communication of individual students learning progress success and support dop progress or project update Miss Erica Tyle hello hello good evening um and I just want to say a special hello and welcome to Mia and Allison it is so great to have you guys here and I look forward to working with you both this year um yes so I'm here tonight to give you an update on this very long project title uh and we last gave you a preview of this um at a regular school board meeting in August and tonight I'm just going to dig a little bit deeper and kind of um share with you how we're starting the year with this project so first just a reminder of the why um for the project project over the last few years um many of you have followed along as we've had a variety of different Communications projects and each year we're tackling a different aspect of communication we've worked hard to deepen connections um with our with our families between school and home and while we've made progress in strengthening our overall school and classroom Communications we want to continue to deepen that work it's not quite standard work yet and as well as focus on that individual connection that um the school teachers make on an individual student's progress um successes and support so tonight I want to give you an update just around three of the key achievement points um the first is our design and development and implementation of year-long communication plans at each of our schools the second is around some tools that we've been implementing and I'm going to focus on one in particular and then continued refinement on how we um personalize reporting on academic progress so first of all our year-long communication plans um this is really our second year um where we've T taken a really intentional design- centered approach to our yearlong view of communication um U our goal really in this work is to think and act less episodically and more holistically right across the whole year um we uh this year we gathered our principles in early August um to kind of reflect on last year and kick off a design process process and they spent August um working on their designs with their um School leadership teams and their learning and Equity teams so this was really owned at the building level and then um those teams rolled out their communication and connection plans during our Workshop weeks and that included expectations for every employee on what we hope our communication looks like for this year so some key elements just as a reminder I'm not going to go into depth on all of these tonight just um a few of them um but some of the key elements of our um year-long plans include things like our standard weekly School newsletter which that is pretty much St standard work at this point um and you can uh count on it on Wednesday evenings um Family engagement events are a part of this and this year looking across the year and really kind of figuring out what are the best touch points for those um classroom and family communication expectations the conferencing designs for the entire year not just fall but looking across the year and then those personalized communication moments I want to dig a little bit deeper into a couple of these um just because as we looked at all the plans um just want you to be aware of some of the themes and commonalities at each of the grade levels and I've broken it down by grade level because I thought that would be easier to digest so right now I can tell you the structure and expectations we don't really have a lot of results yet it's early October so at K4 um for I should say for each of these grade levels we'll talk about like all class communication so communication that the teacher sends to everyone as well as that individual communication so at K4 um across the board every K4 is doing a weekly classroom newsletter um and a lot of those have said um excuse me don't touch that a lot of those have said they're going to send those on Friday um with looking ahead to the next next week um the individual expectation is around personalized communication every 3 to six weeks for that grade level that's a minimum I should say all these are guidelines at grades 5 through eight the all class um communication includes the trimester overview which teachers are pushing out on email as well as posting in schooly um and for schooly and nons schooly users you may know right you can set your own digest and frequently you get that if if you get it pushed to you so some of that is you have to go look for it and some of it you get if you depending on your settings and then those weekly overviews are posted to schoolly so they're available individual um progress reporting is every three to four weeks at Westwood and then at the high school um all class Communications similar to Westwood trimester overviews are pushed bya email and also posted in schooly and then the week at a glance is posted in schooly and then they have expectations built in that at least three times throughout the trimester there's all class communication might be centered around a big project or an assessment or something like that and then there individual communication they have monthly opportunities and those really coincide with their conferencing plan which I'll go into next so for conferencing designs these are like parent teacher conferences conversations right so at K4 um we continue to have a lot of flexibility in the modality um and I mean you can go to school and have an inperson meeting you can have a WebEx meeting a phone call um and then there continue to be daytime and evening time slots and outside of the published times that are available there is flexibility to schedule time and as a side note here um we've had a variety of tools that we've been using to schedule