- Meeting Overview:
The Littleton School Committee meeting was a showcase of student achievement, recognizing the accomplishments of Littleton High School students both in and out of the classroom. One item at the meeting was the National Honor Society senior reception, where students were honored for their dedication to service, leadership, and academic excellence. The event also served as a platform to introduce the future leaders of the school’s National Honor Society and to acknowledge the contributions of outgoing seniors.
During the National Honor Society senior reception, the advisor, Danielle Bearden, opened the event with a warm welcome to all attendees, celebrating the students’ achievements over the past year.
A former teacher and co-advisor, Susan Harvey, delivered a notable speech that touched on the themes of history, choices, and personal experiences, offering words of wisdom to the students as they prepare for their future endeavors. The four officers of the National Honor Society, including Amy Morana, were acknowledged for their leadership and efforts throughout the year.
Emma Platz, the secretary, presented a recap of the chapter’s activities and successes, which included various fundraising efforts, community service projects, and educational initiatives. Vice President Maggie Berlinger expanded on this by highlighting the contributions of the different committees within the organization, including the mural, bed, craft, and tutoring committees.
The meeting also served as a transition point, as the new executive board officers for the upcoming year were introduced. In a unique touch, the junior members of the National Honor Society had the opportunity to introduce their senior peers, adding a personal element to the proceedings. In one instance, Michael Schuen delivered a speech for his brother Ben, acknowledging his kindness and the support he has provided.
Beyond the National Honor Society, other students received commendation for their individual accomplishments and contributions to the community. One speaker praised a student for her multifaceted achievements in history, band, and athletics, and her intention to attend Wellesley College.
Another student’s dedication to education and track and field was recognized, with plans to further her education at Gordon College. A third student, noted for her leadership roles, aims to study biology at North Carolina State University. Another peer was spotlighted for her volunteer work and aspiration to study biomedical engineering at Tufts University.
The meeting provided a platform for various speakers to express their admiration for the students’ accomplishments and to share personal anecdotes and well wishes for their future. The students’ involvement in extracurricular activities, their academic excellence, and their future academic and athletic pursuits at distinguished universities were all subjects of praise.
As each student’s achievements and future plans were highlighted, the audience responded with applause. The speakers, without fail, emphasized the students’ commitment to their studies and their potential to thrive in their chosen career paths.
