thank you Lillian does anybody have any questions for lilan or Quinn thank you so much good luck with everything than there's a lot going on at the end of the year coming up all right our next piece we have is our public hearing for school choice so I believe I have to open the hearing and then Dr Campbell thank you Miss pader um so we do this every around this time every year inter District school choice so the interdistrict school choice program excuse me it's been placed in Massachusetts since about 1991 so school choice offers um parents and Guardians to enroll their child excuse me in a district school district other than the district where their child lives so uh there's a presumption that all School committees will participate in school choice unless voted otherwise by June 1st so under Mass General law all school districts are presumed to participate um in in this process um unless they vote to withdraw so a district can withdraw uh from school choice only if a school committee holds a public hearing on the issue and then votes to withdraw from school choice program uh prior to June 1st of the the the year preceding uh the fiscal year so at this time um my recommendation would to the committee would be to elect to withdraw school choice for the 24 25 school year thank you do we have any members of the public who are intered in talking to us about school choice all right seeing none then I will close the hearing and then I'll open it up to the committee if anybody has any questions or um has a motion they would like to put forth Mr Pano uh I would move to follow the superintendent's recommendation the Plymouth Public Schools um not participate in the school choice program for the upcoming school year thank you have a motion do we have a second thank you Miss h i mean Miss Aver oh geez sorry about that um all right so we have a motion a second any questions on the motion seeing none we should be able to vote all right the motion passes unanimously thank you everybody you our next piece that we have on the agenda our school Improvement plan so we now have headed Elementary School to go are we going to both you can I mean you're both welcome to and fairness then I'll stay for support perfect thank you whoever just want to make sure it works before I get started right yeah great well let me go back here we go still not going back well you saw the picture of head School in the beginning right we'll just keep as long as it goes forward right apparently Dr R just told us we have 10 minutes each so I'm gonna talk very fast please you're fine take your time it's okay stop me along the way that message is for other people you're good don't worry um Kristen Wilson Hedge School um thank you for having me here this evening I'd like to start by thanking my school councel that helped me put together the school Improvement plan and monitor it for our first year because now we are going to be talking this evening about our year two um Hedge School as you know is a very diverse school with a lot of different um cultures that are represented in our school and we really have a mission to create an inclusive environment where students have access to the general education curriculum and it's not going Kristen we'll just pause that's a problem it's weird can you manually do it oh that's funny oh can you get up okay maybe escape from it you're here for me thank you oh there it is you can have the next slide next slide please there we go we'll just skip ahead so we are a schoolwide title one school our low-income numbers are about 66 and a half% with our high needs numbers close to 80% right now um in the beginning of the year our students with disabilities was low um a little over 133% we've done done a lot of testing this year and we're close to 20% right now for students with disabilities um we are seeing um a unique um experience with our growing El population that we also are are finding students that have disabilities that are also English language Learners um so it's been a opportunity us for explore different ways to be able to determine if it's an an language barrier or if it is a disability and I know we have some work and some professional development coming up this year to help us with that we have 12 classrooms K through five two grade level two classes for each grade level and right now we have about 215 students at our little school we have 72 students that qualify for English language learning instruction which is about 33% and then 88 students that English is their second language which is about 41% so we're getting close to almost 50% um right now um I put the slide o not yet sorry she's good um I just showed the access participation up there from the last uh last year slide where in um 2022 we had 62 students this year in 2023 we had 63 students so we didn't see a huge jump this past year like we did the previous year so I'm maybe we're leveling off we we won't know until we go a little further but we did notice that this year okay um this year our theme was kindness rocks and we always like to embed our theme for the school year around our one school one book which was the one in only Ivan and I'll talk more about that when we get to family engagement our first goal that I want to focus on is academic achievement so we we've done a lot as you know we do a lot every year um but we did collaborate with the reading and writing project through Moss flower with Nathaniel Morton this year U which was great to have um because we only have two teachers at each grade level it's a great opportunity for our teachers to be able to collaborate with more than just another teacher when it comes to professional development so we liked working together with them um we also we did a lot of other PD but the big thing I really want to highlight is the work we did around our English language model at Hedge School last year we really created an inclusive um English language program where our El teachers primarily instructed the students in the classroom and this year we looked at our schedule and we thought how can we make this more effective and really um get the most bang for our buck if you will we have two fulltime El teachers in our building for all of the students that we're working with and so because uh the areas that the El teachers need to focus on are the four domains Reading Writing speaking and listening we felt that it would make more sense to instruct the students during the reading and writing Workshop block because it's very easy to to embed the language skills in the reading and writing learning standards so we also decided that um when we looked at our schedule our El teachers really wanted to work at all grade levels so what we've done is we created a schedule schoolwide where our El teachers could be at every grade level one through six during the reading or writing block and they each had a classroom that they focused on and when they were in that classroom they were able to Target the students based on their needs and what language skills they needed at that time and as we've moved throughout the year we have found that some students might be in a different class but they're working on the same skill and so we sometimes pull kids from different classrooms into the other learning environment and we we really found that it worked well this year and through our learning walks in our walk with confienza we've um we've received some positive feedback and we're looking forward to sharing that model um with other schools in the district as well um so we're very happy and we did not noticed that on our mcast scores as I'll show um in a minute that our El students have demonstrated high growth um so we feel that the model is effective based on some of the work and the data that we're seeing um one of the pieces a little funny story is uh one of our El students who um had worked really hard last year in second grade and learned a lot of the phonic skills because we use the phonics progression to monitor our students in with their phonic skills to be able to give them the skills they need to um break the code of of English if you will um and he wasn't reading and over the summer he came back in third grade and he was reading and we said what happened he said I I I use close caption all summer when I watch TV um so it was you know kind of fun to kind of think about using those tools in the general setting classroom setting to help students but that was a cute little story so we gave them the foundation and and he was able to to make it happen for himself um so when you look at our achievement data and you look up here and you you can see with our um Ela and the one upper left our proficiency really stayed the same 34% but if you look over to our growth we went up a little bit to 54% so we were excited about that growth um our math we're we're very happy about and I'm talk more about that but you'll see that we jumped from 26% proficient to 35 and then our growth both went from 42 to 52% um our science scores went down a little bit and we always CH our challenge with science because it's fifth grade and as a transient school we don't have our students for the full six years that they're there so we try to fill in the gaps as best as we can and help them be um Avid thinkers and Learners so that they can be able to navigate the tests but it's a challenge for us that we're constantly looking at and when you go into the next slide when you look at our math this was our highlight for the year for academic achievement um there you can see the increase with the student growth percentile at 52% from 42% but if you look down the bottom where it says grade five math mcast one of our it doesn't look like a big deal but for us it is you'll notice um on the preliminary 2023 and over on the right there is zero needs improvements for fifth grade um so that was a huge success for us to not have any needs improvements um also in the bottom of the star math data you'll see that we we said we flipped the grid uh this winter for the star assessments where we had um in the fall we had 42% of our student were at or above grade level and then in the winter it moved up to 52% so we were very excited to see the growth with students in a very short period of time so what are we going to do next year we're going to continue everything we did did this year um and then we're going to work on the Barry engagement Continuum that we've been um exploring on our learning walks um we really want to get to that driving range um to have our students be really independent thinkers and Learners um we're also going to really work on being responsive teachers uh which the workshop model allows us to be responsive teachers using data to identify where students