Fall River Licensing Board Tackles Permits and Compliance Issues
- Meeting Overview:
The Fall River Licensing Board convened to deliberate on a series of permit requests, compliance matters, and the economic implications for local businesses during its recent meeting. The Board granted various one-day liquor permits for upcoming cultural celebrations and brewery events while addressing compliance issues with local establishments. Moreover, the Board took steps to support the Cornerstone Lounge owner, Mr. D Silva, by considering the scheduling of a special meeting prior to his travel abroad.
At the forefront of the meeting was a public comment concerning the Cornerstone Lounge, a business yet to open due to unresolved challenges despite meeting all requirements. The speakers cited the financial burden on Mr. Silva and stressed the importance of the business’s opening for local economic growth. In response, the Board exhibited a readiness to expedite a resolution to aid Mr. Silva before his departure.
The Board’s agenda progressed with the review of one-day liquor permits for Troy City Brewing, which were approved for amended dates across the summer months for food truck festivals and brewery events. These permits were issued based on the applicant’s history of compliance with regulations.
Similarly, the Day of Portugal event’s permit application took center stage, with discussions on operational hours, security, and a condition to limit alcohol purchases to one drink per person. Despite concerns about potential queuing issues and family purchases, the Board approved the permits while considering future amendments to the drink purchase condition after further discussions with law enforcement.
The Board also approved one-day liquor permits for SPTO Church’s feast, as well as for St. Anthony of Padua Church’s events in May and June. Additionally, permits were granted for St. John’s Holy Ghost Club and St. Cecilia Band Club’s summer festivities.
The approval of a class two license for appc multiservices LLC, allowing the sale of up to 20 vehicles, and a fortune teller’s license for Psychic Readings by Taylor, emphasized the variety of business activities overseen by the Board. Borden Light Marina Inc. received an extension of hours for a charitable event, and a new operation, Potty with Primo, was granted one-day liquor permits for an event serving wine and sangria.
A show-cause hearing addressed a local establishment’s non-compliance with an action plan, which included unauthorized patrons after hours and the absence of a required detail officer. The owner contested some police department claims but ultimately committed to adhering to the action plan, meeting financial obligations, and improving communication with law enforcement. The Board proposed a status hearing to reassess compliance.
In a separate compliance issue, a bar owner disputed alleged violations of their 2:00 AM license and discussed the action plan with the Board. The Board underscored the necessity of adhering to the action plan, including employee certifications and security camera footage retention. The matter was continued to a future meeting with a request for specific documentation from the bar owner.
