Cumberland County’s commitment to community and economic development was on full display at the recent Board of Commissioners meeting, where local businesses, leaders, and organizations were recognized for their outstanding contributions. The event centered around the celebration of achievements, with the presentation of several notable awards including Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, and Nonprofit Organization of the Year, as well as special recognition for local investment and volunteerism.
Jag Physical Therapy received the esteemed Large Business of the Year award for its dedication and service to the community. This acknowledgment highlights the company’s significant role in fostering health and wellness within Cumberland County. In the same vein, the Small Business of the Year awards were presented to Cutting Edge Cleaning and Pancoast Funeral Home, both acclaimed for their service excellence and integral presence in the local economy. The owners of these businesses expressed their gratitude for the recognition.
Brian Dama, of Frush Masters Painting Contractors, was honored with the Business Person of the Year award. His acceptance remarks paid tribute to his team and co-owner Erin, emphasizing the collaborative efforts that have led to the company’s success.
The Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA stood out as the Nonprofit Organization of the Year. The new CEO expressed thanks and recognized the efforts of the former CEO, staff, and board members.
Economic development was a prevailing theme, with First Choice Freezer and Cold Storage receiving the Mayor’s Economic Development award. The economic development director highlighted the company’s expansion and its impactful contributions to the local economy.
The Board of Commissioners meeting also celebrated local businessman Mike, who was recognized for his significant investments in the region, particularly in job creation and affordable housing initiatives. Mike received the Economic Development award for his ongoing efforts.
Volunteerism did not go unnoticed, as Mr. Mike Tuscano of Mince Insurance was honored with the Volunteer of the Year award for his service. This recognition reflects the county’s appreciation for civic engagement and the indispensable role volunteers play in enriching community life.
Special recognition was extended to Don Hunter, the executive director of the Greater Vineland Chamber of Commerce, for her exceptional leadership. She was celebrated with a presentation by the Constituent Services director on behalf of Senator Michael Tesa and assemblymen.
Looking ahead to a historic commemoration, the meeting announced an event planned for September to celebrate the 172 women, including four black women, who voted in the presidential election of 1868 in Vineland.
Throughout the proceedings, the meeting featured sponsor acknowledgments and advertisements from local businesses and organizations. These included Mince Insurance, the city of Vineland, New Life Church, and Complete Care Health Network, among others. Their involvement illustrates the collaborative efforts that are foundational to the county’s community and economic development strategies.