conferences and we're moving toward one tool across the district um to schedule conferences to try to make it as simple um as possible for our families once you learn how to use it it's really easy at Westwood um they're are more traditional they're following a similar model to last year a more traditional conferences in the fall and then as the year progresses they have office hours available um and sometimes a family can schedule time a teacher might reach out there's also drop in availability and then again for this year Westwood also started the year with um intro phone calls to all their families and then at the high school um also a more traditional conference model in October and February in the mid try and then office hours and targeted communication time has been built in monthly so there's an opportunity to have a monthly touch Point whether if you want that or the teacher sees a need for that it that can go both ways um now on to communication tools um if you'll recall last year we had a milestone around a districtwide pilot of a tool called talking points it's a two-way texting tool um we always have the capability to text one way but this is two-way communication um it's we've we've adopted the tool and use the tool for onetoone communication not like all class announcements so you're not getting spam communication time or um so this this is a tool for individualized communication um and a big benefit has been um realtime translation so if I text in English but a family prefers their Communication in Spanish it does that real time translation back and forth and you can have a dialogue it is SMS text and if nobody you don't need to download anything or learn a new tool that that said there is an app that people can have the option to download and if they start using the app that SMS text goes away and it goes into the app so that's an important note it's not a new tool we've added it's just a simple back and forth so our implementation update as we start this year um last year we had every school up and running on attendance the nurses um counselors and some targeted roles as people were wanting to try it and we were trying to look for some you super users to get us going um over spring break um Spring Lake Park High School all teachers um started using talking points and then we started the Year this year with Park Terrace getting on board this week actually North Point and woodrest are coming online and Westwood will be online by the end of the month so people are just trying to adopt it not sometimes it's a lot to do at the beginning of the year so we're looking for natural places where they can work it in so I have some sample stats um from June through now 1300 text messages it's probably it goes up every day so I this might be a little off by now um those were messages sent by staff and reaching 737 families um so by communication standards having it back and forth like that is those are pretty strong numbers um and then I I have an example here on the screen redacted the names here uh but just to show you what it looks like um wood crest um they wanted to confirm their first graders um coming in in August um as they were making class rosters in determining space and um so principal Jamie nyman um sent a text message to all the incoming first graders you can see it's just hello and it was personalized to the family I hope you're enjoying your summer this is principal nyman we're excited for first am student to would join us are you planning on them being here um and then really nice response yep we're excited um um so it was a really effective way for her to get that information um she sent 120 text messages and had 114 responses in one evening yeah yeah pretty yeah exactly uh so and then finally academic um progress reporting so um at the case six level this year um we're going to we're continuing to evolve the design of the report card um lots of feedback around that and we're continuing to look at that and how to make that communicate um as well as we'd like it to and um we're also including work on the delivery of that we've had a lot of requests around electronic delivery um that won't be how the first try roles but we're looking at that for the second try and then um we are also continuing to support teachers reminding them you know remember to highlight a competency in your newsletter um and giving them those little nudges and supports um to help um continue to communicate with families and then at um grade 7 to 12 um support looked a little similar more similar to what we did last year at k6 um we worked with the Innovative and personalized learning leads to provide some communication tools and help um teachers get started in communicating about the competencies in their course um that was student facing as well as um Family facing um and it did include a two-page handout we worked on uh just to explain the differences in schooly there are screen like what are the differences between the grade book View and the Mastery view um and some of that is still being populated as the courses get underway um but wanting people to really understand what those two things were we're showing you and then of course we have heard I mean not everyone goes into schooly shocking no I totally appreciate that um and uh we want to make sure that our communication approach is not reliant on people having to go into schoolo um so how do those conferencing opportunities the office hours the proactive communication how does it all work together so that a family feels like they know what's happening and what's going on so that is our update as we are in October and I if there are any questions happy to answer those yes I don't have any questions I just I I have to pause and I am just I'm so impressed with