good evening everyone it's great to see a full house I hope everyone is is doing well and your Summers have kicked off to a good start um we have a couple of presentations this evening so I will turn who may not know what buddy ball is um I'd like to invite our board member Steven W to talk about it it's a very special program to his heart all right all right everybody the north BR buddy ball program is a program that provides athletic opportunities to our students and young adults who are neurologically diverse or have physical disabilities over the past Academic Year we had three Sports Seasons fall winter and spring and each of our Seasons we've had over 40 participant registrations with an average weekly participation of 30 participants because our program aims to provide as close to a one:1 buddy to participant ratio as possible we are heavily dependent on our volunteers for each season this past Academic Year we've had over 40 middle and high school volunteers so this year we've had over, 1300 hours of volunteer service through buddy ball Alone um if we also include the hours uh through the 4 club and nbths Key Club that our volunteers have a mass over 1,400 hours today we want to take the opportunity to thank and honor our senior volunteers who collectively served over 100 hours this year in over 220 lifetime hours with Buddy ball and this lifetime is tracked since I took over in 2022 so I know some of our seniors have volunteered longer than that so there's probably a lot more hours involved there this is on top of many activities and commitments that they have uh they have had during their busy senior senior year and in fact what makes it so amazing to me is that all these seniors really don't need uh any more community service hours yet when time permitted they still chose to come out to Buddy ball and interact with our players and Mentor our younger volunteers many of these seniors were asked to be student leaders to help guide and Lead groups of players and volunteers they were also asked to model the behaviors and attitudes that make our program successful so for my seniors there as you move on to new experiences new places and new people I hope that you have learned the following lessons at buddy ball through your inter actions with our players our volunteers our parents and coaches that everyone is deserving of love care and respect family can extend beyond the walls of your home to the Open Fields of community park and as we continue to chant at the end of our sessions who are we buddy ball and what are we family know that this will always include all of you regardless of where you are so thank you from all of us at buddy ball um I think uh Mr Cher is going read or actually something and I have we have everyone come up uh that's here uh for Buddy ball I'll readiz names adtia Patel Alex sport Andrew Lori Jack fiso Logan Prof propio oh my goodness I messed it up uh Mia Morgan Natalie Miranda and panel B Jones [Music] they truly Care and Share generosity of themselves and whereas buddy ball is a soccer and basketball sports program which pairs up players with special needs with volunteers the volunteers provide the players opportunity to learn and play soccer and basketball in a positive and meaningful way and now therefore be it resolved that this public aaim be given to Alex bort Jack rasillo penala Jones to our staff families students and board of education for all of their work and support that helped us achieve another successful school year our leadership team met yesterday and began the process of preparing for the 24 25 school year as part of our annual Reflections our administrative teams look closely at HIV or what you might have heard of as harassment intimidation and bullying data as well as other instances of student conflict that may not technically be classified hi due to the definitions given by the state of New Jersey I know there are a lot of people who like to share their thoughts on different social media platforms often Anon anonymously however as a district this does not help us resolve issues that may be occurring I always encourage parents to work with and be patient with our administrative teams as they look into and investigate student issues ask questions these cases are complex involve multiple students and often take time for proper investigation to be completed I can confidently say that our Administration administrative teams work diligently to investigate and work with all issues of conflict and potential bullying cases that are brought to our attention discipline can range from out of school suspensions to a mediation session between two students it may be Counseling in school suspension or some other type of restorative support we have to remember that we are looking to teach our students how to get along with one another and how to address similar situations if they come up again we also want to ensure that those found to be the victims of an of an HIV incident are supported by our school emot social emotional and behavioral work um EXC excuse me supported by our school counselors and by other mentors we hold many programs and we social emotional and behavioral work throughout all our schools all year long this last year our instructional Deans who are our school anti-bullying Specialists and our district anti-bullying specialist Amy ke attended a great deal of training and workshops um and they work collaboratively on different situations to ensure that we are following the law and making sure that we are being consistent this year alone we have seen a decline in HIV cases at the elementary level and at upper High School levels in future administrative reports and newsletters I will be providing