thank you thank you hey the committee reports Mrs Farley an instruction yeah about last week and there's really not much to report we just kind of went over a lot of the great initiatives that have been going on uh throughout the year and um things that we're looking forward to for the future thanks thank you Ming to Student Services Mr P thank you yes we also met on November 21st a few of the highlights um uh Administration explain that the YMCA the district's planning to move forward with YMCA memberships for students in uh the transition ition program is forte class from December to June um which is which is great um you know reinforcing uh uh the benefits of Healthy Lifestyles for those students um also our districtwide reading development teacher Miss Wallace uh ran a two-day workshop for um secondary English teachers and case managers um on you know focusing on Linguistics um understanding you know the functions and uh different details of of language functions strategies on grammar vocabulary punctuation for um the students that those case managers and teachers work with um and another highlight I thought was was was great we talked about this a little bit last month but it's it's in progress now um math interventionists will be training uh elementary teachers with uh resources for math class both based on multisens sensory instruction so professional development focused on multisensory math instructions in addition to what we already have for the the literacy um and uh that's the highlights thank you Mr moving on to finance Mrs Dy finance committee met on November 18th I touched on a few things uh one is an item that's on the agenda for tonight which is a per approval of the board to initiate the process of a competitive contract for our before and after care uh we are in the last year of our fiveyear uh contract well was it renews every year but we cannot renew after this year we have to go through another competitive process so the Board needs to approve that it's on the agenda uh and then we will be going through that process over the next few months to review before care providers for starting for next year uh we also talked about uh we've gotten information about Rising electric prices and the fact that our contract through Aces Aces was not able to award a bid that was beneficial for districts to save money uh so they're going to continue to monitor that but overall you know within the region electric prices are going to be going up we do have somewhat of a hedge against that with our solar PPA we do have a locked in price through our uh PPA agreement where we buy electric at predetermined prices so we are saving money on that but we cannot buy 100% through that contract so whatever we are buying uh we do through this Cooperative contract uh which we're going to have to keep an eye on to see if they're able to get something that would be more favorable for us for the future but this is something wouldn't be just a Middletown thing it's a regional thing uh we also did a very high level uh budget Outlook uh starting the budget discussions for next year uh looking at projected revenues you know some projected uh budget drivers so we will be U the administration's already started working on some strategies to address the challenges in next year's budget and that will be uh becoming a lot more of a focus over the next few months so and the last thing we talked about was uh we will be uh looking into the uh idea of Transportation waivers from parents we'll be uh soliciting those uh probably you know right after the holidays to see what the interest level would be from parents uh there is a provision that the the district can get a waiver from parents of their transportation then their their student would not be able to take you know they would be basically leave leaving their right to take a bus but we would then be able to incorporate uh that reduction in ridership into uh our transportation routes and potentially save money in that area so we you know we'll be looking at that to see if there's you know enough to make a significant difference there at transation and that's what we talk about in finance great thank you so much uh facilities Mrs minues um Mrs Dy has that report the facilities committee also meant on November 18th we did a review uh with our director of facilities Mr Nasser of projects that we were able to do during the November break uh we did some flooring at Leonardo we finished up some of the hbac at 8 uh High School South uh we're continuing to work on the link CFT Annex that's an ongoing uh project uh there is um approval of submission of plans you know to go to the New Jersey Department event uh we need that we are looking at to do for this agenda uh we also did gy FL refinishing over the winter break uh we are we talked about speaker replacement at the football stadiums I know that they worked on that today over in South for the Thanksgiving game so we should see improved sound uh tomorrow or I'm sorry on Thanksgiving for the game uh we also T talked about h looking into upgraded uh portable toilet facilities for the football stadiums next year so we're investigating that uh we did go over some recent maintenance issues you know some mostly hbac related issues that we're addressing that are uh things that have to be replaced such as boiler expansion tanks and hot water heaters uh some of those items are on the agenda for tonight uh we also talked about doing some improvements to the old front entrance at Ocean Avenue uh we also talked about an item that's on the agenda for South Jersey Turf to do some improvement to baseball and softball fields uh for the spring uh so that is uh on the agenda for tonight as well and we also discussed the opening of the portal for the local Recreation Improvement Grant uh we have applied for that for the last few years we've been successful in getting grants for River Plaza and for harmony uh the committee consensus was to put a application in for playground upgrades at new Mammoth for this year uh that Grant application is due January 31st and that was the highlights of our meeting great thank you Mr Dar okay we're not going to move to