until a replacement for her role can be found but she's already began meeting with her phase one on U meetings with colleagues and her goal is to have meetings with every person in the organization in those first 45 days of the middle school that position by the way is a student support position that support special addend General ad which will provide Mr wara more time to work on instructional tasks at the middle level uh last summer uh Rockford Middle School sent four members to check and connect training as part of a right County grant program is best practice Intervention Program with built-in data collection tools originally created by the University of Minnesota and middle school will start that program with weekly check-ins for uh five designated students counselors have been working diligently to connect with students and families who are struggling academic during the first quarter of the year and the student support team has been creating interventions for those students who need additional support small group um conversation started on November 20th math team is reviewing a great curricular tool that serves as a crosswalk between the uh 2007 and the 2022 standards and those standards now will become full implementation in 2027 um we identified ELA teachers and principal wara is our next in line for redak training uh this marks the beginning of their redak Journey at the middle school and the team is very excited um between our October board meeting and this evening we have been busy in a number of areas instructionally our plc's have continue to work on their instructional Frameworks connecting standards to targets and adjusting their uh assessments to align with both in addition we are utilizing data in a very big way as a means to inform students of their own personal areas of proficiency and needs of growth our teachers are also utilizing data to better inform our instructional practices as we strive for continuous Improvement in all we do and for data collection we are using multiple measures including fast bridge and our new districtwide Adoption of I Exel which provides all students K12 with regular practice and Hands-On assessment based questions we've actually done some analytics on that already and it is really going well I'm very proud to see that our teachers have jumped on board with u with both feet uh we continue to assess our curricular resources and through this assessment it has cleared us that our procurement of literacy materials is vital to the success of our Learners to this end we've been in contact with a couple of different providers and vendors um and utilizing we'll be utilizing our teacher leaders to assist in the vetting process for these resources um our plan is to uh purchase train and Implement in the near future most likely summer to fall of 2025 and a similar process will need to be occurring in math U but to be very candid with Lord and those here um our limited Financial Resources um make both of these Endeavors much more difficult but I'm committed to making it work because it's really important for our teachers and most importantly our students also over the last several weeks we've developed and submitted MDR school year 2425 comprehensive achievement and Civic Readiness Plan and Report along with our achiev an integration plan both were shared with our curriculum instruction and assessment committee this past Thursday and both can be found on our web page on the tab underneath learning innovation in other instructional news we met recently with our community ad committee and had several fruitful conversations related to agriculture education as well as CTE Pathways in our district and we remain very thankful for this wonderful Community Partnership my calar has been full of a wide variety of events including meetings with our educational Partners at saf Masa maso Northwest suburban and amsd and in addition meetings of our board facilities and policy committees I also attended the Minnesota school law seminar and our local APAC raise event which was last week and it was outstanding and the Rockford education Fall fundraiser that took place on Friday evening I also want to express a deep gratitude to all of the wonderful Partners um that play Such key roles in our overall success as we continue to work on our overarching marketing campaign called Advantage Rockford and more related to this will then be shared um as the calendar turns to 2025 lastly I'm pleased to share that I was able to attend the both the Lee and uh Awards dinners with our wonderful teachers and support staff uh these individuals along with our tremendous colleagues make our district uh what it is and their work with students is truly something special and I got to mention last Wednesday was at snow day it was quite an adventure getting up to St Cloud with jack knife semis but we got there and it was fantastic um and I'm really proud of our support staff and our teachers who received those wonderful Awards and that concludes the November superintendent report excellent thank you Dr R if there are any questions for Dr R very good uh thank you so much for for all of your efforts helping our our district um moving on then we will ask Mr Dan Pratt with the fall activity celebration thank you very much for having us tonight uh as you see we have kids here representing nine different activities and I believe two of them will have videos and the other seven are here I don't know anybody here from the musical all right perfect we weren't sure we're going to get a musical person what a great weekend we had for the musical uh very well attended beat last year's attendance by a little bit so that was exciting awes but I'm not going to take a lot of time this all about the kids and and their experiences and we try our best to make sure they have great experiences and you know sometimes they have very successful seasons and sometimes we have learning Seasons so um this year we were mixed in the fall fall went fast but most of all I think these kids had a good time and made memories and and things that they'll remember for a long time so I'll have the kids just introduce yourself tell what sport you're representing just give us a little brief uh history or rundown of the season um my name is Ruby Gord I'm representing cross country and the boys and girls team were achieved a academic achievement with gold status for both teams with the boys cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.8 48 and then the girls of 3.82 two nine of the 14 athlete grades 10 through 12 were all conference academic and then five seniors were honor with six Year awards for participating in Cross Country for all six years I'm Conor and I'm representing cross country seven tural athletes achieved All Conference honors which tied the scho record in 1999 and 2000 Ruby Maya will Grady Kaden Colton and I Conor five boys is All Conference TI record from 1997 all seven Runners were all conference or honorable mention boys team won the right County Conference Championship for the first time since 1995 and the first overall boys Conference Championship since 2009 in the central Minnesota Conference I'm Grady I represent cross country the boys team finished second at the section 6 qualified for the state need for the first time since 1999 the boys team was 10 atate teams the boys team won three meets we're second at four meets and third at two meets [Applause] and um my name is Tim H I'm here representing football uh we came off in 8-2 record the previous year and this year we finished three and six um we had four turning starters so it was a lot big learning curve for a lot of guys and um yeah uh my name is I'm also here representing football uh with the season not going exactly we planned record wise we were able to get a lot of younger guys in which was good for them and we had a few people get up there with our records with yards and and stuff like that this season so even though it wasn't a great record season we had some good individual stats uh Max Edwards for football like they said we didn't necessarily have the best record we did last year but one thing I'll say this year is that we had probably some of the best team chemistry that we've had in last couple years that I've been on the team so it's just really fun fun year yeah Brian I'm representing football as well and um on top of all the sports stats and stuff they're talking about um our academics were pretty good as well we had 12 12 athletes geted allence academic um which is a lot more than the past years um I'm also representing the band program um this year during our fall concert we featured all three High School bands and our flag team which has 11 girls in total and then um our jazz band season also included two high school jazz bands and the total enrollment for those are about 35 students and so far it's been a really experience as well I'm and I also represent the Paul program and for our homecoming we had approximately 80 students on the field performing with me and as the drum majors and then our our musical performance included grades 7 through 12 with Orchestra I'm also here um this year we had a very successful season we spent the year learning stunts and we have five girls try out for NCCA All State Side and two of which made it me and and then we also went to the St two clinic this year and where we learned the fight song Some chance and then new Sons yeah I'm Julia Jensen I'm also the cheer program and it was just like a really great year overall one of the best I'm I'm also here representing Che and it's honestly very like great my name and I'm theer we had about a 59 in one record which is better than our last year by one pie and this year our assistant DA coach went on Le we had to bring new coach and the girls left in the lot and it's overall been a really good season for everyone is to bond together and even if we got frustrated at Gams we would still just my name is we started rehe in September and even though we had a lot of seniors who graduate last year so we were kind of light on high scores this year we had some really good shows this Friday Saturday and Sunday and we had a lot of people come almost full house every [Applause] time name is Alan dur I'm representing Bo stalker uh we had a lot of younger kids thison although they had some knowledge of playing club we were able to build that off with our new coach we ended off with a score of 9 PR my name is Ben Danel I'm representing boy soccer as well and we're starting or they're starting Varsity soccer next year after having two years off because of just age and skill level so looking for see how that goes my name is Justin zi I'm here from J robotics uh we are currently in our offseason we went to an offseason competition in October we ranked fifth out of 24 teams and we ended up being the third playoff team captain and ended up finishing fourth in the playoffs we also have attended a couple different uh different learning days at the U ofm and at the metronic headquarters where we got to experience different career types learn about different things within robotics the high school robotics team has also spent their time coaching and mentoring the Middle School robotics team and and volunteering at their competitions I'm also a part of the pain Orchestra for the musical and as my fourth year doing it as a senior it was very fun and I'm really excited to see what what music will be next year watch all my friends do it again I'm representing the middle school robtics and in robtics just build a robot and tournaments it my name isan I'm representing robotics um so far we have placed 11th out of I think 21 teams and then we had kind of like a mock trial of what we would do like in an actual like f tournament CU these these tournaments are just practice tournaments basically had like a mark one and be placed I think third overall in that um I don't know how many teams were in that I think eight around we playd out of that and yeah uh hi I'm dere fires I'm our lead program on our Middle School on our seventh and eighth grade robotics team uh we've had a really great season so far we've gotten a lot accomplished um we've done a few different tournaments we've done so far overall we've done pretty decent at and overall we're just growing as a team together to grow throughout the season and D was going to tell us a little bit about leg League um I've also been mentoring the the fifth and sixth graders their LEGO League team where they build little Lego robots and they move autonomously like they Cod it to move all by themselves without controlling it I've been teaching them about 3D printing and like how they canti it in different tasks throughout Robotics and how they can uh 3D print themselves hi my name's Anna I'm a junior this year and I'm one of the best volleyball captains we came into the season with a pretty young team knowing that it was going to be a challenging year but that we had a lot of room for grow we spent most of the Season just learning how to play with each other toay positive and keep pushing no matter the outcomes of our games we had a few special events such as night Senor night where we got to recognize our one senior and big pink where as a program we raised over $600 for the side Out Foundation which does pren of research we also had a very loyal student section throughout the entire season that came to even our furthest away games it was super fun to always have our peers support and their cheering no matter how we were playing we're super excited to all go work hard