more information on this process and how to navigate it as a parent and finally this evening I would like to acknowledge and introduce to you all Miss Lisa Rudolph who was on the agenda to be approved as everyone my name is Beth pner I am the President of the north Bruns Township Education Association as many of you know I come to every Board of Education meeting that I can I'm typically the only one in the audience as you can see that's no longer the case typically in June I stand up before the board and reflect on what a great school year it's been and wish you all good summer I'm not going to do that this year because unfortunately the end of the school year has been tainted by the fact that an impass has been declared in our negotiations with the North Brunswick Township Board of Education for those of you in the public who do not know what that means it means that the NBTA bargaining team and board of EDS team will no longer be meeting without a state me appointed mediator and that this will now we're now going to have to wait many months probably before we can even meet again although we just received news of getting the mediator here's a history lesson for everyone I love history I'm a history teacher the last time the NBTA and the Board of Ed had to go to impass was in 2010 most of the current members of this Board of Ed were not on the board at the time and some of you were even our students for those of you who were around you will remember that it was an extremely difficult time filled with job actions from the association for myself I was a newly elected NBTA Executive Board member and at the board of ed meeting I gave a speech about how much I owe North Brunswick unexpected right that I owe North Brunswick you see North Brunswick hired me at 23 years old took a chance on me right out of college and gave me the educator that I am today and for that I'm grateful it has become my second home it is also where I met my husband right in the MRC at the MBS and now I have a beautiful family so yes I owne North Brunswick a lot but as I said in 2010 and I'll say it again now North Brunswick owes me too I've been teaching in North Brunswick for 19 years countless students countless lessons not just about history but life skills so our kids can Thrive out there in the real world and while I love each every and every one of my students that I've taught but I also have a family and I have bills to pay and public thank yous and praise from the Board of Ed while appreciated do not cut it what we need is a fair and competitive salary I don't want that to take with the collaborative relationship that has been built between the NBTA and the Board of Ed over the past four years this should have been easy and that's what saddens me so much now we're at impass and to say we're disappointed is an understatement as the Educators and support staff that care for the children of North Brunswick will be working without a contract starting on July 1st and working without an active contract impacts a lot for our staff it affects their morale and working conditions for the district it raises questions of whether or not the district can hire and retain staff for families it raises questions and concerns over how this will affect their children's education and we want the parents and guardians of North Brunswick to know right now that no matter what happens in the upcoming year with regards to negotiations our staff will always be dedicated to the education of the children of North Brunswick however however with some of the lowest top salaries in middlex County the NBTA will do what is necessary to further a fair settlement that our Educators and support staff deserve few more sentences we encourage the Board of Education to reconsider what was discussed at the table and to reach out to us so that we can come back to the table to avoid a many month long mediation thank you [Music] [Applause] Jo I'm gonna translate the message of the association for nor br brwi for [Music] for for sir can you hear me sir sir can you hear me I'm sorry how much longer I'm sorry one more okay fine [Music] gracias just just before the next speaker if I can we're going to make sure that we're limit to three minutes just to be fair to everyone so obviously we don't want to interrupt you but as you hear the the timer just you can wrap up your comments okay thank you very much well for those of you that know me I'm a fast talker so hopefully we won't have to worry about that for those of you that don't know me my name is Fran Alvarez and my husband Manny and I moved into North Brunswick in 2007 we consider ourselves Community Partners In addition to being business owners and taxpayers we have loved raising our four children and scrubbing Our Roots here since we moved in the community and school system has meant so much to us that we have become active participants serving as class parents chaperons PTO executive board members team parents and coaches any opportunity that we have been given we have taken because we love this community and we love to give back when our oldest daughter alenny entered kindergarten at Jud school we were blessed with amazing teachers who cared and worked tirelessly for their students because of them I decided to change my career and go back to school for my master's degree in education and I became one of them I started working in this District in 2014 and I have loved going to work every single day since then when I look at this board I can say that most of us have a personal connection our children have grown up together we've played Sports together done plays gone to Stokes attended dances together not to mention that I have had some of you in my home and I have