to have advanced notice of to attend meetings of public bodies at which any business affecting their interests is discussed or acted upon in accordance with the provision of the act the monville Township Board of Education provided a public notice of this meeting which included the time dat and location that was posted at the monville Township Municipal Building all Mel Public Schools the Mel Public Library the monel Township Board of Education administrative office building the district website and advertised in the Daily Record and the monville tapped into the board's official newspapers on January 28 [Music] 2024 uh yeah so we're going to start off with some stuff that happened in the recent past so on May 8th the New Jersey music educators associate accepted two mths students to the All State chorus and they were davani Sharma and Alex Tara Miss Sharma was accepted for the second year in a row and M off was ranked as the number six tener second in his first year auditioning in addition Joseph amaroso was one of four students in the state who was awarded the New Jersey Governor's award for the Arts and education we are exceptionally proud of these two students and we appreciate the leadership mentorship and guidance provided by the teacher Mr Ted try also on May 13th then Harrison Noah Brower as well as Sophia and Luan conis Sophia sh Chella and re dermit organized and hosted the national Meo Don program registry event at MCHS and MTP finds matches for bone marrow and stem cell transplants for Chans suffering from leukemia lym and other life-threatening blood diseases interested MTS students had to be over the h8 and register online before getting the inside of their CH swad Also earlier the small students in biotechnology were the first students in New Jersey to take the BAC exam and they are now certified to work in Labs Across the Nation on May 16th 37 William Mason graduates returned to the elementary school with the Junior Achievement program these former students empowered future entrepreneurs at William Mason with a day of career Readiness and then AP testing went from May 6th to May 17th earlier this month students will hear back with their scores early in July and then also starting tomorrow through Friday will be the makeup dates for students who missed exams or had multiple exams scheduled on the same date now moving some on to some stuff happening in the present starting off with Junior Rashid Hassan who is an AP art AP Studio art student and he is currently hard at work on a mural that he has been creating in one of the hallways at nths this mural is a labor of love that Rashid has been planning for most of the school year and we can't wait to see the finished product also the mths bands orchestras and Choir concerts today and yesterday consisted of both large and small groups there was also student artwork reflecting the music each evening and the concerts were free to any attendance the baseball team holds a record of 14 and 12 and they face Sparta on Thursday for the first round in their state tournament the softball team holds a record of 9- 15 Junior pitcher Danielle AIA recently had her 200th season strikeout on the mound and their next game versus ultan is Thursday today for the state tournament the boys lacrosse team holds a record of 9 and8 and they play Lakeland tonight before mendum in States on Thursday the girls lacrosse teams has a season record of 9 and 10 they had a big big winning streak and hopes to continue it versus Cranford tomorrow for States boys golf holds a steady season record of 10 and four senior Elon caufman finished in second place overall in the entire state of New Jersey at the county tournament while winning the individual group 2 New Jersey State title the girls golf team is on fire with an 8 to1 record and the team plays in the NJ tournament tomorrow morning Boys Tennis has a record of 5 and 14 and is looking to get a win against Sparta tomorrow for the first round of the state tournament the G black football team ended their season over the weekend against Redwood and States they finished the season 5 2 and three senior captains a f and Courtney Bena will play one final game at Keen University as they were selected to be on the North team for the Phil Sims north south allstar game and the track and field team recently had big place finishers in many areas of the sport and counties last week it included lar Tas sixth place finish in the 100 reader a f sixth in the javelin Daria shipjack fourth in the Pall Alexa Amoroso Sophie Hummer Sierra Turner aari tataa third place in the 4x400 met reine and Alex P third place in the 800 m in addition to his gold medal performances in both the 3200 M and the 1600 M and Alex was able to improve on all of his school records in all these three races the girls freshman team also won counties at the freshman sophomore County Championship 2 weeks ago now some things happening in the future the second annual laa vary hockey cornhole tournament will take place on Saturday June 8th it's $50 for any team under 18 and $ for any adult team the goal is to raise the most money for our hockey team the first annual combined mths science Symposium will be on May 29th at 6:30 p.m. beginning in the High School auditorium students in science design and research research in molecular biology and biotechnology classes will be presenting the highlights of