[ APPLAUSE ] DURING THE LAST MEETING FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING, SIGNIFICANT EMPHASIS WAS PLACED ON INTEGRATING STUDENT VOICE INTO DISTRICT POLICIES AND DECISIONS; ESPECIALLY CONCERNING THE WELLNESS PROMOTION POLICY AND SCHOOL START TIMES. THE WELLNESS PROMOTION POLICY INITIALLY ADOPTED IN 2006 IS CURRENTLY UNDER REVISION WITH THE BOARD KEEN ON INCORPORATING FEEDBACK FROM STAKEHOLDERS, PARTICULARLY STUDENTS, WHO ARE VIEWED AS PRIMARY BENEFICIARIES. THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE REVIEW THE POLICY, DISCUSSED THE POLICY, AND INDIVIDUALLY GAVE FEEDBACK VIA A GOOGLE FORM. WE HAD A PRESENTATION FROM Mr. SANCHES AND Mrs. BURKE ON HOUSE BILL 733 WITH THE PROPOSALS TO ADJUST SCHOOL START TIMES ACROSS ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND CHARTER SCHOOLS. WITH A PLANNED IMPLEMENTATION BY JULY 2026. IN EACH SCENARIO, THE SSAC IDENTIFIED UNIQUE CHALLENGES SUCH AS ADJUSTMENTS AND BUS SCHEDULES, IMPACTS ON AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, AND THE NECESSITY FOR STUDENT, PARENT AND STAFF FEEDBACK TO ENSURE MINIMAL DISRUPTION. THE COMMITTEE ALSO GAVE INPUT ON THE STUDENT VOICE PLAYBOOK, A STRATEGIC INITIATIVE AIMED AT ENHANCING PEER-TO-PEER RELATIONSHIPS, ENSURING STUDENTS HAVE SIGNIFICANT ROLES IN SHAPING EDUCATIONAL POLICIES THE PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION SURROUNDING THE PLAYBOOK EMPHASIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RESPECT AMONG STUDENTS, HIGHLIGHTED BY A JAM BOARD ACTIVITY WHERE THE COMMITTEE GAVE SUGGESTIONS ON RECRUITING STUDENTS WHO MAY NOT ALWAYS USE THEIR VOICE. SSAC HELPS PLANS TO HELP THE DEPARTMENTS BY SENDING OUT INFORMATION TO PEERS WHO ADVOCATE. I WANT TO THANK THE DISTRICT FOR MAKING THAT COMMITMENT TO ENSURING THESE STUDENTS CAN GET ACROSS THE FINISH LINE AND I ALSO WANT TO MENTION SOMETHING THAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE DEDICATED HELP OF OUR MULTICULTURAL DEPARTMENT THAT'S REALLY AWESOME. MISS BURKE SHARED INFORMATION WITH ME AND WE HAVE ALMOST 150 PLUS ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING STUDENTS WHO HAVE MET THE GRADUATION READING REQUIREMENT THROUGH THE ALTERNATIVE PATHWAYS. THAT'S SOMETHING THAT CAME DOWN FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA THAT WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GIVE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURSUE. AND WITHOUT THESE PATHWAYS AND THE CHALLENGES THAT COME WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THE LANGUAGE THE TEST IS ADMINISTERED IN, THESE KIDS COULD FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS. THIS DISTRICT IS ENSURING THEY ARE NOT. WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO TO GET THE GRADUATION RATE UP BUT WE ARE UP TO THE TASK AND THANK YOU TO THE DEPARTMENT FOR ASSISTING THESE STUDENTS AND DEDICATED PASSIONATE WORK FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN. FINALLY ECG-2 IS CLOSE TO MY HEART, THE GUATEMALAN CENTER, A NON-PROFIT AND COMMUNITY LEADER, THEY'RE PARTNERING WITH HIGHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THE SCHOOL WE JUST HEARD OUR ANTHEM SANG BEAUTIFULLY FROM ONE OF OUR STUDENTS AND THEY'LL OFFER AFTER CARE, SUMMER, ACADEMIC SUPPORT, TUITION TUTORING ESPECIALLY DURING THE SUMMER SNACKS. WE MAKE SURE WE ARE FEEDING OUR STUDENTS EVEN WHEN THEY'RE NOT IN SCHOOL DURING THE NORMAL SCHOOL YEAR. ADDITIONALLY IT WILL OFFER FINANCIAL LITERACY, HEALTH, WELLNESS, NUTRITION CLASSES FOR PARENTS AS WELL SO IT'S AN ALL AROUND FAMILY PROGRAM. AND I WANT TO JUST, YOU KNOW, ONCE WE VOTE ON THAT AND HOPEFULLY WE ARE ALL SET, IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT PROGRAM. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WE SEE MANY TALENTED INDIVIDUALS IN OUR P2 AGENDA ITEM TONIGHT BUT I WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL SHOUTOUT ON HER APPOINTMENT AS MULTICULTURAL DIRECTOR. BEFORE I STARTED READING, I TRY TO TALK TO THE CHILDREN AND FIND OUT A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THEM AND WE GOT ON THE TOPIC MUCH TEACHING AND SOME OF THE STUDENTS THOUGHT TEACHING WAS ONLY FOR ADULTS. MY POINT WAS YOU CAN TEACH AT ANY AGE. I CHALLENGED THE CLASS TO FIND SOMEONE IN THEIR SPACE WHETHER A YOUNGER BROTHER OR RELATIVE, TO TEACH SOMETHING TO THEM. HOW TO RIDE A BIKE, READ A BOOK, MULTIPLICATION TABLES WHAT HAVE YOU. IF YOU DID THAT, I WOULD COME BACK AND WE WOULD HAVE AN ICE CREAM PARTY. SO WE HAVE SOME PHOTOS OF THAT EVENT. AND SO WE WERE THERE, I THINK TWO OR THREE WEEKS AGO AND SO EVERYBODY, I WENT AROUND THE ROOM AND ASKED EVERYBODY WHO THEY TAUGHT AND WHAT THEY TAUGHT THEM ABOUT. EVERYBODY TOLD ME WHO THEY TAUGHT. IT WAS REALLY COOL. IT WAS ALL WOMEN BECAUSE OF COURSE THIS IS THE WOMEN-- THE ALLIANCE OF WOMEN EXECUTIVED. AND