during the offseason and be able to come together get stronger next season hey guys how we couldn't be there today uh we are representing the girls tennis team um from my perspective we had a great year uh it was my first year in the role that I was really proud of how we competed and I really enjoyed uh the team really proud of them the great group of students uh can't wait to uh coach them next year okay this year since we had a new coach really didn't know what to expect and really sure what was going to happen but we had High Hopes And they were next year we hope to be a our program and to compete at a higher level and have more opportunities to show off our skills and we hope to do even better next year yeah we take Rockets go rock [Applause] okay I'd like to just thank all the kids for being here and representing their Sports and understanding that in a typical high school you come up and you know you have a program that you're looking forward to being in these kids all got to do that I just want to call out the two gentlemen from soccer we had a varsity program two years ago our numbers went down so far these two guys Ben and Allan are seniors and they stuck it out and they stuck it out and they were tremendous leaders and I think that's what's really important about this school district is these kids whether it's the cross country team that has an amazing season if you ever been to a cross country meet they are a lot of fun and the the camaraderie between schools and kids it's it's really a neat thing and then you know got the football program that didn't have the greatest year but you know what they had a tremendous group of guys that got along great and had a lot of fun so it's bigger than wins and losses it's more about the kids their experiences I want to thank you guys for coming and thank you for having us we appreciate it I want to thank you Dan for leading our our programs um tremendous job and I want to thank the parents who are here tonight and also um all these wonderful young people who are participating in many and several different things um you are the epit of what we what we look for in in students and I'm super proud of you and and thanks for making time tonight on this Monday night to come and share your experiences it's it's the Highlight for sure for me three times Z get to see all of our activities folks and it's really fun so thank you for being [Applause] here what do we there's some Hardware here yeah thank you guys appreciate thank you parents [Music] build Rel all right Mr you get to follow move on to the High School principal's Report with the principal cover page here we go all right good evening everyone happy to present here uh about the beginning of the year at the high school already here in November it's hard to believe um so I've just got some high level updates for you tonight I'll share with you some of um my leadership goals that I work through and review with Dr Ry Luber periodically throughout the year um and how those duve tail into our school Improvement plan at High School uh going into this fall semester you know we received word from the state that we have to have a better handle on controlling cell phones and personal technology in our schools K12 um at the high school obviously we've set some things in place and actually that's going really well um and the Learners are learning and my favorite comment is I don't even homework this year because they don't they're not distracted by the device so um that's been probably the biggest culture change we've seen in terms of approach to the learning that our children have uh but in taking away their phones I was brainstorming what's going to be the biggest issue then and my answer was engagement so um in any social situation in many academic situations students will Retreat to their phone well when that's not an option we have to be engaging to the kids and so we talked a lot about active instruction we talked a lot about um making students active Learners and we talked a lot about um the science behind taking notes and while it might sound simple um I think there's a lot of assumptions that teachers make at the high school level about students ability to construct notes to take notes to review notes and then to refer back to the notes before an assessment they don't do that on their own and so we talked about explicitly instructing our students how we want them to set up the notes how we want them to take the notes review the notes and um prepare for a test with the notes and so it's Focus note taking it's one of the many Avid strategies that we've been working on implementing studying and making sure our teachers are following it with Fidelity that was our biggest goal um when we approached Workshop week uh and I'll show you some um data from that later on in the presentation we're also working behind the scenes on mapping our curriculum uh standards to our learning targets um and then also our uh assessments um I talk a lot about you know um becoming ID school around four years ago and now um I've taken on the role of the Avid District director for Rockford area schools which really means the high school because that's our only current Abit site and I've learned a lot through my training there over the last two years that really when you look at the high school the curriculum is the stuff okay and our curricular Focus as it ought to be at every magnet school is our magnet International Boral that's the stuff we teach um we've never really looked at a framework for how we teach the instructional framework and so in peeling back all this training at Avid Avid is the or ought to be the instructional framework and so I've been going into classrooms looking at what we do well and what we maybe need to have more of an intentional focus on and how that can look consistent for the student from classroom to classroom and that's really the power behind um these Aid strategies is it looks the same it feels the same you're doing the same stuff it might be a different focus on content um but the students are familiar right it's a familiar Playbook is what I keep telling the kids um we're doing intervention work right now that's our 90day Focus right now as we believe it or not enter into the final months of the first semester so helping students recoup some learning um getting those grades up and making sure that they're ready for final exams and then our Avid School live work as I mentioned some of the events that uh have occurred outside the classroom our theater students went to gustavis adula for high school kids um at the theater night um and then they also went to the children's theater in Minneapolis to see the Grinch so they're out and about watching live theater some of them for the very first time so that's been really neat to to see that happen our student leadership team uh Under the Umbrella of Justin's Renaissance started their monthly challenges last month last month was why you're awesome month and in meeting with them uh teachers submitted quick notes just kind of noticing little incredible things that our kids are doing and the students decided they needed a creative way to deliver them so I hosted a couple of origami afternoons I folded them up in little shapes and some were better than others and then I delivered them to the students uh we had our career fair I we had uh roughly um 70 vendors um in Tech schools and local businesses our College uh and a night your future field trips so there was a uh a trades and um uh me technology career Focus that our students went to they're also going on multiple college visits as well that's optional for students we have students create art on our windows for Native American history month this month of November um we had our community project which will you'll learn in the IV update involved many of our sophomores and juniors and seniors from NHS and we launched our personal project as well um we had fall conferences we've been engaging in uh Multicultural Cahoots at different focuses of different months we've had concerts as was mentioned by the students and much much more so in looking at my leadership goals uh under the student achievement and growth strategic Direction uh we wanted all of our syllabi to look similar so we have a common syllabus template that's done in looking back at um the consistency of that charge about 46% of our teachers completed the syllabus correctly yeah so um we want to boost that up to 80% this year and we're we're right around on Target and we still have to review some of the the elective courses on that we will uh abide by our schoolwide rule which is um a teacher can have up to 30% of the grade um marked by formative assessment and then 70% or higher using summative assessments again preparing them for um a possible postsecondary education where most of that is all summative assessment and so I'm just trying to Gent and gradually release them into that next level of learning grade books are set up to reflect this practice we also notice too that um as teachers come from other districts they don't necessarily know how to set the grade book up to reflect those percentages so they do some odd Math not using Infinite Campus and it's not as reliable as the software um we've made some progress on there and we've got some future steps on the right hand side as well in healthy and supportive environment our student leadership team that I just mentioned and and adults support me um are monitoring the expectation we really want 95% or more of our students to feel connected and identify a trusted adult in the school in our fall surveys including my Sabers and our student connectedness survey which is run locally um 292 indicated that they have a trusted adult that they'll go to in the school and 35 said they didn't and so um in peeling back that onion we're going to explore more ways that we can reach out to this students who identified no um and it might just be kind of a Nuance of the way that the questions were worded so for example you know I look at my statistics that they were really high in I know my principal and I feel comfortable going to him with a question and then the next question was I would report a problem to my principal and that was like 40% lower so they know me but they're not necessarily going to voice problems um that they're noticing or having um progress and future steps are noted on the right there as well um community school and family Partnerships so um we need to be working with local Partners particularly in our IB career pathway offerings and providing those real world connections whether they're oneoff field trips whether it's um experts from the field coming into the school or whether we're truly partnering um for a lasting CP pathway we're going to continue to provide certification we're looking at articulated college credit options and the IB performance credit options we're provid we are to provide at least six career Pathways for students or as many as the budget allows by the 25 26 school year and that is the charge within our state funded Grant um again we're receiving roughly $25,000 a year for that for three years and this is year two of that gr progress indicated there and then um next steps as well our culture of collective purpose simply to incorporate more Avid strategy IES I believe that when teachers purposely frame and instruct note taking strategies students can demonstrate strong notetaking revision and review skills the student success rate Will Rise um we don't have fall grades yet I'm anxious to see uh how much this Focus note taking and real time formative feedback uh helps raise the percentage of students that are passing classes in the form um this will be measured by comparing the failure rate of each grade check in the 24 25 year versus the uh versus last year additional 90-day plans will be implemented this school year as time and competing initiatives allow in order to further operationalize the Avid College and Career Readiness framework at Rockford High School I don't expect you to know what that is so there's a slide later that shows you what that is um excuse me so we've got plans and every meeting has a purpose and you can't always say that in every organization so um we plan using our built we plan using our IB pedagogical team and that informs our all saaff meeting um we uh will meet with new teachers on select Wednesdays to make sure that they're able to implement and understand all these acronyms that I just gave you um our we I we did a survey on student Focus note taking we asked them how do they think it's going um and so I have some data on that as well we we went through some exemplars of student notes and so what was interesting there is we kind of told teachers bring kind of your best couple of examples of student notes and bring some that you think the student struggled um or that they're not as robust and that has informed really rich discussion about what it is we do when the students are taking great notes and how we can sort of transfer that into their peers and how it is that we can intervene when they're not taking thorough notes or refusing to take notes and what does that conversation look like so we're kind of sunsetting the focus on Focus notes and again as I mentioned we're going into sort of those tier 2 interventions okay the students struggling maybe they're at around that 50% mark what do we do what's our next touch point to try to boost that students achievement um so great interventions for semester one as we head into semester 2 what a great time