the research they have performed throughout the year and on Friday May 24th seniors will be having their senior breakfast at the Mansion at lakes and finally on Thursday May 30th the senior prom will be at the Grove thank you thank you very much and good luck this week ex all right will you B so we have the principal herei coming up here miss coming up talk to us about the T Marketplace Club just before the meeting started we were able to get quick presentations from everybody very exciting uh there students in fifth grade who participated this year in our CHS program so thank you friends and family for coming tonight and uh what I'd like to do is introduce the teacher who or start a program tell you a little bit about it and then uh two of our students can speak specifically to their product hi I'm Mrs Aon um this is my eth year join TRS at Willam Mason it's so exciting to see each year new things and new ideas that they always come to the TR marketplace with I just want to introduce everyone who's here then I'll let two of our friends um speak um so Jack you want to stand up stand up um Riley Penny Regina Bella Olivia and AR Anda back here um andina and we're just going to come up and just tell you a little bit you guys can sit down okay you just got to pull close okay last summer during summer camp Bella taught me how a crochet and since then we've loved doing it together and so when TRS came around we thought why not just piure something so over here you can see some of the stuff that we made and yeah we went to traps and we were very excited because it's something that we are very passionate about we love crocheting we have like designed our own I've designed my own things we've like come up with ideas of what to make cuz it's fun for us and we have some things over there we have taken orders too because we've sold out of some things and it's just really for us love taking orders ready we have to ma next so thank you so so much for sharing we also have I also got my uh cartoon book so I'm excited to put that up in the board office so thank you for that and proud to introduce our extraordinary music teacher Mrs Samantha Ivans and our equally extraordinary media specialist Mrs Mary Grace Miss Mary Grace and I want to give a special shout out to MEF for providing us with equipment to do our videos we're very happy to use it and we're learning to be broadcasters and newscasters each day um Mrs sens is going to introduce our [Music] crew um good evening as Dr kenned said Thank you again MF for providing the equipment so that our students could learn how to kind of dip their toes in newscasting um we did six broadcast cast this year all centered um on our character education curriculum and tying in the current events of our school so without further Ado I would like our four fifth graders in AB Club Bazi St linger and Paul C to come up and introduce our [Music] video hi we are Paul daa zo and and we are fifth gr members of club with fing with funding made possible by the M education fund our a club is made up up of fourth and fifth grade students we are the Creator and host of the positive perspective we have been learning about different aspects of creating a news broadcast we have been working we have been hard at work on both fashion design and script writing as well as working both behind and front of the camera our efforts have made it possible to bring Valley View school's latest happenings to our school and the public each month we have been focusing on our interviews on our Panda Pride character tra our February character characteristic was positive in this month's broadcast one of our interviews was with Miss Caitlyn Smith our PTA president whose hard work fundraising has allowed us to construct a new playground ,000 how do they do this and how they let's find out Mrs um it took about 5 months to raise enough money to make the first half playground and then once we bought that in September they were able to install it in February did you so we are actually very luy we have a large space for playground here at B and the playgrounds are very very expensive so we decided to break it up into two parts so that we can get boys and girls for in school this year the chance to play on the first half of it while we raise money to finish building the second half of it how you we ra the money through e fundraisers like the Apex fund run that was a big part of the money that we raised from the playground we also had a 50th anniversary party for Val and we raised a lot of and our hotun program raises a lot of money so all that added together help us buy the first half of the [Music] playground we paid $45,000 for the playground cost $85,000 so we applied for what's called a grant where the company makes the playground paid for a portion for us how how do you we had a catalog FR from the company and he gave us a bunch of options so we selected ones that we thoughty the most from that lot what was so first we had to someone from it's called game time they came to value and we walked around the whole playground talked about where we wanted to break it apart to um do the first half and then he measured the whole area he sent some options for what we can put in there I gave my feedback on what he first sent and then he revised them and sent me new ones and then we put it out to all the families at valum and they took a vote on which