TO HEAR THE STORIES OF WHERE THEY ARE GOING AND THE MONETARY AWARD AS OTHER AWARDS EACH STUDENT RECEIVED A BRAND NEW LAPTOP, SO IT WAS AN AMAZING ORGANIZATION. THEY'RE UP TO HAVING AWARDED 127 SCHOLARSHIPS OVER THE LAST SEVEN YEARS ON APRIL 25, WE LOST ONE OF OUR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, MANY OF US WERE IN ATTENDANCE WHEN HE RECEIVED HIS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA YEARS AGO. TEARS WERE POURING DOWN OUR FACE. AND THIS IS, YOU KNOW, WE KNOW THAT EVERY DAY, EVERY YEAR WE LOSE MORE AND MORE OF OUR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS. SINCE ERICA GAVE MY REPORT, CAN I JUST GO HOME NOW. I'LL TOUCH ON THAT BRIEFLY. WE TALK ABOUT THE MISSION OF THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION, YOUR FOUNDATION AS BEING THE NEXUS BETWEEN THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD OF EDUCATION. I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU A DEEPER DIVE INTO THAT ECOSYSTEM TO SHARE WITH YOU HOW THAT SYSTEM WORKS AND WHAT IT ULTIMATELY MEANS FOR OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE SUPERINTENDENT AND BOARD CHAIR BELIEVE IN YOU AND SUPPORT YOU. I HAD A PHONE CALL FROM THE SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS LAST WEEK WENDY LINK AND SHE SAID WE ARE MOVING OUR OFFICE. WE HAVE SCHOOL SUPPLIES, THREE RING BINDERS, COULD RED APPLE SUPPLY USE THEM? GOT IT. WE'LL TAKE IT. SHE CALLED A FEW HOURS LATER WITH MORE BOXES. THE NEXT DAY SHE SAID WE GOT A WHOLE LOT OF BOXES. GOT IT. WE'LL TAKE IT. THE THIRD DAY SHE SAID WE HAVE SOME LATEX FREE RUBBER GLOVES. I'M THINKING OUR ART TEACHERS CAN USE THEM OR PEOPLE FOR CRAFTS. I SAID GREAT. HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE? SHE SAID WE HAVE 37 PALLETS. AT THAT POINT AT THE ED FOUNDATION, IT'S LIKE BEING ON THE "TITANIC," ICEBERG DEAD AHEAD, WE SWUNG INTO ACTION AND REACHED OUT TO Dr. MIGUEL BENEVENTI WHO SAID OUR MEDICAL ACADEMIES NEED THESE. SO WE TOOK THE ENTIRE DONATION. NOW JUST SUPERINTENDENT BURKE, YOU ARE A NUMBER PERSONS, 37 PALLETS, YOU MIGHT BE THINKING HOW MANY CASES THAT IS 2237 CASES. HOW MANY BOXES WOULD THAT BE? THAT WOULD BE 21,707 BOXES. AND HOW MANY INDIVIDUAL GLOVES? 2,282,400 PAIRS OF LATEX FREE RUBBER GLAFS AT A RETAIL COSTER OF $217,000. NOW WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR OUR DISTRICT. THANKS TO WENDY LINK OUR SUPERVISOR OF THE ELECTIONS, WHO HAD TO GET RID OF THESE. SHE CHANNELED IT THROUGH THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO YOU, SUPERINTENDENT BURKE AND TO OUR 30 PLUS MEDICAL ACADEMIES. OVER THIS WEEK AND THROUGH INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK, THAT ED FOUNDATION STAFF IS IN THE TRUCK OF VISITING SIX SCHOOLS A DAY DROPPING A PALLET OF THESE RUBBER GLOVES. MAYBE IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS AND $5 BILLION BUDGET. 200,000 DONATION MAY NOT SEEM LIKE MUCH BUT AS MY SON IN THE MILITARY WOULD SAY, 200,000 HERE AND 200,000 THERE AND SOON YOU ARE TALKING REAL MONEY. THE POINT OF THIS IS THAT THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY BELIEVES IN YOU AND THEY WANT TO FIND WAYS TO HELP. WE AT THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION HELP THEM CREATIVELY FIND WAYS TO HELP. BOARD MEMBER ERICA, YOU SHARED YOUR EXPERIENCE AT OUR TOPPING OFFICER MOAN. THE NEW FACILITY THAT WE ARE READY TO MOVE INSIDE AND BEGIN THE WORK HERE, PROCTOR CONSTRUCTION TELLS US WE WILL BE MOVING IN PERMANENTLY IN DECEMBER. JANUARY THEIR CONSTRUCTION WILL BE DONE IN MID NOVEMBER. THAT 32,000 SQUARE FOOT FACILITY GIVES US THE ABILITY TO DO THINGS LIKE THIS FOR THE DISTRICT. I HAVE TO TELL YOU, SURVIVOR LINK CALLED ME AGAIN TODAY. SHE SAID WE HAVE SOME MORE THINGS. WE GOT NO ROOM IN THE WAREHOUSE. WE CAN'T FIT ANYTHING ELSE. EVEN THOUGH WE ARE MOVING OUT SIX PALLETS A DAY TO THE VARIOUS MEDICAL ACADEMIES. SHE SAID WE'LL WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK. WE WANT THEM TO GO TO THE STUDENTS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY. WE WANT TO HELP THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. SUPERVISOR LINK, IF YOU ARE WATCHING TONIGHT, THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN OUR CHILDREN. YOUR DONATION, 217,000 DOLLARS WORTH OF GLOVES IS GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR THESE KIDS PREPARING FOR MEDICAL CAREERS. SUPERINTENDENT BURKE, I COME BACK TO YOU. THIS BUSINESS COMMUNITY LOVES YOU. WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT THE TEACHERS THAT PARTNER WITH US AND THANK YOU TO ALL THE TEACHERS. