Another ordinance that garnered attention was Number 2024-26, related to amending cannabis sales, transfer, and user taxes. The public hearing for this ordinance saw no comments from the audience, and the council moved forward to adopt it unanimously.

The council also addressed several first readings of new ordinances that propose further amendments to classifications and compensation plans for various city titles. These include IBW Local 210 Unit 3 and the title of Social Worker Aging.

Attention was given to the resolution authorizing continuation of contractual payments to the South Jersey Animal Shelter. This resolution was adopted without discussion.

The council proceeded with an efficient consent agenda, which included numerous resolutions and agreements ranging from grant applications and bids to professional services agreements. Notably, the council authorized an agreement with the law firm of Wenz, Goldman, and Spitzer PA to litigate claims against manufacturers of PFAS for chemical contamination in the city. Additionally, a resolution was passed to award an open-end contract to Core & Main LP for the furnishing and delivery of valves and tapping sleeves.

A resolution that caught attention was the one authorizing the issuance of a Class 2 annual cannabis manufacturer license to Green Gardens LLC, contingent upon state approval. This represents the city’s continued engagement with and regulation of the cannabis industry.

Finally, the council requested to amend the Center City Redevelopment Plan to allow a property conversion on South 6th Street from a commercial and residential mix to entirely residential purposes.