and I'll show you on the College and Career Readiness framework uh I think we all know that the stronger the relationship between a student and a teacher the harder that student's going to want to work for that teacher and so underneath all this work that we're trying to do we cannot forget that we have to create sincere relationships with students and advocate for them that's our Focus January through March March through June yet then another pillar of the College and Career Readiness framework is insisting on rigor and let me back up it's also first defining what we think rigor is it's not just more work right it's meaningful work and it's active thinking and so we're going to work on defining what we think rigger means at Rockford high school and how do we insist on it now that we've built that relationship how do we push them forward and so so those are our focuses through the rest of the school year in terms of the culture for Collective purpose this is the framework so you have um sort of four foundational blocks in Gray there's an instructional component you have to have strong systems a strong culture and strong leadership once you have those you can then build the Pyramid of College and Career Readiness that yellow layer is the base layer we need relational capacity we need to build relationships with students we need to build relationships among students so the classroom feels safe for everybody once we've done that the kids feel like they can work they feel like they can ask a question they feel like they can admit I don't get this and then work from there and the Educators bring that dark blue base of the pyramid they insist on rigor they break down barriers of students for learning might even be internal barriers I've never been good at math for example um and how do we break down that barrier we align the work with what it is that um other uh initiatives are asking us to do and how do we make that fit into college of career Readiness and we advocate for our students even when it's difficult to advocate for them because of a personality class then our students learn student agency they can advocate for themselves they know how to plan they know how to organize they know how to be ready to learn opportunity knowledge they know exactly what options they have leaving high school and I gave um some students in the Avid classroom I went and spoke with the nth and 10th grade avid 11th and 12th grade and I said my opportunity knowledge about college was almost nothing right the the two schools that were on my short list my brother went to and one of his high school friends I don't want that to be our kids and the way that they approach the decision- making about next steps so we need to give them U knowledge about the opportunities that exist and again those Community Partnerships and the growth of the CTE program and the CP Pathways so important because we don't want them to think there's one answer if they don't fit then they don't have options and then finally um rigorous academic preparedness okay we need them to believe they can learn we need to push them to learn and we need to prove that they have learned once they've achieved that this is uh the student responses to the focus note taking survey in the spring um and overall very positive I think we've got about 67% of kids in that four or five range that are kind of self-grading the quality of their notes they really believe theying a good job um and then of course um uh a far number of them are saying they're okay they gave themselves a three um and then how useful are their notes I think that's a much more important question for preparing for and completing test quizzes and projects and uh we're in the 75% with a four or five and most of the rest of them are a three so I think the students you know judging by the graph are also recognizing the value of if I take good notes I don't have to rely on my memory and I can use that as a tool later to help me prepare for the exam are they taking notes digitally or handwritten mostly all handwritten um some students choose to use their Chromebook but a lot of them are flying through the notebooks and my favorite thing is they're like taping handouts into the notebook so they don't have the notebook here and the folder somewhere under the bed right all the content is in one spot that's good it's very research based too there's been a recent research how tying much higher learning to handwritten notes than type notes good yeah yeah and they prefer that actually because we're doing this all day and our stewardship of resources we're looking to closely monitor spending Staffing allocations budgets to remain within the total budget projection outlook for this fiscal year um we're making some progress and then um of course up next we're going to be registering in December so we're going to have to prioritize the electives that we offer we won't be able to offer everything that kids want but we want to be able to offer those that are most popular and most desired and then for our school Improvement plan so this is crafted by our Guild team um in standards learning targets and assessments so really that um academic piece uh each team and individual teacher will increase by a minimum of one level on the standards learning scale as measured in October January and May so teachers self assessed on this chart um where they think they're at in terms of their Acumen for following standards setting learning targets and crafting assessments and so if I believe that I am a two in standards my goal is to get to a three by the end of the year this is modeling differentiation student connectedness as I mentioned we want 95% or more of our students to identify a trusted adult in school and we'll have different ways that we gauge that not just let's give them that survey again in six months um I'm going to be keeping track of who the NOS were and then also just kind of gauging that um in an informal way you know who are the kids that might be sitting by themselves at lunch more than I'd like who are the kids that are excuse me feeling you know that they can only walk a certain way in the hallways those sorts of things um and then we'll be integrating some some things with feedback from our student leadership team on how it is we can help include everybody in feeling like they can go to a trusted adult and be a part of the school the Q comp site goal is that 30 students will show growth by decreasing their risk level or showing significant growth within the highrisk category from Fall to spring on the reading test and 20 students um will decrease their risk level or significant growth within high risk from Fall to Spring at math and that um all comes from a lot of complicated math behind the scenes that were done by our learning Innovation team here's your IB update um in our middle years program the 10th grade is the final grade of mli year program as a reminder all 10th grade students are working on their personal projects as unique and interesting as they all are and our 10th graders participated in the campus Cleanup in October for a community project um so that was up at the stadium and down um at the the parking lot and in the curb um alongside countor 50 personal projects will be showcased then at the March parent teacher conferences so we'll have all sorts of disc displays of student work in March uh in our diploma program we do have two full diploma candidates for the fall involved in several activities football B basketball baseball band NHS um and so it's a fewer students than last year but quality students and uh we hope that they're successful in their quest for the diploma but we also have roughly uh a similar amount um of students taking exams as we did last year we've had 65 students taking 175 exams um and 25 of them begin in April 29th and last through May 21st so testing season will be heavy again at the high school this year CP in the career pathway we have six candidates for this year um again we have the uh continuation of the grant for two more years um we're creating looking at creating new Pathways um that's part of course proposal for this evening a craftsmanship pathway where um students can either specialize in construction Woods or welding um in looking at kind of the Staffing and the FTE of that department um we'd really like the students to have the option of which to pick instead of um putting all their eggs in one basket as it were we want students to be able to take Woods or welding and then that would end in OSHA safety certification which would actually help them if they're whether they're going to a technical college or into the workforce they can jump onto that job site day one um education is a second pathway that we are Ing and then the Arts where um we're looking at theater we're looking at production we're looking at some journalistic elements there as well and that is my principal update any questions for Mr manard question yes Miss Edwards so with the IV diploma candidates um like you said that they dropped this year from like what did you have six or something like that fish last year um looking at your junior class coming in do you know like is that going to build back up again or is it also at risk for being another low enrollment year do you have and if you don't know that maybe that's a followup but that's just like my blink on like is there is there a thing or is it just a bubble it's I think it's going to e and flow okay um I know that it's um at least as many as we had last year I believe it's more currently but I'd have to check on the exact number but it is higher than past Year's and and definitely higher than this year in the ji class okay yep great thank you I think we've got and as you said roughly the same amount of tests I think you've just got less students that were interested in the whole thing this year and what do you think the barrier for that is generally um it depends on the student I think some of it is um kind of that it seems very difficult um it could be talking to some past participants in the program uh it could be that they're apprehensive about writing such a long extended essay you know sometimes especially our math and science kids get a little itchy about that um but I always tell them you can start by try we can peel back things that aren't working for you as you go um and so I think another another reason might be you know being involved in all those activities um I might know where I want to go to college already and I might really be interested in that high level math and biology and then try to get those credits to get a jump on those specific courses got it thank you I have a question but first a comment I really appreciate how you went through the Strategic plan and how you organized this presentation thank you very much has it's so organized and helps me refer back to the plan and where we're all at as a district so thank you I really appreciate that and you mentioned education so I was wondering like what part like what would they get certified in or trained in or where would they go in education if that became one of them yeah so um when I look at CP I look at College Bound and non um and I think we have to have a way to make it advantageous for both them especially a school our size so when we look at education we're looking at an intro to Ed course we're looking at um some time logged in our elementary and middle schools so for some field experience right um and then we would look at uh prepar preparing them for entering an ed Department in a four-year University or preparing them to take the par proo test to be able to qualify and become a par professional that's what I was hoping you were going to say grow your own thank you you answered that ding ding ding thank you and also I would Advocate the same program could me maybe prepare them to be personal care providers because we are under a huge deficit in that area that's a great Point thank you thanks yes M question um the CTE classes that you're adding and you have grants right now to implement them um going forward in the future like are the GRS paying for bigger things that we need to acquire or I'm just wondering budgeting wise how the fall off of those grants is going to affect that's a great question so right now the state budget isn't covering the cost of any equipment what it is covering is almost entirely the fee to be an IV school okay and so that's the question that need's answering is where does that fee payment come from Once the grants sunsets um I mean we'll continue to try to apply for the three-year Grant as we go but we have to have answer that question and then one more uh comment maybe the personal project showcas is during parent future conferences do you ever put that out in any I think it'd be cool for community members to see some of those some of those are just really cool yeah and to see what our students are doing and I mean even even younger like me I don't have any high school students so I wouldn't think to go but I want to see some of those yeah I don't know why we couldn't open it up to the entire District the entire Community for that matter um and that's something that we can explore maybe expanding hours so that it starts at 2:30 and goes through conferences that's a good idea and I would I was sorry I was just going to say Middle School it'd be really cool to get middle schoolers like seventh and eighth graders in there to to see that so they have a idea going into high school what it what it is yes I that' be really cool well and also just use