are in teaching to the child uh not to the uh the papers and worksheets and different things like that one other thing that came up from our confienza walk in our learning walks was using the practice of oral rehearsal with our students to practice the language out loud um before they go to write um or before they go to read and really engaging in oral rehearsal practices and what might that look like could be a turn in talk it could be having students restate what you say um to try to get them to continually to use their language we also decided that U we had a lot of new curriculum come in very quickly we had a pandemic uh we came back hybrid we had new curriculum and we as a staff in school decided we need to take a pause and we need to look at our practices and and re and just kind of refine them a little bit so we really want to explore all the components again of the reading and writing workshop and just really make sure that we're doing the best job that we can with the time that we have we also want to do that for our phonics units of study because again it we had covid we get phonics units we have new staff we came back we really want to look at those units and make sure that we're using all the resources to the best of our ability and then we anticipate next year new writing units of study for grades three four and five so we know we'll be doing some work on that and we also uh just received kindergarten number Corners curriculum so we want to do a little bit of work on that and always exploring how to best meet the needs of our multilingual Learners our next goal is social emotional learning so what do we do this year we we revised our PBS program one more time um I feel like we're always looking at that and trying to make it better as a staff we decided to go back to doing our hedge kid tickets with our school experiences and everybody seems to feel that that's the way to go we really enjoyed them this year so if you don't remember the kids earned the Hedge kid tickets teachers and staff volunteer to do something fun with the students once a month and they earn tickets to put um into a raffle to be able to get that experience and we picked them at our whole school meeting so that's been a big hit we went through all of our expectations and we revised our posters we reprinted them we put a little Hedgehog on it no we have not changed the mascot we just are using hedgy the Hedgehog as part of our PBIS initiative because it's cute the kids like it um we also added a incentive for Specialists lunch and recess because as you know that's seems to be the trickiest time for students so the kids can earn a hedgy award which just a cute little hedgy that they can collect in their classroom and the classroom that has the largest amount of hedgies at the end of the month gets classroom toad stools that they think are the coolest things in the world so we've been doing that um we also expanded Our Big Brother Big Sister Mentor program and we continue to look at getting more Big Brother Big Sisters coming into our school during lunch and recess to support our kids um and we also um continue with our peer leaders and mentoring program with the older students work with the younger students um what are we going to do next year we're going to continue doing all the wonderful things that we did this year and we also decided based on our evaluation of our responsive classroom practices that we want to revisit some of those components for example morning meeting quiet time using a buddy rooms um imp positive teacher language so we'll do some work on those throughout the year next year continue to work on self regulation Techni techniques with our students we are finding that we still have students that are struggling to problem solve and to manage their strong feelings so we want to give them skills and language to help them um and also connect those skills and languages to um at home so that they can use those same practices at home we uh are looking at revising our kindergarten orientation and screening so last year we stole an idea from Cold Spring school and we did group screenings where my grade level team screened about six children at a time by rotating them through stations and we found that to be highly successful and this and then we found that parents weren't coming back for the evening orientation and we missed that opportunity so this year we're going to try holding kindergarten orientation during our screening so while the teachers are screening the children I'll be taking the families and doing just an intimate introduction to our school so we'll we'll see how that goes um we also want to increase our contractual counseling services at our school um because we do feel that there is a need for that our third goal was community and family engagement and this is always one of my favorite things that I do at hedge school because uh we get to see the families all the time as you know being a walking school um this year we held two multilingual family nights which was a huge success the in the beginning we focused more on helping families um understand the mcast process and how to read the mcast res report how to read an access report for their um English language acquisition we showed them how to log into clever on a phone or an iPad or or Chromebook to access books at home online we answered as many questions as we could and really started to build relationships and we also offered a sign up for parents to read our one school one book for recordings at that event in the fall and then this past March we hired someone to come out and do um some engineering work with our family so we always serve pizza um and other yummy foods the kids like but we um we did a demonstration on how to use um a variety of tools to do some pushes and pullings and simple machines and then we gave the time for the parents to work work with the kids and I have some pictures up there it was an amazing night and so while we're there my staff is there and we're answering questions and building relationships and we find it to be very um effective um and we have a translator to help um so we'll continue to do that that was that was great we still have curriculum celebrations um one thing we found with the work from our with confienza they we did a professional development with that group and we wanted to focus Fus on family engagement and through our work in in Reading articles and some of our own reflection we discovered that we do a really great job communicating with families that are their first language is not English and with the technology that we have now we do feel that we're able to to maintain communication either with Google translate or are some more newsletter we have an in-house translator now um you know talking points so many different resources and what we identified was we really need to work on that piece of the high risk um High needs hard to- reach family um so families that are comfortable using the tools we we do we have that communication going on a regular basis but we really need to look at that more High needs family English or not English um so that's something we are going to continue to explore next year we also worked on chronic absente ISM last year it's an ongoing challenge that we're facing we did have uh we did exceed our targets by 25% last year um but you know we continue to work on that um as well we brought back our kindergarten reading bag so we can get books into the home for our families uh and we did a homework survey this year to see if families wanted homework and believe it or not out of 31 out of 51 people who completed the survey they they wanted just a little bit of homework Beyond reading um so our we'll be looking at that um next year so just this is our our fun our next couple of slides are on our One and Only Ivan um and Ivan was a gorilla that lived in a a big top in a shopping mall and we usually pick a book that has a series so that children if they like the the author they can get another read couple books after this one um but we had all our F our parents that signed up from the multilingual family night they were able to read the Portuguese version of The One and Only Ivan so we always have to try to find a book that we can get in Portuguese and we were able to get this they're usually a little bit more expensive so we could only get one um and we found that the students and the families really enjoyed that and we provided access to them and some of our teachers put the recording ings into their teacher page so when they were doing reader Workshop they could listen to the story during readers Workshop if they weren't able to listen to it at home so we had it in English and in Portuguese and then they had they had the books as well um the other thing we discovered was that we always had students engage and love the story but they couldn't always come to the family night so in the next slide I showed that we decided to do an Ivan day during the school day where we did a lot of activi activities during the day similar to when we had our one school one book celebration during Co we thought let's try that let's see how it goes and it was a great hit so we actually we were able to interview a zookeeper at the Atlantic Zoo where Ivan went for his retirement and the children got to explore um his life after the book If you will um and we had lots of art and craft activities and then in the evening we had some other activities that my staff did but we also put out the same activities that we did during the school day so the children were able to share with their parents what they did um and it was a it was a big success and of course Ivan showed up and was greeting everyone at arrival um which the kids always think is a hoot um so next year what are we going to do we're going to continue all that great work that we did this year look at those homework expectations and see what we can do um to provide a little bit more homework we we do feel that sometimes when we give just a little bit home it's also a way for amilies to see what we're doing in the classroom um additional work that came out of our work with confienza is we wanted to explore a welcome protocol to help with that hardto reach families that we're experiencing we do a really great job when children come to us for kindergarten to learn about the student and learn about the family we have a kindergarten questionnaire we have a kindergarten handbook and we thought why aren't we doing that with all of our students when they come and all grade levels so we're going to explore what that looks like and um how we can you know make sure we do a tour when the families come and we can um answer questions and give them resources that