four District polls and 14 different action plans underneath that we are addressing mental health this year uh exploring ways to evaluate and innovate learning opportunities uh security protocols as well as long range facility plans and other things so we accomplished all 14 of those action plans and those go goals and the board has all the information about that so uh just want to report this out and we'll be working on our future goals at the end of this meeting also we just were recognized um we were just Rec organized for the 9th year in a row for mle Township Public Schools receiving the best communities for music education from the National Association of Music merchandisers this Foundation is designed and awarded by the name of n Foundation to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement and efforts to provide music access and education to all students the bcme award recognizes the commitment of teachers students and administrators Board of Education members and parents who believe in the value of music education and are working to ensure that it's part of the complete education for their children so 9 years in a row that's quite outstanding a great job on that we have uh something that's unusual and this just something that in particular we have to note there's a bus driver in town who's been working currently works for odow bus company and M Sheila Francisco has been working for 56 years as a bus driver in town and she's probably driven many of you around uh throughout your years she'll be completing her last bus drone this Thursday at 11:30 so for all his work along with his whole committee along with the board subcommittee that worked on that so that's a lot of work and a lot of hours going into that so exciting news is there as well and then of course we're celebrating all the retirees and our students and and the shop right stores so tonight's a wonderful night of all these wonderful achievements that we you know that come to fruition after four years and even this one year um coming all together so we're really happy about that and that's my report do you want to get any business report first we get all the awards no your legacy will live on in the hearts and in the minds of those who touch and thank you congratulations and [Applause] than if I have Charlie stand here then I've made it in good evening everyone my name is Doug sford High School principal standing next to me is Mr James Queen a member of our science department um I'm going bring some prepared words first and then talk more off the C from the heart um Jim is a former Princeton University distinguished secondary school teacher award recipient at High School uh he started teaching in 1997 at St Petersburg St Petersburg basball in Florida as a chemistry physical science for the science teacher there he also coached JB football and girls track stepped away from education for a few years before getting back into the teaching profession in 2004 in Massachusetts moving to New Jersey where he started teaching at rco Indian Hills High School he was there for 6 years hopefully I got the numbers and dates all spot on uh in 2014 about 10 years ago and heard me say this countless time for I'm going to say it in this form too in October of 2014 and I've said it in public settings best midseason pickup ever best free agent ever um really landed in the high school couldn't have found a better time and made an instant impact in various Ty courses and co-curricular activities and had a terrific impression and influence on all his colleagues he's coach he's advised uh different clubs at school he's been a mentor to other teachers students RVE about taking his different science classes um and I know when I can speak for Dr Schwarz when I say this um we rely on J Queen for so many different things um he's really become a pillar of our science department which we're very proud of we consider to be one of our strongest departments at the high school um and most much of that is due to the solid foundation the rock solidness of this James Queen in terms of supporting our students as well as uh supporting his colleagues um Jim and I have had conversations over the past few years uh talking about the most important things in life I know that he's stepping away from education after almost a quarter Century in education to really uh dedicate time to the most important things in life um and I have to brag for a second you know if he looks like he's in incredible shape it's because he is uh him and his wife he told me just the other day they like 28 miles from Frenchtown to lamberville and back Frenchtown to New Hope and back me anybody knows the canals along the Del River you know that's not an easy or short drive apparently Mr and M easy um high school is going to be at a loss starting next year because we're losing one of the PS of our school um I say that know from the heart I mean it sincerely um I've always valued the conversations I've had with Jim I know so many other people have um yeah M won't be the same soend so best of luck in retirement and thank you for so hey I'm good joining me up here is M Tammy bombard a former teacher of the year at M Township High School and I apologize in advance of some of the things sound like a rep um they are certainly going to sound similar um let me talk some things about Tammy's P I believe Tammy spent uh 19 years in loal Township High School almost 35 years in the field of Education starting in 1989 uh going through a few different school districts she also picked up a ba in biology from the College of L cross a postback