- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Tinton Falls Borough Council meeting, the most significant event was the adoption of the 2024 Municipal Budget. The council also introduced an ordinance to amend building and housing codes related to lead-based paint hazard inspections for rental dwellings, and paid tribute to a local resident instrumental in Arbor Day and Earth Day celebrations.
At the forefront of the meeting, the council conducted a public hearing on the 2024 Municipal Budget. Following no public comments, the hearing was closed, and a series of resolutions pertaining to the budget were passed. These included the certification of a self-examination of the budget, and finally, the adoption of the budget itself. Each resolution concerning the budget was approved with a unanimous roll call vote.
In terms of legislative action, the council introduced Ordinance 2024-1512, which targets lead-based paint hazards in rental properties. The ordinance aims to add a new section to the borough code, which will require lead-based paint hazard inspections for rental dwellings. The public hearing for this ordinance is scheduled for April 16, 2024.
The council recognized Arbor Day with a proclamation read by a council member. Furthermore, the upcoming Earth Day was mentioned, including a tribute to a recently deceased resident, Mrs. Carney, who contributed to the borough’s Arbor Day and Earth Day events. A tree planting in her memory is scheduled for April 28th.
In addition to the budget and ordinance discussions, the council reflected on recent community events, including the success of the Easter egg hunt organized by the Recreation Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Police Department. The event was well-received by the community, with contributions from various departments and volunteers, including the Easter Bunny, who was revealed to be the daughter of a dedicated volunteer.
The council also acknowledged the Women in History Month celebration and congratulated the borough engineer on the birth of his son.