would would help them so we're going to do some work on that um we also are experiencing um our playground in the after school we have a phenomenal playground that we're very excited that we have and it's used by our community constantly but it's we we challenges with students that are older um not supervised using our playground after school so our school council wants to work on how can we create a safe and supportive environment after school in our in our school grounds as well um so those are all the things that we're going to do and one of the things that I didn't mention is we're trying to have a little bit of fun um at headed School this year so the next slide just shows you a little bit of fun that our staff has done um where you know it's the work that we do is hard and it can be exhausting um but we try to rally together and support each other to support our students um so I don't know how far over I went just a little just a little I tried to go fast but I can't there's so much going on it's hard not to share all the great things we're doing oh good thank you does anybody have any questions any comments nothing I L your stories uh about the using the closed caption that's actually what I did using to learn Portuguese too watching Netflix at 7 5% Portuguese with Portuguese subtitles so it works it it does it so it was I never heard of anybody else doing that I'm very encouraged by your scores too really something to be proud of thank you did you have something to say Mr Pano no yeah no thank you so much for that presentation it was great and I love to hear the bringing the the one school one book into the day you know solving that problem because that is a great book that whole series is a really great series um but no thank you for all the work that you're doing to you know reach all of our students because I know that you do have that transient population so it can be a little bit more difficult yes thank you all right have to stay I'm gonna stay with you all right we to Federal furnace all right hi I'm Stacy Perry principal at Federal furnace this is my second year at Federal furnace and I am in year two of three for my school Improvement plan um first I'd like to thank my school council we have a very active school council um with a combination of teachers parents and um everyone is very eager to share their thoughts ideas and um I'm really grateful to them so some actually hold on oh little background on federal furnace um our numbers are going down slightly we are now at 384 students 77 staff we have 107 students which is about 28% for special education our English language population for us is growing I know it's only 7% but for us is growing uh we have 25 students and for us this is like an area that I feel like we're moving into and we're trying to educate our staff on like best practices for those students um we have 144 students classified as economically disadvantaged and we are lucky enough to have the Intensive Learning Center in our school and it is three classrooms of students and they are wonderful and fully um embedded into our school culture oops um the vision for federal furnace is we want all students to become lifelong Learners we want to just set them up for success in their future getting into college and just being productive citizens um my own personal vision for federal furnace is I want to have kind students and I want every student in our building to feel like they are represented and they belong some exciting things that have happened or will be coming up is we are we are growing Leaps and Bounds with the children's business fair that has taken on a life of its own and we have so many little shark tank entrepreneurs so that was really great um read Across America is always fun because we usually have special guests coming into for our building to read to our students the students love that we added an event this winter called a pajama night it wasn't just a literacy night we tried to get math science um everything into that one night and also incorporate a community service project so we collected pajama donations so that we could teach the kids about giving back to the community um we always have lots of students my art teacher is phenomenal Mrs W not and she always has um a great group of students that's repres represented in the yam exhibit our PTA is very active and they put on an event that has students coming back they're in high school they're in college and they come back because they remember what a great event it is so it's a really nice way to get families involved and feeling like a part of the community um our one book one school one school one book I always say it backwards we did Charlie in the Chocolate Factory and this is a an entire School event everybody gets involved and we also struggle just like Kristen does at hedge a little bit getting some of the families to come back in the evening so we made sure that every day during the school day we had activities and trivia and things like that so every student was participating um and then also if they weren't able to come to the nighttime event we close the event the following day in school with a whole school trivia game which was um really fun enrichment clubs for us are growing we had book clubs we had robotics we had my craft club that I did um we had a couple art clubs Legos Mr pe's Fitness for the little guys was really popular so our enrichment clubs are growing and they love it coming up later in the school year we're going to have one more club and that's for our Nature's Classroom which began last year we got six beds created and we've got some picnic tables and benches we're moving into our last phase where we're going to add some sort of community rock garden place for kids to come and add a rock with kind uh phrases on it leave one grab one and that will be a work day in May that we're going to have the entire School Community come together to work on that um and we are going to see if we can every year just add a little something to that um I am excited to to say that we got a $500 donation to our garden so we're like really looking forward to this year as far as our care club that was established last year that's the cultural awareness and racial Equity Club our club is very active we have about 20 students that are participating and they are doing things like they made a kindness clip for every student in the school and they put put it on the other students backpack so everyone came out at the end of the day and they had a kindness clip on it so our our care club uh presents at all school meetings they do recess buddy so they're always trying to find ways our big message at Federal furnace is trying to make people feel like they belong and our care Club is running with that mission We are continuing year two of probably my favorite thing that we do and it's the positive calls home depending on what our Focus area is we use our Roar Behavior respect ownership accountability and uh responsibility thank you I'm glad you stayed um and so teachers nominate students and we pull um a certain number every every month that we do it and we call home to say well to let the student tell them they sit in my chair they're in my office on the phone and they get to say I'm sitting in the principal's office and I got nominated and they'll read the nomination parents love it usually they're crying by the end of it so we're we're very happy with that and we're definitely continuing that year after year Unified sports it kind of depends on um the number of open spots that my gym teacher can do but he has done a a great job and even though he didn't have like the extra time on his calendar this year he still made sure we kept Unified sports embedded into the curriculum and that's when we pair up the ilc students with our general ed students and they have a gym class together um the kids do a really really nice job with that we're continuing band chorus and Orchestra and like I said my Nature's Classroom is to come so for us our goal number one is the workshop model we want to really focus on small group instruction that's what we were focusing on last year we're continuing that and that's actually where we're going next year as well our staff has data meetings where we go over the reading recovery data we are a title one school so we have two staff that are um in our building four days a week we use the star data we use the bridges information and we come back together constantly to look at our data see how our kids are doing with the new literacy um protocol we're not just looking at our students that are following in red and yellow we look at all of our students so that we can provide some RTI if they're struggling but also I in my mind we always need to think of all students even the ones that are right on track we want to push them so everybody should be feeling a little bit of a push no matter where they are we've had our literacy lab lab sites with mossflower as well and they have worked with all of our teachers K through five um that has been a really beneficial um professional development for our teachers and great feedback we are doing the workshop model W with math um all of our teachers have minimum two times during the school week where they have common planning time and our child study team is headed up by my vice principal Mrs Wade and she does a phenomenal job checking in with the teachers to make sure that um they're doing okay with what they should do for intervention so that we can kind of keep that cycle going and kids moving forward for mcap I put the graphs that just sort of shows our Trend and how we're doing so grade three Ela is on the left math is on the right so our we're trending in the right direction which is great and if you looked at our data individually um we're always above the state which was really nice to see and we're making great progress we do have if you look on the lower end it's it on the The Bottom bar that is students with that are on IEPs or our English language Le so that's our Focus area and that will you know continuous continue to be our Focus area so we make sure Stu all students we want all students to be performing and have that line going up this is grade four same thing we have we're going we dipped a little in one and we went up in another um significantly so these are conversations this information was shared with our staff and we used these charts and all of the different data that we had available to talk about it look at item analysis see are we kind of missing something do we need to look at a unit we use our coaches and our ctls to help us dig through the mcast data and it's not just mcast and I know it's not the the one be all but we use this