He also touched on the upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week and the end-of-year newsletter. Additionally, Toback reported on incidents of harassment, intimidation, and bullying within the district.

The budget presentation, delivered by a member of the board, emphasized the healthy financial position of the board, despite troubling trends that necessitate increased support for student services, transportation, and employee benefits. A decrease in the general fund budget was noted alongside an increase in the school tax levy. The need to control funding for student support services was highlighted, referencing significant unanticipated costs encountered in the 2023-2024 school year. The board discussed the appropriation of extraordinary aid and unbudgeted fund balance to manage these areas effectively and the importance of monitoring the current year’s financial activity.

The board also contemplated putting the Next Generation science lab program on hold to preserve reserves for existing programs and facility projects. The reduction in the facility budget was discussed, with a focus on addressing health and safety concerns and developing a plan for cost drivers in the student support area. The board underlined the necessity for approval of any major transfers and the significance of securing grants and state funding to support projects.

Agenda revisions included approvals for revised items and additions of new items pertaining to personnel matters. These included end dates for interim directors and administrators, administrative leave, school resource legal matters, settlement agreements, termination for good cause, and employment separation agreements. The board also approved a Hib determination. During the public comments section, a representative from the Wayne Township Administrators Association advocated for granting tenure to administrators, citing the impact of dedicated leadership on school communities.