playground they went the best and that's one to be watch you do you the color scheme we had a couple of options and this one had the most blue in it and since blue is Val color that's the um my kids have gone to value for the last about 12 years and I thought throughout that time that it playground will be sprued up a little bit and then came to find out we've had this playground for over 25 years so I just it would be a nice addition to the enough money well we got order for company so I didn't have to make any part of it once we paid them they brought in their own installer and they shipped all materials here and the installer put it in the playround put it in the ground for us what what why it seems like the others School were doing pretty well and we had come up with any other ideas we recently done an outdoor classroom for Value so we to S fixing up the outside what is the main the main thing um I like that there's a little rock wall added to it and a couple of slides so IUN and then we're looking to add I would say was it started out at an 8 and then became like a four once we started doing all four so theying all the first the inial decisions were hard I'm happy with it I think it will be a better [Music] finish I've told it's been thank you everybody it's wonderful to see the AB Club in action seeing the nef uh Grant that's helping us and then just that whole interview showing us how we work with people HSA the PTA throughout the whole district and getting that interview so that was exclusive stuff so great stuff I really appreciate it how is the program all thumbs up look at that all right I love it thank you thank you so much thank you for the teachers for everything you do for us appreciate that thank you [Applause] all everybody [Music] at me will everybody else chance to take okay uh so last week I mean you just saw some wonderful stuff that's going on at the elementary school s gr you get a nice variety we had a lot of musical performances and now youve seen the you know the entrepreneurial Club the AB Club so that's wonderful stuff last week we had living lessons that was my first living lessons and that was wonderful we had over 40 something presenters there and the whole school participated uh I got to as many of the different presentations as I could but it was just outstanding seeing the students participate and just uh the stories and how it was resonating and then listening to the end about the connect you didn't never know if you're connecting with the kids and at the very end when they asking questions you see that things were going on in their minds during the whole presentation so I can't say enough about all the staff at at Lazar how they put them together as well as Judy godal and Daniel Barky when she did a great job so uh just incredible and that was Judy's last one um so it happens every two years so over the past 20 years we've had 10 presentations incredible incredible production yeah let me just Echo if anyone else want to say as well living lessons is a truly amazing event have a lot of friends who live in other parts of the country other towns and it really does impress upon them what we're doing here and bringing those speakers in and giving them a sense of the past both you know some motivation and encouragement and showing them how to persevere it it really does impact them whether they know it or not else I actually right after the program sent an email to Tom and what I said was I wanted him to know how proud I was to be part of the district ring to put in work in time to produce and ex incredible program like lessons and I as to Danielle staff and I signed from a grateful board M because it wasn't teachers and parents help [Music] and accept and understanding just and we had so many parents for the HSA helping out the whole event work so okay um on no report okay um there is a lot of good news as you as you've heard and continue to hear lots of good things in the school please take a look uh section g committee reports uh Finance facilities car thank David so uh right before read this evening the finance and Facilities met we talk about summer and fall capital projects fees for me and busing rental fees for use of facilities and um he also talked about an SDA Grant the business office filled out and was awarded so special thank you to ptin Dian and the business staff it was for $64,000 and we're going to be using that to the safety projects okay thank you uh Michelle uh just to knowe that the adoption of per for approval is on the agenda of the college Joe policy Personnel no report okay uh my report communication no report pristine safety security no report okay no adops uh on New Jersey School Board Association car uh thank you again uh the board of directors met on May 3rd um and briefly we talked about our finances we had a financial update njsp is an excellent Financial positioning um and a large part of that is due to a very successful work at23 um and this upcoming Workshop is also expected to exceed the revenue targets um njpa Coop purchasing program has also exceeded expectations um there are three speakers already lined up for this year's Workshop ad s senior director of Education partnership for roblocks uh John pones is a broadcast journalist author and motivational speaker spent 40 years with ABC maybe you're familiar with his name you probably are familiar with his