##VIDEO ID:pRleTHmgEoE## all right uh I'm confirming that there is a quorum present for our meeting today I would entertain a motion to open so is there a second second there are two seconds all in favor I I wonderful now we're going to do a roll call of our voting members start with you down there so J H and John Ferrar Damon jerson Chris how jaro and introduction of others we have our illustrious director of programming down there Cynthia or Cindy as she likes C no one else is present uh entertain a motion to approve the 7:15 2024 meeting minutes some motion second any discussion no seeing none all in favor open meeting Law certificate of receipt the only one I had missing was Janine cuz you were not here when we did this before so if I can just get her to yep and for those uh not present the certificate of receipt means that you will understand the open meeting law and you have received the documentation about it so we just have to sign that we are informed about open meeting law in the hopes that we never accidentally break it thank you very much thank you and we are once again going to hold nominations and elections uh the reason for this is that upon a second review Town Council has decided they didn't like their first approval of our process and so we're going to do it again so that we are more legal so uh I think the first thing we we need to do is the nomination process so we have before us today nomination of the chair the vice chair and the secretary so uh first off are there any questions yes what is it that they didn't like about the last round uh the fact that it was not clear who had voted for whom and so as a citizen you can vote uh without anyone knowing as a member of a board your votes are supposed to be tallied to your name is an understanding the the new understanding I have uh I haven't met the Town Council specifically I got this sort of through various other people so is that your understanding of it has to be open I was going to say so it's more like Public Law open meeting process okay well I don't follow that logic because when we vote for a board to select them you don't know what my vote is yeah so when you're voting so so the you know what I mean yes so how is it different in a in this type of scenario when the board that has been voted in is voting for anything they have to do it in the open so you need to know what your select board that you voted for voted for so yes when the select board takes a vote on something it's public so you know which members have supported which topics topics and policies and so on and so forth and the feeling and I don't have enough of a law degree or any to challenge it uh is that we need to follow the same procedure as the C board so why we were approved to do it for two years without the same procedure I don't know and I didn't feel like it was worth fighting about it so we're just going to operate under the same principle and guys that has been used by the S board in the past CU I that one is groved um so what I would like to have happen is open nominations for any position so I can say I'm going to nominate Jerry Deo for chair she would then say I accept or de we'd get a second she would then accept or decline we would elect the chair then move on to the vice chair and then move on to the [Music] secretary any further questions or discussion before we initiate this process so where it for are we doing this written down or okay so it's just a verbal thing doing just going to be verbal and it will be recorded okay and then it should be reflected in the minutes as well so we just like go in order who where Nom like each individual is nominating someone or no it's each just you can nominate yourself you can nominate someone else you cannot nominate anyone so in one office at a time yes one office at a time so we'll do the chair first and then move on so are there any nominations for chairperson of the Council on Aging I nominate I was going to well you can second it then I'll second it are there I will accept the nomination sorry it's been a while since I did this process are there any other nominations for chair person all right then let us uh move to the vote all those in favor of voting for me as chairperson please uh raise your hand and since we're being very official about this why don't we do it in order the same order that we did our introduction so Susan if you could go first um I agree with the nomination or approve the nomination vote for the nomination I what the language should be J I vote for nomin John I vote for the nomination I approve the vote I vote for the nomination all right so I will carry on for another year uh now I would like to move to nominations for a vice chair I would like to nominate Chris is there a second second are there any other nominations hearing none we'll move to the vote does she accept oh AC thank you I was looking at her face and I'm going is that a yes or a no I'm still I'm still uncomfortable with the whole thing but like Damon I'm not sure about legal stuff but I am going to investigate this because it's just very awkward it very awkward and I don't think that I've seen any other board do this type of thing but I'm going with it okay just for the record I appreciate your uh acceptance of the awkward situation and we once again repeat the roll call vote Susan um I agree favor I'm in favor of Chris being the vice chair I'm taking notes I keep getting lost yay yes D jerson yes just Joe anti oh yes can I vote for myself you can Jerry I say uh Jer I say yes all right that is another unanimous vote we have very supportive board today and now we need to elect with the vote uh secretary are there any nominations for