December 1st and that's it well thank you for your comprehensive report and I told M uh Dr Warren that that I I Mario Kart is the only one that I can do for the eort so I I I'm going to try my best to make it for the next competition so thank you um few things for the uh remainder of my report I attended the the November meeting for the Burlington County Chamber of Commerce I learned a great deal about the chamber and made some ver very promising contexts that contacts that I'm hopeful will benefit our students and our district in the future earlier this month I had the opportunity to meet with the new JB jbmdl based leadership team it was a great opportunity to learn about their vision and how they're how they want to engage in a collaborative relationship to ensure that we're continuing to support our our military students and their family we're going to continue to meet on a regular basis and I will certainly provide you with updates um that are appropriate along the way last week I was made aware of a a few uh I was made aware of a few parent emails that were sent to a middle school teacher teacher pertaining to a literary literary excerpt that was used in class this excerpts were from the publication titled Melissa two excerpts that were used in this book were used with all of our seventh grade English language arts classes for the past four years the use of this lit the use of this literature was put into place after 2021 after a directive from the New Jersey Department of Education this state statute requires the youth requires us and all other public school districts to include liter literature that represents a diverse population in our community I sent the board an email earlier today that contains a few more specifics about this situation it is right my recommendation that we add this to the next board curriculum committee meeting agenda to review not only the current practices and also discuss them in further detail if I can continue to ask the Board of Education to encourage parents to contact the school if they have concerns rather than go to social media by contacting the school we can learn firsthand about their concerns and also share information directly with these individuals rather than than have the comments on social media drive the information and sometimes that drives misinformation as well one other thing that that you will see on this evening's agenda you will see several people being recommended for the part-time security positions these individuals will work to oversee the Safety and Security when the recreation programs use our facilities in the evenings and on the weekends we continue to interview for additional security monitors and I expect that you will have additional candidates for you to review during the December meeting that concludes my report yes go ahead this on no oh there we go uh Kevin Zimmer speaking uh I think it's great that you went to the Burlington Chamber of Commerce I just wanted to mention several years ago uh I was I belong to the northern Burlington chamber and there were some teachers from this school I believe they were child study team maybe that were members do we know what ever happened I I mean I thought it was great that they went to those meetings probably for the same reason that you were going they were making contacts and finding out different things that were available in the township and what I did look to see I I can't see I can't seem to find a northern Burlington Chamber of Commerce I did find a mercer Burlington Chamber of Commerce which is more centered around uh the Mera County um organizations which is where I elected to and that could be my that could be my my mistake if you have anything on a northern Burlington chamber I'm happy to join sure um by by being a partic ipant in the Burlington County anybody from I can send anybody from the school district as part of our membership so if we see an event for health and fette I can I can send Mr Cataline if I we see anything we can I can send any individual that that it's pertinent to I know that would work as well with Northern Burlington but I'll give you the information if you if you have any contact I'm happy to to follow up on that as well sure any other questions about my report thank you so much thank you Dr Zuckerman uh Mr Cass if you'd like to go through your business administrator's report please certainly thank you uh it's pretty light this this month but I congratulations go out to Jerry Spence and Paul narwood for their reelection to the board uh you guys get Dr Zuckerman and I will schedule a time to provide her an orientation prior to that that meeting uh my board report it's been busy with the audit and now we're getting ready for budget so um I just included some details as to what those processes uh inail and where we are uh in that uh in those processes we had a finance committee meeting tonight with a very comprehensive agenda that will report on uh more thoroughly in the December meeting and then lastly there's a joint Insurance Fund event coming up and I wanted to know if any board members uh wish to attend and if so please uh let me know uh by the end of the evening that concludes my report thank you does anyone have any questions regarding the ba report all right um at this time I believe we're going to progress over to the uh middle we're jumping we're jumping back back gotta we we jump down to get them their L back at section two all right Mr pigs thank you just a couple highlights from my board report for the month of November we just completed parent conferences a slightly different setup um this time around we had a combination of inperson as well as virtual trying to accommodate as many parents as possible um so we we did that over on Election Day we had some um in-person conferences first thing in the morning people wanted to get their first thing perhaps before they went to work or what have you and then in the afternoon we had virtual conferences and we had a steady flow of people in person and I'm told we had a steady people virtual obviously I didn't lay eyes on them as they were coming in and then we had a session of evening conferences on no November 13th and we got to see a number of parents come through the um through the middle school so it was good to see all those parents we did a different setup this year typically we've used a purchased software product to uh have parents register for conferences and this year we used a Google um calendar to set up the conferences and so that much much more cheaper and and to be perfectly Frank with you I thought it was much easier to set up than than the bigger software program so we used that to um register have parents create the schedules to meet with their their teachers and that seemed to go smoothly so we're pleased with that we have a new club in the middle school as the board knows called angor for life and this is connected to the uh milit you know the base military students um designed you know to to address the needs specific of military