face um he currently hosts the show what would you do uh and the third keynote speaker is Sonia Manzano who's best known for playing Maria on Sesame Street so maybe some of you remember that as well uh Workshop also feature programs like Heroes scho Lo form and steam tank discuss was uh the executive director's goals governance one had a reboot um and there will be a federal federal advocacy task force looking at developing a rubric that would guide current and future njpa leadership during uh annual consideration regarding membership and National Organization schs that's it meting the uh yeah no I'm sorry okay uh moris count for uh Michelle um yeah the meeting was held on May 2nd at Roxbury High School uh Montville student Sophia Karis actually received the unsung hero scholarship for her work with her Girl Scout Gold Award project and Beyond uh with her stem cell uh donation initiative and uh awareness um as well David modra was recognized uh for his 10 years as service of the school board member and Joe D was also recognized for becoming both a certified board member and a master board member [Applause] conat congratulations 10 years 10 years and you're getting Master that's good you know never stop moving right that's right okay uh speaking of Joe uh moris County Education Services uh they had a meeting on May 8th uh just general business as usual but at our next meeting we will be doing the oranization of the bo directors and drug awareness uh drug awareness uh we had our community event on April 25th at the SE house we had over 100 M of um had some great speakers uh providers were there information um we looking to and uh lastly I also was able to attend New Jersey Network anual Conference last Friday city um everyone from all the the state where attend you know again more workshops and stuff very thank you Charlie I met two weeks ago and reorganized board of directors okay uh Jo actually sorry uh Karen C Hill Le uh Cedar Hill uh home school met on May 6 um we talked about some of their updates there'll be a d donate in June for Dian uh there will be a fun fair tomorrow May 22nd a talent show on May 24th a fourth grade Wellness Fair on May 29th and a carnival Day on May 30th and the last is on June 4th kindergarten parent orientation for all incoming kindergarten parents that's a lot of fun okay hildale Charlie no Joe uh they met last uh John not hereon M pal is not here I know they I think wont recently had a fi uh some kind of Carnival or field day down there it looked like it was well attended from TR but uh Christine Lazar so Michelle and I W unable to attend the meeting but they were gracious enough to send us their minutes so I have them here they had a virtual meeting on May 13th um they talked about living lessons um steam day which will be on May 31st um for the eth grade Dan all they talked about that and all the eighth graders are invited to take pictures before at Lake balla they want to thank all the volunteers um and especially the MEF for providing to high school seniors with scholarships which will be awarded to um which will be awarded um to prospective teachers at the senior award tonight uh they had a book fear which was um well attended and teachers got um the books um for the promotion there will be two tickets for the high school gym provided that day at practice for kids to take home it will be streamed live and sign will cast an auditorium for over of families um the PTC scholarships they pick their winners for the senior award night um and they want to thank um thank you so much from the teachers they had a great week it was I guess staff appreciation week uh they had a luncheon from babos bakus and ice cream and that's about it uh my PR for high school it's the uh last meeting uh of the year uh we met on May 88th uh most of the uh discussions were around the end of the year activities so uh versus the AP exams uh are mostly done at this point uh there's still a Makeup Session I think on this Friday for anyone who missed any a exam wrting conflict njsa njsla testing for n9th and 11th graders is also uh wrapping up um they also published a new final exam uh taking into account the the feedback that's been received over the past couple of uh sessions um showns that if you take EP exams or if you otherwise qualify it's at 93 average over over all through the year um you can get exempt from the final exam um so that does free up time and schedule at theend end of the year for uh other things to happen um the teachers they really appre appr the teacher appreciation lunch though it was held back in the uh the beginning of May um and in June the PTC is going to sponsor an additional teacher breakfast uh just to show appreciation for the teachers of hard work that do other than that there's a lot of talk about thear senior events that are in progress they already started and will be continuing through the end of the school year with graduation so it's Time pro years yes okay uh moving on to negotiations Karen and we are meeting on June 3 with Association Andor Charlie mtaa I'm happy to report that we have successfully negotiated a fouryear contract and it's on the agenda for Action tonight I would like to thankful all of those that were involved in the process and uh it was very very enjoyable we tried something new this year just one-onone and it worked out very well we had support from other group