secretary a nomination my nominate Su Nom um do you accept your nomination yes thank you all right uh are there any other nominations seeing none we will once again do the roll call vote Susan I accept myself yes y any votes in favor I accept Susan I I vote for Susan I vote for Susan and you did you yes I said I vote in favor so once again all unanimous votes and we now have our [Music] positions so thank you for uh putting up with that it just seemed like given the the position of Town Council had made sense to redo it so that none of our other actions are called into question moving forward um the next item on the agenda is approving the chair and the vice chair to sign Department documents the bi-weekly documents so I'd entertain a motion so move second all those in favor okay so I will send this around for you guys all to sign just says that Damon and Chris can sign the time on [Music] the um and now why don't we to start at the other end of the table because Jerry's almost done signing and uh it's the what have you been able to attend and have you been able to bring anyone down to the council or so on and so forth so I'm sure I've seen you at things Jerry so well um I've been out of country so it was pretty hard yes so I haven't recently attended things but the last thing I think I attended was um uh either traic traic Che or or a game night or a game night one of those or I know I saw you at a game night so okay that's it I'll accept that what about you Chris uh other than pickle ball uh not much I am enrolled for the painting that's coming up so that is a 2B but not as was and she does teach two classes a week yes so that's that is this attending or what you do for the council attending or things you participated in things you things I do for the council I'm I'm My Own recruiter I'm constantly recruiting at callwell Farm I put up I send out emails to everybody I'll tell them what's available I also have I posted the the um the flyer in the clubhouse and and and also the events that going on here some of our members are really starting to attend these things now because of the publicity because I have a Big Mo yes apprciate Joe's also there every Tuesday she helps you volunteer every Tuesday counc oh oh I forgot about that I volunteer every Tuesday well that's like I have fun with all the people I mean I I kind consider that to be a job it's not a job but you're still Vol you're volunteering you're particip participating that's thank you I was late for this meeting so don't count that it's okay um so I've been able to drop into a number of events here and there in my uh coming to with cindies coming to sign things um and that's about the limit of my ability to be engaged CU I still have a lot of other things that that draw on my time go ahead John I know I've seen you down there too yeah I've passed through on a regular basis to say hello to the staff and whomever is there went to a veterans uh meeting with Steve and also with um met the Oasis in its early stage to get a sense of what that's all about um strong add to the to the service really is a true service to others so the uh veterans meeting that John was talking about once month Steve comes C Bon veteran service officer comes in we've mixed it up now he used to meet with people here and here room um we heard from him that he does a little social before his meetings uh in other coas so we I did talk with Tracy to make sure it was okay for me to bring him back down into the COA veteran service officer is available to any veteran in town not just seniors so we didn't want it to be implied that it was meant just for seniors to be in the Council on Aging but um so we do a half hour before his office hours officially start uh coffee Donuts that kind of a thing I John you happened to be there when that was going on so there was a few people that I heard some stories being told some stories some chatting just some you know interaction that's nice um and then Steve available not met either one of those veterans until that date and it was nice to know who they are their story yeah yeah may I make one recommendation please um who's who's the procuro of those donuts that's Kathy ask her to tone it down a bit yeah it's funny say that I thought the same thing I was like those are like really frosting and I would have gone with like plain plain Honey Honey Dip things like yeah I'll talk to her okay I have been unavailable to do much of anything yes you had a a rough go so I'm glad you're back I am you do also though volunteer um I do but I haven't been doing that because I'm not doing stairs yet there a lot of stairs involved yeah but she does have a home visit that she does yeah although we've been chatting on the phone right so she's keeping one of our homebound seniors um engaged so we appreciate it fantastic thank you um I have not attended any events um I continue to promote the COA at PA meetings I on the board of directors there and we just voted to order the AED yay cool so that will be installed at the hall probably in the kitchen somewhere awesome we usually bring an AED over there when we have events um but Susan had brought it up it Tak some time it's a good idea actually um and um I keep wanting to go to the christas yoga on Mondays at 3:00 I haven't made it yet so are you continuing that yes I am okay cool um um and uh yeah take the notes and do what I can I've been extremely involved in pum Fest this summer so that is now behind us success say look like it was a success oh my gosh it was crazy but it was fun 98 a.m sound like watch this talk thank you anyway so doing what I can as I can running my little dayare business very good uh as far as the