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT BECAUSE WE ARE ON TRACK TO SERVE THAT MANY TEACHERS AGAIN THIS YEAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE CLASSROOM LAST WEEK AT LAKE WORTH HIGH SCHOOL FOR OUR 3DE PROGRAM. WE HAD THE CASE ABOUT DELTA AND IT WAS ABOUT THE CREATIVITY ANDIN' INNOVATION, WHAT IS THE GATE EXPERIENCE LIKE FOR THESE YOUNG PEOPLE I. WAS REALLY NEAT TO BE HANDS ON WITH THEM AND SEE THEIR DESIGNS FOR DELTA BECAUSE THEY WILL GO IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS IN FRONT OF THE JUDGES AND BE JUDGED ON THAT BUT WE HAD A SER OPPONENT FOR OUR SECOND GRADUATING CLASS AT LAKE WORTH HIGH SCHOOL OF THE 3D STUDENTS AND AGAIN, THE VALEDICTORIAN IS A 3DE STUDENT. HATS OFF TO MANUEL JOSE AND THREE OTHER STUDENTS IN THE TOP 10. THEY DIDN'T JUST DO IT WITH 3D E. THEY'RE PART OF PATH TO COLLEGE AND TAKE STOCK THIS CHILDREN SO I JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT WE HAVE AN AMAZING COLLABORATING COMMUNITY AROUND OUR STUDENTS AND SHOUT OUT TO MARIA AND HENRY WHO RECEIVED THE STYLES NICKOL SON SCHOLARSHIPS THAT NIGHT AS WELL. WE DO HAVE A NEW MOU FOR 3D-E COMING UP. AND YES, IT'S THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, BUT WE STILL HAVE FOUR MORE CAREER EXPLORATION FAIRS HAPPENING AT LAKE PARK ELEMENTARY THIS FRIDAY, ROLLING GROWN HIGHLAND AND EGRET LAKE. IF ANYBODY WANTS, WE HAVE MORE SPOTS. IF YOU WANT TO COME TO HIGHLAND AND SHARE YOUR CAREER WITH THOSE STUDENTS. AND I DO WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE JUST TO RECOGNIZE OUR OUTSTANDING TEAM AT JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT. THEY'RE LED BY KATIE THOMPSON, WHICH MANY OF YOU KNOW, AND WE DO HAVE ERICA, ASHLEY, KAITLYN AND LAUREN, WHO ARE PART OF THAT PROGRAM'S TEAM THAT BRING THE PROGRAMS TO YOU EVERY DAY. AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, YOU HEARD LAST MONTH ABOUT OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH SURFACE 71 FOR THE BEACH CLEANUP. LIKE MR. FERGUSON SAID, MANY OF THE STUDENTS WERE AT PALM BEACH LAKES HIGH SCHOOL PARTICIPATED AND MANY DID COME OUT TO THE CLEANUP WITH KEEP PALM BEACH COUNTY BEAUTIFUL AND THE BEACH BUCKET FOUNDATION THANKS TO THE MARINE INDUSTRIES GIVES BACK. THANK YOU ALL FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO AND I WILL SEE YOU NEXT MONTH MONTH THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME SHARE. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU Ms. BARTO. GORDON LONG LONG HOFER. >> I'M GOING TO HAVE TO WING IT. PRESIDENT OF THE PALM BEACH COUNTY CLASSROOM TEACHERS ASSOCIATION. CHAIR BRILL, VICE CHAIR McQUINN, SUPERINTENDENT BURKE, REST OF THE BOARD MEMBERS, HONORED GUESTS. STAFF, TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK AND TEACHERS ARE BUSY ALL THE TIME, THEY DO TONS OF THINGS, THEY GET UP EVERY DAY, HEAD TO THE CLASSROOMS REGARDLESS OF THE WEIGHT OF THEIR LIVES. THEY LEAD THEIR STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE, THEY GUIDE THEM, EQUIP THEM FOR SUCCESS RIGHT AWAY AS WELL AS SUCCESSES IN THE FUTURE. I'M GOING TO JUST TAKE THIS MOMENT TO THANK ALL OF MY COLLEAGUES WHO WERE IN THE CLASSROOM, STILL EACH AND EVERY DAY DOING THEIR WORK FOR EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO TO MAKE THIS DISTRICT FUNCTION, TO DRIVE OUR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND TO BRING US THE ACCOLADES THAT WE HAVE AND OF COURSE WE HAVE SEEN MANY OF THOSE ACCOLADES TONIGHT, INCLUSIVE OBVIOUSLY OF THE BOYS SOCCER TEAM FROM BOCA RATON HIGH TO THE YOUNG LADY WHO SUNG OUR NATIONAL AN THEM. A WONDERFUL RENDITION AND SHOWING A BEAUTIFUL, PURE VOICE. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ACKNOWLEDGE 9 APPRECIATION THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU SHOW THROUGH THE WORK THAT YOU DO AS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, THE ACTIVITIES THAT YOU ENGAGE IN, THE PROMOTION THAT YOU HAVE FOR EVERYTHING EDUCATION BUT ESPECIALLY AS YOU ARE OUT THERE IN SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES TALKING ABOUT THE THINGS THAT GET DONE, AND THEN THE FURTHER WORK, MUCH OF WHAT HAS GONE ON HERE TONIGHT WITH A COUPLE OF RECOGNITIONS WITH SPECIFIC TEACHERS AND GUIDANCE COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR. IT IS A PLEASURE TO BE HERE AND TO WORK ON BEHALF OF TEACHERS AS THEIR ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT I THANK YOU FOR THE APPRECIATION YOU SHOW BY THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE. IT IS DULY NOTED AND IT CONTRIBUTES TO A MUCH BETTER EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAN WE FIND IN SO MANY OTHER PLACES IN FLORIDA. PLEASE TAKE THAT AS MY APPRECIATION TO YOU FOR APPRECIATING TEACHERS FOR WHAT THEY DO EACH AND EVERY DAY. THANK YOU AND HAVE A GOOD EVENING. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU, Mr. LONGHOFER. Dr. DREB RA ROBINSON, COALITION FOR BLACK STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. >> GOOD EVENING. SOY FIRST-- SO FIRST, I WANT TO THANK BRUCE AS WELL. