Pequannock Council Advances Route 23 Sewer Project with Bond Sale Resolution
- Meeting Overview:
The Pequannock Township Council, in its February 13th, 2024 meeting, took steps toward the advancement of the Route 23 sewer project, a major infrastructure development for the area. The council resolved to support the project with a bond sale, earmarking $3,500,000 in sewer utility bonds.
The council also prioritized the Rolland Road water main replacement project through a Community Development Block Grant application, recognizing the need for reliable water services.
Additionally, the council adopted an ordinance during a public hearing that amended fees for parks and recreation activities and programs.
The establishment of a cap bank, in accordance with state regulations, was another ordinance adopted without comments from the council. This financial mechanism is designed to provide the township with budgetary flexibility in future fiscal years.
An ongoing concern for stormwater management was addressed with the introduction of an ordinance amending existing regulations. The council also introduced regulations for privately owned salt storage, an issue relevant to environmental stewardship and public health. Both ordinances are set for further discussion.
Tree removal and replacement were topics of debate, highlighting concerns over the impact on stormwater management and the process for obtaining tree removal permits on private property.
The council reviewed concession vendors for Town Hall and Parks and Recreation events, ultimately awarding contracts for food trucks and other event concessions. This resolution aims to enhance the quality and variety of food options available at community gatherings, thereby improving the overall event experience for residents.
A resolution for a municipal Alliance Grant application was adopted, along with the authorization of a local Recreation Improvement Grant application.
The council addressed the need for a landscaping plan at the Martin Berry house before applying for a grant from the Mars County historic preservation trust fund board. The estimated cost for the landscaping project is between $50,000 to $60,000, with 75% potentially funded by the county.
In a administrative action, the council canceled a previous resolution authorizing the purchase of a Chevrolet Silverado and instead authorized the use of a cooperative pricing council for the purchase of a Ford F350 crew cab pickup.
The council approved tax office refunds, overpayments, or cancellations, and authorized the payment of itemized claims on the bill list.
During council reports and announcements, the council expressed condolences for the loss of Jay, a valued committee member, and highlighted community events like a fish and chips dinner and a comedy show fundraiser. These events are part of the council’s efforts to foster community spirit and support local causes.
The planning board’s reorganization was mentioned, with new leadership positions announced, which is indicative of the township’s ongoing governance and administrative processes.
Progress on the PTHS veterans wall committee was shared, including the creation of a nonprofit organization for donations and construction plans for the wall.
The council discussed the behavior of volunteers, particularly addressing concerns raised by a library committee member.
Updates on open space funding, first aid squad membership, and upcoming community events were also part of the council’s comprehensive report on township activities and initiatives.
