- Meeting Overview:
The Revere License Commission met recently to discuss several licensing issues, with the most significant being the debate over the license application for Franco Fest 2024, an event celebrating French-speaking African Caribbean culture. The commission did not make a decision on the license, citing the need for further discussion due to past incidents of noise complaints, alcohol consumption, and inappropriate behavior associated with the event. The discussion centered around the potential impact on the community and the importance of addressing these issues.
The application for Franco Fest 2024 generated extensive debate among commission members, community representatives, and residents. Concerns were raised based on reports from past events, including excessive noise and alcohol consumption. A city councilor joined the discussion, voicing opposition due to resident complaints and emphasizing the detrimental effects of noise, littering, and inappropriate activities. The event manager responded to the concerns, outlining plans to collaborate with police and security to mitigate noise issues and ensure crowd control. The possibility of relocating the event was discussed, but no conclusion was reached. The commission decided to postpone the decision until their next meeting in May to allow for a more comprehensive resolution.
Another prominently discussed item was the application by Perado Brothers LLC for the transfer of an all-alcohol restaurant license to La Cantina 2024. The commission underscored that any outstanding property tax issues with the current property owner must be resolved before the license could be granted. Supporters of the license transfer, including a city councilor, highlighted the positive impact it would have on the city. The application was approved, contingent on the resolution of the tax situation.
The Boston Renegades, a professional women’s tackle football team, received support from the commission for their application for five one-day malt wine licenses. The event manager presented plans for the games, emphasizing the team’s community contributions, including their involvement in youth programs. The licenses were approved, pending the payment of any outstanding fees.
The commission also approved a one-day malt wine license for the city’s Beautify Revere spring cleanup day at Veterans Memorial Park. The event manager discussed adding a beer garden to the event, but concerns were raised about the setup and the lack of a detailed location map. Approval was granted on the condition of further coordination with the Department of Public Works.
A representative for Emerald Business Enterprises Inc addressed an issue regarding parking overbooking, which occurred due to an administrative error during a school vacation week. The resolution was met with satisfaction from the fire department representative and a city councilor advocated leniency considering the business owner’s history of community involvement. Consequently, the matter was filed.
The hearing involving Noah Auto Body Repair and Sales brought to light various compliance issues. The property owner reported that the business had not been operating publicly as required, had failed to comply with property surveys and permits, and there were concerns about cars being sold from unlicensed locations. The commission decided to suspend the business’s class two license and summoned the licensee to appear before them to address the issues.
Further, the commission discussed the approval of a change of hours for KARA Corporation to include breakfast service, approved the transfer of a common victualer license for a hot dog place, and reviewed an application for a change of DBA for a food establishment. They granted the application for a one-day license for a cornhole tournament organized by the Revere Chamber of Commerce, with a specific concern about sangria being addressed.
The commission also addressed routine matters, including the approval of various one-day licenses and the transfer of an all-alcohol package store license from Netra Inc. to Siri Monohar Corp DBA Deart. Details such as hours of operation, seating arrangements, and types of entertainment were thoroughly reviewed, with the commission members expressing satisfaction with the applicants’ plans and their willingness to comply with regulations.
