##VIDEO ID:4kkve5vRfBk## [Music] the northern burlin County Regional School District is hereby called to order this meeting is called in conformance with the open public meetings act the adequate notice provided as follows notice sent to the Berlin County Times in the times of Trenton on September 17 2024 notice filed with the township Clerks of Chesterfield Mansfield North Hanover and Springfield townships on September 17 2024 and notice of the annual meeting meetings advertised in the brillin county times and the times of Trenton on January 7th 2024 I will now call Ro Mr figs present Mrs Bond present Mr Arman present Mr bucks Mrs gamble present Mr narwood here Mrs Janice present Mr Spence Mr Zimmer here Mr Haynes and Miss Pierre all right thank you very much board at this time I'd ask I want to please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a Moment of Silence has any Board of Education member received Schoolboard related emails Andor correspondences that have not yet been shared with the superintendent uh yes I received one and I spoke about it to with him just now okay thank you um then at this time um M Dr zman if you're ready for your superintendence report absolutely I will uh defer the majority of my report for next week um however I just wanted to remind the board that you're going to probably hear several times tonight um that just as a rem reminder that next week's regular meeting is on Tuesday the 15th not not Monday the the 14th um we also have our High School open house that will take place on October 17th and homecoming Carnival and game that will take place on Saturday the uh 19th and I will defer everything else for uh next week and I uh did want to comment I spoke with Mr figs beforehand it's nice to see that your report is out on the uh website thank you thank you Dr Zuckerman uh Mr Cass if you'd like to give any items from your business administrator's report sure uh my report explains why we do uh we approv the comprehensive maintenance plan uh every year um it also Prov provide some update on the auditorium as we'll have Ted Hopkins and uh Jason Duit from freighttech V's Hopkins and dothy uh present tonight um it talks about uh the audit and where we are with that um and a letter that they have to share with the board is a mandated requirement I explain uh what's going on with facilities used by outside organizations in my report uh I conf confirmed with all the uh recck leagues who use our facilities for no cost that we value them um and that we're willing to work with them and so uh we continue to do so obviously then Will's got his updates for the buildings and grounds and picture summaries uh the report also includes uh the annual state of the fund dinner for the joint Insurance Fund uh so let me know if you'd like to attend give some updates on the school board's uh annual Workshop uh also I sent out an email today if anybody wants to take the inperson required mandated training uh to let me know I give an update on the napas conference it was a very uh fruitful um conference this year we we saw over 10 legislators um on Tuesday in our visit to the hill which was was a nice uh a nice change we used to see many more and then over the last five or six years it's really dropped off and so this year uh we got to see uh more than half so uh on top of that um we're going to start our annual New Jersey public employees chable campaign and again I thank the board for their support in that campaign and then a brief uh summary on uh the school board election we have three seats that are up um and so the election was November 5th and there's uh everyone's running on opposed and that concludes my report for September can I ask October yeah a real quick question uh regarding the naph um you know my recollection in the past was we only got to see the New Jersey Representatives did you see other or did you only talk to New Jersey reps or did you yes only New Jersey reps but ones outside of our immediate District yes okay thank you yeah I think there's like 18 or 19 um Congress people and we that have touch points to those funds or you're talking to them because they're voting on it anyway yes we encourage them to join the impact Aid Coalition uh we give them an update uh as to what impact Aid is um why it's needed the money that it brings into New Jersey the support it gives to the entire state of New Jersey so it's not just um whether or not uh a facility in their district is receiving impact hate and a lot of the congressman women are incredibly receptive um I know congresswoman uh Watson Coleman has zero districts that are affected by or zero towns affected by naph and she's signed on on as one of the the the leads for one of the bills so we visit as many as we can because even those who don't have the military or federal lands um I mean it's a good bill to be supportive of so we anyone in New Jersey we can make an appointment with we tend to make an appointment with right uh any other questions on the business administrator report all right thank you Mr Cass um item 2.03 and 2.04 are consent agenda items um for committee reports um I'll give a recap from our policy committee meeting that we had on September 30th um we had a pretty extensive meeting um the Dr Zuckerman presented the regulations um and an update on how the administration is doing with reviewing um all of the the regulations uh that we have um they between last year and this year that's their goal and they're making steady progress um after that the process will move on to removing all of the policy that just haven't had mandated updates um then we proceeded to review uh many of the uh policies included in the most recent alert from Strauss ese um many of those you'll see on the consent agenda for first reading um several others were tabled or um sent out to Strauss SM for further clarification um We additionally um there was a uh recommendation to implement uh artificial intellig policies um the committee decided that um we are going to uh instead of creating a separate policy we're going to modify our acceptance acceptable use policy uh to incorporate that artificial intelligence uh portion that was recommended um just to make sure we have something um within our policies that does address that um we spent a good deal of time discussing the transparency policy that uh Mr bucks had suggested um reviewed a lot of the items individually and continue to discuss it um we're coming up with with further questions and ideas and thoughts to to make it fit for our board since it was brought from another board um We additionally looked at uh modifying the agenda to include the the old business new business items um that I know a lot of the board has talked about and we've sort of been starting to incorporate um to have it as a more uh set place in within the agenda each meeting um we uh went into discussion regarding the fac facilities use as U Mr C recently discussed um talking about why the changes were originally made um and how to keep the school as safe as possible but be able to offer the facilities to to the constituencies as they request um and what we needed to do as a board and as a school district to to make sure that everyone was getting what was necessary um and then um um we also discussed uh since we typically go into a brief recess when we have uh visitors at the board meetings um what what form of official policy wanted or official agenda items in terms of um announcing those recesses so they would be known so people coming to the meeting could see on the agenda that there would be a recess provided um after you know that way it wouldn't discourage anyone from coming thinking they would come for a reward and then have to stay for the whole meeting it does give them the option to know that there will be a break for them um so we discussed all those items and have yes yes they're encouraged to stay for the whole meeting but we understand some people may have other obligations um so we yeah we are looking to schedule another policy meeting in November um just to continue discussing the the policies from the alert that we had uh further concerns with or wanted further language in as well as reviewing the transparency policy and continuing to update each of these items that that we discussed so um it was a I think it was almost a 2our meeting so it was pretty extensive discussion um all the committee members did a great job we had a thorough review of all the policies comments from everyone um you know in the five years I've been on policy committee it's easily the most work I've seen the entire committee put in so it was was really great to see that so all of the committee deserves a round of applause for putting that effort forward um I know there was a curriculum meeting tonight I believe that uh report will be given next week um after the minutes are ready um and I know there's a community relations meeting prior to next week's meeting um for delegate reports I know I'll wait on the legislative there's a a lot happening on that front in the state there's been a lot of bills signed from both the Senate and the Congress and on the governor's desk so there's a chance more are processed by next week so I'll wait and give a general update on all of those next week uh Frank do you have any items that yeah next week is the Burlington County meeting so I'll be there maybe live definitely virtual okay um so we'll we might have something for the next meeting to be able to talk about I guess in November okay um yeah all right perfect thank you yep um all right