this as a marketing boy like get somebody to write an article about it or to highlight it in whatever mode we can you know um that's a good point because our we we consult with a ib coordinator at a very large Twin City school and when our uh myyp personal project supervisor Kathy Matson uh was just sort of casually yeah all 12 six of our sophomores did the personal project you could hear her gasp on the other end because they have about a 20% participation rate every soft she does not let them not do a personal project and the variety and everybody's in right so what's your personal project what are you doing can you be my case study you know and so it's really also kind of galvanizing the the 10th grade class as well I think we need to kind of brainstorm how we could build this into a community event so thank you no and and I appreciate that cuz remember when this first started right it was how do we embed this for all of our children not just a set so that that's a credit to the staff for for embedding that into what the fabric of what those courses are so appreciate that next question I know those tests cost a lot of money I know IB costs money every year to be a part of right all this other stuff can you remind us again I mean yeah money money money right but can you remind us again approximately how many Northwest Suburban students do we have coming to the district with our integration Grant to help pay for IB uh we're at we're at a little over 20% of our total student population so um you know doing doing the rough math I think it's over 300 kids so and and that and we're just at the high school though right so 20% about 600 kids at the is sh or 550 at the high school 20% of that right at $10,000 a student is a substantial right it may cost us but it is an important idea to keep these things moving forward 100% because that's a lot of Staff 20% of our staff then is being reduced as well if we lose 20% of our kids right that's correct so that's correct okay um just a couple of things number one um thank you for your leadership you know I looked through this you know and Paul and I you know we met here I a couple weeks AG went through his goals and they're intentionally all designed all the principles goals are are designed through the Strategic plan directions they're allign design that way um and as I look through there you know I see two things that really jump out at me uh the first one is um this Focus laser focus on academics um which is something we're really working hard um and also the focus on connecting kids because I think they go hand in hand and and the second thing I want to or the last thing I want to say is wow I mean you look at this this this presentation um all and the work that you and your team have done um it just gives me chills from the beginning of the school year it's it's incredible um and and every one of those dots is hours behind it and um I'm really really thankful for you and your team and what you're doing at high school so thank you thank you highly capable colleagues thank you Mr appreciate you taking this off and and we'll see how you land it at the end of the year I get it sorry had to do it had to do it all right all right uh then Rockford High School courses correct yes very good um up for Action tonight is uh request to offer new courses and those are up top here so it's a total of five new courses Advanced acting stage and Screen um so we have we had a musical theater course on the books last last fall and we had nine students register for it so it didn't run this year and then with Staffing ch es we um borrowed some of the FTE from the elementary school theater teacher and she said well I want to do that theater course and I said we don't have enough students to run and about a week later she had 24 students in the course never so she did the same thing again and wants to run Advanced acting in the spring um uh also she is very interested um group six out of the six subject areas for the full dep group six is the Arts and we are not running an Arts course this year for the DP um and so we need to look at possibly having more in the pen so to speak and um Alicia was very interested in um exploring the idea of running DP theater SL a note on that you're not only approving that course um by approving that course you're also um giving the green light for U some expenses for training um and so we would need to send her somewhere to get trained to teach DP theater this school year um we do have funding set aside to be able to do that U but just so you're aware instrument lab is um for students who may be new to the game of um band and they might want to try band out in 10th Grade but they have no background in learning instruments so Mr ferdi would work with students to learn that instrument or learn an additional instruments I'm a percussionist but the flute really interests me he would work with them during instrument lab and they would work through um song books to become better vers in that and then they would have kind of a little concert at the end of the year of what they've learned in their new instrument scientific discoveries is a science elective that we would look at um the astronomy elective is something that we don't know if we'll be able to run again because of the change to the nth grade stand now it's Earth and space science and so it' be kind of like a Bad sequel um and so we're looking at replacing that with uh scientific discoveries which is about um Innovations throughout the timeline of Science and then of course um that intro to education uh basically created a pathway for students to um engage in study of education and then we would reactivate horse and horsemanship and change the name to horsing around and uh uh one of Miss pinkerman passions is um equin science and horses and so um she's really excited that we're going to be putting that in the books at least and really trying to run it um next school year and uh that we'd be able to do that the other thing I want you to realize is um accepting that in to education and adding articulated credit would be budget neutral because we're not running uh astronomy and CIS anal science is not running as well due to the changes happening in that department said no go first say something um so you you are retiring two courses right on the bottom y budget neutral um adding three right have are there other courses other course offerings that warrant retiring probably okay just one I because you know the catalog is is lengthy right and there are things that run seldom if yes right okay just and then as that goes that's not an FTE allocation that's just an opportunity for kids to go through registration and see if you have enough to run and pick and pull from other things and I think part of that um sh Gordy is we've had so much Staffing turnover that they're so new since we register in December they're so new that they don't know what what would be popular and so they're hesitant to remove courses because they just found out where the staff bathrooms are where there's no course there though no no course there but they're becoming familiar with the school and so they don't necessarily know the nuances of the offerings in their Department Miss Edwards you had a question I did so I had the same type of question is as you but then I have another followup with like so Cas animal science so college and the school were sunsetting a college in the school's opportunity for various reasons right so have do you feel like we have enough CIS program offerings in the high school for to continue that differentiated value that the high school offers like I mean you know like I just look at it okay one's off the board like do is there another one that needs to go on the board for a CIS opportunity or yes I just couldn't put it on here because we don't we have to have further conversation with superintendent but intro to education would be partnered with st okay cool I'd like to jump into and I shared this a little bit today with some folks um one of the things as you may know I you know in my previous position as principal and assistant superintendent MSU which is an early college high school system um I started there there's been some changes um via the legislature and statutory changes around you know weighted grades and how psco works and all of these things and you know and reflecting a lot on that in the last couple of months is um we do lose kid the PSO and my goal is to give them every reason to stay and not go and so I I've got some meetings set up um with some folks who know even more than I do around this process to see what we can do to offer more um college credit courses concurrent enrollment so our kids can get all of those college credits without leaving the confines of our schools so that's on the docket um there's some challenges around it like there always is is um mostly around credentialing and um having Masters or 18 credits in field but I know some workarounds and we're going to play with that a little bit and make some connections and the the biggest component of that is um and we've started this conversation with Paul myself and Samantha and Jill is how do we do that with the size of system we have because as chair Gordy mentioned we're we're not going away from IB um but there's ways in which the schools already in they're braiding those courses together so it isn't choosing one or the other it's choosing choosing to be a college credit student choosing to be an IB student um and there's some work that's going to be taking place there but um we want our kids to have the biggest jumpster they possibly can can have when they leave our schools and to bring more college credit courses into our buildings so kids want to stay here and take those classes is is good for everybody so um those conversations are just just uh at the outset right now but they're happening um didn't know you going ask that question tonight but I wanted to jump in and because we've started talking about that already awesome that's so good to hear thank you Mr Johnson just a thought in my head here because we kind of discussed this earlier but um off of that it's with PSO and um kids choosing to do that rather than staying right and with our career Pathways and some of those kids are going for those types of things so they're when they're done with high school they're done with their two-year degree and they can step right into um do we do any Outreach to kids that are looking at going to PSO can we like meet with them and even their parents and discuss what we're offering in the school to try to keep them from so they can see like you can get your CNA like by staying here and you don't need to drive so many miles to get it out here you can actually get it here at the high school and not have to leave the district to do that like just showing them kind of some of those other possible thing like are we doing any Outreach like that with those or is there an option to do that yeah so we we publish all the different ways that they can save money on scholarships that they can save money with college credit that they captured um we continue the importance of them coming to the curriculum Fair every year um I think we got to catch some CER uh and this might sound you know way out of left field but like Upper Middle School oh for sure you know I agree with you AB that's that's where the conversation needs to happen because by the time they come to curricul Fair on December 10th they've already made up their mind right well I kind of have a feeling some of them it's already embedded at home yeah like this is what your plan will be this is what you're going to do without knowing we have this option you don't have to do this like we the school is providing this and you don't have to so I don't know if there's a way that we could reach out to those got to be we'll keep trying so y good suggestion any other questions for Mr V just like comment one more do one more comment it just I mean having been a part of this for a while now it is super impressive like to look at all that the high school has to offer from a academic perspective and for to see that accelerates with the career program and everything in the last four years I mean it's just it's unbelievable and then you dub tail that and couple that with all of the kiddos that were here representing so many things what a well-rounded opportunity you're offering in the high school so thank you and um also just again back to your previous update on the connectedness it matters and um just as a healthc care professional um thank you for that M Johnson was there one other thing you were going to ask no I'm writing it down and I'll very good it does need to be here and at CIS I truly appreciate because any kid that we can save from going PSO is a substantial savings to our district for not having to do that so I don't think people understand the the financial impact on our district so thank you appreciate it all right now we will move on then to our healthy and supportive environment in the Sandy Hook promise and Mr kenet come on down hang on can I remove that yep I need to uh go backwards in instead um before we move on yep yep before we move on I need to go back and my apologies for this uh we do need to have a approval for the courses um are out there so you had heard the presentation from Mr Menard and and the courses that are available uh for our students thank you for that information I would appreciate iate a motion uh to I'll make that motion to approve the 2025 26 rhs courses as proposed