chairperson's report some of it I covered already just stopping and checking in with the COA they I've been uh helping clean out the fridge at the end of the week so that uh we don't have food going bad down there and bring it to the either children at the house or the pigs at the farm so trying to help out there we've had some legal things that we've had to discuss and uh we have had a little Hiatus from the ad hoc committee but we're going to be starting that again I've been able to meet with Eric Swan and Bob Connors who were both instrumental in moving the police station forward they had some advice and uh was hoping to get together with them again before this week but they were we were not able to schedule a second meeting but they're very supportive of the work that has been done and they think it will help uh prepare the select people for making decisions about how to move forward with a compson aging future home so that about perhaps my report that means it's my turn yes that's why I noted at you it was very subtle okay so 9:20 a.m. we are at the point in the we're at the point in the cycle where we are getting ready to put a new newsletter out so we have a few um events remaining for this month we have a traveling Chef today we have resuming the watercolor class with Peggy poppy those are four week sessions that if people are interested in the class they should call and speak to Kathy there's limited spots available in that class you can only take so many students so give us a call if you're interested Gordon College Center for balance will be back this Wednesday for a free balance screenings um and then upcoming in October we have our tech class with Kevin again we went we started that again in September he went back to basics so we're kind of redoing the basic um processes with um with iPhones and iPads so in the next newsletter there'll be a little bit more detail about what his classes are going to entail in October and November uh traveling Chef for October is the 7th for November it's the 4th before and after the November traveling Chef our knitting group is going to have a little craft fair so if people are interested they can stop by before or after yep November 4th so they will have items at the all handmade items that they so we can buy them and say we've made them could um Oasis what John was talking about is meeting on October 9th and November 13th that's a once a month group that meets um we are doing a no Community Fair SL health fair in October that's going to be on October 15th from 2: to 4:00 p.m. so we have a lot of different vendors coming Kathy is working on getting um a couple of shredding bins so people can bring shredders and then we have local like police and fire will be there um Martha who does the Oasis group will be there to talk a little bit about that the administrator from the neat program will be there someone from mea will be there I believe we're having a representative from the Alzheimer's Association there's lots of different um vendors that are coming to that event what event is that again to date so it is called know your community Fair on Tuesday October 15th from 2: to 4: we are doing flu shots that day from 3:30 to 5:30 that is a sign up because we have I believe it's 30 high dose flu shots and then 20 regular dose flu shots so people once they get their newsleter want to call um we increased the high dose I think we only had 20 High dose last year so we increased it to 30 this year if I max out on that next year I will so the health department has to order those in like March um so I will make sure to if if I get enough interest in this I will increase it again for next year uh we're doing a Ceramics class that is starting um in October I know the October date is October 17th I believe we're making a Little Acorn luminary so you learn to it's like a ceramic piece that's all done you paint it you instructor gives you you know tips on how to do it we did a hydrangea plate as just a test run um to see if we had people that were even interested in something like this and it went really well um so you paint it they take it back to their Studio to fire it and then they bring it back about a week later so this one's a Little Acorn luminary I think in November we're doing a pumpkin plate I think and then I think we're doing the beginning of December I think we're doing Christmas ornaments this there different things that are coming up so it's something it's once a month something to look forward to uh we will do game night in October on the 22nd there will be no game night in November we decided we're way too busy um so something had to give so we took game night off the schedule for November we had Glee Woodworth I don't know if anyone's familiar with her she's a local historian um she came and gave us a lecture uh I think it was in August so we're having her back in October on October 24th she's going to talk about urban renewal downtown area of Newport um she was very good people enjoyed her our medy petty is um Wednesday October 30th and then there is no November Clinic that date would have fallen the day before Thanksgiving um so we moved it to the first Wednesday in December which means there won't be a December clinic so there'll be no November Clinic one the beginning of December and then we'll go into January October 30 first we are having Delina theater come to put on a production about Lizzie boarden that'll be fun um the friends our friends group is putting on a craft fair of their own where they have uh reached out to different local vendors to sell their [Music] items y immedately hey um can I get a motion to adjourn the meeting motion to adj all those in favor
