Financial discussions followed, with the committee reviewing the April financial statement. While noting that not much had changed since the previous presentation, they discussed overages in technology and substitute line items. The committee assured that despite these overages, the budget remained within its limits. Concerns were raised about school choice revenue falling short of projections, prompting further research into the matter. The committee also discussed the 2024-2025 budget, highlighting that Somerset’s assessment had been approved at the town meeting while Berkeley’s assessment was still pending. The potential for increased student minimum aid from the state could positively influence Chapter 70 funding.

The committee also considered capital improvement projects, including addressing the baseball field’s drainage issues and the possibility of establishing a fund for athletic turf and track improvements. A proposal was made for additional OPEB contributions not to exceed $250,000.

Contracts for boiler, electrical repair, plumbing, and snow removal services covering the fiscal year July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, were discussed. These contracts represent year three of a three-year agreement. The staffing update was positive, with no resignations and three appointments. The school committee meeting schedule was also reviewed, with a proposal to suspend the July meeting unless matters arise. Concerns regarding athletic uniforms were addressed, with a request to remove uniforms in poor condition from rotation.
