The acquisition of the new building, intended to house kindergarten through fifth grade, was seen as pivotal in reorganizing space within existing schools.

Gary Morris, a resident from Fanwood, voiced questions and concerns during the public comments section regarding the duration of bond payments, an itemized breakdown of the proposed budget, and the implications of the district’s investment in the property on South Avenue. He sought clarity on the distribution of funds between building improvements and property costs and inquired whether the state aid would be immediate or spread out over the bond’s duration.

Another community member expressed concerns over property tax increases and their impact on senior citizens, prompting the board to explain the budget breakdown and address the feasibility of proposed renovations versus alternatives such as increasing class sizes. The board clarified the challenges associated with building modifications and the intent behind the larger gymnasium in the new school, which is to serve as a community space.

The meeting also covered the significant increase in employee health insurance rates, with a 13.2% rise for health insurance and an 11.9% increase for dental insurance.