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES WE HAD TO GO INTO THE WEEDS, AND MY FAVORITE QUESTION FROM Mr. HARRIS WAS, DO YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE A COMMA OR SEMICOLON? I DON'T KNOW. I DO MATH AND SCIENCE. ANYWAY, GOOD EVENING. I'M Dr. DEBORAH ROBINSON, CHAIR OF THE COALITION FOR BLACK STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. I AM HERE THIS EVENING TO EXPRESS THE SENTIMENTS OF THE COALITION AND OUR BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PALM BEACH COUNTY'S LACK OF ATTENTION TO THE NEEDS OF BLACK CHILDREN. DECADES AGO THE COALITION TOOK THE POSITION THAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT MAY BE WANTED TO EDUCATE BLACK CHILDREN BUT DIDN'T KNOW HOW. THAT NO LONGER HOLDS WATER. YOU HAVE RECEIVED LOTS OF INPUT ON THIS SUBJECT, SO WE ARE LEFT THINKING THAT YOU JUST DON'T WANT TO. WHEN YOU ARE SHAKING HANDS AT GRADUATION IN THESE UPCOMING WEEKS, I WANT YOU TO LOOK IN THEIR EYES. THIS IS WHY I STOPPED GOING TO GRADUATIONS. SOME OF THE EYES HAVE PROMISE OF GREAT THINGS TO COME, BUT MANY DO NOT. THOSE DULL EYES, THOSE ARE THE CONCORDANT SCORE KIDS THE REQUIRED ELA S.A.T. SCORE FOR GRADUATION IS 480 BUT THE AVERAGE ACCEPTED AT F.A.U. IS 565, FSU IS 656. GRAD WAITION FOR S.A.T. GRADUATION IS 420 BUT THE AVERAGE ACCEPTED AT FAU IS 545, FSU IS 635. AND FISCAL YEAR 23, 43.2% OF BLACK GRADUATES USED CONCORDANT SCORES. YOU DIDN'T GET THEM READY FOR THE FUTURE. DO YOU CARE? THE COALITION HAS BEEN HAVING DATA CHATS, REAMS AND REAMS OF DATA INCLUDING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, DISCIPLINE, ACCELERATION AND OTHER CATEGORIES. THE COALITION WILL BE CREATING AND PUBLISHING A REPORT CARD ON THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TO START THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS IN WHICH WE CAN DO BETTER. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS NO REAL ADVOCACY OR YOU JUST DON'T CARE. IT APPEARS THAT THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM, DESPITE ITS LOFT EMISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS IS REALLY JUST FINE WITH MAINTAINING THE RACE-BASED CASTE SYSTEM THAT EXISTS IN THIS COUNTRY AND THEN HIDE BEHIND THE STATE'S IDEOLOGY PROMOTING RULES AND LAWS. IS IT YOUR IDEOLOGY IN? AND THE SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN DIRECTED TO JUST WORK WITH THE BUBBLE KIDS, TO OPTIMIZE THE SCHOOL GRADE. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER STUDENTS? THE HIGH PERFORMERS, THE UNDER ACHIEVERS? WHAT ABOUT THEM? DO YOU CARE? YOU KNOW BETTER. I SAT ON THE DAIS WITH MANY OF YOU AND PARTICIPATED IN MANY CONVERSATIONS ON HOW WE WOULD MAKE THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT BETTER BUT EDUCATING ALL STUDENTS, EACH STUDENT. BUT AT THE INSTRUCTIONAL REVIEW PRESENTATION IT APPEARS UNDERACHIEVEMENT OF BLACK CHILDREN HAS BEEN NORMALIZED. YOU HAVE PHILOSOPHICALLY AND FUNCTIONALLY SLID BACKWARDS. DO YOU CARE? DO YOU REALIZE HOW COMPUTER-BASED EDUCATION IS IN 2024? YET WE HAVE NOT FOUND-- I HAVE NOT FOUND A SCHOOL THAT ALLOWS CHILDREN TO TAKE THEIR DEVICES HOME TO COMPLETE THEIR HOME WORK. WE USED TO STRATEGIZE HOW TO TACKLE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE. DO YOU? NOT ON YOUTUBE ANYWAY. WE WANT TO BELIEVE IN YOU. AND YOU WANT US TO VOTE FOR THAT HALF PENNY AGAIN. BUT IT'S HARD. PLEASE ADDRESS THE DIGITAL DIVIDE. THIS IS LOW HANGING FRUIT. AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO PRESENTING OUR REPORT CARD ON YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE. BUT THE REAL QUESTION IS HOW DO YOU JUDGE YOURSELF? THANK YOU. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU DR. ROBINSON INSON. I ON LIKE TO WELCOME ANY PUBLIC SPEAKERS WHO ARE JOINING US TODAY. PLEASE ADDRESS THE SCHOOL BOARD AS A COLLECTIVE BODY AND DO NOT ADDRESS INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBERS OR STAFF MEMBERS DIRECTLY. OUR POLICY PROVIDES THAT WE DO NOT RESPOND TO OR ENGAGE WITH OUR SPEAKERS; HOWEVER, WE DO MAKE NOTE OF YOUR ISSUES AND WE FOLLOW UP WITH DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION REGARDING THEM. AS A REMINDER, PUBLIC COMMENTS MUST RELATE TO THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THE AGENDA ITEM WHICH THE SPEAKER HAS REQUESTED TO ADDRESS. PURSUANT TO SCHOOL BOARD POLICY, SPEAKERS WHOSE COMMENTS DO NOT RELATE TO THE TOPIC THAT THE SPEAKER INDICATED OR WHOSE COMMENTS DISRUPT OR INTERFERE WITH THE ORDER OF THE MEETING MAY BE SUBJECT TO REMOVAL FROM THE MEETING OR HAVING THE MICROPHONE TURNED OFF AND FORFEITING THE RIGHT TO SPEAK AT THE REMAINDER OF TODAY'S MEETING. THANK YOU FOR AGAIN FOR YOUR ATTENDANCE HERE AT THE BOARD MEETING. IT'S TRULY APPRECIATED. AFOR AGENDA ITEM SPEAKERS, YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES TO ADDRESS THE