how far this has come in two years I mean my youngest graduated in 2020 and in some of those years between we were a little busy focused on other things and uh you know just even from when she graduated to now the ability part of it is the tools which is great but so much of it is making use of those tools and the way that you and your team jumped in and said we want parents to have more information about especially I you know especially in high school not that teenagers are the most communicative sure that many of them are but you know it's it can be more a little more feel a little more difficult to kind of always have access to that information so it's I'm just so impressed with how far it's come and that ability I think maybe not every school district would open themselves up to hey parents tell us what you're thinking and I'm so impressed that we do it and uh we are responsive to it and parents would like the report cards to be electronic so let's work toward that it's just it's really um just kudos to you and your te and I think it's great for everybody in this District so I just wanted to compliment you guys on that I was going to say I'm excited about the um just the creativity around it like what principal nyman did you know never would have occurred to me to use the tool in that way and then the the response that in itself is amazing so yeah I'm I'm excited this is great there are a lot of great I feel fortunate to work with a lot of people who are willing to embrace new thinking and new tools and just jump in and say hey could I use this for this let's try this um our nurses are super users of talking points and it's really effective way to communicate with families when kids aren't feeling well or we need medication help or there are a lot of really great examples awesome now the is are the nurses the power users of of the Tool uh well attendance is probably still the power user of the tool yeah but the nurses might be a post second awesome other questions comments thanks having having seen it from a long way districtwide all I can say is you've come a long way baby at a time when parents left their kids at the front door and parents went home and the school took care of the kids to now this kind of interaction is just amazing it does can you say that I will share one thing in I remember when I was a kid and it was always a race to beat the mailman or my parents home because we get the progress reports in the mail and we'd always find out when the teachers would mail so we'd race home to try and get the mail before our parents did so they wouldn't see the progress reports that's not going to happen awesome um did you want to move into um yeah I'm just gonna stay up here okay moving to upgrade slop School website the dop project update yeah so tonight I'm going to update you on the the very last project in the district operational plan for this year and it's the upgrade of the of the website um it reaches the level of dop project simply because of the visibility it has and its um purpose and use as tool across the district um so I'll just give you a brief status on where we're at with this work so um the why um the the current website was launched in the fall of 201 which is a long time ago in technology years um and while the site actually continues to operate really well and gets high marks for design and usability um it's time for a technical upgrade and we're really excited for that um so with the project we want to enhance the user EXP experience which um we're really excited about what the capabilities are out there um and also look at ways of um like specific Improvement areas that were have been identified as we go forward um so I all of the work we're doing with the website is really grounded in our 3D design process um at SLP um so we're we're working through the phases of discover design design and deliver um and tonight I'm going to I'm kind of recap what we did with discover and we're currently in the thick of design and then I'll tell you where we're going with deliver so with discover um another approach SLP approach is really this idea of looking in looking out looking around so um last spring we actually kicked off this work looking in um we spent a lot the month of May we had an open survey on the website we reached out to families we got staff input um we had um really thoughtful and insightful um examples shared by our staff and families things that they liked and things that um that you know highlighted as oh let's try to fix that um we spent a lot of time this summer doing a really deep dive into our own data um so looking at our search like what are people searching for traffic pages in and out time spent Pages never visited um to really get a good sense of where some of our gaps are and where we just like I just like a good house cleaning right some pruning um and then we did a good about of looking um out and that really entails review of best practice so we looked at a lot of best practice just in general on websites and in addition to award-winning websites and then we were able to connect with um final site which is our um partner our host and they're our partner in this work as well in the redesign and they really helped us connect with some experts on some Trends and just top priorities and at the same time they did an audit of our current site um which was really helpful and then we did looking around and I don't have the exact number but I I bet we've looked at we've looked at more than 150 maybe not quite 200 websites and when I say really looked at them like we went pretty deep um in understanding architecture and design and um functionality um so we looked at award-winning sites we looked locally nationally internationally education non-education um and then we