we're going to ask you to move along so we can get on with our meeting thank you have a Happy Thanksgiving okay so Board of Education members we have another amazing student from the high school here as we alluded to earlier over a year ago this young man approached me and he said Dr Labby I've been speaking with Mr burn the principal of the Wilson school and we both agreed that the Wilson School School needs a playground and Dr Labby I want to for my Eagle Scout badge raise the money necessary to purchase and install a playground and I said to this incredible young man I said W that's a pretty big Endeavor Elijah do you think you're going to be able to raise that kind of money and as we mentioned earlier Elijah singlehandedly well not single-handedly because he had some help from a very special person his mom raised $122,000 for the purchase and installation of the brand new playground at the Wilson school and I see Mr burn is here too to help us celebrate this incredible accomplishment and I have the privilege of attending one of those pasta dinners that he threw that was one of the numerous fundraisers that he went ahead launched in order to again I can't it's staggering for a young person to raise $112,000 on his own uh it is just mindboggling so please indulge me in recognizing and celebrating Elijah Jung for his incredible accomplishment and his contribution to the Wilson school and our school community and Elijah would like to be able to give you a presentation of the whole journey to the playground being installed and our kids using it for the first time last week so please give a big hand for Elijah hello okay good evening um uh yeah you guys heard what he said I this project um I'm I'm pretty proud of it it took a long time for me to get this done I started in my freshman year of high school and by the way you were like four or five inches shorter at that time too Elijah you grew so big yeah um but yeah I made this little slideshow to show you guys the whole process from all the way from the beginning from what they had um to the end so so this is what they had when I first showed up and I went to do my project there was just a pretty much blank field with a little bit of equipment for kindergarteners and I was like this is not enough for my school that I attended and um I wanted to do some more so after this I obviously I to fund raise a lot of money so the next slide is some of the fundrais the pasta dinner I did a car wash trash cleanups I had a Gund me page I had all kind like so much other stuff I don't even remember what I was doing there was so much stuff um so I started getting to work this was at least two years ago in my in my this is literally in my driveway we were cutting wood for benches that I wanted to install cuz you know they didn't have anything so I my plan for for I was going to build benches and a guy got pit and I had to hire a company to build the actual jungle gym so this is me building the benches and the next side is more progress um so this is more building benches is the day of construction um benches is got got pit here and on the right side too um and these are the finished benches on the left and we were staining the benches um you know outo woodst for that um so the finished finished up hit and the Finish benches are all there and uh I was pretty happy with the work that I me and my troop accomplished on this day of installing the benches um after this I had to hire an actual company to build the jungle gym because they don't let uh 16year olds use you know uh a backa um so beats me so this is the company with all of their this is like all the playground stuff um all the parts and things they got to work at 7 in the morning and they ended at 8:00 p.m. all in the same day 12 hours they built this freaking Jungle Gym um so this is a work in progress of the Jungle Gym you know almost done three years worth the work finally just right in front of me it's like wow it's it's really surprising um the next slide I pretty sure is yeah the fin this is the Finish playground so this is what they have currently sitting at Wilson school right now is this $113,000 playground and my benches and Gaga pit you know elij so many things impress me about you um but what impresses me the most and I got from the short presentation you made is what an inspiring leader you've become I think this project meant so much to you and I think this project helped you grow in so many ways but above all what I see is a very strong young leader in front of us I appreciate that and I can't thank you enough for your initiative your hard work your dedication commitment to seeing this through it got gray sometimes right yeah it definitely it got gray and and you know you're stuck to it you know we we talk about all the time that when you're a leader you're going to face some difficult times and you got to face that difficult time with poise patience and then persistence you persisted on and look what you accomplished and I love how you when you were given your presentation you said my troop and my troop and and me or or we I heard mentioned Time and Time Again by you and it just shows what an impressive young leader you are and I'm inspired that someone like you is going to be leading Us in the very near future so congratulations and all the best on and a job done incredibly well I don't don't go away I just want to add a couple of words um I actually um know him from when he was a little kid and his mom was a girl scout leader remember uh you probably don't remember me but um I do remember you how can you forget Mrs babone you out and um you know you were always like that though even when you were little your compassion and your empathy for people shown through I think the apple does not fall far from the tree so you kind of take after your mom so congratulations and you really did grow up to be an outstanding kid you're welcome thank you hold on elah anyone else from the I just want to ask Elijah one question I looked at your benches they convert into tables right yes I love that there's four benches and the back so it's like the benches like this and then you can move it up like this if you put two them together it's like a picnic table very cool very cool amazing see and I think Mr Callahan had a question or one or Mr Walsh he has a mustache sorry sorry he a mustache I don't have hair I I I was very impressed I know we uh all of our athletes we we gave them great accolades tonight but I was an athlete we compete for ourselves we we want to win something I I'm so impressed with you that you raised this money and did this for something that's not really benefiting you which is extremely commendable and uh you should be very proud of yourself thank you great job anyone else thank you Elijah very much me too Mrs Bloom that concludes my presentations for this evening okay uh moving on to board discussions finance and infrastructure Mr Smith thank you last Tuesday the