The meeting did not conclude with a resolution on the contentious RFP committee motion number one, as it failed to pass with five members voting against it. A statement was made challenging the ethics of the situation, highlighting the gravity of the debate. This was coupled with a split vote on governance committee motions, where concerns were raised about the financial impacts and adherence to state mandates, with one member abstaining from voting on a particular motion due to these issues.

Amidst these discussions, the board took time to recognize the significant achievements within the school district. The student representative reported on events such as proms, testing, and preparations for graduation. The board acknowledged the success of various student athletic teams and the Esports program. Special commendation was given to students recognized by the Upstander program for their integrity and contributions to the school community, with some receiving gift cards from a local pizzeria.

The board also celebrated partnerships and contributions from community members, including the recognition of a retiring police chief for his service and partnership with the district, and Patricia Russo for her 38-year tenure in the transportation department. Additionally, two individuals from the nonprofit Hearts of Mercy spoke about their volunteer-based initiatives to support students, inviting the board to collaborate and refer families who could benefit from their programs.

Accomplishments of the district’s staff were also highlighted, including the recognition of John Germano for winning the Shore Conference AD of the Year award and the achievement of the pre-K program in obtaining a four-star quality rating. During the public comment portion, the board addressed the retirement of staff member M Coin and expressed appreciation for her service. The board president spoke of the numerous upcoming events in June, highlighting the busy schedule ahead.

The session concluded with the board moving into an executive session to discuss personnel matters and the CSA evaluation, followed by the approval of new business motions and a unanimous motion to adjourn.