also took time to identify some schools and districts that were doing work similar to us um to see what we can learn from them so on the side there I have some of our top takeaways um one we're fortunate to be working from a pretty strong position um so that Mak makes the work more fun because we get to home in on um sort of some of these key elements um we know that bringing new technology to the user experience is going to enhance that we have an opportunity to clean up some of the noise in our content just volume of content and then also some things in navigation and then um our high priority for us is to have the search function work really well so um right now we're in design and kind of three areas of design I'll just highlight where we're at um the first is with the site map and that's really how the site is organized um we created uh our first step was really to create a comprehensive sitemap for our current site so we we could understand we where we were starting from um and then we took a crack at a draft of the future State um and we did that with guidance from our final site partners and um what we learned in our best practice research um and then we did a fun thing where we tested that sitemap by doing a card sort so we had our buckets we gave everyone Post-it notes and then we asked them be like turned our backs because we couldn't we didn't want to see what they did no we watched them do it and um watched them put them in put um where would you look for this in the different buckets um which was a really useful exercise um I would say we were probably 80% there but then that 20% we really got to really think about refining the organization and um now we're in the process of developing those school um site maps and our program site Maps like um athletic s activities for instance um with visual design that's how the site looks and feels um we throughout our Discover phase we documented stuff we really liked and wanted to shamelessly borrow so we um compiled some of that stuff um and we had all all kinds of different examples we kicked off our design work um with our district homepage and our um style guide like how the fonts will look how the pictures will look how poll quotes will look like how it will just look and feel and um we were presented then or we worked with a designer presented three prototypes we kind of did pulled different elements from those prototypes and now we're kind of working through three rounds of refinement and then we'll move to the school and program sites uh with the content um that's really what the site communicates um our data dive this summer really helped us see where we had opportunities there so we are in the middle of doing content cleanup so you might pages are disappearing by the day um and uh so we're working through that and uh that's been um really cleansing actually um and then we're meeting with departments and content leads so that we can all Journey along together and know exactly what to expect on the other end and then this is our kind of our road map for our next steps um October through April um so this month we're going to finalize our hom page and style guide and then we'll just start design for um the mobile experience and those school and program homepages kind of a through line here is content clean up um and then in November we'll be working on the um District desktop and mobile site builds um December will be the school and program site builds um and at the end of that month our current site will migrate over to a staging site and we'll get to really work in the new environment um in Jan anuary we'll do a technical and accessibility quality assurance Run for the district and um for the mobile and then we'll do a similar process in February for the schools and programs um and then in March we're kind of going to be doing the last cleanup um and then the technical testing before we launch in April I don't have a date yet in April we're on track um and we'll communicate that as we get closer but that's our goal it is exceded to the much more more much more no I'm excited too because I it was funny you said clean oh when you said you're cleaning you might like no we probably didn't if you're already cleaning it up we probably weren't looking at those sit so that's exciting to I'm waiting for someone to say what did you do with that I haven't had that yet no that's awesome thank you for your work on this it's yeah no it's been really fun we've had a good time looking around too and we've had both um appreciation for how many really bad websites there are in the world as well as like oh there these are some really cool things we want to try that so 150 plus that's crazy a lot of websites that is a lot and we're very fortunate because we have such great photography and we prioritize that because there's nothing speaks louder right than a really great image yeah so we're already starting with a really great set of assets okay anyone else I just had a couple quick questions sorry Jess me look like hurry up um so the the site updates is that for public s or is that also internal is it or maybe it's both across the board everything I shared with you is all the public facing we do have a intranet we're not quite as far along in our thinking around that I mean we will have an Internet it's if you go to our website it says there's a staff link up there um we're exploring some it's fluid right now but yes we do have a a staff internet okay that will be it will be included in this and will the will the new design uh when we talk about new technologies is that AI chat bot to help guide people to the information they looking for you know we don't have that on the launch road map we looked at some of that but that could that could be something that we'll add