uh then at this time I believe we are ready for the presentation on the High School auditorium yep uh so fvhd if you'd like to come forward so I couldn't get the thing the name I don't know otherwise good evening thank you for the invite we really appreciate this uh this is exciting for us as it is hopefully for you uh this comes at a uh a lot of work to put these images together um I want to start by saying that not a whole lot has changed since the uh previous um I'll call it previous iteration that went out to bid a number of years ago so just more of tweaking uh understanding that we have a an engineer uh we're trying to bring things up to code to make sure that that the building is is current so while that might not seem uh very exciting it's something that we'll have to do anyway to get through the code officials office uh when they do their review so a lot of those things you'll see you you might never even know is going on but that was where a lot of our work was so uh we're excited to show this to you and uh thank you again for the visit I'm going to turn it over to Jason to take you through the presentation thank you thank you uh I'm just going to give an overview of the project um kind of a larger level and then we'll get into some uh details from a floor plan perspective and then we'll get into the the fun part which is um the uh computer renderings of uh what everything's going to look like uh so we'll start out with the overall site plan of uh the high school campus uh you can see just to orient yourself Mansfield Road uh to the lower right there and and um the main new main entrance is right here and as I'm sure most of you are aware the new Auditorium will kind of fit right in that that spot um where it looks like something should go um so the entirety of the uh addition and the uh entry Plaza as well as a new loading dock are in blue the little piece you see here in Orange is um kind of a uh a component that was always is intended to be a work in progress um as part of the auditorium project uh right now it kind of functions as a bit of a passageway for uh the custodial staff and the maintenance staff it leads back to the um main Central storage area uh but the idea is that when the auditorium Edition is built it actually will complete uh another Corridor Loop um that actually will run right behind us here and kind of be able to Loop the cafeteria completely so uh it will kind of complete this Loop here so looking at looking at the auditorium Edition a little bit closer um it says first and second there's not really much of a second floor plan kind of more of an upper plan um but I'll go through that in a minute but looking at the main uh first floor plan obviously we have the main theater area in uh light blue uh to the right is the um main parking lot cafeteria over here to the left uh this orange strip on the right is um an extension of the existing Lobby uh that extends and kind of wraps around the front of the auditorium um couple uh points about that Lobby is it kind of creates a um more of an inviting front to the auditorium than just kind of a solid wall um it allows for some more glass and some more openness than what you could get out of an auditorium because you really want the auditorium to be a solid enclosed uh space with no light uh but the uh Lobby will have uh a lot of glass it'll be lit up uh at night which you'll see shortly uh also some display cases some Gathering space for uh before the show during an intermission after the show um and uh activities like that uh coming in the main entrance up here into the uh main lobby the direct main access to the auditorium in the Middle with two new uh multi-use uh toilet rooms men's and women's uh the intent is to use those primarily for uh performances uh they're going to look similar to the high school uh toilet rooms but also have a little bit more of a nighttime performance kind of upgrade to them so they'll be a little bit more for uh visitors uh parents and the community members coming for uh evening performances um not necessarily they don't necessarily uh need to be there in ter terms of a code requirement or capacity for the building they're more just to enhance the um you know the activities for uh evening and Community performances um moving down to the dark blue area that's the stage um lot of a lot of technology and upgrades and uh complicated uh components to the stage there's uh theatrical lighting system audio visual system uh sound control system uh we're looking at the possibility of an acoustical shell um as an alternate bid uh a rigging system and um most importantly this stage is being built as a fly stage so it has the ability for uh large pieces of scenery to be lifted completely uh up above the stage uh allowing for a much more enhanced uh play performance or uh you know other similar performances on either side of the stage in purple is uh access to a dressing room or um you know a between scenes kind of prep room uh you know separated men's and women's on either side direct access to the stage also directly off the stage in the back is a set construction and set storage uh facility uh accessible both directly to the stage with an overhead garage type door as well as leading directly to the loading dock so that allows for uh easy delivery of components and and uh pieces for performances that can be loaded right into the uh set construction room and then loaded directly uh onto the stage as needed as well as additional uh storage space uh directly off of the stage to the to the right again the Orange is that kind of connector Corridor that allows us to complete the loop around the stage and then just the upper level the only thing really happening in the upper level obviously there a lot of tall spaces for the fly stage but uh in the back uh an upper level uh projection booth uh both for follow spots uh sound a little bit of sound there's also a sound booth down in the main uh area of the auditorium as well but um as well as projecting directly onto the stage uh there is an actually an elevator included that is a requirement by uh code that we do have to add an elevator uh to the projection booth for uh handicapped accessibility so that is kind of an initial view uh up here is a view right as we were wrapping up the construction uh the new editions and Renovations and then taking a a computer generated view of what it will look like when the auditorium is added onto it um this is the uh extra or added lobby area next to the uh Auditorium that had the glass that I was talking about that would be kind of lit up at night um just kind of another view the way you would walk up today and how it will look uh when the auditorium is completed and then at night how it would be lit up um as well again the Interior Space lit up kind of giving that glow uh as you come up to it uh we have a logo for the school that would also be spotlit uh it's similar to the way the lettering is lit up uh today looking at it from the other side we're uh extending the um stairs uh similar to what you have now the stairs coming up to the main entrance kind of a mirrored version of the stairs um on the other side giving direct access to the what we're calling the auditorium Plaza um and then some additional space out front for Gathering and people uh going from the parking lot into the plaza uh what you'll see here that might look a little bit different than the stairs that you have now uh is in between um where the railings are we've added a we'll call it a low very low wall uh this is intended to solve some of the issues that the current uh steps are having with um discoloration and cracking the project also includes replacing those steps to look like the steps you see here so they will all look look the same and be able to solve that issue which has come down to a a concrete pouring problem that the contractors were experiencing um and adding that little element underneath the railings will will correct that issue same view but looking at night kind of and then as you step up onto the plaza again exterior Gathering space uh some bench seating areas uh for people you know again before the performance after the performance um maybe during intermission and then if we were to just step to our left into the lobby uh this is what it would look like um it looks tall it's actually not going to be quite as tall as this lobby but uh it is taller um this Lobby is about 25 fet tall this will be a little bit under 20 uh display cases that line the whole interior more bench uh seating areas similar lighting similar ceiling similar flooring to what the main lobby has but just on a little bit smaller smaller scale there we go and uh this is again other views of the lobby but if we turned around and looked the other direction parking lots out to our left uh just a daytime View and a nighttime view of the lobby uh display cases uh lit up at night and then stepping into the interior of the uh Main theater uh so we're standing kind of in the far back corner looking down at the stage um lot of lot of things to look at here um we'll start with the the main stage area uh we have uh you know some decorative Lighting on the side but we're actually designing uh for future use the option of adding uh digital screens uh for different types of performance activities uh that might enhance uh some of the uh different kinds of performances in the stage uh if you look to either side you kind of see these uh undulating uh panels uh those are for acoustical reasons uh for reference a lot of the colors of the