BOARD IN ACCORDANCE WITH SCHOOL BOARD POLICY. THE MICROPHONE WILL BE TURNED OFF WHEN THE TIME LIMIT HAS BEEN REACHED. WHEN YOU SPEAK, PLEASE STATE YOUR NAME FOR THE RECORD. WE ALSO REQUEST THAT YOU PROVIDE YOUR ADDRESS, SCHOOL DISTRICT NUMBER OR CITY OF RESIDENCE. AND WITH THAT, I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE IF I MISPRONOUNCE ANYBODY'S NAME. LY BEGIN TO CALL UP THE SPEAKERS. I'LL CALL YOU TWO AT A TYPE. DONALD PIERSON AND STEVEN ROCHA. GOOD EVENING, DONE PIERSON. STARTING MY 43rd YEAR IN THIS COUNTY. PALM BEACH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL. AND I AM WEST PALM BEACH RESIDENT AGAIN, EVERY YEAR, I TRY TO SPEAK ON THINGS THAT MATTER AND WHAT IS COMING UP ON PIS. YOU ARE GOING TO GET A LIST OF NON-REAPPOINTMENTS. THE LIST OF NAMES THAT PRINCIPALS GIVE YOU I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THEY'RE VETTED VERY WELL BECAUSE THERE ARE THINGS THAT YOU DON'T KNOW. EXAMPLE. I'LL GIVE YOU-- SO YOU HAVE A TEACHER THAT HAS BEEN TEACHING 20 PLUS YEARS AND HE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY TROUBLE, GOT SOME ACCOLADES, GOT SOME AWARDS. THEN GETS TO A NEW SCHOOL AND A CHAMPION BOXER AND STUDENTS SAY HEY, WILL YOU TEACH TO US BOX. HE SAID YEAH, CAN I DO THAT. SO DURING CLASS,-- NOT DURING CLASS, DURING LURN THEY COME TO HIS CLASSROOM AND HE SHOWS THEM THIS THINGS AND PEOPLE SAY THAT MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD IDEA. SO THE PRINCIPAL SAYS HEY, DON'T DO THAT. AND THAT'S FINE. I'M SORRY. I WON'T DO THAT. BUT HE NOTICES THAT A LOT OF THOSE KIDS THAT HE TOOK INTEREST IN, THEY WORK HARD AND THEIR GRADES HAD BEEN BOOSTED SO THAT'S A GOOD THING. BUT SOME PEOPLE, ARE INTERESTED, HEY, THE TEACHER HAD BOXING IN HIS CLASS. HE DOESN'T HAVE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT SKILLS. AN OVER ZEALOUS A.P. SAYS HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT, HAVE YOU TO GO TO CHAMPS. HE GOES TO CHAMPS BUT THAT WAS DONE IN PRESCHOOL. SO THE PERCEIVED THOUGHT OF HOW THIS TEACHER IS HAS ALREADY BEEN SET. SO, YOU KNOW, JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE POWER TO DO SOMETHING DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD DO IT. AND NOW THE TEACHER GETS CALLED IN BY THE PRINCIPAL AND THE PRINCIPAL SAYS HEY, THIS ISN'T A MEETING THAT IS GOING TO BE PUNITIVE; HOWEVER, I'M GOING TO DECIDE IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE NON-REAPPOINTED ON THIS OR NOT. THAT IS PUNITIVE. AND WHAT IS SAID TO THE PRINCIPAL IS HEY, YOU HAVE NEVER STEPPED ONE MINUTE IN THE CLASS. YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THE CLASS. YOU ARE JUST TAKING WHAT AN A.P. HAS SAID. DON'T YOU VET THAT, TRUST BUT VERIFY? WELL, THAT A.P. IS A PROFESSIONAL. WELL SO IS THE GENTLEMAN. HE IS A PROFESSIONAL ALSO. BUT I THOUGHT THAT, THANK GOD YOU FOUND THIS A.P. BECAUSE IN ONE YEAR THEY FIGURED OUT THAT HE IS A BAD TEACHER, AND HE IS NON-REAPPOINTED BUT HERE IS THE THING THAT REALLY GETS UNDER YOUR SKIN. HE HAS GIVEN A BIRTHDAY CARD FROM THE PRINCIPAL THAT SAYS HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HOPE YOU HAVE AN AWESOME DAY. TWO HOURS LATER HE GETS HIS NON-REAPPOINTMENT. THAT, IF YOU CONDONE THAT, OR YOU ARE CORRECT IT. THANK YOU. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU, STEVEN ROCHA. ARE YOU HERE? MAX FENNING. OKAY, THAT'S THE END OF OUR AGENDA ITEM SPEAKERS. BOARD MEMBERS. WE NEED TO CHANGE THE TRAJECTORY WHEN IT COMES TO THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR SHORTAGE. THE MENTAL HEALTH OF THE WHOLE SCHOOL UNIT IS CONNECTED AND THE SCHOOL COUNSELORS ARE THE HEART BEAT OF THE SCHOOL. PART 4. I WANT TO SEND A VIRTUAL HUG AND WISH EVERY TEACHER HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK. I AM HAPPY TO REPORT MY YOUNGEST OUT OF THREE CHILDREN WILL BE GRADUATING HSES THIS MONTH. I'M PROUD OF YOU JOSIAH. HE HAS BEEN DOING FLORIDA VIRTUAL SCHOOL FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS. I ALSO HOME SCHOOLED ALL THREE OF MY CHILDREN IN PALM BEACH COUNTY FOR A COMBINED YEAR TOTAL OF 13 YEARS. I AM THANKFUL FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES THAT MY FAMILY HAS BEEN AFFORDED. THE PALM BEACH SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS DONE MANY THINGS RIGHT. HOWEVER, HAVING WORKED AS A LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL COUNSELOR IN AN ELEMENTARY TITLE 12 SCHOOL FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. I HAVE OBSERVED A GREAT NEED. I BELIEVE THE BALL HAS BEEN DROPPED WHEN IT COMES TO THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR SHORTAGE AND LACK OF PREVENTION AND REMEDIES TO FILL THE NEEDS AND AVOID THEM THERE HAVE BEEN MANY SPECIAL MOMENTS WORK IS AS A SCHOOL COUNSELOR. LAST YEAR I HAD A KINDERGARTENER THAT EMIGRATED FROM CUBA. HE WAS VERY SHY