students but it's also their services available for all of our students so for example one of our anchor for Life students is responsible for taking new students on a tour of the building a lot of our new students of course are our military but when we don't have military students that are new the anchor for Life students do the same same thing for them and provide them with you know a Welcome to our school and what I want to highlight is in my board report they put together a really nice program for for Veterans Day we had a they had a display in the the Middle School main office where um you know students were invited to name a veteran that's in their life and obviously for our military families that's Mom or Dad Mom Andor dad in some cases um as well as all the rest of our students who wanted to to acknowledge a veteran and they also designed a flag display that we was out here in the front of the um of the School uh the ptsc want to thank them for running their book fair in the month of October they were there for for a week and our students had an opportunity to see the different uh Scholastic offerings and I want to thank the ptsc for setting up the book fair and they had a steady um supply of volunteers to man the book fair so it was really great to to see all of them our Middle School drama program they take the stage on December 6th and 7th and they are presenting a science fiction uh program called space wars 2000 I suspect it came out many years ago 2000 does sound quite as futuristic as it perhaps once did but uh looking forward to see our students bring that that show to life on our stage and those are the U you know the main items in my report obviously there's some other items that you can can review if you have any questions for me before I turn it over to Dr mcken thank you very much Dr M all right so just some highlights um The Hobbit is this weekend I didn't really know what a hobbit even looked like this morning but I searched it um they have pointy ears and some other things so if you're interested in coming out um they're here 7 PM Friday night Saturday night and 2 pm Saturday Sunday um and they have a double cast show so there's tons of kids performing it'll be really exciting if you have some time to come out um and then we're going to roll right into NHS induction and concert season coming soon so if you're you're looking for some things to fill your evenings um we had open housee which I felt like was really awesome I had not experienced an open house here but just seeing so many programs um and seeing so many of our teachers really Embrace really cool things they do in some of their programs um was really nice to see they were 3D printing things to show parents the ROTC was here in full dress ready to go um just kind of really a cool experience um to see and we got to have a lot of the community come out and check it out which was really nice um we survived homecoming um and some moments it was unclear if that would happen um but we did allow seniors to bring guests we let all students um who wanted to come uh pretty much come and we still ended up only with about 900 students um that's exciting for us because it means that we can think about the prospect of having more grade levels bring guests in the future um potentially and kind of some of the things that we were concerned about what the spacing would look like and what um having a longer amount of time to sell tickets would look like and all that turned out not to really be as concerning as what we anticipated um so that was exciting and it seems like uh students had a really nice time um we had the PSAT um which I think students always do a really nice job and are very focused with but one of the other things that I thought was a real highlight um for us was the the 10th and 11th graders uh do the PSAT that means the 9th and the 12th graders have some programming while the other students are um testing the nth graders had presentations around navon so they could first learn about the software that helps them kind of figure out their career progression and um their way through high school um and then they had vaping assemblies that prevention plus ran for free for us they're a group based out of Burlington County that runs different substance use um programs so that was really nice for them um and our seniors attended a assembly with alumni um who were notable alumni from northern who we recruited and got to come out and be part of a panel students submitted questions in advance of the panel so they knew what the questions were going to be and then some of them even read off their questions to the group um and it's something we're hoping to do for seniors every year um on PSAT day going forward it was a really nice showing um you heard tons of things are happening from ammani both with sports we had really successful season and we have a ton of activities um going on so uh to continue to be on the lookout um one really interesting highlight is we were part of this T-Mobile competition um to try to get folks to vote um it was called like Friday Night Lights and it ran through our football uh team and we got a thousand check presented to us from T-Mobile for being part of that you had to get a certain number of like likes on social media in order to continue to advance in the competition so that was like a really uh interesting highlight and then uh last I get asked a lot while I'm here about the bathrooms and the function of the bathroom so I wanted to fill you in on where we're at with that um we the bathroom sinks are half repaired at this point they've done all the electrical the plumbing is getting finished they realized what all the issues were um and then we'll have all of the sinks back to operation after Thanksgiving we also opened a third set of bathrooms so in addition to the main bathroom and the 600 bathroom we opened the 300 bathrooms by West gym um we've got a lot of positive feedback especially from folks in the math hallway who were sending kids all the way up here to this main bathroom before but are now able to just send them right down the hallway to that bathroom it's decreased the amount of um waiting in lines and I think made it just a little bit of a quicker um situation and we were able to staff that with a combination of some of our permanent subs and then some of our teachers who have Duties are using that Hall Duty space uh to monitor so we've seen no um additional negative behaviors or anything that was problematic because we've been able to continue to supervise those spaces in a way that we think has been positive that's all I have if anybody has any questions I'm happy to answer them yeah so with that being said about the bathrooms is there any plan to just do a check-in with the students so that if the feedback is positive we can pass that on to the community and pass that on to folks so that we can show look here's what we did here's the positive impact and absolutely Chuck up a victory yeah for sure so so in October we randomly selected kids