congratulations welcome to thank you sir okay at this time I'd like to have a 5 minute recess for those people that would like to uh leave and uh we 5 minutes I e e e e e e put that in a minute we're [Music] boring shows you where we were had a okay everybody ready yep all right meeting's back in session okay we are up to the mayor's address so I want to do something a little different this year um I really I wanted to do a bit of a yearin review we had a very busy year here in the burrow and and the governing body our professionals and Engineers have did a wonderful job uh one and some of the highlights that we had last year was number one was really stopping the recycling center t dump here in town uh we were very fortunate by working with Bergen County and members of this governing body environmental commission to really put a stop to that would have been extremely detrimental to the residents here in Oakland the other thing we addressed last year in early spring was our drinking water uh all the pfoa treatments came online in the early spring uh for three Wells on the south side of town and which put Oakland water quality and compliance with uh New Jersey and state standards also we finished the sidewalks on seol at the bottom by right by the lake and we're also happy to announce that we have now refurbished the tennis courts in town and in turn by doing that we now also got pickle ball Courts for the residents and members of the recreation use one of the biggest things that really took place this past year was the amount of Paving that did we did we did 5.7 miles of Paving here in the burough of Oakland and that was based on the Oakland Road program working with public service with the gas line Replacements and Bergen County Road program so all the entrances coming into Oakland from Breakneck 202 Franklin a Lakeside Boulevard monhagen parts of hawaa parts of the Reserve I mean it was an extraord extraordin extraordinary amount of Paving that really took place I mean it was really by be able to coordinate all these three entities together it was really a very successful year and as you just saw we just hired two police officers in the last year and a half due to retirements the Bur of Oakland has hired six new recruits that went into the academy uh Patriots way Bridge uh is truly uh exceeding expectations in the construction uh we started last year uh the superstructure is up um the new water main is in place new gas main is in place the new utilities are in place uh right now they've taken down the utility Bridge uh while the in process doing that temporary water mainten is down and the crews are will be working all winter they were actually there today even though it was in the 20s so this project is moving right along throughout the winter I'm not ready to provide uh new guidance as far as when it's going to be done at this time but Pro hopefully in the next month or two we'll come up with the date of expected completion also we had a by working with the American Legion uh we had a banner program so that we can celebrate our veterans in the burough of Oakland uh next year going down 202 uh we'll be seeing the all blue banners are up we're never going to go back up again we're have nice veterans banners underneath the flags that are going up Route 202 in the downtown business district also we were able to negotiate for the people in The Reserve uh FiOS for the residents uh we're very unique in the fact that the bridge with construction was taking place we engaged Verizon and they agreed to run files throughout the reserve so now the people in The Reserve have a choice and they're not just stuck with one carrier being cable vision uh we completed Bush Plaza this year uh that's really the Cornerstone own of our Redevelopment of the downtown area um there's only one piece that's missing the one pole is still going to be coming out but we're going to be pulling off of that as we start working through the downtown uh we're also there's a new McDonald's that's going to be coming into town it's going to be behind the Walgreens uh that's going to be they they expect to start construction sometime in the spring early spring and probably the biggest piece of legislation that we passed this year was the uh the streetcape ordinance uh we we now have a building block here Oakland As businesses start to refurbish it really codifies the look and feel of the sidewalks the lights the benches the trees so we finally got that building BL Block in place as we see the Oakland drugs start getting refurbished so we can start really tying this burrow together in the downtown area oh and we also had a uh big announcement from the recreation we had several winners here we had champions in the baseball 8U 11U 13u softball Champions 14U and basketb basketball girl 7uu all won their lead championships junior football won their Super Bowl and wrestling had a number one champion and a number one state champion so our rec program is truly outstanding and the work that our volunteers do and working with our children want to talk a little bit about some of the goals that we're looking at for next year uh one of the issues I want to address going into next year is the Van Allen house if you recall at the end of last beginning of last year we had that ugly fence around that we had that removed uh now what we want to do is do some nice simple landcaping and start beautifying that corner at the bottom of Franklin a uh yo Avenue is going to be paved in the spring with the rest of our Paving um and what we're also going to be doing at the bottom you will be seeing sidewalks along the kower side and the seal shopping center side so now we will have walkway walk you know a sidewalk coming all the way down from the high school to be able to connect our sidewalks also I want to talk a little about the old worn out Christmas banners uh they're going to come down we're going to look to replace the banners in the downtown area for the Christmas time and we're also going to be investigating new Christmas decorations in the downtown area and probably the biggest thing that we're going to be looking at now is since we do have the building block in place of the streetcape I'm going to be creating a forward planning committee so that we can start to address the downtown area and not only the downtown area but how we're going to grow the town with a 5year plan the 10-e plan looking forward so this is really going to be an important year for really codifying what the O what Oakland's going to look like and feel like five 10 years down the road and I think that's that's all I have for my report all right at this point motion open public second councilman selani yes councilman slinsky yes councilman T just um coincidentally enough I was reading in the newspaper how how they were getting away from using the newspaper as the official uh Source um is that something that we're going to do going on in the future or is this uh you know it's Matt may have some insight here the uh legislator just passed the law that the governor signed uh kind of extending the current way of doing it for 2 months because there are certain Publications not that we use uh in the normal course uh with the star ler for instance and there some other Regional newspapers that are going to online only versions and that's really the Crux of the matter uh where certain uh newspapers will no longer have a print edition uh and the uh state legislator is trying to figure out a long-term solution for that particular issue there's also legislation I'm not sure if it's still active or if it was passed in the OR it died in the last session uh that would create a state Clearing House for Public Notices uh to avoid using newspapers at all kind of provide an alternate means to do that so yeah the landscape is sort of changing uh right now uh but what you're doing with this resolution is in conformance with the current current law anyway okay thank uh so yes thank you that everybody yep okay all right we have consent agenda 253 to 30 it was included in