wood you see here will mimic what we have in the lobby um the panel in the lobby are also acoustical in nature as well they're just a little bit different shape but um the floating curved clouds again also acoustical uh a lot of what I'm about to what I'm going to say about the auditorium is acoustical in nature the entire space was analyzed and um the design was assisted through a a professional acoustician uh so the mix of absorption and reflected panels um was analyzed and designed accordingly uh below those kind of below this white sopit is um more of a hard surface uh similar to the whiter walls in the lobby with uh lines going through them uh this white sfet on either side actually contains um decorative uplighting uh it could actually change colors uh again helping to enhance uh performances if we uh spin around and go down to the stage and uh look back you see the main projection booth and follow spot Windows uh on the very back walls where it's very dark blue those are more acoustic panels uh similar to what you see up here these dark acoustic panels again that's more of the absorption uh part of the uh acoustical uh design uh sound booth back here the front area here that looks like it might be special that has uh railing around it uh is a section for the use if um a performance required the use of an orchestra pit uh so the request was not so much to have a traditional Orchestra pit that's sunken down uh below the stage but to have an area up front where the seats could be removed and the area could be used to um display the orchestra and have the orchestra right in the middle front and center again uh just kind of spinning around looking at the uh interior from different different angles some other accents that we've picked up uh from the uh the rest of the building are the red brick uh peers again the idea as Ted mentioned is that the auditorium uh is designed to look like it was always part of the um the original project design which it was uh just came a little bit later then again the view from uh the other Corner in the back these are the doors here you see that would go out to the uh the lobby in the front of the building just one subtle thing I wanted to mention uh we we deal with with people that have some disabilities maybe a wheelchair uh these this is a perfect shot this side area here and this side area here where the doors are are a way to bring somebody from anywhere in the auditorium to the stage without leaving the room I know that sounds subtle but it's really something that we've tried to do in all of our our designs where a lot of wheelchairs could be right here they quickly get to the stage and in most cases they have to leave the room or go out of sight and they can do so right and make it very easy for them to get there's of course there are stairs down in the corners or anybody else that's near the front but uh just just want to bring it to your attention Ada was was a very big part of of our design so just jumping on there so the wheelchair there's a ramp then as well as the stairs for the wheelchair to get on the stage yes yeah I didn't I didn't hear that you probably said it I just didn't hear it yeah um yeah the level of the auditorium you see right here it's the same level that you would come in on from the lobby uh it's actually it's hard to tell in the perspective but it's actually the same level as the stage so when you walk along the side you're at the same level the entire way so a wheelchair can easily uh get to the stage so so all the other chairs are sunk right yes yeah these slope down they're they're down but then it's tiered obviously like a regular auditor Auditorium would be correct yep uh one thing I wanted to point out here you'll see these three gaps uh in the front it's hard to see but uh if you came up and looked closely there are hanging speakers there that are part of the audio system obviously part of the lighting system that you don't see uh we just didn't model it in the rendering is that uh you will see I believe it's along here we'll have a theatrical lighting bar um that uh will it'll hang roughly even with the clouds you'll be able to see it but it's part of the theatrical lighting system as well as some uh what they call Tormentor bars on either side of the auditorium just behind this blue uh column uh Again part of the the overall theatrical lighting uh system for the auditorium and then uh putting all these images together we just have a little bit of a kind of a walk through fly through if you will of what the whole thing looks like put together there's the uh sound booth in the back which kind of has a very Central uh location uh but not necessarily obstructing anybody's view of the stage it's actually designed to have carpet aisles uh in between all the seats but to have uh polished concrete underneath the seats uh that's a very typical uh design for auditoriums mostly from a maintenance perspective it's it's much harder to try and maintain carpet between and under under seats so uh using uh more of a a hard smooth surface is much easier for maintenance just a reminder uh it is a 1200 seat Auditorium uh that includes both the fixed seats and uh the space for the uh handicapped uh accessibility and that's that's everything we have to show you for the atorium any other questions Jason could I also I'm sorry if I can also ask you to explain about the the mechanical U mechanisms behind kind of like in the in the back and also the lighting so somebody doesn't have to get a lift to change the lights and absolutely so um all of the rigging uh over the stage both for lighting uh curtains um scenery things like that is a motorized rigging system so it's uh for lack of better term computer controlled motor controlled um it's how you know most professional theaters are run today and um it's safer obviously for the students and the staff and it will give them um an understanding of how you know most uh contemporary theaters work today additionally what uh Dr Z was referring to is the the light bar uh out here for the theatrical lighting system also is on a motorized um lift that allows it to be lowered and raised for ease of Maintenance replacement adjustment uh things like that all the way down to and level but can stand there and take off anything make adjustment put it up bring it back down make adjustment put back up it's all done without any lifts or anything done a very nice level any other questions yeah um you may have addressed it when you were given the presentation um if someone were to exit stage left could they go behind the stage and enter stage right mean you were showing an orange area that you were saying tied in with other Carters and things like that I think Mr con is smiling because that same question was asked by the teachers as well so ah well good so I'm gonna say North handovers does not do that it's a real flaw the the idea is that the back curtain that you would normally see the back curtain is about 3 to 4 feet off of the back wall so you don't have to even go through another area although you can you literally just go behind the curtain and come back around my my wife is is is an actress so you know I learned a lot from her and she told me that that happens all the time and and yes we are doing that and you can also lift that back curtain and you'll see a scrim across the back wall or you can even lift the scrim and you can just project on the back wall so there's many options and many layers to do what you need to do in whatever manner you want to do it but the answer to your question which is great is yes you can walk all the way behind that curtain and come back uh on the other side without without anybody seeing you okay and then another question we talked about 1,00 sheet capacity yes sir so in the event of graduation when you have to do it inside U and I'm not saying that we need it bigger I'm just saying um like what's a typical class 400 graduating would be a big class three and change right now the largest class we have in District is like 360 small have 400 graduates and then their parents right I mean that's sufficient to house that correct so we can fit 240s um 240 students on the stage theoretically we could fit some students right in front of the stage and then have the 12200 seats for the participants currently um in the middle school we needed to say we needed to take away seats to be able to have Northern TV to be able to broadcast that so currently in the the new setup it's already it's already um spaces that are designed for the the the cameras to be able to go as well so it it is not ideal again in a class that size we would provide approximately three tickets per family right now they got two right so then the other thing is if you're in seat number 1200 all the way in the back how really how far are you from the stage like you know the only thing I'm saying like if if you're that far away and you can't see I think you said there are potentially screens behind the stage that you could you know show something I'm not talking concert type stuff no your question is good one I just I just figured it out and I I can't tell you how I did it uh but it's about 110 feet it's not far it's not it's about 110 115 ft based upon what I know this scale to be um and again I think part of that is is geometry and and I know you know this but in order to get this big of opening and to see all the way back it generates the size you have to kind of work with that because I can't have too many people this way because then they won't be able to see what's here so