Westampton Approves Wage Ordinance and Honors MLK Day
- Meeting Overview:
In the recent Westampton Town Council meeting, the committee passed an ordinance to set the salaries and wages for township officials and employees for the years 2024 to 2025. Additionally, the council recognized the importance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, declaring it a day of service and urging community participation.
The passing of the salary ordinance, officially titled “Ordinance of the township of West Hampton to fix the salaries, wages, and compensation of certain officials and employees of the township of West Hampton for the years of 2024 to 2025,” was an event during the meeting. The discussion highlighted an amendment for the inclusion of the assistant tax collector’s position. This resolution is crucial as it sets the financial blueprint for township operations and employment over the next two years.
Commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the council read a proclamation recognizing Dr. King’s work and the impact of his teachings on the community. The proclamation also encouraged residents to engage in volunteer service, aligning with the national designation of the day as a time for civic contribution and community building.
Public works and community safety were other notable subjects addressed during the meeting. The council expressed gratitude to the public works department for their exemplary performance in snow removal during recent snowfall. Additionally, the emergency services were commended for their response during adverse weather conditions, responding to incidents on major roads and ensuring public safety.
The council also discussed the introduction of an ordinance amendment related to zoning and a resolution for the payment of vouchers, which approves the payment of bills through the specified date. These actions are part of the council’s routine financial governance.
During public comments, a resident inquired about the status of a fence ordinance for Spring Meadows, prompting the council to clarify that the ordinance was still under review.
Lastly, in a move to support environmental initiatives, a suggestion was made to aid an environmental club from Rancocas Valley High School in their project to collect and recycle single-use plastic bags. The council considered this proposal, which could potentially involve setting up a collection point in the town hall and collaborating with the local middle school.
The next Township meeting is scheduled for February 6th, and other upcoming events, including various committee meetings and a free rabies clinic, were announced. The administrator’s report included a public thank-you to Chris Taylor, the director of Public Works, for his leadership during the snow removal efforts.