in the future okay I was worried you're going to get really technical well no yeah no nothing Technical and then the launch date is April um is that so that other so that we can get used to it before the school year starts I'm just kind of curious as to it's kind of like towards the end of the year when we we purposefully didn't want to launch in the summer when no one's looking and then you're trying to find stuff and you don't know what's going on we wanted to get by some important School milestones and one of those is high school registration for the new year um we have a whole interactive course catalog out there we didn't want to mess with anything we want to have plenty of time to work on that before the next round so I was kind of finding that sweet spot where people will still using the site and we'll give it a good you know kick the tires on it um before the end of the school year and then we'll have summer time to do some additional cleaning up makes sense yeah hope so we believe it does make sense well seeing the work that you've done I'm really excited to see what you and your team are going to do with the website it's gonna be fun can I just put my plugin for my fact sheet oh it's coming okay it'll come for the new website fantastic because I just um you know I've just curious I've looked at other districts and their sites to what you were saying earlier and just how horrible some of the sites that are out there it's like you go to their website and you can't find any information it's just you got to dig for it it's nice when it's right there on the front accessible yeah I'm excited for I I've heard you it's coming thanks Erica moving on on to superintendent report all right so as Erica just said speaking of images we start with one right there from the pep Fest and this superintendence report is full of images of both um students and staff um over the past month so first we had our startup your engines um big trucks food trucks um all kinds of people from the community I think this was year three uh led by the panther foundation so um a big success with that um Center viw had they do every year um out on the line across over part of the NC there they do a big all school meeting and they take pictures um students sharing hopes and dreams to Big cheers then there's staff fund run before the school photo so you can see how some of our staff dressed up for the fun run right so and I like in the lower right you can see there's all 600 plus kids that go to Center like that yeah woodrest and North Point had their PTO uh fun runs just last week so I'll just leave it there for for minutes you can see some of those pictures it's been fun again thanks to the panther Foundation to have Parker down there our mascot being able to be at all these events I know the kids love Parker um Park Terrace students practice bus safety all of our schools did this just happens to be a picture from Park Terrace um and they talk to students about how to be safe on the Bus kids also got a chance to practice using the emergency exit so things they have fun doing it we hope they never do it for real but they're ready for it um then this is um over at Westwood so they've really been working on kindness you can see spreading Lake confetti with all the Post-it notes there and the upper left but they're logging their acts of kindness and each shows up as a piece of confetti on the wall so it's kind of fun to see it's really been a purposeful point of emphasis over there um and then Westwood fames joined with that focus on kindness during a special kindness nights over 150 people participated um and in one night over 200 plus kindness kits were made from donated items so F to see um this our construction trades program working Minnesota assistance uh assistance Council for veterans and lar homes um so the students are building a shed for that organization as part of their class this fall so and Scott Wick's not enthused about it at all so I'm kidding you can see him right up there couldn't be smiling any bigger so it is fun it's just contagious being around Scott when he starts talking about this program there we go and then you already saw one picture but the pep Fest was a huge success this year a packed gym um I think you too had something to do with P Fest right you'll probably talk about it a little bit so I won't steal too much of your thunder so the pictures speak for themselves Panther Foundation sponsored a panther sweep Stakes during uh homecoming so winners at each School earned $500 to f a project um they also got some Panther gear this happens to be over at Lighthouse and we had a reunification training uh you remember last year unfortunately we had to practiced this for real one day where we had some reunification over at a manual um and so we had a number of our staff uh colen Peterson LED that for the day as uh and you can see all the different staff that were there really working on in the event that we had to evacuate one of our sites go over to a manual what would that reunification with families look like so uh we had Community Resources there law enforcement Etc as well so then we're just going to share a bunch of pictures we had two days with no students last week the next couple days next week without students and so what do the teachers do and I think it's important it's not just days off for the teachers they're working hard so this was our 712 teacher facilitators so when we say teacher facilitators they're really teacher leaders who have expressed interest in leading their peers so we have about roughly 25 712 teachers and 25 k6 teachers who are coming in for additional learning ahead of time of each of these days throughout the year and then they're leading the learning learning of their peers so this