and our Benchmark data and our star data to kind of see like how can we improve to help our kids keep making the gains fifth grade is trending up they are doing a great job um and again if you just look at the ones on the bottom that will be where we're focusing to make sure we are doing best practices for multilingual Learners and what can we do for our students on IEPs so to close the gap we really use our Title One teachers um we were very fortunate last year we had we had four teachers actually I lied we had five teachers last year now we're down to two but we're making it work um so we work really closely with them to globally look at the entire building and then determine based on the the age the needs what we have in place we use our Title One sta our ctls our coaches to try to meet the needs of everyone as best we can and our 0 five elll teacher is shared between our school and West so we do get to see her two and a half days but if I ruled the world I would have a full-time teacher so hopefully we'll we'll Trend there someday but we're making doe with what we have and just like Kristen was saying we're really focusing on it's a little bit harder with her only being here two and a half days but we want her in the classroom so that she can support the students in the classroom as opposed to pulling out goal two is social emotional learning and um this is something that we make sure we put the teachers put in their morning meeting every day they embedded in there and we also use the care Club as a a part where they're sending that message everyone belongs within our morning meetings we make sure that we're we're getting all of the different whoever represented in our school should be represented in our morning meeting so we're very mindful of the all school meeting ones and then that it's happening in the classroom where they're making sure the students that are Portuguese have some greetings that are for them or we we bring in the culture and and that's the place that we're going there um we do have a mentoring program our school psychologist Mrs Bates coordinates that where if we find a student just could benefit from having an adult in the building where they can just get together 5 10 minutes during the school week we pair them up and they have their Mentor time and um the students really enjoy that second steps is our main area that we're using for social emotional learning and that is embedded into the classroom one lesson a week but it's really every day um PBIS for us is our roar like I said so we have the coins the kids earn the coins they get to to have their picture in the front office to show that they filled their classroom container then their grade level container and then we do the schoolwide so we have had uh two schoolwide incentives and we're very close for our next one so we'll keep that going and it is year two for us with the with Roar and we will just like hedge did we'll probably look at it to try to you know add a little life to it year after year so that kids don't get tired of it this is just an example I just the cutest thing when we do positive calls home like and then they get their t-shirt and they bring their little script home so Mom and Dad can and Grandma and and we just make sure we talk to somebody so sometimes we've talked to grandparents sometimes aunties and uncles so it's it's really great the kids love it Community engagement this is one of our areas that I think we're really focusing on and um before I go through some of the um action items to the right was our make a wish if I don't know if any of you heard it but tan got his make a wish he got to go to Disney he had an absolute ball the family had so much fun and this was at our presentation um it was just such a great day so we use for Community engagement we use our parent survey as the jumping off point as far as school council we send that out every year we kind of get the parents feedback we see what they think that would it would um be beneficial to add into our school um some of the events I've already mentioned the pajama night Spooktacular with Bingle night one book one one school we do an ice cream social for the incoming kindergarten students and their families um we have field day and we're having the Senior Walk So Community engagement is I think where we're going to just really put a lot of focus in because I think the more you can get families into the school the kids are excited the family's excited and it just it builds um a nice collaboration the last one is equity diversity and belonging that is our goal for and really our hair club with the B buddy benches and our bulletin boards our all school meetings um we the on the front one of my slides where you see the mural that was last year's um project but we're going to continue the beautification process because this 1977 I think 77 building is is kind of hard and a lot of beige so that's we're working on that to bring it back to life so that it looks like an elementary school um and I mentioned Unified sports program um so for us for year three where will we be going we will continue small group instruction and trying to look at ourselves and see how we're doing with making everybody feel like they belong are our libraries you know have diverse titles are things on our wall welcoming to everybody are our assembl is that so we're we're really taking a look at of ourselves continuing some of our programs trying to build on Nature's Classroom and I think I ended with this last year with the beautification of the building and I'm still there and I will have my paintbrush out this summer so that we keep going and get rid of some of the beige any questions thank you anybody have any questions or comments no thank you so much for that great presentation really appreciate it it was it was excellent thank you thank you both thank you thank you all right I'm gonna try to take something out of order so I'm hoping that nobody on the committee would mind if we move the field trip up um so that Shelly Terry can go home um if with does anybody have any objections to me moving it no all right so we will take the field trip so we will take hold on uh 7.0 a it's very strange6 7.6 okay sorry 7.6 out of order go ahead all right so I'm going to be taking a group of 39 students to Newport um I have done this years and years and years ago so it's been a while uh postco now doing it um we're going to be going to tour the breakers and rosecliffe um it is in conjunction with reading the great gadsby so um a lot of the students um you know a lot of the students that are going have actually said that they haven't even gone to Newport in their lives or even Rhode Island so I'm excited to take them out of state um we'll be able to see two different experiences looking at how one house represents what gadsby was in and then the other house showing about the more classic uh you can in household so trying to really get them into understanding the opulence that exists in the book that I don't think they really truly understand until they witness it so what questions do you have anybody yes Mr present more just comment I one I I the great G is one of my favorite books I just love this concept so I'm glad you're bringing it back cuz yeah I mean the fact that we are so close and so many kids have I'm sure don't ever leave Plymouth yep County to be able to see that in life and actually see what what they're actually talking about in the book I think it's just an awesome idea and I love that you're taking like the cp2 classes a lot of times it's some of the higher end classes that could of take advantage like this so yeah and it's fully funded um I I got it fed through the Plymouth Educational Grant so L cost the kids a dollar so thank you for the to the pouth Education Foundation for that yeah absolutely question no well I don't think we've had a chance to like really congratulate you publicly I think it's important I know you probably just get embarrassed over and over but you know I I think that's important that we recognize that so congratulations on your a i it is like what is it mil milkin I knew it started with an N milk award you know I I mean that's incredible so appreciate it celebrated a thousand different ways but you know I think we haven't really publicly celebrated you so thank you for that thank you very much did you go to Disneyland uh April vacation two weeks yep that's what I said I was going to do so yep we're going April two weeks oh fun do anybody let's go back to this does anybody have any questions on this do we have a motion for the field trip to miss miss Avery I move to the uh trip to uh field trip to Newport as presented thank you we have a motion do we have a second we have a second Mr Bano anybody have any questions on the motion if no questions we can vote all right that passes unanimously thank you so much thank you you very much all right now back in order we will go up to our superintendent goals 7.1 thank you very much so um I included two documents for you this evening to consider for the submm of evaluation won't go into great detail but just to explain there's two documents one is sort of uh a update regarding where I am in relation to to those four goals there's some hyperlinks that are associated with there some for some evidence in addition to that I started this last year um in terms of when you look at the standards of effective administrative leadership uh in the rubric there are 21 indicators there they go everywhere from curriculum instruction to through policy and management whatnot so to try to again provide some context to that and some narrative I've included a document here with additional links and references for you to sort of look at and and take into consideration as you uh of deliberate over that over the next month or so thank you okay we GNA do you want to take questions or yeah if you have any you have any questions regarding it um either tonight or um in the in the coming weeks too okay I know that Miss Badger asked for information to be completed by the 22nd of April so yeah I know I put it on I put the schedule somewhere and I'll follow follow with an email of course just to remind everybody but um oh God I can't find it to yes if everyone can have it to me by April 22nd which means that you know I will hopefully have them done May 1st so that they can be posted in plenty of time and for our May 6th evaluation to be presented at the school committee anybody have any questions on the information that was provided anything there's a lot there so if you have questions afterwards of course please please reach out there was a great deal I think when I was going through just looking and I know I shared and asked for