The board listened to the presentation but stated that the issue was a legal matter, not a moral one, and that the board could not take immediate action based on public comment due to lack of notice and absence from the agenda. The board’s attorney highlighted that any reconsideration requests would need to be submitted in writing with specific details and would typically be provided to the property appraiser for comment before the board could review them. The property appraiser, present at the meeting, clarified that the law requires the cap to be reset when a property is sold, and a new homestead exemption must be filed by the new owner, as per the Constitution.