been a teacher to your children as well despite all these personal connections I have never felt more disheartened to have a board whom is turning their back on us during NE negotiations yet when some of you on this board needed support during your election my family was there for you your sign my it seems that the districts around us are valuing their teachers much more than ours and because of that we are losing Personnel yet my colleagues and I have a job to do and we show up every single day during natural disasters when our houses were flooding and we had no place to go home we were there we showed up when we've had tragedies in our lives and lost loved ones we are there we show up during a worldwide pandemic we needed to continue to teach our students despite the state of the world we were there we showed up yet right now we feel that our board is not showing up for us we ask you to please consider reconsider negotiating for us think about us fight for us please value value US come back to the table for us thank you good evening Oro okay good evening North Brunswick my name is Kaye schules I'm a rising Junior a Varsity softball player as as recognized earlier and a trumpet player in the marching band of mbts I'm the daughter of a Jersey City teacher as well I am here to support the educators of North Brunswick in their fight for a fair and competitive contract due to North Brunswick's unfair and non-competitive contract numerous Educators have resigned from North Brunswick and most if not all have chosen to educate at other districts with much better contracts to name a few teachers who pushed me to be the student I am today that I sadly heard have left the district Danielle patrio my middle school softball coach of three years Stacy berer my seventh grade social studies teacher and njhs adviser Rachel Clark one of the marching band faculty members and Sarah Cho my sophomore year English teacher a first year teacher who is already moving districts so many other districts beat North funic salary by at least $10,000 like sville Monroe Woodbridge and Edison no wonder there's so many resignations North brunic needs to give teachers a fair and competitive contract so they want to work here a North PL teacher has a salary 83,5 while the towns I mentioned pay their teachers at least 94,000 our Educators need a fair salary if we actually want them to teach here until retirement on top of our teachers unreasonable salaries the AIDS of North Brunswick also have unfair salaries I have worked in Special Needs classrooms throughout my middle school years and the patience adaptability and compassion that special needs AIDS have is beyond belief it doesn't make sense to me how the average Costco employee makes more than our North runic AIDS do I am proud of most educ and I support them in their request to secure a fair and competitive contract the Board of Education to support them too by doing whatever is necessary to make that happen thank you [Applause] that's a tough act to follow sorry good evening my name is Debbie schules some of you may know me as Austin and kayle's Mom both children have attended North Brunswick schools from the beginning of John Adams Austin just graduated from North Brunswick Township High School Kaye will graduate in two years I've lived in North Brunswick for 20 years I'm here to speak on behalf of the teachers and the teacher aids I myself am a Jersey City teacher I've commuted an hour each way to and from work in traffic and weather conditions for 25 years people ask me why don't you just work in North runswick ideally that would be wonderful and convenient but even back then it was not worth my while now today it hasn't changed much compared to many other districts um the north Fric teachers are not getting a fair and competitive contract this is why you're losing so many great teachers each year teachers are the backbone of this community they're the reason our children become teachers police officers firefighters doctors nurses engineers accountants business owners Etc my children have had so many phenomenal teachers and they've had so many of them lead the district for better opportunities I don't blame them for leaving they put in all this hard work and long hours in need to support their families too just the other day I was reviewing all the resignations on the pass board docs and I can't believe the turnover it's has been going on for years let's not forget about the AIDS they also go above and beyond their duties to care for the special needs population they too need an incentive to stay in our district in closing let's give the teachers and AIDS what they deserve a fair and competitive contract it's not fair to the students to watch teachers come and go when educators are paid well and supported they stay we need our Educators to stay thank you want to my name please Dean address address sorry address address uh yes could you please fill out the um I think you have to put your address on there as well on the sign in thank youc exellent thank you good evening everybody uh sir if you could just sir if you could just speak at the microphone that'd be helpful that's you don't have to speak in the micophone but you have to stand there General instead of facing there we need you to speak into theic speak to the microphone people that are watching online yeah you can they won't be able to hear it on and you can you can speak and say whatever you want in the 3 minutes and I'll pause your time while I'm saying this but it's you got to face the chair and you have to address from the podium okay thank you and and please use the microphone so the people on TV can can hear it otherwise it won't won't go through thank you sorry