permission on a number of the documents corrected the okay I was going to go I would just go back and thank you it's a complicated system behind the scenes I try to make it as easy as possible so when you're clicking on it it's actually taking you to folders that have that are that follow a logic so some things didn't get connected um but that's been resolved no thank you I appreciate it and I think the way it's laid out really does help I don't know about any all the other members but it it helps to kind of understand where things belong and how you know what you're looking at because sometimes it can be a lot of information that's a bit chaotic and again this is just a sampling and there's other things I probably overlooked um when or excluded um but I'm try to give some context again no thank you I appreciate it no questions on anything there okay um and so that kind of covered both 7.1 and 7.2 um but yeah just remember next meeting April 22nd all due to me so we have time to compile them and if anybody has any questions let us know um or if you need a copy I mean we have the copy but if it's harder for you to pull down just let us know um all right so our next piece we have is ouru student Opportunity Act Dr Campbell or turn over to Dr Rogers who speak to this and you have some slides too right yep so there's two documents under this under 7.3 so one is um a slide deck which is sort of the abbreviated version and then the other one is um a more complicated um version that has to be uploaded to the Department of Education by tonight at 11:59 so um this is an action item so the school committee is um required to vote on this um so the slides again are just um an overview of what is in the larger report um so that first slide just sort of talks a little bit about what the student opportunity Act is um and Adam can talk a little bit about the funding but the long and the short of it is we don't get nearly as much as they had promised a few years back um and what the student Opportunity Act does is that it requires districts to look at improving disparities um among student groups so if you look at that next slide um the district oh sorry the slide they're not they're on my screen but they're not uh on the board okay I mean we I mean we have them in front of you have in front of you so you can follow along somewhat um so the Department of Education um again requires districts to look at disparities in certain um subgroups so if you look at the district heat map um other that is on your slide um so we really looked at the red sections and then the the following slid so that's sort of like a nice visual of of where um Plymouth sort of fall short and the different subgroups that we need to we need to look at um and then determine evidence-based practices um to improve those scores um so I don't need to read these all but um again looking at identified groups with the greatest need are English language Learners which you heard from um Kristen and from Stacy um and then those are the four components um where we have to look at as a district so chronic absenteeism for that group passing ninth ninth graders passing um dropout rate in fifth year graduation students with disabilities um out of school suspensions um africanamerican and black students out of school suspensions American Indian um Alaskan Alaskan native chronic absenteeism and pathway enrollment Hispanic Latino ninth grade passing percentage Dropout percentage fifth grade sorry fifth year graduation rate and then native Hawaiian Pacific Islander chronic absenteeism and pathway enroll um and then it it also drills down to our MCAT scores so um Ela mcast students with disabilities in grade 10 mcast math mcast student disabilities in grade six and then Hispanic multi-race or Latino in grades 6 8 and 10 so the district then has to identify evidence-based practices to address these disparities so the district um in consultation with a lot of our stakeholder groups um and a lot of the initiatives that the district has already started working on so focused area one is promoting student physical mental health and wellness um so again you heard Stacy Perry and Kristen both talk about equity and belonging so that's really critical for all of our subgroups um our Focus area two is selecting and skillfully implementing high quality engaging instructional materials that support culturally support cultural and linguistic sustaining practices to Foster deeper learning um so really that's a lot of the work of our academic coordinators um especially literacy right now our Focus uh second Focus area is using mass tiered systems of support to process and Implement academic support so again I'll use Stacy and and Kristen as the example because they were here earlier today but they talked a lot about response to intervention they talked a lot about push in versus pull out models so looking at different ways that we can help to support um our subgroups um looking at we're doing a lot of work with confianza which is a Consulting Group um to look at the weda Frameworks and crosswalk that with our current um curriculum in ela and math and then it kind of talks about high level Investments so working on professional development I think that's something that Plymouth does really really well program adjustments to ensure equal access to high quality instruction and instructional materials um so again making sure that all of our students have access to high quality instructional materials early literacy screening so that was a new initiative rolled out by the Department of Education this year so ensuring that all kids K through three um are screened three times per year and that information goes home to parents but then it really helps us to Target interventions specific to reading and phonics implementation and F Fidelity of the child study team process and practices so ensuring that all of our schools are engaging in a child study team process to identify student students um that have a high level of need working on our collaborative and co- teing model so you've heard you heard Kristen tonight talk about um how her test scores have really gone up so the research has shown um that that pushin model really helps to support our English language Learners and also our special education students safe and supportive environments again uh you heard from both Kristen and Stacy tonight um but that's really critical in all of our buildings and I think our our principals do an amazing job of providing that for our students um a range of program options responsive to the diverse needs so looking at our staffing patterns to make sure that we have Equitable access to our Consulting teachers of literacy our elll teachers special education teachers and other Specialists across the district expanding access to preschool and Extended Learning time so we really have been talking with Denise about how how to try to provide expanded preschool so Denise has done a really great job writing a grant um and we have a team of teachers that goes out to that go out to private preschools across Plymouth um so that they are able to access full day preschool so we're also looking at potentially expanding the preschool um maybe having SLE going back to our previous model which we had in the district a few years ago when preschool classrooms were at South Elementary um but we're really feeling that there's a need to increase the access to public preschool across the district so looking at ways to support that um and um fund it and then Extended Learning Time activities um so that's our after school programming um and also our Title One summer program that um happens for our elementary school kiddos these are the um ways that we leverage those funds so our Title One Grant title 2A title three title four Ida which are our special education grant our Inclusive Preschool Grant we utilize also a lot of local funds um the Perkins Grant and other competitive grants um as available um and appropriate so we just were awarded today the opioid $50,000 for the opioid um grants through the town um so we'll be running some programming with that so very excited to get that off the ground so any questions on the district's SOA anybody have any questions sorry that went fast Mrs Jackson um I just wanted to know um like when it comes to the numbers of the like when we go back and look at the red areas M excuse me sorry um how are we using the funding then to target some of those areas because I feel like like the like the specific breakdowns that you were talking about um are we leveraging like Briana or other people to sort of drill down to see like why things like this are happening I mean I know they're happening across the district across the state Across the Nation it's not news I'm just curious yeah sort of like that root cause analysis of of why yeah so we have lots of um Avenues throughout the district to kind of drill down on the on the why right um and it's a little tricky to kind of tease out and a lot of its you know I guess speculation for lack of a better term as to like why you know what a lot of it is to is um talking with our elpac parents around chronic absenteeism a lot of it um is cultural so when we talk with you know families around like working situations or um grandparents raising kids so some of it is that and for a lot of families it's it's very individualized circumstances um but we know when we have a cohort of kids um you know chronic absenteeism is is a problem across across the country just because we sent a really terrible message during Co that school was optional um so again I think it depends on the group and also um the area that is being targeted if that makes sense another thing that we do our child study team process is really critical to this which is universal across our school so when you're looking at students that may be flagged within some of those categories really looking at them through that child study process uh with counselors support staff Administration to come up with the plan for for the students individually are they getting Services elsewhere what supplemental Services could they get um do they have counseling in in people to check in on them so it's really while it's as Dr Roger said holistic and this report is looking at the entire District the the the the the power and the influence is really at the building and individual level when we get down to the the granular details and working with our administrators on these indicators in relation to their students um and as Dr Roger said that root cause for each individual student which is going to vary um but also looking at holistic things in terms of policies and practices and opportunities the level of inclusion as Dr Roger said