it kind of the geometry takes care of itself so in order to get that many people that's how that's how big it has to be it's about 110 ft and we're discouraging people from eating in the uh Auditorium right so no no cup holders in the uh in the seats yeah uh we kind of thought somebody might ask about that uh the intent was not to have cup holders um it's not a it's believe it or not it's it's kind of interesting it's not a standard part of an auditorium chair it's like an option but for some reason when you choose the chair for the rendering they throw it in there on you so um it would have taken longer to take it off then to just use the the one they have but no from an actual spec standpoint the cup holder is not included how however some of the seats um have the fold out uh fold down yes pad tablet arms yesh so that we can do some in in instruction yes and in the row towards the back yeah um there's uh um data and an electricity so that we can wheel in a board like this and teach um large group instruction to a section of the of the auditorium yeah so you you say some of the seats like how many of 1,00 100 200 300 I would say around 200 so maybe like aund 100 on this side and 100 on this side maybe um yeah sure never know when Co hits again right and what Rich was referring to is is having uh access to power and data in the floor right here that so just like this you could have a mobile uh teaching wall and have class uh in those two back areas it those seats with the tablets are ideal they're great for like testing if we wanted to have like a larger group testing if we wanted to have I mean there's a variety of uses for that too just one other point to your can you go from stage left to Stage right while yes you can certainly go as as Ted said behind the the scrim there is also actually a set design area and a storage area back there that obviously would be would be um empty and clear during performance so you could go through there and then there is a door to Stage right as well yeah you so there's several options you can come out this door go straight through the stage area and and come in uh on the other side of the stage I have a question you said there's a mobile wall that will separate the two sections is that correct or that it can be put there for the the instructional areas in the back yeah uh no there there is not a a mobile wall included okay he said a mobile uh mobile teaching station like like this screen right okay and has safety been considered you know about classes in there and with the windows in the front I did mean to mention that um from ground level to I believe this level which is well above the height of the doors all of the glass across the whole front on that level will have security uh window film on it and Mr Lee has been involved to make sure that all of the the current security systems that we have in inside the school are also going to be replicated in that that environment as well yes everything from fire alarm to cameras to door access uh to obviously uh the data Network everything will be extended to match everything you have now I believe that Richard has a board resolution to that effect so we want to keep all those similar things including locks uh and other components uh Hardware that is exactly the same as what you have here so just another question um looking at the front entrance we're just going to keep the you're not going to add a second wheelchair ramp we're just going to keep the the one that we have currently correct that's the plan correct the the um included in the scope of the project is uh replacing some of the uh all of the railings that are have been damaged and uh all of the cast stone that's cracked um the cast stone was actually provided by the previous contractor and that will be installed as part of this project thank you Kevin you're you're plotting an elaborate magic act for this for the first first episode right when it launches what's the question with all the questions like exiting left and right you're you're plotting an elaborate magic act aren't you I can tell well we have access to this deck you know it's a little hard to see from back here that we can review it okay thank you we can absolutely send that out and then I just had another question for Dr Zuckerman do we plan to rent out the auditorium is that the goal or is it just that's a great question it is one where I would actually um look to defer that and have discussions with the board while I have my own personal thoughts I and I think it's a great idea I also want to do um as have make sure that the board is involved in that as well all right there's some other questions Jason Ted thank you very very much we appreciate it I said and you know we'd like to have a look at the the presentation respects specifically I think but absolutely um I certainly want to express my thoughts um and appreciation to uh fht to uh to Rich to to Will mcke and Steve Lee for the amount of time they put into this in addition to that certainly like to thank Mr kanowitz all um as well as the all of the teachers in the music departments and that who are involved with the theater program for their feedback I mean certainly it's it's a very much a collaborative process to be able to get to this point so thank you all right um at this time we will move on to the presentation of the student assessment data uh Dr Stella good evening everyone thank you so in August we were with you to review the J GPA results and our students progress on the access for L's and this evening we have some members of our director team who have provided an update on the New Jersey student learning assessments our advanced placement progress and the dlm map and we will also review with you our assessment schedule for the year so each year at this time we talk about the process of teaching and learning and assessment as a cycle and how assessment and state assessment particularly are one element of uh the loop and then just to review that New Jersey's assessment system has a variety of components the first and the last on this list you we reported in August and so we're here this evening to talk about the Assessments in the middle of the um the bullet points there keeping in mind that these are Criterion reference tests versus what some student what are students are taking in other assessments as Norm referenced criteria is measuring them relative to a set of standards and a particular um goal that they're seeking to achieve a particular performance level and so when we speak about the performance levels New Jersey has a very um unique system in terms of five performance levels for some assessments four for others and two for the graduation assessment and so again we're just kind of orienting you to um you know the an overview of the assessment process this time of the year is very busy in terms of relaying these results to the administrative team reviewing them with the faculty we did so at one faculty meeting today and we'll do so in the next build the other building tomorrow reviewing them again this evening with the curriculum committee and here for you tonight recently we sent the results to parents and are communicating with them about all the different resources they can access to review and become familiar with their student scores so each year we show you an example of an assessment uh individual student report that the the parents receive indicating where the proficiencies lie and where um and how the students did relative to expectations and some drill down information on specific uh components of the assessment and how they made progress when uh the student receives the ISR and the parent gets to review it the state provides an option for parents to go into a portal and review the assessment uh sample assessment data I'm sorry sample assessment questions to um you know work with their student before they take another similar assessment so that's a digital library and again we recognize the importance of data in our process of communicating of course selection of helping students make uh meet their academic goals in structuring and strengthening collaboration and then continuing to evaluate our curriculum our programs and to help support our the professional development that we select moving forward and so now we have again the content Specialists of our director team uh Debbie Dro Dr Leslie pente Irvin and then uh Miss Lisa Peters for special education to review each of the components and then we'll come back and talk about the uh entire schedule for the year good evening thank you for being here and thank you for the opportunity to share our data with you um in mathematics um we the good news is is that we're doing better than the state I do need to address um the difference between math s and math 8 in math seven or in seventh grade we have two different math classes we have advanced math 7 and we have math 7 they all take the same assessment so you can see that they are doing significantly better than the state is in math 8 in 8th grade we have a math 8 and then we shave off about 120 kids that take Algebra 1 the algebra 1 kids take Algebra 1 and the math 8 kids take math8 so that's why there's a significant decrease there um but again we have we're still doing better than the state same thing with our Algebra 1 scores we're still better than the state we are looking to improve this math 8 we've made some programmatic changes at the middle school um middle schoolers used to take an entire class of a regular math eight class and then they took a semester of Geo