and invited them to come for lunch with leadership um what we noticed is that kids would not come on their own but when we said you've been randomly selected but you can bring a friend we got a ton of kids who were able to give us feedback and they talk to us about all kinds of things including like the parking lot the bathrooms the whole nine um some of them suggested that we just make a like a QR code in the hallway that says you want to meet and come to a leadership meeting so that is our goal for after the long weekend for Thanksgiving is to let some kids like create their own groupings where they can come and provide feedback and we'll have a list of questions one of them will be bathrooms fantastic other questions how many are open and how many are closed at this point um three sets so three boy three girl bathrooms are open at this point the ones that are not open are the 100 200 that are not next to each other they're in separate hallways so three of five general facilities three of four per gender 100 only has girls and 200 only has boys okay yeah all right so we're 75% then yeah all right I'm GNA this isn't directed to you in particular I I really am disappointed it's taking us this long to get these bathrooms open and at this point I mean I don't see why we just don't open and make sure that we have severe and consistent sort of discipline to anyone that has improper behavior in these in these facilities like it just it's unacceptable that we've had these bathrooms closed this long this is now years that this has been going on and this has to get resolved I'm tired of going back to the community when the community comes to me and says what is going on here to tell them you have to talk to the administration they're trying to open it but like this is this is ridiculous let's just open them and be done I have a I have a follow-up question question to that so can you share with us like what was like factored into the decision to open up more bathrooms just so we know moving forward like okay and when are you going to reevaluate next yeah um so there there's two key pieces for me one when I came in and before I came in a lot of people said to me the bathroom is not a space that I want to go to or my kids want to go to because there is Vape all over the place there are tons of kids hanging out um and so a priority for me was make it a safe space where they feel like they can be in there and use the bathroom and keep it moving um which means that we need an adult that can monitor to make sure that there's not large groups of students so one of the things we had to make sure is that there was somebody who could effectively monitor outside those bathrooms we were able to rearrange some of the teacher duties to staff that with teachers for all about one of the periods we are at capacity with what our teacher duties will allow um at this point so that would be one of the challenges with opening an additional bathroom space I think the other thing that I've really committed to is that if the Vape sensor goes off we are touching base with any student that was in the bathroom space and so that means that sometimes the security or the assistant principles or myself are dropping what doing to go check in with those students and that's allowed for students to recognize that there is followup um if the Vape sensor is going off having an additional space it's further around the building would create some additional challenges with Personnel just to be able to get to those spaces is my perception I don't think it is impossible um I think the bigger piece having the monitors outside the bathrooms and because 100 and 200 are not next to each other that's the reason we held off on those is we would need two additional bodies versus opening 300 where we only needed one additional body to monitor the yeah so Kevin Zimmer with a followup so when you have it staffed that means there's somebody there the whole day every period there's a person on duty for those 80 minutes yes right yeah and they're checking in we on Smart pass you can see every student's picture that's created a pass to leave their classroom the monitor is asking the student their name checking that their name aligns with their picture to make sure that students who have made passes are actively going to the bathroom that's closest to their classroom and then making their way back within the number of minutes that the pass allows so the procedures that have been implemented this year have in in my and I don't have data for you have and we can get it from the smart pass significantly reduce the number of students that are that are in the Halls which means that they're in the classroom more often more frequently uh which is obviously the goal because the more often they're in the class the the more they're able to kind of focus on on teaching and learning um Mr bucks I certainly hear what you're saying and I will explore that with with Dr mccan and and and her team to see um the as we talked before about the pros and the cons about about doing each of those and I would provide um the board with that feedback any other questions awesome thank you thank you Dr mccan um agenda item 2.05 is approval of the October Hib reports and 2.06 is approval of the superintendent reports um we uh had a buildings grounds Finance Transportation committee um meeting this evening however that meeting will continue prior to our December uh regular board meeting and a report will be given at that time um to include all the items that were discussed for both meetings um Mr bucks or Mr rente do you have any updates from njsba or bcba yes so um on the 16th of October um the fall meeting took place um I've got a slew I'll try to be as quick as possible uh the NJ SBA uh launched their new website so if you haven't checked it out I highly recommend that you go and check it out it's actually pretty darn good they've done a nice job of overhauling it making information that you need uh to be able to get is on there um they gave an update on how many people were registered for um the event down in Atlantic City at that point looks like 98% of all the schools were represented uh in the state of New Jersey um which was pretty good there's a brand new field service person for us her name is Dr Lori branow um and she replaces um the gentleman who used to be for us which we all who what we all knew and loved um Jesse um she's available for any type of strategic planning or any type of training uh she seemed very nice first time I met her and she was very open to um wanting to help us if there's anything we need from a board standpoint um Angela gave an update on um the legislative pieces there was about five bills last last week so that would have been October 8th that were dropped a lot of them or or put on the floor a lot of them focused year because I have school in the morning and I unfortunately can't attend it just like many other of my fellow classmates so I'm asking for a day off on the upcoming calendar to for me to celebrate