uh by Mr manard this evening thank you Miss Edwards there's a first and a second a second thank you Miss Johnson a first and a second any further discussion all those in favor signify by I opposed that carries unanimously and now we can move on so caught up in just the good stuff that was happening oh olizee for that all right Mr kenet you're up now awesome thank you thank you for having me tonight just a little very quick um briefing on the healthy and supportive environment this is not something that I usually sit in this chair and talk about so just a little brief uh reason why as you know I've been involved in Insurance in the district and doing the insurance applications and stuff since I've been here uh we we've done a lot of work uh to bring us up to this point in the sense that uh again with all the insurance work and the mandates that go along with the insurance and we've been able to incorporate most of those mandates seamlessly into our culture uh part of it would include like the mandatory training for the second or third year in a r now we've assigned manator mandatory training to all uh staff and this year we have like 98.5% compliance by the due date the ones that worked in compliance was the ones who just started working here so a lot of Kudos goes out to all of the leadership to push that training and to get it done uh we had a fire marshall visit once in three years and we had more than 70 violations for our health and supportive environment uh the crew uh maintenance myself Mike and others were able to all of those violations out and gain full approval uh from the fire marshal in a secondary visit and they were all cleared right after right before school started and of course we started we got the staff handbook out early and we also revamped our emergency procedures uh through the health and wellness uh to get them out before school started as well so all that was well ahead of what we've done in the past and um and of course we have a safet Comm that has met already and they're on the docket to meet again and that has again through a lot of work with Mike and myself and Courtney has certainly helped us a lot in keeping us on track and getting the stuff out in time so one of the things that also occurred was uh the superintendent approached me one day saying hey have you heard about this and I said I will and so to say something is part of the hook promise and we've recently entered a contract with them into this program and if you recall San Hook was you know a dire event that happened about 10 years ago I think it was on December 14th so their anniversary is approaching and one of the good things that came from it is that the San Hood promise program or say something program came out and we have decided to partner with them and we've had our initial uh contracts and meetings uh with the various groups the the admin team the safety team or the wellness team and so far we have a lot of people on board just a very brief uh sandook has helped more than 31 uh participants Nationwide uh 700 and the planed school shootings is now I believe up to 17 and what they go by plan shootings is that there was an arrest made and a conviction so uh these were things that were actually averted and and Etc and the other part of course they helped pass the bipartisan sacred communities act uh recently all right so what is what are we going to do so we've started the um say something SS I should have put that up there but the say something Anonymous reporting system and it's again it's the uh through the the work of the sanog promise program they're going to come come down and they're going to help us uh create a website as well as their website they have an app available that people can use on their Chromebooks or or phones or Etc and there's also a 247 hotline that we'll be publishing out to staff and students why well it's it's going to the focus is to work on you know bullying suicide violence prevention self harm we're hoping that it gives that uh a tool to help the students or parents or our community just to help us uh with health and wellness and the safety of our schools um to kind of put it in perspective and discussions with the the group uh one of the questions or Focus was on oh how often is this going to be and with the size of our schools being around 500 students in each school they suggested that there'd be one significant incident a year which might be someone wanting to commit suicide or or I don't want to say violence but you know some event that might be like alter so this program is to help us to work through that get our counselors involved get the leadership involved so that we can effectively uh work with the students as well as build like what uh principal andard was saying those trusted adults and this is a program to help build that trusted adult relationship so again the focus is what I mentioned to you and uh We've started the training for staff we've defi uh We've defined our teams which I think is in the slide coming up and I'll just give you a second here before I move on and oh basically we're looking at this program would be the Upper Elementary like fifth grade and middle school and high school and what we've done let see there we go there's our teams so we've we've already made District special and school teams uh the district team uh is basically myself the superintendent Mikey at the district level and uh I the program lead to help get the program going uh specialty which is primarily the superintendent if there's something that Sandy Hook is vetted and when somebody call calls them or contacts them and there's something that is uh very pressing or urgent Dr R over would be uh the person who get the primary contact or the team the special team and then of course there's school teams which currently consist of the principals counselors and we have another staff person like a teacher involved with that uh the timeline you can see below we've already our first uh initial meetings uh currently we're working on our team training and building our teams and making sure that we've got the right people to do the right jobs uh from there we're moving to our additional training and long story short uh we're going to try and go live in the middle of January and we'll certainly have a lot of student training side of it down and our Communications and such down with parents and students in February and then of course the program would just be ongoing some of the benefits of course is to empower students to I hate to say the eyes and ears but I put it down we want to create you know an extra tool or an Avenue where students feel the need for themselves or something else that's going on this is an extra Avenue for them to contact trusted adult or an agency to alleviate their fears and to report it so again for violence bullying or mental health issues this is a program that will help our students with that Gap and of course we're hoping that it builds the additional collaboration between our students and our staff and our oursos so so again some of the challenges and solutions that this program is going to help us to um uh resolve is the overcoming the stigma around the reporting situations uh ensuring that we have adequate uh training and buy in from all stakeholders across the board and get that awareness and communication and education out and and then the active involvement of trusted adults and uh the potential to have what's called a promise club or an extra Club in school just to help is there any questions very brief yes thank you for uh unfortunate necessity y um is there so on your teams just notice there exclusion of a PSL is that purposeful uh SRO sorry police School a on sorry school resource officer is that is that not a inclusion for the SRO it depends on the incident and there's different levels you know if it's somebody having a mental health issue uh Sandy Hook vents vets the the calls and the issues and they verify that it's something and depending upon their criteria they will notify Dr R Hoover if it's something you know upper level uh if it's a school student who needs uh Mental Health Services of course the principal and the counselor will help them but if it is something that involves law enforcement uh the sros are aware of the program they will help us with the training and they've already been included as part of the special team so if there's an incident that Sandy Hook in their criteria says yep law enforcement should be notified then our SRO they have their numbers and their contact they'll also have the contact of right and Sheriff's offices so that if it does reach an issue say some kind of violent event that is pending they will be notified as well particularly if they can't reach us on an evening or a weekend thank you just want to make sure that partnership is they're involved excellent one question how much do all this cost you time time time but uh this is that extra layer that can't hurt thank than you so and then finally if you have a greater interest here's the basic website that you can certainly go out uh s promise.org or you can just Google sand Thomas and their website has a great deal of information that might answer some additional questions that you might have later on so thank you appreciate it any other questions for thank you thank you appreciate it thank you all right moving on then the rocket Spotlight for the superintendent's office Dr R yeah I've shared this a little bit before this is one of our goals for the year and you know I mentioned that I attended two recognition um Banquets recently U we have way more than just a handful of people to recognize every year and so we're putting this into play um the rocket Spotlight is going to be a recognition program for staff and and community members for that matter so you will see the very first rocket Spotlight award recipient in January um for the elementary school at Reams um every other month we will recognize another person March is the high school May is the Middle School Community M at large in July over the summer a district at large recipient in September and a community ad Early Childhood Galaxy uh recipient in November of next year so all this will start up in January so every other month there will be a recipient they are uh nominated by their peers through a Google form that's in a link on our website uh we already have multiple nominations out there and they will be selected by their um respective uh building operational leadership teams so their peers will be selecting from their nominations um and or program coordinators in that case maybe Melissa Cody Tiffany if it's somebody at the um community at Early Childhood Galaxy so we're super excited about this because we're going to be showing off more of our people and um ping more people on the back and really uh committing them for jobs well done so expect that to be happening starting in January excent any questions about the rocket Spotlight just a quick question how does the community nomination process work you know we haven't really got to that part yet generally speaking I think folks from within the district will be nominating community members um so it's open to anyone I mean you all could dominate people too um so that's really how that would work so it wouldn't necessarily be someone from the outside of the community nominated and it to be someone from inside nominated Community member on the outside thank you good question all good all right moving on then to stewardship of resources Mr mcnalty ask you to come up and we just a reminder for everyone that we did have a conversation at our work session uh to have a preview of this item and some good discussion as we move forward okay uh just a reminder for the Board of Public that um we're talking about the um monies that we're talking about today through ltfm and capital uh the reason for this is when we went out for a roofing bed here a couple years ago um the bids came in uh really high um almost million dollars above what we were projecting or to go with and so the school board decided to wait go back off the following year so 23 got some very favorable ones the costs had gone down and so with that we had some extra monies um because the bids came under the projected Bond monies that we bed against ourselves um so then at that sitting of that time in for the bonds uh money sits and can actually grow interest and so we had some very fav interest rates for that year plus and so we built up some extra monies along with the little bids and so we have about with interest and F about $1.5 million that uh have to be spent again there monies borrowed against our own monies we have coming in uh from the state so it's not B approved monies and so the facilities committee uh excuse me the board then T the facilities committee and administration to go out there and to make some recommendations on the fund spending uh because these funds need to be spent by next summer which is three years when they bonded and so our recommendation right now as I put down for you then is we have two main projects uh that we'll be looking at to complete this coming summer before the bond monies have to be spent about $900,000 to uh completely redo and pave the entire Elementary Bus Loop area around the entire north south and west side of the elementary and then also to resurface our track for another seven to 10 years as the estimated lasting along with the wind screens up there and that would total around $1.1 million uh that would be completed this summer and schedules and uh timings