to really looking at like examining our practices at the same time and really being intentional to Target those specific areas like if you look at Chronic absenteeism you know we I've been working very closely with Ben we were able to get a state Grant um to Target attendance so we're going to be targeting and marketing you know specifically when when we met as a group um the data showed us that attendance is the worst in grades K and one which is interesting but then also 7 and eight so I'm not surprised at the middle school piece but um you know getting our little guys into back into a routine of getting up and getting on the bus and things like that and just promoting how important um Regular attendance in school is for for the Long Haul um so again being very intentional with regard to those red indicators anybody else have questions questions Mr Pano did you have a question okay I just I find it really interesting it's when you look at that the the hot that heat map I heat map there we go I was like I know there was it's just so interesting especially when you look at the uh what is it the math scores for Hispanic or Latino and then multi-race um non-hispanic or Latino how it flips it it's just I'm so curious like to find out what is causing that what's the root of that is so interesting and the what happens between you know six and you know what happens between six and eight what is that that makes I know we've talked a lot about like what's happening really tough year yeah it's just so interesting to see this and then by 10th grade they're not red anymore right so part of that could be attended or they are red and it's like there were blue before but yeah attendance it's the root causes yeah and some of it too we've talked about this too is um with transient population particularly of students who who are coming to us there's been a a a continual disruption in their education and trying to particularly in math that can have a significant impact but really looking at that lack of formal education which I think we see more and more now with an increase in students that have come here to our country um for the first time so that's another thing I think regardless of where they're coming from that transient uh population is something that having a plan on how we get to know those kids as soon as possible to try to fill in those gaps and come up with a plan for them yeah whether it's hedge as uh Miss Wilson said or our high schools yeah like Miss Wilson said like is that is that learning disability actually it or is it part of like figure fing out if it's that I am learning this language or I actually have a deeper root cause as to what's happening and why I'm not progressing or learning or whatever I can't imagine it but being in those shoes and those are some really strong kids um anybody else so we need a motion to approve the is it the SOA the submitt of it or just to the submitt okay so I need a motion for that Mrs Savory Miss saory God I really bad today sorry fine it happens you all the names it happens all the time um I move to um well now I totally lost my TR you just said was to submit to approve the mission of the SOA as written perfect presented perfect I have a second Mrs Jackson is our second uh any questions on the motion no we should be able to vote on the motion and it is approved I hope that the approval the uploading process goes smoothly good luck all right our next piece that we have is our bus um transportation fees Dr blazel sure um tonight again I we talked a little bit about bus and transportation fees um over the past couple weeks I've presented um some of the Fe some of the the issues that we're facing um and obviously with increasing prices um increasing costs for transportation transportation is a major expense for this District um so tonight that I'm recommending is um that we do a proposed rate of $150 per student with a family cap of $450 anybody have any questions um about this or I mean we've had a lot of discussion on this um Mr bazano um no I think it's very reasonable it's been 135 for as long as I can remember the whole time my kids were in school so tomato to have gone up a whole you know what $15 in as this long a period of time I think is more than um reasonable and obviously we still have um processes in place to help the you know lower income folks so I think it's a good move I think I think it's like the bare minimum we could raise it is a little we are a little lower we're 125 well the regular is 125 100 75 and as I said that tiered that teered makes it very difficult for yeah obv yeah for obviously there's plenty people that are paying the what 105 if you pay on time or um I think it's 100 100 yeah 17550 yes 17550 Miss Avery um I know we talked about this before but I think it's important to note again for any families that are out there and and think that they're going to struggle with this if they um do apply for um free and reduced launch then that that will help them with this as well yes yes and part of the one of the documents in here that says transportation fee information that will be posted on the website and if when we get the online payments up we're just waiting for what the rate will be okay um it's number four it talks a little bit about the fee waiver and so forth perfect yeah I think with the the lunch situation people still are not applying as much as they used to so as long as we make it clear that there's other things other than lunch that fall into that category and you get the information from the state now too so that's just supplementary so that helps a little we do get that economically disadvantaged data M Mr Pano yeah follow for ask sub from the the tiered um process we have now I know student or families can pay for like one way when they only need it in the morning or afternoon will they still be able to um do do half of this this the way the proposal is is just one fee um at this point that's the way we're propos again I think that's only thing I I might just we have option because I know I don't know how many families let you take advantage of that but for the ones that do it it's kind of hard to pay full price when you're only doing half of it but I'm not sure if that's worth anyone else thinks that do we know how many families do do that I don't I don't have that information I know I've done it but I don't know how many anybody have questions or want to move anything that was an option I know right desire the will of the committee I'm okay with it it is yes Mr Morgan to approve the bus transportation fee as presented thank you Mr Morgan we do we have a second thank you Miss safy we have a do we have any questions on the motion I did it I know perfect and we should be able to vote if nobody has questions on the motion perfect that was unanimous so thank you so much for doing all that work and bearing with us as we process it ourselves that's okay um all right our next is we have our athletic fees right back at you it is a big decision yeah honestly and truly um raise no one wants to raise rates at all um if we could have things for free I would love to to just include it to be honest with you um same conversation with Athletics um we've talked a little bit about the expenses and what what it costs us to Run Athletics and um it's a very it's incredibly used in this District um my own kids have partic all three of my kids have participated um we have about 1,850 athletes across through the year obviously there's some duplicates through there if they play multiple sports but um there's a large number of kids that that play different sports um and so today what I'm proposing is that we raise our rate from $135 to $175 per per athlete with a Max family cap of $875 per year it's keeping with that same five sports um and so if you have multiple kids playing multiple Sports um it would be capped at 875 which is five and again the same concept the same idea comes into play the athletic directors are great in regards to talking to families and and waving fees where they need to we fees and um they've been really great working with families anybody have any questions Mr Pano you no no question just just more support I was you know took a long look at the all all the other uh districts think providing those that detail and even going up to 175 we're still in the well and the bottom half compared to all of our peers and if we specifically look at just the other um schools that we compete with in our side of the Patriot League the average of those other five schools is like $270 so we're still significantly less than the schools that we're competing against like you know ducksbury Whitman Hansen Etc I mean they're all you know minimum 200 if not you he's up to 375 so you know it's it's I think it's very reasonable and there has been some conversation about tearing it for some of those other sports and talking to the athletic directors and the principles that they're really not in support with of that because it it adds another complication to counter to sports fees as well maybe it's something we look at at the future but at this point in time I wouldn't recommend it and the athletic directors and the principles wouldn't either okay it's a lot of lot yeah there there's an equity issue with that too you know kids being penalized for being football versus cross country or whatever you know yes obviously they don't cost us all the same but Mr Morgan is there a cap in uh the current fee there is it's 675 right now okay so it'll go to 875 yes okay it's the same same qu five sports yeah Sports anybody with's a desire of the committee and moving forward or if anybody has additional questions Mr P I would move to um accept the uh recommendation as presented thank you we have a motion do we have a second thank you Mrs Jackson we have a motion and a second any questions on the motion no all right we can vote and that passes unanimously thank you again for all that and for all your help working us through this I think that was really helpful for us to have all that data I know it takes a long time to kind of pull it all together but it does help you know when we're talking to people um who are either have concerns and so thank you so much for all of that we did a field trip now we have policy section I Dr Rogers yep so um we just went through policy section I which was a lot um 55 pages I believe um so it took us a little bit but this is just an info item so give you guys a little bit of time to digest it and go through it so um I did get Michelle um sorry no that's totally that's perfect um Michelle's um I don't want to say add his suggestions um and then right before this meeting I also got some suggestions from the CPAC but I didn't have an opportunity