thank you all right baby uh did you see the email that I sent you regarding the properties we're looking at we want to buy a house at North Brunswick no honey I didn't get a chance well look at it because there's a house in North Brunswick but I have a concern about the educational system we need to address that we need to look at what we want that property it's a beautiful house well baby what I saw was it's close to Home Depot uh there's a 7-Eleven two blocks away Ione I need you to look at the educational system what's going on okay when you look at the educational system and you get the understanding of what's going on the word on the street is that the teachers are not getting paid an adequate salary to represent present not only the students not only the parents and the communities but also the businesses in particular real estate agents one of the first questions asked not how big the driveway not how many basements or bedrooms it is what's going on with the educational system can our children learn if once we P purchase this property all right so I bought my house 18 years ago with my lovely wife my daughter has attended North Country School System since kindergarten okay got to check with the boss I know for a fact that my daughter who is absolutely amazing she has learned every step of the way from Mr a Mr aiman to every teacher at Parson Elementary School and that's a that's a guaranteed fact all right there's a few here if I may look all right okay moving fast forward now she's a junior in high school and on to on to doing some great things but the most amazing thing is when we go to parent teacher conference me and my wife go every time there's a meeting and we love her teacher so much because they're so great we asked if ask her to not go to school so that we can sit in class for her and I'm not exaggerating so if the question is money give them show them and and and share with them the money because it is important now the second Hat real quick I have a six-month-old grandson he will be attending northr school system and I want him to have great teachers that my youngest daughter has had thank [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you hello my name is Crystal ckins and my my son just finished first grade at Jud Elementary School this is our first year with the school system um first I'd like to thank the board for taking the time to read the letter that I mailed to you I appreciate you listening to the thoughts of the community members and making this space for us to feel H I understand that the board and the NBTA aren't able to engage in discussion with the public about negotiations but I acknowledge that there is hard work being done behind closed doors to create the budget as well as move toward a settlement um with that said I just wanted to reemphasize some things that I wrote in my letter we had a wonderful experience with my son's classroom teacher this year um he even says that he wants to be a first grade teacher because of her um we also had a really great experience with all of the teachers and staff that we encountered this past year I just want to publicly thank and appreciate all of them as well as the other teachers and staff in the district who have worked tireless ly um even Beyond school hours to make sure that kids are taught well our children I believe that teachers and staff are at the heart of what make a school system amazing we should be offering competitive salaries comparable to neighboring districts and make sure that they are fairly compensated we don't want to lose these amazing teachers to other districts if they don't feel like they're being compensated well and they feel the need to be looking for other jobs throughout the year because of that our teachers should be paid well so that their time and energy can be focused on what they do best which is teach our children to the best of their ability we want North Brunswick to be known as an amazing School District um not just because of technology or um test scores but because it cares so well for teachers that all of New Jersey knows that North Bruns of teachers are very happy employees of this town and they desire to remain here for the duration of their teaching years Years thank you we have stars here hello I'm Eric Parson Geller um and these are my children Jacob Parson Geller and Valentina Parson Geller would have something that you want to say to everyone today about your teachers my name is Jacob hey Jacob ja Jacob Jacob you're very cute could you do me a huge favor can you stand over here and say it right in that microphone it'll sound louder so everybody can hear okay we want to say there you go right there perfect my name is Jacob interon and we have fun of the middle school and the high school was so fun on College okay hi I'm Valentina par G I love my teachers so much and um you want to introduce dad to talk and I want to introduce dad to talk I just I just want to make uh a few comments I have both of my children attend Livingston Park uh Jacob is in special education and I do have some concerns um with the fact that we have lost three major Educators um that are part of this program and one of the things that I have experienced with this in just the short time with these departures is just a degradation in some of the instruction right because there's a gap and I just want to just kind of support the teachers let's give them a round of applause they're all I will tell you I'm also in process of relocating we are not going to be back in the district next year because my job is taking me to back to Indianapolis and the first thing that I've done when looking for a new home and a new neighborhood is what look at the school