and prob what we were finding when we took a deeper dive into the data is that depending on when the kids took that GE on prob that was kind of where our difficulties were is in those standards um so now that we've uh eliminated that course and we've expanded the the actual math 8 we've created a lot more coherence um and we've given a longer period to the students I have a question could you go back please sure what's your thoughts around why we outpace the state at the grades seven and then that dramatically falls off for uh eight and Algebra 1 any thoughts there and if you did say it at the end there and I just didn't connect if you could just resay it yeah it's it's the advanced kids because the advanced kids in in grade seven they take the same test as the regular kids but in MA when you get to eighth grade the advanced kids don't take the same test they take algebra one and the rest of the kids take math eight so why not remove the advanced kids out of seven so that you have a more disparate uh data assessment as opposed to because it looks like it looks like we're doing really great in seven and then you hit eight and nine and like we're pretty much close to the average of the state so right it just curious why you decide to include the advanced kids in that and and not versus not because they grade seven I don't get to decide that they have to take the math seven so there no you have no choice in your dat no there's not an advanced math 7 test got it okay okay thanks sure sorry and if I could same slide maybe go to a little different route around this because I think what Frank points out is certainly is there is a a pretty large disparity and I guess what I don't understand from from the graph is um we see quite a difference in math 7 right absolutely like no questions there but then when you look at the difference that exists for math 8 and then the difference that exists in Algebra 1 it seems like we've lost a a whole lot regardless of the breakout between who's in math 8 versus Algebra 1 like I would expect to see a larger gap between those yeah absolutely what we included in Algebra 1 is both we have middle school students that are taking Algebra 1 in eth grade but we also have high school students that are taking it in ninth grade and we do struggle with our ninth grade algebra one so is there a larger universe of students that are represented by math 7 or math 7 versus math 8 in Algebra 1 I guess I'm trying to understand the percentages here and maybe the rawal numbers would be would explain a little better at least to me genous and heterogeneous talk about that yeah so I think what you're referring to is that the algebra one score is has both the math eight or both the algebra kids from 8th grade as well as the nth grade kids so if we were to break it out a little bit further the eighth grade Algebra 1 kids do much better than the ninth grade algebra 1 kids so that could so when they're all put together then it it changes the um the appearance of the results but I think some so in the future maybe it may be helpful to kind of separate it by grade level because then you you'd see that that distinction as well um that ver well may help or or again you know just the the raw numbers versus the percentages because if that Universe of math 8 and Algebra 1 say is 500 students versus math 7 only includes Universe of 300 students you know it's just it's not showing I guess here that so not to beat it to death but to me it does why why would ninth grade algebra 1 do worse than eighth grade algebra one because they're your your Advanced kids in in eth grade you have students that are very interested in mathematics and they've selected to study and take that mathematics course the students the nth graders had to because it's they have to take it graduate yeah I sorry I I'd like to beat it a little bit further um feel free so it's just a pet peeve for me since since covid um is there any way that we can see how this has changed over time um my concern is that students that are in at least probably the last two years when we see the seventh and eighth grade scores and we take a look at the grammar score scores because and I've been near and dear to those for the last six years right there's a big problem in the LA since basically 2020 of math and English scores really falling off and we've G we've given um a lot of feedback to the or at least Mansfield has given feedback that you need to prepare the seventh and eighth grade teachers of what's coming in because you're sending in kids that are really below low on on the scores it's probably gotten better recently but I think it would be helpful for us to see maybe over the last four years like what's the differences in comparison are we getting better are we getting worse are we staying the same because just looking at it from a one-year standpoint it's kind of like all right great but but how are we getting better or or or addressing that over time it's been pretty similar um but we are seeing Improvement anecdotally I can tell you that the seventh grade teachers have seen a tremendous difference this year than they have over the last three years four yeah so and it's also important to know that this is what we see nationally I mean we're comparing it to the state now but nationally it it's even more significant but the good news is is that we are improving and again I'm going to go back to we're doing better than the state and that's that's really where we want to be right now good okay so here's some of the hard cold numbers so you can see that in math 7 we had 376 kids that took the test but then in math 8 we only had 2011 and then our algebra across the district is 348 and so here we break down the demographics um what I think is very interesting is typically they try to say that um males are better at math and females are better at Ela that's not necessarily the case here our females and our males are very close in how they're performing um this data really isn't telling us anything that it hasn't told us before um our special ed population is a challenge but it's also important to know that only the top 1% of our special ed kids are allowed to take an alternate assessment every other child has to take the same assessment as the regular grade level any questions okay now we move on to science um before I show you this I do want to let you know that the uh State science committee has been working on this assessment for quite some time now um and still in the eth grade across the state only 18% are proficient we were just at a Burlington County Consortium with the head State guy for science um and that's a concern that only 20% of the kids less than 20% of the kids are showing proficiency but again we're at least above that number um when you look at science 11 the the battle there is that um when they take the test they're assessed in four grade levels 9 through 12 of science standards in their third year so that's a lot to wrap your brain around but that's really that's really tough for the kids you know because they haven't had that fourth year of science yet and you're already assessing them again we're doing better than the state so this is proficiency like how many kids have hit so you're saying we're below I can't see it because my eyes are so for our eighth grade kids across the state of New Jersey only 18% of them showed that they were proficient on won this assessment that has been looked at over and over so aren't we concerned about that that one out of five kids are proficient yes exactly that's why we had the Burlington County Consortium is to try to figure out what's going on and why what is this assessment really assessing fortunately we do have a teacher who's on one of those assessment committees so she comes back and she keeps us in the know but yeah it is a concern I also think it's very important to keep in mind that the state assessment data is one data set yeah that our district uses um local assessments to be able to measure ongoing performance in alignment with the state standards to be able to make sure that our students are making the intended growth and gaining the intended understanding of those Concepts there are some students for a variety of reasons that do not form well on standardized assessments I'm not saying that 18% is acceptable at all I I don't think any any of us would would say that if we were a business we'd be out of business yes I mean thank God we're not but right but then we do have other measures like local measures that demonstrate the contrary to this that the students do demonstrate that understanding that was intended where does New Jersey stand across the United States is that pretty much what we're seeing across the us or is New Jersey better or worse with that do we know New Jersey is always a step above um in the nation they just have to figure out how to truly assess what they want to assess because we're not really convinced that and they're not at the state level they're not convinced that this assessment is assessing everything that they want to assess M stroke do you find that because it's not a requirement for graduation are the students who are taking this are they serious about it what's the motivation level of the student taking it so there's that too um going back to Mathematics Algebra 1 used to be a requirement or the the children could have banked it as a graduation requirement later on the state has since done away with that so do the kids know that this test doesn't really count for anything they do um do our teachers tell