to read those um so our next policy committee meeting is April 11th so any ideas suggestions that you have with regard to section I if you want to just send those along I'll bring those back to the committee next week um and make any edits and then um we'll be looking for a vote on that section on April 22nd perfect thank you yes Mr Mr Pano CH obviously we been going through all these poliy updates is the main main objective I through this proc is really just the whole reformatting right it's not are we also it's it for the most it doesn't like we're doing whole scale some updat that's more of an ongoing thing yeah so it was for me it was twofold is one is the organiz the organization but two um we had several policies that were out of date and also out of comp so it was kind of a good opportunity to to do both um so that we're in compliance with all of our handbooks and things like that and there's been a lot of um legal updates as well okay thanks questions any any additional questions all right thank you we will vote on this next time um thank you for taking if you have any questions I don't know if I was exactly as eloquent as I could have been in the email I sent you but you were very articulate so I appreciate it you thank you welcome all right the next thing we have is our uh 7D van driver job description Dr blazel perfect um last year I brought to you a bus driver job description um as we took as we did not have one um we do not have a 7D van driver either job description um so this is for we did purchase some Vans through the use of Esser funds um as we learned the other day they call it eer funds at the state level because we have S Essa allw the title grants so they do that and correct to be very clear I learned that the other day um Easter okay so this is so this would be for some some of those people who would be driving those vans um as again as we've talked about with Transportation we're trying to take over some of the transportation on a on small scale um because some of the 7D drivers that we are some of the 7D vans that we are dealing with are we're paying somewhere between $5 and $800 a day um and we can do that a lot cheaper ourselves um so this is a job description really mirrored exactly out the bus driver um job description the only difference is um notification of where it says 7D license um if someone has a CDL license they are capable they are able to drive a 7D van but if you have a 7D license you are not able to drive a scuba so this is just specifying some changes and licensure really and almost everything else is pretty much exact anybody have any questions sorry Mr just a representative position or what at this point in time we have a group kind of like we have the finance and um HR Group here at central office um we have a a group but it is not a it's not a cobra or anything like that but it's a like a bargaining group within it itself yeah like yeah a a private group kind okay yeah any other questions all right this is an action item if we would like to move forward with approving it Mrs Jackson I um I ask that we approve the job description for the van driver as presented thank you I have a motion do I have a second a second Mr Bano thank you all right we have a motion a second any questions on the motion all right we should be able to vote all right that passes unanimously thank you very much thank you um all right now we have superintendent report Dr Campbell thank you m Badger just a few things this evening so strategic planning is going along well we met last Monday the 25th our next meeting is next Monday the 8th uh we had a really good uh session really looking at our mission statement our core values and and and putting to pen a lot of instructional initiatives um instructional objectives for lack of a better phrase regarding the themes that are emerging through the strategic planning process so um look forward to um continuing that work um our statement of Interest application was formerly submitted today um almost entirely we're waiting at signatures but Dr blazedale initiated that process and um well my part's done I submitted my sign mine you're waiting on me um so we're just waiting for signatures of the Town side as well um but we're you know and then we'll anxiously await their their uh feedback in December probably of 24 um coffee and conversations the next forum is next Wednesday April 10th we will review the health curriculum talk about health and education here in Plymouth um we Dr Rogers and I met with the Falmouth uh VIPs program the volunteers and and public schools a couple weeks ago um and have applied with their support and they really just great people there in fouth uh looking at the mass service Alliance Grant opportunity for district volunteer program so should give us some seed money as soon as we hear about that um to sort of create a framework for us I think moving forward as we're looking at ways to strategically look at Community Partnerships mentoring volunteerism in the schools really trying to Brand it in a way and and put some you know more formal articulation to that so look forward to that um we've had a few administrative updates since our last meeting I don't think we had a meeting since then but um we've had two uh announcements for reti retirements from Principal ships since we met um across the street Mr Spencer uh retiring from Nathaniel Morton and uh Chris Morgan Cold Spring Elementary School um so we're we there a great loss I actually had U both of them uh were co-leading Nathaniel Morton when my kids were first there so um had a personal connection with them as well really wish them well um we' started that search process the application um have start getting submitted um Mr chopi and I met with the Cold Spring faculty today to kind of fill them on the process much like Nath Mo we met with them last week to go through that process with them both buildings have had a principal in quite some time AIA Morton it's been 13 years since they had a different principal in 11 years this is Chris's 10th at Cold Spring so um a lot of change um but we're you know we're hopeful with application pool that comes in that we can get uh some qualified candidates and be presenting two additional principles to you all uh before the end of the school year uh and our director of special education search um is underway and we will be doing interviews Thursday Thursday for that initial process so we look forward to seeing uh the results of that and sharing that with you as well um just another exciting thing we had our Milan Award winner here this evening we also uh got word that Miss Kathleen Shaw PCS uh grade six Math Science teacher one of five State finalists for the prestigious National Science foundations presidential award uh this award is among the highest nation's highest honors for teaching in stem so really excited really proud of of cathol of Kathleen Shaw she's an amazing teacher um who will also be recognized at the the May amazing Educators event we have three teachers there this year which is pretty incredible uh so just congratulations to to Kathleen Shaw uh well deserved and then just uh we have our town meeting this Saturday it's hard to believe it seems like it's been a long time coming but it's finally here so this Saturday um we'll start town meeting and and hopefully complete time town meeting by Saturday but time will tell we do have a a follow-up date for Monday in in the evening if necessary that's all I have this evening thank you and we're meeting at 7:30 prior we've posted we'll post a meeting for 7:30 just to kind of go over the the Articles and everything for the day and be in session during temp want to make sure I thought that was the case anybody have any questions and that would be I'm sorry that would be in the staff dining dining Lounge um off the cafeteria I'll add that to my email too just to remind people I'll try to get that out tonight to the committee so everyone remembers thank you all right any other questions no all right retirements Mr chy I have three retirements to share with you uh first we have Martha Eno South Elementary School second shift custodian she'll be here through September beginning of September uh she'll be retiring after 25 years also we have an Marie Ross from mant elementary school our library media specialist who will have completed 26 years and she'll be with us through the end of this school year and lastly we have Christine Morgan Dr Campbell already referenced uh 31 years uh in miss schools on a variety capacities and she'll be with us through uh towards the end of August uh but we'll have some transition time as we go through the process of bringing on a new uh principal about 31 years and she'll be here through August long time Mr Pano yeah these are some big one so on behalf of the district th school committee I'd like to thank these um staff members for their 82 combined 's um service to the district they will be sorely missed it's amazing all right our next piece we have is a new part that we're going to have as a reoccurring we have our um because Mr Morgan we appointed he's our representative to the master planning committee so we're going to have that on every meeting so that he can give us an update so Mr Morgan I know you've had a couple meetings right one or two um we've had a coup we've had a couple um we've uh met to kind of organize and get our game plan together we've interviewed um different companies in regarding to assist us with developing the um master plan we've U made our recommendations so now it's in the bid process so um next meeting we shall hopefully have someone on board to assist us in the Journey of developing this plan thank you anybody have any questions for Mr Morgan thank you for being our representative I know it's a two-year commitment so we really appreciate that um all right now we have school committee m reports does anybody have anything they want miss saory me and you I know um just a couple things um this past Friday we had a virtual exchange with shig Gama uh it was at 8 o'clock at night um but it was 9 o' in the morning for them um and it it was great most of our uh students that went this summer were in attendance as well as one of the teachers uh as well as the host families and they started out with two truths and a lie we had them send it to me ahead of time so that it could be translated and ren made some great little uh slides for it uh it was a lot of fun um and then we also were put into break breakout room so we could just chat uh you know they asked questions about school um somehow we got on the subject of you know Tech which was mindblowing to them with what we offer for our students I think it was very unusual for them