system I look at the the ratings right I think that it's very important that we provide a competitive wage for these teachers as well as student student AIDS the teachers that help the assistants that help the teachers it's extremely important when you look at the demographics and the statistics of the surrounding communities there's only a $10,000 Gap it's not that big but $110,000 $122,000 a year to a family makes a huge difference let's try to make that close that gap for these tremendous people that do gifts look at them they came out today I know we can't talk about anything else but that's my personal story and I really would like to see if I come back to Jersey and I come back to North Brunswick that we have great teachers that stay for a long time okay [Applause] my name is McKenzie this is my first meeting hello thank you to all the teachers I'm new to North Brunswick I've been here for two years I have three kids one just graduated high school my daughter is in Jud and my son is in lywood my son special needs we came from a different District my son wasn't treated nicely so I had a very big attitude when I came I didn't want to talk to any teachers I just wanted my son to be treated right the last District we were in they only seen his behaviors when I came and sat down with Lynnwood the teacher actually sat down and talked to me they said how wonderful my son was they said don't worry about it we're going to work with him his case manager endlessly talked every day with me cuz I had very big concerns today my son loves going to school you don't cry he wants to see his teacher in fact he's going to ELA and he wants to see his teacher but she's not here this year she's coming back next year but he was very upset because he loves his teacher he loves his school the teachers deserve every scent that they want cuz they deserve it do you know how hard it is to they care of kids I was at by 20 I was Z by 30 I'm a nurse I'm not I can't take care of a lot of kids they do it with a smile every day day in and day out and my children came home Happy from New Jersey to now my children were never happy in school this District did it and I would like to stay here my son in special needs so I have to go where he is accepted he accepted here I don't want to lose their teachers I don't want to lose his keys worker please give them what they deserve thank you good evening everyone so this is also my we ask that you use the microphone please just pick it up thank you you should microphone it's get everybody your but good evening uh this is my first time attending um and I'm pleased to see that there are some of you that I went to school with my name is had mystery I have joined this very School uh back in um when I was I just came from India um I just I see many familiar uh uh faces and Mr Carter that I went to school with um I I'm pleased to see that and a lot of the the features that um were my my daughter's teacher the reason why my voice is uh little shaky my daughter Richi Bal passed away last year July 2023 okay um it's so sad to see that if the teacher are treated this way in the education system and the student to teacher ratio and the councel to teacher um the student ratio I'm I'm I'm just baffled I want to understand what that looks like I want to understand what the overall um process is I want to understand what the education curriculum and how we're pivoting that based on the the overall society that we're in right now how are we providing the the support that our students need I don't think sign and cosign is going to be helpful in the real life I really don't so um I would like to understand that some visibility around types of HIV cases that you are seeing and what are the outcomes of those would be really helpful I understand there's a confidentiality with that but high level would be grateful right would be really nice these podiums that you're seeing or the the the TVs that you're seeing would be nice to actually get the policies and and see those it's really great that you're putting it with fancy Arts but this is a grieving mother talking to an education system now she was my only daughter I'm still here because I want to see change in the curriculum I want to see change in the student to teacher ratio I want to see the change in the student to counselor ratio so that our teachers and the counselors are able to provide the care and the support that our students need in the time of the changing world if the the teacher themselves are not feeling supported I can only imagine how the kids are feeling in school especially with the changing teacher in and day out thank you before you sir while you're signing up if I can just respond to just a one thing uh it's very important obviously um as the woman who just spoke there's all of the board's policies and regulations are available readily on the board's website it's important for us to to to make sure that that's clear um yeah of course and also there is there is a lot of um I don't know the exact information it's more of an administrative um answer here but there is a lot of highlevel HIV information available I don't know exactly what we have um we deal with it as you know in a more um specific basis and a confidential basis because we're required to protect our okay our students but but we We There is information that's available and to the extent that's available we can make sure that uh if you email um our superintendent I'm sure she can provide that for you yeah okay um she died of suicide by the way so this is very near here to me no you're sorry doesn't cut it from no no no I said I'm sure I can imagine only imagine no you cannot imagine unless you near my shoes you cannot no I I