AND WOULDN'T TALK TO ME EVEN THOUGH I SPOKE SPANISH. THIS YEAR, HOWEVER, HE OPENED UP FOR THE FIRST TIME HE CAME TO MY ROOM ONE DAY AND HANDED ME THIS ARTWORK RIGHT HERE THAT HE HAD MADE. HE ASKED ME TO WRITE THE WORDS "COME TO GUIDANCE" ON IT. I THANKED HIM AND ASKED HIM IF COMING TO GUIDANCE HAD HELPED HIM. HE REPLIED IN SPANISH, YES, VERY MUCH. HE WANTED ME TO PUT IT ON THE DOOR OF THE CLASSROOM SO THAT EVERY STUDENT WOULD COME TO GUIDANCE. THIS TAUGHT ME A GREAT LESSON AND THAT IS TO NOT OVERLOOK THE STUDENTS WHO DON'T SPEAK THE LANGUAGE. SOME HAVE SUFFERED SO MUCH ALL RIGHT IMMIGRATING HERE AND WILL CONTINUE TO SUFFER IF GUIDANCE IS NOT BEING TAUGHT TO THEM. DON'T THINK THAT THESE STUDENTS ARE NOT ALERT OR LISTENING IN CLASS, THEY ARE. THE LANGUAGE AND CARE IS UNIVERSAL AND HAS NO LANGUAGE BARRIERS. WE ARE SURROUNDED BY A GREAT CROWD OF WITNESSES. KEEP BEING THE ROLE MODEL THAT THESE STUDENTS NEED. THANK YOU. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU. JANE TIERNEY AND JACQUELINE CALAWAY. >> GOOD EVENING, I'M JACQUELINE CALLOWAY WITH THE COALITION FOR BLACK STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND I LIVE IN WELLINGTON, FLORIDA. I AM HERE TO SPEAK ON THINGS PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE. , 268 YEARS AGO, PHYLLIS WHEATLEY WAS BORN IN WEST AFRICA. SHE WAS NAMED AFTER THE SLAVESHIP THAT BROUGHT HER TO THE SHORES OF BOSTON AT ABOUT THE AGE OF 7. THIS BRILLIANT LITTLE GIRL WOULD LATER BECOME THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN AUTHOR TO PUBLISH A BOOK OF POETRY. IF ALIVE TODAY, PHYLLIS SURELY HAVE BEEN SOUGHT AFTER BY IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS. I WOULD LIKE TO THINK SHE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN TO ATTEND AN HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY. IN HER 1772 POEM ENTITLED ON SLAVERY AND TYRANNY, PHYLLIS WHEATLEY CHASTISED THOSE WHO LAUDED HER ACUMEN BUT SILENCE ON HER ENSLAVEMENT. SHOULD YOU MY LORD WONDER FROM WHENCE MY LOVE OF FREEDOM SPRUNG, WHENCE BELOW THESE WISHES OF THE COMMON GOOD, BEST UNDERSTOOD. 237 YEARS AFTER PHYLLIS WHEATLEY'S DEATH, ANOTHER YOUNG BRILLIANT AFRICAN-AMERICAN FEMALE POET DID WHAT PHYLLIS WOULD HAVE NEVER DREAMED POSSIBLE. AMANDA GORMAN, THEN THE NATIONAL YOUTH POET LAUREATE RECITED TO THE NATION HER POEM "THE HILL WE CLIMB. " THERE WERE THOSE WHO SOUGHT TO REMOVE HER POEM OUT OF FLORIDA'S SCHOOLS OUT OF THEIR IGNORANCE OF ARTISTIC RELEVANCE. AMANDA WROTE THIS: THE HILL WE CLIMB IF ONLY WE DARE, IT'S BECAUSE BEING AMERICAN IS MORE THAN A PRIDE WE INHERIT. IT'S THE PAST WE STEP INTO AND HOW WE REPAIR IT. CONFRONTING AND REPAIRING DISTORTIONS IN HOW THE BLACK EXPERIENCE IS TAUGHT IN OUR SCHOOLS THE HILL THAT THE COALITION HAS CHOSEN TO CLIMB BECAUSE AS PHYLLIS WHEATLEY SURPRISED THE TRUTH IS THAT FROM WHENCE FLOWS THE WISHES OF THE COMMON GOOD. PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE, EACH HAS ITS OWN TIME, A PRELUDE AND A LEGACY, AS ARE PHYLLIS, AMANDA AND YOUNG BLACK ACHIEVERS YET TO BE. WILL THESE TIMES BE PROTECTED WITH VORACITY AND COURAGE AND COURAGE OR WILL THEY BE MIRED IN FALSEHOOD AND HYPOCRISY. IF IT IS THE LATTER, THEN TRUTH BECOMES UNATTAINABLE. PHYLLIS' COMMON GOOD BECOMES COMMON I GO NRNS INSTEAD. AMANDA'S HILL COLLAPSES AS IF BUILT ON SAND AND THOSE WHO COULD BE WON'T BE. ARE THESE THINGS INEVITABLE? IF THOSE OF YOU ON THE DAIS ANSWER NO, THEN YOU MUST STOP AND ASK YOURSELF THIS: WHAT IS IT THAT IS HINDERING OUR SCHOOLS FROM TEACHING CHILDREN UNADULTERATED BLACK FACTS NOT FICTION. THANK YOU. >> GOOD EVENING EVERYBODY. MY NAME IS JANE TIERNEY. I LIVE IN TEQUETSA AND I'M SPEAKING ON BLACK FACTS NOT FICTION. THE PURPOSES OF THE SUPPORTERS OF BLACK FACTS NOT FICTION INITIATIVE IS TO PRESENT ACCURATE COMPREHENSIVE FACTS ABOUT BLACK HISTORY, THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF BLACK INDIVIDUALS, THE UNITED STATES SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH THEY OCCURRED. OUR PURPOSES INCLUDE SHOWING TEACHERS THAT THEY CAN AND SHOULD TEACH BLACK FACTS WITHOUT PUTTING THEIR JOBS IN JEOPARDY AND JUST BRAIN TEACHING BLACK FACTS HERE. EACH MONTH AS I RESEARCH THE TOPICS, I AM LEARNING SO MUCH NEW FASCINATING INFORMATION AND IT MAKES ME NOT ONLY INTERESTED BUT VERY EMBARRASSED HOW LITTLE I KNOW ABOUT THIS AND VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT I WAS NEVER TAUGHT ANY OF THIS INFORMATION IN SCHOOL FOR ME BEING PART OF THIS PROJECT IS REMEDIAL EDUCATION. IN THE PAST MONTHS, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING TO FIND A BIGGER SPLASH, FRED RIG DOUGLAS, SOME MAJOR FIGURE THAT ACTUALLY EVERYBODY KNOWS. THIS MONTH, I WANT TO BRING OUT SOME FACTS ABOUT SOME REALLY OVERLOOKED PEOPLE. AND I FOUND THIS AMAZING BOOK, WHICH EVERY TEACHER SHOULD HAVE, WHICH IS BLACK FIRST. AND