was our 712 teacher facilitators as they started their day October 3rd um they did some role playing for you know what kind of questions might we get from our peers and I can tell you as I walked around over those two days that was the one of the coolest things was every place I went it was teachers teaching teachers so they were up in front really leading that learning of others it was fun to see and you'll see some of that these next pictures so this was North Point teacher facilitators and everything so they were ready so just wanted to to share this it's kind of nice for you be able to see that um it doesn't happen by accident there's a lot of learn learn uh work to really prepare them to lead their peers so you know just show up on that day and do it so um this is Centerview teachers sharing out after digging deep into their first five design qualities for creating engage and student work you know we've been looking at the selected work and how do we really um deepen the engagement for our students and that's not just we don't just say to people hey design engaging work it's like really what are those design qualities how do what's that look like how do you go through that process and um it was fun to see just some really amazing conversations as I walked around I saw teachers and this was our Westwood lead Learners as they went through the literacy learning so case six in addition to the engaging student work they were also working on literacy as part of the read act um this is our student services staff that we gathered to learn about engagement design principles as well um support their students so this was K12 Center based staff gathered for literacy learning so they were focused on literacy learning there so um Park Terrace again teacher facilitators L the literacy learning so you can see up on the in back where you see the O and La Ola that's the uh literacy learning that the what's the platform that we basically contracted with that all of our teachers are learning how many hours is it during the year roughly that to get through that yeah so it's 50 to 60 hours of learning for our k6 teachers just to run literacy the vast majority of that we've got embedded into the day so they're learning together and I know when I walked into Westwood um Susan Lee who's one of the instructional coaches over there caught me and she said that one of her teachers had had an appointment that she couldn't get out of and came and missed like the first 45 minutes to hour of the day and so she had to do that learning on her own she said I do not want to have to ever do that again she said it was so much more difficult do un it by myself compared to when I was sitting down with other teachers and going through it because they she could ask questions so it was it was good to hear the value that they were putting on that so K4 woodrest K4 teachers were joined by Westwood so the five six immersion teachers from Westwood went over to woodrest so again that was interesting to watch um some of our native Spanish speakers as they were learning to teach reading both in English and Spanish just as they were talking about some of the phonics and pH phones and so on and across the two languages so it was really interesting to listen to those conversations our Middle School teachers did again learning around engagement and assessments they a lot of work is the past couple years that they've been doing with Competency Based they've been moving into that design work and then our high school teachers they were up in the Great Hall and other classrooms right around there and they met in small groups in pairs to apply their learning in unit designs um before I move to that I did want to share I got a fun text last night um in the evening after the PTO meeting North Point um Tyler sent me Tyler Nelson the principal there sent me a text message and I'm just going to read it to you because it's kind of fun Katrina McCarthy who's a longtime teacher and she's one of the the the lead Learners isn't she up there yep and so Katrina talked at the PTO last night was sharing them the work that she does how they support students and then answering some questions but she also talked about this learning teachers are going through he said two parents who are also teachers in other districts turned to the entire PTO and said no other districts are doing what she is talking about and providing that level of support to students we are really lucky just thought I would pass that along so that was pretty powerful to have some parents there who are teachers in other districts really recognize what um Katrina was talking to was different than what they're experiencing and hearing from others so that was a lot of fun then we got our fall play um at the Le in Spring Lake Park fine art center Friday October 25th and 26th and then November 1st and 2nd live on 65 welcomes cat Perkins I think she was on The Voice wasn't she yes I think it was voice The Voice um she'll be at the Spring Lake Park F High School Fine Art Center as well on December 4th so and one other thing I want to share you may remember hope at the August work session spent time talking with you um and she went through a bunch of slides about how we're trying to look at student learning differently and and looking at really how do we look at that assessment more meaningful ways Beyond just standardized tests and the work that we're doing in some of the learning that we'd had with a gentleman named John Tanner from bred this summer well I'd shared some of that learning with a colleague of mine another superintendent in the metro area and he shared it with another superintendent it went on so I thought it was kind of fun to share with you that now there will be over 20 metro area school districts