recognize that so thank you sir I'm sorry go ahead sorry for your loss as a parent thank you good evening my name is Cooper Ford I'm speaking tonight as a resident of North Brunswick having been a part of the community for over 20 years I am also the orchestra director in our high school a position I held since 2015 where my wife is a spe also uh she is also a teacher uh in elementary special education in East Brunswick as Educators my wife and I both understand the importance of quality education which is why we chose this district and this community to raise our children our three children are all started in kindergarten at Jud one is now in college and two are still in the high school all three have benefited from the offerings of our school district many of them coming through our staff as a teacher and a parent I have unique perspective that allows me to witness our educational system firsthand I have seen our teachers and staff do amazing work in the lives of our children including my own one of them even wants to be a high school biology teacher and no it wasn't because of me I've seen teachers come here and grow into fantastic veterans providing topnotch educational experiences for our children we are truly lucky to have them in this same vein it breaks my heart when they leave because I know firsthand the loss to our community teachers like Miss valty who taught science left partway through the year she was the first of three teachers in the same class that year one of my kids was in that class there's Miss Tapia a high school bilingual English teacher who joined us in 2016 and also left during the year you can imagine the impact on both of their classes I think of Miss W wter and Miss K experienced teachers who taught my youngest who's on the autism spectrum their departure is our loss and there's Miss Nunes one of the pillars of our high school World Language department and the Latin American Club and Mr scalla the Elementary music teacher and one of our own in North Brunswick these are just a few but the list goes on the impact on our children is real the loss of wisdom and experience when someone leaves whether it's an educator or support professional is a loss to us all everyone has their different reasons but for many salary is a part of the equation simply put they can make more by going to a different District or leaving education alog together and who can blame them for trying to provide for themselves and their families the best they can right now our district is seen as a stopping point for educators they come here they get experience maybe are a masters that we as a community help pay for and then they move on to another district with a more competitive salary where they build their career this is not fiction this is what is happening right now I can't help think how things might be different if more people stayed better yet what if people left their districts to come here not for a few years but for the long run what it might do for the future of our educational system our children and our community so as a community we need to take care of the people who take care of our children they are depending on us s did you say an address just yeah if you can't name an address for the record and that's just a request for okay I it's a number name okay that's fine go ahead go ahead that's okay we want to hear what you have to say go ahead thank you um okay my name is Jennifer guio uh I've been a teacher here in North Brunswick for 13 years I wasn't expecting to speak at all so this is off the cuff uh I'm a resident of North Brunswick I am also an alumna of North Brunswick 06 mths um after I got married we moved to Franklin Township I felt that charter school was the best option for my children in Franklin um there are pros and cons however they didn't have great experiences my my daughter felt very isolated emotionally my son who was an advanced reader was um Step tracing the letter A with no differentiation um I was told to bring in a workbook for him so when we moved to North frck we got the excellent opportunity to bring both children into the public school district where things changed dramatically for them my daughter was way less press um and I I attribute that to her teacher Mr a um my son is now in the gifted and talented the sore with Mrs Hart excellent program and his classroom teacher has differentiated wonderfully so I couldn't be happier but I will say though when we go to the re Sports my my husband's all about the re Sports when we go to the re Sports um it's almost a weekly conversation that I need to have with other parents who asking about the charter school and they want to go to the charter school and I know this is a big issue um I know it takes money from our district and I have convinced numerous parents to bring their children to North bronswick instead but it is an ongoing issue and the answer to that issue is all of them so I appreciate your time that's my two cents I just no one really brought that up so I wanted to say something but they are your answer to that problem so I thank you hello my name is Kim Weston Heiser I'm a North Bruner graduate and parent I wanted to speak on the issue of the staff's contract it's SP soon as a kid I enjoyed attending school in North Brun just as my mom did before me when looking for a place to live we chose a home nor runwood because of the diversity represented in schools as well as the incredible staff members little did I know just how incredible the staff members that Jud truly are my son is dyslexic and has ADHD he was a preschooler in kindergarten during Co and the staff members this one especially worked relentlessly to find ways to teach him it was not easy thankfully