IT INCLUDES GROUNDBREAKING EVENTS IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY. AND I'LL WARN YOU, THERE ARE 4,000 EVENTS AND PEOPLE RECORDED IN HERE. SO I'M GOING TO BE AT THESE MEETINGS FOR A LONG TIME. I'M NOT GOING TO RUN OUT OF MATERIAL. THE PEOPLE I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS WEEK WERE INVOLVED IN AMERICAN EXPLORATION AND ALSO IN MIDDLE EAST PEACE TALKS THE FIRST ONE IN 1804, WAS AN ENSLAVED MAN NAMED YORK. AND HE WAS SAID TO BE A KEY MEMBER OF THE LEWIS AND CLARK EXPE DIS. HE ACTUALLY HAD A PRESENCE THAT WAS VERY ADMIRED BY THE NATIVE AMERICANS AND HE WAS ABLE TO NEGOTIATE WITH THEM, HIS DIPLOMATIC SKILLS WERE STRONG. AND HE HELPED THE EXPEDITION GET THROUGH SOME VERY DIFFICULT SITUATIONS ANOTHER IS IN 1909, MATTHEW ALEK ANDER HENSON WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO REACH THE NORTH POLE OF WHICH HE CO-DISCOVERED WITH ROBERT PERRY. HE WAS AN EXPERIENCED SEAMAN. HE WAS A LAND SURVEYOR AND HE HAD WORKED WITH PERRY ON QUITE A FEW EXPEDITIONS. THEY TRIED SEVEN TIMES TO GET TO THE NORTH POLE AND SUCCEEDED ON THE 7th TRY. HENSON WAS THE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY BLAZED THE TRAIL AND REACHED THE POLE FIRST. >> THANK YOU. >> Chair Brill: DEBORAH WALKER AND SHANE SELESKY. >> GOOD EVENING. DEBORAH WALKER. I AM A RESIDENT OF DELRAY BEACH. I'M A PRODUCT OF THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM AND I HAVE A MOM THAT TAUGHT SCHOOL IN PALM BEACH COUNTY FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS. TONIGHT #BLACK FACTS NOT FICTION I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT ALFRED ZACH STRONG, A LONG TIME RESIDENT OF DELRAY BEACH, RESPECTED BUSINESSMAN, ACTIVE CIVIC PARTICIPANT AND A CHURCH LEADER WHO KNEW RIGHT FROM WRONG AND SOUGHT FAIRNESS AND UNIVERSE ACCESS TO PUBLIC PLACES AND FACILITIES, ESPECIALLY DELRAY'S PUBLIC BEACH. HIS TIRELESS EFFORTS WITH OTHERS TO SECURE A FULL MEASURE OF CIVIL RIGHTS, ANT OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL HAVE HELPED MAKE DELRAY A RICHER OND MORE VIBRANT PLACE TO LIVE, WORK AND PLAY. THE PUBLIC BEACH IS ONE OF DELRAY'S MOST RENOWNED ASSETS WITH PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ENJOYING ITS BROAD VISTAS AND NATURAL BEAUTY. TRUE TO THE PRINCIPLES OF ALFRED ZACH STRONG FOUGHT FOR MANY YEARS THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS AND VISITORS CONTINUE TO ENJOY THE GREAT PUBLIC SPACE, FREE OF COST AND OPEN TO EVERYONE. EFFORTS OF THIS MAGNITUDE ALSO REQUIRE ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT FROM OTHERS. THE PERM COMMITMENT AND THE GOOD OFFICES OF A GROUP OF RESIDENTS AND TAXPAYERS; NAMELY O.F. YOUNGBLOOD, LeROY BANE, LEE YOUNGBLOOD, ATTORNEY I.C. SMITH, JOSEPH BALDWIN, ATTORNEY RODRIGUEZ AND OTHERS WHO WHOSE NAMES WE MAY NEVER KNOW PLAYED AN INTEGRAL PART IN THE ROLE OF THIS BEACH BEING INTEGRATED IN DELRAY. #BLACK FACTS NOT FICTION. GLICK THANK YOU. SHANE, ARE YOU HERE. DONALD PERSON, SERGE. >> GOOD EVENING, I'M A RESIDENT OF PALM BEACH SCHOOL COUNTY TEACHING IN PALM BEACH HIGH SCHOOL MADS MAT IX-- MATHEMATICS GRADES 9-12 AND STANDING HERE AND WITNESSING I WAS FALSELY ACCUSED BY THE PRINCIPAL AND HIS A.P. I RECEIVED TWO WRITTEN DIRECTIVES WHOSE INSTRUCTION WERE EXAGGERATED, TWISTED AND FALSE. I WROTE TWO REBUTTAL LETTERS AND REQUESTED PRINCIPALS TO CLARIFY TO ME WHAT WAS IGNORED AND SILENCED EVERY TIME. ALL I ASK, JUST CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK INFORMATION THEY PUT IT IN THE WRITTEN DIRECTIVES AND INVESTIGATE IT. EVERY TIME I WAS IGNORED AND I'M VERY DISRESPECTED. I WAS KNOCKED DOWN AFTER SCHOOL BY A STUDENT WRITING AN ELECTRICAL SCOOTER. I WAS LEFT UNCONSCIOUS ON THE FLOOR. I ASKED THE PRINCIPAL TO INVESTIGATE THIS INCIDENT. BUT MAKE SURE I HAVE SAFETY ENVIRONMENT TO WORK. HE NEVER GET BACK TO ME. ANOTHER DAY I WAS THREATENED BY A STUDENT WHO RECEIVED A GRADE LOWER THAN EXPECTED AND HE LIVES IN THE SAME SUBDIVISION AS ME AND HE THREATENED ME. I APPROACHED THE A. PSM AND ASKED FOR HELP AND NEVER RECEIVED IT. I PREPARED FOR YOU HERE SEVEN PACKAGES THAT LETTERS, DOCUMENTARY LETTERS FROM THE STUDENTS AND PARENTS. THEY WITNESS BRUTAL AND VERY HOSTILE BEHAVIOR OF TEACHER IN ONE OF MY PERIODS WHEN I'M TEACHING IN THE CLASSROOM THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE DEM YEAR AND NOT PRINCIPALS NEVER ADDRESSED THAT IN THE MORNING PRINCIPAL WISHED ME VERY SPECIAL AND AWESOME DAY A FEW HOURS LATER HE CALLED ME IN HIS OFFICE AND TOLD ME THAT I'M BAD TEACHER AND HE WILL NOT RECOMMEND ME FOR NEXT YEAR. YOU TELL ME, DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER WAY MORE SOPHISTICATED TO INSULT SOMEONE THAN THIS? YES, I AM ASKING TO INTERVENE ON MY BEHALF AND THEN ALL THE PEOPLE STANDING TOGETHER, OUR GOVERNMENT, OUR PRESIDENT AND COUNTRY STAND FOR