- Meeting Overview:
The Cinnaminson School Board recently convened to make several notable decisions, including the approval of the Robert J. Ashley IV Memorial Scholarship fund and the awarding of a contract for the HVAC replacement system at the middle school. Additionally, the board addressed financial matters following a detailed audit presentation, and discussed the implementation of school breakfast for the 2024-2025 school year. Moreover, the meeting touched on the establishment of a new law enforcement unit in agreement with the Cinnaminson Police Department.
The meeting featured a comprehensive presentation by Mr. Robert Inverso of Inverso and Stewart LLC, who reported on the audit for the year ending June 30th, 2023. The financial summary revealed a net profit and provided an overview of the fund balance, reserves, and surplus. The audit’s outcome prompted board members to express concerns about the need to replace the surplus and their reliance on it for future financial stability. Mr. Inverso reassured the board that, despite these concerns, the district’s financial health was satisfactory.
As part of the personnel discussions, the board approved various appointments, transfers, job descriptions, and leaves for both certificated and non-certificated personnel. The establishment of the Robert J. Ashley IV Memorial Scholarship fund represented a notable addition to the district’s efforts to support students. In honor of the individual’s legacy, this scholarship will provide financial aid to eligible students.
The board also tackled the business of ensuring facilities are up to date and comfortable for students and staff by awarding a contract to CM3 Building Solutions for the replacement of the HVAC system at the middle school.
In terms of curriculum and instruction, the board acknowledged the accomplishments of the DECA students who qualified for the 2024 NJ DECA State Career Development Conference. The superintendent praised the top readers in the Jump into Reading challenge and named the December employee of the month.
Another topic discussed was the uniform State Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Cinnaminson School District and the Cinnaminson Police Department, which was revised for the current school year. The board sought approval to create a law enforcement unit as part of the MOA and to establish live streaming capabilities with law enforcement for the 2023-2024 school year. Concerns were raised by a resident regarding transparency in the board’s selection process for a new board member to complete a vacant term. The board addressed these concerns by outlining the criteria and selection process, emphasizing that the appointed member would serve until the next public election in December 2024.
The board also moved to approve the revised 2023-2024 funding statement for services under chapter 192/193 and addressed the withdrawal from the capital reserve. Additionally, the closeout of the Dr. Frank Davis scholarship was approved.
The meeting concluded with discussions relating to the upcoming service events and initiatives to promote awareness during National BR Literacy Month, the approval of the school breakfast program for the 2024-2025 school year, and professional development requests.