them that no our teachers tell them to do your best because we want to collect the data and at the very end of the day your family name is attached so you know please try to do your best but do they always I'm not so sure the data is not consistent with what we collect on a local level and just to I think Echo Frank sentiment from earlier I think a historical view of these scores would be helpful as well sure okay so again um these are our subgroups nothing that we haven't seen before when you're talking about historically um again our females and males are doing pretty similarly um they might be a little bit more mature in grade 11 than they are in grade eight um again we do have some concerns with our special ed but even though they have different levels they still have to take the same test and the science test tends to be very heavy on the reading any questions there okay I'm gonna turn it over to Dr lesie pente irvan one more question before you break away though sorry um was there a change to the science standards in the past couple of years or has that been relatively stady we've been operating under the 2020 okay science standards um they will be up for review I think it's like every five years that's why why I ask I knew that was going to be coming soon thank you good evening so um we're doing better than the math so that's encouraging hopefully that uh uh puts some uh Smiles on your face and uh changes the you know changes the perspective but we are doing um a little bit better um you talked about historically we we been consistent the last couple of years since the pandemic if you will um but as uh Deb mentioned we we've made some changes to our programming um this is the first year that we have um the block schedule at the middle school um just like Deb mentioned they had the go and prob um elective which really wasn't an elective but it it was a semester course and its counterpart was um composition for both seventh and eth grade so we did away with that and so now the composition part the the writing um practices have been integrated in the full year course and students now have um 68 minutes of ela and math every day so we're hoping that that's going to make a significant uh difference in um the scores as we uh delve deeper into the data we also learned that um the gaps that we found were in writing so that made sense right because the the the composition course was an elective and so if you had composition the second semester right you didn't have the same amount of time to practice writing as someone who had composition in the fall right so now um we've increased our writing practices again with the 68 minutes every day there's more opportunities to develop those skills and so we're optimistic that that that's going to uh that that data that um disaggregated data that focuses on the writing is going to look different next year um again consistent with the last um year or two uh did I say even three years um you know uh our Asian and our white population um doing really well um what we found that was really interesting is that the female uh demographic is you know outperforming the males which is not surprising um at all um but yeah same same same data similar to the math did you want to add something so to share we've woven some of the points of how we're addressing the data into the conversation that you just heard from both Deb and Leslie uh that we have a lot of schedule and and programmatic changes occurring we're fortunate to have push in and pull out intervention support for Math and English in the Middle School uh this year we've taken uh some additional support that we had available in mathematics and our co- teing any of our algebra sections that would not otherwise be supported and uh we continue to support students who need assistance with reading and we do monitor their progress through our own local Benchmark system as well to Target uh you know where which standards we're we're needing to you know spend more time on and how to continue to uh develop our teachers to meet the students needs and Miss Peters is going to share our update on dlm and then we'll come back uh to Review AP and wrap up our presentation so the dynamic learning Maps is the DM that's the test our most students with most significant disabilities take uh both in and out of District the thing to note here is that it is a small population only 1% of our students are to take the dlm um of those students though the majority are at Target or Advanced and again this includes these numbers include students that we administered dlm2 here in District it's a one-on-one test with the teacher and students that are given the test at a district um those students are even more significantly um disabled so a lot of times the emerging and approaching students are those out of District students our in District students are meeting Target and advanced um for science there are no numbers reported because there's less than 10 students taking the science dlm and then some of the things we do excuse me I have a question on your previous slide sure so I'm from the old school where it was ABC's and all that type stuff so we have emerging what what does that mean and approaching like how much better is approaching than emerging those are the terms the state is giving okay but can you translate it for based on the results the students get um they're earning points on tasks so the number of points then the state determines whether they're emerging approaching at Target or advanced um so you than I knew before well emerging is the lowest score you can get obviously I figured that yes and then we're still not answering my question I think um Miss Peters it would also probably be helpful if you say what was what would be considered a passing score from the state the passing score is at Target so that's the minimum of of the proficiency does that answer the question okay um so the state uses language it sometimes to try to make make everybody feel a little bit better right yeah the score though like one out of 10 five out of 10 I mean is there a is there a relevancy to it or is it just random words that we can just assume they're they're relating it to points they're earning on the tasks they're doing and the tasks they're doing are based off of the state standards for for students at their level so um it's not a test everyone's test is different got it so it's it's a the scale isn't the same as a typical scale for the regular State tests unlike the the the assessments that that both miss droke and miss pente irin uh spoke to about those are based on the same standards for all students that that take those tests these these tests the dlm is the the level of the assessment is based on the ability of the child right so it it is completely different Matrix so they dumb down the test to the child well you're talking about students who may not even be able to respond verbally so some are using an eye gaze system some are you know okay and I'm believe me I'm not trying to pick on you that's okay okay I mean you you you're you're playing the hand you were D and I have problems with that but nothing you can do about that um so we don't have all the same student the same type of student getting all these different grades or these different categories right you're you're saying they're a mixed bag and again that's not meant to be derogatory in any case at all but but we're not we're not working with a you're not a neurotypical student you're not working with a neurotypical student no but you're right they they all they may all have different disabilities they may all have different um some may be non-verbal some may be be verbal but but um cognitively at a at a different level okay all right so that that also changes I guess my reaction a little bit because we are talking about that class and students with with very significant disabilities yeah all right thank you you're welcome so some of the things we do when we get these results back is we're obviously reviewing the outcomes to identify the student strs and needs and then making adjustments to their IEPs and their goals and objectives as needed we focus lessons on the non-proficient areas um and then we have a a plethora of systems we use Within These classrooms to address the students on their level so I ready Alex linkit mobimax and Edmark are some of the programs these teachers in these programs use to help you know identify the areas and to help address the needs in the subject areas that they have questions I have a question okay if and of course we're going to go back a slide if you could go back yes sorry so is this where you would hope we are in terms of this program or do we have opportunities for improvement here what's the assessment for the board to say okay where the program is going the way we want it to go or it's not right we're we're not meeting our own expectations as a district well again now we have to remember this is a mixture of in District students so students were were educating right here in our in our schools right and students who are out of District so their needs were so much greater that we couldn't address them here in school and meet meet them appropriately this includes the out of District this includes out of District as well um for our teachers here in District I do think they're doing a phenomenal job of addressing the needs of the students and meeting them where they are academically um you know and you have to remember a lot of these students their academics are focused on basic life skills right so