UKRAINIAN PEOPLE. SO I WAS-- I WAS LEFT WITHOUT INCOME. I AM BACKGROUND UKRAINIAN WITHOUT ANY POSSIBILITY TO HELP MY MOM AND MY RELATIVES LIVING DOWN THERE IN UKRAINE. SO, PLEASE ADDRESS THIS SOMEHOW AND STOP IT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THIS LETTER YOU CAN PICK UP AND PASS IT TO THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU. >> AGAIN, DON PIERSON PALM BEACH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL. I KNOW I TALK PASSIONATELY ABOUT SITUATIONS, THERE IS A LOT THAT YOU DON'T SEE YOU DON'T SEE THAT THERE IS A TEACHER JUST TWO DAYS BEFORE VOLUNTARY TRANSFER WAS GIVEN A UMP N. AND I THINK SOME OF THESE THINGS ARE DONE WITH MALICE, I GUESS. AND THAT'S WHAT I WOULD LIKE YOU TO SEE. I COME UP HERE AND I'M PASSIONATE AND BECAUSE IT'S PERSONNEL, I TALK ABOUT THAT BECAUSE YOU ARE THE GATEKEEPERS. AND JUST SOMETHING SO YOU KNOW, I PICK MY WIFE UP FROM THE AIRPORT TODAY. HER UNCLE PASSED AWAY IN MASSACHUSETTS. I SAID I'LL GO. BUT I MARRIED UP. SHE KNOWS WHAT I DO AND I TRY TO HELP PEOPLE. AND SHE SAID NO, STAY BECAUSE YOU NEED TO SPEAK FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW OR ARE AFRAID TO SPEAK. THAT'S WHY I DO IT. IT DOESN'T AFFECT ME. AND AS I TOLD THE PRINCIPAL AND THE A.P., IT DOESN'T AFFECT HIS SALARY, DOESN'T AFFECT MINE. BUT JUST BECAUSE SOMEBODY CAN SAY YOU WILL NOT HAVE A SALARY NEXT YEAR DOESN'T MEAN THEY SHOULD DO IT SO DO WE REALLY AFFIRM AND INSPIRE TEACHERS? OR DO WE WORK OR THINK OUR WORK IS BENEFICIAL BECAUSE I FOUND SOMETHING WRONG. I SAID TO THE A.P. THANK GOD OUR DISTRICT FOUND YOU BECAUSE YOU FOUND OUT IN ONE SHORT YEAR WHAT 20 PLUS YEARS OF ADMINISTRATORS COOPERATE FIND OUT ABOUT SERGE. YOU FOUND OUT HE WAS A BAD TEACHER AND YOU CAN SAY THAT AND SOMEBODY WHO HAS NEVER WALKED IN THE CLASSROOM CAN SAY YOU ARE NON-REAPPOINTED. HAVE A GOOD DAY. NOW THAT, SOME PEOPLE CAN GIVE A BIRTHDAY WISH TO EVERYBODY. BUT YOU KNOW AND I TALKED TO SOME OF YOU, MAYBE IT WAS JUST AN OVERSIGHT. DIFFICULT NOT FIND ANYBODY ANYBODY ELSE AT OUR SCHOOL THAT GOT A BIRTHDAY WISH SO I'M THINKING MY PERSONAL THOUGHT IS, IF YOU WANT TO SHOW SOMEBODY WHO IS BOSS, SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THEM TODAY AND THEN TWO HOURS LATER SAY HEY, YOU ARE NOT REAPPOINTED AND THAT'S WHY I SAY, DO WE CONDONE THAT OR DO WE CORRECT IT? AND THE OTHER THING THAT I OVER THE YEARS I HAVE SEEN, TIMES WE HAVE SOMEONE COME IN IN ONE YEAR AND THEN THEY GET RID OF PEOPLE AND THEN THEY LEAVE THE SCHOOL. WE'VE GOT TO TAKE CARE OF OUR PEOPLE AND GUYS, IT'S JUST BEING PART, JUST BEING HUMAN SO THAT'S WHY I TALK FOR OTHER PEOPLE. THANK YOU. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU. TYLER YARNELL AND LORI LANDIS. >> GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS TYLER YARNELL BOYNTON BEACH RESIDENT HERE TO SPEAK ON MY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION. SO STARS LACROSSE, WHAT WE LIKE TO DO IS PROVIDE ACADEMIC ABDULLAH CROSS PROGRAMMING TO-- AND LACROSSE PROGRAMMING WITH LA CROSS WE WOULD BE PROVIDING LACROSSE STICKS, EQUIPMENT, COACHES AND FIELD SPACE TO THE STUDENTS THAT WOULDN'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY THIS GAME OTHERWISE. ON THE ACADEMIC SIDE, THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO-- WE WOULD BE OFFERING STUDY HALLS, TUTORING, MENTORSHIP AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO THESE STUDENTS, ALLOWING THEM TO OBTAIN SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO HAVE A FURTHER, A LONG-TERM IMPACT ON THEIR LIVES. SO WHAT I ASK FROM THE BOARD, ANYONE WHO IS SPEAKING I ASK FOR ANY SUPPORT, WHETHER IT BE FINANCIAL OR STAFFING SUPPORT. WE ARE IN NEED OF AN ACADEMIC DIRECTOR, SOME THAN TO SEE THE ACADEMIC BRANCH OF THE ORGANIZATION. SOMEONE WHO WOULD HAVE A PASSION FOR THIS BRAM, ALONG WITH THAT, WE ARE IN NEED OF VOLUNTEER STAFFERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. ANYONE WHO COULD HELP WITHOUT WITH THE STUDY HALLS, THE TUTORING. AND THE LACROSSE AS WELL. AS COACHES SO WITH THAT SAID, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS, YOU CAN SPEAK TO ME AFTERWARDS, AFTER THIS MEETING. AND ONE LAST THING. THIS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT I'M JUST KIND OF CREATING MYSELF. THIS HAS HAD SUCCESS IN OTHER AREAS OF THE COUNTRY AND IT'S BEEN VERY BENEFICIAL TO THEIR COMMUNITIES AND WOULD I JUST LIKE TO DO THE SAME FOR MY COMUNITY AS WELL. SO WITH THAT, THANK YOU AND HAVE A GOOD NIGHT. >> Chair Brill: THANK YOU. LORI LANDIS. IS SHE STILL HERE? WELL, THAT'S OUR LAST NON-AGENDA SPEAKER, BOARD MEMBERS. SO I'LL NOW ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO ADJOURN. MOTION BY MR. FERGUSON, SECOND BY MR. BARBIERI. ANY DISCUSSION? ALL IN FAVOR? OPPOSED? MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. MEETING IS ADJOURNED