other individuals but really was something I for my Jun in future okay and Joe MTS a uh we're working with the representatives to forget how you made them feel we are deeply grateful for compassion and dedication I did [Music] did I was sad to hear that you retiring but on the she's going forward she is a Vanguard for inclusion acceptance and and a b against Prejudice buling and bracis she needs a moral compass [Music] and and I would also Echo those comments by my colleagues up here uh I've known jie for a few years now and she was an amazing teacher when my daughter had her and I really applaud her efforts of keeping living lessons alive that again a truly amazing program and I'm very thankful that she was here to set that up I just also to say that uh it's very sad to see help retiring my daughter had her in laar U for English and uh she's excellent teacher she was very inspirational and uh did a lot of work for the students to make sure that their time and USR was happy very productive and uh all of her work and pulling together living lessons every single uh time every two years was it's an amazing amount of work and that the has been this yeah I [Music] think I also just thank all of the people that J been for many many years to teach here she did it had a very good relationship uh even though we disagreed at times but uh I wish her well really do hope to be uh know the Legacy to less I [Music] uh also also in that department uh in the union Department we have Nancy Bosman she's retiring she's dedicated 17 years at teaching English language arts at Lazar Nancy has known for her Open Table discussions where she encourages students to discuss ideas and questions about writing and literature the passion for stud expression also led to scores of student made magazines um showcasing some of their proudest work nany's influence has left a mark on both our students and our community we're come to the microphone seeing none we'll move on to Old business general for comment new business um I did have something to raise real quick you mind I sent you all an email about board goals and I heard that from several of you um right now the consensus is for goals 3 four five definitely those goals if adopted by the board will be the Board of Education will increase communication with the community to ensure transparency and continued collaboration the Board of Education will establish a process to measure School wellness and climate and use the data to inform practice to create Positive Growth engage students and a healthy sense of belonging within the district and the other goal is the Board of Education will attract develop and retain excellent quality staff a focus on relevant professional development mindfulness and cultural responsiveness in 21st century teaching strategies um did anyone have a comment on those goals just clity David you're talking about suggested 34 345 those were the top vote Getters um I just have a question Dave I don't have it in front of me the third one that you mentioned yes um it is to attract develop and Main excellent quality staff the focus on relevant professional development and mindfulness and cultural respons 21st century teaching strategies so I have a question what is mindfulness and what is cultural what is the next responsiveness responsiveness mean yeah I mean well first of all these are just suggested so we just get narrow down and then when we narrow them down like we did last time then we'll have a broer discussion of Define what we want to do what the action plans will be out of that but So Cal responsible this is just you know being aware just similar what we did on the board you know being aware of our community how it's changing we've uh accepted U now we brought in Wali we brought in uh e so just being more aware of the students one example is also we doubled our we used to call it ESL the English second language students into our district we doubled that number the past two years or so and uh so just being more aware of our change in population and being mindful of of the students that are in front of us but that's a goal I feel like we're accomplishing that so should it be something that was a goal about professional development of those staff members so we' be looking at maybe hiring some more people that uh coming in to start training our staff a littleit more about what's going on um we also had a c other gos that uh didn't quite get as many votes um but those were to provide support to The District administration to enable a successful completion of construction aspects of facilities across the district and that is a goal that was the same as last year there was also another goal uh to promote a collaborative teaching learning and assessment environment that inspires creativity Innovation and differentiation support all Learners those were two other I would suggest that we focus on those five gos and three out of them and remember these are just suggestions so if you want to go we did last year you can modify them however you wish and we added and subtracted last time as well and do you technically we'd love to have them by July 1st but it's so could we review these in the next coup we and by the next board meeting decide on what goals we want to have for this board since we're missing two people right now it would be nice to have their inut as well what last uh number two and