would be then completed here in the next couple months to get that going we'd be working with two groups one for each that would be State contractors so that don't we don't have to we go back out for uh bids for this um that allows us to to go forward because it's over $175,000 threshold that still does all that leaves about $400,000 which is predominant the interest monies that would be then tasked as the recommendation from the building and grounds to bring to the facilities committee and then to the board how we're going to do that over the next couple months because Administration is looking in some of the programs and things that need to be taken care of with those types of monies because Capital monies can only be spent on capital projects and ltfm can only be spent on building upgrades and so forth so um I'm bringing to you a recommendation to approve a payment project for the elementary area of about 900,000 that's going to be designated and then about just over 200,000 for the Tractor Service and windscreens and then uh we would move forward with getting that set up here in December and January so on that it's finishing off the paving that we need to do going around on the west side of the elementary up into the football field some safety and some safety issues um and getting our track up to speed getting it in in in in good condition uh for the next several years as well as some other fixes any questions or comments for Mr mcnalty I don't think so no we talked about it um yeah I would just Echo what Eric said and we talked about this in facilities committee it's finishing up what we started so you know getting rid of pot Pooles and issues on the back side of the buildings and whatnot um towards back of the elementary school um that's what we took out the abatement bond for uh was to do just that so nice that we can finish all of the things that we had originally set out to um and then just really uh trying to take a proactive approach in keeping uh surfaces safe for all that use them so again being proactive on that track surface uh so that we can continue to have um have that sa environment for individuals to use so yeah perfect nice to be able to do that thank you so much with that seeing yes have a question um so this is an action item I just want to be clear on what we would be approving it would be those two larger items and then the smaller items would be at the facilities committee level yes correct just list the cost of a couple things we're looking at just an idea yeah and I appreciate that I just wanted to make sure I mean one of them has question mark so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't yeah yeah looking at the two two large items the track and and the the paving thank you good question all right with that then I would appreciate a motion I'll make a motion to approve the facili recommendations of the Reams parking lot upgrade and the track resurfacing and wind screens excellent thank you Miss prasa there's a first is there a second I'll second thank you Miss hilstrom there's been a first and a second any further discussion see none all those in favor by I I I post and that carries unanimously thank you so much moving on to 8B our Levy discussion again conversation ensued at our work session and we will just have some conversation at the board meeting yeah it's going to be a very quick recap just for time considerations you obviously our capital projects technology Levy um was not successful at the general election on November 5th um we remained optimistic that we're going to be able to um provide our students and staff what they need to be successful however there will be conversations ongoing about the potential of revisiting this particular um ask to our community and just wanted to share with the community who might be listening um and huge audience we have here this evening um that we will be um having further conversations around the potential of a other lady excellent thank you so much any question or comment these objects don't go away right the we still have to to figure out a way forward and I appreciate the foresight to to have additional L listening sessions because we do have to provide so thank you appreciate that Miss Johnson please just another comment in our work session we did discuss our technology and what is now going to have to go away because we cannot fund it and it is concerning for our entire District to see those things um that have to go and so this is definitely a need we have we have to problem solve we have to figure this out it can't go away so Community needs to understand that this is very important and on top of some of those items were inability to replace some cameras some door security um Safety and Security objects were were Paramount inside of their as well as removing uh devices from the elementary school to to help our upper grades not replacing um the interactive boards in the classrooms which are a big part of today's world and education very important to have those things there's many things that are very important that um we're not going to be able to provide which is concerning for our kids thank thank you for those words and and other activities that since we can't afford certain things may cause our cyber insurance as well to go up for that premium so those things may happen all right on um the agenda item that we just had about the facility is uh funding that we have available again School financing is so straightforward but that's a very different bucket that you can pull from so you can only use it for things like parking lots or whatnot and what have you so building things so I just wanted to say that out loud because like it's a very natural thing to be like well wait a minute like what about that and unfortunately you know like that's you can only make choices on the certain things that that money can be used for that's just how the regulations are written so um yeah so there you have it thank you for those words very good uh we will then move on to the 8C 284 mou thank you chair Gordy as mentioned again in the work session uh we have um a agreement with our 284 group on anou to um extend additional compensation for our prayer professionals who um are riding our special education buses in the morning and in the afternoon at a rate of one and a half times their normal rate of pay um that mou also stipulates that if we cannot find um someone to ride that we may um assign someone to those routes and um this is uh important because there are specific liabilities around these vulnerable children on these these bus routes and we need to have appropriate supervision and assistance there when and if necessary so I'm asking the board tonight to approve thatou uh with 284 on the special education uh bus writing compensation excellent thank you so much any questions for Dr R hoer this is a regular action item so I'd appreciate a motion I'll make a motion to approve the memorandum of understanding between SEIU Local 284 and ISD 83 Rock schools thank you Miss Johnson there is a first and a second second thank you Miss Edwards there is a first and a second any further discussion seeing none all those in favor by I I I post carries unanimously 284 contract letter 8D Dr thank you chair Gordy this seems like a long time coming because we we finished this well over a month ago and um we were not able to get it here due to ratification timelines with 284 but I am pleased to share along with my colleagues here Ser on the negotiations team um that we came to an agreement with our local 284 group on a two-year contract that fits within the parameters set forth by the school board and it's been signed and ratified by that group and tonight I'm asking for the board to officially um approve that um that contract can I one thing yes um just let the you know and then other letting the staff know to that uh cend in our payroll should be running a special payroll just for the back pay for this contract this is this week's payroll for the normal month and then she's going to work on a back pay for next Friday's payroll and of course the Friday after that the next regular payroll so C's going to kind of wrapped out for a while but we have to get it done because open en then it's got to be completed by week after that so I'll be sending that out um Scott here is representing and his group I send it to him and S the rep so they can also let the staff know wow that's and and I would like to show my appreciation to to the the board members and and and the other team as well uh for your hours as well as the board negotiating in good faith yes for both sides because you guys did a good job so thank you so much uh with that any other further comments or discussion it's regular action item so I appreciate a motion I will make a motion to approve the uh 284 Master agreement thank you so much there's a first by Miss hilstrom is second second thank you Miss Edwards there's a first and a second any further comment seeing none all those in favor signify by I I I post and that carries unanimously thank you so much 8e substitute pay rate Dr Roper I'll pass it to Mr mcel Mr magalon so uh one of the items I looked at this fall as we discussed with Toc also last year is um our sub pay rates and I actually had a discussion with uh the principles uh earlier on this too um want to look to recommend a an increase when we have our house Bas Subs just get a little context the back one of that Dr R has asked us to just look at is do we want to look at just going inh house also in the future um but our rates uh have fallen below most of the ones around um and so when we look at having subs or looking to go down that road um with TLC too I would be asking for the board to approve an increase on the teachers pay per day presently at 155 a day to 162 a day um that then right now since we teachers on call will go there um so that just adds the pay for the people actually sub by $7 a day because right now they get the 155 the rest of the monies is TOC administrative fees that they do for doing the Bing and the calling and the setting everything up with the rest of that we also use Toc for some of our Paras and secretarial needs mostly the par needs and so what i' be looking to ask for is an increase in the rates of that and what I based it on I did a a reach out to U maso and mass fund members which is HR and finance across the area State asking what most of them look at what the rates um got a various of things but the main one is most people do it at 90% of their present contract lower level steps are step ones whatever they have in there and doing that for the fact of getting attracting the people into in a hard to find areas to get people to come in work um so our teachers on fall rate would then go up to the 1742 the PA rate because that's what our main part is there and that's 90% of our what be our low step one for the pairs and then the rest of the rates if we do get because we advertised but we never get any um subs for the other areas um that' be increased again trying to find a way to uh boost that because basically when we're short it's just everybody's grounding and filling in the positions so part because but just really also trying to make make do with what a lot of the schools around us are doing again 90% of our step one rates that's why I'm asking for the bar appr excellent so this will be an action item at the December meeting Miss hillstrom um do you know because I know we struggle to find Subs do you know what the parro rate is currently how big of a jump this is oh our present rate right now is 1515 that has not been changed for several years yeah the teacher was changed also I think it was the year before I got here that is 155 the board did I believe it I haven't asked since um so that's the ongoing right now and when would it go into effect if we approved it in December uh then I would look to set this up so teachers on call so looking to start this in January okay so then we would I mean impact on the budget will be there but minimal so shouldn't have to expect any budget good thank you so much we rarely fill those very good unfortunately all right then we'll move on any questions from Mr mcnalty on that this will come back in December very good then we'll move on to number nine culture of collective purposes with the CAC report Dr Ido all right thank you I'm G to try to go through this fairly rapidly just because it's getting a little bit late tonight and some of you have already seen this um this might be well likely is new herbage for many of you um comprehensive achievement and Civic Readiness or cacr we need another acronym this essentially is um the same thing as the what was the world's best Workforce there's been some changes that have taken place on that but it it's essentially that and on Thursday last week we had our U fall curcum instruction assessment committee meeting of which both um miss prasa and miss hillstrom were in attendance and so I'm going to go through this little bit we did wel of introduction with them and then we talked about what the comprehensive achievement and Civic Readiness Plan is which was actually number two not a second number one um and this is the state statute around that for those who are interested we need to share this um there's a lot of um very important dates and things of this nature so this report um the actual report this was posted on our website 30 days prior to that meeting actually about 40 days prior along with our achievement integration plan those can both be found as mentioned earlier