so I think if they come or when they come this summer maybe we could work that in into the program um and it was just it was a really good nice friendly conversation it was nice to see everybody again and say hi and that was great um so that was the one thing and then I also wanted to I think maybe hopefully we can do a more formal thank you but I'd like to thank the Rotary Club for making a donation to the students that went to shisham this summer so they'll be getting a little bit of a refund I know it's took a long time to get that I know Mr blazedale has been looking and we've been looking for it for a while but they've got it so I'd like to you know thank everyone at The Rotary Club we had two members go and present before um Violet Luke and Jonathan bird and they both came back afterwards and presented to them and I think that the Rotary Club was very interested in that they had a lot of questions so it was really good so that was that and I don't know if everybody saw Jason Jason Frasier's letter that he put on social media about the school budgets and the state of our budgets and it's in line with what we've been discussing so if you haven't seen it yet I can share it but I also sent him an email and asked him if he had it in letter form so that we could share it with our select board as well as our legislators because I think that that came up a little bit in our joint meeting of what we are doing on the legislative level to help with the budget um and I also asked him you know it's great that it's on social media but what are you doing with that yeah you know because we did not get it in an email letter we just saw it on social media so I did ask you know what masc is doing with it so that way we can follow up with it yeah that do you want to read it oh I I have a would you want me to read it I just know if that like for context for people who haven't seen it I took it off do you want I can meet it to you um it's a great letter but again we need to need more follow up on it and we all follow up it says a note from Jason Frasier I'm very concerned about the conditions causing regionals to dip regionals and you know everybody else to end in order to offset increases for their operating budget and the number of M municipalities utilizing free cash and maxing out their Levy to avoid catastrophic Cuts this year I see fiscal cliffs being created all over the state in hopes there will be a massive influx of state aid in fiscal year 26 overrides are on the rise predictions are that there will be far more next year just to preserve Staffing levels in our schools Chapter 70 inflation index needs to be adjusted for fy2 and we need a legislative commission to study special education funding funding in the Commonwealth now yes so I just I think the reason I wanted to bring it up is so that we know that you know we're all in the same boat here and I think that you know there's strength in numbers and hopefully I'll can get this in a letter and we can share it that's great and that's that's it for me thank you I think that's great thank you for sharing that because when I read it I was like this is what we've been saying this is literally what we've been saying yeah it is but I would love to I I it needs to be an action item nope I think so too I love that you Jackson did you have something uh I I was out of commission for no that's right weeks but I did make it to pcis for their starbooks uh and that was amazing they did a really good job they had uh all the students present like the books that they had created in teams and groups and I got the opportunity to go around and see a bunch of them and there were some really interesting topics there a lot of uh a lot of really smart kids over there cool well thank you for coming to our um joint the SOI vote without you and then miss Savory like getting in her car racing over we wouldn't had a quum so I appreciate you being there with your 102 temperature I mean that was above and beyond so we are very grateful for you helping us with our Quorum um for that vote so thank you anybody else have anything they wanted to report well I have a couple things I know we're all shocked at that um I just wanted to say thank um Dr Kimbell and Mrs Jackson for their work and putting together that or being part of and putting together legal Women Voters panel that about our tax dollars and where they went I thought it was really informative it gave us a really great opportunity to kind of talk a little bit about budgets overall and I you know they put together this really great um handout that I meant to grab extra copies for everyone CU I thought it was really well done so that people can understand like where does your dollar go and how does it kind of get um kind of broken down I can uh scan this and then share it with everybody but it was a really great event I think it has been since our last meeting I can't I believe it's been a lot so you know and then and thank you to all of you who attended caucuses I know we have a number of caucuses left to attend this week um but we've been really I think I think there's only about two caucuses that we haven't been able two or three that we haven't been able to attend and you know that I know that members of Staff have attended them but we do have a couple that are on school committee nights that nobody has so but do thank you so much for doing that I've attended some of the copc meetings to make sure that um then I think I think the budget was well received at the copc meeting um and then the I was at the town meeting preview meeting last week yeah I don't know Thursday yeah I don't know they all run together today I was like what day is it is it Friday no it's Monday um um and so that was really well received we were able to again remind people like the drivers of our budget and what's causing that uh but and you know I'm excited for our our video we're going to show at town meeting this is going to be the best video out there um and and for town meeting again 7:30 I know we already talked about that um and then um thank you again to everybody who put together the ELA uh curriculum virtual meeting so thank you and I look forward to seeing where we go from here to get continue to share the information and continue to get parent involvement and you know answering those questions that we all get yet um so thank you for putting that together and then um I had the opportunity reading at Miss Mrs Martin's class over over across the street and I I tend to read the same books I think this is probably like the third or fourth year that I've been going to her class and um it was really great we I read um a book about um my gosh what's it called she persisted and I same I read the same book every time I go and this year it seemed to be like a different usually different things kind of arise and it was funny to kind of it ended up that we were talking about things that women didn't have rights to do and one of the kids um I can't remember who it was um about the fact that women didn't have credit cards or they couldn't get their own loans until 50 years ago and things like that and was just his mind was blown and Mrs Martin was like as old as I am like people you know younger than me couldn't have didn't have that right and so it was it was a um it was nice conversation to have and kind of put in perspective how far we all have come and you know again we reminded the boys that it's not always easy to be a boy either or a man and so just because she persisted it he persisted too so that was a part of it he didn't want them to feel left out on that but it was a really nice afternoon that I I had an opportunity to spend with them and um even one of the kids from her class the year before came in at the end of school and we um chatted and he remembered like that he said that I had paid for the roof but that but that's when I was there they were working and we were talking about the roof and that that had happened and was like I didn't pay for it but I was like I did I wrote that check um but it was it was funny that you know you people you remember that connection which is really cute but that's all I have to share um for this evening um and now we have pouth building committee report Mr Morgan Mr I wasn't I wasn't there yes that's right confence no we we had uh we had just met at before our last meeting so we won't until next Thursday so yeah perfect all right and now we have Personnel reports Mr chopi uh yes this evening I can share with you one certificated appointment who you met earlier this evening uh we have one classified appointment uh we did approve one medical leave and we did receive two resignations okay thank you um does anybody have any unfinished or any new business they would like to share add to agenda moving forward no all right now I have the consent agenda does anybody have anything they would like remove from the consent agenda so I do I would and I've already talked to Kristen I'd just like to take January 25th and February 3rd out of um the consent agenda and I can bring them up after um but other than that that's the 11.2 um regular session minutes do I have a motion to approve thank you Miss Avery I move to approve the consent agenda with the proposed removal of the two items yes I have a motion do I have a second Miss Jackson thank you um I have a motion in a second do I have um sorry any questions on the motion I don't know what I'm doing no questions on the motion we can vote perfect that passes unanimously um that and then now we talk about things removed from the consent agenda and I just remove the two minutes or asked for them to remov so January 25th uh we didn't have a unanimous vote and so I just asked that we list the members and how they voted just so that that's out there I think that's important and then February 3rd um it didn't include in the executive session piece um who voted to go into executive session and so I thought that should be part of it um so those are my two pieces I don't know if we want to wait and see what they look like or if we just want to approve as a suggested changes it's up to the committee Mr Bano those seem like very straightforward changes so comfortable just yeah approving them perfect with with your recommended edits thank you so I have a motion do I have a second Miss saory seconds it uh and so any questions on the motion so there's okay can we do a vote or do we have to do a roll call roll call okay all right Mr Morgan yes perfect Miss Avery yes Mrs Jackson yes Mr Pano yes and I vote Yes so it is passes unanimously thank you um and then unless anybody has any burning desires or things to share um we can end the meeting at 8:42 on April 1st thank you all have a great night that e