that's what we're looking at um you know how do we make them a productive citizen in our world today so the spirit of my question the reason I asked that is because I want to understand are do we believe that our program is in a good place and that we're actually doing what we what we would like to do or do we have opportunities for improvement or is there something the board you know you need to bring to the board to say we need opportunity or we need to increase opportunities in this area and fund something else and and I guess with the the data being aggregated across in District and out of District it probably might be better to have them separated if you're allowed to do that I know there's a some data verific the the you can't report if there's less than 10 so that's why we do that um and I'm you know I think as Educators we're always looking to improve right and improve our programs there's always more we could do um you know I think we have great programs here and we're always looking for ways to to help our students and assist our students especially the students we're currently receiving um you know seem to have some greater needs so we are going to have to make adjustments and adaptations as we move forward and and one last comment because I'll go back to probably where Frank may go you know not a business but taking some some business principles you know every time we finish a project or we some sort of report it's common place for us to do some sort of postmortem right and analyze our own performance of whatever it was that we were working on it might be helpful for future presentations around this for us to do that sort of assessment to say yes we believe that we did a good job and we delivered what we expected to deliver this past year or no these were opportunities for improvement or you know these are things we did well versus not so maybe future you know feedback for future sort of presentations just to again so that you know the board I think wants that sort of assessment from from the staff to say we did really good or we didn't do so so well and these are opportunities for us yeah if and if I could build on that like my questions are focused around you guys meaning what do you showing us the data is one thing um what do you need from us what can we do to help you right I think that's really where the rubber hits the road you're working so hard I'm you know I'm like we're at 18% that's awful I mean in my opinion for any the fact that the state is at that I mean we should be asking lots of questions sure but we can't control that but what we can control is how we react to it and so where I would challenge you guys is that come to us with hey we could probably go from 18 to 25 if we had X Y and Z because then we can help you right as opposed to being like okay great thanks for sharing the data and I go home and I forget about it until next year when you show up and show me the data this was feedback I used to give to the Mansfield uh teachers as well I'm like tell us what you need right so we had so I literally was just sitting down with with Miss Peters today and I asked her the question that we were trying to project on what her requests were going to be for the budget and we had some of these conversations there are there are quite a number of areas that that we discuss and then she's going to go back bring back information so ultimately when we come to the finance committee with the proposed budget it will be included in there so then that way it's kind of thinking ahead and projecting for for next year we all know it's a fixed budget and and and so on these numbers do play into that as well correct a couple other things just in in context of this discussion and I know Miss Peters said it but just to kind of reinforce only one we're only allowed to only 1% of our special education students are eligible to be able to take the dlm so we so if we get let's say two students move in who are at a lower ability than some of our students who took the assessment those two students are now moved out and they have to take that general education assessment that was just talked about previously in the assessment that's why the numbers fluctuate so much um in that so if we're talking about 10% or 1% of the 130 students that's why we get 13 students in in the assessment that's that's how it it's listed as that now because it's only the eighth grade is given the the Science assessment not all of those 13 students may be in eth grade which is why we're under 10 which is why we're under an N of 10 so that's within that but um at the same time in the presentation um as you'll hear later in in in the weeks in the coming months we have certain requirements that we are that we have to be able to include in that presentation for qac um so in order to be able to say that we met this requirement for qac and check we have to have certain components in this it doesn't mean we can't add the historical data in the future that's certainly good but we have to have the components that were shared as those qack requirements which is why those those components were selected to be able to discuss this evening so I think I just have one more question and I appreciate you putting up with me um because I really think I'm being enlightened here but I thought I heard you say that what you're trying to do is teach life skills and is that one of the other reasons that there's not so many in the science area so they don't the science is not a graduation requirement and so um not all of our students take the science area in the outed District placements um so and and then they only take it in 11th grade um not the eth grade I believe e8th grade takes it now sorry I'm thinking fourth grade um so the 10 so they just there was a different number there um than the total amount here because they didn't take the exam so not all the students have to take the science they have to take the English and the math is that Frank I think it's worth worth pointing out that like the change in the block schedule and the change to the middle school schedule is like one of the things that the administration brought to us to improve as a board so they are bringing stuff to us and like that's a prime example of what they brought to try to improve that middle school is giving more time for Math and English I didn't ask that question because I assumed it and I'm I'm looking forward to maybe two years from now looking at our data prior to block then postblock saying did it have an impact because then that gives us the data to say okay great give us more feedback let's do more of these Innovative type of approaches to getting the results that you want right it's all about you you bring us the data and then tell us what what you need so that we can help you um so it's really good I'll give you a whole list that's fine yeah that's why we're here right I mean that's that's why the nine of us are here listening to you to to help back appreciate that that's that's great thank you so we have a thriving AP program very proud of it we offer over 20 courses we also offer the opportunity for students to um self-study so if we don't offer the course they can still register and self-study for any course um and take the exam um at the end of the year and so um last year we had over 300 students take uh over 600 exams and out of those 300 students 303 students we had 259 students score a three or higher which is exceptional and so we are constantly being recognized nationally um because uh again our students perform really well those who are in the program and um and so yep so that so we we've been again always uh doing really well um we also recognized uh students um as Scholars we had 53 students who received the the distinction of AP scholar and those are students who received scores of three or higher on three or more AP exams we had 16 students who were um uh uh who were um recognized excuse me as AP scholar with honor and those are students who receive an average score of at least a 3.25 on all AP exams um and scores of at least a three or higher on at least four exams and then we had 41 students who were recognized as AP scholar with distinction and those are students who receive an average score of at least a 3.5 on all AP exams that they took and scores of three or higher on five or more AP exams and then we have the Capstone diploma and um that's a two-year commitment so students can enroll in AP seminar sophomore year and they they commit to two years it uh they take uh AP seminar and then uh junior year they take AP research they need to earn a three in AP seminar in order to advance to AP research and if they meet the um the criteria they earn an AP Capstone diploma which is a designation um during graduation and for students who don't quite meet both criteria um uh they uh are still recognized and they receive a certificate so we had eight students who received a certificate and nine who completed the program successfully say that again the highest score is a five is a five yes okay yes any questions all right so if I can add one thing that we also talked about during the curriculum meeting is that um we have not forgotten about the the interest in adding additional AP classes that that was previously discussed um last year there was a survey that was provided to the students we have those results um again that is the information we're uh discussing now that will be presented to the curriculum committee when we meet in December um along with the proposed course of study thanks for looking my