Board of Ed finance and Constructor committee met uh during the meeting Mr colenburg were providing an update on facilities is all thank you Mr Smith questions for Mrs Smith from the board no okay Personnel committee Mrs pilot sure uh the Personnel committee met earlier this evening we reviewed open positions for both certificated and non-certificated staff uh we spoke about the professional development day which was held on November 5th um overall the feedback was very favorable um particularly getting uh a lot of positive feedback was the Ed connective and keynote speaker uh we also discussed our mid year job fair uh where we will focus on loas and non-certificated openings in transportation um cafeteria and the maintenance department um and we are working uh with Administration for possible inclusion of departments and other buildings um and lastly the governor educator of the Year award that process uh is in motion um and the board will know the nominees by the eth and you know always uh a great meeting uh when we give out those Awards so uh great to get that process underway that's it thank you Mrs Mr lman our government's meeting was uh relatively short we only had a few minor things uh we have a number of policies and regulations that are going to be coming up in a future update um but they have not come out yet our major um piece of this meeting was a slight revision to our student identification card and uh lanyard regulation which is on tonight's uh Board of Ed agenda as well for a first reading um that is just to align it with our student code of conduct um aside from that we went over some legislative updates and that was it student achievement y uh student achievement met last month October 29th uh during that meeting Mrs grossin reviewed the six curriculum guides that we're approving tonight uh in just a short little time there in addition she also discussed with the committee the new say yes Club at the high school which stands for saille youth enjoy science club uh we're going to also ask us to asking all of you to approve it tonight after that Miss Bert uh also gave us an update on the November 5th staff development day and again fantastic uh job by all she also discussed uh the grants the EA Grant the Perkins Grant climate change grants and she even discussed the climate change Grant Advisory board meeting that she had earlier that day and finally she gave us all an update on the new linkit RTI intervention manager software our next meeting is next Tuesday thank you but I'm sure you can hear me anyway okay so if you didn't hear me the meeting is on December 12th that's the middle sex County School Board Association meeting at Piscataway High School uh at this time we will open to public for agenda items only anybody from public for agenda items okay see none Dr Labby superintendence report if you please thank you Mrs Bloom if I can bring your attention to finance numbers 14 and 15 we're asking you to approve the submission of the amended application for funding under the individuals with disabilities Education Act for the amount stated as well as for the amended application of the every student succeedes act again for the amount stated in the agenda and that's for the period of July 1st through June 30th 2025 number 16 which you can find on page four we're asking you to approve the submission of the 2025 2026 3-year preschool program plan and annual update number 20 which you can also find in page four we're asking you to prove the purchase of a beverage air reachin refigerator and that would be for the samsa upper elementary school and that's from map restaurant supplies in the amount of $555 and that's going to be paid for out of the food service Services account number four on page four number 34 we're asking you to approve a contract for Professional Services with Aspire technology Partners to purchase cabling and installation of additional security cameras across the district in the total amount of$ 62573 number 36 which you can find on the addendum we're asking you to approve an agreement for Professional Services with the spel Architectural Group grp um for $986 and that's for the completion of the solar canopy project at the high school and that's using the esip funds this is just for the Professional Services as you know Board of Education members we have been in a stalemate with green Skies who is the financer and contractor of the solar power purchase agreement and we've decided finally to move on and finish the project ourself because they are refusing to do it numbers 37 and 38 which you can also find in the addendum we're asking you to approve a contract with CD government for tutoring software licensing uh for go Guardian tutor me also known as pek and that program is to provide tutoring Services 24 hours a day 7even days a week to students in grade 6 through2 and that's in the amount of $43,500 beginning on January 1st we're also asking you to purchase technology software subscription licensing um from savis Learning Company in the total amount of $2,350 and that's for success maker and that's part of the envision math program and I asked Miss Grossman and Miss B if they would like to give any more information to the board on either parade or uh the um success maker en Vision math program absolutely Dr lbby so uh pair deck is on demand one to12 ing that we were able to provide for all of our students at sville middle school and at se sville War Memorial High School last year as a result of the district being awarded the high impact tutoring Grant and we had such a large response from our community and the students had such positive things to say about it that we are continuing our partnership so that students can log on to their clever accounts and they can um request on on demand tutoring onetoone in any content area that they would like extra help or supplemental instruction in in addition to being able to submit writing assignments and get feedback from certified teachers and we are locally funding that renewal for this year uh due to the success that we saw last year the um online component success maker for the enVision Math series is something that some of our special special ed supervisors and our math supervisors have been working closely with me on to find materials that are going to support our students in mathematics so Envision which is our curriculum program material textbook series for mathematics in K through 8 has this online component that they have put out since we acquired the program that is assessment based so students will have embedded assessment that they will take when they log on to this tool but then it also has video tutorials and it's differentiated to revisit the skills that the students may be um a little bit weak or need a little bit extra practice on so that tool is going to be made available to all of our students in grades 4 through 8 as part of our plan when we talked about student achievement data and