represented by their superintendents and members of their teams coming together in December to learn with John tenner right here in Minnesota so it's kind of fun to see that so hopefully that can lead to having more of an impact with MD and across the state looking at this in a little different way that's all I got thanks awesome a good some awesome things happening Schmidt second by henon to adopt the following resolution whereas American Education week was first observed in December 20 1921 as an opportunity to focus public support on our nations's schools and whereas the strength of our nation depends on a citizenry that values our public schools and supports our children's education and whereas all staff in the district provide a safe healthy and nurturing learning environment for our children in communities and whereas School bring schools bring together adult and children Educators and volunteers Business Leaders and elected officials in a welcome We Have Allison Peterson and Mia I was I was going to try it swari all right welcome glad you can join us yeah so both of you would you take a moment to share a little bit about yourself so we get to know you a little bit better sure absolutely yeah all right um my name is m mki um I'm the pr secretary um at the high school and outside of that I am a captain of the tennis team I do Panther mentors um knowledgeable and then outside of school I'm involved at my church with volunteering and I volunteer at Mercy Hospital un campus hi I'm Allison so I'm the president of student council is here High School um I'm also a captain of our girls tennis team um I'm a part of Panther mentors NHS and I also work outside of school gota make that money so pay for gas somehow um but yeah I'm just excited to be here excited for my senior year awesome welcome any up any updates on high school it's it's I mean it feels like it just started but we're already in mid- October really yeah we've got a lot going on um activities wise um we have like 50 clubs as of right now at the high school and more to come as students and staff put in applications to create new ones we have about 80% of students um at the high school that are involved in activities outside of just the normal classes um outside of that we also have as mentioned before our theater Department putting on their play Puffs which is about the Harry Potter magical Wizarding World which is and the performance states are great for the Halloween season because it's magical and then we have our Panther mentors and panther buddies program which is really just um helping build the community at our school mentors by pairing seniors and freshman together and just helping them integrate into the high school and panther buddies by pairing high school students with elementary kids and mentoring them through that way um and student counsil wise we just had our homecoming which M will explain a little bit more about um I think it went great hopefully that opinion is shared by the rest of the student body but um we have our blood drive coming up in a few weeks here and then we have appliation opening either sometime this week or next week and we'll start welcoming our new members yeah so for homecoming um our dance was really well attended and we heard a lot of positive feedback about that which sometimes we don't get but it was nice to hear this time um our pep Fest was also really hyped up and we felt that we had a lot of Engagement and excitement surrounding that um and then I thought that our student section at the football game the tail tailgate beforehand were also um well attended and so yeah we're really happy with how homecoming went and then as for our Athletics um it's sections time for all of our Sports they're all like wrapping up about um girls soccer is seated number two and they're playing tonight boys football is playing Thursday and against monel and then you know we have swimming girls dance uh boys soccer and some other sports that are wrapping up as well so as they finish up it's really important that everybody is supporting and we're trying to encourage that around school as well question thanks yeah how did you guys feel it went having the dance the weekend before homecoming I'm just curious what you're was weird it was different it was a surprise for us and I think the change was shocking to people and they felt weird about it at first but then afterwards it kind of it helped start us on a high note and then end us on a high note you know we had the dance then we had the game and that way it wasn't everyone's tired out from the game Friday night and then Saturday they have to stay up late again for the dance so it was pretty even out and had a little bit more balance that's kind of what I heard too that the person was like that's weird and then every was like oh it was great so it seemed like it went well other questions for all right thank you and we'll start on this side board any updates I don't know if this qualifies as an update exactly but we're going to go with it okay um over in the High School uh one of the things that I think is really great right now in this season is that the Juniors or seniors are getting we'll say um heavily peppered with college and post graduation messages and so right now in the month of October um lots of college visits being organized lots of organizations stopping by to see let students see their choice and it's just really nice to see how much the school facilitates those engagements because not everybody can head off to duth for a day take the day off from work and so duth can come to you or you can go to duth and so it's really nice um to see and and um the counselors reaching out to the parents and saying hey we want to help make sure graduation is on track and that you have