way um is AP econom is AP economics somewhere on that list is that being considered discussion it was on the yes it is on the list thank you yes so we're very excited again and proud of our advanced placement program we also I want to acknowledge and thank our um AP department leader uh Miss Maria Tomasetti who helped us put this together as well um and finally we've shared our assessment schedule for the year it is um a lot of windows for a lot of various assessments uh that we it's administer throughout the year and we do our best to minimally disrupt instruction um but some of these are full grade levels and multiple days and so we are still working out the details of how to U administer these with the least uh again leas disruption to the school year and it looks like we have a question coming yes are they taking the PSATs in school the is it the yes that's going to be Friday October 25th uh college board changed that a year or so ago that we can administer it any day in the month of October no longer the second or third Wednesday what it had historically been for years thank you okay so again we know we gave you a lot of information we appreciate the feedback we know that a year-to-year comparison would certainly be more helpful um and we'll look to again you know directly connect this to our W our wishes as we prepare for the next budget cycle thank you again well done thank you thank you all very very much appreciate all the work that you put in not only here but also with with the teachers so thank you thank you very much we appreciate it um agenda item 4.03 is intended for next week's regular meeting for that presentation um Mr Lee if you could please check for comments on agenda items no all right thank you um for the work session meeting I will proceed through the contention D items by category heading um if anyone has an item within a section they'd like to discuss uh we can do it at that time section five is routine matters reports to the board uh any questions for Section Five all right section six is approval of bills any questions for Section six I'm sorry so this is preparation for next weekend next week's meeting correct correct yes all right yes there will be no content agenda item vote foron um sorry I may ask I may ask you to go back I yeah but keep going all right uh section s is business and financial um there any questions in section s all right uh section8 is students any questions or comments in section eight all right section nine is Personnel appointments uh any questions or comments for Section n all right section 10 is change of assignment uh any questions for Section 10 section 11 is leave of absence any question for Section 11 section 12 is separation of employment uh any questions or comments for section 12 I was just curious on um 12.03 are we gonna be without a A can I can I ask the question a mechanic are we going to have a mechanic is that the only District mechanic we have than well we have three uh mechanics and so um we will be down one and we replace them yes all right um any other questions for section 12 all right uh section 13 is Personnel miscellaneous any questions or comments on any items in section 13 all right uh section 14 is programs any questions or comments for section 14 uh section 15 is policy any questions or comments for section 15 section 16 is Transportation uh any questions or comments for section 16 section 17 is use of facilities any questions for Section 17 right U Mr Buck did you have any sections that I passed I do um so back to I guess the uh super Ba's report section yes I had a couple of questions so on the superintendent's report um I noticed for the committee one of the committee agendas um we had AI on there I think it was inside of curriculum and Technology no that was our we had our policy committee on the 30th we discussed the that I remember but I thought I saw it in an agenda on another committee meeting as well I thought it was sorry forgot to turn on the microphone um it was recommended or it was asked for one of the board members um to be able to place that on a on a future curriculum committee meeting to see how we're working to integrate that all all right so I just want was my question why end up we actually table that or propos that for the December curriculum committee meeting okay um and then also I know we uh I guess you'll discuss policy committee up or policy committee updates at next meeting so I gave a full committee report before you got here um I went through the meeting agenda presented yeah to the board I I knew this you were at the meeting and I knew we had all of the board members who were not present so I felt it a very valid evening to give it in case anyone couldn't make it next we I just wanted to make sure that there was going to there was an update there great yep um my other questions were on the um the ba reports I know that um so there were some documents that were mentioned in there in the ba report um and I was curious if we can actually get some of those documents like the CMP worksheet um is that something will'll be shared with either the finance committee or with the board or do I just send you request Rich to it's attached to the resolution it is on the resolution okay I did not look there I was focused on your report and then um the audit as well I saw that the audit report I guess the letter from the Auditors was there do we have an actual we have the audit as well is that attached as well the audit is still being completed they're still here they are still auditing yes okay that I wasn't clear on um that's it thank you typically get that in like all right um we normally get the audit in November December sorry I didn't have the microphone um Mr Lee do we have any public comment nms all right thank you I have something yep um so for Section 20 uh future dates as you heard from Dr Zuckerman as a reminder next week's meetings are on Tuesday uh due to holiday in the school closure um as well as the upcoming school boards convention um and then um at this time uh if anyone has any we we'll start with any old business items that they looking for updates on or would like to request an update next week if anyone has anything only thing I'd say is I I had a chance um last week to come in and check out the uh optional the the 10:30 to 11:30 session between lunch and uh um what the students do if if you opportunity opportunity yeah sorry opportunity uh period if you haven't check it out it was worth the uh the hour of time I spent here to observe it and see it and questions that I've heard from the community and whatnot completely 100% put to rest it's it's really well done I would I would call it a exceptional job of Controlled Chaos um and the other class CL and things that people can do you can see the kids are really enjoying it and their feedback is was Universal of ones that walked up and and I asked questions of so I I recommend that if you have the time check it out it's really cool yeah I just want to um um make a comment about the additional uh information with the HIV reports I really appreciate that extra information that uh we were provided um as a board and then if we can get just a brief update on the back bathrooms for next week if we could um just report out on that if possible was say if I could add all on to that I was at a uh a gathering this weekend and I had um five different families ask me what the update was so um it'd be great maybe if um we kind of keep that maybe as a standing item so we talk about progress or or however that' be be helpful thank you um in regards to that I give it in my legislative report next week but the uh house just passed a resolution on vaping education in schools and there's a bill on the Senate as well um just because they real they the state knows it's an issue everywhere so it is it is in the state legislature um and they're trying to pass said the house passed the Senate bill hasn't hasn't been brought up yet but there is legislature out there regarding the vaping in schools and what they can do to just even in in terms of information and put it out there so um but but I said I'll get was going to give that next week in case more stuff is passed between now and then so um if there's no other old business anyone have any new business they'd like to uh bring up to Dr Zuckerman Mr Cass or any committees I actually have just a a new bit just something more of an FYI I shared again shared this with the curriculum committee um as as you know we will be going through the qac process um this year the qac the the dprs I have no idea what DPR stands for um District District performance review thank you I didn't think it was that simple but thank you I appreciate that um the district performance review is due to the state we have to submit that by November 15 our board meeting is on November 18th um if we do not have a board resolution along with that we actually lose points we will be sharing that with you uh later this week and putting that as a non-consent item on next week's agenda so I just wanted to give everybody the heads up on that right uh does anyone else have any new business items all right um with that we will be going into executive session just want to let the public know there will be no business conducted following executive session um and with that can I get a motion to enter executive session go on Executive session second all right all those in favor I all opposed abstentions right thank you we'll proceed to Executive session e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e