underneath our learning Innovation uh website on a couple of tabs uh the purpose of that group is to review and advise the district on the plan for submission to um you all here at the board of education and which was also again submitted to the Department of Education again this is a new name uh for what essentially is the same thing with some small changes um the goals of the um the cacr again are very similar to the world's best Workforce um those top four things you'll see are um items that have always been on there um one thing you will notice is that we do not have a goal here around read well by third grade because that's no longer a goal as set forth by the legislature they want everyone to read at every grade and Miss prasa mentioned to me um after that meeting the reason why that was thir grade is if they're on track by third grade they're usually on track long term um but that is something we'll be looking at all the time that bullet that has a parentheses that says new at the end of it that one is again new by the the state and mandated under law with respect to Preparing students to be lifelong Learners this is something that is self-determined by respective independent school districts and we sent out um a Google form asking um for a rank order survey from our committee and we did come up with uh several things there and I'll show you those as we get to those towards the end um reporting requirements for this particular report they're all listed there again you've seen most of these before again goals of our schools and of our district how we evaluate student progress having a gifted and talented program how we review curriculum and that's a goal for this year as well you already saw an example of our teacher and principal or at least our principal evaluation tonight as Paul shared his goal our workaround PD our leadership teams access to excellent and diverse teachers our annual budget and periodic reporting so those are the reporting requirements again I'm going to go through this fairly rapidly so please go ahead and stop me if you have a question um these are three schools and they all have very specific goals why do we have these goals well it measures effectiveness of our district curriculum and meeting the standards set forth by the state informs our our decisions around curriculum instruction based on student achievement results and we used the plan also around intervention progress monitoring placement state and federal requirements and our annual accountability measures um gifted and talented programming we talked about our mtss work of which that is another goal we have for this year is to I apologize some of this didn't transfer very well from the original PowerPoint so um we also have to keep in mind those two very specific policies 513 and 550r those are both one of them at least was new last year so it hasn't been changed since then and our process around a curcum review process is a guaranteed and viable curriculum align to state standards and Implement with best practice I do want to say this you know one of the disappointments to me around the capital projects lby um it certainly is around that we're going to be not be able to bring in these Tech technology tools to assist in teaching and learning but it also really says that we have some things that by law and by need we have to still spend out of the general fund and technology that would have been dollars I would have really liked to used to go out and get more curriculum um we are hurting in this District around curriculum um we do not have solid curriculum um especially at our younger years for literacy um and um our middle level for math um it is one of my goals and I'm committed to making that work we are going to find a way to do it it but again it will likely be at the expense of something else but it's really important and I know we we literally have um an any given weekend a Saturday um 10 to a dozen teachers at our elementary school working on stuff because they're literally trying to find materials to use and I've shared this with them I feel like they're teaching with a hand behind their back and our work is to make sure they don't have to systems for growth um this is our teacher evaluation process it is incredibly robust um in particular I'll mention the Q comp process which is fantastic here um the different evaluations learning walks and the peer review process and we are looking at student growth and engagement on a regular basis again I've mentioned it a few times now and um Kathy matson's going to come in February and talk about how we're using data and I'm really excited for that because it's changed the way we're looking at things we are actively engaging our teachers and our students I'm sorry at the high school level especially around their data and how we can improve this is the principal evaluation process you'll see that there's three formal meetings per year I've concluded those first meetings with our principles are on goal setting on those those items there and we have conferences regularly I meet with the principles as a group every other week um but then I meet with them individually three times a year on all their goals learning Innovation work and to mention the curriculum advisory committee teacher leadership this is something that has expanded exponentially in the last year in particular I want to point in our built um we had several members at the meeting that are part of built and they did Express things that I've been hearing all year is um how much they've been actively engaged in the work and I'm really proud to hear that because that's the whole point um we need our teachers at the Grassroots level out in front of kids helping to make decisions about what's best for kids and then the PD piece which is very significant and I have shared a couple times that it is challenging oftentimes we do PD a lot during Workshop week we have one in October one in November and one in January then we say see you again next Workshop week so we're going to have some conversations that'll probably involve some calendar committee work around how we can do more professional development work because we really do need more time this is that team and I apologize it's not really copy over beautiful on here it looks good on great on here it's beautiful perfect and again we really did ask for input and we got some great input this last time and I I'm really thankful not just from folks who are in this room or our teaching staff but also from um one or two members of the community one of who I believe was here tonight again that built has been significant um the core team are magnet leads at our three sites um who are all three the perfect magnet leads for the work they're doing in their buildings the PLC leads and the teacher mentors we're really working hard to build capacity in our teacher leadership ranks but also I want to point out the support that we're providing our teachers um to do their work from a people St Point anyway um PLC work is a continuous Improvement so um few different points to mention here want people to grow use and research based strategies and assisting teachers implementing technology which again is still a work in progress underneath Essa or every student succeeds um we have to identify an ineffective teacher um an inexperienced teacher and not a field teacher happy to report we do not have any ineffective teachers by definition we do have some newer teachers who are listed as inexperienced and we do have some out of field teachers primarily in the area of special education who by the way are doing a really great job and I'm super proud that we have uh one of our special education uh teachers has been one of her jobs is to Mentor all of those out of field permission folks and how to do things and um really proud of how that's working in fact a couple of them said they're going to go back and get their license and become special ed teachers our annual professional development budget looks like this as you know it's a 2% set aside for PD um and then uh cuc comp that put those two things together those are the dollar figures you know I know it's been a long time and probably none of us were around at the time when qop was adopted because I think it was during the penty administration um but I'm very thankful that this District did that because some districts didn't and I go to meetings um for State um education platforms and legislative work and many schools are like our district has continually kicked ourselves for not jumping on qop when it was available as you know with qop funding it's a per pupil allocation that hasn't changed since it was adopted so the only way that goes up is if we get more kids goes down if we get less um but we're happy to have that funding in our system we have to do annual reporting via our school website periodic reporting via the community survey and performance measures uh that we're doing on a regular basis next steps um we've gone through our goals I shared much of that with you at the last meeting um so again all these things are all online a review of the goals met or not met we set new goals for this current school year and we are currently monitoring those goals as I mentioned the lifelong learning goal was one that we get to self-determine and we will be giving a draft survey we're creating one for grades 48 and 12 so as they're articulating to the next part of their schooling or their life they'll be given a survey um that's yet to be created that's going to be determining whether they're meeting these characteristics and so we're excited about that and we will continue with our periodic Community survey that which you saw here a few meetings ago with that Baseline data we got and it was shared here um I think it was in September October um this is what report looks like on our website and you can find it there as you go and look at the tab any questions I'll share you know the goals met and not met we're seeing very strong success at our preschool level a big part of the goals for this particular one is around our bipo population or students of color primarily here in our system those are our students who are classified as Hispanic we are seeing um some struggles in that area so we need to focus there and that's our plan as we go forward we are seeing strong levels of students with College and Career Readiness goals we're meeting that goal very well in fact better than almost any District I'm really proud of those numbers those are reported you have to dig for them a little bit on the MD report card but I pulled them up the other day and I was kind of showing them off to some other superintendent like cars aren't anywhere near that so um their numbers might be a little higher at times on the you know the once a year tests we see in MCAS and I say this all the time you know um perhaps our students might not be knocked in the ball or the ballpark on a Tuesday or Thursday here in April but boy are they doing well as they um leave and become young adults and productive members of society because lots of college credits they're showing a lot of grip because they're staying in those systems and many of them are also seeing success um as they leave to the workforce or other things so really proud of that work um and we are right at the normal place we normally are for grad uation rates and I'll say in our system with the end value being where it is few kids up or down it dramatically changes that so and some of those kids we the ones who are with us by the time they finish their senior year they're all graduating it's the ones that we maybe don't know where they landed and we don't have data on them that we don't know so we are good any questions all right please so it's been super cool to see just the continued focus on building the framework for like how we're going to go like for reading or math or whatever it may be and I appreciate your leadership in that space because um when I joined the board a bit ago um one of the things that generally just people wanted to be a part of something and they wanted to be a part of like POS posi of change and growth and feeling empowered and being like doing that using their entire degree right we have many Masters prepared Professionals in this district and and so it's just really um it's awesome to see this because this is I feel like this last year since we've got you you've really done an awesome job building this framework and and the framework is the foundation in which then you can build from and so just uh so much gratitude to you um for that from my in this board um it's just fun to see um the future is really bright so thank you thank you and it is and I have to say it's a lot of fun to work with people and we have some you know I ask hey who's good at this and I have people raise their hands and say do you want to help and they're like yes and so we we have um we have the right people in the system to do great things and and and I you know I remember Ronda told me a long time ago best kept secret and boy was she right I mean the stuff that's happening here with our kids um whether it's in activities um and you've seen I mean we have you know Mr Bernard here sharing what's going on in in at the high school and he's he's a dynamic personality who really gets instruction and as I said to the you know folks in the system we needed to build that Foundation last year and that alignment and those things and we've done that now the next step is to really attack learning and that's why we exist we couldn't do that