teacher certification and comence of science from State and a master's in Ministry of Science and fairly dickon think I talk about with Miss bbard in addition to being an advisor at the various clubs over the years and teaching numerous different courses and helping students achieve at the highest levels in the field of science particularly biological sciences um and I think it was one of our last comp of science um the um what really goes down or or or what was lost at Mel Township High School is the idea that when I joined M Township High School three 13 years ago um there were very strong personalities uh in school and certain departments had very um um big bold personalities that commanded had a presence um throughout the school about the students St by the community um as those people moved on from M Township High School for various reasons there was this vacuum that was on this period um you these these big bold presence individuals had left the school and they were shoes to f um and you never knew what type of person was going to step into that in science it became very clear that Miss Cy bombard was the person who stepped into that Ro and I don't think she did it purposefully I don't think she did it saying I'm going to be the one that's going to step up and take that role she was unknowingly hoisted into that role by her col because time and time again every time you talk to other season teachers in the science department and throughout the school or novice teachers you know people who are new to the profession all they would say were words that sounded like I want to be like Tammy bombard in the classroom I want to have her dedication I want to have her care for students I want to have her organization her ability her knowledge her pedagogical skill um that's what you've heard over and over again in the science department and around the school and I think that came across when it was her colleagues that chose her te for the years Kenny left us Midway through the year um to move on to some things uh that going on in personal life similar to Mr Jim Queen there was a huge loss to the science department you know starting in September we'll have a very different science department a strong size CL it won't be the same without this bombard there I can say that on behalf of the students who have had her um I can say that on behalf of colleagues who have worked with her um there definitely a missing presence uh big shoes to fill um but we do wish her the best of luck and her retirement you know we thank her so much for years of service it's really made a huge impact on the school that'll last years to come the best of luck and [Applause] congratulations e years [Music] [Applause] [Music] Happ [Music] so congratulations to all our retirees uh not quite retiring but you are leaving us better things Ryan so you and AA we want to thank you for everything you've done as ours it's not the easiest GA a lot of information to report out get to sit and to a lot of our conversations and we want to thank you for everything you did we have two board resolutions for you and your partner and Prime uh that'll be officially included in the minutes forever so you you show your kids and your grand kids later on that you actually do this but congratulations and we want to thank everything you've done this past year so thank you very much [Applause] [Music] stuc whereas Ryan Serv Extinction on board of education and where Charlie uh Karen C hillison Charlie hildale no report Joe Valley View Val who had a PTA meeting the last one year yesterday um they just discussed their they had the upcoming Tricky Tray for the fall they did their elections for their offices the next year um was John okay Mike last Thursday last meeting of the year the traditional last meeting your Venue a good stack forth okay Elle uh Mike rort High School okay uh it's talked about uh the netia Poli caringa mentioned that there 330 in the morning weeks ago AC on June 4th with the assistance of a mediator Board of Education and long C Education Association reached a Ted agreement at mediators requests the terms of the contract are confidential at this time um I just wanted to add that as in years past it was a it was a pleasure negotiating with the association our negotiations remain respectful friendly uh and productive it wasn't always easy times were not always easy uh but we got it done in a very respectful way and I'm able to reach a tentative agreement uh before uh School ended uh before school ends um so I wish the mtea a happy safe and restful summer in particular the mtea negotiating committee who worked very hard to reach the agreement thank you and next time we're going to try get three [Music] I did you did okay um and we have contracts for the other [Music] two sett with the administrators as you know I think now get raises contract and by everybody and the supervisor Joe is a chairman I would like to thank him for sharing it we do have a member agreement I understand they have sign the contract also that right so therefore we'll set with them for July 1 also excellent I want to thank you that thank you Joe other just than everyone on the as well thank you yeah negotiations are not easy as you all know they're not they're not a joy but they are a necessity and we do have a great deal respect for our St our teachers and I think they respect us and so we know that we're doing a job important job we get it done okay public participation anything on the agenda you have any comments for anything on the agenda any questions please come to the microphone and tell