as a district we are always looking to see student progress improve So based on that we were able to identify this tool that we're going to bring to our ues and our middle school students thank you Mr Gman any questions on those items or anything else on finance and infrastructure I'm I'm just so glad to seeing on our own thank you okay any others all right let's move to student achievement beginning on page 15 number two we're asking you to prove the long-term suspension of several students number three we're asking you to proove multiple revised curriculum guides and number four which is also on page 15 love the name of this club by the way the approval of the say yes Club at the high school which stands for the sville Youth enjoy science club and we can thank Mrs Abdullah for taking the time to act as the adviser for this club any questions for those items or anything else on student achievement all right moving on to governance and I apologize because the the policies that um Mr Glock Malloy referenced are not on the agenda for a first reading we will put them on the agenda for a first reading in December and again I apologize for that but let's begin with number two which can be found on page 17 as always we can thank Mrs uh dzinski who is our media specialist at the middle school who has once again volunteered to serve as our liaison with the burrow um and the mayor um in the count the to serve as the burough of sville Mayor and Council trustee for the sville public library so once again I think this is her fifth year that she's agreed to serve in this capacity for us she's the intermediary between the the burough library in the school district so it's it's quite um it's quite the important position and we can't think or enough for again volunteering for that number three which you can find on page 17 we're asking you to approve the 2024 School Safety and Security plan review statement of assurance number four which you can also find in page 17 we're asking you to approve the sville public schools nursing Services plan number five as we've told you we are in a qack and that's the qualitative single accountability Continuum review cycle this year so the Department of Education is revie viewing to determine if our district continues to be a thorough and efficient district and they use the qack or again qualitative single accountability Continuum to rate our performance um the first step in doing this is to do our own self assessment which we conducted back on October 30th via a committee several of our board members are on that committee and upon your approval this evening we'll be submitting those ratings as well as a declaration page and a certified board minutes page to the Department of Education they'll be coming out sometime in the spring to collect evidence to support our ratings and then give us our final ratings number six which you can also find on the addendum we're asking you to approve a revised cafeteria manager cook job description we determined that we are in need of another manager cook position uh this this one at the Samer Elementary School currently there's a satellite manager position but we also feel that we need to have a manager Co cook position there so in looking at the job description Miss Hill and Mr cadino felt that it needed some tidying up it hadn't been revised in several years so they took the liberty of making some minor revisions to it that we're asking to approve this evening any questions on those items or anything else on governance okay moving forward if I can bring your attention to Personnel let's begin on page 22 so numbers eight and nine which you can find on pages 22 and 23 as well as items 30 and 31 which you can find in the addendum we're asking you to hire new certificated and non-certificated staff for this school year by expressing my gratitude to the members of our board of education for their continued service to our community specifically to our outgoing members Mr Walsh Mr Esposito and Miss pyck sville is lucky to have had you and grateful for the time you served served and to those who serve us on our Board of Education extend beyond this calendar year I say this your work is hard and your work is good but rarely is your work political it is seldom if ever governed by external forces seeking to enact an agenda nor should it be there was an article recently in the New Jersey Spotlight news titled NJ Schoolboard elections are supposed to be nonpartisan what happened it details the rise of political agendas on both sides in the space B of public education policy and in the races for Board of Education around the state in some instances including SEL candidates messages were requested to be Amplified by politically motivated candidates businesses and organizations this was no accident but the author of the article does examine how moving a board of education race to coincide with local state and federal elections in November has led to an increase in the politization and I practiced that of our Board of Education races having a Board of Education election in April often decreases the appearance of that election being partisan or political I would encourage this board to consider returning the Board of Education Election to April where it could be given the appropriate attention that an election as important as this would Merit as a board you are able to do this as a resolution should the board deem appropriate as you will know additionally I would request that you consider restoring the public comment to 5 minutes uh which can also be done by you as early as next meeting I'm not going to ask for a motion or resolution this this evening but a holiday gift to residents at our next meeting consider it now to our board members who are returning for the 2025 calendar year I do come tonight to ask for your support not for a campaign or a resolution not for funding or special projects but I'm here to ask for you to focus as we enter the next term I'm asking for your concentration and your dedication and your continued commitment to keeping the actions of this board spotlit on the good of our children under the power granted to you by both law and statute as well as by the public trust it is important that our returning board members help to counsel folks on what role a board member can take and what they cannot and to keep a watchful eye on that work that's being done I assure you on the strength of 1,26 committed sville residents as well as from the mouth of the dad who stands before you that Sarahville is a burough that cares deeply for transparency and good work and the ethical application of law in policy I lean into the work that you have done to inform my hope that as we move forward we give our good grace and gratitude to the work that has come before by training our eyes on the work that is still to come and I trust that you will ensure that that good work continues without hindrance or distraction on behalf of me my