until we had all these other pieces lined up and we have that now the next part's harder work it really is um but we are committed to doing it and doing it well and it won't happen overnight but it's going to happen and we're really proud of the the work that's happening throughout the entire system excellent um moving on thank you so much for that information um moving on to 10 community school and Family Partnership resolution of acknowledgements contributions and donations Dr ho it's a long list this time around I'm just going to say thank you to everybody who donated I know still here um you know Chris said you know we had quite a list and I think her hands are still tired from typing all of these in um and I thank her for that and I want to thank the community um not just on this list but those who were present on Friday evening we you know again we we didn't pass a Lev here that that that happens um but we do have a generous Community who supports our schools and I'm proud to be the superintendent and I'm thankful for those gifts so I ask the board to acknowledge those gifts here tonight perfect I would appreciate a motion I'll make a motion to approve the contributions resolution as identified in the board minutes excellent thank you so much so uh uh first and Eric Gordy well second any discussion this is a resolution m Adam cler call the rooll please Beth prasa hi ER Gord hi Jessica Johnson hi Amy Edwards hi jimie Hills from I motion passes unanimous excellent thank you so much that is very helpful for our district moving on to 10B finance committee meeting Thursday December 5 800 a.m. virtually at the link listed Board of Education work session Monday December 2 at 5:30 in the the bar room and regular meeting of the Board of Education truth and Taxation Monday December 16th at 5:30 in the district office boardroom taxation conversation begins at 6 6 6:30 6:30 so the meeting will start at 5:30 with truth and Taxation beginning at or shortly after 6:30 excellent thank you so much that that's all good I'm looking at two people making sure those numbers and names were right it all looks good Perfect all right Community uh board Community updates uh anyone willing well I can go first so uh since our last uh board meeting went to two public Levy presentations one here one in Cork corkran yep app thank you could I was thinking no corkran uh then two facilities committees meetings um nov November amsd November uh board meeting was able to listen through on that couple board chair chats there was a a fun one on the 21st at 1:00 about building a strong board through um through um new staff or new board onboarding and mentoring which was nice and and then this meeting so that was a nice thing so that those are my objects to go anyone willing to go next I can go Prasco sure I was at the ly presentation here at the high school and I was at the certify the election result on the 13th and then I had such a privilege of being able to attend the mrea conference so I went the first night we had the Ws dinner and then there was on the 18th there was a keynote and went the three breakouts rethinking the role of principal which really highlighted the importance of the principal as that secondary most impact as you all know after the teacher and in as instructional leader then I went to mrea advocacy which is really it just reaffirmed why we're part of that group and then I went to a fabulous one on AI and I liked how they put it like we can put our heads in the sand and pretend it's not there or we can abrace it and know what's coming and they had a really good activity that if we ever have 10 minutes in a work session I would love to bring because we because it's not going away it's important to think about some guidelines for it and what's what would we how we use it in this distory and how would we not use it in this distory and then the next day was another fabulous keynote and then last week was the curriculum meeting you just heard all about it it was it I know that's not the real name anymore I chatted it down quickly and then today we met with the policy committee thank you Miss Presa any questions for for Beth none okay Jessica would you mind going where do you want Jamie to go Jessica is still Meandering F so there you go Jamie have all uh yeah I can go um the yeah the community meeting um we went to that um also the curriculum um curriculum instruction and assessment meeting um and then I also attended the chamber meeting on the 14th um and then uh policy meeting today before the work session and then I also got to go to the m Rea conference um and I think everyone that went all of the breakups see I've never heard so many like it was super use useful everything was appli it was it was really really good um I really enjoyed it um yeah and I yeah it was awesome okay you ready I'm ready are you sure okay yes very good thank you all right so I did attend the L presentation I had a maso meeting um and we actually got to go on location to Village Ranch out in cooc which is really cool they um recently did an addition to the academic building so before you would walk in and it was like one hallway which worked for management of the kids but um they've really increased the number of kids they have and age groups um so having that tiny space was not working great for them so um they added on a whole another Wing to it and it's absolutely beautiful and amazing and what these teachers are doing um for these kids is incredible I it's amazing to see programs like this available to our communities well in Village Ranch typically it's not really as much our kids as it is kids from outside of the maso district because that's how those programs work it's um but it's nice to see that there are programs like this available in our state for kids that have challenges that um need need a place for Education they do do a really good job there um so that was fun that was a really good uh meeting um the certification of the election policy meeting earlier today I did attend the chamber meeting um in November on the 14th um but more as a business person but not school board um and then I attended the M conference and I Echo what Jamie best said it was amazing I was I've been to how many msba conferences and hands down this one was so applicable to districts like our district um all the breakout sessions were great um I attended one on investing in excellence rethinking teacher salaries for a brighter future which was really unique coming from uh it was a district that has three town it's combining three towns up um northern Minnesota or yeah Northern Minnesota um and how they have their starting wage and how they have managed to do that financially um and the benefits that they have found from doing that um it was really good I also attended from credentials to classrooms uh decoding pby updates so all the different updates being on the continuing ed committee this is very helpful um but it was really um showing what the state is trying to do to help especially in our deficient areas Statewide for trying our teacher shortages and how we're getting people into the schools that maybe without a forear degree in education how are we getting them in and how to what options are out there and what the state is trying to do to help with that um so that was a really helpful um uh session uh then I attended lights camera recruitment um students and staff and actually um who's been doin our media Colin yeah what Captivate media Captivate Cate media they were part of it um and that one was good it was really good at the same time pretty much everything they're saying I'm like yep that's what we're doing you know it's it's and I felt like we were ahead of the game from the majority of the people in the room like we've done some really good stuff to right to Market our district and that we're we're doing a very good job of it so um it was interesting to see what Wilmer has done because that was the school that helped with the presentation and what they had to do with their marketing because they were losing so many kids and now what they they've done to really increase their enrollment and it was through a lot of the media marketing and how how you do it with the little Snippets and I'm like o that's how that's our videos we've done those videos those nice little snippet one they were really good so um and then the speakers that we had um this one here what's her name again Jenny serson um she was just really good talking about um mindfulness and I really liked her focus on instead of really dwelling on problems really focus on the positives and pushing towards the positives to get people thinking positively in their lives and um uh she was she is pretty incredible a pretty good good uh speaker she had been a teacher and was at burn level and um what she did to get through all that and uh yeah it was um I I love the conference I thought it was absolutely amazing and valuable and um M's teacher of the year the last two years um has went to the National nrea level and one national teacher of the year so Minnesota top two for 23 and 24 or 22 and 23 both won national level um and uh they both spoke the one spoke she was the one that won this last year here amazing Melissa help me her last name I can't remember she special ed over Center based a special ed and her um wow did you gave her an application right I mean she's you guys she's she's in incredible the stuff that she's done is amazing like a myo level position yeah yeah it just incredible so um High very well organized I'm going to go next year again I and the venue is great the way they have it set up and you get plenty of steps in because you're definitely all over the place for everything but um it's it's really very well very very well done and and we talked about we Jessica and I I think Jamie mentioned it too we would like to as a group nominate or we would say we would recommend that you would nominate like a a teacher yeah because I don't know that we've ever nominated a teacher from Rockford so they show I mean uh Howard Lake teacher got he was one of the so they do a North a South and a North Central and a South Central teacher of the year and then one of those four becomes the states teacher of the year and goes to the National level and um there was a Howard L teacher this year that received that and as you're reading through this I'm like we have amazing teachers for these things and it would be really nice to see that um we do that LE enter someone into it we can't you know if we don't enter you can't do anything so um it was an incredible conference I just wow it was awesome very well done thank you so much appreciate those S wordss hard to follow that uh so but it sounds I mean that's what a cool update J and team the whole team that went and can I ask a really did do you see a lot of full boards go because like I know we try really hard to go to msba but like I mean like in the future like would that be something that you would recommend as the full board so I think one of the unique parts of this is there were a lot of teachers oh interesting a lot of Administrators and there was school board but I would say there was a even distribution cool so that was actually really nice too because you could see different perspectives um yeah I it was it maybe that's why it was so great because as a Schoolboard we're at this level and we go to msba all it's this whereas at M a yeah we're Schoolboard but you're seeing all of it and it's applicable throughout and being a smaller District I feel like we're more in touch with the other levels of the district right like every level of the district every area of the district we're a little more connected to rather than maybe a bigger School District you're very separated from that and so maybe that's why and I don't and I think it was applicable to everyone so take it AI as a Schoolboard member I'm thinking more like do we have a guidance document for how we use AI right that high level then then the the principal be like does my school have one and then the teachers are like how am I using this and so at every level every breakout session I went to I didn't feel out of place as a school board member I felt like we built it all the autonomy and hands down the breakout sessions were more relevant I think than any of the break sessions I've ever gone to at msba that's cool neat okay sorry for good question question curious very curious Mr okay well here we go being curious yeah okay so my my only I had a very uh limited slate here so facilities committee on the 25th um which you already heard a whole bunch about this evening board prep for this meeting on the 14th and then I also had the opportunity to attend the education f Foundation um with a a group of folks uh last Friday and just again I you know obviously we just approved a Full Slate of donations that came through the Education Foundation and when you're in that room with so many faces from our community across all different you know different relationships with the the school district they could be a business they could be family members they could be you name it um you know all in on all of the things um it's just it's very powerful to be in there and to to see all of that uh fundraising Mr Gordy did a lovely job as the MC for the evening so thank you for once again you and Mr pennings doing that uh keeping it light and motivating and all of the things um but just again like so impressive when you take a step back and think about how much money was raised for really good causes uh that