public comment on gender items only if anybody has a public comment please step V say your name and address the record one stepp forward the public comment move on right I just got two quick things to update everybody on one which was just uh told to us from Mr Miller sitting with us that he just got a nomination from interm Senator George helmy for the Naval Academy congratulations R just got to pull up an email that was sent to me also from Mr debowski if everybody remember Jake n Bowski was with us last year uh he writes I hope email finds you well you and your family I know you haven't emailed in a while but I want to give you an update on my progress with West Point in June I was selected and participated in summer Leadership experience at West Point 6,000 applied and a thousand of us were selected from across the country it was a week- long program and it simulated being a cat Cadet at West Point it was a great time and I learned more about the academy life and myself I was selected top Cadet best athlete and Gideon with my platoon and Squad I was extremely proud when I selected by the instructors at the end of the week as Behavior science and Leadership Excellence award Jake keeps amazing all of us and all he's doing and now he himself is has a interview with Congressman Smith's office December 7th for a uh nomination as well so best of luck to Jake he's great Ryan congratulations that's phenomenal very hand it over to Dr Al super attendant report great thank you um the first thing that I want to report on is um our sack results so for those um individuals who may not be aware of that process every 3 years the state does an audit of the total operational functioning of our district and that is in five different areas instruction and program fiscal management governance operations and Personnel so the process is um both submission of evidence and then a site visit where um representatives from the county come and they visit with school officials they visit at our schools um and various sites across our large District they usually try to hit one one or two at every level um then that evidence is evaluated in each of those five areas and we are accredited um different point values for all of the um performance indicators so in order to pass for lack of a better word each area you have to receive an 80% or higher in each area and I'm proud to report that we have achieved um above an 80% in all areas um this these were our percentages and we are required to report out on this um instruction in program we had an 83% uh fiscal management 96% governance 100% operations 98% and Personnel 92% um so those are really outstanding results given the fact that we have so many moving Parts um within our district and I just want to make mention of the 83% in instruction and programming a significantly large portion of that is um accounted for with student test scores so it's a lot of stuff that's not in our Direct Control um there is actually legislation at the state level because there are some districts that are quite High performing and do a great job yet can't pass inp because of the fact that there is such a hefty weight given to a test that happens on one day of the year or a couple days of the year rather so um our result was great we passed the area and certainly acred all of our other points other than you know some of those in those testing pieces per se but um the state is recognizing that that is problematic because for some really high performing districts that perform well in the other categories and have earned all of their other points they um still didn't pass the area so but this was a great result for us and it's also posted um on our district website for anybody to view so I'm also proud to announce um that a number of our schools have been recognized by US News and World Report as best in schools um all three levels had recognitions these schools will get the honor of displaying a banner and a plaque in their school and also getting to use the Insignia in their Communications um you know in their emails and on their letterhead Etc congratulations to nutswamp Lin coft Fairview Middle to Village River Plaza and Navin Elementary School on their designation as a best in elementary school um congratulations to Thompson Middle School for um best in middle schools in um New Jersey and we just found out that both Middletown High School North and Middletown High School South earned recognition as best in high schools for the state of New Jersey so congratulations um it's certainly something to be proud of um given there is a great number of our schools that are recognized so congratulations to those School communities we had our First Assembly with um the gentleman Tim rower that I had spoken about at um our last meeting he is an individual living with autism or who has autism and he visited Thorne middle school and gave um assemblies to our sixth seventh and eighth grade students and spoke about his experiences um really coming and and participating in the school environment as a student as an individual with autism um it was really great to see our students um so interested in engaging in a conversation and learning more about um inclusion and how to um build an inclusive community and Tim was fantastic um he he's very relatable the kids really um gravitated towards him and they they I think they walked away with a a different perspective and this assembly Tim is coming back to all 16 of our schools um between November and a lot of them are a lot of the assemblies are happening in April during autism awareness month but um I would anticipate that it is going to be equally well received in all of our buildings across the district so it was a really really positive experience for our students at Thor Middle School uh we also had our first strategic planning meeting this month so thank you to our parent volunteers administrators and Board of Ed members who participated the goal of this session was to analyze our current Mission value and belief statements and make adjustments and recommendations for revisions moving forward um in this next five-year strategic plan the administrative team is currently in