us your name and seeing none I ask for a consent resolution on items I through n second okay any questions on the minutes SE J questions just one comment on Jay with the calendars uh just two quick revisions we have uh for the 24 25 calendar we had to move one of the half days on June 17th and put it on May 23rd uh we just didn't update that earlier and for the 25 26 calendar year we just did not include the half day before Thanksgiving so we parents should be made aware of that okay item uh okay Finance questions on any of those items uh personel item L any questions and then lastly not lastly but uh curriculum section m and lastly anything policy nothing in policy so okaye Mr gr yes on everything except Mr yes and anything on Section che9 Dr Cina yes Mrs F yes Mr Pama I'm St on section and everything else Mr P yes Mr [Music] rapor yes Miss zman Dr yes okay uh is there any are there any old business items people business think so okay section R General board comments and business um want we take care of the board and District H real quick um dist first okay so these are the same goals that we had last year and we're just going to continue them going forward we've done a lot of progress on these goals and and as we said last time that we just keep on changing the action plan and underneath them so each one of these we have say two or four different action plans underneath each one of these pools and we Contin making progress over the years so I would likely keep them the same as we move forward um I'll just reiterate that first one is Implement enhance and evaluate ways to address mental health uh the second one is explore and evaluate inov learning opportunities for all students the third one is continue to evaluate the Safety and Security Protocols of the district and the fourth one is monitor the completion of current construction projects and evaluate distri facilities and long range facility plan does anybody have any comments on the district HS comments from the board members onri right so um then why don't we hold off on a vote on those and put them in with the board goals now we had a dozen board goals that were suggested to the board uh I asked for your comments and what you thought were the top four goals I narrow down to top five and from here I like to take the top three that's possible okay so the first one and we'll take the comments after each go first one was provis the District administration um to enable the yeah Provide support to The District administration to enable a successful completion of construction aspect and Facilities across the district this is the same as last year does anybody have a comment on that qu comments okay the second one was to increase communication with the community to ensure transparency and continued collaboration anybody have any comments on that one the third one was to establish a process to measure School wellness and cl and use the data to inform practice to create Positive Growth engag students and a healthy sense of belonging within the dist anybody have any comments on that one okay the fourth one was to attract develop and retain excellent quality staff with a focus on relevant professional development through mindfulness and cultural responsiveness and 21st century teaching strategies you com I do okay um I love this one except um the cultural responsiveness responsive um I feel like we do SE same job from when the kids are young till they get older um I feel as though I I want to hire I want our administrators to hire the best and brightest but not concern themselves with certain things seen it in other school districts where some will hire based on cultural um responsiveness and then Halloween is taken away so I I just want the best and I also feel like it can put more on our teachers that may they don't need um and that it is not required so that just that one section I would ask so you just want to stop a professional development for period correct so what would it read like so it would then read uh will attract develop and retain excellent quality staff that focus on relevant professional development that's one of us perfect do that's four that's number four does anybody have a comment on that as well yeah I'm okay with that but I I say stop sooner than that stop it and the Board of Education will track develop and retain excellent quality staff [Music] I don't have any ISS that has written I think we need to be aware that our demographics are changing we have greater diversity and anything that can help a child feel more comfortable by a teach having some knowledge of your culture helps the child helps the student and I I don't I wouldn't want to see um a student feel un because no one was aware of their culturism their original so you keep the entire thing as okay thir um you mentioned a tra yes um I recommend dropping this form it's a great goal to have but the way it's written is a attracting quality staff and that's more the job of for and his staff overseeing we're not advertising we're not hiring I think the other goals speak more to what a board can do help TR we are just supporting Dr War making sure that he has everything he needs to hire [Music] right that's op I actually think it's confusing ways word because you can interpret the mindfulness and social responsiveness to being in how you're hiring is how I I agree with Karen that we need um you know teachers to be aware of of our diversity and mindfulness and everything going on today but I think the way this is wording lead to a lot of different interpretations which probably doesn't serve the whole