Norton School Committee Votes on Collaborative Agreement and Appointments
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Norton School Committee meeting, members voted to approve a collaborative agreement involving the addition of Whitman-Hansen Regional School District and Brockton Public Schools to the Reeds Collaborative. The agreement passed will stand for the next several years. Additionally, Dr. O’Neal was appointed to serve as Norton Public Schools’ representative on the Board of Directors of Reeds Collaborative for the 2024-2025 school year.
The meeting commenced with routine procedures, following which the committee moved to discuss more substantial matters. The student representative provided an update on various activities and preparations across schools, including the Yale’s readiness for ELA MCAS testing, the JCS’s successful attempt at setting a national record for puzzles completed, and upcoming events at the high school such as a STEAM community event, prom, spring musical, and an opportunity fair.
Further into the meeting, the committee addressed the appointment of Robert Kimble to the Permanent Building Committee. The Board of Selectmen had already approved Mr. Kimble, and the school committee followed suit without dissent.
The Superintendent Evaluation process was another point of discussion. The committee outlined the methodology and timeline for evaluating the superintendent’s performance.
Additionally, the committee reviewed and voted on the new Reeds Collaborative agreement, which was updated solely to include the two new school districts into the collaborative. Members also discussed the potential of moving future meetings to the new town hall, which is anticipated to open by September, citing the need for improved facilities for various town functions.