the process of creating a new draft version with all of that feedback and we are it seems to be the consensus that we're going to move forward with a mission and a set of belief statements and not have the value statements and the vision statement because it seems more concise and a lot there's a lot of redundancy um when you have all of those things so we want to keep it meaningful and keep it really poignant so um our goal is to share the mission and belief statements out with the stakeholder feedback group when we come back in December um and then our next strategic planning meeting will be in um January in the new year uh Rec we also had a group of high school students visiting us from Spain I know Paige spoke about that in our Homestay Exchange program this was something that was approved on an agenda last year we had done it for a while had stopped doing it and Jen D Maria one of our world language teachers at High School North really worked hard um with um hummingbird tours to get this up and running again and thank you to the board for supporting this initiative but students from um a school in Spain got to spend two weeks here experiencing life with a host family in Middletown attending school going on day trips as Paige spoke about um and then our students will get to travel to these individuals school um in the spring so it is a true Exchange program it's short term um but it does give them a taste of the school experience the culture and the neat thing is you exchange with the people who come to visit you um which is unique to this opportunity so our students will be going to stay with the F with families of students that were just here staying with their families so the families become um you know connected in the process which is a really cool thing um so we're excited to to see how our students enjoy that experience um on the other side in in the spring so our Thanksgiving Day Day game is going on as planned I know there was some concern with the weather um but we are going to be moving forward with our game right on time right on schedule um it will be live streamed there is a link on website it will be broadcast by Pat remind me of the name big state Sports big state Sports um so we are excited for the day and the event it is a CommunityWide event but those of you who can't make the game you certainly can see the festivities on the live stream and it is actually a broadcast like they will be um announcing and doing play byplay on the game so after conducting several of my student forums already this year I've met with high schoolers middle schoolers and I just met with an elementary group today um it has become evident that the topic of homework is a big discussion amongst our student population and certainly um you know parents as well because I know that parents are the ones that are incurring um a lot of the tears and the struggles and the late nights that happen because of homework um so I think our best course moving forward is to convene a homework committee where it will be representatives from within the district um parents as well that will have a discussion about what is our philosophy and expectation on homework across the district one thing is for certain it's not consistent um we need to do a better job in consistency and certainly in the transitions between Elementary to middle and then middle to high school um keeping in mind the developmental level um the the the uh Merit of the assignments that we're giving and certainly we want to make them prepared for the next phase of their educational career um in a really mindful way so I am hoping that we can put our heads together and put something down that is common sense um supports our students without overburdening and overstressing them as well so we want to create that really really important balance that we know that is truly important to um you know students mental health and also parental sanity so um you know this I think will be a good move forward and certainly once we have that hammered out in some kind of detail we'll bring it forth to the policy Committee of the board for um more discussion um our elementary parent teacher conferences are going to be held in January they're coming so signups will be through the parent portal in Genesis in early December so keep an eye out for that um we're looking at potentially December 9th or 10th as the rollout date but we will publicize that once we come back from the Thanksgiving break night conferences for every school at the elementary level will be on January 22nd so that that will remain static but there is um a kind of a rolling schedule so please please please just um take a look at when your school and your the school and the child's grade level um is is scheduled for those conferences finally I just want to take a moment and wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving with those in their lives I want to express my sincere gratitude for the school Community um they say it takes a village and there's no greater Village than the one right here so thank you for the support that you have given um so that we can together continue to provide the best experience for our children um this is a time of year where we all get a moment to pause and reflect and I think um you know that we all get to be a part of something greater than ourselves um and truly a great District I think um is something we all can be grateful for so thank you and have a great Thanksgiving thank you Dr let have some optimism for Thursday who know we get some in between 85 better than 100 all right I need a student acting it it just goes to show that you know our arts and programs are really um beneficial to our students and um also before the north play there was a senior lunch in the senior Citizens Center came in they were very excited to be here they were served lunch from The mtea Who provided it and then they got to see the show and listening to their comments about our student actress was remarkable but I think it was really great for them to come in and see what's going on in our schools and to see what our students can accomplish that's what I want to say thank you very much does
