got no that's we can't present it there we the charts we could we present it there yeah I mean I mean it seems that that way they show up otherwise they don't show up so let's present it there otherwise they don't show up if they don't show up yeah then we'll we'll p m to with a nasty little note k out that you're welcome you're grateful by the way if your paper's not in Miami Lakers your picture is not in there it's your fault all right so looking at August 6 August 13 what time uh presentation are at 5:30 um I'll go with Joseph on that okay um basically on the QR code markers for veterans Park I just got to get with Jeremy on this guy's thing um that's such a great idea that that's really think it's a super idea I have some great ideas we should have one for Gary the QR code for Gary by that's what we're GNA do what we're doing what we've been talking about the coun this I knew C is very receptive to not even uh not even just for veterans it's for everybody but you know the riv communi yes exactly so the old maybe like old historic landmarks like this is this is the conversation I like so it was very yeah no they were really I saw them all taking notes when I mention it some of them ready be forand and go why haven't we thought about this earlier now it's just Logistics well really what gave me the idea is when you did the BR the pamplet the brochure for the Congressional midle of Honor stuff in Memorial Day and I was like you know take out your phone we can do this as a historical thing where we every tree every building has a QR code so it's named after somebody press it you can learn why it's named after that person okay so that's Works um I'd like to thank uh you know the veterans committee we we did a great job on the 4th of July we helped out the post 144 beating a bunch of people getting a bar barbecues from the kns of Columbus and then feeding a bunch of Orphans and getting uh the town especially Jonathan Isle they got me uh five tables and 40 chairs to deal with orphanage from his house um so they could sit down and have a place to eat how' that work out for you work there uh it was fantastic they loved it and you know a lot of them were Central American unaccompanied Min from Central America and then another group was Haitians from the Haitian Civil War when their parents were killed so it was pretty rough it was pretty rough but they had a fantastic did they stay for the fireworks yeah they did they got fed they stay for the fireworks they enjoy themselves yeah I didn't I I I didn't really I was running around taking photos so I didn't really get much to follow they were quite older actually they were probably 18 that's when they really need a parent yeah yeah they been there if there's if there's interest in joining that again next year um at the very start of the plan let's let's keep it okay um in that chain of yeah that way that way I don't drop it on you too L but it was it was nice it was it worked out it always worked out no it worked out it was great you know we had the meeting I'm like unless you people don't like orins the comments why would you say that in pressure telling Council you know unless you don't like orphans it was a good it was great that was great all right moving right along new business um basically everything needs a vote so except for the 9911 thing um but that still needs a vote as well because we're going to change the location and change some of the stuff well I uh my little thing of clarity from a who was the chair on for Public Safety she's the one who sits in during the parade and own discussions um she already B this and I think you were there they've already sort of accepted it oh great collaboration point so I actually don't even think there's much to to vote on that that uh so this is the new location yeah in B Town Hall fantastic you can see the the fire uh fire engine with the flag and the cars it's pretty simple um are they going to I guess the question becomes is what were we doing and what are they doing are they going to be the MC so right this is what I I wrote down from a so I did feel they meet on Tuesday they agreed on the layout um they have funds that's something that we don't have um they're getting quotes specifically on the coffee or or any sort of before and or after you know things provide breakfast for the officers and um but no solid uh they're not solid on spending yet because they're talking about that on the Tuesday meeting that's in the agenda um so it's I don't do they meet us for anything I mean well I'll attend the Tuesday meeting Tuesday yeah please do I'll attended Tuesday meeting see if they have any specified tasks I'm I'm thinking I guess requests because they do have funding it's not ours to to vote on even if we could yeah I mean I think it's really what I'd like to be able to do is give the uh because a lot of police officers and firefighters show up this um I'd like to give them breakfast so breakfast and I think are uh paying for a nice wreath because that's part of the presentation aspect that I that I sort of mentioned before where ideally it could be the major in the fire chief you know placing the wreath during a ceremony getting a nice breath I imagine it I don't know the prices of bre but I know it's not so I think that sort of thing but aside from that it's it's a fairly respectful that it can be really it's a moral it'll be really great we'll see if if they take our lead and do it by reading biographies or officers firefighters that lost their lives or if they can personalize it that way that'll be good all right that sounds good okay um uh seeing that there's nothing else we can really discuss because it requires a vote I make a motion oh I did I did one sorry I apologize um specifically on the scholarship I guess moving forward I wanted to put some notes out there that we can I guess discuss later on uh just things that popped up upstairs that we kind of wanted clarity on moving forward well you see it's an reindeer thing it's an agenda item yeah I mean I'm I'm proposing uh allocations already right but for next year's no this isn't me suggesting my organizations this is just the things that the committee should think about um if you get it one year are they disqualified for the next I think that was already discussed affir that was um maybe if there's going to be clarification on one per student versus for the household um because we had three from one family this year which you know we had seven total which sounds great it five households um which is still fine you know I think it was per student you know that's the thing I mean you could have a family that a person has three or four kids and they're all you know in that situation you can imagine and I would think I would think they actually need it more than anybody else I agree if they have multiple kids in college or in pray school and stuff like that they're probably more of a need than anybody I agree I just I hope you guys can sympathize the heartb burden that was felt when they saw the same address three times they were fine with it because I explained them you know yeah and and the C over saw it yeah no I mean yeah it interesting we had to c a wide net to recruit people and that was my last one um thinking about any qualifications if there's any way it was brought up and again we'll discuss it and vote on it another time maybe spouses of veterans I want to go back to school you know this that would be bad if there the the entire household not just children I don't know already re you can transfer you can transfer it yeah that you can transfer to your children too but then that means you don't get we could just say clarify eligibility CR I say yeah we probably expand it to include spous the net was cast pretty wide and I don't know how sustainable it could be moving forward if you know so few people qualified we were almost down to the point where it's like has anyone at least seen full metal jackets like that was our [Laughter] next anybody saw PTSD Rec by recordr those are just some yeah those are good points right do we want to see about scheduling a meeting for next week this meeting yeah you know wouldn't be a bad we need to get moving on the reindeer run and we need to get moving on Veterans Day and just about everything else what do you guys think I'm flying home tomorrow for a week for vacation home home being Ohio be here but JD ly I mean are we just wait till August August is almost right around the corner anyway it is so what do we usually do it August 1st August 1 yeah this is wait till August 1st it's run around the cor weeks and then we can crack down on those things that we we need remember okay that works all right uh motion to adjourn we can't vote
