- Meeting Overview:
In a recent session, Voorhees Town Council approved several bond ordinances during their recent council meeting on June 10th, 2024. These ordinances authorize substantial investments in township infrastructure, including property acquisition, improvements to township buildings, roads, sewer systems, and the purchase of new vehicles and equipment.
The first ordinance passed allows for the acquisition of real property and various improvements to township buildings and grounds, appropriating $345,500 and authorizing the issuance of bonds or notes up to $328,500.
Another major ordinance greenlighted the completion of various road and related improvements. The ordinance appropriates $2,337,000 for these improvements and authorizes the issuance of bonds or notes up to $2,221,050. This substantial financial outlay highlights the council’s prioritization of transportation infrastructure.
Additionally, the council addressed improvements and acquisitions for the township’s sewer utility system. The ordinance appropriates $1,271,800 and authorizes the issuance of bonds or notes up to $1,282,110.
The council also approved the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment, appropriating $2,647,500 and authorizing bonds or notes up to $2,515,125. This ordinance will ensure that the township’s services are adequately supported by modern and reliable equipment.
Furthermore, the council passed several resolutions introducing substantial amounts of revenue from various grants and programs into the township’s budget. These included funds from the National Opioid Settlement, the Clean Communities Grant Program, the Recycling Tonnage Grant Program, the Federal Bulletproof Vest Program, and the Cross County Connection Bike Path Program. A resolution was also passed establishing the estimated Municipal Tax Levy and designating Fulton Bank as an official depository for the township.
In community-related news, the council highlighted upcoming events such as the law enforcement against drugs and violence (LEAD) Fest Carnival, the Juneteenth freedom celebration, and the free summer concert series. There was also a mention of the updated graduation wall by the Voorhees Art Commission to honor the class of 2024.
The meeting closed with a proclamation declaring June as Migraine and Headache Awareness Month in the township, recognizing the challenges faced by individuals with these conditions and emphasizing the importance of public education on the topic.