well any end I would just drop it have com five I think two and four probably being work admin [Music] I iend to agree on dropping number four but again we're going to go on our top three so let me just read the this go and we'll take a vote on which ones we think are most important okay so the fifth one is collaborative teaching learning and and assessment environment that inspires creativity Innovation and differentiation to support all lears anybody have a comment on that well it looks from the comments that everyone just gave us it looks like go number four is probably off the table okay so let me just ask um let me just go through the list beginning with go number one I'm going to ask you're going to get three votes give me your top three votes okay four [Music] goals sure who wants four goals me hand how about we drop number four that's it there we go we're done congratulations you have your goals now we have to have a vote on the goals so we have number two I mean what can we do do I think communication well there there is an action plan underneath and so there would be items there for the administration to propose in order to improve communication with the district the I think that's a reasonable thing just think that I don't think that communication Now bigest problem so I think I don't think is important need to be a distri go I think improve [Music] okay we have I think excellent job communicating to the community and we don't need to increase it we can continue our rate but not as not as to increase not not as a goal want to see increased communication to the community I I I I think it's worth I think it's worthwhile just because communication is so challenging today all of the different methods in social media and people rely on it in different ways and approach it in different ways and um you know St does an amazing job but I I do think in today's times it's a worthwh goal for us to keep eyes on yeah and I I think that the referendum not passing wasn't a result of poor communication but perhaps in some residents Minds it they didn't feel communicated to enough I believe that I've heard that from board members on the board um that some people in the community we didn't do enough communication so there's a lesson to be learned there and I would I say we vote I say we vote to do any anyone else have any other comments on that I asked for comments ear I didn't get them but we got them now so I'd like to go ahead and just ask PRI we we raised $1,200 thank you to each and every one of you I reach that uh the town relay uh which was on I would say raised as of U last week $65,000 and the um schol donate through August um and since I have the mic I did attend the Chinese School graduation on June 9th and also I attend people's retirement in we had a very nice time any other comments from the board okay before we leave though another public participation if you have any comments on any item whether on the agenda or off the agenda anything you want to say at all to the district please come to the microphone give us your name address and let us know what to think 11 D and I come here speak here for is something I want to address um our young our little son is in Maring be senior this year um we were informed earlier this year that the marching G is going to be traveling to the footall gam and we got a month ago [Music] I email they used to travel years ago to it was taken away years ago before I was involved Wasing I don't know why um and all the kids want to do all the parents want to do it and wared was going to happen taken away and honestly it's a little embarrassing because every single time I'm at the home game every single March from the opposing team is there I know the che leaders I believe go to the away games I believe you can't find pling games bus understand it's not a funding issue but we that's people Mr said that they was cut from the [Music] budget to do it we all love to do it and if we can make it happen that would be anything that we can do on our to [Music] help my and of and I have I know that I share the same disappoint as and finances and all that I was disppointed feel like I did my part in supporting it um disint the result however I now as a parent looking at my little fiveyear boy and going into kindergarten class side is 49 students and there are two kindergarten classes so we're looking at class 24 25 um and my understanding is that the third not split third kindergarten room until we reach over 26 students per class so that's 26 5y old obviously now they all the time pretty frequently um and again simply speaking from my perspective my five-year-old is a very good reader he tested out of every single kindergarten assessment that they gave him um he can read on first level and I have multiple teachers in our family and everyone has shared with me the kids who end up getting kind of the short end of when it comes to High achiever in um which is natural that's that is simply the way it's going to go um but so that means that as KN he is not to [Music] atton um I attended the where I think the Aver size model all the different was 20 children um that might have changed but that is what was said in the meeting I believe the meeting immed students obviously have have are than that certainly not arguing that um but to have that be a kindergarten classroom I think is is really really dangerous to the standards that we uphold here in and and to have hille um to have students very normal to have who to have it's very normal to have K who don't know all of their letters can't count very high and then