number seven so number two is to support the District administration to enable the successful completion of the construction aspects facilities across District that's the same as one from last year awkward but we could work on that um and the goal number seven was to promote a collaborative teaching learning and assessment environment that inspired creativity Innovation and differentiation to support all Learners so those are the five what I'd like to do is I'd like to send them out to everyone and I'd like to ask that you all please respond with your suggestions and comments and maybe we could at least come next time we'll decide on which ones we want to do you want to them yes that would be nice I'll send you an email I'll I'll give you those five again in an email form and we can discuss that send yes I will send them to you but know okay um we also had District goals from what I understand everyone who responded to me was fine with the prop District goals which were to continue to implement enhance and evaluate ways to address mental health issues as necessary uh to uh continue to explore and evaluate Innovative learning opportunities for all students continue to evaluate the Safety and Security Protocols of the district and then the fourth one was continue to monitor completion and current construction projects evaluate the district facilities and update the long facility plan no one seem to have a problem with those but you have a comment Oh I thought you were ra so uh these are roughly these are the same goals we had last year and this year for the most part um small tweaks but just remember this is like more of a strategic plan we really have liked these goals these goals have done well for us but what we've done each year is we've changed all the action plans underneath them so underneath them they usually have three or four different action plans and each year we've changed that and upgraded that as we've accomplished the other goals we keep on just going deeper and deeper with these so if those are the goals that we decide to go on then again I would create over the summer the actual action plan I will share that with you and give you blessings and we move on that's if those are pretty good right now then I would start working on them in the next month send those out also I will send them out to everyone um wait two weeks let people respond and then we'll start working on the action PL I think that thec now having just app Asos to all theast years on Tre those anding I will I will get that out in an email version in the next day or so and I look forward to your comments D I have a question so probably for Dr hman um Dr Warman do the teachers or the administrators or the teachers who are really with the kids do they can they recommend goals to help us I don't know how can you explain the process of creating the goals for the district yeah so we you could I guess we could put out a survey of some sort uh the way right now as we're working you know we get feedback from all throughout the year of how things are going where our needs are so talking the administrators the principles supervisors we meet with the the Union on a regular basis so we get a lot of these things and then that's how that helps you know Drive the direction we're going in we don't do anything formally by saying may you want XY Z something we could look into if you want to I think I think what that would probably fall was as Tom was saying the district goals I think have been pretty much static for several years and the action plan underneath changes so I I would assume with input from supervisors and administrations in different buildings you modify the action plan and that's where we take the input from the building level and Implement that into the district so I think that that's how we're going to get I think that's how we're going to get the teacher and staff can put into the district HS so they basically speak to their administrators saying this is this is what that's right so right so so yes they just happen organically or time but I don't do anything formal by saying XYZ please give me feedback on that but it's something to [Music] consider no I was not going I am not going to adjourn it until you mentioned Relay for Life actually I was going to mention that I did attend on was a very large group of indes very excited nice um and then yes I have good news for the board we have 100% participation from our board members uh we have exceeded our goal of $1,000 we raised yeah $1,200 and I want to thank uh Tom and Casey and Andrea they can contribute with us so kudos to the board I hope to see you on uh June 8th um it'll be a fun day let's hope a good weather thank you yes I to was at National H society dment and Mike also there we were the two of us had the honor of welcoming our daughters into National Honor Society it was a nice evening was it it was very nice it was very good evening and what's amazing that for me seeing so many of the kids I actually know I've met I've spoken to it was really just a very proud moment to see all these wonderful kids being recognize that Sor no but I also I'll also mention real quick you know one of the Nic about this job in fact that that P well yeah it pays so well um is that we get to see the students come in I don't know about any of you but it is really a pleasure to come in and see these students and