um all the information that you need um in these upcoming deadlines and things that you'll be facing and so it's just been really um fun to see um I went to homecoming and I was just taken aack by how crowded it was and well attended it was and how much energy there was and then I'm also it's always humbling to see the staff just in the background making sure everything goes good they're they're always in the right place so I mean some of the photos that were taken to you know the student spirit in the cheering SE wow really good so that was that was great um I also attended at U Park Terrace they had that town hall for Zan Omar was there and um State Rep son ofish Julie Json County Commissioner was there was the city man from Spring Park it was fairly well attended and you know it's not my rep but I just thought it would be cool to go there and see how the process is it was run really well some like a really cool event well attended I was surprised how many people would show up to ask questions upates so this year I have North Point assigned to me which I'm very excited because my kids went there and I absolutely love Tyler um but I wasn't able to be there on Monday so there there's there um meetings are on Mondays so I'll get to go to them whereas the other ones were on Tuesdays and it was the same time as this um but Addy had a choir concert on Monday so I didn't want to miss that um but I'm excited that it's going to be on a day I can attend that's I look forward to absolutely I attended the woodcross PTO meeting last night and they finalized their budget for the year and they talked about um how well the fund run went last year for anybody watching who happens to be a wood crust parent they are continuing to collect money through this week so if anybody hasn't wants to contribute and hasn't had a chance to do that yet still time to do that and then they have a touch a truck event coming up where um I think somewhat similar to the the panther Foundation event where they get trucks in the parking lot and kids can check them out and just a fun fun opportunity for the families and Community around there so that's coming up next so great meeting awesome yeah I actually went to the Fun Run for woodrest because my sister couldn't be there so I went and watch my two little nephews and um it was amazing those kids were having so much fun and it was very um eye openening to during the time where they got their little icy to listen to all these like little teeny first graders talking in Spanish with each other or trying to and I'm just like wonder if they're talking about Mrs Schmidt right now I don't know what they're saying but it was just it was it was fun and the kids are so happy to see their parents you know we got cowbells and pom poms and cheering them on so it was fun awesome fun go to this side I am a signed this year to Lighthouse I'm really excited about that because that's a very different experience for me to be able to do that too and so keeping our brains here on this so I'm excited to do that and then I had a question also about something Marilyn said it was okay to ask it here um I was changing the time of our work session that I could ask about that in this slot sure do you do we I don't know what I'm asking but are we changing it or are we keeping it the same are we moving it to five Jeff and I had a quick conversation about that we're going to keep it the same but we're going to have a discussion about it at our next work session there's just a few things that we want to make sure we cover before we make that change um one of the bigger things is that we want to also think about um future board members how that could possibly impact them or or someone interested in U running so we want to make sure that we check all of the boxes and make sure everything sense yeah make sure it makes sense yes and then one other thing I was going to say is as you were saying at the game to I attend a lot of football games with having all these males in my family through the years but it's really refreshing to I agree I it's so obvious that the counselors really know the kids because they can nip things so quickly with when things go a little Ary in the stands with the students um they they really do know the students and then the other part for me having experienced Co football to this it when it was just the parents getting to go to the game this is It's just does my heart so well just being able to watch all those kids be able to do normal high school and it's just I love it so it's been glorious yes I know totally no it's been amazing so it's been really really really fun well I was to two 916 events a regular board meeting and a retreat uh the retreat was half social because we don't get acquainted with cabinet and staff there nearly as as well as we do in our home District so that was that was very nice we had an update on things that have been done and are being done that was reported to the superintendent a few days prior to that um 916 is working a lot on family engagement which is something they've not done very much before um school board members were recognized since it was September was Schoolboard recognition month and I was on Zoom at the amsd meeting unfortunately I missed live on 65 although I heard it was very good um but I couldn't be at 916 and live 165 at the same time just couldn't figure that out priorities oh priorities said I had to be over there unfortunately anything else Marilyn I think that's enough all right I don't have an update unfortunately all right um moving to adjournment can I get a motion so move so move by forsberg second second by henon to adjourn the meeting at 7:59 all in favor please say I I those oppose meeting is adjourned thanks everyone thanks for being here okay