you have children like my son who is is doing great and and that's wonderful it's not that's support is to help get everyone more on the um to hand two teachers 26y old I think is really really disappointing um and I'm simply asking another I know that the is moving so is my understanding being useful but I would love to know what is being prioritized over that regarding class um again this is simply coming an emotional looking so I have talk to both teachers and ass them that I will work with them and try to up my child at home um but I also guarantee them that I would send an email and that I would be here and I would be the voice just trying to share my disappointment and my hly um another look around to yeah so first of all thank you for your support ref we really appreciate it and it seems like you really understand the issues that know we're facing so over the sum we always look at all the enrollments we'll take a look at that you know we have kids moving in kids moving out so you don't want to make a decision too early as that goes but as we see over the next couple weeks what's going on with the enrollments the will then make a decision about if make the splitter class that but uh that might resol the issue this year but going forward it's become more and more difficult that is one of the reasons why we move the special program over valy VI to create some more space because it is going to be an issue so uh we are going to be looking at that in the next couple weeks but we do hold off till the summer time to see what truly happens with all the movements I I don't want to split it yet because I have five kids move out 5 know so we hav to figure that out but we'll be looking at that and we'll making another decision and saying um can you tell me is there a different in place currently for that I I don't know top my head I have talk the principle about that but yeah the board and the board does have a limit so we're right at that spot where the bo limit is and you are correct the numbers were lower and they are increasing a little bit across the board yes um I believe the highest kindergart in the class was 22 students which last year this current 22 students now currently looking at 24 25 at [Music] 22 app apprciate concerns and we are also very concerned about en in space and Administration will work as hard as make sure anyone [Music] else are you saying that it's a possibility based on how things happen over the summer that there could be a third class yeah I mean if you have to say you have like five more kids move in they all up to 50 something you'd have to split that class just it just be too difficult and then we'd have to really make some hard decisions about how what the ripple effect is with the rest of the school if the numbers were to stay the way they are and things shook out where there was a a teacher and there was a classroom is that a possibility or well then I so right so we'll look at the numbers and then I have to come back to the board and say you know what we have a classroom numbers warranted and then we need another teacher and we have to start looking in the summer of the high so so we do this every single summer so we look at the numbers every summer and then we make a decision the board then decides sometime in July or you know early August if you have to and then you give you the okay and then we make decisions whichever way it goes you know June is the month where everyone seems to be all the houses flipped and that's when we get our greatest influx and they have to register that know that in town and yeah July a fin it's hard to when could a member of the public find out you decision made uh well I mean we again we'll be looking at but it'll be late July we I got to see how the movement starts going as we see things trending we a decision that we coming back to the board I'm saying this just by way of back because I was hearing some things happen with regard to marching B I'm not trying to interject myself with a decision or anything like that I'm saying this just an an in questions as to why things might have happen long before this present Administration in effect um historically I don't know if everybody remembers back in like 2010 when we had the massive budget cost what happened at that time was that the B budget was cut 50% and the athletic budget is not cut and the grand parents were enraged now they were taking $5,000 to send the band for ws and band parents at that time had philosophy saying you know you're big go the awaking and why don't we take that $5,000 and put it back in oural and forget about going to the wakings and that was when the Dan stopped going to the wakings um at that time I think we were doing a l more competitions than they were and at that time is how to win from people because I think at that time I don't know if it's way it's that at that time the general philosophy of people in B on a Friday night they probably have a competition the next day and if they wanted to do anything on a Friday night it wasn't going to be treking to burn into the playing stands it was going to be being on our own field to practice our competition for tomorrow so that was really the history of how it happened that the B stop going to now if that's if the process of the band is different now I don't know but that's something that you work I'm just um the administration will take care of that g it and and work with the parents and d and um seeing no other comments from the public I'll close that section of the meeting I ask thank you so much second okay good night everyone see July