his teachers have advocated from him for him for the start knowing he was having a hard time they never hesit to reach out and suggest different options ultimately they worked with us to get him an i and the help he needed to thrive while this was very overwhelming for a parent they made us feel supported and heard every step of the way I will forever be grateful for them because they truly had this best interest at heart in addition to being a parent I have had the pleasure of working with the staff members as a PTO board member for the last four years I have spent many hours in the school and have met with the most met the most kind and gracious staff members they go out of their way to ask about upcoming events support fundraisers and make us feel valued my husband grew up in South and we had a choice we were thinking we were moving here if we were going to live in North Brunswick or South Brunswick South Brunswick has better rated tools we all know that my husband works in South brunic forette the difference is the special needs kids my son would be lost in those schools I have a friend who lives in South BR her daughter has ADHD and dyslexia and she's having the exact opposite education she's getting lost and she's not getting the help she needs and her her mom has to fight for her I was so grateful that I didn't have to do that because of these staff members please just pay them what they want I'll turn it over to Mr Bush at this time yeah okay than listen I I'm the board attorney I'm Jonathan Bush I want to thank everyone for their comments on behalf of the board um a couple points in particular I want to make I I want to start off um by saying to you that on behalf of the board that I think we agree on so much of what was said tonight the you know obviously the hardworking part the Fant some of it was coming from parents not even just the membership right the Fantastic uh work that this that these teachers do I just know from talking to the board all the time about you know their their their support for you all it's important I I I grew up in this District too 1995 North run Township High School graduate went to this school Lynwood Livingston Park I admire everything you do in this District as well um but I I want to be clear on a number of things that are being said tonight because it's important that we at least put our position forward um no one is turning our backs on our teachers okay no one's doing that we we we genuinely appreciate the value um you know this is a this is a this is a negotiation that's what collective bargaining is um miss pasner the the steam your esteemed president you know said it herself this is the first time that the union has had to come at least in recent memory to the microphone and speak in a during a June meeting about anything other really not the first time but the first time at this meeting in the June meeting at least about the fact that um you know there's some concern other than the fact that it's summertime and she want to wish everyone a good summer um it's it's it's it's obviously because for a long time things were easier at least with respect to negotiations they've gotten a little bit difficult not just for the association for the board um you know obviously everyone's trying to get to that word that's being used competitive Fair um everybody wants to see all of you or at least all of the the members of the association paid fairly um but it's the give and take that makes this hard and right now we're in a period of give and take uh some of the discussions about teachers leaving look it's Personnel so we're not going to be able to speak specifically about any one person but teachers leave districts and come to districts for any number of reasons some of the people nobody specific that were being referenced today aren't even leaving necessarily for teaching positions there's people leaving for to pursue careers in other areas it's possible some people have left for it's possible for excuse me we we all we let you speak so I just want to be able to have our our opportunity it's possible that some people are leaving for personal reasons it's some possible some people leave for financial reasons this is a large organization and sometimes people leave but what's most important for us to say here is there there is tremendous Beyond respect for the work you do because this wouldn't be a system of Education if it weren't for the teachers here we know that we acknowledge that that's not what this is about this isn't about respect this is about negotiation which is acknowledged in the law as the process that we have to go through whenever a contract ends and yes we're getting close to the expiration of that contract yes we're at impass yes we have a mediator yes we want this done yes we don't want this as much as you don't want this but we got to get there and we've got to get there fairly and we got to get there in a way where we respect one another and we continue this conversation in this dialogue and I know this committee is dedicated to doing that I could speak for the board and I'm looking at nodding heads right now that this board is focused on what the next steps are to get through this and hopefully it's easier from this point going forward so I just want to say that we appreciate you on behalf of the district thank you uh seeing no more we will move to close the public portion of the meeting can I have a motion please so moved second all in favor anyone oppos this session is closed thank you at this time I'll motion to go into Clos session should we to close you can just go have to read it it's okay just keep reading go whereas Section 8 of the open public meetings act chapter 231 PL 1975
